2. Cinematography:
Rule of thirds (space to talk into)
Mid shot or medium close-up
Off centre
Eye level
Camera on tri-pod
Shallow focus on subject
Close-up to show facial expressions, sometimes a slow zoom.
3. Mise-en-scene:
C- Costume
L- Lighting
A- Actors (Movement and Expression)
M- Makeup
P- Props e.g. person sat down on chair.
S- Settings, these are relevant to the person or the topic of documentary,
they will be in either homes, work places or relevant locations to the topic.
4. Graphics:
Superimposed over the top of interviews.
Two lines, the person’s name and their relevancy below.
The name will be big and bold while their relevancy will be small and fit
underneath the name.
The same font is used for both and needs to have some relevance to the
person or topic.
The font also must be easy to read.
They are shown the first time the interviewee is shown and not any other
appearances by the person.
5. Editing:
Cutaways, these will be footage relevant to the topic or archive footage (not
been filmed by the maker of the documentary and no more than 30 seconds
used in the documentary).
They help to keep audience interest so the audience isn’t watching someone
just talk.
They can also be used as transitions between speakers.
They can also be used to cover a question being edited out and hide jump
cuts.
All questions must be edited out.
