Negative Effects Of Artificial Intelligence
Machines and technology are a part of our daily activities and lives. These creations are called
Artificial Intelligence, which is the ability machines and technology have to copy human abilities
and actions. A few artificial intelligence examples would be Siri, Alexa, and robots. AI is potentially
dangerous due to the fact that they are taking over human abilities. Although helpful, using Siri and
Alexa can cause people a loss of creativity and thinking. People are turning off their creativity and
self–thinking abilities by using Siri and Alexa during their daily routines. We commonly ask Siri to
answer questions for us and Alexa to change the music. Instead of taking the time to think or to get
up and change the music, we ask artificial intelligence to do it for us. Over time we will lose the gift
of creativity and the ability of thinking if humans continue to overrate the existence and abilities of
machines and technology. Someone, (Kuszewski, 2012), once stated that we have brains and we
should use them. If we as people do not use them, then our skills, such as thinking, creativity, and
speaking will be dimmed. They create artificial intelligence to be "error–free", while humans
continually make errors. Errors are what creativity thrives off of (Kuszewski, 2012). There are a
number of negative outcomes that will occur in human lives, if we continue to rely on artificial
intelligence. Humans will experience a loss in connection with socialization, affection, and

Similarities Between Shepard And Istvan
Comparing Transhumanism Credibility
Both Shepard and Istvan make strong, well thought out points in regards to transhumanism and the
implications it will have on society and individual's morals and "personal responsibilities". But
Shepard's article holds more credibility, he uses better sources in regards to reliability, and he writes
from more of an academic standpoint (holds more credible/pertinent information).
Though Istvan brings up good points on the naivety and (negative impacts/outcome) of using
transhumanism to build more intelligent beings and the negative implications that will come if we
trust these robots to "uphold human values and mammalian properties", he uses no credible sources
to back up his opinions and boastful claims. When he does use sources they are either from twitter
or Wikipedia in which neither are reliable or dependable sources to retrieve any evidence to support
an argument from. Granted, he brings up powerful, persuasive points on why we should not trust
robots to look after the survival of the human race when they in fact aren't apart of our species. As
well as the implications that genetic engineering will bring to human morals. But in the end his

I feel Istavans purpose lies more on the lines of selling himself and his ideas to the public. While
Shepard comes from more of an academic standpoint, educating readers on transhumanism and the
affects it will most likely have on their future. Yet, both articles hold a foreboding tone of warning in
regards to entrusting our future in the shaky hands of genetic engineering. Both discuss how
machines can't possibly hold human morals and ethics. When "human consciousness is rooted in the
biological nature of the human brain" (Shepard) how could a machine possibly comprehend any of
these ideas. The fact

Cheating Is Wrong
Why do we give awards? Think about it; every country, government, education system, athletic
program, and job field in the world has some sort of system in place for awarding exceptional
people. Whether you are in elementary school or a world renowned scientist you have received
some sort of award (or position) as a tribute to the things you have excelled in. The human race has
a fascination with exceptional things. We hold creativity, intelligence, bravery, uniqueness, and
exceptionalism in the highest esteem. We respect people who have gone above and beyond all else
to do something incredible. We love to tell survivor stories depicting the triumph of the human soul
against all odds. We also have this need to recognize these amazing feats ... Show more content on

The math genius who takes Adderall would not naturally have the same focusing ability that they
would without the medication. Considering that they are giving themselves an outside advantage,
would it be fair if they were given a prize over other people with the same intelligence that are
competing without the advantage? No. How can you even compare two competitors, when you don't
know if the first could beat the second without the advantage? From an educational view point when
you cheat, you are taking away your potential for true intellectual growth. A teacher by the name of
Jessica Lahey wrote an article in the Atlantic Daily that attempted to dive into the pedagogical
reasons behind students cheating. Later on Lahey wrote a reflective post online at
www.theatlantic.com about the previous article in which she comes to understand that not only
pedigogical fallacies lead to cheating but that fact that many students view cheating as okay. In this
reflection she describes an email response from a student who personally cheated and was quite
proud of it. What strikes me is Jessica's on the email from the student, "Most journalists are thrilled
when evidence comes to light that supports their argument. I, however, was devastated. It's one thing
to read the statistics on cheating, but it was quite another to be faced a real–life example

Cognitive Enhancement, Cheating, and Accomplishment
ABSTRACT. An ethics of enhancement should not rest on blanket judgments; it should ask us to
distinguish between the kinds of activities we want to enhance. Both students and academics have
turned to cognition–enhancing drugs in significant numbers–but is their enhancement a form of
cheating? The answer should hinge on whether the activity subject to enhancement is zero–sum or
non–zero–sum, and whether one is more concerned with excellence in process or excellence in
outcome. Cognitive enhancement should be especially tolerated when the activities at stake are non–
zero–sum and when the importance of process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I argue that the use of CEDs is especially beneficial, and should be especially tolerated, when the
activities at stake are non–zero–sum and when the importance of process is outweighed by the
importance of outcome. Finally, I criticize the claim that CEDs unnaturally cheapen human
accomplishments; instead, I consider their use to be in line with well–established conceptions of
collaborative authorship, which shift the locus of praise and blame from individual creators to the
ultimate products of their efforts.
CHARACTERISTICS AND USE OF COgNITION–ENHANCINg DRUgS

ranging from narcolepsy to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, their off–label use has been
reported to increase users' recall, attention span, and ability to focus on cognitive tasks; in addition,
modafinil has been shown to increase wakefulness (Butcher 2003; greely et al. 2008). Some CEDs
also seem to enhance users' "executive function," or problem–solving ability (Mehlman 2004, p.

Technology And Technology : The Possibility Of Modern...
Computers were designed to make human function easier and more convenient. The capabilities of
modern computers go above and beyond their original expectations and have constantly provided
intelligence, convenience, and entertainment to people and businesses. The rate at which technology
is increasing is interesting to some and scary to others. The speed and accuracy of machines has
enhanced the world as we know it. People are constantly searching for ways to make computers
better, but humanity has still not reached the full capability of technology. There is no way to tell if
people will ever reach full technological capability, or if we even want to venture that far, but
technology has no known limit, so humanity will work continuously to make new discoveries that
change the way we look at the world.
In order for computers to enhance human capability, people needed to first design a way for
computers to receive input and retain it. The first example of a human designed device that could
retain input dates back to approximately 3000 BC (Abdallah). A device called an Abacus was used
to count and contained several rows of beads on a sliding metal wire that were moved to count and
perform mathematics (Abdallah). Today computers rely on more complicated technology referred to
as hardware. The form of hardware that allows a computer to perceive information is called an input
device. Keyboards, touchpads, microphones, scanners, and cameras all fall into the category of input
devices. Although these devices have different functionality, they all serve one purpose; receiving
information (Abdallah). These devices are the computer equivalent to human eyes and ears. One
technological achievement in input, that has been very popular recently, is touchscreen. This huge
step in computer convenience disposes of buttons and allows a user to touch the screen to select
items shown. Despite all of the recent advancements in technology, input devices are useless without
a user. Another disadvantage of input devices is the complexity of the language barrier. This
problem has been around since the dawn of humanity, but is very apparent in the field of technology
because having unlimited range of communication is useless without

Glasser's Ten Axioms Of The Choice Theory
The choice theory states that humans are internally motivated. According to the theory, all humans
do from birth to death is behave
(Sommers–Flanagan & Sommers–Flanagan, 2015). Glasser referred to the concept total behavior
which includes acting, thinking, feeling, and physiology. In addition to these concepts, there are ten
axioms of choice theory. The choice theory states that humans are motivated to satisfy one or more
five basic, genetically encoded needs (Sommers–Flanagan & Sommers–Flanagan, 2015). These
needs include survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun. With the concept of survival,
all living creatures are genetically programmed to struggle to survive and survival needs are
expressed through total behavior. The second basic human need of love and belonging describes the
need for humans to need other people in their lives to meet the rest of their needs. Glasser believes
that the need for us to love and belong is the primary human need. We are influenced everywhere to
have the feeling of love and belonging. Glasser also provides advice for those looking for romantic
love. Glasser says the need for power is viewed negatively and he would rather it be depicted
positively with characteristics such as achievement, inner control, or accomplishment (Sommers–
Flanagan & Sommers–Flanagan, 2015). The concept in choice theory states that creativity is directly
connected to freedom. The rationale for this is if one is not able to express themselves then they are
not truly free. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pleasure
Pleasure – The Driving Force in all Human Achievement
Every choice we make as humans, whether conscious or not, is made with our own pleasure in
mind. When we choose to buy a pack of chocolate, go to church, or even go to work, we do it with
the goal of maximizing our own pleasure. The choices we make are those that we feel will give us
the greatest pleasure. We spend our entire lives trying to maximize pleasure and minimize pain; this
is the essence of man.
Aristippus was one of the first philosophers of ancient Greece to state that the focus of life is
pleasure. He said that "The highest good is pleasure, the greatest evil is pain." (Gaarder, 132)
Epicurus expanded his ideas around 300 BC, saying that the pleasurable results of an ... Show more

Upon Epicurus' death, the Epicureans ––his followers–– began to shift towards caring only for
momentary pleasure, and now the term Epicurean refers to s omeone who cares only for their own
pleasure (Gaarder, 133).
It is important to remember, however, that not only is our own pleasure important, we also care
about others pleasure. In other words, it gives us pleasure to bring others pleasure. Most have a
desire to please our family, our friends, or our God. We do it because it makes us feel good to make
these others feel good. People give to charity because it makes them feel benevolent, which is a
pleasing emotion. I have yet to hear of someone who gives gifts or charity simply for the altruistic
value. The do it for the pleasure it brings them. Kant hypothesized that a person who gives without
taking any pleasure from it is a much better person than one who does. I would agree, but I'd say
that person does not exist. The fact is we please others simply because it pleases ourselves.
This argument is discredited by those that say humans function from a higher, often religious, sense
of morality. They say that pleasure and morality have nothing in common. This could not be further
from the truth. Morality and pleasure are directly linked "Why do (we) need morality? To make the
right decisions. What are the right decisions? Those which create pleasure, not pain."

Is It Morally Wrong?
Genetic enhancements have been an interesting topic of discussion between people who think it is
ethically permissible and others, who think it is morally wrong. One of the most discussed
arguments states that it is morally wrong for parents to genetically enhance their child because it
takes away the great value of a yet unborn child life. In order to prove it is true, it is useful to
explore some facts that serve as an evidence for the argument 's conclusion. Let 's start from
thinking of the person 's life as a general concept. Life is something that is given to every single one
of us as a natural gift. It does belong only to that particular individual. So, life is a "natural" property
that each human has that prevents others making decisions for someone else. For example, if I own
a car, it is considered my property. Since it is my vehicle, I would not want anyone else make
decisions about it, like driving it somewhere, changing its color or selling it. Another concept that is
very important to understand is that human 's life has a certain significance. Person 's life gains
importance when an individual achieves something like knowledge, or if he/she gains a new skill,
e.g. learning how to play a piano. Majority of such accomplishments are the result of a hard work
and time investment. According to Charlotte Buhler, the person 's life goals and values remain in
development during the first 20–25 years of life (Buhler, 405). So, this period in human 's life is the

prime reality is unique because everyone does not share the exact same view. For example, some
people believe that a superior force created the universe and left it to fend for its own. As I begin to

Hannah Arendt's The Human Condition
The Human Condition
Hannah Arendt's book, The Human Condition, examines the "vita activa" and it's relation to three
fundamental human activities: labor, work and action. Arendt holds that these three activities
"correspond to one of the basic conditions under which life on earth has been given to man" and
make up politics (7). Throughout the book Arendt ultimately makes the point that our main political
job is to discover other people's opinions about political life and to then go forward and examine
these opinions together. Differing viewpoints and opinions are inevitable and through politics we
examine these opinions and should be able to find agreements within the discrepancies. In Arendt's
opinion examining opinions together is doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Labor and work can be easily distinguished between by the products length of stay in the world.
These things are unnatural, or artificial. Products, such as houses, desks and phones are examples of
things constructed through work. The activity of work provides for a stable world and serves the
purpose of creating durability. Unlike labor, works sole relation to providing viable living conditions
results in the view of every thing and every person as a means to make the object. Through the
activity of work, the end justifies the means. This results in people being treated as a means to an
end instead of a unique person. In the world of work, one person is in charge and violence is
acceptable. Arendt justifies the use of violence, particularly in relation to nature, by saying "the end
justifies the violence done to nature to win the material, as the wood justifies killing the tree and the
table justifies destroying the wood". Because products of work are so durable and have a long
lifespan, they provide continuity with the past. Although work does not directly connect to the
human condition of life, it does provide some rewards. Work provides pride and a sense of
accomplishment. According to Arendt, work can "provide self assurance and satisfaction, and can
even become a source of self–confidence throughout life" (140). People are able to master nature
and therefore master oneself. The highest reward of work however is the work of art. While it is

Why Is Pride An Overvalue Of Jealousy Of Others?
Pride, an extremely important concept in many cultures that inspires humility and obedience, is
nearly universally known as one of the worst character traits a person can have as it is thought to be
the cause of all sins. Self–centeredness on the other hand, commonly represented as simply working
for oneself, is actually just a quality in all human lives that results from the simple fact that people
can only experience the world from their own viewpoints. Although pride seems to be the cause of
jealousy of others, in reality, pride is an overvalue of one's own accomplishments that only slightly
affects one's view of others, whereas self–centeredness is the natural state of individuality that stifles
the amount of empathy that one can feel for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As people can only view the universe from their current perspective, the lack of understanding about
positions or people other than themselves in their current moment is understandable, although still a
negative. Although rare, pride can have useful effects such as balancing out one's self–esteem and
gaining contentedness in one's own work, but it can also be a detriment with its overvalue on
personal achievements and the arrogance that that can cause. The reason that people are jealous of
all above them and feel superior to all below them is because at the current moment in their life,
they cannot truly feel what another person feels. With this distortion of the beliefs and positions of
others, People, insecure in their own position in life and selfishly desiring to be above others,
naturally disapprove of all others, especially if the people have not been in the others' situation.
Although it supports the concept of solipsism, the belief that the rest of the universe is a figment of
one's mind and there is only one conscious being in the entire universe, the concept of self–
centeredness is more realistic for humans as, although some people think that they can truly
empathize, they cannot feel another's emotions accurately and

Generation Z By David Mccullough Essay
David McCullough
.David McCullough's speech and criticism of "Generation Z", the youth of the 21st century is
justified and insightful. "Generation Z" allows special to become a purposeless term, prefers to win
rather than achieve, and "Generation Z" is obsessed with superficial growth rather than internal
prosperity. Mr McCullough Jr criticises the generation's uselessness in terms of wanting to be
"special," he does so by showing why meaningless accomplishment undermines actual major
achievements. From everyone receiving the same participation trophy, which undermines the
winners 1st place trophy, stated on June 5, 2012 line 1 to 2 paragraphs 5. "You see, if everyone is
special, then no one is. If everyone gets a trophy, trophies become meaningless. In our unspoken but
not so subtle Darwinian competition with one another–which springs, I think, from our fear of our
own insignificance, a subset of our dread of mortality." The ideology of equality in consideration to
achievement, is harmful to society in every way. It undermines serious achievement which prompts
good men to stop wanting to achieve anything. It would put the world at an intellectual standstill
were nothing new is ever made but repackaged and sold at a higher price. Which brings the question
as to why generation z isn't special, it is due to their narcissism and lack of will to accomplish.
Generation Z millennials have developed an utter curse for seeing accolades more than actual

Their anthropomorphic gods embodied the qualities of the natural forces, and the Egyptian ruler,

The Between Glaucon And The Socrates
All the philosophers had great theories and ideas behind each of their believes and theories. One of
the greatest well–known philosophers was Plato. His ideas and believes were deeper than the human
eye. Plato believed our soul consisted of three parts logical, spirited, and appetitive. He believed in
order for us as humans to find happiness, all three parts of our soul needed to be in harmony. As
explained in this statement: We become unhappy when the three parts of ourselves are constantly
fighting against one another so that we lack inner harmony, and we fall victim to vice when we are
ruled by our emotions or desires. In one of the dialogues between Glaucon and the Socrates we
understand the deeper level of his theories. I find his believes and thoughts very interesting as he
helps us understand the way our inner emotions and reason could at times reflect on the humans we
become on our day to day lives. He explains how we can become a slave to our own emotions and
desires. When we allow emotion to take over we disregard our logic, which reflects on our response
to life and decisions. This theory has helped me understand a deeper level of myself in a different
perspective. When a person or human does not allow logic to direct the other parts of our soul we
can fall into making irrational decisions. Plato believed until we linked the three parts of the soul
together as humans we would not be in harmony or become satisfied. As humans we will never find
full satisfaction

nothing. It's up to the people to make their own lives more valuable and enjoyable. Life is a journey
and you never know what you will experience.
A friend of mine once stated, "What's the point of living if you don't have any goals."This bold
statement has a good and bad side. The good side to this is that, my friend was right that we should
focus on our goals. The bad side is that some people are just too stressed or nervous to even think
about the future. I feel as if they are focusing on the present and each day is another obstacle for
them. Why should someone commit suicide just because they have no goals? The time will

Forget Trophies, Let Kids Know O. K To Lose
Over the years, society has undergone a modern evolution which has caused the human race to
become more sensitive in a competitive setting. Trophies used to represent a token of
accomplishment. However, their value has diminished with the widespread usage of participation
awards. Instead of inspiring the impressionable youth to become more skilled in a particular sport as
trophies once did, these mementoes serve as a reminder to a memory rather than a symbol of true
achievement. The awards are causing the youth of the world to become lazy and undriven to push
themselves to accomplish their goals. The topic of participation trophies have been heavily featured
in The New York Times' online forum, "Room for Debate." Several individuals from different walks
of life voiced their opinion on the matter. Although their usage can be beneficial in certain scenarios,
participation awards are doing more harm than good by encouraging young athletes to remain idle in
their skill progression.
Ashley Merryman claims in her article "Forget Trophies, Let Kids Know It's O.K. to Lose," that
young athletes need to understand the importance of focusing on process and progress, rather than
results and rewards, which convey that losing in real life is horrible. She also states that contrary to
popular belief, research has proven that trophies and awards do not have positive or negative effects
on one's self–esteem. Merryman's solution to the issue is to spend time developing children's skills,

While I am sure that many would argue that there is an abundance of other great things one can do

accomplishment because not being yourself can lead to unhappiness and anxiety, It gives other

even our own ancestors could not imagine. It was over 350 years ago that a cell was first discovered
by humans. Now, scientists have mapped the entire genome of humans and even other organisms.
Why might this be important? With this accomplishment, scientists can now peer into a person and
see their genetic makeup or rather their "identity." This information in hand, scientists can find
genes for specific traits or abnormalities. However, with this technology, there are ethical problems
that are associated with it. Should humans have the power to select what genes an offspring should
have and if so what specific genes can they alter? Should humans have the power to "play God?"
These questions indeed are difficult to answer. Regardless, this issue must be addressed for the
unborn children who will be involved in this ongoing controversy. Many people may not realize
this, but genetic modification has already taken shape. A process known as in vitro fertilization
(IVF) has aided numerous people who have had difficulty in fertility. Many years ago, the idea of a
women getting pregnant through artificial insemination was a far cry from being feasible. The
technology and science was not advanced enough to perform something as delicate and complexed
as this. Even so, the development of IVF has created many people who could not have been born
through traditional needs.

Film Analysis Of The Movie Lincoln
One of the main points the movie Lincoln discusses is the 13th amendment and the war leading up
to it, as well as all the behind the scenes' action that needed to take place in order for the amendment
to be passed. The movie Lincoln gave me a new perspective on Lincoln's presidency as well as his
personal life. It is easy to forget that people with a lot of power or fame are still humans with
families and feelings. The movie helped show how much grief Lincoln and his wife had over their
deceased son who had passed away. It helped me remember that even though Lincoln was a
president and responsible for the whole country, he was first and foremost responsible for his family.

Lincoln and his party began to persuade politicians of the opposed party with political favors.
Lincoln and his party hired lobbyists who swiftly bribed the other politicians by promising them
certain government jobs. I never realized how much behind the scenes action needs to happen in
order to gain support for certain bills in government. From hearing Lincoln speak about slavery to
his cabinet, you see how passionate he was about the amendment. To him, it was more than just a
bill, he clearly valued human life and hated the atrocities that were taking place. I respect him so
much more after watching the movie because he did not care that many people hated him and what
he was doing. At the beginning his wife tried to convince him not to try and pass the bill because it
was close to his inauguration. However, Lincoln did care and he was very passionate about his bill.
After watching the movie my entire perspective on Lincoln changed. I never really gave him
thought or cared for him. I just thought of him as any other president. Now, I have gained a new
perspective on his character. The difference between watching the movie and learning about him in
class is that in class we mostly learn facts about him, but when you watch the movie you get to see a
different side of him. Watching the movie enabled me to further understand Lincoln as a person
rather than just a politician.

How Does Ender's Game Change
Humans present in both Old Man's War and Ender's Games have changed due to the technophilic
world they are accustomed to by heavily relying on technology. Changes provided by the authors in
the novels are the value of human and other species life, violence as an immediate response to
possible danger, and character behavior development. In both novels, humanity is able to achieve a
great "accomplishment" although these accomplishments seem to lure humanity into the wrong
direction leading to the road of destruction due to the cause of their own technological violent and
brutal uses.
The first way in which change is perceived is through the value of life in all species. This is present
in both novels through the various aspects of war. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The protagonist in the novel of Ender's Game changes through the course of the novel in various
ways. An example of this would be when Ender takes the decision to join the military school in
order to help protect humanity from invaders and fulfill his "purpose" for which he was born for, his
goal is to quickly learn how to progress inside the school, while also maintaining himself far away
from his brother's aggressive personality, and his last change is his strength in the kindness and
innocence that he offers others. Ender changes his fighting motives by the end of the book in the
way that he no longer thinks he is protecting humanity from the Bugger's but instead is improving
himself in order to beat the system and the technology around him with newly learned techniques.
Ender's goals change from defending humanity to actually trying to find a new planet in which a
new Bugger civilization can begin from the beginning. He decides to take a ship and travel along
with his sister through space to find this new planet that might give the Bugger race hope of
surviving. In Old Man's War John Perry changes his motives of fighting in the CDF due to the fact
that the technology that he is now offered he is given a completely new functioning body that offers
him the opportunity to fight and live longer. John Perry's perspective about fighting changes from
fighting for himself to fighting for his close friends "the old farts" and the woman inside his wife's
body. Along with the help of technology, he is able to save his loved one Jane Sagan for a better
hope for the future. Perry's goals change from the beginning of the book to end in the way that he no
longer is just trying to survive and explore the universe but to survive for Jane Sagan for whom he
wants to establish a life within a farm

Anthropocene: New Epoch Of Human Rule
Anthropocene: New Epoch of Human Rule Humankind is drastically changing the face of the
planet. Even climate change deniers cannot completely refute the basic idea–all one has to do is look
out a window. From changing the course of rivers to clearing entire forests, one would be hard
pressed to find a single area of the planet that does not bear the marks of our presence. In fact, so
strong is our influence on the planet that scientists have for some time now been debating officially
declaring a new geologic epoch. Epochs are generally characterized by massively significant events,
like the ending of an ice age. The current epoch, the Holocene, began after the last glacial period,
roughly 11,500 years ago. The idea that mankind has had as

Neolithic Revolution
Today's advancements have really brought humans far, but which one is the greatest? Is it the Liquid
Biopsy, Supercharged Photosynthesis, or perhaps Practical Quantum Computers? All of these are
major advancements in today's world, but today's advancements have all stemmed from one very
important revolution in the beginning of civilization. At the beginning of civilization we were
hunters and gatherers, who spent all their time hunting and searching for food. We never had time
for anything else besides survival, and we never would have if it hadn't been for the Neolithic
Revolution. Agricultural advancements brought forth a whole new age. The Neolithic Revolution is
the most important human advancement in history and has allowed humans to advance
tremendously in many ways.
Farming advanced the human race to new heights in the culinary arts, and we discovered new foods
that we could grow and use. These new ingredients were implemented into recipes and imprinted in
culture. The food you eat determines your social status, describes your culture, and shows your
mutual taste as human beings. In our society today, these rules still apply. Fancy foods that are served

The Individual in "Chains of Illusion”
Two distinct ways that identifies one's lifestyle is attributed to the concept of necrophilia and
biophilia. Necrophilia can be defined as the love of death and biophilia can be defined as the love of
life. Human character is dominated by both forces, but it is important to identify which of these
forces plays a dominant role. The dominant role dictates the relational life one has with the world.
The class of people one can associate with necrophiliacs are members of violent gangs. Members of
violent gangs thrive on the love of death, and this poses a great threat to a human society that strives
to be good. Gangs are built on the basis of loyalty. Membership in violent gang hinges on one

Fromm sees the perfect individual through his personal experiences. Fromm believed that the world
wars were manipulated by political leaders to rob individual of his ability to think for himself. (
Fromm, 329) The main problem with Fromm is that his emphasis to attain nature of conformity is
accomplished through physical acts. For example, Fromm shows this logic in his essay "Individual
in the chains of illusion." In this essay, he iterates his problem with the United Nations and how this
organization leads him to think about " the concept of one world." Fromm explains that he actually
sees a unified individual who transcends the limits of one's nation and treats every human beings as
a neighbor. Fromm sees non–conformity in a person who accomplishes individuality through his
singularity in behavior and thought. However, the similarities outweigh the differences in both
ideologies. Fromm and Emerson both advocate that the individual is a conformist when one is
subsumed under a organization. They claim that the role of an non–conformist is to clash with
society and their rules. Fromm and Emerson were fascinated by thinkers who freed themselves from
organized societies . The main problem with their philosophy is that if all of human race was non–
conforming to society, the world would be destroyed. Laws were created to promote order and
create a balance for the non–conformer. If there was no balance in the

Human Condition In Human Life
There are so many depths to a human's personality traits, characteristics, and identity. These depths
create an individualized pathway for the life the human lives. This could mean that their attitude

way, a humans depths of individuality creates a person's human condition. The human condition
derives from the key events, situations, and characteristics that occur in a human's life. This creates

gives humans the opportunity to create their future upon things that they like to do and could

personally appear to be less morally important. Personal values are what make a person. People are

anxiety, and the thoughts of others are important to me Love, friendship and intimacy are most
important values of all because these things can make people feel whole. Boyfriends, friends, and
even family members may come and go but the feeling of being with these people will never be

Negative Effects Of Artificial Intelligence
Machines and technology are included in our daily activities and lives. Artificial Intelligence is the
ability machines and technologies have to copy human abilities and actions. Some examples of
artificial intelligence examples would be Siri, Alexa, and robots. AI is potentially dangerous because
they are taking over human abilities. Although helpful, using Siri and Alexa can cause people a loss
of creativity and thinking. People are turning off their creativity and self–thinking abilities by using
Siri and Alexa during their daily routines. Siri is commonly asked questions and Alexa is requested
to change the music. Instead of taking the time to think or to get up and change the music, we ask
artificial intelligence to carry out the task. Over time, we will lose the gift of creativity and thinking
if humans continue to overrate the existence, and abilities of machines and technology. Someone
once stated that we have brains, and we should use them. If we as people do not use them, then our
skills such as thinking, creativity, and speaking will dim. They create artificial intelligence error–
free, while humans continually make errors. Errors are what creativity thrives on (Kuszewski).
There are several negative outcomes that will occur in human lives, if we continue relying on
artificial intelligence. Humans will experience a loss in connections with socialization, affection,
and feelings of accomplishment in human abilities. Socialization connections include how we learn

Martin Luther King and Two other Reasons the Human Race...
Human beings are the epitome of contradictory. As a whole we have so many accomplishments to
take pride in, yet at the same time we have caused so many tragedies where the means do not justify
the ends. Regardless of the fact that we are the utmost confusing race to ever exist, human beings
should be spared from the wrath of the aliens because human beings are constantly developing and
surely that is something to be proud of. Throughout the genealogy of all human beings, there have
been specific human beings who were born and changed the way we have lived – forever. For
example, Martin Luther King Jr. The man has a day reserved to him in honor of his social
accomplishment. If that does not speak the magnitude of significance about this human
accomplishment, then I do not understand what will. Martin Luther King Jr. fought against the
socially corrupt principal of racism under a society who severally persecuted anyone who tried to
swim against the current of racism. Not only did he fight racism, he fought it with his piercing
words instead of physical weapons. Under all odds a human being changed not only the hearts and
minds of the human race, but the social manners that Martin Luther King Jr. believed should be
within all humans: everybody in this Earth is equal. His social revamp also created a causal chain.
Although overcoming racism carries large importance, Martin Luther King Jr.'s accomplishment
resonates to other generations beyond his. Even today we are fighting

The list of all viable human possesses a common root from which they stem: a lack of the sense of

shape or form; the sheer thought of not attaining a set goal frightens certain individuals more than
spiders, heights, or any other common phobia. When a person begins to live in the world without
any feeling of purpose or achievement, he or she ceases to exist as a human being. Therefore, human
fear is a state of uncertainty that prevents individuals from reaching a set or desired goal. The fear of

Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs In Hamlet By Ophelia
In a quote from Shakespeare's famous play, Hamlet, a character named Ophelia explains a truth
about the human psyche and about human personality. Consequently, Maslow's studies go hand in
hand with this quote because of the close relation of concepts. Maslow's main theory of human
behavior regards his Hierarchy of Needs. Basic human needs such as food, water, and shelter are
placed towards the bottom of the pyramid. The needs gradually increase in intensity to love and
belongingness, to self–esteem, and finally to the grand finale, total self–awareness. In relation to the

necessities such as what was previously mentioned above. Furthermore, humanity knows

Mountains are significant in the writing of Jack Kerouac and Donald Barthelme as symbolic
representations of achievement and the isolation of an individual from the masses of the working
class in industrialized capitalist American society. The mountains, depicted by Kerouac and
Barthelme, rise above the American landscape as majestic entities whose peaks are touched by few

The mountains, being so colossal, have many levels and plateaus in which some people may find
comfort and a sense of accomplishment where they may choose to live out the remainder of their
lives, although they are far from the peak. Morley's decision to stay behind while Japhy and Ray
continue their climb to the peak of Matterhorn is comparable to Barthelme's depiction of the crowd
on the streets watching cynically as their hero climbs to the golden castle of the glass mountain. This
crowd symbolizes the growing middle class, comfortable in their conformity as "working stiffs" and
homemakers who do not want to risk their current contentment for a chance to reach the heights of
American capitalism. Morley is content to remain a "dreaming spot by the little lake" in the eyes of
Ray Smith who is miles ahead on the mountain questioning his own decision to tackle the
frightening height of the Matterhorn. (p.82). Morley represents, through his actions, Americans
living comfortably, yet always dreaming "the American dream" to be more successful, powerful, or
rich as he says "I don't think I can make it. Ill wait here" (P. 81). The plateaus in the "Glass

Negative Effects Of AI On Creativity

  • 1. Negative Effects Of Artificial Intelligence Machines and technology are a part of our daily activities and lives. These creations are called Artificial Intelligence, which is the ability machines and technology have to copy human abilities and actions. A few artificial intelligence examples would be Siri, Alexa, and robots. AI is potentially dangerous due to the fact that they are taking over human abilities. Although helpful, using Siri and Alexa can cause people a loss of creativity and thinking. People are turning off their creativity and self–thinking abilities by using Siri and Alexa during their daily routines. We commonly ask Siri to answer questions for us and Alexa to change the music. Instead of taking the time to think or to get up and change the music, we ask artificial intelligence to do it for us. Over time we will lose the gift of creativity and the ability of thinking if humans continue to overrate the existence and abilities of machines and technology. Someone, (Kuszewski, 2012), once stated that we have brains and we should use them. If we as people do not use them, then our skills, such as thinking, creativity, and speaking will be dimmed. They create artificial intelligence to be "error–free", while humans continually make errors. Errors are what creativity thrives off of (Kuszewski, 2012). There are a number of negative outcomes that will occur in human lives, if we continue to rely on artificial intelligence. Humans will experience a loss in connection with socialization, affection, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Similarities Between Shepard And Istvan Comparing Transhumanism Credibility Both Shepard and Istvan make strong, well thought out points in regards to transhumanism and the implications it will have on society and individual's morals and "personal responsibilities". But Shepard's article holds more credibility, he uses better sources in regards to reliability, and he writes from more of an academic standpoint (holds more credible/pertinent information). Though Istvan brings up good points on the naivety and (negative impacts/outcome) of using transhumanism to build more intelligent beings and the negative implications that will come if we trust these robots to "uphold human values and mammalian properties", he uses no credible sources to back up his opinions and boastful claims. When he does use sources they are either from twitter or Wikipedia in which neither are reliable or dependable sources to retrieve any evidence to support an argument from. Granted, he brings up powerful, persuasive points on why we should not trust robots to look after the survival of the human race when they in fact aren't apart of our species. As well as the implications that genetic engineering will bring to human morals. But in the end his article is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I feel Istavans purpose lies more on the lines of selling himself and his ideas to the public. While Shepard comes from more of an academic standpoint, educating readers on transhumanism and the affects it will most likely have on their future. Yet, both articles hold a foreboding tone of warning in regards to entrusting our future in the shaky hands of genetic engineering. Both discuss how machines can't possibly hold human morals and ethics. When "human consciousness is rooted in the biological nature of the human brain" (Shepard) how could a machine possibly comprehend any of these ideas. The fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Cheating Is Wrong Why do we give awards? Think about it; every country, government, education system, athletic program, and job field in the world has some sort of system in place for awarding exceptional people. Whether you are in elementary school or a world renowned scientist you have received some sort of award (or position) as a tribute to the things you have excelled in. The human race has a fascination with exceptional things. We hold creativity, intelligence, bravery, uniqueness, and exceptionalism in the highest esteem. We respect people who have gone above and beyond all else to do something incredible. We love to tell survivor stories depicting the triumph of the human soul against all odds. We also have this need to recognize these amazing feats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The math genius who takes Adderall would not naturally have the same focusing ability that they would without the medication. Considering that they are giving themselves an outside advantage, would it be fair if they were given a prize over other people with the same intelligence that are competing without the advantage? No. How can you even compare two competitors, when you don't know if the first could beat the second without the advantage? From an educational view point when you cheat, you are taking away your potential for true intellectual growth. A teacher by the name of Jessica Lahey wrote an article in the Atlantic Daily that attempted to dive into the pedagogical reasons behind students cheating. Later on Lahey wrote a reflective post online at www.theatlantic.com about the previous article in which she comes to understand that not only pedigogical fallacies lead to cheating but that fact that many students view cheating as okay. In this reflection she describes an email response from a student who personally cheated and was quite proud of it. What strikes me is Jessica's on the email from the student, "Most journalists are thrilled when evidence comes to light that supports their argument. I, however, was devastated. It's one thing to read the statistics on cheating, but it was quite another to be faced a real–life example ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Erving Goffman Stigma Goodman CoGnitive enhanCement, CheatinG, and aCComplishment Rob Goodman Cognitive Enhancement, Cheating, and Accomplishment ABSTRACT. An ethics of enhancement should not rest on blanket judgments; it should ask us to distinguish between the kinds of activities we want to enhance. Both students and academics have turned to cognition–enhancing drugs in significant numbers–but is their enhancement a form of cheating? The answer should hinge on whether the activity subject to enhancement is zero–sum or non–zero–sum, and whether one is more concerned with excellence in process or excellence in outcome. Cognitive enhancement should be especially tolerated when the activities at stake are non– zero–sum and when the importance of process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I argue that the use of CEDs is especially beneficial, and should be especially tolerated, when the activities at stake are non–zero–sum and when the importance of process is outweighed by the importance of outcome. Finally, I criticize the claim that CEDs unnaturally cheapen human accomplishments; instead, I consider their use to be in line with well–established conceptions of collaborative authorship, which shift the locus of praise and blame from individual creators to the ultimate products of their efforts. CHARACTERISTICS AND USE OF COgNITION–ENHANCINg DRUgS Among the most common CEDs are modafinil, methylphenidate, and dextroamphetamine, which are available under the brand names Provigil, [ 146 ] Goodman CoGnitive enhanCement, CheatinG, and aCComplishment Ritalin, and Adderall, respectively. Although originally developed to treat diagnosed conditions ranging from narcolepsy to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, their off–label use has been reported to increase users' recall, attention span, and ability to focus on cognitive tasks; in addition, modafinil has been shown to increase wakefulness (Butcher 2003; greely et al. 2008). Some CEDs also seem to enhance users' "executive function," or problem–solving ability (Mehlman 2004, p. 484). • 9. Technology And Technology : The Possibility Of Modern... Computers were designed to make human function easier and more convenient. The capabilities of modern computers go above and beyond their original expectations and have constantly provided intelligence, convenience, and entertainment to people and businesses. The rate at which technology is increasing is interesting to some and scary to others. The speed and accuracy of machines has enhanced the world as we know it. People are constantly searching for ways to make computers better, but humanity has still not reached the full capability of technology. There is no way to tell if people will ever reach full technological capability, or if we even want to venture that far, but technology has no known limit, so humanity will work continuously to make new discoveries that change the way we look at the world. In order for computers to enhance human capability, people needed to first design a way for computers to receive input and retain it. The first example of a human designed device that could retain input dates back to approximately 3000 BC (Abdallah). A device called an Abacus was used to count and contained several rows of beads on a sliding metal wire that were moved to count and perform mathematics (Abdallah). Today computers rely on more complicated technology referred to as hardware. The form of hardware that allows a computer to perceive information is called an input device. Keyboards, touchpads, microphones, scanners, and cameras all fall into the category of input devices. Although these devices have different functionality, they all serve one purpose; receiving information (Abdallah). These devices are the computer equivalent to human eyes and ears. One technological achievement in input, that has been very popular recently, is touchscreen. This huge step in computer convenience disposes of buttons and allows a user to touch the screen to select items shown. Despite all of the recent advancements in technology, input devices are useless without a user. Another disadvantage of input devices is the complexity of the language barrier. This problem has been around since the dawn of humanity, but is very apparent in the field of technology because having unlimited range of communication is useless without ... • 11. Glasser's Ten Axioms Of The Choice Theory The choice theory states that humans are internally motivated. According to the theory, all humans do from birth to death is behave (Sommers–Flanagan & Sommers–Flanagan, 2015). Glasser referred to the concept total behavior which includes acting, thinking, feeling, and physiology. In addition to these concepts, there are ten axioms of choice theory. The choice theory states that humans are motivated to satisfy one or more five basic, genetically encoded needs (Sommers–Flanagan & Sommers–Flanagan, 2015). These needs include survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun. With the concept of survival, all living creatures are genetically programmed to struggle to survive and survival needs are expressed through total behavior. The second basic human need of love and belonging describes the need for humans to need other people in their lives to meet the rest of their needs. Glasser believes that the need for us to love and belong is the primary human need. We are influenced everywhere to have the feeling of love and belonging. Glasser also provides advice for those looking for romantic love. Glasser says the need for power is viewed negatively and he would rather it be depicted positively with characteristics such as achievement, inner control, or accomplishment (Sommers– Flanagan & Sommers–Flanagan, 2015). The concept in choice theory states that creativity is directly connected to freedom. The rationale for this is if one is not able to express themselves then they are not truly free. ... When discussing the book, there are many details brought up that were not talked about, or shown in the movie. This is what gives the book a more genuine feel for what they went through. • 15. Pleasure Pleasure – The Driving Force in all Human Achievement Every choice we make as humans, whether conscious or not, is made with our own pleasure in mind. When we choose to buy a pack of chocolate, go to church, or even go to work, we do it with the goal of maximizing our own pleasure. The choices we make are those that we feel will give us the greatest pleasure. We spend our entire lives trying to maximize pleasure and minimize pain; this is the essence of man. Aristippus was one of the first philosophers of ancient Greece to state that the focus of life is pleasure. He said that "The highest good is pleasure, the greatest evil is pain." (Gaarder, 132) Epicurus expanded his ideas around 300 BC, saying that the pleasurable results of an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Upon Epicurus' death, the Epicureans ––his followers–– began to shift towards caring only for momentary pleasure, and now the term Epicurean refers to s omeone who cares only for their own pleasure (Gaarder, 133). It is important to remember, however, that not only is our own pleasure important, we also care about others pleasure. In other words, it gives us pleasure to bring others pleasure. Most have a desire to please our family, our friends, or our God. We do it because it makes us feel good to make these others feel good. People give to charity because it makes them feel benevolent, which is a pleasing emotion. I have yet to hear of someone who gives gifts or charity simply for the altruistic value. The do it for the pleasure it brings them. Kant hypothesized that a person who gives without taking any pleasure from it is a much better person than one who does. I would agree, but I'd say that person does not exist. The fact is we please others simply because it pleases ourselves. This argument is discredited by those that say humans function from a higher, often religious, sense of morality. They say that pleasure and morality have nothing in common. This could not be further from the truth. Morality and pleasure are directly linked "Why do (we) need morality? To make the right decisions. What are the right decisions? Those which create pleasure, not pain." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Is It Morally Wrong? Genetic enhancements have been an interesting topic of discussion between people who think it is ethically permissible and others, who think it is morally wrong. One of the most discussed arguments states that it is morally wrong for parents to genetically enhance their child because it takes away the great value of a yet unborn child life. In order to prove it is true, it is useful to explore some facts that serve as an evidence for the argument 's conclusion. Let 's start from thinking of the person 's life as a general concept. Life is something that is given to every single one of us as a natural gift. It does belong only to that particular individual. So, life is a "natural" property that each human has that prevents others making decisions for someone else. For example, if I own a car, it is considered my property. Since it is my vehicle, I would not want anyone else make decisions about it, like driving it somewhere, changing its color or selling it. Another concept that is very important to understand is that human 's life has a certain significance. Person 's life gains importance when an individual achieves something like knowledge, or if he/she gains a new skill, e.g. learning how to play a piano. Majority of such accomplishments are the result of a hard work and time investment. According to Charlotte Buhler, the person 's life goals and values remain in development during the first 20–25 years of life (Buhler, 405). So, this period in human 's life is the most ... Each prime reality is unique because everyone does not share the exact same view. For example, some people believe that a superior force created the universe and left it to fend for its own. Hannah Arendt's The Human Condition The Human Condition Hannah Arendt's book, The Human Condition, examines the "vita activa" and it's relation to three fundamental human activities: labor, work and action. Arendt holds that these three activities "correspond to one of the basic conditions under which life on earth has been given to man" and make up politics (7). Throughout the book Arendt ultimately makes the point that our main political job is to discover other people's opinions about political life and to then go forward and examine these opinions together. Differing viewpoints and opinions are inevitable and through politics we examine these opinions and should be able to find agreements within the discrepancies. In Arendt's opinion examining opinions together is doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Labor and work can be easily distinguished between by the products length of stay in the world. These things are unnatural, or artificial. Products, such as houses, desks and phones are examples of things constructed through work. The activity of work provides for a stable world and serves the purpose of creating durability. Unlike labor, works sole relation to providing viable living conditions results in the view of every thing and every person as a means to make the object. Through the activity of work, the end justifies the means. This results in people being treated as a means to an end instead of a unique person. In the world of work, one person is in charge and violence is acceptable. Arendt justifies the use of violence, particularly in relation to nature, by saying "the end justifies the violence done to nature to win the material, as the wood justifies killing the tree and the table justifies destroying the wood". Because products of work are so durable and have a long lifespan, they provide continuity with the past. Although work does not directly connect to the human condition of life, it does provide some rewards. Work provides pride and a sense of accomplishment. According to Arendt, work can "provide self assurance and satisfaction, and can even become a source of self–confidence throughout life" (140). People are able to master nature and therefore master oneself. The highest reward of work however is the work of art. While it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Why Is Pride An Overvalue Of Jealousy Of Others? Pride, an extremely important concept in many cultures that inspires humility and obedience, is nearly universally known as one of the worst character traits a person can have as it is thought to be the cause of all sins. Self–centeredness on the other hand, commonly represented as simply working for oneself, is actually just a quality in all human lives that results from the simple fact that people can only experience the world from their own viewpoints. Although pride seems to be the cause of jealousy of others, in reality, pride is an overvalue of one's own accomplishments that only slightly affects one's view of others, whereas self–centeredness is the natural state of individuality that stifles the amount of empathy that one can feel for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As people can only view the universe from their current perspective, the lack of understanding about positions or people other than themselves in their current moment is understandable, although still a negative. Although rare, pride can have useful effects such as balancing out one's self–esteem and gaining contentedness in one's own work, but it can also be a detriment with its overvalue on personal achievements and the arrogance that that can cause. The reason that people are jealous of all above them and feel superior to all below them is because at the current moment in their life, they cannot truly feel what another person feels. With this distortion of the beliefs and positions of others, People, insecure in their own position in life and selfishly desiring to be above others, naturally disapprove of all others, especially if the people have not been in the others' situation. Although it supports the concept of solipsism, the belief that the rest of the universe is a figment of one's mind and there is only one conscious being in the entire universe, the concept of self– centeredness is more realistic for humans as, although some people think that they can truly empathize, they cannot feel another's emotions accurately and ... • 25. Generation Z By David Mccullough Essay David McCullough .David McCullough's speech and criticism of "Generation Z", the youth of the 21st century is justified and insightful. "Generation Z" allows special to become a purposeless term, prefers to win rather than achieve, and "Generation Z" is obsessed with superficial growth rather than internal prosperity. Mr McCullough Jr criticises the generation's uselessness in terms of wanting to be "special," he does so by showing why meaningless accomplishment undermines actual major achievements. From everyone receiving the same participation trophy, which undermines the winners 1st place trophy, stated on June 5, 2012 line 1 to 2 paragraphs 5. "You see, if everyone is special, then no one is. If everyone gets a trophy, trophies become meaningless. In our unspoken but not so subtle Darwinian competition with one another–which springs, I think, from our fear of our own insignificance, a subset of our dread of mortality." The ideology of equality in consideration to achievement, is harmful to society in every way. It undermines serious achievement which prompts good men to stop wanting to achieve anything. It would put the world at an intellectual standstill were nothing new is ever made but repackaged and sold at a higher price. Which brings the question as to why generation z isn't special, it is due to their narcissism and lack of will to accomplish. Generation Z millennials have developed an utter curse for seeing accolades more than actual achievement or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Traditional belief states that religion followed the development of civilization, yet German archaeology professor Klaus Schmidt believed that religious belief led to the development of agriculture and civilizations. The ancient people of these ancient civilizations have proven to be capable of the same mental capabilities as modern people today through their display of cultural practices in actions of expression like art and technology. In order to maintain the cosmic order of the universe referred to as "ma'at," Egyptians labored in huge numbers to build monuments like the Pyramids of Giza. • 31. The Between Glaucon And The Socrates All the philosophers had great theories and ideas behind each of their believes and theories. One of the greatest well–known philosophers was Plato. His ideas and believes were deeper than the human eye. Plato believed our soul consisted of three parts logical, spirited, and appetitive. He believed in order for us as humans to find happiness, all three parts of our soul needed to be in harmony. As explained in this statement: We become unhappy when the three parts of ourselves are constantly fighting against one another so that we lack inner harmony, and we fall victim to vice when we are ruled by our emotions or desires. In one of the dialogues between Glaucon and the Socrates we understand the deeper level of his theories. I find his believes and thoughts very interesting as he helps us understand the way our inner emotions and reason could at times reflect on the humans we become on our day to day lives. He explains how we can become a slave to our own emotions and desires. When we allow emotion to take over we disregard our logic, which reflects on our response to life and decisions. This theory has helped me understand a deeper level of myself in a different perspective. When a person or human does not allow logic to direct the other parts of our soul we can fall into making irrational decisions. Plato believed until we linked the three parts of the soul together as humans we would not be in harmony or become satisfied. As humans we will never find full satisfaction ... One person might add that life is not worth living if you have nothing. It's up to the people to make their own lives more valuable and enjoyable. Life is a journey and you never know what you will experience. A friend of mine once stated, "What's the point of living if you don't have any goals."This bold statement has a good and bad side. The good side to this is that, my friend was right that we should focus on our goals. The bad side is that some people are just too stressed or nervous to even think about the future. I feel as if they are focusing on the present and each day is another obstacle for them. Why should someone commit suicide just because they have no goals? Trophies used to represent a token of accomplishment. However, their value has diminished with the widespread usage of participation awards. Instead of inspiring the impressionable youth to become more skilled in a particular sport as trophies once did, these mementoes serve as a reminder to a memory rather than a symbol of true achievement. The awards are causing the youth of the world to become lazy and undriven to push themselves to accomplish their goals. The topic of participation trophies have been heavily featured in The New York Times' online forum, "Room for Debate." Several individuals from different walks of life voiced their opinion on the matter. Although their usage can be beneficial in certain scenarios, participation awards are doing more harm than good by encouraging young athletes to remain idle in their skill progression. Ashley Merryman claims in her article "Forget Trophies, Let Kids Know It's O.K. to Lose," that young athletes need to understand the importance of focusing on process and progress, rather than results and rewards, which convey that losing in real life is horrible. She also states that contrary to popular belief, research has proven that trophies and awards do not have positive or negative effects on one's self–esteem. It was over 350 years ago that a cell was first discovered by humans. Now, scientists have mapped the entire genome of humans and even other organisms. Why might this be important? With this accomplishment, scientists can now peer into a person and see their genetic makeup or rather their "identity." This information in hand, scientists can find genes for specific traits or abnormalities. However, with this technology, there are ethical problems that are associated with it. Should humans have the power to select what genes an offspring should have and if so what specific genes can they alter? Should humans have the power to "play God?" These questions indeed are difficult to answer. Regardless, this issue must be addressed for the unborn children who will be involved in this ongoing controversy. Many people may not realize this, but genetic modification has already taken shape. A process known as in vitro fertilization (IVF) has aided numerous people who have had difficulty in fertility. Many years ago, the idea of a women getting pregnant through artificial insemination was a far cry from being feasible. The technology and science was not advanced enough to perform something as delicate and complexed as this. Even so, the development of IVF has created many people who could not have been born through traditional needs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mountains, depicted by Kerouac and Barthelme, rise above the American landscape as majestic entities whose peaks are touched by few enduring and brave souls. Morley's decision to stay behind while Japhy and Ray continue their climb to the peak of Matterhorn is comparable to Barthelme's depiction of the crowd on the streets watching cynically as their hero climbs to the golden castle of the glass mountain. This crowd symbolizes the growing middle class, comfortable in their conformity as "working stiffs" and homemakers who do not want to risk their current contentment for a chance to reach the heights of American capitalism. Morley is content to remain a "dreaming spot by the little lake" in the eyes of Ray Smith who is miles ahead on the mountain questioning his own decision to tackle the frightening height of the Matterhorn. (p.82). Morley represents, through his actions, Americans living comfortably, yet always dreaming "the American dream" to be more successful, powerful, or rich as he says "I don't think I can make it. Ill wait here" (P. 81). The plateaus in the "Glass Mountain" are equally represented by small cubicles inside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
