Gun Control Laws in the United States
In the space separating 1982 and 2012 the U.S. had approximately sixty–two mass shootings. Just
because of this statement gun control should be fortified in order to reduce crime rate. Gun control
laws in the U.S. are too facile. An example of this is that you can walk into a Walmart with money
and an I.D. and walk out with a handgun. There are restrictions to gun ownership but they are not
enforced. Usually the opposing crowd who do not want to bolster gun control use the Second
Amendment as an excuse to not agree with the idea that emphasizing gun control will help the U.S.
in many ways. Gun control in the U.S. should and needs to be ... Show more content on

In December 14, 2012 a devastating shooting out broke in Sandy Hook Elementary School in
Newtown. This event awakened lawmakers, which started working hard in the direction of more
security. In 1971 congress passed the second amendment which stated that "a well regulated militia,
being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall
not be infringed." In the year 2016 this statement is generally, very debatable. One side of the party
altercates that owning guns is a right that everyone should have because it is the same as the same as
the plain right as self defense. The other party says that back when the second amendment was
written the plan was of making a standing army. But now that the U.S. has a strong army and police
force the amendment is obsolete. In 1968 the Gun Control Act was passed. This act let federal, state,
and local law enforcement raise authority in controlling gun control in attempt to reduce crime. The
act also said that it is illegal to market or supply firearms or ammunition to "any individual who the
licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe is less than eighteen years of age". In 1993
another act that was passed was the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act which required the
purchaser of a firearm to complete a background check. Section 922 in the U.S. Code restricts
categories of people from freighting, accepting, or owning firearms or ammunition. In 1994

Comparison Of Gun Control Laws With The United States
Comparatively gun control laws with the United States and other countries: What could be done to
reduce gun violence in the United States, by comparing gun control laws with other countries to see
weather or not gun laws are effective? I feel comparing gun control laws between other countries to
see how their laws are in effect with lowering gun violence, so we could get a better understanding
on what we could do as a country to help reduce gun violence or to see if gun control is even
affective. Gun control was intended to help stop people from killing each other, well that's what we
are always were told. I have gathered multiple facts and data to help compare different countries on
what methods they have chosen to help reduce gun violence. Comparing the laws on banning guns
in other countries such as, Australia's law on how there government thought would help to reduce
gun violence and to gather a better understanding on their methods of action. In 1996 after
Australia's mass shootings, the government proposed and passed the National Firearms Agreement
and Buyback Program. The new gun laws included a ban on many types of semi–automatic, self–
loading rifles and shotguns. Each gun was required to have a separate permit with a 28–day waiting
period, and Australia created a national firearm registration system. Guns had to be sold by a
licensed firearms dealers, and limits were placed on the quantity of ammunition that could be sold.
When purchasing a firearm owners had to

Guns or No Guns
INTRODUCTION:
The role guns play in our society has long been debated on whether or not citizens have the right to
own guns. There are those who believe that guns have no role in the hands of private citizens.
Whereas there are those who believe that guns are the very foundation that protects our rights and
liberties expressed in the Constitution. The debate is over whether or not there should be stricter
laws preventing people to own guns. Though gun control and gun rights advocates share similar
views on background checks and requirements, each have different views on the safety of guns and
the Second Amendment meaning.
Safety: CONTRAST
Both sides of gun control advocates believe that the safety of American citizens is the most
important thing within the argument of the ban of guns, but they both have different views on how it
should be handled.
No Guns:
Some people believe that the United States is safer when citizens are not allowed access to guns.
The amount of organized crime would go down because all of their power is derived from their use
of firearms and that is a significant amount of their profit. Gun control laws protect children and
families; Moms Demand Action, a grassroots group founded in response to the tragedy at Sandy
Hook Elementary School, believes guns in America are creating a public health crisis that is
attacking children, citing statistics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second amendment clearly gives Americans the "right to bear arms" which led to the founding
of our country ("The Constitution of the United States," Amendment 2). Gun advocates believe the
new legislation will separate them from their rights because putting laws on their firearms will be
against Amendment II. The right to bear arms for self–defense is protected in all states as well as the
U.S. Constitution.

Gun Laws And Gun Violence In The United States
Gun violence is a serious matter in the united states. In this essay I will tell you about gun laws and
gun death rates, what death rates numbers are and what they include, what states have the highest
and lowest death rates, what the Brady Act is and what it enforces and does for gun laws, what gun
regulations are revoked and overlooked, how to make it harder to get guns could save lives, how the
National Rifle Association say gun regulations have no effect on crime, and can particular laws help
with reducing gun related deaths.
A " death rate number is the number of deaths per 100,000 people" (Robertson, Lori) "Firearm
deaths include homicide, suicide, accidents, and legal intervention." (gun laws vs. gun deaths)
Suicides make up more than half of the total gun related deaths in the united states. These are the
amount of how much each type of deaths makeup "suicide (63.5), homicide (32.6), accidental (1.7),
legal intervention (1.4), undetermined (0.8)." (Gun laws vs. Gun deaths)
States death rates vary only if they have strict gun laws/ regulations or not. From a study in 2013
"the top ten states with the highest firearm deaths rates were Alaska (19.8), Louisiana (19.3),
Mississippi (17.8), Alabama (17.6), Arkansas (16.8), Wyoming (16.7), Montana (16.7), Oklahoma
(16.5), New–Mexico (15.5), and Tennessee (15.4). (Robertson, Lori) The south is a high risk for gun
violence. The states with lowest are Hawaii (5.3), California (6.4), Minnesota (6.5), Connecticut
(6.6).

The Importance Of Gun Control Laws In The United States
The Constitution was written from May 25th through September 17th, 1787, the day it was signed.
Originally the Constitution was made up of ten amendments, but as of 2011 there are now twenty–
seven, all of which have been ratified and added into the Bill of Rights. Each amendment has had its
fair share of interrogation, and currently the Constitution's validity is being questioned due to the
fact that the writers of the Constitution were all men and slave owners at that. Though today, with
the rising amount of shootings, the Second Amendment has been front and center in the media. The
Second Amendment directly states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a
free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." But the Second
Amendment is up for different interpretations to everybody, regardless of the last four words of the
amendment, "shall not be infringed." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Constitution of the United States of America is a building block of how our country came to be.
If a single amendment is questioned, the entire validity of the Constitution is questioned. The mains
topics I will be discussing in this paper are: how gun control laws are put into place, common sense
as a driving force behind the Second Amendment and how guns are obtained. I will summarize all of
these topics under women being able more efficiently protect themselves by being able to carry a

Stricter Gun Laws In The United States
Over time politicians are always looking for new things to make laws about and regulate. This is no
different with guns. Overall the democratic party tends to be in favor of stricter gun laws, with
wanting more regulations placed on legal ownership of firearms rather than criminals. The
Republican party has tended to be less focused on restricting gun ownership. The first politician that
comes to mind when I think of gun regulations is Kevin de Leon from the California Senate. He is
very left wing and very uninformed when it comes to guns. Just last June, Mr. Leon wanted to pass
11 more restrictions or laws on legal gun owners. "Large ammunition clips: Bans possession of
ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets. Bullet buttons: ... Show more content on

For example number four on the ATF National Firearms Act states that "a weapon made from a rifle
if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less
than 16 inches in length" (ATF) this is what is called an SBR (short barrel rifle) this means that you
take a regular AR–15 and just make it smaller. In a state like Arizona you can go out and buy an AR
pistol, this just means that you can not use any part of your body except your hands to brace the gun.
There is essentially nothing different about the gun just how you shoot it. I think that some of the
laws are good and are there to protect the community but they could be considered more of the
common sense laws. One of the laws would be that if you are on a terrorist watch list you can't
purchase a gun. This also means that if you are on a no fly list you can't purchase a gun. I also feel
that having a federal background check done is a good idea just so that you are able to find people
that maybe shouldn't have guns. On the flip side of that if someone who knows they aren't going to
pass the background check will purchase a gun private

United States can be a better place if this what's to happen latter on in the years to come. Not only

United States and across the world who favor and oppose to this situation ("Gun Control Laws").

There are many great quotes from people in the pros section which also talks about the different
ways to control guns. Another thing is that it also contains comments about the pros of what people
think about gun control. Per to, the pros column it states a fact saying that background checks for a
person is very effective (Mantel). Based upon the American people who are "urbanization and
interdepended" the society wants to see a new call toward "approaching firearms" (Burton).
According to Sonja West, "an associate professor" who went to "The University of Georgia" notes
that "on December 2015":
Protecting the right to keep and bear arms is not the same as forbidding all regulations on that right.
We can protect that right and still require background checks, permits, and training. We can still
regulate when, where, and what kinds of guns are allowed. In some cases, we can regulate who can
obtain guns, imposing restriction on, for instance, felons, the mentally ill, and known terrorist....

reason to assume that there is a constitutions problem ("Gun Control Laws:

The Importance Of Gun Control Laws In The United States
Should there be gun control laws either on state and federal level? According to the National Crime
Victimization Survey, 467,321 people were victims of a crime committed with a firearm in 2011.
Americans nowadays are faced with constant terror in the streets, teen–age gang members are
constantly shooting other gang members for "turf" to sell drugs or show their power to rival gangs,
children are more than likely to be caught in the crossfire of gang related shootings or drive–by
shootings. We can't ignore these crimes and the damage it has done to our society in a whole.
However, the effort by some individuals to eliminate the legal ownership of firearms does not
address the real problem we face, and by doing away with the banning of

Gun Laws in the United States
The purpose of gun laws in the United States is to protect citizens from being victims of gun
violence. Within the last few years, several incidents have occurred where innocent individuals were
killed just out of outrage. President Obama is working to have some type of policy put into place to
reduce the number of crimes caused by guns. Also, this policy would reduce the number of
individuals allowed to buy firearms due to felonies or other illegal matters. Not only would the sale
and possession be regulated with gun laws, the use of firearms would also be regulated. Many
Americans do not agree with this policy; however, its purpose is not to offend or hurt anyone. This
policy is to help save innocent lives and reduce the number of individuals who are able to purchase
or come into contact with those weapons to hurt others. The following information will include an
overview of gun laws and the history behind gun laws along with social, economic, and political
analysis.
Protection for the citizens living in the United States of America is the key, and policies should be
developed and enforced to make sure all Americans are safe. There are several individuals who may
not agree with this policy because they own guns or have felonies that would prohibit them from
obtaining weapons. The purpose for this policy is simply to protect others and reduce the number of
felons allowed to obtain those weapons. Reducing or preventing unnecessary deaths is important

The Effects Of Gun Control Laws On The United States
On December 14th 2012, people all over the world came together to show their support for the
families that were affected by the Newtown Sandy Hooke shooting. 20 innocent children from the
ages of 5 to 7 were brutally shot repeatedly over and over again with a military style weapon.
Classmates and parents will never forget this horrific tragedy which, under no circumstances, should
have happened. However in the United States due to the lack of gun control laws mass shootings
like this one are common. This is very unfortunate not only for Americans but for the global
community. Having family in the United States and cousins in grade school, I find it frightening that
their lives are at risk all because it is easy for people to purchase guns. In Canada we feel very safe
and secure due to the strong gun control laws. It is immensely important that the USA takes a stand
and applies stronger gun control laws to ensure the well being of not only their citizens but those
visiting as well. In the last several years in the United States there have been multiple incidents of
mass shootings. Incidents such as the Aurora batman movie theatre shooting and the columbine
shooting have been quite devastating. Including mass shootings, a total of 10 thousand deaths
occurred from guns last year in the USA compared to just 52 in Canada. Drastically reducing the
numbers by just banning guns seems like a reasonable conclusion. The statement 'Less guns equal
less violence" is used in

The Gun Laws Of The United States Have A Long History On
The gun laws of the United States have a long history on determining the credentials on purchasing
a firearm. The 2nd Amendment is there for a reason for all citizens the right to bear arms. This leads
down to the individual States to regulate who can carry firearms and who cannot. From further
research, the regulations that the individual states have passed are blow backs to Gun Rights
Advocates who support the 2nd Amendment. What the 2nd Amendment does not speak on is those
who have been convicted of a crime and whether they still have the same rights and benefits of those
who have not. In this essay, several cases dealing with legally gun position, individual states

All 50 states allow a conceal carry on the same level but only a few are more restrictive than other. I
think this is the issue at hand and can be an issue if the federal government doesn't fix it. So, to
answer the question, who regulates gun control – federal government or the individual states? The
federal government regulates the gun control but without being specific on the gun regulations, the
individual states can form gun laws that restrict a person from possess or carrying a firearm. It's not
right but, there is no clear definition in the Constitution that states that the individual states cannot
make laws on how to obtain a firearm or a carrying permit.
What is the 2nd Amendment about? Before that is stated, the 2nd Amendment states "A well–
regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and
bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This should be simple to understand but apparently, it is not.
Let's go through this Amendment to before get an understanding of it. "To keep and bear arms" is a
right given to the people to carry or even possess firearms and use them if needed. Just possessing a
gun doesn't mean that you must keep it locked away at home. "Shall not be infringed" is a right that
shall not be taken away once a law or statue is put out for the people. No restrictions or limitations
shall be put on the citizen for this right on owning a firearm or

Should There Be Stricter Gun Laws In The United States?
The United States has had issues with gun control for the longest time. Everything from
assassinations in the 20th century to the Sandy Hook shooting. Guns have been a major topic in
debates and politics in general. Guns have caused many problems in history and they also have
solved and still do solve many problems in the United States today because of things such as
concealed weapons permits that have exponentially reduced crimes like murder and rape in the
United States. The United States government should not enforce stricter gun laws because stricter
gun laws have negative effects on the government and the people of the United States.
If the government makes new laws increasing the restriction on guns the prices on guns will go up
because of the fact that guns are already worth a whole lot more in the street and making them

A gun is only as good or as bad as the person using it. It is not the gun it's the person using it (Lott).
The mental health issue is the problem that needs to be dealt with because unstable people that get
ahold of guns are the ones that cause these mass shootings and killing are the ones that need to be
regulated and have stipulation put on them.
Guns can be bought by just about anybody so there should be restrictions because they are unsafe
and cause more crime. The more guns there are the more crime there is. Children can also get ahold
of guns and bad things can happen so why don't we just take them all way to begin with.
In closing, the United States has had many problems with gun control and trying to implement laws
to take guns out of people's hands and to try to make sure people keep guns because they have the
right, and the government should not enforce stricter gun laws and regulations because doing so
would have negative effects on the government and the people of the United

Laws are made to try and prevent certain things from happening. That being said, making stricter
gun laws will still not prevent these terrible things from happening. People still rob banks, even
though it is against the law. Look at prohibition, for example. The United States banned all alcohol
in the country, but look at what happened: people still found a way to get their hands on the drinks.
In fact, "What everyone ''knows'' about Prohibition is that it was a failure. It did not eliminate
drinking; it did create a black market. That in turn spawned criminal syndicates and random
violence. Corruption and widespread disrespect for law were incubated and, most tellingly,
Prohibition was repealed only 14 years after it was enshrined in the Constitution" (Moore 1). They
had speakeasies, which were bars that had code names and unique passwords. There were
bootleggers, who hid the drinks in their boots or secret compartments in their bags. The same results
will happen if there was ever a law against guns. The point is, you cannot control people. Criminals
are criminals for a reason, and there is no way to change that. You can make stricter laws and checks

The Gun Laws And Banning The United States
Amar Redzepagic 10/3/15
The gun laws and bans in the United States are not helping to make things better or decrease our
crime rate or solve anything instead we need better background checks to make sure we are not
giving guns to the wrong people. ''A study published in the Harvard journal of law and public policy
discovered that the nations with more guns tend to have a lower crime rate'' (Snyder, Michael. N.p.,
12 Aug. 2013. Web. 26 Mar. 2015.). This proves that people tend not to commit a crime if they
know that people around them are armed and ready to fire also they know that if they go to a
country with a lower percentage of gun ownership they are not taking as much risk because there
aren 't that many guns in the area.
Are all these bans and laws really necessary? ''The nine European nations with the lowest rate of gun
ownership have a murder rate that is three times higher than the nine European nations with the
highest rate of gun ownership''(Snyder, Michael. N.p., 12 Aug. 2013. Web. 26 Mar. 2015), I think
guns are actually helping us, overall guns are used eighty times more to prevent crimes rather than
used in them. ''In the United States about 200,000 women protect themselves against sexual assault
using guns every year.''(Snyder, Michael. N.p., 12 Aug. 2013. Web. 26 Mar. 2015). The city of

Gun Laws And The United States Of America
Gun Laws Introduction: On December 14th 2012, a young teenager named Adam Lanza walked into
Sandy Hook Elementary School, shot and killed 20 first–grade children and 6 teachers before taking
his own life. Adam Lanza's mother was found to be dead with 4 gunshot wounds in the head on the
same day. The tragic and devastating incident had once again raised the debate about gun control in
the United States of America. Although many American citizens have been demanding stricter gun
laws ever since (not just the recent Sandy Hook incident but many mass shootings before), the gun
enthusiasts and the National Rifle Association (NRA) as well as the humongous gun companies are
still putting pressure on the government, making it harder for the president to establish new gun
control. President Obama has even stated himself that America was the only countries without
adequate gun–safety law. He also emphasized that it was upsetting for him for not being able to
resolve the issue and that he would not stop until he set up better gun laws. This essay will argue
why it is important to establish better gun laws in USA. It is clear that more guns leads to more
deaths. A research conducted by Harvard Injury Control Research Center shows that where there are
more guns, there is a high risk of homicide across states in USA (assault, robbery, quarrel...).
Moreover, the mortality rate related to firearm accident in 4 states with the most guns are 4 times
higher than 4 states with the fewest guns

by looking at this issue from three perspectives, 1) tighter gun ownership laws have yet to reduce
gun violence anywhere they have been enacted, 2) the right for people to defend themselves is
paramount, and 3) it is a right provided by the second amendment of the constitution, ... Show more

Edward Snowden is a former National Security Agency subcontractor, who had leaked secret
information regarding surveillance activities. Edward leaked proof that the United States

control is the same protection as the firewall. One can arm, and protect themselves against someone
taking away their rights. "Gun control is viewed as a threat to liberty, and through the constitution
guarantees rights, and does not enforce anything. Guns do" (Flamehorse). The Snowden issue
brought about "amoral dishonesty of the federal government" (Flamehorse). This is more proof that
government is taking away it's citizens' rights, and the only way anti–gun control activists can
protect themselves is their guns. Also, in our U.S Constitution it doesn't mention that the only means
for protection is the government, and police. According to the American Police Beat, the average

The police are not always there to protect the citizens all the time, so in those times when they are

be unable to keep you or a loved one safe. In 2013, convicted felons were surveyed and 48%

Pros And Cons Of Stricter Gun Control Laws In The United...
The second amendment to the Constitution upholds the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
Throughout American history there have been many regulations placed on gun ownership, but they
prove to be ineffective as almost anyone can obtain a gun through both legal and illegal methods.
Many gun control legislations meant to regulate gun ownership have been stalled in Congress.
Recent events in the past decade, such as the Las Vegas shooting in October 2017 and the Sandy
Hook shooting in December 2012, seem to provide more than enough reason for stricter gun control
laws in the United States, but there is not much progress being made to establish stricter laws as
both sides of the debate cannot come to a fair compromise. If the United States were to adopt stricter
gun control laws, there would be fewer mass shootings, a lower firearm–related injuries and
accidental death, and less violent crime. For these reasons, the United States should pursue new gun
laws to create a safer environment for everyone. In the past decade alone, there have been countless
mass shootings in the United States alone resulting in a large body count. Whenever a mass shooting
occurs, a debate always follows about how easy it is to obtain firearms, despite background checks
that have been enacted to make it difficult to purchase firearms. Background checks are "designed to
determine if the prospective buyer fits any criteria that prohibit purchase or possession of firearms,
including a prior felony conviction, certain domestic violence misdemeanors, unlawful use of
controlled substances or, inter alia, commitment to a mental institution." (Vernick et al. 98).
Background checks are necessary for public safety, but people manage to maneuver their way
around background checks when it comes to purchasing a firearm. A background check is not
required when purchasing from an unlicensed dealer such as an online store or dealers at a gun
show. People prohibited from purchasing guns go through unlicensed dealers because they are not
required by law to perform background checks for a firearm purchase. For example, four to ten
percent of online shoppers are prohibited by law from possessing firearms, yet they still are looking
around in online

We Need Gun Control Laws In The United States
As America pushes for a better humanity, people are putting their personal rights over the deaths of
others. They believe that guns should remain unopposed throughout the land. These rights can be
very important to those who believe in the right to bear arms and the bill of rights as a whole, but
many innocent people are being injured and even killed due to this lack of action.
As time goes on, the United states needs to unite towards the fact that guns should be prohibited.
We need this because guns lead to unneeded violence and deaths, we have police authority to protect
us, and just because it goes against the Constitution does not mean it is the wrong thing to do. With
all this chaos in the world, guns lead to much unneeded violence and ... Show more content on

This is mainly because we as a community are ok with being separated for our own benefits and
protection. It is quite similar to gun control but the topic of banning guns is much more important.
That is why we need to put an emphasis on it immediately.
All in all, even though banning guns to the public has some negatives it has a tremendous upside.
Society would be much safer because of the decreased crime rates and homicides. Also places like
schools and public slaughters would be stopped. Our world is always fighting for a better society.
An enormous blockade in our way is firearms. We just need to remove them and communities would
be dramatically improved.
In conclusion, guns are an obstacle that we must leap over. This is the lives of good people that are
being lost. What if it was your family dying by the atrocious weapons? Would that change your
mind? Well people around the world are having to go through these trials of not having a husband or
losing a child. That is is why banning guns needs to be put into effect now.
For the sake of family and unity, guns are not worth the time of society. They need to be

The Gun Laws And Banning The United States
2013. Web. 26 Mar. 2015). The city of
Kennesaw,Georgia passed a law requiring every home to have a gun in it and over a course of about
twenty years after the law was passed "their crime rate dropped by more than fifty percent and

Mass Shootings : Stricter Gun Control Laws In The United...
Mass shootings have been at the top of the headlines recently in the United States. These shootings
are causing a major impact on those who reside in America. Something must be done immediately
to bring down the frequency of these shootings so that one can be safe anywhere. There are many
ways to stop this devastation that is bringing America to tears, but the most effective is to have
stricter gun laws in the country. Control laws must be more harsh in order for there to be a decrease
in mass shootings across the country. The right to keep and bear arms is protected by the second
amendment in the United States. There are several gun laws in the United States that are enforced by
the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. If there is a department in charge of
enforcing gun laws then why "were 1043 casualties, including 486 deaths, from the 160 active
shooter incidents between 2000 and 2014?" (Michael, par 5). The answer is simple, the gun laws are
not tight enough. An AR–15 is semi automatic, high ability firearm with a muzzle speed three
thousand feet per second. This rifle will fire as fast as one can pull the trigger. This weapon, with
high ability in the hands of an emotionally unstable individual, is a recipe for disaster that could
cause great harm and death to the innocent. Although Americans have a to bear arms, there need to
be steps in place to insure the safety of the people. For example, a person who is mentally unstable
or at high risk should not be able to possess a firearm. For example
"When states expand firearm prohibitions to high–risk groups and adopt comprehensive measures to
prevent diversion of guns to prohibited persons, fewer guns are diverted to criminals and there is
less violence" (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Par 6). Federal laws in the
United States allow for an eighteen year old to legally purchase a long gun in a licensed area and for
a twenty one year old to purchase a handgun at a licensed area. At the age of eighteen, front lobes
are still developing. The frontal lobe of the brain is the area of the brain that is responsible for
making good decisions. Studies showed that 18– to 20– year–olds are the most likely to commit
homicides. To

Open-Carry: Gun Control Laws In The United States
Since the first manufactured gun, gun control laws have been an ongoing issue in American society.
The United States Constitution supports the right for individuals to own firearms. The second
amendment states "A well–regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right
of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The amendment does not have
regulation on gun use. Both state and federal laws help control the use of guns in America. In
analyzing America's gun laws, several are extremely lax and prove to be detrimental to society.
The open–carry law allows individuals to carry a firearm that is visible. According to Law Center to
prevent Violence "Only five states, California, Florida, Illinois, New York, and South Carolina, as
well as the District of Columbia, prohibit the open carrying of handguns in public places. Thirty–one
states allow the open carrying of a handgun without any license or permit, although in some cases
the gun must be unloaded (smartgunlaws.org). In the case of long guns "six states, California,

The United States Should Stricter Gun Laws
The debate over whether the United States should have stricter gun laws has become a major talking
point in our society. However, the clear choice that will bring the most prosperity and security to our
country is to maintain the current gun control laws as they are the best option for the USA's modern
society. We must not let the rush to judgement after every shooting spree cloud our minds and glaze
over all the benefits and lifestyles that guns let us take for granted. Society must also see what the
outcomes are for the other options suggested and to not make the wrong choice and have to live with
the consequences. We must not let the government enact laws that would place stricter controls on

Plus there are the gun storekeepers whose livelihood might come exclusively from their store.
However, as stricter and stricter gun laws are passed his or her store could be at risk of going under.
Why would the government whose job is to provide the right to life, liberty, and happiness ever take
away someone's job? Lastly some people need their guns for protection. Citizens in Alaska,
Washington, and Montana face many threats from wildlife. When these people run into a bear and
cannot get away what will they do? They will not stand a chance because their gun was taken away
by the government or was confined to only seven rounds and they ran out in the attack. What about
bodyguards, how will they protect their employer if they do not have handguns, but an assassin has
one gotten illegally? When constructing gun laws one must recognize how it will affect the lives of
these people and others. With stricter gun laws American Olympic shooters would not be able to
shoot, gun store owners' businesses would collapse, and people's protection would be at risk. One
main obstacle that gun owners and activists are always facing is stereotypes. By stereotyping people
one confines them into categories, negligent of the fact that they might only agree on a singular
political issue. This description said by our opponents at the beginning of this assignment shows just

The Importance Of Gun Laws In The United States
Many people say that we should ban guns because of violence. Why should all of the U.S be
punished because of individuals that are committing crimes with guns? There are millions of
reasons. First of all, people should be against the thought of putting gun laws in place. The guns that
people want to ban are used to hunt. Hunting supplies food for a lot of families in the United States.
If guns were banned people would have just one less way to supply their families with food. Also
hunting is cheaper than buying meat or food at the grocery store. So without guns, hunting wouldn't
be possible. Second, Guns are used to protect people, their land, family, and life." Guns will be

Arguments Against Gun Control Laws In The United States
Countless opinions have been broadcasted on national news media regarding what society ought to
do about gun control. This controversial topic sparks many heated debates with people of either
position reluctant to compromise. Gun supporters claim that the proposed gun laws infringe on their
constitutional right to bear arms. Conversely, others believe that restricted gun access would cause
gun violence to decrease. Regardless of what side one stands on, with the increase in gun violence, it
is safe to say that something must be done. The Second Amendment to the United States

To be honest, it makes sense... no guns, no gun violence. Not to mention, with regards to United
States history, gun regulations are not a recent motion. Indeed, the first federal gun control law was
the National Firearms Act of 1934. This law required that all sales of firearms to be documented in
the national registry. Following the National Firearms Act of 1934, the Gun Control Act of 1968, the
first major gun control law in the United States, passed. This law "prohibited certain people from
being able to purchase firearms including convicted felons, fugitives, minors, individuals with a
history of mental illness, dishonorable discharged veterans, expatriates and illegal aliens" (Riczo
2001). It also extended licensing conditions to more gun merchants and required a more in depth
record of sales. In brief, the rules to acquire a firearm became stricter and the thought behind it was
that it would decrease crime. Nevertheless, with the increase in gun violence, it is not certain that

Imposing Stricter Gun Control Laws In The United States
Gun control is among the most debated topics this election year. It not only attracts the attention of
politicians but also scholars and common people because of its close relationship with daily life.
Some advocates for gun rights argue that an individual's gun right is inviolable, a civic liberty
secured by the Constitution. By further extending the right to own guns, people will better protect
themselves and create a safer society. However, because the Constitution doesn't give people the
right to possess firearms under all circumstances, and gun control will protect people's natural
rights, the government should impose stricter gun control laws.
The second amendment does not intend to guarantee individuals the right to possess guns for none
military purpose. It responses and adds to section 8 of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the right of owning guns for purposes other than military–use is not specified in the
Constitution, it is subjected to future legislation. Whether imposes strict regulation or not should be
based on the philosophy of the founding generation–protecting "the natural rights" of people.
Statistics well demonstrates that firearms don't effectively serve the purpose of protecting the life of
the victims, unlike what suggested by many gun right advocates. In 2007–11, less than 1% of
victims in all nonfatal violent crimes reported using a firearm to defend themselves during accident.
Therefore, restrictions on firearms will not result in a significant difference in defending the life of
crime victims, but they will decrease the occurrence of violent crimes, or at least minimize lost. A
thorough background check could prevent the happening of Virginia Tech mass shooting, which a
student with mental illness easily went through background check and obtained two guns. Banning

No Guns More Crime A growing number of states in the US have passed stricter gun policies for
citizens to own bare arms. The almighty goal is to have all the guns taken away from gun owners
and future gun owners. The policies have adjusted citizens to go through a process just to obtain a

enforcement. This process contradicts the 2nd Amendment from the U.S Constitution. Every
American has the constitutional privilege to own guns and stricter gun policies will not effectively

If one wanted to purchase a handgun in Connecticut they would have to wait a long time; first there
would be an eight–hour safety course, then they would have to pick up an application, which
includes a background check and fingerprinting, at the police department (Rosen 1). Review of this
application may take up to eight weeks (Rosen 1). Once one was cleared, the state would give them
a temporary permit, which would be traded in at state police headquarters for a permanent one. Only
then could the person go back to the gun shop to buy a gun (Rosen 1). However, if one were to go to
Missouri, buying a handgun would be a lot quicker. Some buyers can walk into a store and instantly
purchase a gun if they pass the FBI's instant background check (Rosen 1). The gun laws are so
different in each state, a discrepancy can be seen in the safety of each state too. Connecticut has
stricter gun laws so they have fewer gun–caused deaths, while Missouri has more gun mishaps since
they have looser gun control laws. For example, there are fifteen percent fewer gun suicides in

People often look at the Second Amendment created by the Founding Fathers incorrectly, they made
the amendment so that the armed population could battle against the United States Government.
Many Americans nowadays look at the amendment and believe it guarantees an individual right to

of military duties and collective security purposes. Did you know that guns kill an average of 36
people everyday in the United States alone? The United States is the country with the highest rate of

However, having minimal gun laws proved to be the best plan of action. While having an
uncontrollable amount of guns could be detrimental to a country's survival, it is also apparent that
when citizens have guns or other forms of protection during a mass shooting, there are less
casualties. This gives a compromise between strict gun control laws and no gun control laws. Since
microstamping and background checks limit the majority of gun related incidents, it lets the citizens

The Importance Of Gun Control Laws In The United States
You are walking down the street at night and you feel a gun on your back. The person is asking for
your money, but you do not have any. In addition, your gun, which you use for protection, has been
taken away due to the new gun laws and you are left defenseless. This situation is not uncommon
and while many people believe that guns are harmful, they also help save a lot of lives. Guns should
not be banned in the United States since the Constitution states that citizens have the right to bear
arms, citizens use guns in self–defense, and banning guns will not prevent gun violence. The right to
bear arms is a Constitutional right as stated in the second amendment, which was written in 1791.
The second amendment gives citizens the ability to own guns in order to protect themselves from
danger. ProCon.org reports that gun control laws infringe upon the right to self–defense and deny
people a sense of safety. Guns give people a sense of security, which is one of the reasons why the

If the United States were to adopt stricter
gun control laws, there would be fewer mass shootings, a lower murder rate, and less violent crime.
The United States should pursue new gun laws to create a safer environment for everyone. In the
past decade alone, there have been countless mass shootings in the United States alone resulting in a
large body count. Whenever a mass shooting occurs, a debate always follows about how easy it is to
obtain firearms, despite background checks that have been enacted to make it difficult to purchase
firearms. Background checks are "designed to determine if the prospective buyer fits any criteria
that prohibit purchase or possession of firearms, including a prior felony conviction, certain
domestic violence misdemeanors, unlawful use of controlled substances or, inter alia, commitment
to a mental institution." (Vernick et al. 98). Background checks are necessary for public safety, but
people manage to maneuver their way around background checks when it comes to purchasing a
firearm. A background check is not required when purchasing from an unlicensed dealer such as an
online store or dealers at a gun show. People prohibited from purchasing guns go through unlicensed
dealers because they are not required by law to perform background checks for a firearm purchase.
For example, four to ten percent of online shoppers are prohibited by law from possessing firearms,
yet they still are looking around in online gun stores (98). Legislation should be passed to

Gun Control: Federal Laws In The United States
Gun Control
By: Gracie Robinson 11/19/17 for Ms. Allawos
Gun control is different for different countries. Some states in the US have decided to change things
for themselves since they aren't many federal laws for gun control. Gun control is something that is
different depending on where you live in the US. For example, in some states, there are strict gun
laws where as in others there are barely any and it is very easy to get your hands on a gun. Many
people get angry when they hear the words "gun control" because they do things like hunt and need
guns to do so. Many others just like having guns for self–defense and feel safer with a gun on them.
This is currently a major situation in the US because many others are afraid that another major
shooting will happen like the one in LA. Many people lost family members and it is very sad to get
a phone call saying that someone close to you is dead. This is also not the first major shooting in the
history of the US. Many other shootings have happened and resulted in many dead and injured
people. Over 13,000 people have died because of gun violence and over 26,000 people have been
injured because of gun violence. There is also a suicide every 13 minutes. Firearms account for

The question of gun control laws in the United States is a particularly divisive issue. Through the

Connecticut, arguments for and against stricter gun regulations have ignited a controversial debate
that seems to have no easy resolution. With the increased in the number of deadly mass shootings,
there has also been a rise in gun production and sales. Scott Horsley (2016) stated that the year after
the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, 2013, "U.S. gun–makers produced nearly 11
million guns", which is two times as many produced three years earlier (para. 4). Furthermore, as
guns become more abundant in the population, the public has increasingly strong opinions regarding
them. However, the first step to try to come up for a practical and effective solution is to first define
what exactly is meant by "gun control". According to Richard Pérez–Peña (2015), gun control is

Gun Control Laws Throughout The United States

  • 1. Gun Control Laws Throughout The United States Luis Alicea Mr. Wiglesworth ELA 8 Block 3 March 4, 2015 Gun Control Laws in the United States In the space separating 1982 and 2012 the U.S. had approximately sixty–two mass shootings. Just because of this statement gun control should be fortified in order to reduce crime rate. Gun control laws in the U.S. are too facile. An example of this is that you can walk into a Walmart with money and an I.D. and walk out with a handgun. There are restrictions to gun ownership but they are not enforced. Usually the opposing crowd who do not want to bolster gun control use the Second Amendment as an excuse to not agree with the idea that emphasizing gun control will help the U.S. in many ways. Gun control in the U.S. should and needs to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In December 14, 2012 a devastating shooting out broke in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. This event awakened lawmakers, which started working hard in the direction of more security. In 1971 congress passed the second amendment which stated that "a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." In the year 2016 this statement is generally, very debatable. One side of the party altercates that owning guns is a right that everyone should have because it is the same as the same as the plain right as self defense. The other party says that back when the second amendment was written the plan was of making a standing army. But now that the U.S. has a strong army and police force the amendment is obsolete. In 1968 the Gun Control Act was passed. This act let federal, state, and local law enforcement raise authority in controlling gun control in attempt to reduce crime. The act also said that it is illegal to market or supply firearms or ammunition to "any individual who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe is less than eighteen years of age". In 1993 another act that was passed was the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act which required the purchaser of a firearm to complete a background check. Section 922 in the U.S. Code restricts categories of people from freighting, accepting, or owning firearms or ammunition. In 1994 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Comparison Of Gun Control Laws With The United States Comparatively gun control laws with the United States and other countries: What could be done to reduce gun violence in the United States, by comparing gun control laws with other countries to see weather or not gun laws are effective? I feel comparing gun control laws between other countries to see how their laws are in effect with lowering gun violence, so we could get a better understanding on what we could do as a country to help reduce gun violence or to see if gun control is even affective. Gun control was intended to help stop people from killing each other, well that's what we are always were told. I have gathered multiple facts and data to help compare different countries on what methods they have chosen to help reduce gun violence. Comparing the laws on banning guns in other countries such as, Australia's law on how there government thought would help to reduce gun violence and to gather a better understanding on their methods of action. In 1996 after Australia's mass shootings, the government proposed and passed the National Firearms Agreement and Buyback Program. The new gun laws included a ban on many types of semi–automatic, self– loading rifles and shotguns. Each gun was required to have a separate permit with a 28–day waiting period, and Australia created a national firearm registration system. Guns had to be sold by a licensed firearms dealers, and limits were placed on the quantity of ammunition that could be sold. When purchasing a firearm owners had to ... • 5. Should There Be Stricter Gun Control Laws In The United... Guns or No Guns INTRODUCTION: The role guns play in our society has long been debated on whether or not citizens have the right to own guns. There are those who believe that guns have no role in the hands of private citizens. Whereas there are those who believe that guns are the very foundation that protects our rights and liberties expressed in the Constitution. The debate is over whether or not there should be stricter laws preventing people to own guns. Though gun control and gun rights advocates share similar views on background checks and requirements, each have different views on the safety of guns and the Second Amendment meaning. Safety: CONTRAST Both sides of gun control advocates believe that the safety of American citizens is the most important thing within the argument of the ban of guns, but they both have different views on how it should be handled. No Guns: Some people believe that the United States is safer when citizens are not allowed access to guns. The amount of organized crime would go down because all of their power is derived from their use of firearms and that is a significant amount of their profit. Gun control laws protect children and families; Moms Demand Action, a grassroots group founded in response to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, believes guns in America are creating a public health crisis that is attacking children, citing statistics ... The second amendment clearly gives Americans the "right to bear arms" which led to the founding of our country ("The Constitution of the United States," Amendment 2). • 7. Gun Laws And Gun Violence In The United States Gun violence is a serious matter in the united states. In this essay I will tell you about gun laws and gun death rates, what death rates numbers are and what they include, what states have the highest and lowest death rates, what the Brady Act is and what it enforces and does for gun laws, what gun regulations are revoked and overlooked, how to make it harder to get guns could save lives, how the National Rifle Association say gun regulations have no effect on crime, and can particular laws help with reducing gun related deaths. A " death rate number is the number of deaths per 100,000 people" (Robertson, Lori) "Firearm deaths include homicide, suicide, accidents, and legal intervention." (gun laws vs. gun deaths) Suicides make up more than half of the total gun related deaths in the united states. These are the amount of how much each type of deaths makeup "suicide (63.5), homicide (32.6), accidental (1.7), legal intervention (1.4), undetermined (0.8)." (Gun laws vs. Gun deaths) States death rates vary only if they have strict gun laws/ regulations or not. From a study in 2013 "the top ten states with the highest firearm deaths rates were Alaska (19.8), Louisiana (19.3), Mississippi (17.8), Alabama (17.6), Arkansas (16.8), Wyoming (16.7), Montana (16.7), Oklahoma (16.5), New–Mexico (15.5), and Tennessee (15.4). (Robertson, Lori) The south is a high risk for gun violence. The states with lowest are Hawaii (5.3), California (6.4), Minnesota (6.5), Connecticut (6.6). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Importance Of Gun Control Laws In The United States The Constitution was written from May 25th through September 17th, 1787, the day it was signed. Originally the Constitution was made up of ten amendments, but as of 2011 there are now twenty– seven, all of which have been ratified and added into the Bill of Rights. Each amendment has had its fair share of interrogation, and currently the Constitution's validity is being questioned due to the fact that the writers of the Constitution were all men and slave owners at that. Though today, with the rising amount of shootings, the Second Amendment has been front and center in the media. The Second Amendment directly states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." But the Second Amendment is up for different interpretations to everybody, regardless of the last four words of the amendment, "shall not be infringed." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Stricter Gun Laws In The United States Over time politicians are always looking for new things to make laws about and regulate. This is no different with guns. Overall the democratic party tends to be in favor of stricter gun laws, with wanting more regulations placed on legal ownership of firearms rather than criminals. The Republican party has tended to be less focused on restricting gun ownership. The first politician that comes to mind when I think of gun regulations is Kevin de Leon from the California Senate. He is very left wing and very uninformed when it comes to guns. Just last June, Mr. Leon wanted to pass 11 more restrictions or laws on legal gun owners. "Large ammunition clips: Bans possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets. Bullet buttons: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example number four on the ATF National Firearms Act states that "a weapon made from a rifle if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length" (ATF) this is what is called an SBR (short barrel rifle) this means that you take a regular AR–15 and just make it smaller. In a state like Arizona you can go out and buy an AR pistol, this just means that you can not use any part of your body except your hands to brace the gun. There is essentially nothing different about the gun just how you shoot it. I think that some of the laws are good and are there to protect the community but they could be considered more of the common sense laws. One of the laws would be that if you are on a terrorist watch list you can't purchase a gun. This also means that if you are on a no fly list you can't purchase a gun. I also feel that having a federal background check done is a good idea just so that you are able to find people that maybe shouldn't have guns. On the flip side of that if someone who knows they aren't going to pass the background check will purchase a gun private ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States can be a better place if this what's to happen latter on in the years to come. Not only stronger laws but better background checks "for the Federal Bureau" people. Based upon the American people who are "urbanization and interdepended" the society wants to see a new call toward "approaching firearms" (Burton). According to Sonja West, "an associate professor" who went to "The University of Georgia" notes that "on December 2015": Protecting the right to keep and bear arms is not the same as forbidding all regulations on that right. We can protect that right and still require background checks, permits, and training. We can still regulate when, where, and what kinds of guns are allowed. Americans nowadays are faced with constant terror in the streets, teen–age gang members are constantly shooting other gang members for "turf" to sell drugs or show their power to rival gangs, children are more than likely to be caught in the crossfire of gang related shootings or drive–by shootings. • 19. Gun Laws in the United States The purpose of gun laws in the United States is to protect citizens from being victims of gun violence. Within the last few years, several incidents have occurred where innocent individuals were killed just out of outrage. President Obama is working to have some type of policy put into place to reduce the number of crimes caused by guns. Also, this policy would reduce the number of individuals allowed to buy firearms due to felonies or other illegal matters. Not only would the sale and possession be regulated with gun laws, the use of firearms would also be regulated. Many Americans do not agree with this policy; however, its purpose is not to offend or hurt anyone. This policy is to help save innocent lives and reduce the number of individuals who are able to purchase or come into contact with those weapons to hurt others. The following information will include an overview of gun laws and the history behind gun laws along with social, economic, and political analysis. Protection for the citizens living in the United States of America is the key, and policies should be developed and enforced to make sure all Americans are safe. There are several individuals who may not agree with this policy because they own guns or have felonies that would prohibit them from obtaining weapons. The purpose for this policy is simply to protect others and reduce the number of felons allowed to obtain those weapons. Reducing or preventing unnecessary deaths is important ... • 21. The Effects Of Gun Control Laws On The United States On December 14th 2012, people all over the world came together to show their support for the families that were affected by the Newtown Sandy Hooke shooting. 20 innocent children from the ages of 5 to 7 were brutally shot repeatedly over and over again with a military style weapon. Classmates and parents will never forget this horrific tragedy which, under no circumstances, should have happened. However in the United States due to the lack of gun control laws mass shootings like this one are common. This is very unfortunate not only for Americans but for the global community. Having family in the United States and cousins in grade school, I find it frightening that their lives are at risk all because it is easy for people to purchase guns. In Canada we feel very safe and secure due to the strong gun control laws. It is immensely important that the USA takes a stand and applies stronger gun control laws to ensure the well being of not only their citizens but those visiting as well. In the last several years in the United States there have been multiple incidents of mass shootings. Incidents such as the Aurora batman movie theatre shooting and the columbine shooting have been quite devastating. Including mass shootings, a total of 10 thousand deaths occurred from guns last year in the USA compared to just 52 in Canada. Drastically reducing the numbers by just banning guns seems like a reasonable conclusion. The statement 'Less guns equal less violence" is used in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 2nd Amendment is there for a reason for all citizens the right to bear arms. This leads down to the individual States to regulate who can carry firearms and who cannot. From further research, the regulations that the individual states have passed are blow backs to Gun Rights Advocates who support the 2nd Amendment. What the 2nd Amendment does not speak on is those who have been convicted of a crime and whether they still have the same rights and benefits of those who have not. All 50 states allow a conceal carry on the same level but only a few are more restrictive than other. I think this is the issue at hand and can be an issue if the federal government doesn't fix it. So, to answer the question, who regulates gun control – federal government or the individual states? The federal government regulates the gun control but without being specific on the gun regulations, the individual states can form gun laws that restrict a person from possess or carrying a firearm. It's not right but, there is no clear definition in the Constitution that states that the individual states cannot make laws on how to obtain a firearm or a carrying permit. What is the 2nd Amendment about? Before that is stated, the 2nd Amendment states "A well– regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This should be simple to understand but apparently, it is not. Let's go through this Amendment to before get an understanding of it. "To keep and bear arms" is a right given to the people to carry or even possess firearms and use them if needed. Just possessing a gun doesn't mean that you must keep it locked away at home. "Shall not be infringed" is a right that shall not be taken away once a law or statue is put out for the people. • 25. Should There Be Stricter Gun Laws In The United States? The United States has had issues with gun control for the longest time. Everything from assassinations in the 20th century to the Sandy Hook shooting. Guns have been a major topic in debates and politics in general. Guns have caused many problems in history and they also have solved and still do solve many problems in the United States today because of things such as concealed weapons permits that have exponentially reduced crimes like murder and rape in the United States. The United States government should not enforce stricter gun laws because stricter gun laws have negative effects on the government and the people of the United States. If the government makes new laws increasing the restriction on guns the prices on guns will go up because of the fact that guns are already worth a whole lot more in the street and making them illegal will ... Guns can be bought by just about anybody so there should be restrictions because they are unsafe and cause more crime. The more guns there are the more crime there is. Children can also get ahold of guns and bad things can happen so why don't we just take them all way to begin with. In closing, the United States has had many problems with gun control and trying to implement laws to take guns out of people's hands and to try to make sure people keep guns because they have the right, and the government should not enforce stricter gun laws and regulations because doing so would have negative effects on the government and the people of the United ... • 27. Argumentative Essay: Gun Control Laws In The United States Newtown, Connecticut. The kindergarteners filed into their desks just after coming inside on a cool, crisp, fall morning. Adam Lanza got into his car, fresh after killing his own mother. Over 1,000 rounds of ammo filled his pockets. The carnage was about to begin. He pulled into Sandy Hook Elementary School and got out of his car. Walking through the front doors with ease, he entered a classroom. Suddenly, gunfire is heard. Blood filled the floors of the classroom. Screaming, and the aroma of gunpowder, filled the air. In America, we have gun control laws that are strict enough. Not anyone can get guns as it is. Laws are made to try and prevent certain things from happening. That being said, making stricter gun laws will still not prevent these terrible things from happening. People still rob banks, even though it is against the law. Look at prohibition, for example. The United States banned all alcohol in the country, but look at what happened: people still found a way to get their hands on the drinks. In fact, "What everyone ''knows'' about Prohibition is that it was a failure. It did not eliminate drinking; it did create a black market. That in turn spawned criminal syndicates and random violence. Corruption and widespread disrespect for law were incubated and, most tellingly, Prohibition was repealed only 14 years after it was enshrined in the Constitution" (Moore 1). They had speakeasies, which were bars that had code names and unique passwords. There were bootleggers, who hid the drinks in their boots or secret compartments in their bags. This proves that people tend not to commit a crime if they know that people around them are armed and ready to fire also they know that if they go to a country with a lower percentage of gun ownership they are not taking as much risk because there aren 't that many guns in the area. • 31. Gun Laws And The United States Of America Gun Laws Introduction: On December 14th 2012, a young teenager named Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School, shot and killed 20 first–grade children and 6 teachers before taking his own life. Adam Lanza's mother was found to be dead with 4 gunshot wounds in the head on the same day. The tragic and devastating incident had once again raised the debate about gun control in the United States of America. Although many American citizens have been demanding stricter gun laws ever since (not just the recent Sandy Hook incident but many mass shootings before), the gun enthusiasts and the National Rifle Association (NRA) as well as the humongous gun companies are still putting pressure on the government, making it harder for the president to establish new gun control. President Obama has even stated himself that America was the only countries without adequate gun–safety law. He also emphasized that it was upsetting for him for not being able to resolve the issue and that he would not stop until he set up better gun laws. This essay will argue why it is important to establish better gun laws in USA. It is clear that more guns leads to more deaths. A research conducted by Harvard Injury Control Research Center shows that where there are more guns, there is a high risk of homicide across states in USA (assault, robbery, quarrel...). Moreover, the mortality rate related to firearm accident in 4 states with the most guns are 4 times higher than 4 states with the fewest guns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(USA Gun Violence Statistics) According to the IANSA (International Action Network on Small Arms of the United Nations), in the United States there are more than ten thousand gun homicides annually (IANSA). These statistics should shock every American. I believe the argument may be summed up by looking at this issue from three perspectives, 1) tighter gun ownership laws have yet to reduce gun violence anywhere they have been enacted, 2) the right for people to defend themselves is paramount, and 3) it is a right provided by the second amendment of the constitution, ... • 41. Pros And Cons Of Stricter Gun Control Laws In The United... The second amendment to the Constitution upholds the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Throughout American history there have been many regulations placed on gun ownership, but they prove to be ineffective as almost anyone can obtain a gun through both legal and illegal methods. Many gun control legislations meant to regulate gun ownership have been stalled in Congress. Recent events in the past decade, such as the Las Vegas shooting in October 2017 and the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012, seem to provide more than enough reason for stricter gun control laws in the United States, but there is not much progress being made to establish stricter laws as both sides of the debate cannot come to a fair compromise. If the United States were to adopt stricter gun control laws, there would be fewer mass shootings, a lower firearm–related injuries and accidental death, and less violent crime. For these reasons, the United States should pursue new gun laws to create a safer environment for everyone. In the past decade alone, there have been countless mass shootings in the United States alone resulting in a large body count. Whenever a mass shooting occurs, a debate always follows about how easy it is to obtain firearms, despite background checks that have been enacted to make it difficult to purchase firearms. Background checks are "designed to determine if the prospective buyer fits any criteria that prohibit purchase or possession of firearms, including a prior felony conviction, certain domestic violence misdemeanors, unlawful use of controlled substances or, inter alia, commitment to a mental institution." (Vernick et al. 98). Background checks are necessary for public safety, but people manage to maneuver their way around background checks when it comes to purchasing a firearm. A background check is not required when purchasing from an unlicensed dealer such as an online store or dealers at a gun show. People prohibited from purchasing guns go through unlicensed dealers because they are not required by law to perform background checks for a firearm purchase. For example, four to ten percent of online shoppers are prohibited by law from possessing firearms, yet they still are looking around in online ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Mass Shootings : Stricter Gun Control Laws In The United... Mass shootings have been at the top of the headlines recently in the United States. These shootings are causing a major impact on those who reside in America. Something must be done immediately to bring down the frequency of these shootings so that one can be safe anywhere. There are many ways to stop this devastation that is bringing America to tears, but the most effective is to have stricter gun laws in the country. Control laws must be more harsh in order for there to be a decrease in mass shootings across the country. The right to keep and bear arms is protected by the second amendment in the United States. There are several gun laws in the United States that are enforced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. If there is a department in charge of enforcing gun laws then why "were 1043 casualties, including 486 deaths, from the 160 active shooter incidents between 2000 and 2014?" (Michael, par 5). The answer is simple, the gun laws are not tight enough. An AR–15 is semi automatic, high ability firearm with a muzzle speed three thousand feet per second. This rifle will fire as fast as one can pull the trigger. This weapon, with high ability in the hands of an emotionally unstable individual, is a recipe for disaster that could cause great harm and death to the innocent. Although Americans have a to bear arms, there need to be steps in place to insure the safety of the people. For example, a person who is mentally unstable or at high risk should not be able to possess a firearm. For example "When states expand firearm prohibitions to high–risk groups and adopt comprehensive measures to prevent diversion of guns to prohibited persons, fewer guns are diverted to criminals and there is less violence" (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Par 6). Federal laws in the United States allow for an eighteen year old to legally purchase a long gun in a licensed area and for a twenty one year old to purchase a handgun at a licensed area. • 59. Imposing Stricter Gun Control Laws In The United States Gun control is among the most debated topics this election year. It not only attracts the attention of politicians but also scholars and common people because of its close relationship with daily life. Some advocates for gun rights argue that an individual's gun right is inviolable, a civic liberty secured by the Constitution. By further extending the right to own guns, people will better protect themselves and create a safer society. However, because the Constitution doesn't give people the right to possess firearms under all circumstances, and gun control will protect people's natural rights, the government should impose stricter gun control laws. The second amendment does not intend to guarantee individuals the right to possess guns for none military purpose. It responses and adds to section 8 of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the right of owning guns for purposes other than military–use is not specified in the Constitution, it is subjected to future legislation. Whether imposes strict regulation or not should be based on the philosophy of the founding generation–protecting "the natural rights" of people. Statistics well demonstrates that firearms don't effectively serve the purpose of protecting the life of the victims, unlike what suggested by many gun right advocates. In 2007–11, less than 1% of victims in all nonfatal violent crimes reported using a firearm to defend themselves during accident. Therefore, restrictions on firearms will not result in a significant difference in defending the life of crime victims, but they will decrease the occurrence of violent crimes, or at least minimize lost. A thorough background check could prevent the happening of Virginia Tech mass shooting, which a student with mental illness easily went through background check and obtained two guns. Banning military style assaulting weapons will prevent tragedies like the death of forty–nine people with only one killer in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. No Guns More Crime : Gun Control Laws And Regulations... No Guns More Crime A growing number of states in the US have passed stricter gun policies for citizens to own bare arms. The almighty goal is to have all the guns taken away from gun owners and future gun owners. The policies have adjusted citizens to go through a process just to obtain a gun license or permit. For example, rigorous background checks and sponsorship from law enforcement. This process contradicts the 2nd Amendment from the U.S Constitution. Every American has the constitutional privilege to own guns and stricter gun policies will not effectively reduce crime. Enforcing gun control laws and regulations across the United States will not devaluate crime rates. Bruce Wills: An American actor quoted, "If you take guns ... The armed weapons used in the theater shooting can be taken away only if gun control is passed in every single state. According to the FBI records, "there is no correlation to stricter gun control and crime rates in the United States." (WashingtonTimes) For example, the state of New York is ranked 4th in country with the strictest gun control policies as well listed in the top 10 in firearm homicide rates in the United States. • 63. Importance Of Gun Laws In The United States One of the biggest controversies in the United States today is gun control. Along with guns come gun laws and their purposes. Gun laws are important because they keep society functioning and strive to maintain peace. A problem in the United States today is about the Second Amendment and what it represents. Peoples' biggest concern is allowing guns on school campuses. There are different laws for each state where that is a concern. Most laws that have been passed in those states are about background checks for the mentally ill. A history of gun laws shows how we can improve on gun control. Gun laws have changed dramatically over the years because of shootings and using guns in a violent way. However, at a national level, policy has remained unchanged for the past twenty years. After all of the mass shootings over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These laws have targeted the mentally ill. The first bill to become law was the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 (Safe Act), right after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The intention of the bill was to "enhance public safety by preventing criminals and the dangerously mentally ill from purchasing a gun through the use of universal background checks." (Wolf and Rosen 858) Illinois just passed the Firearm Concealed Carry Act in July 2013. This piece of legislation includes background checks for people with mental health problems. It also, "grants the police the authority to deny an application for a FOID card or revoke and seize a FOID card." • 65. The United States ' Current Laws For Gun Control Gun control is the set of laws or policies that regulate the sale, manufacture, transfer, possession, modification, and/or use of firearms by civilians. Are the United States' current laws for gun control effective? Is the U.S. in need of reform or enactment of new laws? Alarming statistics indicate that the status quo is ineffective. Gun control laws in the US should be stricter and uniform since there are an unusually high quantity of gun–related incidents in the U.S.. Additionally, countries that have more rigorous gun control are shown to have drastically lower gun–related death rates. Through stricter gun control, we may protect the country and its future generations from people who should not be able to obtain firearms. Statistics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one wanted to purchase a handgun in Connecticut they would have to wait a long time; first there would be an eight–hour safety course, then they would have to pick up an application, which includes a background check and fingerprinting, at the police department (Rosen 1). Review of this application may take up to eight weeks (Rosen 1). Once one was cleared, the state would give them a temporary permit, which would be traded in at state police headquarters for a permanent one. Only then could the person go back to the gun shop to buy a gun (Rosen 1). However, if one were to go to Missouri, buying a handgun would be a lot quicker. Some buyers can walk into a store and instantly purchase a gun if they pass the FBI's instant background check (Rosen 1). The gun laws are so different in each state, a discrepancy can be seen in the safety of each state too. Connecticut has stricter gun laws so they have fewer gun–caused deaths, while Missouri has more gun mishaps since they have looser gun control laws. For example, there are fifteen percent fewer gun suicides in Connecticut compared to sixteen percent more in Missouri (Rosen 1). However, limits placed on government authorities also determine the safety from guns in America. In the article, "Misfires of the Gun Control Debate" , it states that, "One hitch in our system is that police officers who find a gun at a crime scene can't always look up ... • 67. The Importance Of Gun Control Laws In The United States People often look at the Second Amendment created by the Founding Fathers incorrectly, they made the amendment so that the armed population could battle against the United States Government. Many Americans nowadays look at the amendment and believe it guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but what the amendment was really made for was to protect gun ownership for members of military duties and collective security purposes. Did you know that guns kill an average of 36 people everyday in the United States alone? The United States is the country with the highest rate of civilian gun ownership in the world. Guns should be banned for every single human being on this earth that is not part of military duties and collective security. Along with Norway, Finland, Germany, and France have high ownership rates but have low crime rates. In contrast with these countries, Luxembourg has a complete ban on handguns but has nine times the crime rate. The Harvard study concluded that crime rates are directly related to "social, economic, and cultural factors." Furthermore, they came to the conclusion that guns don't kill people, people kill people. However, having minimal gun laws proved to be the best plan of action. While having an uncontrollable amount of guns could be detrimental to a country's survival, it is also apparent that when citizens have guns or other forms of protection during a mass shooting, there are less casualties. This gives a compromise between strict gun control laws and no gun control laws. Since microstamping and background checks limit the majority of gun related incidents, it lets the citizens keep guns but with helping limit gun related homicides. By giving this compromise, citizens on both sides of the argument would be contempt. More research would need to be done to come up with a complete solution to gun control. Many countries are starting to implement gun control into their societies and some are not putting any gun control in place. As these countries develop it becomes normal to either not have guns or to have guns at all times. Murder and crime rates will be easy to compare at this time especially if areas record their crime the same way. This issue needs to be discussed with the main issue of saving lives instead of just taking pride in a political party. Many people on both sides of the issue just listen to what their side has to say and leaves out other information presented by the other side. This results in a biased mindset and people become less knowledgeable on the issue. With further research and study, mass shootings will become preventable and crime rates will ... • 71. The Importance Of Gun Control Laws In The United States You are walking down the street at night and you feel a gun on your back. The person is asking for your money, but you do not have any. In addition, your gun, which you use for protection, has been taken away due to the new gun laws and you are left defenseless. This situation is not uncommon and while many people believe that guns are harmful, they also help save a lot of lives. Guns should not be banned in the United States since the Constitution states that citizens have the right to bear arms, citizens use guns in self–defense, and banning guns will not prevent gun violence. The right to bear arms is a Constitutional right as stated in the second amendment, which was written in 1791. The second amendment gives citizens the ability to own guns in order to protect themselves from danger. ProCon.org reports that gun control laws infringe upon the right to self–defense and deny people a sense of safety. Guns give people a sense of security, which is one of the reasons why the second amendment was written, and when you ban guns, you take away a person's right to defend themselves. If guns are illegal, criminals will still own them, which puts unarmed victims in danger. Banning guns will leave citizens unprotected against criminals, which goes against the ... • 73. If the United States were to adopt stricter gun control laws, there would be fewer mass shootings, a lower murder rate, and less violent crime. The United States should pursue new gun laws to create a safer environment for everyone. For example, four to ten percent of online shoppers are prohibited by law from possessing firearms, yet they still are looking around in online gun stores (98). Legislation should be passed to ... • 75. Gun Control: Federal Laws In The United States Gun Control By: Gracie Robinson 11/19/17 for Ms. Allawos Gun control is different for different countries. Some states in the US have decided to change things for themselves since they aren't many federal laws for gun control. Gun control is something that is different depending on where you live in the US. For example, in some states, there are strict gun laws where as in others there are barely any and it is very easy to get your hands on a gun. Many people get angry when they hear the words "gun control" because they do things like hunt and need guns to do so. Many others just like having guns for self–defense and feel safer with a gun on them. This is currently a major situation in the US because many others are afraid that another major shooting will happen like the one in LA. Many people lost family members and it is very sad to get a phone call saying that someone close to you is dead. This is also not the first major shooting in the history of the US. Many other shootings have happened and resulted in many dead and injured people. Over 13,000 people have died because of gun violence and over 26,000 people have been injured because of gun violence. There is also a suicide every 13 minutes. Firearms account for almost 50% of all suicides. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 77. Gun Control Laws In The United States The question of gun control laws in the United States is a particularly divisive issue. Through the media coverage of recent events concerning gun violence in this country alone, including the mass shootings in Orlando, San Bernardino, and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, arguments for and against stricter gun regulations have ignited a controversial debate that seems to have no easy resolution. With the increased in the number of deadly mass shootings, there has also been a rise in gun production and sales. Scott Horsley (2016) stated that the year after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, 2013, "U.S. gun–makers produced nearly 11 million guns", which is two times as many produced three years earlier (para. 4). Furthermore, as guns become more abundant in the population, the public has increasingly strong opinions regarding them.
