The Influence Of Sexual Assault On College Campuses
Sexual assault has become an ongoing problem across the United States, especially on college
campuses. It is not uncommon for one to expect a female dressed scandalously or a male under the
influence to experience sexual assault. There is no known definition of consent or when consent is
given that leads to this increase in sexual violence. Many cases and stories have risen where the
victim of these crimes are not taken seriously or given proper respect when dealing with the
situation. The victims are stereotyped, used as the root of jokes, mocked in the media, and are not
taken seriously. Sexual violence is a serious matter that our society denies as a real issue resulting in
a lack of regard for the victims and poor handling of the situation by medical ... Show more content

In order to improve the legal procedures and the general process of a sexual assault crime, societies
denial of the sexual violence issue must be changed to respect the victim and the situation they have
been forced into. One issue with sexual violence and assault is that there is not a definite
understanding of consent. While many are aware of consent and have a general idea of when
consent is given, there is still a grey area people are caught in that can lead to misunderstandings
and assault–like situations. If someone were to break into a house and rob it, there was no one there
to tell them no they cannot rob this house (Kimmel and Steinem 435). This is what the grey area is
like when it comes to consent. No one technically said no, do not steal my things, so does that make
it okay? The concept that "unless one

Prohibition and the Effect on America
From the beginning of the 20th century multiple political organizations and the federal government
have fought to control alcoholism in America. I chose to do prohibition because the fact that the
action taken by the federal government in order to form a better society has led to an explosion of
criminal offences in the past as well as today. The effects of prohibition consistently offer a hand in
the shaping of American culture. Full–fledged black markets and organized crime groups both offset
the supposed benefits of prohibition. Today, teenagers often turn to the underage consumption of
alcohol to make them seem "cool," or as a form of rebellion against parental and governmental
authorities. The temperance movement acted as a predecessor to the prohibition of alcohol in the
1920's. The temperance movement relied heavily on the efforts put forth by the Women's Christian
Temperance Union (WCTU) and the Anti–Saloon League. The WCTU lead thousands of women
united against alcohol to make great pushes against alcoholism; they introduced an anti–alcohol
education into schools, and led protests for laws regulating and banning alcohol. The Anti–Saloon
League used "the saloon must go" as the war cry of their "moral crusade" against the production,
sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Both groups blamed alcohol for issues in society,
issues in the home, and the wretched living conditions found in the immigrant slums. Together these
two groups pushed America into

Dominic Lascuola's Stand-Up Comedy Actor Seth Rogen
Dominic Lascuola's Not Plagiarized Paper
Actor Seth Rogen, born on April 15, 1982, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, rose to fame in
his twenties as one of the comedy icons of his generation. He began his career performing stand–up
comedy during his teenage years, winning the Vancouver Amateur Comedy Contest in 1998. Rogen
and his comedy partner Evan Goldberg co–wrote the films Superbad, Pineapple Express, This Is the
End, and directed both This Is the End and The Interview; all of which Rogen starred in. He has also
done voice work for the films Horton Hears a Who!, the Kung Fu Panda film series, Monsters vs.

It seems that some of this stuff isn't being labeled as totally legit, so I'm going to add more. A
talented voice artist, Rogen is in the animated films Horton Hears a Who! (2008),Kung Fu Panda
(2008), and Monsters vs. Aliens (2009), and has voiced characters forThe Simpsons (1989) and
American Dad! (2005). What a guy, he does voice acting too. he landed his first role in Judd
Apatow's short–lived but well regarded TV series Freaks and Geeks (1999), taking on the role of
Ken Miller. Though the show only lasted one season, it was the launching pad for many careers,
including Rogen, Apatow, James Franco, and Jason Segel. This early work sharpened Rogen's keen
improvisational skills, which he's used on many projects since. His breakthrough came when
Universal Studios greenlit him for the lead in yet another Apatow production: Knocked Up (2007), a
romantic comedy that follows the repercussions of a drunken one–night stand between his slacker
character and Katherine Heigl's just–promoted media personality that results in an unintended
pregnancy. Upon completing The 40–Year–Old Virgin, Apatow had approached Rogen about
potential starring roles, but the actor suggested

Vlad III would become an inspiration for the original Dracula.
Bram Stoker wrote the novel Dracula in 1897, and it became the prototype, not only for Dracula, but
for all vampires to follow. Stoker described Count Dracula as having a bushy mustache, a large
nose, and hair that protruded in all directions. This Dracula seemed to resemble today's werewolves
rather than today's vampires, seeing as he also had pointy ears and hair in the palms of his hands.
Although no actual written proof exists, it is theorized that Bram Stoker's Dracula was modeled
after Walt Whitman, who was a personal hero of Stoker's (Nuzum). While vampires today look

of vampires. In the novel, Dracula ventured to England from his home in Transylvania so that he
could find new victims and bring more people into the world of the undead. He had superhuman
strength, didn't see his reflection in the mirror, and used his charm to unleash his reign of terror. His
strength and other supernatural qualities, like being able to defy gravity or use telepathic skills, are
believed to have started by his interactions with the devil. Bram Stoker created a new genre, which
is something that is very difficult to do. He created a new archetype and a whole new supernatural

at Valley Youth Theatre, as well as in their comedy improvisation group, throughout middle school,
adding up to 16 productions in total (IMDb Editors, "Emma Stone Biography"). She also received
private lessons from an acting coach. Stone was homeschooled for 7th and 8th grade before attended

My First Day Of High School
rst days are always nerve racking. Whether it is the first day back to school, or the first day at a new
job. But nothing is more terrifying then your first day of high school. And you can quote me on that.
I remember my first day of high school like it was 3 and ½ years ago. I had a horrible night's sleep. I
woke up to the sound of my alarm buzzing by my head. Hauling my lifeless and tired body out of
my bed, I put on my glasses as I made my way to the bathroom. I did my usual morning routine,
knowing that this time was different. This was leading up to my first day. Finishing up, I returned to
my bedroom where I had laid out my uniform nice and neat (something that I wouldn't do for the
next 3 and ½ years). I had my crisp and clean white polo shirt, my lovely grey pants, and most
importantly, my navy colour vest with the school logo on it. As I put on my uniform, I knew I was
one step closer to walking through the doors of high school. After a quick look in the mirror, I made
my way downstairs to the kitchen, where my parents were sitting. Grabbing a bowl and a spoon, I
poured myself some cereal and milk (most likely Froot Loops). Could this be my last bowl of
cereal, or was I completely over exaggerating what may happen to me in high school? I would soon
find out.
Instead of taking the bus on the first day of school, I had my parents drive me. Why? Because that's
the coolest way to start off your high school career. So I threw on my black dress shoes and got into
the car with my parents. It felt like a long car ride, and I was nervous the whole way. We finally
reached the parking lot and parked the car. We sat there for a moment, my parents clearly seeing my
nervousness, and when I realized this, I laughed a little and decided it was time to say our goodbyes.
That is when I grabbed my backpack and I stepped out of the car. Before I tell you what happened
next, I should explain how pop culture misconstrues the idea of high school. Watch any movie or
television show about high school and you will see people being pushed into lockers, wedgied, and
pranked in many other terrible ways. There always seems to be a guy who is 7 feet tall and 300
pounds, ready to completely destroy any freshman's that cross his

Another development of character in the sequence is that of Ramona. It isn't until further in the film
that Ramona's character is completely revealed but in the sequence her character is first presented
through the short interaction between her and Scott. She is quite abrupt towards Scott when he
introduces himself which clearly intimidates Scott, causing his display of foolishness in the
interaction. Ramona's character is then further developed after she leaves the party in the film
through Scott quizzing people about details regarding Ramona. This is all second–hand information
but it does establish some assumptions towards the mystery and history Ramona's character.
Audience positioning:
The focus of the sequence is Ramona so throughout it the audience is positioned to be interested and
inquisitive towards Ramona like Scott is. As previously discussed this positioning reveals aspects of
both Ramona's and Scott's character which is important for the development of the story.
Thematic issues: The thematic issue observed in the sequence is the inner conflict that Scott
experiences regarding his commitment for his current girlfriend contrasting with his new obsession
with Ramona. This thematic issue is important for the narrative of the film as it develops the
characters of Scott, Knives and Ramona. The purpose

My Dreams
There are not many times in someone's life where the pain and fear is unbearable to handle. No one
knows what your feeling on the inside, but they say they do. The first time that someone experiences
the real world, it is the most uncomfortable feeling ever. It was 4.30 A.m and I had a bad dream. As
a 5 year old child, I always went to my mom after I had a bad dream and relied on her for comfort.
This bad dream was particularly scary and I didn't know what to do. I went to my mom's room and
when I touched her she began shaking in agonizing pain––something was wrong, I screamed, and I
ran into my room and hid under my covers. I felt tears running down my face and chills flooding in
on my arms and legs. Then I heard sirens and I tried to drown them out, but they kept ringing in my
ears for what seemed like forever. All I could feel was fear while we were driving to the hospital. I
couldn't envision happiness in my life, not even if I won a million dollars. The hospital was cold and
had a weird smell that did not comfort me. I went into my mom's room and she looked fine but I
knew something wasn't quite right. I asked right away " What's wrong mommy." She responded in a
very sad voice, " I have brain cancer." I didn't really know what brain cancer was but I knew it was
really horrifying.
It's hard to Imagine having the most important person in your life be sick and not be able to be with
you. As a 5 year old child I couldn't comprehend what had just happened to me.

African American Music Research Paper
American music is a tapestry of different colors coming together to make one beautiful picture.
African–American music has had a major influence in the music of today.
"From the lyrical cries of black street vendors in 18th–century Philadelphia to the infectious dance
rhythms of the Motown sound, African–American music has been heard at all times and in every
corner of America. This particular part of this article shows you the elements and eras of music we
will be talking about." ("The History On African–American Music").

Hip–Hop is not only for men but is also for women. "Women have also played a role in the shaping
of rap music. Rap artists such as Queen Latifah and the group Salt–N–Pepa represent a growing
number of female rappers who speak for the advancement of black women in American society.
Queen Latifah has emerged as a critic of male dominance in the music industry and sexist images of
women presented by some male rap artists." ("Rap") "Queen Latifah became the first solo female
rapper to receive mainstream radio play. Salt–N–Pepa became the first female rap group to go
platinum and they paved the way for female artists such as Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and group TLC."
"However, rap music did not reach a broad audience until 1980 when the Sugar Hill Gang's song
"Rapper's Delight" received widespread radio play. As rap groups assembled during the decade, they
began to use their art to describe the harsh realities of inner city life. Unlike early rap music, which
was generally upbeat and exuberant in tone, the rap style of the 1980s displayed a strong racial and
political awareness. Toward the end of the decade, rap came to express an increasing sense of racial
militancy." ("Rap") Rap wasn't really popular until Sugar Hill Gang became popular with their

The Great Dictator ( 1940 ) And The Interview ( 2014 )
Many films that make a mockery of dictators have been released over the years, but two of those
films stand out for how accurate their parodies are in reality, that stands up to a known oppressor.
These two films are The Great Dictator (1940) and The Interview (2014). These two films share the
comedic twist of Classical Hollywood Narrative to outline their story. Unlike many other films
mocking a dictator these two films create a parody of a known figure in modern history to
demoralize each despot for the good of the oppressed society. Outside of the film itself, they share a
severe backlash upon release that involves bombings, cyber–attacks, and bans on both films. The
following discussion will examine how the similarities in the techniques employed by each
filmmaker during development helped to strengthen each film's satiric impact, while also causing
each film to incur a similarly harsh and violent reception upon debut.
By 1938 Chaplin was one of the greatest writers, directors and actors in the film industry, well
known for his socioeconomic and political satire within The United States. He felt so confident in
his ability in mocking the world's most dangerous man that he was willing to spend $1.5 million of
the $2 million budget. The two differences in this later film from his earlier work were the
introduction of sound in films and the disappearance of his reoccurring protagonist "The Little
Tramp". Chaplin's use of sound in this film was a huge factor in history, not

Persuasive Essay On Legal Immigration
Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. It is an important
action that will continuously affect the future of the United States. The act of coming into the
country is needed for positive change of the world. Because it boosts the economy, mixes cultures,
and keeps families together, legal immigration should be allowed. Immigration has been around for
thousands of years. It has been a key factor in boosting the United States' economy. Studies have
shown that various countries like Japan, which have a very little immigration rate, are facing a
numerous amount of economic problems. The majority of Japan's population is of old age.
Additionally, the country has a low birth rate. Because of the older population, less people are
working, meaning a negative effect on the economy. Therefore, immigration would boost the
economy by increasing the population, causing more people to get jobs. In the United States, there
are plenty of immigrants moving to the US, as well as natural born citizens.
The number of jobs in the United States is not fixed. As the U.S. population and labor force has
increased, so has total employment. Therefore, adding foreign workers to the economy does not
crowd–out employment for native workers. To the contrary, immigration generates growth and
employment opportunities by increasing the total number of people in the United States. A larger
population leads to increased consumption levels, higher demand, and more

The Legal Drinking Age Of America
It was a typical Saturday night working as a waiter. The dinner rush had just ended and I was
catching up on some side work. As I am refilling the salad dressings, the hostess informs me that she
had just sat a table in my section. After arriving at the table and introducing myself, I proceed to ask
for their drink orders. The first words articulated out the woman's mouth are spoken with a deep,
thick, Irish accent. I could not help but acknowledge it and after chatting for a few minutes, I come
to learn that they had just arrived from the airport and are vacationing in Florida for two weeks.
After taking both parents drink orders, I ask their son what he would like to drink. Like the true Irish
man he is, he asks me for a Guinness. He looked a little young to be drinking so I asked him for
some id. He hands me the id and it reads that he is only nineteen years old. I had to explain to them
that the legal drinking age in the United States was twenty one years old and I could see the look of
confusion in their face. The father tried quarreling with me that the law was stupid and since they
are allowed to drink their country, they should be allowed to drink here. Little did they know that
this issue is very personal to me. One of my good friends in high school was riding his bike one
night and was hit and killed by an underage drunk driver. The look of confusion was wiped from
their face forthwith after telling them my story. The topic of changing the minimum legal drinking

and the boss was mean and that was supposed to be their comedic contribution. However when it's
not funny there's a lot of confusion and "Wait is she just being stupid and the other being a b!*ch?'.
There's this movie that everyone's watching with Danial Radcliff playing a dog walker with Marisa
Tomei...I have no idea what that was about but they did this joke twice and it sounds like crap
because it is and I just didn't get it. The story was waaaaay longer than it needed to be! My goodness
after Amy and Aaron get together we're just waiting for the plot to unfold something bad to happen
so Amy can realize she was wrong all this time and run back to Aaron and tell her she loves him!
Why does it take so long for this to happen? We know it's going to happen let's move it along! We
don't need all the soul–searching crap please let's just get to

Persuasive Essay Immigration
Immigration, the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. Immigration is a highly
important action to keep continuous for the future of the United States. It is important to keep in the
future or add to the future or other countries. Immigration is a major factor in many countries
because it boosts the economy, mixes cultures, and keeps families together, legal immigration
should be allowed. Immigration has been around for thousands of years. It has been a key factor in
boosting our country's economy. Studies have shown that various countries like Japan, which have a
very little immigration rate are facing a numerous number of economic problems. Japan's
population is very old and consists of a very low birth rate. Thus ... Show more content on

The increase of immigrants in the United States has increased the supply of labor, and money spent
on food, homes, goods and services. These various expenses having money spent on them more
often adds money to the economy allowing it to grow. The increase of this demand generates more
jobs to build homes, sell and make food, and to do the services. Increase of demand caused by the
incoming immigrants means a boosts in the economy of the country. Immigrants bring a wave of
talent and ingenuity, most immigrants that are educated, and graduate college with a great diploma
come to the US to live happily because America is the best country in the world in their perspective,
which means if they come here and get a job as a doctor at a hospital or an architect working in a
big company, they are spending money on stuff they need and want which makes the economy grow
and keep America great.
A study finds a significant increase in innovation–in fields that immigrants enter there is a 30%
increase in patents by domestic inventors. These benefits are driven at least in part by contacts
between immigrants and native inventors. One of the perks of immigrants coming to the US is that
American inventors get new sets of ideas and methods that they would use for their own work in the
future, that means immigrants are giving Americans some of their wisdom and experience for them
to use later on. Not only does immigration help improve the economy, but it also helps mix cultures

Spring Break Research Paper
My cousin Walker and I attended the great spring break tradition in Ft. Lauderdale. If I had to
explain spring break to another person, I would tell them. It's one week out of the year where you
get to live a fantasy. Thousands of college kids get together to party and take a break from being a
student. Students need a stress free week with no worries about grades, studying and finances. We
are almost full adults and this will be one of the last times we get to rebel as youth. Walker and I
were both minors but our goal was to be with all the kids when it came to the night life after
everyone on the beaches were gone. I did not know how I was going to get into a nightclub, but I
was not going to let my age from stoping me. The task before us seemed problematic, but you can't
be afraid to fail. Walker and I were staying in the W Hotel in a nice suite. My aunt and uncle were
across the hotel in another tower, so during the day we did excursions with the family, and at night
we were free men with no boundaries. We had been waiting for this opportunity since high school to
go to a big city and have the freedom to do things we saw in movies. ... Show more content on

Lauderdale had a massive and exotic nightlife. Neither my cousin nor I was 21, but we could not
miss out on this opportunity. We were prepared to do whatever it took to get into a nightclub. The
consequences of getting caught drink as a minor was astronomical for us, but we were welling to
risk. Maybe we were crazy but we were also determined. What were going to tell our friends when
we got back? "Yeah we rode segways and fished." I wanted a interesting story, with characteristics
of being juvenile and ballsy. Our grandkids could brag to their other friends about how cool we were
when we were their age. Walker and I was ready to take the bull by the

Humor And Its Effect On My Life
Humor is essential in order to live life to the fullest, and this is because of laughter. Laughing is so
imperative because "the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for
surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional
health" (Smith 1). Humor has been a huge part of my life because it has helped me out of countless
awkward situations, been apart of every inside joke, made bad times good, and good times better.
Although I enjoy mostly all humor, I associate my favorite types of humor with movies or videos.
Sarcasm is when someone uses irony or even mocking to make a joke. I find sarcasm to be
humorous because it tends to confuse others. Sarcasm can sometimes be misleading. In most cases
when sarcasm is used, the audience is unsure if you are actually joking or not. This typically gives
you a good laugh just by looking at their facial expressions. I am also fond of sarcasm because it is
an excellent ice breaker in uncomfortable situations. It allows one to get to know another person
quickly. If you use sarcasm you can tell if someone has a sensitive personality or a playful one. A
couple of of actors I find to have good sarcastic humor is Melissa McCarthy and Mathew Perry.
Melissa McCarthy stars in multiple movies and television shows such as The Heat and Bridesmaids.
I find her use of sarcasm in the movie The Heat to be specifically entertaining. Mathew Perry is
most sarcastic in the television show

The Importance Of Rape Culture
Enculturation is a gradual process by which individuals learn how to adapt to the norms within a
society. Social norms stand as principles that are understood by aggregate individuals to manage
their behaviours; therefore, culture is a set of accepted behaviours (Cachon, 2017). In the 1970's,
during the second wave of feminism, woman activists in the United States popularized the rape
culture approach (Cole, 2017). Rape culture is present in a society when rape and other forms of
sexual violence are fueled by social norms; normally, these acts are excused when committed by
men against women (Cole, 2017). The position of women within this domain is clear; "men
systematically target women for acts of sexual objectification, degradation, and abuse" (Ezzell,
2008). Women are submissive to a sexist society. One of the most powerful aspects of socialization
that provide a dominant male culture is the universal media (Ezzell, 2008). This paper will argue to
clearly identify the elements of rape culture while illustrating how today's media promotes it.
Rape Culture silences rape and sexual violence against women in the media and surrounding
popular culture when these attacks are standardized and pardoned (Ezzell, 2008). In today's society,
sexual assault jokes referencing rape culture are promoted throughout many films. More
specifically, in 2007, a comedy film by the name of Superbad was released. This movie revolves
around two high school best friends, Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan

The Influence Of Sexual Assault On College Campuses

  • 1. The Influence Of Sexual Assault On College Campuses Sexual assault has become an ongoing problem across the United States, especially on college campuses. It is not uncommon for one to expect a female dressed scandalously or a male under the influence to experience sexual assault. There is no known definition of consent or when consent is given that leads to this increase in sexual violence. Many cases and stories have risen where the victim of these crimes are not taken seriously or given proper respect when dealing with the situation. The victims are stereotyped, used as the root of jokes, mocked in the media, and are not taken seriously. Sexual violence is a serious matter that our society denies as a real issue resulting in a lack of regard for the victims and poor handling of the situation by medical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to improve the legal procedures and the general process of a sexual assault crime, societies denial of the sexual violence issue must be changed to respect the victim and the situation they have been forced into. One issue with sexual violence and assault is that there is not a definite understanding of consent. While many are aware of consent and have a general idea of when consent is given, there is still a grey area people are caught in that can lead to misunderstandings and assault–like situations. If someone were to break into a house and rob it, there was no one there to tell them no they cannot rob this house (Kimmel and Steinem 435). This is what the grey area is like when it comes to consent. No one technically said no, do not steal my things, so does that make it okay? The concept that "unless one ... • 2. Prohibition and the Effect on America From the beginning of the 20th century multiple political organizations and the federal government have fought to control alcoholism in America. I chose to do prohibition because the fact that the action taken by the federal government in order to form a better society has led to an explosion of criminal offences in the past as well as today. The effects of prohibition consistently offer a hand in the shaping of American culture. Full–fledged black markets and organized crime groups both offset the supposed benefits of prohibition. Today, teenagers often turn to the underage consumption of alcohol to make them seem "cool," or as a form of rebellion against parental and governmental authorities. The temperance movement acted as a predecessor to the prohibition of alcohol in the 1920's. The temperance movement relied heavily on the efforts put forth by the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) and the Anti–Saloon League. The WCTU lead thousands of women united against alcohol to make great pushes against alcoholism; they introduced an anti–alcohol education into schools, and led protests for laws regulating and banning alcohol. The Anti–Saloon League used "the saloon must go" as the war cry of their "moral crusade" against the production, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Both groups blamed alcohol for issues in society, issues in the home, and the wretched living conditions found in the immigrant slums. Together these two groups pushed America into ... • 3. Dominic Lascuola's Stand-Up Comedy Actor Seth Rogen Dominic Lascuola's Not Plagiarized Paper Actor Seth Rogen, born on April 15, 1982, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, rose to fame in his twenties as one of the comedy icons of his generation. He began his career performing stand–up comedy during his teenage years, winning the Vancouver Amateur Comedy Contest in 1998. Rogen and his comedy partner Evan Goldberg co–wrote the films Superbad, Pineapple Express, This Is the End, and directed both This Is the End and The Interview; all of which Rogen starred in. He has also done voice work for the films Horton Hears a Who!, the Kung Fu Panda film series, Monsters vs. Aliens, Paul, and Sausage Party. This guy is really funny; he has some super dope movies. Superbad and Pineapple Express are just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems that some of this stuff isn't being labeled as totally legit, so I'm going to add more. A talented voice artist, Rogen is in the animated films Horton Hears a Who! (2008),Kung Fu Panda (2008), and Monsters vs. Aliens (2009), and has voiced characters forThe Simpsons (1989) and American Dad! (2005). What a guy, he does voice acting too. he landed his first role in Judd Apatow's short–lived but well regarded TV series Freaks and Geeks (1999), taking on the role of Ken Miller. Though the show only lasted one season, it was the launching pad for many careers, including Rogen, Apatow, James Franco, and Jason Segel. This early work sharpened Rogen's keen improvisational skills, which he's used on many projects since. • 6. My First Day Of High School rst days are always nerve racking. Whether it is the first day back to school, or the first day at a new job. But nothing is more terrifying then your first day of high school. And you can quote me on that. I remember my first day of high school like it was 3 and ½ years ago. I had a horrible night's sleep. I woke up to the sound of my alarm buzzing by my head. Hauling my lifeless and tired body out of my bed, I put on my glasses as I made my way to the bathroom. I did my usual morning routine, knowing that this time was different. This was leading up to my first day. Finishing up, I returned to my bedroom where I had laid out my uniform nice and neat (something that I wouldn't do for the next 3 and ½ years). I had my crisp and clean white polo shirt, my lovely grey pants, and most importantly, my navy colour vest with the school logo on it. As I put on my uniform, I knew I was one step closer to walking through the doors of high school. After a quick look in the mirror, I made my way downstairs to the kitchen, where my parents were sitting. Grabbing a bowl and a spoon, I poured myself some cereal and milk (most likely Froot Loops). Could this be my last bowl of cereal, or was I completely over exaggerating what may happen to me in high school? I would soon find out. Instead of taking the bus on the first day of school, I had my parents drive me. Why? Because that's the coolest way to start off your high school career. So I threw on my black dress shoes and got into the car with my parents. It felt like a long car ride, and I was nervous the whole way. We finally reached the parking lot and parked the car. We sat there for a moment, my parents clearly seeing my nervousness, and when I realized this, I laughed a little and decided it was time to say our goodbyes. That is when I grabbed my backpack and I stepped out of the car. Before I tell you what happened next, I should explain how pop culture misconstrues the idea of high school. Watch any movie or television show about high school and you will see people being pushed into lockers, wedgied, and pranked in many other terrible ways. The first time that someone experiences the real world, it is the most uncomfortable feeling ever. It was 4.30 A.m and I had a bad dream. As a 5 year old child, I always went to my mom after I had a bad dream and relied on her for comfort. This bad dream was particularly scary and I didn't know what to do. I went to my mom's room and when I touched her she began shaking in agonizing pain––something was wrong, I screamed, and I ran into my room and hid under my covers. I felt tears running down my face and chills flooding in on my arms and legs. Then I heard sirens and I tried to drown them out, but they kept ringing in my ears for what seemed like forever. All I could feel was fear while we were driving to the hospital. I couldn't envision happiness in my life, not even if I won a million dollars. The hospital was cold and had a weird smell that did not comfort me. I went into my mom's room and she looked fine but I knew something wasn't quite right. I asked right away " What's wrong mommy." She responded in a very sad voice, " I have brain cancer." I didn't really know what brain cancer was but I knew it was really horrifying. These two films are The Great Dictator (1940) and The Interview (2014). These two films share the comedic twist of Classical Hollywood Narrative to outline their story. Unlike many other films mocking a dictator these two films create a parody of a known figure in modern history to demoralize each despot for the good of the oppressed society. Outside of the film itself, they share a severe backlash upon release that involves bombings, cyber–attacks, and bans on both films. The following discussion will examine how the similarities in the techniques employed by each filmmaker during development helped to strengthen each film's satiric impact, while also causing each film to incur a similarly harsh and violent reception upon debut. By 1938 Chaplin was one of the greatest writers, directors and actors in the film industry, well known for his socioeconomic and political satire within The United States. He felt so confident in his ability in mocking the world's most dangerous man that he was willing to spend $1.5 million of the $2 million budget. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Legal Immigration Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. It is an important action that will continuously affect the future of the United States. The act of coming into the country is needed for positive change of the world. Because it boosts the economy, mixes cultures, and keeps families together, legal immigration should be allowed. Immigration has been around for thousands of years. It has been a key factor in boosting the United States' economy. Studies have shown that various countries like Japan, which have a very little immigration rate, are facing a numerous amount of economic problems. The majority of Japan's population is of old age. Additionally, the country has a low birth rate. Because of the older population, less people are working, meaning a negative effect on the economy. Therefore, immigration would boost the economy by increasing the population, causing more people to get jobs. In the United States, there are plenty of immigrants moving to the US, as well as natural born citizens. The number of jobs in the United States is not fixed. As the U.S. population and labor force has increased, so has total employment. Therefore, adding foreign workers to the economy does not crowd–out employment for native workers. To the contrary, immigration generates growth and employment opportunities by increasing the total number of people in the United States. As I am refilling the salad dressings, the hostess informs me that she had just sat a table in my section. After arriving at the table and introducing myself, I proceed to ask for their drink orders. The first words articulated out the woman's mouth are spoken with a deep, thick, Irish accent. I could not help but acknowledge it and after chatting for a few minutes, I come to learn that they had just arrived from the airport and are vacationing in Florida for two weeks. After taking both parents drink orders, I ask their son what he would like to drink. Like the true Irish man he is, he asks me for a Guinness. He looked a little young to be drinking so I asked him for some id. He hands me the id and it reads that he is only nineteen years old. I had to explain to them that the legal drinking age in the United States was twenty one years old and I could see the look of confusion in their face. The father tried quarreling with me that the law was stupid and since they are allowed to drink their country, they should be allowed to drink here. Little did they know that this issue is very personal to me. One of my good friends in high school was riding his bike one night and was hit and killed by an underage drunk driver. Laughing is so imperative because "the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health" (Smith 1). Humor has been a huge part of my life because it has helped me out of countless awkward situations, been apart of every inside joke, made bad times good, and good times better. Although I enjoy mostly all humor, I associate my favorite types of humor with movies or videos. Sarcasm is when someone uses irony or even mocking to make a joke. I find sarcasm to be humorous because it tends to confuse others. Sarcasm can sometimes be misleading. In most cases when sarcasm is used, the audience is unsure if you are actually joking or not. This typically gives you a good laugh just by looking at their facial expressions. I am also fond of sarcasm because it is an excellent ice breaker in uncomfortable situations.
