What Does The Cat In The Sky Mean
In THE GOLDEN CAT, Gabriel King continues the enchanting quest that began with The Wild
Road––the novel the San Francisco Chronicle crowned "mythical, " and Richard Adams, author of
Watership Down, deemed "absolutely magical. . ."
The ancient prophecy speaks of a golden cat whose coming will heal the troubled world. But the
Queen of Cats has three golden kittens––and when two are stolen away, the distraught parents turn
to Tag, the brave young cat who is the protector of the magical Wild Road.
The desperate search moves from the water–lit Oceanarium and sun–dappled Tintagel to the distant
Louisiana bayous and the pyramids of Egypt. As Tag and his friends struggle on, so does a
terrifying, unearthly force––a preternatural vortex threatening the Wild Road, tearing at the very
fabric of existence. But Tag is disastrously unprepared for the powerful darkness that threatens to
consume everything in its walk.
This poem by W.B Yeats explores a cat dancing in the moonlight which indicates very childlike
images. The cat in the poem (Minnaloushe) allegedly belonged to Maude Gonne, who was in fact a
lifelong obsession ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the moon is on its own in the sky, the cat is also noted as "alone, important and wise". Another
similarity between the two is that of their changing. The moon changes shape throughout its phases
from circular to crescent, just as the cat's eyes will change "from round to crescent, From crescent to
round". This in itself can be interpreted as some sort of a dance. This shows that although the two
are different in so many ways, they are still 'close kindred' and can change with each other. The
changes in the cat's eyes could be its eyes dilating, or could be the reflections of the moon in its
eyes, seeming to change as the moon does. However, more importantly, the changing of the cat's
eyes could also link with Gonne's changing relationships with various other

Research Paper On Madame Blavatsky
During her lifetime Helena touched notable people like John L. O'Sullivan, ex–Ambassador to
Portugal and P. B. Randolph, a leading member of the Rosicrucian society("Helena Petrovna
Blavatsky"). Her dear friend and partner Colonel Olcott paid tribute to her prior to her death, saying
"HPB's enthusiasm was aflame at which all our Theosophists lit their torches, an example which
stirred one's blood like the sound of a war trumpet! It is no wonder that I have loved her as a friend,
prized her as a teacher, and for evermore kept her memory sacred" (Wilson). People then and now
remained very divided on their opinion of Madame Blavatsky. Some held her in high regard as a

Blessed Be: Wiccan Traditions
Blessed Be has become a casual greeting between many, used in the same way as Merry Meet and
Merry Part which Neo–pagans say in greeting each other, A form of Hello and Goodbye. This is
unfortunate, Blessed Be is a sacred term, to be blessed. It's roots go deep and well into many
religions, it can even be found in the Christian Bible:, ""I will bless you, I will make your name
great." : in Judaism "Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe..." this is a Jewish
blessing for moments of joy.
It has been used in seems to have first appeared in the Wiccan Traditions as part of an initiation and
dedication rituals found in Gerald Gardner's Book of Shadows. It is an important part of "The Five

Hundred of years before the Wiccan traditions appeared the term Blessed Be had been used in
Ceremonial Magic and also Thelema and Hermeticism; both religions of spiritual philosophy.
Aleister Crowley, author, magician and member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was
instrumental in developing Thelema philosophy into what it is today. He wrote the "Book Of Law"
in which it is stated; "The word of the law is Thelema": Thelema comes from the Greek word
meaning "will" or "intention". It further states "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law"
which is very similar to the Wiccan Rede.
The dictionary defines the word "Blessed" "to make holy", "endow with divine favor and
protection"and the word "Bless""To invoke divine favor on". While the saying of it to each other in
greeting seems respectful ie: "May you be blessed.", these definitions help to demonstrate the
importance of the phrase and that it should not be used lightly. To use the term "Blessed Be" is akin
to asking The Goddess or Powers That Be to be one with that person, to "Bless" that person and so

Analysis Of The Poem ' The Song Of Wandering Aengus ' By...
Yeats: Youthful Desires
"To burn with desire and keep quiet about it is the greatest punishment we can bring on ourselves." –
Federico Garcia Lorca (Blood Wedding)
William Butler Yeats was not a man to keep quiet about his passions. He expresses his need for
more than just reality throughout his poems, longing for the youthful desires of his heart. Yeats often
talks about escaping reality and shifting to a realm of fantasy in which his deepest thoughts are
brought forth. He reveals his unrequited love through the visionary elements in his poems. His use
of sensory detail in each of the poems increases the fantastical notion of the poems. Yeats longs for
the things he can no longer attain, such as love and youth. Two poems that display his youthful
desires are "The Song of Wandering Aengus" and "The Wild Swans at Coole."
In "The Song of Wandering Aengus," Yeats is not only longing for youth, but also for his love to be
returned. The title itself is a Celtic symbol of the young god of love, Aengus. He gives the reader a
foreshadowing of what the poem will be about before the first line is even read, by adding this
mythological symbol to the title. In this poem, he takes himself out of reality and places it in nature,
"I went out to the hazel wood" (ln 1). Nature here is a representative of creation, perhaps using
nature as an escape from reality to create his own realm. This hazel wood (ln 1) can equally be an
allusion to gaining knowledge, as was the Celtic belief that could

Essay about Witchcraft
Witchcraft
Many religions have been misunderstood by people. Sometimes their ignorance and beliefs cannot
be opened up to the truth. Witchcraft is one of those religions. The majority of people have
sometimes compared Witchcraft to Satanism or any religion dealing with the occult. In fact,
Witchcraft is sometimes referred to as the "Old Religion", and is completely different from the
misconceptions of people. It is certainly one of the most misunderstood religions. It will continue to
remain to be misunderstood if people insist on keeping a closed mind on the subject and believe the
stories and rumors that have been misconstrued over the years. Witchcraft is considered to be one of

Gardner. In the mid–1960's several Americans went to England and brought back the teachings of
Gerald Gardner thereby forming the modern Witchcraft of today. "The word 'witch' is derived from
the Old English meaning wicca, it is pronounced 'witcha' meaning male witch , and wicce,
pronounced 'witcheh' meaning female witch" (Russell 12). Witches believe in the Goddess and the
God. They are believed to be the sole creator of the universe. The Goddess represents Mother
Nature or Mother Earth. She is associated with the moon, fertility, the hunt, and Modern Witchcraft.
She has many names but is commonly known as Diana. She has many names and many shapes, but
over all, the Goddess is anything a witch wants her to be. The God is named "The Horned God". He
represents the sun, grain, and is seen in the woodlands. The witches associate The God with Pan, the
Greek god of fertility. This is one of the reasons that many Christians believe Witchcraft to be evil.
During the time of the persecution of witches, the Christians mistook the worshipping of the fertility
god, Pan, as the worshipping of Satan, who the Christians believed to be horned, have a tail, hairy
legs, and hooves. The misconceptions of Witchcraft have been inaccurate and misleading. The
biggest misunderstanding about Witchcraft is its affiliation with Satanism. Satan is a demonic figure
from the Christian belief, not from Witchcraft. In Witchcraft there is no deity that is

What is a king to a god? Even if that god has committed unspeakable acts? Leda and the Swan is a
poem that causes a lot controversy; some people feel that Zeus raped Leda where as others feel that
she was seduced. William Butler Yeats officially published this poem in 1928. He was known as one
of the world's greatest authors of his time. Yeats was born in Sandymount, Republic of Ireland on
June 13,1865 and lived to be 74 years old. He was very proud of his Irish nationality and
"maintained his cultural roots, featuring Irish legends and heroes in many of his poems and plays."

Greek mythology was the Greek religion; it explained life, death and the entirety of the world to
them. Some scholars wonder if the Leda and the Swan was a way Yeats used to show how he truly
felt about Ireland's downward spiral; how the English were destroying their culture and way of life.
Scholars developed this theory based on the social–political issues going on between England and
Ireland at the time the poem was written. Leda and the Swan is written as a sonnet. The particular
type used by Yeats is referred to as a Petrarchan sonnet; a sonnet is defined as "...a fourteen–lined
poem divided into unequal parts." ("Kennedy, X J, and Dana Gioia."). There are multiple types of
sonnets, such as Italian sonnet, English sonnet, etc. Yeats was very creative in the sense that he starts
out with an English style sonnet and then switches to an Italian style sonnet as the poem develops.
The general rhyming scheme that Leda and the Swan has is: ABAB CDCD EFGEFG. In sonnets,
there is something known as the "turn" which is when the entire poem shifts from talking about one
thing to something else. In Leda and the Swan, this turn is when it goes from talking about Leda and
the swan to the Trojan War.
The poem would be quite confusing to any reader that doesn't understand that it is about Greek
mythos and written in the sonnet style. The wording itself isn't hard to grasp. The real challenge is
the understanding of the background story of

On June 13 1865 William Butler Yeats was born in Dublin Ireland. From the start Yeats had artistic
influences, due to the fact that his father Jack Butler Yeats was a noted Irish painter. He had no
formal education until he was eleven, at that time he started at the Godolphin Grammar School in

Throughout his schooling he was considered disappointing student, his studies were inconsistent, he
was prone to day dreaming, and poor at sports. In 1884 Yeats found his way to the Metropolitan

Their relationship went through a lot including Gonne's short–lived marrige to John McBride. Most
of Yeats's poetry is addressed to her. Yeats associated her with Helen of Troy, whose capriciousness
led to the destruction of a civilization. In 1986 Yeats became friends with Lady Isabella Augusta
Gregory, a nationalist playwright. Together Yeats and Lady Gregory helped to found the Abbey
Theater. As the director and dramatist Yeats helped to turn it into a leading theatrical company of the
world and a center of the Irish Renaissance. Near the Turn of the century Yeats fought to abandon
his old style of writing, at this time his writing became less mystical and symbolic and it became
clearer. Yeats eventually got married in 1917, at the age of 52. His wife was Georgie Hyde–Lees,
while on their honeymoon she discovered that she had mediumistic abilities. Through automatic
writing she could communicate with a visionary realm. In Yeats's later years he became more
involved in politics. From 1922 – 1928 he was a senator for the Irish Free State. In 1923 Yeats
received the Nobel Prize for literature, and died on January 18 1939 in Roquebrune France. Yeats

The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats
William Butler Yeats is considered to be one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century. As stated
in an online source, "he belonged to the protestant, Anglo–Irish minority. Yeats was not a set person,
in his earlier life he lived in London. Also, Yeats had a very interesting love life as a poet. It is very
clear that he was an explanatory poet. Ones objective of this paper is to identify and discuss the
significance of William Butler Yeats. However, the minority Yeats belonged to belonged to the
Protestant, Anglo–Irish minority that had controlled the economic, political, social, and cultural life
of Ireland since at least the end of the seventeenth century. Most members of this minority
considered themselves English people who merely happened to have been born in Ireland (The
World Book Encyclopedia World Book, Inc.) Although he lived in London for fourteen years of his
childhood, Yeats maintained his cultural roots. He was very confidential with himself as an artist.
This conviction led many to accuse him of elitism, but it also help contributed to his greatness.
Eighteen eighty–five was an important year in Yeats' early adult life, marking the first publication,
in the Dublin University Review. It was also the year that he met John O'Leary, a famous patriot
who had returned to Ireland after totaling twenty years of imprisonment and exile for revolutionary
nationalistic activities. Yeats, who had preferred more romantic settings and themes, soon took

The Theme Of Archetypal Images In Yeats The Wild Swans At...
This paper seeks to address those archetypal images embedded in Yeats' "The Wild Swans at Coole"
that are designed to provide a context through which Yeats illuminates its entire design of the soul's
eternity. By applying archetypal approach, the paper finds that there is a direct correspondence
between the poet's quest for his whole vision of personality and his creative flourish in art. Through
the chief symbol of the poem, swans, the poet discovers his anti–self in nature and restores the unity
of his whole being. This task will be accomplished by bringing to light specific affinities between
the theme of the timelessideals of art and the immortal beauty and love of the imperishable swans.

Essay about William Butler Yeats
William Butler Yeats. William Butler Yeats was the major figure in the cultural revolution which
developed from the strong nationalistic movement at the end of the 19th century. He dominated the
writings of a generation. He established forms and themes which came to be considered as the
norms for writers of his generation. Yeats was a confessional poet – that is to say, that he wrote his
poetry directly from his own experiences. He was an idealist, with a purpose. This was to create Art
for his own people – the Irish. But in so doing, he experienced considerable frustration and
disillusionment. The tension between this ideal, and the reality is the basis of much of his writing.
One central theme of his earlier poetry is the contrast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the final stanza, the poet's mood of anger and bitterness changes to one of acceptance and
resignation. He concludes that these petty minded merchants are so locked into their narrow world
of self centred survival, that they are incapable of understanding the motivation and self sacrifice of
patriotism. Even if the dead heroes could return and confront the merchants with the extent of their
sacrifices, they would be unable to understand or appreciate what they had done. Self interest and
materialism reign, idealism is dead and buried. He concludes on a weary note of acceptance. But let
them be, they're dead and gone, They're with O'Leary in the grave. The Fisherman. This poem is
also about Art, and the Irish people's response to it. It is structured around the contrast between the
Yeats' dream to write for the Irish people, and the reality. The poem opens on a casual
conversational note, Although I can see him still introducing us to the Fisherman, a wise and simple
man who is the symbol of the Irish nation he had hoped to write for. Yeats has long since accepted
that such a man does not exist, but nonetheless he holds on to him as an inspiration to protect
himself against the reality. The reality is depicted in a litany of powerful, clever men, who misuse
their abilities for their own personal ends – which are chiefly, the acquisition and maintenance of
power. Their goal is public acclaim, cynically acquired through a popularity based on the Catch cries

Essay on The Truth of Love Revealed in Adam’s Curse
The Truth of Love Revealed in Adam's Curse
"Adam's Curse" is a poem by William Butler Yeats that was written at a time when his first true
love, Maud Gonne, had married Major John MacBride. This may have caused Yeats much pain and
Yeats may have felt as cursed as Adam felt when God had punished man from the Garden of Eden.
This poem, in fact, symbolizes his pain and loss of love that he once had and is a recollection of his
memories during happier times with Maud. In the beginning of the poem "We sat together at one
summer's end/ That Beautiful mild woman your close friend/ And you and I, and talked of poetry",
Yeats recalls a beautiful time with Maud. Poetry could be related to the language of love, and Yeats

He is definitely using a parallel to describe his poetry and his short time with Maud. He believes that
falling in love with Maud is so similar to the hard work he puts into the poems he writes. If one were
not too look into the poem they would in fact miss this entirely. Yeats then begins the next part of
the poem quite literally. He recalls a conversation he has with Kathleen, Maud's sister. She is
speaking of beautiful women, and how beauty is not achieved easily. Beauty is not as natural as
many people think.
This beauty blinds a man, just as Yeats was by Maud. Yeats thought Maud was beautiful and did not
see the flaws until now. It is sad, because Yeats now realizes, "there is no fine thing", just as God has
cursed men, he has done the same to women. He is sure that there is neither a perfect romance nor a
perfect woman. He states that it must be labored as the rest of life. Yeats speaks of the traditions that
he followed to court Maud. Men have laid out the laws on how to fall in love, and he followed these
lessons. These traditions now seem frivolous to him, since he doesn't care anymore. They did not
work for him and he lost his love. He is kind of angry that he was foolish enough to believe they
would work. He realizes that love is not an organized process and it, once again, requires

What the book advocates is for the adept to work with "chaos magick," although the term is never
named as such but rather a hodge podge of magical techniques taken from other traditions such as
Levi, Crowley's Thelema and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. While we will not plumb the
depths of the beliefs, philosophies and rituals associated with chaos magick, it is built essentially on
the consciousness/mentalism model of magic where the subconscious mind is the primary generator
of one's reality while connected to outside powers in the universe that will align certain event and
things into one's life. This model is deeply influenced by the Greek Magical Papyri as well as the
Pyramid Texts and the Book of the Dead. In Carroll's magical system, he would advocate one to
reach a state of "Gnosis," through the means of yoga, tantra, psychoactive substances, sex, chanting,
drumming, dancing, dreaming, etc. The aim of the chaos magician is to concentrate on an abstract
idea of one's desire while using one's altered state of consciousness to bring about subconsciousness
into operation for one's wishes to manifest. The guiding moral compass of the chaos magician is

The beginnings and ends of what we choose to call centuries are almost invariably years of little
significance. But there is little agreement over when the twentieth century c.e. arrived, and there
were several points both before the year 2000 (the collapse of the Soviet Union, the reunification of
Germany, the surge of globalization from the mid–1990s) and afterward (9/11, or the global
recession of 2008) when one could quite plausibly argue that a new era had begun. A compelling
case can be made for viewing the decades of the global scramble for colonies after 1870 as a
predictable culmination of the long nineteenth century, which was ushered in by the industrial and
political revolutions of the late 1700s. But at the same time, without serious attention to the
processes and misguided policies that led to decades of agrarian and industrial depression from the
late 1860s to the 1890s, as well as the social tensions and political rivalries that generated and were
in turn fed by imperialist expansionism, one cannot begin to comprehend the causes and
consequences of the Great War that began in 1914. That conflict determined the contours of the
twentieth century in myriad ways. On the one hand, the war set in motion transformative processes
that were clearly major departures from those that defined the nineteenth–century world order. On

A glance at the table of contents is enough to show that the sequence of chapters is erratic and closer
inspection reveals that the scope of individual chapters is far wider than appears at first sight.
Philosophic doctrines (which, according to the author, are the basis of the talismanic art), theory of
magic, astronomical, astrological and physical lore, extensive directions for the practice of the art,
and accounts of the peoples by whom it is employed are jumbled together throughout the book, with
no discernible guiding principle. If a systematic arrangement is anywhere perceptible, it is in the
astrological and astronomical material, though even this is far from selfcontained or methodically
ordered. Subjects which belong together are separated (e.g., the geographical sections on pp.171 ff.
and 394 ff.), long, discursive definitions, appearing in unexpected places, further break the sequence
(e.g., pp.78 and 343)–. and there is a great deal more to make the reader's task more difficult. This
manner of writing may well be intentional, whether to make the magical sections appear less suspect
by interlarding them with theoretical passages, or to make certain doctrines seem less strange by
administering them in small doses, or to demonstrate the equal validity of the magical and
philosophical material, or for a combination of all three reasons. At all events, a similar method of

What Does The Cat In The Sky Mean

  • 1. What Does The Cat In The Sky Mean In THE GOLDEN CAT, Gabriel King continues the enchanting quest that began with The Wild Road––the novel the San Francisco Chronicle crowned "mythical, " and Richard Adams, author of Watership Down, deemed "absolutely magical. . ." The ancient prophecy speaks of a golden cat whose coming will heal the troubled world. But the Queen of Cats has three golden kittens––and when two are stolen away, the distraught parents turn to Tag, the brave young cat who is the protector of the magical Wild Road. The desperate search moves from the water–lit Oceanarium and sun–dappled Tintagel to the distant Louisiana bayous and the pyramids of Egypt. As Tag and his friends struggle on, so does a terrifying, unearthly force––a preternatural vortex threatening the Wild Road, tearing at the very fabric of existence. But Tag is disastrously unprepared for the powerful darkness that threatens to consume everything in its walk. This poem by W.B Yeats explores a cat dancing in the moonlight which indicates very childlike images. The cat in the poem (Minnaloushe) allegedly belonged to Maude Gonne, who was in fact a lifelong obsession ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the moon is on its own in the sky, the cat is also noted as "alone, important and wise". Another similarity between the two is that of their changing. The moon changes shape throughout its phases from circular to crescent, just as the cat's eyes will change "from round to crescent, From crescent to round". This in itself can be interpreted as some sort of a dance. This shows that although the two are different in so many ways, they are still 'close kindred' and can change with each other. The changes in the cat's eyes could be its eyes dilating, or could be the reflections of the moon in its eyes, seeming to change as the moon does. However, more importantly, the changing of the cat's eyes could also link with Gonne's changing relationships with various other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Randolph, a leading member of the Rosicrucian society("Helena Petrovna Blavatsky"). Her dear friend and partner Colonel Olcott paid tribute to her prior to her death, saying "HPB's enthusiasm was aflame at which all our Theosophists lit their torches, an example which stirred one's blood like the sound of a war trumpet! It is no wonder that I have loved her as a friend, prized her as a teacher, and for evermore kept her memory sacred" (Wilson). People then and now remained very divided on their opinion of Madame Blavatsky. Some held her in high regard as a holy guru and others saw her as a fake and a fraud (Kalnitsky, 178).Kalnitsky, Arnold (2003). Aside from touching the lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After her death hundreds of people were left fascinated by who Helena one of the greatest Occultist in the history of Western civilization. Even today hundreds of people remain compelled to learn all about Madame Blavatsky. The fascination likely stems from the mystery surrounding her. Many people are drawn to the many stories of the phenomena she was surrounded by ("Helena Petrovna Blavatsky"). As for the Theosophical Society set up in India today it still has numerous branches throughout India and they continue to spread the teachings of Theosophy (Lahiri). At the time of her death the Society of Theosophy had around 100,000 followers (Wilson). Furthermore she globalized esotericism, made theosophy more women–friendly and all together shaped what theosophy is known as today (Bednarowski). She is also remembered for her remarkable independence. As a woman in the late 1800's she pushed boundaries by traveling all over the world and devoting her life to teaching people around the world about her wondrous Theosophy ... Blessed Be: Wiccan Traditions Blessed Be has become a casual greeting between many, used in the same way as Merry Meet and Merry Part which Neo–pagans say in greeting each other, A form of Hello and Goodbye. This is unfortunate, Blessed Be is a sacred term, to be blessed. It's roots go deep and well into many religions, it can even be found in the Christian Bible:, ""I will bless you, I will make your name great." : in Judaism "Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe..." this is a Jewish blessing for moments of joy. It has been used in seems to have first appeared in the Wiccan Traditions as part of an initiation and dedication rituals found in Gerald Gardner's Book of Shadows. " Hundred of years before the Wiccan traditions appeared the term Blessed Be had been used in Ceremonial Magic and also Thelema and Hermeticism; both religions of spiritual philosophy. Aleister Crowley, author, magician and member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was instrumental in developing Thelema philosophy into what it is today. He wrote the "Book Of Law" in which it is stated; "The word of the law is Thelema": Thelema comes from the Greek word meaning "will" or "intention". It further states "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law" which is very similar to the Wiccan Rede. The dictionary defines the word "Blessed" "to make holy", "endow with divine favor and protection"and the word "Bless""To invoke divine favor on". While the saying of it to each other in greeting seems respectful ie: "May you be blessed.", these definitions help to demonstrate the importance of the phrase and that it should not be used lightly. To use the term "Blessed Be" is akin to asking The Goddess or Powers That Be to be one with that person, to "Bless" that person and so should be used with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having such free capability of practicing what they believe Crowley took this factor to be such a great advantage. In 1912 Crowley than took over the OTO (Campbell 8 ) . When Aleister took control he completely changed the way everything was going. "Crowley redeveloped its rights under the philosophy of Thelmes and redirected it focus to spreading the teachings of Thelemes on a global scale" (Campbell 7 ). Aleister tried his best to spread the philosophy of Thelemes through any people he could talk to and possibly get to. He became so caught up in the fact of spreading Thelemes that he completely changed the way that everything was in the Ordo Templi Orientus was ran. He made everyone follow everything that he was saying and convinced them to the point where they actually believed him. Having so much power Crowley continued to do much as he can so he can let the word about Thelemes philosophy out to as many people he can possibly get to no matter what it meant that had to get done for this to happen (Campbell 4). • 11. Analysis Of The Poem ' The Song Of Wandering Aengus ' By... Yeats: Youthful Desires "To burn with desire and keep quiet about it is the greatest punishment we can bring on ourselves." – Federico Garcia Lorca (Blood Wedding) William Butler Yeats was not a man to keep quiet about his passions. He expresses his need for more than just reality throughout his poems, longing for the youthful desires of his heart. Yeats often talks about escaping reality and shifting to a realm of fantasy in which his deepest thoughts are brought forth. He reveals his unrequited love through the visionary elements in his poems. His use of sensory detail in each of the poems increases the fantastical notion of the poems. Yeats longs for the things he can no longer attain, such as love and youth. Two poems that display his youthful desires are "The Song of Wandering Aengus" and "The Wild Swans at Coole." In "The Song of Wandering Aengus," Yeats is not only longing for youth, but also for his love to be returned. The title itself is a Celtic symbol of the young god of love, Aengus. He gives the reader a foreshadowing of what the poem will be about before the first line is even read, by adding this mythological symbol to the title. In this poem, he takes himself out of reality and places it in nature, "I went out to the hazel wood" (ln 1). Nature here is a representative of creation, perhaps using nature as an escape from reality to create his own realm. This hazel wood (ln 1) can equally be an allusion to gaining knowledge, as was the Celtic belief that could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Witchcraft is one of those religions. The majority of people have sometimes compared Witchcraft to Satanism or any religion dealing with the occult. In fact, Witchcraft is sometimes referred to as the "Old Religion", and is completely different from the misconceptions of people. It is certainly one of the most misunderstood religions. It will continue to remain to be misunderstood if people insist on keeping a closed mind on the subject and believe the stories and rumors that have been misconstrued over the years. In the mid–1960's several Americans went to England and brought back the teachings of Gerald Gardner thereby forming the modern Witchcraft of today. "The word 'witch' is derived from the Old English meaning wicca, it is pronounced 'witcha' meaning male witch , and wicce, pronounced 'witcheh' meaning female witch" (Russell 12). Witches believe in the Goddess and the God. They are believed to be the sole creator of the universe. The Goddess represents Mother Nature or Mother Earth. She is associated with the moon, fertility, the hunt, and Modern Witchcraft. She has many names but is commonly known as Diana. She has many names and many shapes, but over all, the Goddess is anything a witch wants her to be. The God is named "The Horned God". He represents the sun, grain, and is seen in the woodlands. The witches associate The God with Pan, the Greek god of fertility. This is one of the reasons that many Christians believe Witchcraft to be evil. During the time of the persecution of witches, the Christians mistook the worshipping of the fertility god, Pan, as the worshipping of Satan, who the Christians believed to be horned, have a tail, hairy legs, and hooves. The misconceptions of Witchcraft have been inaccurate and misleading. The biggest misunderstanding about Witchcraft is its affiliation with Satanism. Satan is a demonic figure from the Christian belief, not from Witchcraft. In Witchcraft there is no deity that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leda and the Swan is a poem that causes a lot controversy; some people feel that Zeus raped Leda where as others feel that she was seduced. William Butler Yeats officially published this poem in 1928. He was known as one of the world's greatest authors of his time. Yeats was born in Sandymount, Republic of Ireland on June 13,1865 and lived to be 74 years old. He was very proud of his Irish nationality and "maintained his cultural roots, featuring Irish legends and heroes in many of his poems and plays." ("William Butler Yeats"). He moved from Ireland to English for an extended amount of time, but later returned to Ireland after the "Easter Rising, which was an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greek mythology was the Greek religion; it explained life, death and the entirety of the world to them. Some scholars wonder if the Leda and the Swan was a way Yeats used to show how he truly felt about Ireland's downward spiral; how the English were destroying their culture and way of life. Scholars developed this theory based on the social–political issues going on between England and Ireland at the time the poem was written. Leda and the Swan is written as a sonnet. The particular type used by Yeats is referred to as a Petrarchan sonnet; a sonnet is defined as "...a fourteen–lined poem divided into unequal parts." ("Kennedy, X J, and Dana Gioia."). There are multiple types of sonnets, such as Italian sonnet, English sonnet, etc. Yeats was very creative in the sense that he starts out with an English style sonnet and then switches to an Italian style sonnet as the poem develops. The general rhyming scheme that Leda and the Swan has is: ABAB CDCD EFGEFG. In sonnets, there is something known as the "turn" which is when the entire poem shifts from talking about one thing to something else. In Leda and the Swan, this turn is when it goes from talking about Leda and the swan to the Trojan War. The poem would be quite confusing to any reader that doesn't understand that it is about Greek mythos and written in the sonnet style. The wording itself isn't hard to grasp. • 17. William Butler Yeats Essays On June 13 1865 William Butler Yeats was born in Dublin Ireland. From the start Yeats had artistic influences, due to the fact that his father Jack Butler Yeats was a noted Irish painter. He had no formal education until he was eleven, at that time he started at the Godolphin Grammar School in Hammer*censored*h England and later he enrolled in Erasmus Smith High School in Dublin. Throughout his schooling he was considered disappointing student, his studies were inconsistent, he was prone to day dreaming, and poor at sports. In 1884 Yeats found his way to the Metropolitan School for the Arts, here he met a poet by the name of George Russell. Yeats and Russell sheared the same dreams, visions, and the enthusiasm for them. Russell and Yeats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their relationship went through a lot including Gonne's short–lived marrige to John McBride. Most of Yeats's poetry is addressed to her. Yeats associated her with Helen of Troy, whose capriciousness led to the destruction of a civilization. In 1986 Yeats became friends with Lady Isabella Augusta Gregory, a nationalist playwright. Together Yeats and Lady Gregory helped to found the Abbey Theater. As the director and dramatist Yeats helped to turn it into a leading theatrical company of the world and a center of the Irish Renaissance. Near the Turn of the century Yeats fought to abandon his old style of writing, at this time his writing became less mystical and symbolic and it became clearer. Yeats eventually got married in 1917, at the age of 52. His wife was Georgie Hyde–Lees, while on their honeymoon she discovered that she had mediumistic abilities. Through automatic writing she could communicate with a visionary realm. In Yeats's later years he became more involved in politics. From 1922 – 1928 he was a senator for the Irish Free State. In 1923 Yeats received the Nobel Prize for literature, and died on January 18 1939 in Roquebrune France. Yeats was buried in Sligo Ireland. • 19. The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats William Butler Yeats is considered to be one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century. As stated in an online source, "he belonged to the protestant, Anglo–Irish minority. Yeats was not a set person, in his earlier life he lived in London. Also, Yeats had a very interesting love life as a poet. It is very clear that he was an explanatory poet. Ones objective of this paper is to identify and discuss the significance of William Butler Yeats. However, the minority Yeats belonged to belonged to the Protestant, Anglo–Irish minority that had controlled the economic, political, social, and cultural life of Ireland since at least the end of the seventeenth century. Most members of this minority considered themselves English people who merely happened to have been born in Ireland (The World Book Encyclopedia World Book, Inc.) Although he lived in London for fourteen years of his childhood, Yeats maintained his cultural roots. He was very confidential with himself as an artist. This conviction led many to accuse him of elitism, but it also help contributed to his greatness. Eighteen eighty–five was an important year in Yeats' early adult life, marking the first publication, in the Dublin University Review. It was also the year that he met John O'Leary, a famous patriot who had returned to Ireland after totaling twenty years of imprisonment and exile for revolutionary nationalistic activities. • 21. The Theme Of Archetypal Images In Yeats The Wild Swans At... This paper seeks to address those archetypal images embedded in Yeats' "The Wild Swans at Coole" that are designed to provide a context through which Yeats illuminates its entire design of the soul's eternity. By applying archetypal approach, the paper finds that there is a direct correspondence between the poet's quest for his whole vision of personality and his creative flourish in art. Through the chief symbol of the poem, swans, the poet discovers his anti–self in nature and restores the unity of his whole being. This task will be accomplished by bringing to light specific affinities between the theme of the timelessideals of art and the immortal beauty and love of the imperishable swans. • 23. Essay about William Butler Yeats William Butler Yeats. William Butler Yeats was the major figure in the cultural revolution which developed from the strong nationalistic movement at the end of the 19th century. He dominated the writings of a generation. He established forms and themes which came to be considered as the norms for writers of his generation. Yeats was a confessional poet – that is to say, that he wrote his poetry directly from his own experiences. He was an idealist, with a purpose. This was to create Art for his own people – the Irish. But in so doing, he experienced considerable frustration and disillusionment. The tension between this ideal, and the reality is the basis of much of his writing. One central theme of his earlier poetry is the contrast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the final stanza, the poet's mood of anger and bitterness changes to one of acceptance and resignation. He concludes that these petty minded merchants are so locked into their narrow world of self centred survival, that they are incapable of understanding the motivation and self sacrifice of patriotism. Even if the dead heroes could return and confront the merchants with the extent of their sacrifices, they would be unable to understand or appreciate what they had done. Self interest and materialism reign, idealism is dead and buried. He concludes on a weary note of acceptance. But let them be, they're dead and gone, They're with O'Leary in the grave. The Fisherman. This poem is also about Art, and the Irish people's response to it. It is structured around the contrast between the Yeats' dream to write for the Irish people, and the reality. The poem opens on a casual conversational note, Although I can see him still introducing us to the Fisherman, a wise and simple man who is the symbol of the Irish nation he had hoped to write for. Yeats has long since accepted that such a man does not exist, but nonetheless he holds on to him as an inspiration to protect himself against the reality. The reality is depicted in a litany of powerful, clever men, who misuse their abilities for their own personal ends – which are chiefly, the acquisition and maintenance of power. Their goal is public acclaim, cynically acquired through a popularity based on the Catch cries of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Essay on The Truth of Love Revealed in Adam’s Curse The Truth of Love Revealed in Adam's Curse "Adam's Curse" is a poem by William Butler Yeats that was written at a time when his first true love, Maud Gonne, had married Major John MacBride. This may have caused Yeats much pain and Yeats may have felt as cursed as Adam felt when God had punished man from the Garden of Eden. This poem, in fact, symbolizes his pain and loss of love that he once had and is a recollection of his memories during happier times with Maud. In the beginning of the poem "We sat together at one summer's end/ That Beautiful mild woman your close friend/ And you and I, and talked of poetry", Yeats recalls a beautiful time with Maud. Poetry could be related to the language of love, and Yeats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is definitely using a parallel to describe his poetry and his short time with Maud. He believes that falling in love with Maud is so similar to the hard work he puts into the poems he writes. If one were not too look into the poem they would in fact miss this entirely. Yeats then begins the next part of the poem quite literally. He recalls a conversation he has with Kathleen, Maud's sister. She is speaking of beautiful women, and how beauty is not achieved easily. Beauty is not as natural as many people think. This beauty blinds a man, just as Yeats was by Maud. Yeats thought Maud was beautiful and did not see the flaws until now. It is sad, because Yeats now realizes, "there is no fine thing", just as God has cursed men, he has done the same to women. He is sure that there is neither a perfect romance nor a perfect woman. He states that it must be labored as the rest of life. Yeats speaks of the traditions that he followed to court Maud. Men have laid out the laws on how to fall in love, and he followed these lessons. These traditions now seem frivolous to him, since he doesn't care anymore. They did not work for him and he lost his love. He is kind of angry that he was foolish enough to believe they would work. He realizes that love is not an organized process and it, once again, requires ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What the book advocates is for the adept to work with "chaos magick," although the term is never named as such but rather a hodge podge of magical techniques taken from other traditions such as Levi, Crowley's Thelema and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. While we will not plumb the depths of the beliefs, philosophies and rituals associated with chaos magick, it is built essentially on the consciousness/mentalism model of magic where the subconscious mind is the primary generator of one's reality while connected to outside powers in the universe that will align certain event and things into one's life. This model is deeply influenced by the Greek Magical Papyri as well as the Pyramid Texts and the Book of the Dead. In Carroll's magical system, he would advocate one to reach a state of "Gnosis," through the means of yoga, tantra, psychoactive substances, sex, chanting, drumming, dancing, dreaming, etc. The aim of the chaos magician is to concentrate on an abstract idea of one's desire while using one's altered state of consciousness to bring about subconsciousness into operation for one's wishes to manifest. The beginnings and ends of what we choose to call centuries are almost invariably years of little significance. But there is little agreement over when the twentieth century c.e. arrived, and there were several points both before the year 2000 (the collapse of the Soviet Union, the reunification of Germany, the surge of globalization from the mid–1990s) and afterward (9/11, or the global recession of 2008) when one could quite plausibly argue that a new era had begun. A compelling case can be made for viewing the decades of the global scramble for colonies after 1870 as a predictable culmination of the long nineteenth century, which was ushered in by the industrial and political revolutions of the late 1700s. But at the same time, without serious attention to the processes and misguided policies that led to decades of agrarian and industrial depression from the late 1860s to the 1890s, as well as the social tensions and political rivalries that generated and were in turn fed by imperialist expansionism, one cannot begin to comprehend the causes and consequences of the Great War that began in 1914. That conflict determined the contours of the twentieth century in myriad ways. On the one hand, the war set in motion transformative processes that were clearly major departures from those that defined the nineteenth–century world order. A glance at the table of contents is enough to show that the sequence of chapters is erratic and closer inspection reveals that the scope of individual chapters is far wider than appears at first sight. Philosophic doctrines (which, according to the author, are the basis of the talismanic art), theory of magic, astronomical, astrological and physical lore, extensive directions for the practice of the art, and accounts of the peoples by whom it is employed are jumbled together throughout the book, with no discernible guiding principle. If a systematic arrangement is anywhere perceptible, it is in the astrological and astronomical material, though even this is far from selfcontained or methodically ordered. Subjects which belong together are separated (e.g., the geographical sections on pp.171 ff. and 394 ff.), long, discursive definitions, appearing in unexpected places, further break the sequence (e.g., pp.78 and 343)–. and there is a great deal more to make the reader's task more difficult. This manner of writing may well be intentional, whether to make the magical sections appear less suspect by interlarding them with theoretical passages, or to make certain doctrines seem less strange by administering them in small doses, or to demonstrate the equal validity of the magical and philosophical material, or for a combination of all three reasons.
