Avatar is set in a futuristic world where humans can inhabit other planets. The film's technology was not available when originally planned for release, so the director James Cameron delayed production until the technology, particularly 3D, was advanced enough. Throughout the film, action shots are used frequently during riding, hunting, and battle scenes to build tension. Close up shots are used at the beginning to show characters' reactions to becoming Avatars. High angle and sky shots from cranes are used in flying and battle scenes. The film depicts a clash between the modern human civilization and the indigenous Avatar people, though they coexist in the same time period.

Avatar essay
1. Avatar essay
Avatar isbased upon being set around the idea being set in a very futuristic
world, giving theidea of being able to liveon different planets and being able
to go to normally inhabitableplanetsthat arebased of being for humans, but
with it being set in thestyle of a futuristic world, giving it thesense that in
the modern world it is set, in their presence they have thecapability to create
thingsthat won’t be around by years and years to come, like thereis a high
chancethat most people who are alivenow, won’t have the chanceto see
thisset technology changeas it won’t be happening for a huge amount of
time.
It is said that Avatar wasoriginally planned to bereleased years before it
actually, but therelease/production of thefilm was actually delayed many
years as the director of the film‘James Cameron’ said that he believed the
technology needed to be able to createthefilm in the way he wanted too
wasn’t availableat that set time, so he waited until thetechnology was
availableto make the filmwith the 3D material that Cameron wanted to
includein the making.
There is a heavy use of action shotsthroughout thewholeof the film, these
are especially used when they are riding animals/when they are
hunting/training and also the battletowardstheend of the film where there
is a heavy use of action shots especially when they are running through the
forest, this helps to build tension more during thefinal battleand helps to
keep people on the edge of their seat when they are viewing the film.
At the start of the filmit includessome close up shots, thisis especially
shown for a few seconds when the real main charactersareintroduced into
the film, thisis also shown when they first switch over into their Avatar
bodies they make theuse of close ups, which helps to show their reactions
once they are switched over into their avatar bodies, the face fromtheir
reactionswhen they are first transferred into their Avatar form. During the
final battlethereis also the use of upper close up shots especially also when
the ‘Tree of souls’ is destroyed by the army, the faces r shown of the some
more important Avatarsi.e. the leadersof the Avatars.
During thefilm, especially when they are flying and also when they are
fighting in the final battletheuse of high angel shots and sky shots, these
2. shots would have been doneusing a crane and a harness were the camera
man would have been lowered and he would of filmed from a high angel
which can be shown from theflight scenes and some of the scenes fromthe
final battleespecially when they are fighting up in thesky and also shown
when they arebattling through theforest.
Although thefilmis clearly set around it being based in a more modern set
world, you kind of get theset presence that it is coming from two different
timeframe worlds as the weapons for the humans compared to theAvatars
are significantly more enhanced, as theweapons from the humans are clearly
from a morefuturistic, whereasthe weapons fromAvatar peoplegive the
sense that they arefrom a more olden timed world. So it is as if too
civilisationsarefighting but decadesapart. This is one of the main thingsthat
kind of give u the initial sense that it is two different worldsfighting but
actually it isset in the same timeand world sense.
