• Understand the 3 C's of conflict communication: Be Clear, Be Curious,
and Be Calm.
• Examine words that initiate discussion and minimize conflict.
• Explore communication tools for constructive confrontation.
• Discuss methods for maintaining professionalism and avoiding win-lose
situations.
• Research how to use boundary statements when dealing with an angry
person.

5 Strategies for managing difficult personalities
1. It’s not about you: Do not take it personally. They may not be at their best.
2. Set Boundaries: Think of the way you apply boundaries as a dial, for some
difficult individuals you may need to dial up the boundaries and for some softer
people you may need to dial it back.
3. Develop Relationships: Boundaries in balance with relationships softens
impact of interactions and improves empathy.
4. Self-Regulation: You are responsible for your actions and reactions. Distance
yourself from the source of stress - go for a short walk; take a mental health
day; practice relaxation skills (meditation, mindfulness).
5. Have trusted support: Have a support system outside of work; discuss or vent
with an impartial party; venting is healthy.
