3. DISCUSSION
Recruitment issues
According to Dowling and Schuler 1990 (as cited in Greenidge, Alleyne, Parris, & Grant, 2012) recruitment is the search for and acquisition of
potential job candidates in sufficient numbers and quality. Now, in an age where skills shortage and an ever increasing demand for them is no longer
news, the importance of the recruitment process comes to the fore, to the extent of looking at this process now as the McKinsey & Company 1997
report (as cited in Macky, 2008) coins it as `the war for talent '.
When an organisation embarks on this recruitment quest,

oBusiness report –––– about investment plan from CATEXHAUST Gmbh (CG) 1. Introduction This report is for CATEXHAUST Gmbh (CG) which
is not only a Germany manufacture company but also is the second largest supplier to VAG Group ( Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT&SKODA) in
Europe to measure whether it can enter Turkey market or not after VW announced that they would build up a manufacturing plant in Turkey. 2.
Evaluation of Turkey 2.1 Turkey is a great developing country which has the world 's 15th largest GDP–PPP and 17th largest nominal GDP. Its GDP

Thirdly, political and policies in many countries take joint venture as a prior entrance mode. Eventually, since vehicle industry has become a main
industry in Turkey, there must be good performance from the whole industry chain that CG would have a lot of competitors and hard to enter the
market If it choose greenfield or acquisition. 3.2 On the other hand, less risk means CG would lose profits when choosing joint venture mode. In
addition, management for mixing two companies can lead to conflicts and battles if there objectives are changed or difference. Base on the
advantages and disadvantages above, joint venture is the best choice after balancing the risk and the profit earning. 4. Some culture guidelines for
operating in Turkey 4.1 There have culture differences between Turkey and German. Culture shared norms based on value, attitudes and beliefs.
(Daniels. J. D, Radebaugh. L. H,& Sullivan. D.P, 2011 ) There are 99.8% of Turkish are Muslim so that Turkish usually don't work on Ramadan
(usually in June and July) and they never eat pork. While German is a multi–religious country, there are 34%Protestant, 34% Roman Catholic, 3.7%
Muslim, and 28.3% unaffiliated or other. The values in Turkey are family and polychronic time, they focus on family style and like to hang up with

Sometimes, it can be hard talking to people face–to–face. Maybe you avoid human beings you would actually enjoy spending time with. Low
self–esteem and self–confidence is a problem many teenagers have today. The solution to this might be mobile phones. Although many claim that
mobile technology represents a dark and asocial future, it is possible that it can help teenagers increase their confidence. In this text, I will discuss
whether or not mobile technology can be a convenient part of our future by proving people with confidence.
A study conducted by Cindy Rose, consumer director of VodafoneUK, confirms that many teenagers prefer communicating with each other through
mobile phones rather than face–to–face. It is a lot easier to express ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Turkey : A Growing Proportion Of Young Population
Turkey has a growing proportion of young population, with more than half of the population being younger than 30. This is encouraging for the
employment rate in Turkey. Companies should take this into consideration and create schemes and training programmes for younger people willing to
work.
With Turkey predominantly following a Muslim culture, foreign businesses looking to invest in the Turkish Market must consider the opportunities and
threats regarding this. Also taking into consideration family values and cultural traditions. Businesses from the Arab world would be able to conduct

However in 2008, Greece underwent and are still undergoing a financial crisis along with every country in Europe entering a recession, with Greece
being affected the most due to the monetary policy.
Had Greece not joined the Euro, they may have been able to avoid the crisis by printing more of its currency, the drachma. In result the value of the
Greek currency would have lowered in value on the Foreign Exchange Market encouraging competitive Greek exportation. The outcome of this would
have been lower domestic interest rates, encouraging investment and the ability to be able to pay the country's debts.
In 2013 the unemployment rate reached to 27.47%. However this dropped slightly to 26.49% in 2014. As predicted by Statista, to increase again until

Managing and Leading Telecommuters in the 21st Century
Managing and Leading Telecommuters in the 21rst Century
Introduction and Literature Review
Given the escalating costs of managing facilities, increase in fuel costs, and high cost of recruiting the specific types of professionals to work in a
given geographic area, telecommuting has become a viable alternative for any organization today. No longer having to invest heavily in a large
corporate facility, be forced to recruit only from a given geographic region, or incur the very high fuel costs of many regional offices, organizations are
opting for telecommuting work strategies. This approach to organizing a work force is considered by thought leaders in human resources to be the
single greatest factor affecting the long–term nature of organizational structure and job satisfaction (Smith, 2005). The U.S. Office of Personnel
Management has defined telecommuting as the use of telecommunications technology to enable global workforces to collaborate and communicate,
forcing a change in the policies, organizational structures and strategic resource planning of enterprise globally (U.S. Office of Personnel Management,
1997). This approach to organizing a workforce is resonating with high–growth companies who need to gain access to expertise far outside the
geographic boundaries of their companies. There is ample enthusiasm on the part of workers in these and many companies for this concept, as it is
seen as liberating and fertile with freedom for workers to pursue the best

This assures a high growth in this industry in future. Most of the service providers have covered majority of the urban population of India. But many
far fledged villages of India still need to be connected through mobile phones. The untapped rural population of India is a huge proportion of the
72.2% total rural population of India. Also, the demand for telecom service in rural people is increasing day by day. This further ensures growth in the
industry. Indian telecom continues to register a significant growth each year. This has been due to the impact of economic reforms and pro–active
policies of the government. This has a clear indication that india has huge demand of tele services.
Supply– The telecommunications industry is a vast one with a large number of private players who are constantly bringing down the cost to
consumers thereby making services more affordable and helping improve life in general and business in particular. On the Indian business scene
are successful government owned institutions like MTNL and BSNL on the one hand, and even more successful and aggressive players like the
Tata's and Reliance on the other. Competition has just begun and is heating up every day with either lowering of tariffs or introduction of newer and
improved services to keep a larger share of the market. If airtel will be able to provide better services for low cost then it will be able to

Verizon Sold Off Its Wireline Telephone and Internet...
Bus 588 Current event report Michael Liu Last week, Verizon Communications Inc sold off about a quarter of its wireline telephone and Internet
operations (WSJ). The company sold its assets to Frontier Communication Corp, a regional telephone company, for $10.5 billion, and the deal
leaded Verizon to exit the wireline phone service market in Texas, California and Florida. Also, in order to withdraw from the local wireline phone
service market completely, Verizon left millions of FiOS customers who the company spent around $23 billion and 10 years to develop. These
customers are roughly 1.6 million fewer FiOS internet subscribers who are about 24% of the company's total, and around 1.2 million fewer FiOS
video customers who are about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, after the deal, Verizon narrows its other types of business and expand its wireless business over the next few years. So, the company will have a
low levels of diversification in the future, and the corporate–level strategy will become to the dominant business diversification strategy. The undersell
action of Verizon will let the company focus its pivot of business on wireless market, enhance its core competence and create more profits in the future.
The second reason is because businesses of wireless have less regulation than wireline phone business. New rules proposed by the Federal
Communications Commission and backed by President Obama to regulate Internet lines as a utility contributed to the company's decision to sell
(WSJ). These new rules, as we known related to Net Neutrality, will let internet become free and open. All users will have same internet service, such as
high connection speed and no contents limitation, and network carriers can't provide different wireline service based on different monthly service fee.
So, these new regulations will limit Verizon's wireline business and decrease the company's revenue potentially. As Verizon Chief Executive Lowell
McAdam said, "an important consideration was the current regulatory uncertainty and the potential impacts on future investments of a reclassification of

Electronic Spectrum Case Analysis
The Australia Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), on behalf of the government, held an auction for 700 MHz band spectrum in 2013.
Spectrum was sold to two bidders, Optus Mobile and Telstra, for a price of almost two billion dollars. Two 15 MHz lots on the 700 MHz band
spectrum were left unsold, which were auctioned in 2017 (Australia Communications and Media Authority [ACMA], 2017). This paper provides a
historical background of the winning bidders, implications to businesses and the public, notable public discussion, and key economic, political, and
social impacts of the 700 MHz band spectrum auction in Australia, which commenced on April 4, 2017.

Regulation of spectrum is necessary in order to avoid monopolization, allocate spectrum (it is a renewable, yet limited resource) and promote
competition within the mobile services industry. Monopolization, seen in various industries, results in higher prices for consumers and less
accountability for the quality of services (Sharwood, 2016). ACMA maintains a competitive industry by regulating the process of allocating spectrum.
Public commentary, debates, and controversies The public opinion was largely positive, as consumers saw the benefit in the improvement of services.
The chairman of ACMA, Richard Bean (Johnston, 2017), explained the benefits of the auction: "This additional spectrum will help industry meet
ever–increasing demand for high–speed wireless broadband. The public has realized record rates of return from the sale, and should now benefit from
the services this 700 MHz spectrum can provide". In contrast, a common negative opinion argues that spreading spectrum too thin across multiple
mobile service companies results in worse network coverage due to too much competition and not enough investments in infrastructure (Sharwood,
2016). Consultation about whether to send the unsold spectrum to auction occurred over the course of five weeks and encouraged input from the
public via the government's website. People were able to visit the website and submit their arguments

of the population lives in the rural areas where there they have no access to these connections. Apart from this they can even acquire another existing
cellular company. They can fill p the gaps in the markets which are due to the other companies for example if they are not performing well on some
criteria. So they can take an advantage of those gaps and make profit on their losses. Various open doors exist in the voice telecom space, which are
fixated on getting the vital licenses and putting resources into the proper framework. Various players have as of now started to put resources into the
framework by acquiring similar information and feature correspondence licenses and are presently in a position to adventure the voice market. This not
the slightest bit restricts new participants to enter the business but instead gives obtaining and combining open doors. 5.1.7.

Vodafone is the market leader in the UK. In terms of retail revenue market share in the first quarter of this year the company had 32.5% of the market
compared to its rivals Orange (25.7%), O2 (22.4%), and T–mobile (19.4%). Oftel the telecommunications regulator states that demand is strong and
still growing for mobiles. UK mobile subscribers exceeded 50 million during the period April to June 2003, and in May 75% of UK adults owned
or used a mobile phone. Call volumes increased by 5% and messaging volumes by 4% in the first quarter. However, the Klondyke period of growth
in the UK, during which people were buying and using mobile phones for the first time is clearly over with sales year on year change down from the
heady height of 90% to still very substantial level of 32 % in 2003. The expectation must be that the company will find it difficult to maintain even this
level of growth in a highly–competitive market that is moving towards stability.

3g Technology
3G
Definition of 3G:
3G is the third generation of wireless technologies. It comes with enhancements over previous wireless technologies, like high–speed transmission,
advanced multimedia access and global roaming. 3G is mostly used with mobile phones and handsets as a means to connect the phone to the Internet
or other IP networks in order to make voice and video calls, to download and upload data and to surf the net.
How is 3G Better?
3G has the following enhancements over 2.5G and previous networks: * Several times higher data speed; * Enhanced audio and video streaming; *
Video–conferencing support; * Web and WAP browsing at higher speeds; * IPTV (TV through the Internet) support

In Asia, Europe, Canada and the USA, telecommunication companies use W–CDMA technology with the support of around 100 terminal designs to
operate 3G mobile networks.
Roll–out of 3G networks was delayed in some countries by the enormous costs of additional spectrum licensing fees. (See Telecoms crash.) In many
countries, 3G networks do not use the same radio frequencies as 2G, so mobile operators must build entirely new networks and license entirely new
frequencies; an exception is the United States where carriers operate 3G service in the same frequencies as other services. The license fees in some
European countries were particularly high, bolstered by government auctions of a limited number of licenses and sealed bid auctions, and initial
excitement over 3G's potential. Other delays were due to the expenses of upgrading equipment for the new systems.
T–Mobile, a major Telecommunication services provider has recently rolled out a list of over 120 U.S. cities which will be provided with 3G Network
coverage in the year 2009.
Europe
In Europe, mass market commercial 3G services were introduced starting in March 2003 by 3 (Part of Hutchison Whampoa) in the UK and Italy. The
European Union Council suggested that the 3G operators should cover 80% of the European national populations by the end of 2005.

The pace of decline nearly doubled from the previous quarter.
Vodafonehas been reeling primarily because its growing mobile businesses in countries such as India and Turkey have failed to offset exposure to
challenged European markets that comprise the bulk of its empire.
More than two thirds of Vodafone 's service revenue comes from Europe, where a drawn–out decline has been led by hemorrhaging businesses in Italy,
Spain, Greece and Portugal.
Service revenue for the quarter in Vodafone 's Southern Europe region–which includes those four countries, as well as Albania and Malta–dropped to
ВЈ2.34 billion, a 17% decline from the prior year.
Chief Financial Officer Andy Halford declined to say whether Vodafone would log another write
–down on its businesses in hard–hit European regions.
"In markets that have been on a progressive downward slide, it is not easy to call the bottom on all of those," he said.
The company announced a ВЈ5.9 billion write down on the value of its Spanish and Italian businesses in November because of challenging market
conditions. The move came after Vodafone booked ВЈ10.2 billion in impairment charges in the 2011 and 2012 fiscal years because of struggling
European markets.
"We don 't see a dramatic change in economic conditions in Europe in the coming quarters, so we expect headwinds," Mr. Colao said.

Nowadays the need of having employees with potential skills is even more critical for small and mid–sized firms since there is not competition with

We live in an era where telecommunications services hold a central role in every sphere of our lives (Came, 1984). Marketers argue with compact
confidences that these emerging technologies have the ability to develop our lives and improve it in many ways (Risto, 2002). Moreover, it has
facilitated the instantaneous cost reduction and quality improvement by offering different services by the companies (Douligeris and Pereira, 1984).
The deregulation in the INDIAN telecommunication markets since the beginning of the 1997s has brought about significant changes in the

Shanzhai! MediaTek and "White Box" Handset Market
Issue Identification
MediaTek Company is a large global chipset supplier in wireless handset market. More than half of the chipsets are selling to shanzhai market like
China or South Asia. Shanzhai means illegal counterfeits or "knock–offs". Over the last 30 years, the company had great success through this target
market. However, the CEO of the company Ming–Kai Tsai was in a dilemma. He wants to get more opportunities for the company's further growth.
The primary problem is whether they should serve tire–one companies like Nokia, Motorola or Samsung instead of focus on shanzhai market. The
secondary problem they faced is the company's image and the ethical concern. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Threat of Substitution (High to Medium) Threat of substitution does exist for MediaTek because they are aimed at the 2G mobile phone market, thus
consumers can switch at any time to the high–end 3G market. The 3G technology that is offered by many other companies allows consumers to have a
much faster product without having to incur a huge price increase. With customers being able to switch markets very easily MediaTek does face a
relatively high threat of substitution.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers (Low) Bargaining power of suppliers is very low because MediaTek produces the chipsets themselves and therefore
they are the suppliers in the mobile phone industry. MediaTek is a very well established company, which means they are quite rare in regards to the
supplier industry.
Bargaining Power of Buyers (Medium to Low) MediaTek is one of the only companies who are apply to supply chipsets in the Chinese 2G mobile
phone Market, so in terms of this bargaining power of buyers is relatively low because consumers don't have various other suppliers they can purchase
from. On the other hand bargaining power of buyers is high to medium in a sense that consumers can easily switch from the low–end product which is
what MediaTek offers to the high–end 3G mobile phone product. After analyzing Shanzhai! MediaTek

Analysis Of The Story Of Safaricom : The Triumph Of...
Abstract The story of Safaricom is the story of the triumph of hampered liberalization of the telecommunication services division in Kenya; the
endurance of grit management; and the development of innovation over national monopoly and even unfettered liberalization. In fact, it is a microcosm
of the larger Kenyan story of government–enabled macroeconomic achievement amidst daunting international economic recession and inborn national
and cultural negative heritages. In spite of these, Safaricom remains the largest corporate taxpayer in Kenya and features prominently in the country's
national economic planning and budget projections as the Country strives towards middle income status by 2030. The diversification of Safaricom's
portfolio of services and corporate redirection has expanded the competition framework and spaces within which the company formerly operated. The
recent market upheaval in Kenya provides enough bases for a comprehensive competition review. Safaricom is therefore a great company to study. Its
influence on the Kenyan financial standing cannot be ignored, its boundless innovativeness as well as the fact that Safaricom has now become a
company that international investors strongly associate with Kenya. On this paper I have outlined Safaricom's history as well as Kenya's history and
the codependent relationship their success stories share. Also included are Safaricom products and services as well as the company's marketing
strategy. I have also examined how

Turkey has a growing proportion of young population, with more than half of the population being younger than 30. This is encouraging for the

With Turkey predominantly following a Muslim culture, foreign businesses looking to invest in the Turkish Market must consider the opportunities and

The Current Status of 3g and the Future of 4g Essay
The Current Status of 3G and the Future of 4G 3G and 4G are two mobile communications standards that are currently in use. 3G is the third generation
of the standard and 4G is the fourth and most recent generation. Each successive generation usually brings new base technologies, more network
capacity for more data per user, and the potential for better voice quality.3G became available in the United States in 2002 and 4G became available in
2009 (O'Malley). Although it is a previous generation of communications standards, 3G is still in use world–wide and will probably remain so for a
few more years. 4G is still relatively new and has somewhat limited coverage, but it is only going to expand and get better.
Brief History ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are over 190 3G networks operating in over 40 countries worldwide (3G vs 4G). 4G's coverage pales in comparison to the massive 3G
network. The only 4G coverage available at the present time is in the vicinity of large metropolitan areas. 3G's data transfer speeds have a
minimum data rate of 2 Mbit/s for stationary or walking users, and 384 kbit/s in a moving vehicle (About Mobile Technology). 4G on the other
hand can be up to 10 times faster, but speeds like this are only capable in certain areas where the network is capable of supporting such speeds. 3G
remains relevant due to its wide coverage when compared with 4G and its consistent and still relatively high data transfer speeds. But as the 4G
network grows, the future of 3G isn't very promising. It is only a matter of time before 4G takes over completely.
Brief History of 4G 4G is the fourth generation of cell phone mobile communications standards and successor of the 3G standards. The world's first
publicly available 4G service was opened in the two Scandinavian capitals Stockholm and Oslo in 2009. 4G became available in the United States
later in 2009. As opposed to earlier generations, a 4G system does not support traditional circuit–switched telephony service, but uses all–Internet
Protocol (IP) based communication exclusively (3G vs 4G). 4G system provides mobile ultra–broadband internet access to laptops with

Vodaphone Turkey needed to be ready to leverage these advancements in technology.
What should be Serpil's order of priority? What should her priorities be on day one, over the first two weeks and over the next four weeks after that?
The focus from day one should be on understanding the core problems that have led to the demise of this strong international company within Turkey.
Serpil must work towards developing a "customer–centric" business plan to guide the company into prominence within the growing Turkish market.
This plan should involve a restructure of management personnel from the 'bottom up' of the organization drawn from Turkish society. These personnel
would be in a strong position to focus on the young population destined to be future customers. This strategy would ensure sustainable growth over the
long term. On "day one" a plan must be implemented to upgrade the technology infrastructure to deliver optimal customer experiences across the value
chain to both current and new customers.
Within the first two weeks it would be necessary to gain control of cash flow. The prospects for Vodaphone's industry are positive and cash usage
should be leveraged in a manner that is proportional to market growth rate. Serpil will need to identify "non–core" business operations and outsource
these operations as necessary. These "non–core" business operations might include supply chain and other

Globe speciп¬Ѓcally recognized that the most effective way to attract and retain the value–conscious Philippine mobile customer was to spur action

Sport in Istambul
Sport in Istanbul Sport in Istanbul takes a very big place. There are many different kinds of sport available on both Asian and European parts. Water
sports such as scuba dive and rafting are very attracting to tourists who come from all over the world and Soccer is very popular among Turkish
citizens. There are many different sport stadiums that are based on the both sides of Istanbul, but actually many of them belong to Football clubs like
Galatasaray, Besiktas and Fenehbahce. Also, Istanbul holds Vodafone Istanbul Marathon every year. Thousands of Turkish people come out to
stroll and hundreds of athletes run to break new records. I and my friends have participated In 2013 Istanbul Marathon too, it was a great sport
experience. As I mentioned previously, many tourists that come to Istanbul usually do scuba diving. The closest place in Istanbul is Prince's
islands. Many tourists who have dived out there said that the deep waters near the islands are not transparent and the visibility is not good, but
some people say there are diving areas near the islands that allow to have a great experience of being under the water. Touring agencies offer many
scuba diving courses for the first comers and for professionals, equipment is generally provided by trip organization. Rafting is an adrenaline filled,
exciting experience, a perfect escape from the big city for a day or weekend, and an ideal group for people of all ages! With its

Factors Influencing the Success of Takeovers and Mergers...
With reference to the item on telecoms and your own research, to what extent do you think that leadership is the main factor influencing the success of
takeovers and mergers?
Leardership is influencing and directing the performance of a group members towards achieving the goals of the organisation.
Leadership is the main factor influencing the success of takeovers and mergers because Staff who has strong leadership skills will motivate and
insipre other employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the firm. This is well illustrated in the acquisition made by Kellogg's. One of the key
factors influencing the succes of Kellogg's severals acqusition, was The CEO John a Bryant's leadership skills as, he held direct responsibility for ...

In the short term, Kellog's again integrated Pringle's perfectly, as the firm bought Pringle's in 2012 for $ 2.7 billions. In the long–term, the takeover
should produce a saving cost synergies of 50 to 75 million. Another example of great leadership skills which influenced the success of a takeover is
showed by Chris Gent, CEO of Vodaphone, in the Mannesman's takeover by Vodaphone in 1999. As the german company bought Orange, UK firm, it
directly made them a competion to Vodaphone. This Chris Gent did not agree and therefore believe that it was against an agreed understanding not to
encroach on each other's market. He therefore, wanted to acquire Mannesman. Chris Gent has persevered to takeover this firm even if the German
public and government were against it and that The European Commission will scrutinize the deal for monopoly implications. The German firm finally
agreed after time for an offer of ВЈ112 billion. This exhibits, that Chris Gent played a key role in influencing the Mannesmann board to accept the
deal and therefore implies that leadership skills such as convincing people to do something is vital and influence the success of a takeover or merger.
In contrast, Randall Stephenson AT&T's CEO has showed poor leadership skills in the deal for T–Mobile from Deutsche Telecom has collapsed due to
high prices, less choices and less likelihood of new product development. However, the CEO should have been more persistence, some real question

Managing and Leading Telecommuters in the 21st Century Managing and Leading Telecommuters in the 21rst Century Introduction and Literature Review Given the escalating costs of managing facilities, increase in fuel costs, and high cost of recruiting the specific types of professionals to work in a given geographic area, telecommuting has become a viable alternative for any organization today. No longer having to invest heavily in a large corporate facility, be forced to recruit only from a given geographic region, or incur the very high fuel costs of many regional offices, organizations are opting for telecommuting work strategies. This approach to organizing a work force is considered by thought leaders in human resources to be the single greatest factor affecting the long–term nature of organizational structure and job satisfaction (Smith, 2005). The U.S. Office of Personnel Management has defined telecommuting as the use of telecommunications technology to enable global workforces to collaborate and communicate, forcing a change in the policies, organizational structures and strategic resource planning of enterprise globally (U.S. Office of Personnel Management, 1997). This approach to organizing a workforce is resonating with high–growth companies who need to gain access to expertise far outside the geographic boundaries of their companies. There is ample enthusiasm on the part of workers in these and many companies for this concept, as it is seen as liberating and fertile with freedom for workers to pursue the best ... Bus 588 Current event report Michael Liu Last week, Verizon Communications Inc sold off about a quarter of its wireline telephone and Internet operations (WSJ). The company sold its assets to Frontier Communication Corp, a regional telephone company, for $10.5 billion, and the deal leaded Verizon to exit the wireline phone service market in Texas, California and Florida. Also, in order to withdraw from the local wireline phone service market completely, Verizon left millions of FiOS customers who the company spent around $23 billion and 10 years to develop. These customers are roughly 1.6 million fewer FiOS internet subscribers who are about 24% of the company's total, and around 1.2 million fewer FiOS video customers who are about... So, the company will have a low levels of diversification in the future, and the corporate–level strategy will become to the dominant business diversification strategy. The undersell action of Verizon will let the company focus its pivot of business on wireless market, enhance its core competence and create more profits in the future. The second reason is because businesses of wireless have less regulation than wireline phone business. New rules proposed by the Federal Communications Commission and backed by President Obama to regulate Internet lines as a utility contributed to the company's decision to sell (WSJ). These new rules, as we known related to Net Neutrality, will let internet become free and open. All users will have same internet service, such as high connection speed and no contents limitation, and network carriers can't provide different wireline service based on different monthly service fee. So, these new regulations will limit Verizon's wireline business and decrease the company's revenue potentially. As Verizon Chief Executive Lowell McAdam said, "an important consideration was the current regulatory uncertainty and the potential impacts on future investments of a reclassification of ... Regulation of spectrum is necessary in order to avoid monopolization, allocate spectrum (it is a renewable, yet limited resource) and promote competition within the mobile services industry. Monopolization, seen in various industries, results in higher prices for consumers and less accountability for the quality of services (Sharwood, 2016). ACMA maintains a competitive industry by regulating the process of allocating spectrum. Public commentary, debates, and controversies The public opinion was largely positive, as consumers saw the benefit in the improvement of services. The chairman of ACMA, Richard Bean (Johnston, 2017), explained the benefits of the auction: "This additional spectrum will help industry meet ever–increasing demand for high–speed wireless broadband. The public has realized record rates of return from the sale, and should now benefit from the services this 700 MHz spectrum can provide". In contrast, a common negative opinion argues that spreading spectrum too thin across multiple mobile service companies results in worse network coverage due to too much competition and not enough investments in infrastructure (Sharwood, 2016). Consultation about whether to send the unsold spectrum to auction occurred over the course of five weeks and encouraged input from the public via the government's website. Roll–out of 3G networks was delayed in some countries by the enormous costs of additional spectrum licensing fees. (See Telecoms crash.) In many countries, 3G networks do not use the same radio frequencies as 2G, so mobile operators must build entirely new networks and license entirely new frequencies; an exception is the United States where carriers operate 3G service in the same frequencies as other services. The license fees in some European countries were particularly high, bolstered by government auctions of a limited number of licenses and sealed bid auctions, and initial excitement over 3G's potential. Other delays were due to the expenses of upgrading equipment for the new systems. Abstract The story of Safaricom is the story of the triumph of hampered liberalization of the telecommunication services division in Kenya; the endurance of grit management; and the development of innovation over national monopoly and even unfettered liberalization. In fact, it is a microcosm of the larger Kenyan story of government–enabled macroeconomic achievement amidst daunting international economic recession and inborn national and cultural negative heritages. In spite of these, Safaricom remains the largest corporate taxpayer in Kenya and features prominently in the country's national economic planning and budget projections as the Country strives towards middle income status by 2030. The diversification of Safaricom's portfolio of services and corporate redirection has expanded the competition framework and spaces within which the company formerly operated. The recent market upheaval in Kenya provides enough bases for a comprehensive competition review. Safaricom is therefore a great company to study. Its influence on the Kenyan financial standing cannot be ignored, its boundless innovativeness as well as the fact that Safaricom has now become a company that international investors strongly associate with Kenya. On this paper I have outlined Safaricom's history as well as Kenya's history and the codependent relationship their success stories share. Each successive generation usually brings new base technologies, more network capacity for more data per user, and the potential for better voice quality.3G became available in the United States in 2002 and 4G became available in 2009 (O'Malley). Brief History ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are over 190 3G networks operating in over 40 countries worldwide (3G vs 4G). 4G's coverage pales in comparison to the massive 3G network. The only 4G coverage available at the present time is in the vicinity of large metropolitan areas. 3G's data transfer speeds have a minimum data rate of 2 Mbit/s for stationary or walking users, and 384 kbit/s in a moving vehicle (About Mobile Technology). 4G on the other hand can be up to 10 times faster, but speeds like this are only capable in certain areas where the network is capable of supporting such speeds. 3G remains relevant due to its wide coverage when compared with 4G and its consistent and still relatively high data transfer speeds. Another example of great leadership skills which influenced the success of a takeover is showed by Chris Gent, CEO of Vodaphone, in the Mannesman's takeover by Vodaphone in 1999. As the german company bought Orange, UK firm, it directly made them a competion to Vodaphone. This Chris Gent did not agree and therefore believe that it was against an agreed understanding not to encroach on each other's market. He therefore, wanted to acquire Mannesman.
