Compare And Contrast O. J. Simpson And The Burden Of Proof
O. J. Simpson was not found guilty of murder but was found liable (the equivalent of guilty) in the wrongful death case. "The reason for that is that
the murder case was in the criminal system and the wrongful death case was a civil action" []. "For reasons such as different laws, procedures and a
different burden of proof, it was possible for one jury not to convict O. J. of the murder charges and another jury to hold him responsible for the civil
trial." []
The 2 court systems are very different. "The differences lie in different laws, the different court system and different burdens of proof." The criminal
cases that involve the murder have to be done with much precision and mistakes are not allowed. In order to convict in the criminal court, the case
against the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The burden of proof (in the civil case was a preponderance of the evidence) required is much less than it is in a criminal case.
In cases when a criminal jury may fail to find enough evidence to convict the accused and acquits the person, a civil jury could reasonably find "by a
preponderance of the evidence that a defendant's unlawful conduct results in civil liability." []
"A civil jury managed to find him guilty of the 2 murders committed, whereas a criminal jury was not able to find beyond a reasonable doubt that he
committed such vile crimes." [] "The outcomes legally don't contradict each

Oj Simpson : A Tragic Hero Of O. J. Simpson
Famous celebrities are loved and adored by people in society, but many of the celebrities we loved are now recognized as tragic heroes. Tragic
heroes that started off amazing and ended up with a downfall like death, prison sentence or troublemaking due to alcohol and drugs. One of these well
known celebrities are O.J. Simpson is considered a tragic hero. The talented football sensation Orenthal J. Simpson is a tragic hero because he was
known to be violent and made bad choices, leading to accusations of murder.
To begin with, Orenthal J. Simpson was well known and liked by many people. At around two years of age Orenthal had contacted rickets. He had to

FBI suspected him of drug possession though no drugs were found in the house. FBI did find equipment that could steal satellite television
programming and was sued. Orenthal married Nicole Brown in 1985 and had two children together, Justin and Sydney. Later on in the
relationship Nicole complained about the relationship to her friends a lot and even stated that Orenthal was physically abusive. One time a fight
between Nicole and Orenthal escalated that Orenthal threatened to kill Nicole, and later on said that it was nothing. Nicole finally filed for a
divorce in 1992. On June 12, 1994 Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found stabbed to death outside her condominium in Los
Angeles and evidence pointed to O.J. Simpson. He was forced to surrender by 11 a.m. on June but he fled then was tracked down on Santa Ana
Freeway. Orenthal had possession of a gun, his passport, $9,000 in cash and even had a disguise and stated he was running. In October 2008
Simpson was guilty of 12 counts of armed robbery and a kidnapping with Clarence Stewart. Although Orenthal recently got released due to parole on
October 1st, 2017, attorneys in Florida didn't want Orenthal to go back to Florida after all the events.
In conclusion, Orenthal is a tragic hero that will not be forgotten as he now walks a free man in Nevada. He started as a hero that was loved and

Standard Of Proof In The O. J. Simpson Case
When a person commits an act that is illegal and causes financial loss to others, that a person potentially exposes him or herself as the criminal and
civil liability. This can lead to two separate and distinct tests, which can be surprisingly different results. The most famous case of dual criminal and
civil litigation occurred in the mid–90s, when O.J. Simpson was charged with murder. After O.J. was acquitted in the criminal proceedings, the
victims' families filed a lawsuit in civil court, claiming, O.J. is responsible for the wrongful death of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. While the
jury in a criminal case does not return a guilty verdict, the jury in the civil case found O.J. responsible for the deaths of the victims and ordered to pay
millions of dollars to the families.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, although in both cases deal with the same problem (as O.J. kill Simpson and Goldman?) There is a different standard of proof in criminal and
civil trials. To be guilty of a crime, the prosecution must show "beyond reasonable doubt" that the defendant committed the act. This is the highest
standard of proof in our legal system. However, to be responsible in a civil suit, the plaintiff need only show a "preponderance of evidence" . This
means that more likely than not that the defendant committed the alleged act. This is considerably below the level of evidence. Therefore, although
the lawyers OJ managed to create reasonable doubt in the minds of the criminal jury more committed if he murder, they were unable to convince a
civil jury that it was more likely that he was not involved in the death of the

The O. J. Simpson Trial
The story of Orenthal James Simpson is one for the books of history. The O.J. Simpson murder trial is the case that is considered to be the most
publicized case ever to touch the earth. This case especially is remembered for having the world, and most of all, this country at odds. For months,
people would only talk about, whether O.J. Simpson was guilty or not guilty. But before anyone can make that decision of O.J. Simpson being guilty or
not, readers must look at the evidence and most importantly, how this case was conducted.

glove that was found at the crime scene which was later tested to prove that the glove had both victims blood on it and O.J.'s DNA ("OJ Simpson,"
n.d.). Then there was droplets of blood found on O.J.'s Ford Bronco vehicle. Also, there were droplets of blood, leading into the suspects house, as
well as a pair of bloody socks, that were tested and matched Nicole Brown Simpson's blood ("OJ Simpson," n.d.). Lastly, there was a shoe print,
size 12, of specific shoes that O.J. Simpson also owned and wore the same size found at the crime scene (Banks, 2017) . All the evidence looked
promising and made prosecutors think, O.J. Simpson would go away for sure. On the day of June 17th, 1994, a warrant was sent for O.J. Simpson's
arrest. O.J. didn't make it easy for law enforcement to catch him. Instead O.J. went on a high speed chase in his Ford Bronco, with his friend driving
Al Cowlings, for more than two hours ("OJ Simpson," n.d.). Once law enforcement was able to catch up to O.J. at his house, they arrested him and
took him into custody. On January 23, 1995, the trial of O.J. Simpson began ("OJ Simpson," n.d.) . No one knew it would take 8 months to prove

Tragic Hero: O.J. Simpson
Throughout time there have been an abundant amount of well–respected individuals who have let their flaws lead to their downfall. O.J. Simpson is a
prime example of a tragic flaw leading to a downfall. O.J. Simpson was a luminary football player and actor who let his tragic flaw of anger and
jealousy get the best of him. His tragic flaw led him to a life of crime including the alleged murder of two people, robbery, and kidnapping.
At a young age, Simpson told his mother, that he would be in the paper one day, which his little sister would respond with, "In the police report." Not

in 1967 and 1968. During these appearances, Simpson scored thirty–five touchdowns and gained 3,265 yards rushing within twenty–two games. In
1968, he earned himself the Heisman Trophy ("O. J. Simpson." Contemporary). At USC, he was an All–American halfback and this is where he gained
all of his fame ("O.J. Simpson." Biography.com). Pete Axthelm, a sports writer for Newsweek stated, "O.J. . . . has done more than his share . . . He
has led the Trojans, inspired them, and when necessary carried them." ("O. J. Simpson." Contemporary). He inspired many, set NCAA football records
and took his football career to the next level ("O.J. Simpson." Biography.com).
Simpson moved on to the National Football League draft, where the team with the worst record gets to choose first. Simpson was then granted the
opportunity to play for the Buffalo Bills for part of his NFL career. In February of 1969, Simpson obtained the name of Sports Magazines "Man of the
Year". This made him the first college student to have received this honor ("O. J. Simpson." Contemporary).

The OJ Simpson : The Case Of O. J. Simpson Case
America's infatuation with criminal cases and the convictions of convicts set the scene for shows like Criminal Minds and Law and Order. My
fascination with these cases started when I was a little girl. I would research cases and trials constantly; it is the reason I want to become a criminal
lawyer. The fact that one person could be sentenced to life in prison or even death based on the beliefs of 12 people is astonishing. My favorite kind
of cases were the high profile ones. The ones that make the people involved really think about the circumstances. I remember sitting on the couch
watching some of theses trials go down like the murder of Caylee Anthony. I want to share these cases so people can form their own opinions from the
most famous cases around the world.
Crime happens everywhere we look, just watch the news for example. We believe that none of it could never happen to us, and that we are always
protected. Although we think this, for these families it is reality. Our compassion and prayers can only do so much to help them. The pain that they are
feeling can only be replaced by the conviction of their loved one's killer. Whether or not they are guilty must be put in the hands of the criminal justice
system.
The O.J. Simpson Case One of the most notorious cases in history is the case of O.J. Simpson. O.J. Simpson was a wealthy and successful football

Essay On O. J. Simpson Double Homicide
A rich famous athlete with plenty of money to hire the best lawyers and manipulate the
judicial system to be found not guilty of a double homicide. This well–known athlete is O. J.
Simpson. The victims of the double homicide were Nicole Brown Simpson, O. J.'s ex–wife, and
Ronald Goldman. Did O.J. Simpson really commit the double homicide? To this day, this is a
controversial question. Kidnapping a friend in an attempt to flee and threatening to kill himself
all before even being arrested and accused for the crime, testimonies kept from the jury, along
with other significant evidence are sure signs that O. J. Simpson should have been found guilty
of the double homicide.

This team of lawyers were able to pick the perfect jury needed for their not
guilty verdict. Also, the team of lawyers did a great job of manipulating the evidence into O. J.'s
favor or even having it dismissed from the trail. In fact, all points made above and the evidence
provided yet not allowed in the trial clearly prove O. J. Simpson was guilty of the double
homicide of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.
If O. J. Simpson was not so famous and didn't have the ability to pay his "dream team" of
lawyers over $20 million dollars he would have inevitably been found guilty of this double
homicide. This team of lawyers used every opportunity to manipulate and tear down the
prosecution's case that clearly proved O. J Simpson was guilty. The hair, fiber, and blood
evidence were proven to be O. J.'s but not allowed to be used against him. A confession is
normally used to prove a normal person guilty, but not if you are rich and famous with plenty of
money. O. J. Simpson was guilty of this double homicide and if he was a normal person this
verdict would have been short and

DNA fingerprinting is important in many different fields of study today, including forensic science. One case in which DNA fingerprinting was
especially important was the O.J. Simpson case. According to New York Times in 1994, if the DNA tests were done correctly they "could establish
Mr. Simpson's innocence or convince a jury that he is guilty." Basically, testing Simpson'sDNA and comparing it to the DNA found at the crime scene
could greatly sway the jury's decision on whether Simpson was guilty or not. This case was a very famous and popular, so introducing DNA
evidence in a trail like this would bring much attention to the methods of DNA testing and how accurate the results were. Before this case took place,

When fame becomes a driving force to make decisions in society, crimes turn to be permissible. Chicago is popular with its criminal activities and
with the number shootings, level of corruption and human rights violations Chicago always gets top positions in the charts. Fortunately, most of
those criminals are caught and quickly sentenced to an appropriate penalty. However, when it comes to the case of people who have a certain fame,
things become more complicated. Often, the trials are being postponed and the time it takes for juries and judges make a decision prolongs. As a
result, the defendant who is a celebrity or a political figure gets away with his charges. Robert Kelly, Rod Blagojevich and Orenthal James Simpson

Therefore, they are psychologically pressured to make a decision to advantage them. A British sociologist Benjamin Kidd, in his book "The
Science of Power" mentions that "emotion rather than reason is held to be the source of power in life" (Kidd, 1918). The emotion is what creates
the hoax of power. The juries are emotionally judging that the person in front of them, who is also socially or politically famous, has more power.
However, they ignore the fact that the general decision makers are the juries and they have a higher power to decide the future of the artist. The
illusion of power has also worked on cases of O. J. Simpson, R. Blagojevich, and R. Kelly. Because of the fact that they are nationally well–known,
they are also creating the appearance that they have an enormous power. However, in physical terms, the power that they own is only the number of
fans that follow them or know about them. In legal terms, they have no power of changing the results of a decision. Unfortunately, psychology had an

A Superhero Or A Murderer?
A superhero or a murderer?
Orenthal James (O. J.) Simpson was an American football player, actor (first in commercials and later in movies), athlete and broadcaster. He was
born 9th of July 1947 in San Fransisco, California. Simpson is now 69 years old and has been in jail since 2008, charged with armed robbery and
kidnapping. But the most interesting of all is whether he did or did not kill his wife and a good friend of hers.
O. J. Simpson is a son of Eunice Simpson and Jimmy Lee Simpson. They got divorced in 1952. Eunice, his mother, was left all alone with her four
children, she worked in a hospital and had often night shifts, which led to that Simpson, his brother and two sisters had to take care of themselves
often, in the evening and throughout the night. His father was gay and was well known as the drag queen in the San Fransisco area. O. J. grew up
in the Potrero Hill district, he didn 't have a great childhood ( almost nobody in that district either). When he was 13 years old he joined a gang. O. J.

went to O.J.'s estate home they found multiple evidence such as blood all over his white Bronco, hairs of his on Ron's shirt, and even footprints of
Simpson's shoe size. Was the United Statesjustice system so corrupt and prejudice to the point that they let a guilty man free just because of his social

A Summary Of The Primary Source Analysis Of O. J Simpson
Primary Source Analysis When it comes to court cases, there are always shortcomings but in the O.J. Simpson case there are substantial amounts of
inaccuracies. Court transcripts are documents of what took place in a court proceeding. In Jack Walraven's transcripts, they disclose the development in
the case of O.J. Simpson. Jack Walraven's transcripts were published on each day that they were intrial. Walraven published a transcript on the March

sat on the witness stand and testified for O.J. Simpson. Lopez was Simpson's neighbor's housemaid who, According to the transcripts, said that at the
time that the murder happened when she was outside walking the dog. The prosecutors often said that she was a "difficult witness." The transcript
discusses how she would often change her stories. Lopez indicates that she took the dog out for a walk usually around seven. Then later in the hearing
she changes her story and says that on this particular day she took the dog out at ten at night. After Judge Ito postponed the hearing so that Lopez could
videotape the rest of her testimony so that she did not have to sit on the podium and feel pressured. In the video they notice some discrepancies, such
as she says that she saw his white bronco around eight–thirty and not at ten. The transcript illustrates how Ms. Lopez would often change her

In my opinion, the Detectives did what they thought was the right to do, they saw blood spots on the car, they took in their hands to do what they
thought was right, and that was to jump over the fence and make sure everyone was okay. Additionally, warrants are not always needed to come
into a persons home, especially when we think someone might be in danger. As soon as this happens, O.J. Simpson is the one responsible for the
double murders. Before going into trial there are pretrial procedures. An arrest has to be made which implies that there is enough evidence of crime.
An arrest can be made with or without a warrant. In the series, O.J. Simpson is arrested for the murders due to finding evidence of the bloody gloves
and not having an alibi. After the arrest, an initial appearance where the defendant is informed of charges and reaffirms of his rights, such as to remain

Race Issues In The O. J. Simpson Trial
There was a time when Orenthal James Simpson was a very respected running back for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers, he was
nicknamed "The Juice," and was inducted into the National Football League Hall of Fame in 1985. But O.J. is most famous for the People of the State
of California v. Orenthal James Simpson, murder trial. During the case, many issues regarding race affected the people's emotions toward his verdict,
and his innocence. With the evidence there was racial controversy, activity in the courtroom, and the verdict itself.

Simpson was said to be innocent, because of the jurry's decision. But the jurry's decion was weighted to a certain side, because of the race problem
at the time. There were twelve people in the jury, and most of them were minorities. Acconding to Famous Trials, The jury constisted of nine blacks,
one hispanic, and two whites. As well as, ten of the people being women, and two being men. These different statistics had many different effects
toward the verdict that O.J. Simpson recieved. With the time period, and the race issues at the time, there were different reactions with different race

Life Without Laws
Lawless Imagine a world in which laws were non–existent. Stop signs wouldn't exist, you would never have to wear a seatbelt and you would never
get pulled over for speeding. You wouldn't even have to worry about paying your taxes. Do you think a life without laws or rules would be easier?
Laws are set in place for everyone in society to maintain balance and order. While it is infeasible to live in the world without rules or laws, it is very
possible to be above the law. This essay aims to display the disparity of how the law applies to regular people versus celebrities, police, and politicians.
No matter how much we'd all like to admit it, celebrities play a role in our everyday lives. We love to watch movies with our favorite actors, and
listening to music by our favorite singers. Social media and Magazines practically do nothing but talk about the lives of celebrities, mostly praising
the way they dress and handle their daily lives. Celebrities are everywhere. They are put on a major pedestal and even seem to get by with things that
normal people would not. Celebrities seem to have a sort of immunity. All kinds of celebrities have been involved in criminal acts, but almost always
receive a more lenient punishment. Sentencing varies from traffic school, rehab and anger management. It is commonly known that the law is often
quite sympathetic to famous people that commit crimes. Most get a slap on the wrist. The O.J Simpson trial is an example of how famous

The O. J. Simpson Murder Case
In the post–modern world as well as multicultural facets of criminology and justice, various correlations are involved in the process. Through
post–Marxism, postfeminism, post–affirmative and post–structuralism dimensions, multiple variables like gender, race, class and even age are
important in understanding the handling of cases in the system (Bellis, 2007). The explanations based on crime and control of the same make sense and
differences in the correlations, despite the perspectives on the school of thoughts. The famous O. J. Simpson murder case is one of the many examples
that can be used to drive the literature sense into perspective. The case was a trial held with the suspect being responsible for his ex–wife's death, as

Did O. J. Simpson Really Do It?
On June 12,1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were murdered. Their bodies were discovered outside Nicole Simpson's
condominium. Nicole Simpson was the estranged wife of the famous football player and T.V. star O.J. Simpson. Did O.J. Simpson really do it? That
question has caused a lot of argument and controversy. Before the arrest of O.J., he was involved in a car chase with one of his buddies. Simpson
was suppose to turn himself into the police but instead he kidnapped his friend in his truck and tried to flee threatening to kill himself while his buddy
was driving the vehicle. The media quickly got involved in this car chase and they got some of Simpson's friends to talk him into just turning himself

does not have an alibi, and that was the hour of the murder. He simply just says that he was home alone and leaves it at that. Defense attorney,
Johnnie Cochran, tells the jury that O.J. was playing golf at the time of the murders, while O.J. says he was just napping. When O.J. was late for
his limo, he told the limo driver that he overslept, but the driver saw a large figure about 6 ft 2 inches tall dressed in black, walk into the entrance
of Simpson's home at the time O.J. said he was asleep. The limo driver said he rang O.J's doorbell for 20 minutes and nobody answered but once he
saw the black figure go into O.J.'s home, O.J. answered the ringing of the door bell. "Simpson's defense also claimed that a neighbor's housekeeper,
Rosa Lopez, saw his car parked outside his home. However, Lopez later confessed during cross–examination that she could not be precisely sure
whether or not his Bronco was there." (101 Pieces of evidence that prove O.J. Simpson murdered Nicole. March 23, 2017)

been rebuked. All of the cases of whites being exonerated for crimes against blacks, and all of the blacks seemly convicted unjustly, were rectified
in this verdict. Of course that was not reality, today there are still police officers going free, and the prisons all disproportionally filled with black

How Race, Class, And Gender Influences Domestic Violence
How Race, Class, and Gender Influences Domestic Violence
Dennis Garcia
Montclair State University
Abstract:
Domestic violence has become a very controversial crime in the United States. Although domestic violence has been around for many years, society
now sees it as a threat to our homes. This type of crime is unique because it's a nondiscriminatory crime; it can happen to anyone at any time. Domestic
violence is also a dark figure crime, which means that it is a crime least reported to the police. In this paper, I discuss how race, class and gender
influence domestic violence. I begin with briefly discussing the different types of abuse within domestic violence and the two types of restraining
orders that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The violator can physically, mentally and even economically abuse the victim. In some cases, the perpetrator can abuse victim(s) by pushing,
punching, and threatening them with sexual assault and more. Although there are restraining orders to prevent the perpetrator from getting near the
victim, domestic violence has been known for being a dark figure of crime. With that being said, Richard Davis stated in his book, "Americans have
historically objected to the government's attempt to legislate what they consider their private morality or family problems" (83). Several Americans
do oppose laws that violate their home privacy, but it is the government's job to keep its citizens safe from any danger, even if that danger is in a
household. According to mic.com, "the average percentage of domestic violence that is not reported is 70%, which means that only 30% get reported".
There are many reasons why victims don't report the abuse. Some victims may feel that by reporting the crime, the situation would only get worst.
Others may be scared that the perpetrator would involve them in the situation and murder or hurt them. Regardless of the excuse, Americans have been
increasing the number of cases by not reporting it to the authorities. If more cases were reported, then the topic would be of more importance to
Washington D.C., where legislator could put a stop to it. In contrary, some reported cases that were reported to the authorities

O. J. Simpson Case Study
NFL culture The prosecution built their case against Simpson with various incriminating bits of evidence. This evidence included 85 pages
documenting 50 domestic violence incidents over the course of 17 years were presented (CORA, 2015). The strategy of the prosecutors was to
demonstrate that the murders were a logical culmination of increasingly abusive, obsessive behavior (Noble, 1995). This evidence did not match up
with the crime, according to an interview from Time in which Rita Smith, the Executive Director of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence
during the time of the murders. Smith suggested that jurors asked, "Why were they talking about domestic violence when this is a murder trial?"
(Alter, 2014). During this time, the connection between domestic violence and murder was not seen as a realistic outcome. During the trial, prosecutors
and domestic violence organizations were struggling to promote a general understanding of domestic violence to the public (Alter, 2014). A lack of
understanding the connection between domestic violence and murder was by far not the only factor of Simpson's acquittal, but it may have had
something to do with the disregard of this evidence. "The research suggests that professional athletes are rarely formally charged with crimes related to

The O. J. Simpson Case
The O. J. Simpson murder case was a criminal trial held at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, in which the former NFL star and actor O. J.
Simpson was trial on two counts of murder for the deaths of his ex–wife Nicole Brown, and a waiter named Ronald Goldman. The O.J. trial could be
seen as a historical lens and cultural lens as well. The reason why I use those two perspectives was because; in history the black people has been
treated as non–human, criminals, and properties. And in a culture perspective, black people are racial discriminated and profiled which plays a
huge part in the OJ Simpson trial. The trial and case of O.J. Simpson has been described as one the most publicized criminal trial in all of
American history. The OJ Simpson trial could be seen as cultural perceptive because how they framed OJ based on his nationality. OJ Simpson

greatness by labeling him as a murder instead of an idol. Three years before the trial of OJ Simpson there was a huge riot in Los Angeles about four

when he was at the peak of his career to when he was on trial for the brutal murder of his ex–wife, Nicole Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
The trial that shocked the country is still referred to today as "the trial of the century" and will continue to hold that title as this trial had an indefinite
effect on our judicial system and how money and fame influence verdicts. Regardless if someone believes he's innocent or guilty, why is this trial still
discussed today with as much controversy and conviction it held in 1991? Before Simpson was remembered only for this infamous trial he was a
prolific athlete, role model, and someone whose background and upbringing beat the odds. Understanding the rise and fall of O.J. Simpson through his

Compare And Contrast Tragic Heroes And Oj Simpson
Twenty–first–century athletes are often given the hero–status that in the Renaissance era was saved for the political leaders and warriors of their time.
Athletes are often highly paid, highly publicized, superior in their athletic ability, and famous for their charisma. The fans follow their every
movement both on their stage (the playing field) and in their private lives as well. This is why on June 13, 1995, when the world learned of the
horrific murders of Nicole Brown Simpson (former wife of O.J. Simpson) and Ronald Goldman, people were shocked and a media circus ensued as
the public learned that one of their heroes, O.J. Simpson was the suspected murdered in this gruesome crime. Despite bearing some superficial
differences, the similarities between O.J. Simpson and Shakespeare's tragic heroes are remarkable.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Heroes are made in the hour of defeat. Success is, therefore, well described as a series of glorious defeats." Gandhi's
quote is an excellent example of many modern and tragic heroes. Even though Shakespeare constructed heros centuries ago, traits of a modern hero are
still similar to ones referred to during the renaissance era. Athletes of today are put on a pedestal similar to the role of a hero. When the media
displays athletes they expect them to be held to the same standards of a hero when in reality they are just normal humans. The former NFL running

Analysis Of O. J : Made In America
The ESPN series "O.J.: Made in America" is a documentary of the notable rise and fall of Orenthal James (O.J.) Simpson, which captivated the nation
and is still discussed today [over 20 years later]. Simpson's life story and infamous 1994 double–homicide acquittal is paralleled with race relations,
and the criminal justice system in Los Angeles in the decades leading up to the "trial of the century". The main objective of the documentary does not
seem determine whether Simpson is 'guilty' or 'not guilty', but rather to consider the effect of racial issues in the U.S. criminal justice system that how
they played into the trial. While the documentary primary leads to, and surrounds the infamous trial, it also illustrates the concepts and ideals of the
country that both made and destroyed him. The Orenthal James Simpson story is both a representation of the American Dream and an American "True

American Dream. At the peak of his success he was considered an American hero and example of racial equilibrium, due to his wide acceptance by the
white community. America loved him both on and off the field prior to the murder. To outsiders, he appeared to have "everything" quintessential to the

Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, "is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment." (thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial,
as its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it
rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are
many who are against the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric because many innocents have
been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today's world because there is access to
DNA tests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, "Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information all living cells in the
human body need to function. They also control the inheritance of characteristics from parents to offspring." (interpol.int). DNA profiling play
important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to place a suspect at the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can
help to prove a suspect's innocence. With DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the death penalty simply because DNA tests can be used as
concrete evidence to prove the suspect's innocence.
To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for prosecution.

Justice In The O. J. Simpson Trial
The O.J. Simpson trial was an emotional, time consuming, battle where one side consisted of the families of two murdered people, and the other
of a famous athlete and actor alongside his defense team, that kept the world glued to their seats in front of their television screen. I believe that
there was no justice in this case. Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman lost their lives and no one was put in prison to pay for these murders, yes,
Simpson had to pay a large sum of money to the families of these two victims, but was the money really enough? Orenthal James Simpson, was born

the murders Simpson had a cut on his middle finger. The bloody shoe prints matched a size 12 Bruno Magli shoe and Simpson wore a size 12 shoe.

These claims raised the question that the DNA samples were contaiminated or not valid. It also raised the possibility that the blood from O.J
Simpson could have been planted by the investigators. The defense argued that the cut found on Simpsons middle finger was not large enough to
bleed the amount of blood found at the crime scene. Simpson claimed that he reinjured his finger in his hotel room the mornin after with a piece
of glass. Possibly the biggest peice of evidence was that the bloodstains on the paper wrapping was supposed to be holding only dry blood samples
not wet. When it comes to the shoes the defense argued that thousands of people have bought those shoes in size 12 and that it does not directly
put Simpson at the crime scene. The hair found at the scene were black and coarse but all that means is that the attacker could have been black but
the samples had no dandruf or skin cells on them to prove that they were Simpsons. The blue fibers could have been from a blanket used to cover
Nicole Simpsons body at the crime scene. The glove behind guest house was thought to be planted by Detective Mark Fuhrman, a racist cop trying to
frame Simpson for the murder and that the blood on glove may have also been planted by police. The defense also claimed that the bloody socks
found at the crime scene were planted by police during the investigation. Simpson tried on the gloves from the crime scene which did not fit. The
defense challenged the DNA results reverting back to the theory that the samples were handled poorly. The investigation team also found that there was
genetic material of a third party on the steering

O.J. Simpson's Criminal and Civil Trials: Different Standards of Proof

  • 1. Compare And Contrast O. J. Simpson And The Burden Of Proof O. J. Simpson was not found guilty of murder but was found liable (the equivalent of guilty) in the wrongful death case. "The reason for that is that the murder case was in the criminal system and the wrongful death case was a civil action" []. "For reasons such as different laws, procedures and a different burden of proof, it was possible for one jury not to convict O. J. of the murder charges and another jury to hold him responsible for the civil trial." [] The 2 court systems are very different. "The differences lie in different laws, the different court system and different burdens of proof." The criminal cases that involve the murder have to be done with much precision and mistakes are not allowed. In order to convict in the criminal court, the case against the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The burden of proof (in the civil case was a preponderance of the evidence) required is much less than it is in a criminal case. In cases when a criminal jury may fail to find enough evidence to convict the accused and acquits the person, a civil jury could reasonably find "by a preponderance of the evidence that a defendant's unlawful conduct results in civil liability." [] "A civil jury managed to find him guilty of the 2 murders committed, whereas a criminal jury was not able to find beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed such vile crimes." FBI suspected him of drug possession though no drugs were found in the house. FBI did find equipment that could steal satellite television programming and was sued. Orenthal married Nicole Brown in 1985 and had two children together, Justin and Sydney. Later on in the relationship Nicole complained about the relationship to her friends a lot and even stated that Orenthal was physically abusive. One time a fight between Nicole and Orenthal escalated that Orenthal threatened to kill Nicole, and later on said that it was nothing. Nicole finally filed for a divorce in 1992. On June 12, 1994 Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found stabbed to death outside her condominium in Los Angeles and evidence pointed to O.J. Simpson. Orenthal had possession of a gun, his passport, $9,000 in cash and even had a disguise and stated he was running. In October 2008 Simpson was guilty of 12 counts of armed robbery and a kidnapping with Clarence Stewart. Although Orenthal recently got released due to parole on October 1st, 2017, attorneys in Florida didn't want Orenthal to go back to Florida after all the events. • 3. Standard Of Proof In The O. J. Simpson Case When a person commits an act that is illegal and causes financial loss to others, that a person potentially exposes him or herself as the criminal and civil liability. This can lead to two separate and distinct tests, which can be surprisingly different results. The most famous case of dual criminal and civil litigation occurred in the mid–90s, when O.J. Simpson was charged with murder. After O.J. was acquitted in the criminal proceedings, the victims' families filed a lawsuit in civil court, claiming, O.J. is responsible for the wrongful death of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. While the jury in a criminal case does not return a guilty verdict, the jury in the civil case found O.J. responsible for the deaths of the victims and ordered to pay millions of dollars to the families.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well, although in both cases deal with the same problem (as O.J. kill Simpson and Goldman?) There is a different standard of proof in criminal and civil trials. To be guilty of a crime, the prosecution must show "beyond reasonable doubt" that the defendant committed the act. This is the highest standard of proof in our legal system. However, to be responsible in a civil suit, the plaintiff need only show a "preponderance of evidence" . This means that more likely than not that the defendant committed the alleged act. This is considerably below the level of evidence. Therefore, although the lawyers OJ managed to create reasonable doubt in the minds of the criminal jury more committed if he murder, they were unable to convince a civil jury that it was more likely that he was not involved in the death of the ... Simpson murder trial is the case that is considered to be the most publicized case ever to touch the earth. This case especially is remembered for having the world, and most of all, this country at odds. For months, people would only talk about, whether O.J. Simpson was guilty or not guilty. But before anyone can make that decision of O.J. Simpson being guilty or not, readers must look at the evidence and most importantly, how this case was conducted. There was a bloody glove that was found at the crime scene which was later tested to prove that the glove had both victims blood on it and O.J.'s DNA ("OJ Simpson," n.d.). Then there was droplets of blood found on O.J.'s Ford Bronco vehicle. Also, there were droplets of blood, leading into the suspects house, as well as a pair of bloody socks, that were tested and matched Nicole Brown Simpson's blood ("OJ Simpson," n.d.). Lastly, there was a shoe print, size 12, of specific shoes that O.J. Simpson also owned and wore the same size found at the crime scene (Banks, 2017) . All the evidence looked promising and made prosecutors think, O.J. Simpson would go away for sure. On the day of June 17th, 1994, a warrant was sent for O.J. Simpson's arrest. O.J. didn't make it easy for law enforcement to catch him. Instead O.J. went on a high speed chase in his Ford Bronco, with his friend driving Al Cowlings, for more than two hours ("OJ Simpson," n.d.). Once law enforcement was able to catch up to O.J. at his house, they arrested him and took him into custody. On January 23, 1995, the trial of O.J. Simpson began ("OJ Simpson," n.d.) . • 8. The OJ Simpson : The Case Of O. J. Simpson Case America's infatuation with criminal cases and the convictions of convicts set the scene for shows like Criminal Minds and Law and Order. My fascination with these cases started when I was a little girl. I would research cases and trials constantly; it is the reason I want to become a criminal lawyer. The fact that one person could be sentenced to life in prison or even death based on the beliefs of 12 people is astonishing. My favorite kind of cases were the high profile ones. The ones that make the people involved really think about the circumstances. I remember sitting on the couch watching some of theses trials go down like the murder of Caylee Anthony. I want to share these cases so people can form their own opinions from the most famous cases around the world. Crime happens everywhere we look, just watch the news for example. We believe that none of it could never happen to us, and that we are always protected. Although we think this, for these families it is reality. Our compassion and prayers can only do so much to help them. The pain that they are feeling can only be replaced by the conviction of their loved one's killer. Whether or not they are guilty must be put in the hands of the criminal justice system. The O.J. Simpson Case One of the most notorious cases in history is the case of O.J. Simpson. O.J. How Race, Class, And Gender Influences Domestic Violence How Race, Class, and Gender Influences Domestic Violence Dennis Garcia Montclair State University Abstract: Domestic violence has become a very controversial crime in the United States. Although domestic violence has been around for many years, society now sees it as a threat to our homes. This type of crime is unique because it's a nondiscriminatory crime; it can happen to anyone at any time. The violator can physically, mentally and even economically abuse the victim. In some cases, the perpetrator can abuse victim(s) by pushing, punching, and threatening them with sexual assault and more. Although there are restraining orders to prevent the perpetrator from getting near the victim, domestic violence has been known for being a dark figure of crime. With that being said, Richard Davis stated in his book, "Americans have historically objected to the government's attempt to legislate what they consider their private morality or family problems" (83). Several Americans do oppose laws that violate their home privacy, but it is the government's job to keep its citizens safe from any danger, even if that danger is in a household. Regardless of the excuse, Americans have been increasing the number of cases by not reporting it to the authorities. • 30. O. J. Simpson Case Study NFL culture The prosecution built their case against Simpson with various incriminating bits of evidence. This evidence included 85 pages documenting 50 domestic violence incidents over the course of 17 years were presented (CORA, 2015). The strategy of the prosecutors was to demonstrate that the murders were a logical culmination of increasingly abusive, obsessive behavior (Noble, 1995). This evidence did not match up with the crime, according to an interview from Time in which Rita Smith, the Executive Director of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence during the time of the murders. Smith suggested that jurors asked, "Why were they talking about domestic violence when this is a murder trial?" (Alter, 2014). During this time, the connection between domestic violence and murder was not seen as a realistic outcome. During the trial, prosecutors and domestic violence organizations were struggling to promote a general understanding of domestic violence to the public (Alter, 2014). A lack of understanding the connection between domestic violence and murder was by far not the only factor of Simpson's acquittal, but it may have had something to do with the disregard of this evidence. • 31. The O. J. Simpson Case The O. J. Simpson murder case was a criminal trial held at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, in which the former NFL star and actor O. J. Simpson was trial on two counts of murder for the deaths of his ex–wife Nicole Brown, and a waiter named Ronald Goldman. The O.J. trial could be seen as a historical lens and cultural lens as well. The reason why I use those two perspectives was because; in history the black people has been treated as non–human, criminals, and properties. And in a culture perspective, black people are racial discriminated and profiled which plays a huge part in the OJ Simpson trial. The trial and case of O.J. Simpson has been described as one the most publicized criminal trial in all of American history. The OJ Simpson trial could be seen as cultural perceptive because how they framed OJ based on his nationality. OJ Simpson was a former running back in the NFL and is considered one of the greatest running back in NFL history, earning him a Hall Of Fame induction. He was widely recognized as the "juice" because how dominant he was on the field. On the other hand his murder trial in 1995 has foreshadowed his greatness by labeling him as a murder instead of an idol. The trial that shocked the country is still referred to today as "the trial of the century" and will continue to hold that title as this trial had an indefinite effect on our judicial system and how money and fame influence verdicts. Regardless if someone believes he's innocent or guilty, why is this trial still discussed today with as much controversy and conviction it held in 1991? Before Simpson was remembered only for this infamous trial he was a prolific athlete, role model, and someone whose background and upbringing beat the odds. Understanding the rise and fall of O.J. Most of those people who were stuck in the shadows, if asked at this moment what was of the year 1968, would probably just remember the triumphs of Orenthal James Simpson. Inequality was still at its peak in history and those few black athletes who created names for themselves were expected to speak out, but O.J. Likewise, in "Invisible Man" segregation was apparent and always associated with the life of the protagonist from the beginning of the novel. • 35. Compare And Contrast Tragic Heroes And Oj Simpson Twenty–first–century athletes are often given the hero–status that in the Renaissance era was saved for the political leaders and warriors of their time. Athletes are often highly paid, highly publicized, superior in their athletic ability, and famous for their charisma. The fans follow their every movement both on their stage (the playing field) and in their private lives as well. This is why on June 13, 1995, when the world learned of the horrific murders of Nicole Brown Simpson (former wife of O.J. Simpson) and Ronald Goldman, people were shocked and a media circus ensued as the public learned that one of their heroes, O.J. Simpson was the suspected murdered in this gruesome crime. Despite bearing some superficial differences, the similarities between O.J. Simpson and Shakespeare's tragic heroes are remarkable. Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Heroes are made in the hour of defeat. Success is, therefore, well described as a series of glorious defeats." Gandhi's quote is an excellent example of many modern and tragic heroes. Even though Shakespeare constructed heros centuries ago, traits of a modern hero are still similar to ones referred to during the renaissance era. Athletes of today are put on a pedestal similar to the role of a hero. When the media displays athletes they expect them to be held to the same standards of a hero when in reality they are just normal humans. The former NFL running back O.J. Simpson, which captivated the nation and is still discussed today [over 20 years later]. Simpson's life story and infamous 1994 double–homicide acquittal is paralleled with race relations, and the criminal justice system in Los Angeles in the decades leading up to the "trial of the century". The main objective of the documentary does not seem determine whether Simpson is 'guilty' or 'not guilty', but rather to consider the effect of racial issues in the U.S. criminal justice system that how they played into the trial. While the documentary primary leads to, and surrounds the infamous trial, it also illustrates the concepts and ideals of the country that both made and destroyed him. The Orenthal James Simpson story is both a representation of the American Dream and an American "True Crime Story". The documentary began by showing O.J. as a shadow of his former self. Prior to the 1994 trial, Simpson exemplified the of the American Dream. At the peak of his success he was considered an American hero and example of racial equilibrium, due to his wide acceptance by the white community. America loved him both on and off the field prior to the murder. • 37. Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay Capital punishment, or the death penalty, "is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment." (thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today's world because there is access to DNA tests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, "Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information all living cells in the human body need to function. They also control the inheritance of characteristics from parents to offspring." (interpol.int). DNA profiling play important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to place a suspect at the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to prove a suspect's innocence. With DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the death penalty simply because DNA tests can be used as concrete evidence to prove the suspect's innocence. To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for prosecution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It also raised the possibility that the blood from O.J Simpson could have been planted by the investigators. The defense argued that the cut found on Simpsons middle finger was not large enough to bleed the amount of blood found at the crime scene. Simpson claimed that he reinjured his finger in his hotel room the mornin after with a piece of glass. Possibly the biggest peice of evidence was that the bloodstains on the paper wrapping was supposed to be holding only dry blood samples not wet. When it comes to the shoes the defense argued that thousands of people have bought those shoes in size 12 and that it does not directly put Simpson at the crime scene. The hair found at the scene were black and coarse but all that means is that the attacker could have been black but the samples had no dandruf or skin cells on them to prove that they were Simpsons. The blue fibers could have been from a blanket used to cover Nicole Simpsons body at the crime scene. The glove behind guest house was thought to be planted by Detective Mark Fuhrman, a racist cop trying to frame Simpson for the murder and that the blood on glove may have also been planted by police. The defense also claimed that the bloody socks found at the crime scene were planted by police during the investigation. Simpson tried on the gloves from the crime scene which did not fit.
