A Balancing Act
                                    Grade 8 Unit1 Healthy Body

   • Goal – Understand why a balanced life is important
   • Role - Analyze their personal strengths and weaknesses.
   • Audience – Grade 8 students & teacher
   • Situation – Their present life and the commitments they have.
   • Product – Create a collage/ poster
   Directions:
After completing their personal inventories the students have to create a bar chart or a similar symbol which
will show how much time they allocate to activities on a typical school day (sleep, school, exercise, homework,
face book, TV, computer games, reading etc).
They should also include an ideal bar chart or pie chart for comparison. Around the bar charts they will design a
collage using a variety of materials (magazines, drawings, pictures) which depicts their interests and activities
and how much ‘balance’ is in their lives.
The poster must also include a Reflection paragraph- The students will include a reflection paragraph which
clearly explains:
   • the dangers of over –commitment and the importance of time-management
   • the areas in their life which needs improvements and how they can improve these
   • areas that are balanced and an explanation of how they can maintain this
