The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing Essay
The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing
On February 26, 1993 at 12:18 pm in New York City, the first call was received at the Central Office
from a street alarm box at the corner of West and Liberty Streets. The call was reporting a possible
transformer vault (or manhole) explosion on West Street near the World Trade Center. As manhole
explosions are common in wet whether, there was no hint of a major catastrophe until the phones
never ceased to ring after aid had arrived to the site. Numerous phone calls continued, now reporting
smoke in the towers of the Trade Center as far up as the 33rd floor within the first three minutes of
the explosion (http://members.aol.com/fd347/wtc.htm). The ceiling then collapsed in the train
station, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lev Dassin told jurors that Yousef was part of a "self–proclaimed army of
terrorists" http://cnn.com/US/9708/05/wtc. trial/index.html), that plotted the February 23rd attack.
While Yousef was charged with ordering and mixing the chemicals to make the bomb, co–defendant
Eyad Ismoil was accused of driving the van carrying the bomb into the World Trade Center's
underground garage. In an article for CNN on the 5th of November 1997, jury deliberations were
said to have begun. The two men, Ramzi Yousef, 29, and Eyad Ismoil, 26, were both charged with
conspiring to set off a bomb February 26, 1993, at the Center. U.S. Attorney Lev Dessin said that the
pair believed they were above the law and set off the bomb to terrify Americans. Prosecutors say the
pair and four other men who were convicted earlier, hoped that the bombing would persuade the
U.S. to stop giving aid to Israel ttp://europe.cnn.com/US/9711/05/trade. center.trial/).
Yousef, a 29 year old electrical engineer, was arrested in Islamabad, Pakistan, in February 1995, and
extradited to the United States. Prosecutors say that he was the ringleader of the plot. Four other
men already convicted in the case got sentences of 240 years in prison each

The Day The World Trade Center Collapsed
Throughout history, many tragedies and sorrowful situations have occurred having to do with issues
such as wealth and money, power, control, and other issues. One of these times in history is during
the frightening event of 9/11, also known as the day the World Trade Center collapsed by hijacked
planes. This one event alone has impacted and changed the way people live today significantly. The
reaction of American people after this infamous event of the September 11, 2001 tragedy was of
multiple things including patriotism, pride, and being united. Quickly, the American public wanted
to know who was responsible and planned revenge. This usually gives the government the public
support it needs to declare war on the enemy and declare a war which never happened.
Throughout history, there have been numerous false flag operations done by government and
militaries. This is exactly what happened on September 11, 2001. This can date back to the founding
fathers of America in 1787, when they dreamt of a stable and balanced government for the people of
the United States, by the people themselves to lead. Leaders of the country did not have the people
of America in mind when they executed these attacks solely for their own personal gain. The
September 11 attacks were a false flag operation to take the US into a war in the Middle East. The
ideas and brains behind the attacks, the hijackings performed and the US leader's motives for war all
prove that the September 11 attacks was a well

1993 World Trade Center Bombing
On February 26, 1993, Middle Eastern inspired terrorism truly hit the United States homeland. A
small group of seven terrorists rented a van, parked it in the underground parking garage of the
World Trade Center, departed and then detonated it. The explosion resulted in six killed, more than
one thousand injured, and a nearly 100 foot crater that was several stories deep. (FBI, 2008).
The ensuing investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and New York Joint
Terrorism Task Force and many FBI agents worldwide. The investigation revealed many clues. The
first was the vehicle identification number for the rented van, which led to the arrest of Mohammad
Salameh. More clues eventually led to the arrest of five other members of the group.
After the attack, the Port Authority spent vast sums of money to repair the building as well as
improving the operational and safety capabilities of the facility. Security was strengthened and all
visitors were required to be screened and receive visitor badges. A radio repeater was also installed
to improve communications within the entire complex. (Aftermath, 2014).

Congress created the Department of Homeland Security which consolidated two dozen agencies and
was given the task of protecting the United States from another attack. (Waxman, 2009). By
consolidating these agencies, communication paths would be greatly improved. Fusion centers were
then created to enable the various agencies to share information and conduct threat assessments for
events. The amount of intelligence is greatly improved by the increased participation of the
numerous agencies. The agencies then have the ability to "connect the dots" and create a better

The Attack On The World Trade Center Bombing
America has seen many terrorist attacks throughout the world and at home. Seeing them around the
world may have hurt, but not as bad as seeing it in your own backyard, when you and your
neighbors are being targeted. By definition Terrorism is usually a small group who kills suddenly or
secretively. Many terrorist attacks are the attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on the
attack of September 11,2001, the Oklahoma City bombing, the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing,
the Wall Street bombing and, the U.S.S. Cole bombings are some of the worst terrorist attacks to

Al–Qaeda's leader was Osama Bin Laden, who trains men from other countries to go to certain
places to become trained in tactics of terror, then get sent home to create chaos. The aftermath of the
attack was outrageous. This attack took 3,000 American and international citizens. It also left
America in devastation. The attack on September 11, 2001 was and still is the worst attack on U.S.
soil. The Oklahoma City bombing was known as the worst Terrorist attack on U.S. soil, until 9/11.
The Oklahoma City bombing occurred on April 19, 1995 at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building.
The blast was set off by anti–government extremist named Timothy McVeigh who was executed in
2001 for his crimes(Oklahoma City bombing). The other man,or co– conspirator, was Terry Nichols
and he received life in prison. The Alfred P. Murrah Federal building, was used for the offices of
social security, the U.S. secret service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the of Alcohol,
Tobacco, and Firearms. And also had recruiting offices for Army and the Marine Corps. This
bombing left 168 people dead, 19 of which were children(Homegrown Terror 6), and injured
hundreds more. The Oklahoma City bombing left America in sorrow for every precious life that was
taken during this very unfortunate event. In a more recent matter, on the day of the 117th annual
Boston Marathon, April 15, 2013, two bombs went off near the finish line. Two brothers committed

The Causes And Impacts Of The World Trade Center
The original World Trade Center, constructed between 1975 and 1985, was a complex of seven
buildings occupying a 16 block area in Lower Manhattan. At the heart of the World Trade Center
(WTC) stood 1 WTC and 2 WTC, also known as the Twin Towers. These towers occupied nearly an
acre each and stood 110 stories high. When completed, 1 WTC was the tallest building in the world.
The Twin Towers stood as a symbol of America's power in the global economy. Because of this, the
World Trade Center was a massive target for terrorism. On February 26th, 1993, a small moving
truck was filled with 1500 pounds of explosives and detonated in the underground parking garage of
the North Tower. This attack killed 6 people, injured over a thousand and lead to structural damage
in the subsurface structure of the tower. Unfortunately, this was just a warning of what was yet to
come. On September 11th, 2001, two commercial airliners were hijacked by terrorists and flown
into the North and South Towers (1 WTC and 2 WTC). The impact from these crashes and the heat
caused by the burning of excess jet fuel after the impact caused the buildings to collapse killing over
2600 people. Debris from the collapse damaged the remainder of the seven buildings eventually
leading to them being demolished. To recover from the physical and emotional loss in Lower
Manhattan, a new World Trade Center has been planned. The site is now home to the new 1 WTC
(The Freedom Tower), 2 WTC, 3 WTC, 4 WTC, 7 WTC, National September 11 Memorial and
Museum, and the World Trade Center Transportation Hub.
The focal point of the new World Trade Center is the new 1 WTC. Also known as the Freedom
Tower, the new 1 WTC is owned by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. The tower's
3,100,000 square feet of floor space is managed operated and leased by the Durst Organization.
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill was faced with the challenge of not only designing a building, but
designing "an icon representing perseverance, innovation, and urban modernism" (Lewis & Holt).
The building is designed using a highly redundant steel moment frame and core to enhance rigidity
while leaving the floor space free of columns. Not only is the new 1 WTC one of the most safe
structures in the

Analysis Of The Movie ' World Trade Center '
Abstract
The movie World Trade Center (2006) recalls the accounts of two Port Authority police officers,
Sgt. John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno, their family, and close friends as they endure an event that
changed the history of America forever. This film conveys their daily lives at the time of the twin
towers destruction in New York, along with their families struggle with great uncertainty and fear.
Following along with Sgt. John and Will's own emotional and psychological traumatic endurances,
their families face tremendous struggles with guilt, anger, and rage. While many rescue personnel
stepped forward in the search for the many victims trapped underneath the rubble, there were several
distinguished individuals throughout the storyline that stepped up as crises interventionist who
courageously assisted in the rescue for Sgt. John and Will, and provided heartfelt support for their
families while helping to relieve the heavy burden of lack of certainty, overwhelming fear, and
anxiety. Using information gained throughout the course along with outside resources, this review of
World Trade Center will cover steps for alleviating the crisis, learning coping skills, and developing
resiliency.

World Trade Center Expansion
The World Trade Center stood to be built as a reflection of peace with a fierce ambition and
disciplined achievement on a massive scale. The statement of these buildings was to construct an
uplifting stamina of downtown Manhattan. Its purpose created both a negative and positive aspect in
its construction to help those in need of it, but it also caused some damage in its creation. Its
massive scale as buildings allowed the people of New York City to see it as a symbol of expansion
in that particular area of Downtown Manhattan from it reign being the peace towers to the
construction of the Freedom tower. The reasons as to why the Twin Towers was an expansion for

While under Mr. Tobin administration he created the World Trade Center department. This

Tozzoli felt he found his team because he stated "If you were going to build the world's biggest
project, you have to have a tough team" (Gillespie 41). He went on to find a new architect for the
project after firing the architectural firm Skidmore, Owens, and Merrill. The Port Authority had
finally found Minoru Yamasaki from Settle to lead the program for the trade center. They gave him
free range on the construction and design but this was his first tall creation. Yamasaki has done some

World Trade Center Explosion Essay
Lessons from the 1993 WTC Explosion for Business Continuity Plan Development Introduction
Every incidence, of whatever kind, that occurs to a person, a corporation or a country leaves an
impact of its kind. The most important thing is the lessons, which the stakeholders concerned learn
from that incidence. Bombing incidences are often a result of terror attacks and the lessons or the
action plans that ensue from any successful terror attack are not something intelligent minds can
underscore (Knowles, 2003). One of the major targets in these bombings and occurrences of a
similar kind is the business community. Critical analysis of explosions and bombings is very
important to both the security agencies and the businesses. This is primarily ... Show more content

Power blackout resulted, 250 elevators became inoperative, five people died and over 1000 got
injured. The Outcome of the Attack The attack had devastating outcome that traversed across many
sectors of the economy. In fact it took a nearly a month to figure out the next course of action (Hiles,
2007). Meanwhile, rescue mission intensified as a result of disaster declarations, businesses were
closed down, the building was considerably destroyed and many companies rerouted their
telecommunication and information channels and systems to alternative sites (Hiles, 2007). Smoke
was everywhere and this caused health complications to people trapped inside the tower for a longer
time. Security alert intensified throughout the US as people worried which was the next place to be
attacked. The Impact of this Incident on Businesses Though there were deaths and injuries that
resulted from this explosion, the major impact was in the business community. This is because this
twin tower hosted nearly 350 businesses and handled over 80,000 on a daily basis who came to do
business with them. The basement of the building had a car parking capacity of 2,000 spaces and
this gives tip of how busy this complex was at the time of the explosion (Hiles, 2007). The work
force that reported for duty daily in this complex was nearly 50,000 employees (Hiles, 2007). In
addition to these business operations, WTC was

When most people think of the world trade center they immediately think of the attack that occurred
September 11th 2001. Most forget that was not the first time that the world trade center's had come
under attack before. "The February 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center in New York City
marked the beginning of an ugly new phase of terrorism involving the indiscriminate killing of
civilians. ' Like the saran gas attack on the Tokyo subway in March 1995 and the bombing of the

They were hoping to level the north tower and have it collapse into the south tower with the hope of
killing everyone inside. When Yousef was captured and sentenced he was noted as saying that they
hope to kill upward of 250,000 Americans. Any loss of life by a terrorist attack is a tragedy and if
Yousef and his group was successful as they planned they would have single handedly conducted
the worst attack ever, but by the grace of God they weren't as successful as they originally planned.
The attack on February 26 only killed 6 people. Four out of the six personnel were from the Port
Authority whom office was closes to the blast epicenter. The other was a pregnant woman.
Thousands were injured by blast and smoke. Many were evacuated from the building with classic
soot marks and few suffered major trauma injuries. One of the main issues that were posed to EMS
personnel was evacuating the people whom had to walk down from the upper floors due to the
elevators being disabled. Many of the workers whom had preexisting medical conditions such as
asthma, cardiac diseases, and hypertension posed a major concern moving down the steps. The other
concern was the pregnant woman whom also worked on the upper floors as this would limit the
amount of movement they were capable of doing. It was estimated that over 50000 people were
evacuated from the towers on this

extremism to a multi–pronged war. This tragedy brought hem closer to not having this happen The
first tragic event that shows how people react to tragedy is the world trade center bombing. Some
background of the event is that 6 were killed and more than 1,000 were injured. Research shows that
a lot of people thought that it was the end, and that they were never going to recover. On Friday,
February 26, 1993, Ramzi Yousef and a Jordanian friend, Eyad Ismoil, drove a yellow Ryder van
into Lower Manhattan, and pulled into the public parking garage beneath the World Trade Center
around noon. They parked on the underground B–2 level. This had been a different type of terrorist
attack than before. But the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, coming a few weeks after
President Clinton's swearing–in, was a tipping point in what would become a new type of war
against the evolving threat of terrorism. The government's initial response to the World Trade Center
bombing was from a law enforcement approach. Our intelligence community and military were not
fully engaged until years later, when President George W. Bush elevated our fight against again, but
as we know it did happen again.

World Trade Center History
The Hidden History of One World Trade Center
The tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, One World Trade Center is a new but emotionally–
charged icon for New York City. The spiritual successor to the Twin Towers of the first World Trade
Center, the tower rose from the ashes of 9/11 to become a symbol of both New York City and
America's strength and resilience. Few people, however, really know the hidden history behind this
iconic skyscraper.
After the September 11 attacks, plans were quickly drawn up to rebuild the World Trade Center.
After a contest was held to redevelop the complex, a proposal from architect Daniel Libeskind was
selected as the winner in 2002. At the centerpiece of Libeskind's proposal was a new signature tower
for the complex intended to soar to a symbolic 1,1776 feet into the air. ... Show more content on

A symbolic cornerstone was laid on July 4, 2004 even as the design was undergoing several
revisions. After several years of redesigns, the final plan for the tower was revealed in June 2005,
though financing and security issues held up the actual construction of the supertall skyscraper until
the summer of 2006.
Concrete pouring for the new tower was completed in November 2007 and construction cranes were
installed in January 2008, finally allowing full construction to commence in earnest. In 2009, the
tower's name was changed from the Freedom Tower to One World Trade Center in an effort to make
it easier to identify for the public. By 2010, the tower began to rise steadily above the ground and
stood at 82 floors by the tenth anniversary of the September 11

The Attack On The World Trade Center
On September 11, 2001 there was a major occurrence that changed New York City. It all started with
four hijacked planes that took off at 8:45am on a Tuesday morning. As those planes took off, and
were hijacked, they took down a major economic building, The World Trade Center. The Twin
Towers were the key success to The World Trade Center complex, the North Tower stood at 1,268
feet and The South Tower stood at 1,362 feet high. The tallest buildings in New York City held
35,000 people each, along with 430 companies. This created an economic target, as each building
represented economic power and freedom. The attack on the World Trade Center created an impact
on the financial standing of America, a loss resulting in billions to the airline industry, increased
spending due to domestic security and the constructing of a federal agency, Homeland Security. All
of these were results of the tragic attack on September 11 on the US economy. The World Trade
Center was a sign of freedom and economic power in America, there were many companies along
with workers that suffered a tragic loss on this day making them lose their company along with
workers as well. As the aftermath of September 11 progressed the US economy began to suffer as a
result. The Twin Towers represented the financial standing of America. As each building collapsed,
the economy collapsed with it, leaving America to clean up the mess that this attack had created.

The Twin Towers Of The World Trade Center
The Twin waterfalls that are placed in the ground where the twin towers of the World Trade Center
once stood serve as a memorial to the events that took place on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The
Architect of these twin waterfalls, Michael Arad, wanted to create a memorial that was "stoic and
defiant, but also quiet and respectful." Arad explained. "I didn't want a design that felt the need to
scream loudly. I felt the site was frightened with so much history, anything we say here is amplified
a thousand–fold." The project that Arad had in mind was no easy feat, it took roughly 6 years to
complete due to numerous architectural obstacles that the workers had to conquer. This mechanical
marvel is able to send water from the bottom of the waterfall back to the top at an astonishing rate of
24,000 gallons per minute. However, gusts of wind cause turbulence on top of the water so the
engineers needed to create a system that is not only strong, but also able to variate the power given
to these pumps in order to maintain that serene aesthetic look of the water smoothly flowing down
the waterfall. This mechanical marvel also boasts filters to take sediment out, UV lights to kill
bacteria, and chemical additives to prevent the water from becoming polluted. Every minute detail
has been thought of by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker. For example,
trees were placed surrounding these waterfalls in order to comfort and calm those who come to this
spot to mourn.

1995, Yousef who was directly related to other orchestrated terrorist attacks, had organized an attack

The World Trade Center Bombing Essay
Following the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, Rescorla invited Hill to New York, where he
hired him as a security consultant in order to assess the building 's security. Although no arrests had
yet been made, Rescorla believed that the bomb had been planted by Muslims. Hill went undercover
in several mosques throughout New Jersey, showing up for morning prayers at dawn. He took on the
character of an anti–American Muslim, in order to interview the other visitors to the mosques. He
concluded that the attack was likely planned by a radical imam at a mosque in New York or New
Jersey. Followers of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, a radical Muslim cleric based in Brooklyn, were
subsequently convicted of the bombing.
Rescorla gained much more credibility and authority after the bombing, which resulted in a change
to the culture of Morgan Stanley, which he believed should have moved out of the building because
he felt that the World Trade Center was still a very real target for terrorists. He recommended to his
superiors at Morgan Stanley that the company should leave their Manhattan office space,
mentioning that labor costs were lower in New Jersey and that the firm 's employees and equipment
would be safer in a different building. However, this recommendation was not followed as the
company 's lease at the World Trade Center was not up until 2006. Due to Rescorla's urging and
persistence, all employees, including senior executives, began practicing emergency evacuations

The Black Plague And World Trade Center
Introduction
Historical tragedies have shaped our society, behaviour, and relationships. Historical tragedies are
the reason we are where we are as a community and country today. They completely alter our
thinking and open us up to realizations we had not thought possible. For example, The Holocaust,
The Black Plague, and World War I to name a few. However, This is most evident in the September
11, 2001 terrorist attacks that happened in the United States of America. Due to films being a
representation of society itself, this tragedy has unsurprisingly had a profound impact on the
filmmaking industry. This event was the basis for numerous stereotypes, new political themes, and
racial discrimination that we see in films today. Surprisingly, there are not many films based on this
event however, as stated in the chapter, there were still some films made based on this tragedy. Most
notably, Paul Greengrass's United 93 which was released in 2006 and Oliver Stone's World Trade
Center which was interestingly also released in 2006. Due to them being released at the same time
and the fact that these are 2 of the most prominent feature films based on 9/11 has led scholars,
critics, and others to compare and contrast both of them. Eleftheria seeks to go against the norm and
look at similarities between these two films instead of differences and she wants to read these films
next to each other and not against each other. Eleftheria argues that these two cases offer a more

The Attack On The World Trade Center Towers
SECTION 4: WHERE – LOCATION
4.1 Originated Yousef was born in Kuwait and spent time in an Al–Qaeda training camp located in
Afghanistan before commencing the attack against the United States. In 1991 Yousef began to plan
his attack against the United States. He had arrived illegally on September 1, 1992. He partnered
with Ahmed Ajaj from Pakistan and on the flight, Yousef and Ahmed acted as if they traveled
separately and didn't know each other. The attack on the World Trade Center Towers was planned by
Ramzi Yousef, Mahmud Abouhalima, Mohammad Salameh, Nidal Ayyad, Abdul Rahman Yasin and
Ahmad Ajaj. They received the finance from Yousef's uncle, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Four men

The first new leader of the nation after the end of the Cold War and the preceding president 's'

with the Soviet Union out of the way, the United States faced a clear and present danger ahead the
presidential future. Besides the six lives lost and the triggering amount of people injured, the bark
was much worse than the bite of this attack. The bomb, made by the head terrorist Ramzi Yousef
astonished and dismayed many over the fact on the amount of damage the bomb was able to create
in the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center. Nonetheless, the bombing remains the
subject of much conjecture and supposition, some well evidenced and others not, and served to
implant the idea in the American and Western consciousness of Islamic terrorists attacking during
the World Trade Center in 1993. The majority of the attack impacted the underground garage of the
the World Trade Center Tower. The purpose of this attack was the intention of bombing the north
towers and crashing it into the south tower killing thousands tearing down the nation over
sovereignty, dominance, and supremacy raising hierarchy in in the Islamic country.

On September 11, 2001, 4 airliners were hijacked by members that al–Qaeda sends out to carry out
important targets in the United States which took place in New York . 4 of the planes were hijacked
and had an objective to hit. al–Qaeda targeted the World Trade Center in 1993 which was not that
successful and again in 2001 which was very successful which damaged a lot of people's family and
city. The reason al–Qaeda attacked the World Trade Center was because the US was giving Israel
army support during the Persian Gulf War. This event brought war and change in the American life.

Twenty–three police officers and thirty–seven Port Authority police officers. Six people who were in

by the 9/11 World Trade Center attack has been the United States' stance on immigration and

9/11 was a turning point in American history because it had a major effect on our society. Our

Attack on the World Trade Center
Tuesday, September 11, 2001, began as a normal peaceful morning in the largest city in the United
States. New York City was just as busy as usual, all the hustle and bustle of the people headed to
their jobs, all the traffic going in and out of the World Trade Center. Millions of the people were in
morning rush hour on their way from their homes to work. The World Trade Center was a symbol of
U.S. power and financial strength, but that was about to change. A few minutes after 9:00 a.m., the
sky was not sunny and clear as it had just been minutes before. There was smoke, dust, and debris
everywhere. Two jet airplanes, hijacked by religious terrorists, crashed into the twin towers of the
World Trade Center and blowup. The impact left a gasping, burning hole in both of the towers,
killing hundreds of people almost instantly and trapping thousands more in higher floors. The
collision caused a gigantic explosion that showered burning debris over surrounding buildings and
the streets below. A third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington D.C., and the fourth plane
crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. America was under attack. Over 3,000 people were killed during
the attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., including more than 400 police officers and
firefighters. This lead to millions of people trapped with no way of escaping the twin towers. They
knew they would not make it back home to their friends and family members. Can you imagine the

North Tower Of The World Trade Center
On September 11, 2001, at 8:45 AM, Eastern Time, American Airlines flight 111, headed from
Boston smashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York. An hour later, a
second plane crashed into the south tower at 550 miles an hour. The south tower only lasted 56
minutes, collapsing straight down, killing thousands of people, and creating a dust cloud that sent
people scurrying for cover in the streets below. The north tower didn't last much longer, also
collapsing straight down, setting surrounding buildings ablaze with it. A third plane hit the pentagon,
and a fourth plane, destined for the white house, was retaken by passengers and crashed in a field in
northern Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people lost their lives in a single day, making the 9/11 attacks the
most deadly terrorist action in history. America, needless to say, was hurt, and enraged. On
September 20, 2001, President George W. Bush "declared war on terrorism" in a speech to congress,
saying, after listing demands to the Taliban, "If you do not hand over the terrorists, you will share in
their fate." This began a decades–long fight against terrorism in the Middle East. Since 2001, Al
Qaeda, the terrorist group who carried out the 9/11 attacks has been all but vanquished. However, Al
Qaeda was by no means alone in its extremist views of Islam. Since then, other groups have risen.
The most notable of these has risen quite recently, coming to America's attention in the past 2 years.

Essay On The New York Trade Center
In what is considered to be the most devastating event in history, and the largest terrorist attack in
American history, the New York Trade Center was rammed by jetliners just three days ago, creating
an inconceivable scene seemingly from a movie. Ash, fire, glass, shrapnel, screams, sirens, and
terror filled the streets of New York City after 19 terrorists from the group, al–Qaeda took control of
two jets and flew them into the North and South tower on the morning of September 11th, 2001. An
official death toll has not yet been reported as bodies are constantly being discovered throughout the
disastrous scene. There is presumably many individuals that were stuck inside as there was no time

The hijackers were said to have been armed with knives and boxcutters as one woman, Barbara
Olson, managed to reach out to her husband through a cell phone box before the plane made impact.
Mayor Rudolph W Giuliani stated that has "a sense that it's a horrendous number of lives lost" and
"right now [they] have to focus on saving as many lives possible."
At first, the man behind this act was unknown as no one took responsibility. Shortly thereafter they
came to the realization that an attack to this scale and sophistication would take extraordinary
planning. It would require experience to take over modern jetliners, and along with this, the major
attacks on American soil in recent years led them to believe that Osama Bin Laden was responsible.
Since addressed about the suspicion, he has denied the claims made by the United States
government. Following the attack, President Bush has claimed that "the search is underway for
those who are behind the evil acts" and that he "will make no distinction between the terrorists who
committed these acts and those who harbor them".
Since the attacks, flights have all been shut down along with all airports. International flights have
been diverted to Canada and the Mexican and Canadian borders have been closed off. Major
buildings and infrastructures have such been evacuated, such as Disney theme parks and the Golden
gate bridge in preparation for another attack to follow. Public transportation to the capital of the

World Trade Center Memorial The World Trade Center Memorial commemorates the September 11,

found at the former location of the Twin Towers in New York. These fountains that rest in the
footprints of the towers are a powerful reminders of our nations history and all the lives that were
lost that day. This memorial is ultimately successful because it evokes emotion, whether that be
sadness or possibly a feeling of serenity or stillness. The memorial was commissioned by Lower

"I don't care if Peter is described as this or that," he says. "It's my design."' The announcement of
Michael Arad's design winning the competition was the start of controversy for this memorial.
Daniel Libeskind was furious that he won because Arad's design completely destroyed the vision he
had for the space. "I will fight this!" he yelled during his first meeting about it with the LMDC. "I
am the people's architect!" Daniel want the slurry wall to be present in the memorial and have the
whole site set below the main street. Arad felt that this would disconnect the memorial from the life
of the city. His opinion won and the slurry wall can still be viewed below the memorial in the
museum. That was only the beginning of conflict between architects in this process of construction.
Many victims' groups hated Arad's design as well. They hated the fact that fountains when

idea of absence is common in counter memorials. How can someone depict the incomprehensible
events with a comprehensive memorial? "A primary solution to the problem has been the formalized
absence given by deconstructivism." I think the use of absences is what gives this memorial
strength. 9/11 was a major day in our nation's history, therefore it should have an immense

The Worst Day Of The World Trade Center
The Worst Day
Fourteen years ago on September 11, at 8:46 a.m. on a beautiful tuesday morning, a plane struck the
north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The unexpected crash killed hundreds of
people inside instantly, leaving millions in shock. At 9:04 a.m. a second plane sliced into the south
tower causing a massive explosion near the 60th floor. At 9:45 a.m. another plane struck the
Pentagon military headquarters in Washington D.C., causing a portion of the building to collapse.
Fifteen minutes after the plane struck the Pentagon, the south tower of the World Trade Center
collapsed; at 10:30 a.m., the second tower collapsed killing close to 3,000 people. Lt. Col. Shelton F.
Leskford, a U.S. Marine stated, "Sept. 11, 2001 seems destined to be the watershed event of our
lives and the greatest test for our democracy in our lifetimes" (Ross). This attack by the Osama bin
Laden–led al–Qaeda terrorist group was one of the most horrific events in history and continues to
impact the world today. September 11, 2001 marks the most significant event in the 21st century,
because of this event, the United States has incurred substantial debt and economic downturn, the

Deafening silence has now replaced the chaos and the atmosphere is sobering. The rest of the movie
focuses on Officer Jimeno and Sgt. McCloughlin being buried in the rubble of the towers. Both
officers are immobilized about twenty feet apart. The scenes of them conversing are quite dramatic
and very personal. It feels as if the viewer is right there with them experiencing the darkness that
they are in. These two men in a sense, even though they are pinned, are able to be a crisis
interventionist to each other providing encouragement in their words and driving each other to
survive the ordeal until they are rescued. The movie put most of its focus on the two officers buried
in the rubble and also that of their families. There was little shown of the people who escaped the
towers in need of crisis intervention. It really does not take much more than those few scenes to
know the magnitude of the devastation that was affecting anyone in and around the buildings. To
bring any kind of order and or provide a sense of stabilization to those traumatized by the event, it
will take skilled interventionists with knowledge, strength and the right resources. One thing that is
of crucial importance when trying to alleviate a crisis is timing. It is very important that crisis
interventionist be available as soon after a traumatic event as possible. The first important step in
alleviating the crisis is timing. It is very important for crisis interventionists to be on the

Terrorist Attacks On The World Trade Center
September 11th, 2001. It is a date that will always be remembered as the date of random terrorist
attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. These cruel events took terrorist attacks within
the United States, suppress the susceptibility of the United States to terrorism, and diminish damage
and assist in recovery against any unwanted attacks.
Congress 's main focus for Homeland Security is "Intelligence and warning; Border and
transportation security; domestic counterterrorism; protecting critical infrastructure; defending
against catastrophic threats; and emergency preparedness and response (Whitehouse 1)". The
department of Homeland Security is extended throughout the United States with valuable
information that is constantly being thrown back and forth across the United States. "In 2001, about
3 million people were employed in protective services, or about 2.3 percent of the 130 million U.S.

protective services workers had grown to 3.1 million. Still 2.3 percent of the total (Cassel 1)".

Manifestation of sacred in form of hierophany creates a break in the homogeneity of space and that
break becomes axis mundi (21). Discovery of break in the homogenous space Eliade deems
equivalent to creation of the world as it allows people to find orientation in the chaos (22–23). Axis
mundi is often represented as vertical line what reaches towards heaven such a s pillar, ladder,
mountain or tree ( Eliade 36–37). Axis mundi in terms of 9/11 Memorial is rather imaginary. Clearly
there are no more twin towers and no visible vertical line. Some might argue that new freedom

imaginary axis. Somehow this imaginary center becomes even more powerful. Every year, blue
tribute light shooting to the sky make that axis mundi visible for split moment. There is a special
connection made between past and present, between dead and living, and between humans and
divine in that very moment. Even though Eliade focuses mostly on how religious men perceives
sacred spaces, he also makes a point that, despite all differences, there is underlining similarity in a
way religious and no religious man experience scared spaces. Certain events and places in people's
lives have such profound effect on their lives that they become in a way "holy" to them.

World Trade Center Reflection
The terrorist attack on the World Trade Center changed American citizens lives forever. On
September 11, 2016 some people risked their lives to save others, others experienced the terror, and
many had to watch the tragedy unfold. This day brought American citizens together, when people
needed it the most.
Immediately, after the brutal attack every mode of transportation was closed and people were trying
to find a way out of Manhattan. Average people were stepping up to save the people that were
stranded. Most New Yorkers last thought would be to get on a boat, but people were now packed on
every square inch of surface possible. After, one of the boaters called out for all available boats to
come help evacuate citizens from lower Manhattan. There were more than one hundred boats from

Tensile Testing In The World Trade Center
Introduction
The World Trade Center was a global icon of The United States of America. The tallest of the
buildings was over 1,300 feet high (10). With such large buildings, the materials used in
construction needed to meet certain standards just to successfully stand erect. The design intent has
the biggest factor for the material selection. In the World Trade Centers, the materials were supposed
to meet certain properties and requirements. The analysis of whether or not the World Trade Center
buildings were built to requirements will be discussed.

centers. The strength needs to be high in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, it was found to be true that the measured strength typically was greater than the specified
strength, which indicates that the factor of safety is met (8). However, some tests have measured
strengths less than the specified strength (8). Figure 1 displays the factor of safety in each region of
the towers. Anything with a R–value less than 1, had a yield strength less than the specified
requirements. Due to this, the part is not classified as defective, but is a form of quality control (8).
This is important because each area of the building needed to be inspected to ensure that there were
no specific regions of failure. The parts of lower strengths have been analyzed and it has been
determined that they had no contribution to the failure of the buildings (8). The factors of safety
were generally met. Figure 1: R measurement versus specified yield strength (8)
○ Ductility
Having a ductile fracture rather than a brittle fracture is important. A ductile fracture is able to
absorb more energy than a brittle fracture can (8). Figure 2 shows the relationship between brittle
and ductile metals and their fracture points in a stress/strain diagram. A brittle fracture can withstand
more stress, but only when lower strains are applied. A ductile fracture can withstand less stress, but
can withstand more strain. This figure illustrates this relationship

Numerous reasons and possibilities circulate through out the world as to if the United States
government had ties to the happenings on September 11th, 2001. Evidence to dispute 9/11 being an

The World Trade Center Of The United States
On September 11th, 2001, terrorism reached American soil; attacks were specifically made on
Lower Manhattan, causing the destruction of every World Trade Center associated building. The
attack to this day has still instilled fear of terrorism in our society, and is an event New Yorkers will
never forget. Dating back to July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed in the
United States, declaring the thirteen colonies free from Great Britain. It is no coincidence that the
new 1 WTC, previously known as the Freedom Tower, reaches its maximum height of 1,776 feet.
The name "Freedom Tower" was originally used to symbolize America as a nation to rise above the
attacks on the original towers. Architectures strategically planned out its symbolic height to match
up with its specific chosen name of the building. However, the owners decided to change the
building name back to One World Trade Center due to the fact that the building was going to be
used as an office building and not for marketing. Nonetheless, many people still refer to 1 WTC as
the Freedom Tower. Fast forward ten years later from the attack, on September 11th, 2011, the 9/11
Memorial officially opened for public use. The 9/11 Memorial has not only been one of New York's
biggest tourist destinations that attracts crowds of thousands on a daily basis, but it has also acted as
an area that brings back many memories and emotions for those with any association of that day.

The Terrorist Attack On The World Trade Center
The two terrorist attacks that I will examine are the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center that
took place on February 26, 1993 and The Boston Marathon Bombing took place on April 15. 2013. I
will also be providing an overview of the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center and the Boston
Marathon Bombing. I will explain the lessons learned from each attack in my own opinion. I will
also describe what protective measures were taken during the attacks to prevent further casualties
and injuries.
The attack on The World Trade Center took place at approximately noon on February 26, 1993.
Ramzi Yousef and Eyad Ismoil drove a van that they rented in to the parking garage of The World
Trade Center in Manhattan, New York. Inside the van ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
station and the power. The explosion created large amount debris that pinned people between rubble.
The blast was strong enough to destroy the use of the World Trade Center back up power supply.
The ventilation system in the building was filled with smoke and filled each floor with smoke.
During the investigation law enforcement found pieces of the vehicle that was used to blow up The
World Trade Center and was able to track it back to the rental company that the men rented it from.
One of the men involved Mohammed Salameh returned to the vehicle rental location and asked for
his refund and then was arrested. The investigators were able to locate the suspect's apartments,
storage unit and the other suspects involved in the explosion. The men involved in the explosion
were arrested, brought back to the United States and sent to prison.
The Boston Marathon Bombing took place on April 15. 2013 close to the finish line of a marathon
that was taking place. The individual responsible for the terrorist attack were two brothers by the
names of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The two brothers created bombs from nails
and other items in a pressure cooker which they learned to make from an online website. The
Tsarnaev brothers placed the pressure cooker in backpacks. The two back packs with the pressure
cookers were placed in the crowed near the finish line and went off around the same time as the
runners were passing the finish

The Crash Of The World Trade Center
Tuesday, September 11th, 2001 began as a normal, late summer day in New York City, New York. It
started as a beautiful morning, with its sky cloudless and bright with the shining sun. Despite the
seemingly peaceful morning, a sequence of catastrophic events occurred and caused the day to take
a turn for the worst. Anything that made the day appear normal drastically changed.
On the morning of the September 11th attacks, or the attacks of 9/11, four passenger airplanes were
hijacked by terrorists. Two airplanes collided into the North and South towers of the World Trade
Center in New York, a third airplane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a fourth
airplane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. These plane collisions ... Show more content on

"9:03 am– ...crash United Airlines Flight 175 into floors 75–85 of the WTC's South Tower"
(History.com Staff). Like the crash into the North Tower, the crash into the South Tower killed
everybody aboard and hundreds inside the building. After the second tower was smashed into, it was
clear that America was under attack.
Now, both the Twin Towers were engulfed in flames. Numerous people were trapped inside the
towers, since they were on the floors above the impact zone. Many people even leaped to their
deaths, believing it would be better than to die the haunting, horrific death from flames, and/or
smoke inhalation. Even with both 110–story buildings ablaze, the tragedy was far from finished.
Although the South Tower was the second to be struck, it was the first to fall. Less than one hour
after the airplane smashed into it, the entire building collapsed. "9:59 am– The South Tower of the
World Trade Center collapses" (History.com Staff). As soon as the building crumpled to the ground,
thick clouds of dust and smoke filled the surroundings. Then, just under a half hour later, the North
Tower fell in the same manner as the South Tower. "10:28 am– The World Trade Center's North
Tower collapses, 102 minutes after being struck by Flight 11" (History.com Staff). In less than two
hours, the Twin Towers of The World Trade Center that had once scraped the sky, had been
diminished to ashes and remains.
Meanwhile, as the catastrophe

The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing Essay

  • 1. The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing Essay The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing On February 26, 1993 at 12:18 pm in New York City, the first call was received at the Central Office from a street alarm box at the corner of West and Liberty Streets. The call was reporting a possible transformer vault (or manhole) explosion on West Street near the World Trade Center. As manhole explosions are common in wet whether, there was no hint of a major catastrophe until the phones never ceased to ring after aid had arrived to the site. Numerous phone calls continued, now reporting smoke in the towers of the Trade Center as far up as the 33rd floor within the first three minutes of the explosion (http://members.aol.com/fd347/wtc.htm). The ceiling then collapsed in the train station, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Yousef was charged with ordering and mixing the chemicals to make the bomb, co–defendant Eyad Ismoil was accused of driving the van carrying the bomb into the World Trade Center's underground garage. In an article for CNN on the 5th of November 1997, jury deliberations were said to have begun. The two men, Ramzi Yousef, 29, and Eyad Ismoil, 26, were both charged with conspiring to set off a bomb February 26, 1993, at the Center. U.S. Attorney Lev Dessin said that the pair believed they were above the law and set off the bomb to terrify Americans. Prosecutors say the pair and four other men who were convicted earlier, hoped that the bombing would persuade the U.S. to stop giving aid to Israel ttp://europe.cnn.com/US/9711/05/trade. center.trial/). Yousef, a 29 year old electrical engineer, was arrested in Islamabad, Pakistan, in February 1995, and extradited to the United States. Prosecutors say that he was the ringleader of the plot. • 2. The Day The World Trade Center Collapsed Throughout history, many tragedies and sorrowful situations have occurred having to do with issues such as wealth and money, power, control, and other issues. One of these times in history is during the frightening event of 9/11, also known as the day the World Trade Center collapsed by hijacked planes. This one event alone has impacted and changed the way people live today significantly. The reaction of American people after this infamous event of the September 11, 2001 tragedy was of multiple things including patriotism, pride, and being united. Quickly, the American public wanted to know who was responsible and planned revenge. This usually gives the government the public support it needs to declare war on the enemy and declare a war which never happened. Throughout history, there have been numerous false flag operations done by government and militaries. This is exactly what happened on September 11, 2001. This can date back to the founding fathers of America in 1787, when they dreamt of a stable and balanced government for the people of the United States, by the people themselves to lead. Leaders of the country did not have the people of America in mind when they executed these attacks solely for their own personal gain. The September 11 attacks were a false flag operation to take the US into a war in the Middle East. The ideas and brains behind the attacks, the hijackings performed and the US leader's motives for war all prove that the September 11 attacks was a well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. 1993 World Trade Center Bombing Analysis 1993 World Trade Center Bombing On February 26, 1993, Middle Eastern inspired terrorism truly hit the United States homeland. A small group of seven terrorists rented a van, parked it in the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center, departed and then detonated it. The explosion resulted in six killed, more than one thousand injured, and a nearly 100 foot crater that was several stories deep. (FBI, 2008). The ensuing investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and New York Joint Terrorism Task Force and many FBI agents worldwide. The investigation revealed many clues. The first was the vehicle identification number for the rented van, which led to the arrest of Mohammad Salameh. More clues eventually led to the arrest of five other members of the group. After the attack, the Port Authority spent vast sums of money to repair the building as well as improving the operational and safety capabilities of the facility. Security was strengthened and all visitors were required to be screened and receive visitor badges. A radio repeater was also installed to improve communications within the entire complex. The blast was set off by anti–government extremist named Timothy McVeigh who was executed in 2001 for his crimes(Oklahoma City bombing). • 5. The Causes And Impacts Of The World Trade Center The original World Trade Center, constructed between 1975 and 1985, was a complex of seven buildings occupying a 16 block area in Lower Manhattan. At the heart of the World Trade Center (WTC) stood 1 WTC and 2 WTC, also known as the Twin Towers. These towers occupied nearly an acre each and stood 110 stories high. When completed, 1 WTC was the tallest building in the world. The Twin Towers stood as a symbol of America's power in the global economy. Because of this, the World Trade Center was a massive target for terrorism. On February 26th, 1993, a small moving truck was filled with 1500 pounds of explosives and detonated in the underground parking garage of the North Tower. This attack killed 6 people, injured over a thousand and lead to structural damage in the subsurface structure of the tower. Unfortunately, this was just a warning of what was yet to come. On September 11th, 2001, two commercial airliners were hijacked by terrorists and flown into the North and South Towers (1 WTC and 2 WTC). The impact from these crashes and the heat caused by the burning of excess jet fuel after the impact caused the buildings to collapse killing over 2600 people. Debris from the collapse damaged the remainder of the seven buildings eventually leading to them being demolished. To recover from the physical and emotional loss in Lower Manhattan, a new World Trade Center has been planned. The site is now home to the new 1 WTC (The Freedom Tower), 2 WTC, 3 WTC, 4 WTC, 7 WTC, National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and the World Trade Center Transportation Hub. The focal point of the new World Trade Center is the new 1 WTC. Also known as the Freedom Tower, the new 1 WTC is owned by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. The tower's 3,100,000 square feet of floor space is managed operated and leased by the Durst Organization. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill was faced with the challenge of not only designing a building, but designing "an icon representing perseverance, innovation, and urban modernism" (Lewis & Holt). The building is designed using a highly redundant steel moment frame and core to enhance rigidity while leaving the floor space free of columns. • 6. Analysis Of The Movie ' World Trade Center ' Abstract The movie World Trade Center (2006) recalls the accounts of two Port Authority police officers, Sgt. World Trade Center Explosion Essay Lessons from the 1993 WTC Explosion for Business Continuity Plan Development Introduction Every incidence, of whatever kind, that occurs to a person, a corporation or a country leaves an impact of its kind. The most important thing is the lessons, which the stakeholders concerned learn from that incidence. Bombing incidences are often a result of terror attacks and the lessons or the action plans that ensue from any successful terror attack are not something intelligent minds can underscore (Knowles, 2003). The Outcome of the Attack The attack had devastating outcome that traversed across many sectors of the economy. In fact it took a nearly a month to figure out the next course of action (Hiles, 2007). Meanwhile, rescue mission intensified as a result of disaster declarations, businesses were closed down, the building was considerably destroyed and many companies rerouted their telecommunication and information channels and systems to alternative sites (Hiles, 2007). Smoke was everywhere and this caused health complications to people trapped inside the tower for a longer time. Security alert intensified throughout the US as people worried which was the next place to be attacked. The Impact of this Incident on Businesses Though there were deaths and injuries that resulted from this explosion, the major impact was in the business community. This is because this twin tower hosted nearly 350 businesses and handled over 80,000 on a daily basis who came to do business with them. The basement of the building had a car parking capacity of 2,000 spaces and this gives tip of how busy this complex was at the time of the explosion (Hiles, 2007). This tragedy brought hem closer to not having this happen The first tragic event that shows how people react to tragedy is the world trade center bombing. Some background of the event is that 6 were killed and more than 1,000 were injured. Research shows that a lot of people thought that it was the end, and that they were never going to recover. On Friday, February 26, 1993, Ramzi Yousef and a Jordanian friend, Eyad Ismoil, drove a yellow Ryder van into Lower Manhattan, and pulled into the public parking garage beneath the World Trade Center around noon. They parked on the underground B–2 level. This had been a different type of terrorist attack than before. But the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, coming a few weeks after President Clinton's swearing–in, was a tipping point in what would become a new type of war against the evolving threat of terrorism. Few people, however, really know the hidden history behind this iconic skyscraper. After the September 11 attacks, plans were quickly drawn up to rebuild the World Trade Center. After a contest was held to redevelop the complex, a proposal from architect Daniel Libeskind was selected as the winner in 2002. The Twin Towers were the key success to The World Trade Center complex, the North Tower stood at 1,268 feet and The South Tower stood at 1,362 feet high. The tallest buildings in New York City held 35,000 people each, along with 430 companies. This created an economic target, as each building represented economic power and freedom. The attack on the World Trade Center created an impact on the financial standing of America, a loss resulting in billions to the airline industry, increased spending due to domestic security and the constructing of a federal agency, Homeland Security. All of these were results of the tragic attack on September 11 on the US economy. The Twin Towers Of The World Trade Center The Twin waterfalls that are placed in the ground where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood serve as a memorial to the events that took place on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The Architect of these twin waterfalls, Michael Arad, wanted to create a memorial that was "stoic and defiant, but also quiet and respectful." Arad explained. "I didn't want a design that felt the need to scream loudly. I felt the site was frightened with so much history, anything we say here is amplified a thousand–fold." The project that Arad had in mind was no easy feat, it took roughly 6 years to complete due to numerous architectural obstacles that the workers had to conquer. This mechanical marvel is able to send water from the bottom of the waterfall back to the top at an astonishing rate of 24,000 gallons per minute. However, gusts of wind cause turbulence on top of the water so the engineers needed to create a system that is not only strong, but also able to variate the power given to these pumps in order to maintain that serene aesthetic look of the water smoothly flowing down the waterfall. This mechanical marvel also boasts filters to take sediment out, UV lights to kill bacteria, and chemical additives to prevent the water from becoming polluted. Every minute detail has been thought of by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker. The World Trade Center Bombing Essay Following the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, Rescorla invited Hill to New York, where he hired him as a security consultant in order to assess the building 's security. Although no arrests had yet been made, Rescorla believed that the bomb had been planted by Muslims. Hill went undercover in several mosques throughout New Jersey, showing up for morning prayers at dawn. He took on the character of an anti–American Muslim, in order to interview the other visitors to the mosques. He concluded that the attack was likely planned by a radical imam at a mosque in New York or New Jersey. Followers of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, a radical Muslim cleric based in Brooklyn, were subsequently convicted of the bombing. Rescorla gained much more credibility and authority after the bombing, which resulted in a change to the culture of Morgan Stanley, which he believed should have moved out of the building because he felt that the World Trade Center was still a very real target for terrorists. He recommended to his superiors at Morgan Stanley that the company should leave their Manhattan office space, mentioning that labor costs were lower in New Jersey and that the firm 's employees and equipment would be safer in a different building. Historical tragedies are the reason we are where we are as a community and country today. They completely alter our thinking and open us up to realizations we had not thought possible. For example, The Holocaust, The Black Plague, and World War I to name a few. However, This is most evident in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that happened in the United States of America. Due to films being a representation of society itself, this tragedy has unsurprisingly had a profound impact on the filmmaking industry. This event was the basis for numerous stereotypes, new political themes, and racial discrimination that we see in films today. Surprisingly, there are not many films based on this event however, as stated in the chapter, there were still some films made based on this tragedy. Most notably, Paul Greengrass's United 93 which was released in 2006 and Oliver Stone's World Trade Center which was interestingly also released in 2006. Due to them being released at the same time and the fact that these are 2 of the most prominent feature films based on 9/11 has led scholars, critics, and others to compare and contrast both of them. Arad felt that this would disconnect the memorial from the life of the city. His opinion won and the slurry wall can still be viewed below the memorial in the museum. That was only the beginning of conflict between architects in this process of construction. Many victims' groups hated Arad's design as well. They hated the fact that fountains when underground instead of rising into the sky. The feeling of absence made them uncomfortable. The idea of absence is common in counter memorials. How can someone depict the incomprehensible events with a comprehensive memorial? "A primary solution to the problem has been the formalized absence given by deconstructivism." I think the use of absences is what gives this memorial strength. 9/11 was a major day in our nation's history, therefore it should have an immense memorial. The Worst Day Of The World Trade Center The Worst Day Fourteen years ago on September 11, at 8:46 a.m. on a beautiful tuesday morning, a plane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The unexpected crash killed hundreds of people inside instantly, leaving millions in shock. At 9:04 a.m. a second plane sliced into the south tower causing a massive explosion near the 60th floor. At 9:45 a.m. another plane struck the Pentagon military headquarters in Washington D.C., causing a portion of the building to collapse. Fifteen minutes after the plane struck the Pentagon, the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed; at 10:30 a.m., the second tower collapsed killing close to 3,000 people. Lt. Col. Shelton F. The movie quickly puts its focus on the civil servants that are getting ready for what they think is just another day in New York. It feels as if the viewer is right there with them experiencing the darkness that they are in. These two men in a sense, even though they are pinned, are able to be a crisis interventionist to each other providing encouragement in their words and driving each other to survive the ordeal until they are rescued. The movie put most of its focus on the two officers buried in the rubble and also that of their families. There was little shown of the people who escaped the towers in need of crisis intervention. It really does not take much more than those few scenes to know the magnitude of the devastation that was affecting anyone in and around the buildings. To bring any kind of order and or provide a sense of stabilization to those traumatized by the event, it will take skilled interventionists with knowledge, strength and the right resources. These cruel events took terrorist attacks within the United States, suppress the susceptibility of the United States to terrorism, and diminish damage and assist in recovery against any unwanted attacks. Congress 's main focus for Homeland Security is "Intelligence and warning; Border and transportation security; domestic counterterrorism; protecting critical infrastructure; defending against catastrophic threats; and emergency preparedness and response (Whitehouse 1)". The department of Homeland Security is extended throughout the United States with valuable information that is constantly being thrown back and forth across the United States. "In 2001, about 3 million people were employed in protective services, or about 2.3 percent of the 130 million U.S. workers. Four years later, nationwide employment was up to 132 million, and the number of protective services workers had grown to 3.1 million. Still 2.3 percent of the total (Cassel 1)". Axis mundi is often represented as vertical line what reaches towards heaven such a s pillar, ladder, mountain or tree ( Eliade 36–37). Axis mundi in terms of 9/11 Memorial is rather imaginary. • 30. World Trade Center Reflection The terrorist attack on the World Trade Center changed American citizens lives forever. On September 11, 2016 some people risked their lives to save others, others experienced the terror, and many had to watch the tragedy unfold. This day brought American citizens together, when people needed it the most. Immediately, after the brutal attack every mode of transportation was closed and people were trying to find a way out of Manhattan. Average people were stepping up to save the people that were stranded. Most New Yorkers last thought would be to get on a boat, but people were now packed on every square inch of surface possible. After, one of the boaters called out for all available boats to come help evacuate citizens from lower Manhattan. There were more than one hundred boats from everywhere came in no time. With such large buildings, the materials used in construction needed to meet certain standards just to successfully stand erect. The design intent has the biggest factor for the material selection. In the World Trade Centers, the materials were supposed to meet certain properties and requirements. The analysis of whether or not the World Trade Center buildings were built to requirements will be discussed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, it was found to be true that the measured strength typically was greater than the specified strength, which indicates that the factor of safety is met (8). However, some tests have measured strengths less than the specified strength (8). Figure 1 displays the factor of safety in each region of the towers. Anything with a R–value less than 1, had a yield strength less than the specified requirements. Due to this, the part is not classified as defective, but is a form of quality control (8). This is important because each area of the building needed to be inspected to ensure that there were no specific regions of failure. The parts of lower strengths have been analyzed and it has been determined that they had no contribution to the failure of the buildings (8). The factors of safety were generally met. Figure 1: R measurement versus specified yield strength (8) ○ Ductility Having a ductile fracture rather than a brittle fracture is important. A ductile fracture is able to absorb more energy than a brittle fracture can (8). The World Trade Center Of The United States On September 11th, 2001, terrorism reached American soil; attacks were specifically made on Lower Manhattan, causing the destruction of every World Trade Center associated building. The attack to this day has still instilled fear of terrorism in our society, and is an event New Yorkers will never forget. Dating back to July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed in the United States, declaring the thirteen colonies free from Great Britain. It is no coincidence that the new 1 WTC, previously known as the Freedom Tower, reaches its maximum height of 1,776 feet. The name "Freedom Tower" was originally used to symbolize America as a nation to rise above the attacks on the original towers. Architectures strategically planned out its symbolic height to match up with its specific chosen name of the building. However, the owners decided to change the building name back to One World Trade Center due to the fact that the building was going to be used as an office building and not for marketing. Nonetheless, many people still refer to 1 WTC as the Freedom Tower. Fast forward ten years later from the attack, on September 11th, 2011, the 9/11 Memorial officially opened for public use.
