Dear Zadie,
I am delighted to inform you that The University of Manchester would like to offer you the Karpidas
Excellence Scholarship.
This Scholarship has been awarded to recognise your achievement in completing the Manchester Access
Programme and being one of the highest achievers on the programme before arriving at the University. The
award has a value of £5,000 per year for 4 years, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Your Karpidas Scholarship has been entirely funded by a gift from the Karpidas Foundation, a friend of the
University. I attach some information on your donor and their connection with the University – along with a
message your donor wanted us to share with you.
We are indebted to the donor for their generous support, and on an annual basis will ask you to submit an
update on your time at Manchester. This is a necessary requirement of continuing with your scholarship and
will be shared with your donor to demonstrate the value of their gift to Manchester.
Throughout your time at the University, you will be invited to meet your scholarship donor at both formal
and informal meetings and events. You may also be asked to take part in other activities to recognise and
thank donors for their support of students. This may include: the completion of a formal thank you letter to
the donor; writing Christmas cards to the donor; taking part in publicity photos and interviews for use in
University communications.
The Karpidas Scholarship will be paid in three instalments over the academic year, as follows: 25% of
Scholarship funds in December, 50% of Scholarship funds in February and 25% of Scholarship funds in April.
All matters relating to the administration of your Scholarship, including registration, allocation and
disbursement of funding, and progression should be directed to your School’s administration office or the
Student Services Centre.
If you have any questions relating to your donor, reporting requirements or events please contact me at
tom.saunders@manchester.ac.uk.
Congratulations on the award of your Scholarship and I wish you all the very best in your studies.
Yours sincerely,
Tom Saunders
