The presence of commonalities in human information processing has emerged from decades of
research into widespread use of decision heuristics by individuals. Tversky & Kahneman (1986)
demonstrated how individuals violate normative decision rules by employing decision heuristics
(e.g. representativeness, availability, and anchoring) to solve complex problems. These cognitive
aspects of decision making play a primary role in the investment selection decision process when
weighing up the benefits and costs from choice. These cognitive biases that arise have been oft
ignored by researchers in favour of the expected utility theory (Von Neuman & Morgenstern 1994).
This study discusses a key cognitive bias in loss aversion and how it is expressed in financial

The Novel Legend, There Are A Wide Variety Of Characters...
In Marie Lu's dystopian book Legend, there are a wide variety of characters with varying and
backgrounds. Although the tale follows the lives of young girl June and outlaw Daniel (nicknamed
Day), many side characters are also introduced and developed throughout the course of the book.
All of these characters possess interesting names that enhance the plot in certain ways, and while
most of the characters' names fit them, some do not.
To begin with, the name of the main character June refers to the month of the same name, which in
turn was named for the Roman Goddess Juno. Furthermore, the exact meaning of Juno is not fully
known, but it may be related to an Indo–European root that translates to "youth". Additionally, Juno
was the queen of the heavens in Roman mythology. She was also the protectress of women and
marriage, as well as the goddess of finance. June's name does a good job reflecting her personality,
and matches many of her actions during the novel. To begin with, June is rather young at the point
in time in which this story takes place, being about fifteen. However, the "protectress" quality
functions as the central plot point in the book. Although June does not protect specifically women or
marriage, she strongly believes in protecting what is right, and the shift in what she perceives as

Yet despite being embarrassed in the beginning, I gradually became accustomed to it and got

narrative that explains how Daniel came to be in King Nebuchadnezzar's royal court and his rise to

future and the kingdom of God. The book of Daniel implies that Daniel was its author in a few key
passages, such as 10:2 and 12:4. Jesus Christ also attributed to this indication via the quote "Daniel
the Prophet" in Matthew 24:14. In questioning of the original date for the composition of the book,

A big part of Ishmael's problem with humans is that we're selfish with our planet. We'd rather
destroy our planet to benefit our needs than try to tame our requirements. "You've been doing what
you damn well please with the world. And of course you mean to go right on doing what you damn
well please with it, because the whole damn thing belongs to you." (Page 61) Throughout the book,
Ishmael brings up humans using the world to their own advantage and not caring what or who gets
hurt in the process. I feel like this is one of Quinn's greatest examples of what we're blind to. We
don't realize that our oceans, our forests and wildlife and our environment aren't actually ours. This
is another example of humans thinking they're the top of the ecosystem and using the world because
it "belongs to us." We realize that we're ruining habitats and using an excessive amount of resources,
but we do nothing to stop it. We ruin our world but don't get that we need our world. We've created a

he speaks of our cognitive System 1 and System 2 ways of thinking. System 1 generates feelings,
impressions, and memory. It is very instinctive, automatic, and is considered quick thinking. System
2 on the other hand, is alert during complex problem solving, while dealing with facts and
knowledge, and is attentive while working with difficult calculations. For example, a problem such
as 24 x 13, this takes more time and knowledge to figure out (System 2), rather then recognizing an
emotion from face expressions (System 1). When System 1 is strained, your System 2 steps in to
help you process through that specific instant. Now aside from the psychological portion of this
book, Mr. Kahneman divulges about a consolidated economic analysis with elemental intuitions
from the psychological perspective; such as, luck and skill, overconfidence, risks in the stock
market, factors of success and the decision making process. This book is overall concluded with the
understanding of behavioral economics, which is the social and cognitive components on economic

Complexity in American Education Control Often times, we hear the words complex and
complicated used interchangeably. In fact, out of curiosity, I highlighted the two words in Microsoft
Word after typing them in the previous sentence and looked at the synonyms provided. Oddly
enough, complex is synonymous with words such as multifaceted and intricate. Yet, when I pulled
up the synonyms for complicated, complex was the first word listed. What is complexity? How does
it differ from complicated issues? Complicated systems are exactly what Microsoft Word said. They
are multifaceted and intricate. They have several parts, but there is only one determined way for

controls American education? More importantly, who should control American education?
My obvious choice would be the teachers, but after much debate, I'm not sure that is the best
solution. Whoever controls what should be taught in public schools also chooses what morals and
behaviors to teach students. I can remember as a child, teachers would tell my mother that they
wished they had a whole classroom of kids like me. Sure, I was bright. But more importantly, I was
quiet and well–behaved. Not all teachers think this way, but a majority would rather have students to
not speak or move during class. Is that what we want the future of America to be? I don't know
about you, but I want to raise a generation that will stand for what they believe in, form their own
opinions, and think critically.
Don't get me wrong. I don't believe it is the intention of any teacher to actually constrain a child
from obtaining the education they want. But with the standards they have to meet and the laws in
place, it makes teaching easier to have cooperative students. As Ishmael says in Daniel Quinn's

I have been riding horses for 5 years and over the course of the five years, I have ridden at 3
different barns and ridden nineteen different horses. I have finally found the horse love of my life
and found the best friends anyone could ever ask for at the last barn that I find myself there as much
as I can and spend almost everyday I have there in the summer. The horse I am currently riding is
the craziest but one of the sweetest horses you'll ever meet. This past year me and Stormy competed

David Hume's most famous quote is "Reason is, and ought only to be the slave of the passions, and
can never pretend to any other office than to serve and obey them." To understand the implications
of this quote as a basis for an ethical theory you need to understand that every other ethical theory

relations of ideas perceived by reason, to value judgments perceived by emotions, are made in
Hume's opinion with no logical reason. There is nothing contradictory in the statement the sun will

morning. The scientific method uses inductive reasoning to construct a hypothesis and Hume does

If Defoe read The Pilgrim´s Progress he may have adopted the way of thinking of life as a journey.
Moll is not an allegory, but it is evident that in this novel we find the idea that by trying to influence

Holmes became a medical student at the University of Michigan ("H.H." 1). This is when he started
to steal human bodies and experiment on them. This is when people started to heed and pay very

old when they moved to Chicago. In 1871, he left his job and started a firm with John Root, who
later helped start the ideas of what to do with the fair that led to H.H. Holmes's killing to increase
("Hudson" 1). John Root was born on January 10th, 1850, in Lumpkin, Georgia (Larson 20).
Burnham was the the one who handled the clients and business aspect of the firm and Root was the

Name:
The names Daniel and Ezekiel are similar in the fact that they were both taken from Hebrew and

The difference, however, is when we look at how. In Ezekiel, Christ is pictured in parables such as
the tender sprig which is very similar, and thus reminds us, of the Branch from Isaiah 11, Jeremiah
