Feeling suicidal or having attempted suicide was associated to have received profesional counselling.
There a strong sense that only another HIV positive individuals could truly understand another HIV positive individuals. Therefore, HIV positive indviduals felt that receiving counselling from another HIV + individuals would have been the most benefitial As the future seems uncertain at time of diagnosis, counselling with an HIV positive counsellors could have provided individuals with true insights of what the years ahead would look like.
This is from someone who saw a psychiatrist but he felt that he had to educate her about how it is to live with HIV.
