How Do Dry Cleaners Really Work?
We often visit the neighbourhood drycleaners for various cleaning needs of ours. Be it wedding dress cleaning or dry
cleaning sheets, dry cleaners in NYC take care of all your needs. Have you ever thought about what happens to your
clothes after they are dropped off at the drycleaner’s place? Here is what happens step by step:
Tagging
This is the first process every dry cleaner follows when you drop your load with them. They count the numbers and
also categorise them as shirts, pants, delicates etc. Then a unique number is put on the clothes in order to trace it to
its owner during delivery.
Inspection
The clothes are inspected for stains and are sorted according to the stain removal technique that needs to be
employed to remove it. The clothes are also inspected for any damage.
Pre-treatment of stains
In this stage, a stain remover is applied to the stains and put on hold for some time for the stain remover to act. The
idea is to weaken the stain and make its removal easy.
Dry Cleaning
In this process the clothes are fed into a dry cleaning machine that the dry cleaner uses and treated with stain
removing solvents for a pre-decided time. The time of the cycle varies according to the stains of the clothes.
Post Spotting
This is a quality control process. In this stage the clothes are checked after dry cleaning to spot any stains that could
still be left. If spotted action is taken to try and completely remove them.
Finishing
The final stage of dry cleaning includes pressing, steaming, ironing and making any repairs to the cloth. The clothes
are then packed and delivered to the customer.
