Compare And Contrast Mesopotamian Religion And Royal Power
By juxtaposing the Mesopotamian and Egyptian religion and royal power, we can see how these two
different ascendancies acted similarly and antithetically as they both affected their people's
fabrications. These strong concepts, religion and royal power (starting around approximately the
early, ancient 3500 B.C.E.) compelled their people to follow their rulings. Mesopotamian &
Egyptian cultural architecture, writing/arts, and geographical location act as evidence to exhibit how
religion and royal power were sovereignties that influenced these creations.
The royal power and religion of Egypt and Mesopotamia both affect the architecture of their region.

Royal power evidently claims roots itself to land with high probability for survival. Just as so,
religion is intertwined into people and these people seed themselves into land that fits their needs.
Royal power is exhibited in Document 5 as it is map of the Old Kingdom, located in Egypt, around
2686 B.C.E. – 2181 B.C.E.. It depicts the capital of Memphis subjugating the fertile Delta as
civilizations usually obtain areas of land that show sign of prosperity. Evidently, this locations has
the natural barriers surrounding it which fortifies their defense as it prevents invaders from
attacking. Additionally, the river provides valuable resources which enables the populations to
proliferate. Similarly, Document 7 is a map, however during the Early Dynasty Period,
approximately 2400 B.C.E. It displays the independent city–states in Sumer Mesopotamia. This
shows how the majority of city–states populates around the two rivers. Also, the vast majority
ingrained their cities in between the two rivers, which acted like a barrier from invaders. This

Ancient Egypt And Gizeh Similarities
The great Ancient Egypt civilization is filled with magnificent architecture that made its culture rich.
The Stepped Pyramid by Imhotep, Mortuary precinct of Djoser 2630–2611 BC, and the Great
Pyramids of Gizeh 2490–2228 BC, are an important part of the Ancient Egypt culture. Also the Ka
and Maet played a vital role in making these monuments. Ancient Egyptians really cared about their
Pharaohs and Gods and did anything to keep them satisfied, even if it meant to carry a 2.5 ton block
up 450 feet. The Pyramids of Gizeh and the Stepped Pyramid have some similarities, many
differences, and have a major influence in keeping the Ka of the pharaoh happy .

Starting off, the Stepped Pyramid is the first pyramid made from permanent lime stone. In addition,
the Stepped Pyramid was made by a very respected artist Imhotep. Imhotep used fiance and engaged
columns in the stepped pyramid to give respect to the old architectures, and the Stepped Pyramid
walls mimics walls that surround the royal palace. At the same time, Imhotep wanted to stack
mastaba's on top of each other so it could symbolize a giant stair case for king Djoser to climb to
heaven. Even more, the corridor walls block all light and the fake buildings represent shrines of the
upper and lower kingdoms. More over, the Stepped Pyramid has a sed–port in which the kings
jubilee takes place. In contrast, The Pyramids of Gizeh had there burial chambers in the middle
pyramid "the heart". Also the Pyramids of Gizeh are the largest pyramids that were made in Ancient
Egypt. The Pyramids of Gizeh have a sphinx in the monumental area and were made to symbolize
Ben Ben or better known Ra. Last the highest Pyramid of Gizeh is 450 feet tall but originally 480

Egyptian Pyramids In Ancient Egypt
One of the first examples of a pyramid built in ancient Egypt was the Pyramid of Djoser. It's the
oldest of the 130 pyramids in Egypt. It is what you would call a step pyramid. The Pyramid of
Djoser was built around 4650 years ago or 2640 BC. The pyramid was built in Saqqara, which was a
part of the Old Kingdom's capital, Memphis. Pyramid of Djoser was made, like most pyramids, to
hold the mummified remains of the area's pharaoh, King Djoser. The bottom floor/layer of the
pyramid was a square mastaba, in other words, an ancient Egyptian tomb. The other five layers were
the same kind of structure but gradually getting smaller each new level. The pyramid was designed
by Imhotep, who was known by many as the father of ancient Egyptian stone architecture. He made
it 204 feet tall making the tallest structure of its time. The tomb with the pharaoh's remains was
made underneath the ground with a network of tunnels in attempts to stop any kind of robbery. The
pyramid is made out of limestone. Its base is 109 m × 125 m (358 ft × 410 ft). The whole complex
has walls about 10.5 feet high and made out of limestone along with everything inside the walls.
Right outside the walls, there is a trench that is 750 m long and 40 m wide. Its purpose is said to be
so it was more difficult to get into the complex. It also had a roofed colonnade, which just included
many stone pillars with a roof. Historians say that the small chamber in between the pillars may

Descriptive History Of Pyramids
The Pyramid of Djoser, or step pyramid, is an archeological stay in the Saqqara necropolis, Egypt,
northwest of the city of Memphis. It was built amid the 27th century BC for the burial of Pharaoh
Djoser by his vizier, Imhotep. It is the central highlight of a endless funeral home complex in an
gigantic patio encompassed by ceremonial structures and beautification. This to begin with Egyptian
pyramid comprised of six mastabas (of diminishing measure) built on one another in what were
clearly modifications and improvements of the unique arrange. It is seven levels tall and four–sided.
The pyramid initially stood 62 meters (203 ft) tall, with a base of 109 m × 125 m (358 ft × 410 ft)
and was clad in cleaned white limestone. The step pyramid (or proto–pyramid) is considered to be
the most punctual large–scale cut stone development, in spite of the fact that the pyramids at Caral
in South America are modern and the adjacent walled in area known as Gisr el–mudir would appear
to originate before the complex. The Red Pyramid, moreover called the North Pyramid, is the
biggest of the three major pyramids found at the Dahshur necropolis in Cairo, Egypt. Named for the
corroded ruddy tint of its ruddy limestone stones, it is too the third biggest Egyptian pyramid, after
those of Khufu and Khafra at Giza. It is too accepted to be Egypt's to begin with fruitful endeavor at
building a "genuine" smooth–sided pyramid. Neighborhood inhabitants allude to the Ruddy Pyramid

Ancient Egypt's Strong And Well-Organized Government
Ancient Egypt had a strong and well–organized government for many reasons. Pharaohs are
exemplary when it comes to representing a well–organized government. They are the top dogs of
Egypt. These rulers had dynasties which ruled over Egypt, sort of like the Caracalla dynasty of
Rome. There were over 30 dynasties in Egypt. An instance of a dynasty was king Ramesses the
second. Additionally, there were rules to being a pharaoh and how these rulers are proclaimed. This
shows well–organized government because it is preventing people from randomly declaring
themselves pharaoh and keeps the citizen of Egypt in line. One rule, for example, is that a Pharaoh
could have many wives, but only one could be the great wife. The great wife's son would be the

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Analysis
The musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has lyrics written by Tim Rice and
music by Andrew Lloyd Webber (Gänzl). Joseph is one of Lloyd Webber's most popular works and
has been performed in multiple countries both professionally and in schools. It is based on the story
of Joseph and his coat of many colors from the Torah. The majority of the musical takes place in
ancient Egypt during Biblical times. Joseph's interpretation of ancient Egypt influences the
audience's perception of the country in that time.
Joseph's first "performance" was in March of 1968 at St. Paul's Junior school in London England
Originally composed for a school choir as a 25 minute piece. It was the first piece of work by Lloyd
Webber and Rice to be performed publicly. It has since been revised performed multiple times at
various schools and theatres (Playbill). Following Lloyd Webber's success with Jesus Christ
Superstar, the show had its first professional performance at the Edinburgh Festival of 1972 by the
Young Vic company. After it was not deemed to be very successful in the UK, the music and lyrics
were revised again, adding more characters and songs. And then the script finally became solidified
(more or less) to the version we know of today (The Encyclopedia of the Musical Theatre Vol.2). Its
first Broadway production was on November 18, 1981 at the Entermedia Theatre in New York City
(Gänzl). Although it technically premiered in 1981, it is considered part of the 1982

How Did Egyptian Architecture Evolve Over Time?
Egypt's pyramids are seen as monumental structures that inspire us as humans. These magnificent
tombs of the kings have survived the ravages of time and still stand tall today, the sheer scale,
accuracy and strength of these structures leave many modern day architects and historians in awe.
There was an immense amount of effort and resources invested into tomb building as the Egyptians
believed that the soul could not live on in the afterlife if the deceased's body was not preserved and
freed from the corruption on Earth. This also arises the question of how the Egyptians managed to
achieve their success. How did Egyptian architecture evolve over time?
Before 3000 BCE, members of ancient Egypt's aristocracy were buried in mounds of sand known as
mastabas. The very first method of this were pits in the sand where the deceased was placed along
with personal items. Due to the sand the body was preserved but not as well as mummification. The
primitive form of the pyramid were mastabas. Mastabas were meant to give protection from tomb
robbers and wild animals. Mastabas are bench like, rectangular structures with sloping sides and a
flat roof. They were meant to represent the mass of the Earth, mastaba means "bench" in the Arabic
language. Mastabas were only meant for aristocrats and members and family of the monarchy. The
first construction sites of these buildings were on the west side of the Nile River, in a place called
Saqqara. They were built there because that was a

The Egyptian Belief Of Gods
Egyptian Belief in Gods The ancient Egyptians had constructed a thriving autonomous society
between 5500 BC to 30 BC. This society was able to construct numerous technological and social
advancements that allowed them to thrive socially and economically. Egyptian gods also played a
role in society. Ancient Egyptians believed in these gods through climate, religion, and historical
events. Ancient Egyptians believed in gods through the climate. According to K.E. Carr, "Ancient
Egyptians lived in an area near the Sahara Desert." The climate in the area consisted of hot and dry
summers with cold nights. The dry climate caused ancient inhabitants to settle in modern day Egypt
due to the Nile River. According to a geological expert, "The Nile ... Show more content on

Instead, their seasons were consisted on the basis of when was the optimum time to plant their crops
and cultivate the land. One expert points out that, "Between June and September in a season the
Egyptians called akhet" (Seawright). This was not an optimum time for harvesting because the lands
were all flooded from the Nile waters and people tended to stay indoors due to the high tide of the
waters. The remaining seasons consisted of, according to a researcher, "peret (growing), and shemu
(harvesting)" (Seawright). During the growing season, the Egyptians used different forms of
irrigation in order to grow the crops more efficiently. Followed by the growing season, came the
harvest season. The Egyptians would cultivate the land from what they had grown in order to feed
their families as well as to make offerings. They made offerings to the pharaoh in hopes of future
success in farming and with the flood waters, as well as to the multiple gods that they worshiped
such as Hapi. They gave offerings to him in hopes that he would once again allow the Nile to flood
again to allow the farmers to have another successful attempt at harvesting and providing for the
many inhabitants that lived in the Nile River Basin. Climate was only the first aspect that ruled.
Religion also played in integral role in the Ancient Egyptians beliefs. In truth, Egyptians tried to do
everything they could to please the many gods they worshiped because they believed that these gods

Ancient Egypt-The Great Pyramid Of Giza
Egypt has had a complex history. At the beginning of recorded history, Egypt was ruled by god–
kings called pharaohs. Each one attempted to outdo his predecessors in the scale and complexity of
his tomb. This competition led to Egypt's most recognizable monuments: the pyramids. Pharaohs
such as Djoser, Snefru, and Khufu built ever bigger monuments to their own glory and to the gods
they worshiped. What innovations were created in the path to the largest pyramid – the Great
pyramid of Giza, and what caused those innovations?
In the 1st dynasty, pharaohs built their tombs at Abydos, on the west bank of the Nile. According to
Egyptian myth, the western desert was the land of the dead, due to the fact that the sun set in the
west and was reborn in the east. The pharaohs built mastabas, mounds of dirt and rock roughly
shaped like a brick. In the center of each structure, a shaft was dropped down for many feet. The
bottom of that shaft was where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Ancient Egypt, "this was the first pyramid to be began as a true pyramid, although still
employing inwardly–sloping masonry as found in step pyramids. The latter feature has contributed
to its being externally the best preserved of all pyramids." He built the pyramid's base at a 54–
degree inclination. At the same time, he began building the interior, consisting of a lower corbelled
chamber with the passage to another corbelled chamber. The pyramid had one unique feature only
seen again in the middle kingdom. According to Guardian's Egypt, "The Bent Pyramid is the only
known pyramid from the Old Kingdom to have two separate entrances on two different faces." The
second entrance is located high up on the western side of the pyramid. However, once again,
something went wrong. The pyramid seems to be too steep, as well as being built on unstable
bedrock. Snefru's engineers changed the angle in the upper section to an angle of 43 degrees, leading
to its "bent"

First Step Pyramid Research Paper
This research paper is about the first step pyramid. This pyramid was built in the 27th century, so
you can say it is pretty old. It is a central feature that is in a huge courtyard surrounded by many
memorial and ceremonial figures. It is one of the first pyramids built. The structure of the pyramid
isn't in the best of shape. It has many crack and loose rocks all over it. This pyramid used to be as
high as 62 meters from the ground. The pyramid has six steps and every one going up gets decreased
in the size. It is square shaped. It is considered one of the largest first pyramids built. It is located in
Saqqara Egypt. Djoser was once a king of the third dynasty. He was the first r second king but no
one is really quite sure about it. Many believed he ruled for a long time somewhere around 19–20
years. The step pyramid was made for him. One of the reasons it is important is because it's
structure. It is made out of stone. Building this pyramid out of stone was such a more hader process

The pyramid began as a square and got bigger over time. It was built in two stages, they started off
with the first four steps and then added the next top two. Instead of the square base the mastaba is
now a rectangular base. That made a major change in the structure of the pyramid. The six layers of
the pyramid lean in while going up. The men who built this pyramid worked hard and it was not an
easy task nor did it take a quick time to accomplish. The stone from this pyramid is very heavy. It is
amazing to see something made from such a long time ago to still be seen today. Many tourist visit

Disadvantages Of Technology
Have you ever wondered what STEM stands for? Well, if your curious, it means science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics. Wondering what these words mean? OK well, Science is
were the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and
behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. Science is used for
many things like discovering lots of different things, finding new sicknesses, and curing cancer.
Technology, the application of scientific knowledge for practical, especially in industry. You use
technology for many different things. You can use it for launching rockets into outer space! Keep
your home safe and make sure no robbers or intruders break into your house. Without technology,
this planet would be a little off, we couldn't send Neil Armstrong to the moon, or let Michael
Jackson and the Jackson 5 sing their awesome music. Technology helps use in our everyday social
lives, sure technology can be bad in ways, for example texting someone while driving a car or
different vechical. You don't want to ever over use technology! According to Junior Thorpe "For
decades, studies of indicated that spending significant time parked in front of a screen–whether it's a
TV, computer or tablet–lowers cardiovascular health outcomes and increases mortality risk. And the
unfortunate thing about this that exercising doesn't do anything to help." But at certain times using
phones and other technology can really help, you can call the doctor's office when you're sick so you
know what sickness you have. You can call or text friends and family when they are sick or need a
little help and stay in touch with them. Engineering, the branch of science and technology concerned
with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures work done by, or the
occupation of, an engineer. Engineering really helps in our everyday lives because without
engineering we wouldn't have homes, schools, offices, fire stations, or ice cream shops! But most
important we wouldn't be able to drive to ours friends birthday parties or go to family reunions.
Engineering helps use fly to fun places like Hawaii, Washington, Tokyo, and

them? And were any of these builder or architects famous? These questions are what I'm trying to

Well the first known architect named Imhotep, was also the most famous. He built a pyramid for
King Djoser and this started the whole Pyramid fad. He was born a commoner and he was many
other things as well. Such as an admired healer, sage, high priest, and advisor for King Djoser. It is
believed that Imhotep worked for as many as four kings, he was famous while he lived, and even
more so in death. Even though Imhotep was very famous, the great Pyramid was not built by him,
and the same goes for the rest of the Pyramids of Giza. The Great Pyramid of Giza was built by
King Khufu, and is the tallest of the pyramids standing at 480 feet tall. Then King Khufu's son and
Grandson built the two other renowned pyramids of Giza. His Son Khafre built the second largest

King Narmer's Second Dynasty
On a cultural, economic and political level, Egypt has been largely shaped by the idiosyncrasies of
its various rulers. Egypt's first leap towards becoming an advanced civilisation began with King
Narmer's unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. Although the first 200 years of Egypt's unification
do not appear to have been peaceful, cultural development accelerated ahead during the early
dynasties. The tensions between the North and South throughout Egypt's second dynasty continued
to grow until Khasekhemwy's ascension to the throne. As the last King of the Second Dynasty, he is
widely recognised as the King that resolved the conflict between the two sides, however, how this
was achieved is not known. The beginning of the third dynasty started with his son, Djoser, who
now ruled over a politically stable Egypt. Egyptian society advanced significantly under ... Show

The validity of Narmer's pharaonic title is supported by the seal impressions found in the Abydos
tombs which have provided an ancient list of Kings, of which Narmer is recorded as a pharaoh. His
rule was further consolidated by his marriage with Neithhotep, a supposed Lower Egyptian Princess,
as suggested by Sir Flinders Petrie. Egyptian culture has not only benefited from the Unification,
rather the economy as well. Narmer's name has been found outside Egypt, in Syria–Palestine which
indicates that some form of contact and active trade was present between Egypt and parts of the
Ancient Near East, and thus creating trade links bettering Egypt's future economic prospects. As a
result of the accelerated cultural development brought upon by Narmer's unification of Upper and
Lower Egypt, handicrafts, mason's skills, architecture, burial customs , writing art, bureaucracy and
politics have improved dramatically. In terms of writing art and iconography, the reign of Narmer
illustrates the transition between old and new systems of royal iconography. On an ivory cylinder in

The Pyramid Of Djoser Complex And The Colosseum
The two works of art that I will be talking about are The Pyramid of Djoser complex and The
Colosseum. The subject that these two works of art share is architecture. The Pyramid of Djoser
complex was created by Imhotep who was the vizier of Pharaoh Djoser. It was built during the 27th
century BC for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser. The medium used to make The Pyramid of Djoser
complex is stone. The Roman Colosseum was created under emperor Vespasian and was completed
under his successor and heir Titus. The art style for The Pyramid of Djoser complex is an Egyptian
kind of style. Construction for the Colosseum began in AD 72 and was completed in AD 80 under
Titus. The medium that was used to create the colosseum was concrete, stone and sand. The art style

meaning of the word "art" are multiple, sediment and cross each other in the language. Missing uses

The "art for art" remained unknown in ancient Egypt; all creation was a practical purpose: the
prosperity and triumph of Egypt, providing the survival of rulers and notables. The beautiful had no
value in itself; we would say in modern terms, that the supreme intention was magical action.
According to our book (art history by Marilyn Stokstad and Michael W. Cothren): "The architecture
is religious or funeral destination; only temples and tombs were built of sustainable materials,
although we also know some palaces and fortresses. The statuary, too, funeral (the statue is
considered the repository of the soul of the deceased) or divine (the royal statues represent the
pharaoh, god on earth or in the hereafter). The reliefs are dependent on strict religious patterns; one
painting, especially that found in the tombs of the notables of the New Kingdom, manifest a
spontaneity and a certain naturalism, but it was only a substitute art to replace cheaply the painted
relief. This liveliness is reflected in the minor arts, and fard for spoons or pots ointments; but the
jewels themselves usually hold conventions of religious symbolism". Although, the step pyramid

Many changes were made to funerary architecture as the years progressed. In Early Dynastic period,
the elite members of society would be buried under a tomb structure called a mastaba. Inside the

These funerary structures would often be arranged together into a necropolis and would be faced

alone in the desert? What put the egyptians so far ahead of the the rest of the world, with their
structures and technology? Recent discoveries are showing that they not only had control of
advanced medicine, but they also had a sophisticated social structure. Many places around the world
have been shown with this advancement, a more popular example would be Atlantis. With their
advanced and highly valued metals, Atlantis was a hotspot for cultural mixing. So if all of this

of this possible?" Well considering that the pyramids are position in such a pattern only viewed as a

The most famous of all ancient pyramids are the pyramids located in the deserts of Egypt. From
2630 B.C. to 1530 B.C. ancient Egyptians built over 90 pyramids. These pyramids were built as
burial places for Egyptian kings, queens, and other royal or rich Egyptians. Egyptians believed in
the afterlife. They believed that they would journey to a new world after they died and that they
would need their bodies for this new life. The body would go through a mummification process

The Egyptian Pyramids Essay
The Egyptian Pyramids
When most people think of Ancient Egypt they think of Pyramids. To construct such great
monuments required a mastery of architecture, social organization, and art that few cultures of that
period could achieve.
The oldest pyramid, the Step–Pyramids, grow out of the abilities of two men, King Djoser and
Imhotep. Djoser, the second king of 3rd dynasty, was the first king to have hired an architect,
Imhotep, to design a tomb (Time–Life Books, 74). Imhotep was known as the father of mathematics,
medicine, architecture, and as the inventor of the calendar (White, 40). He had a great idea of
stacking mastabas until they reached six tiers, a total of 60 meters high and its base 180 meters by

Just to move one block took the work of forty men. The daily life of the workers constructing the
pyramids was one of immense toil spanning over a long period of time. The quarrymen toiled away
with soft copper chisels that hardly made a dent in the limestone. Another team dug a network of
canals to transport the stones and food for the workers. Finally, another team of workers would haul
the massive blocks on wooden sleds and put them into position (Casson, 130–137). This great social
organization became the force that knit the country together.
Another important group was the artisans. They were the people who decorated the inside of the
pyramids. The artisans, also, brought a sense of social organization by the many processes it took to
produce a work of art. For instance, the actual sculpting of a statue was not considered a single
process, but as on process among many. The quarrymen had to quarry the stone with soft copper
chisels, and it was transported to a sculptor. After the sculptor was finished with it, the sculpture was
sent to another artisan. This artist would cut hieroglyphs in the statue. The hieroglyphs were about
the life of the person that the statue represented. Then, they would send it to a metal worker who
inserted the eyes and other details. Finally, the statue was

Most of the paintings in this building are known to be reliefs where Egyptians carved stories into

Egyptian Pyramid Construction
Thousands of years ago, the ancient Egyptians used different type of stone materials to build the
Great Pyramids as it is known, Egypt is a very rich country with stones that it was referred to as the
"state of stone". It has a great amount of various limestone formation which the Egyptians used to
call the "white stone". Egypt is also rich with sandstone, but it was not really used that often during
that era.
Most of these materials were not that rough. They used low grade limestone to build the pyramid
core, and fine white limestone to employ for the outer casing as well as to cover interior walls, also
pink granite was more often used on inner walls. Basalt was one of the most common material used
for flooring, it is a volcanic stone formed because of a quick cooling of basaltic lava. ... Show more

The stone was a poor–quality material, it was layered in regular, strong formations with half a meter
thickness. It was grained with yellow to greenish gray shading. The Egyptians used a thin layer of
clay to separate the limestone layers from each other.
According to the history, most temples of Egypt, especially in the north area, incorporated a mound
of earth to represent a symbol of the original site of all life. The Egyptians started shaping such
mounds as a small hill of earth or sand, but then these mounds eventually took the form of a small
pyramid carved from a single block of stone.
Therefore, it looks like the pyramid shape represented the idea of their belief that a new life,
emerging from a mound of earth to be bathed in the light and warmth of the

Title: Ziggurat of Ur
Period: Neo–Sumerian
Provenance: Ur, Iraq
Date: 2150 BC
The "Ziggurat of Ur" was built in 2150 BC by the Gutians. First, let's discuss what exactly a
ziggurat is. A ziggurat is a superstructure built on top and around a mountain. On the very top was a
temple. Ziggurats were made out of only mud brick. One may ask, why use mud brick? Compared
to other materials such as limestone it is a terribly weak building material. The reason was because
of the location of Ur. Ur did not have limestone anywhere near it so mud brick was the practical
choice. Viewed from the outside, the giant mud ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were also tunnels leading to hundreds of rooms. This was not merely a tomb but also a place
where King Djoser could live in the afterlife. The pyramid was built in the middle of a necropolis,
which literally means, "city of the dead" in Greek. Surrounding the necropolis is a limestone wall to
keep out everyone except a very select few. There were many other structures in the necropolis such
as: Temples, courtyards, and pavilions. However, most of the buildings were filled with rubble or
sand and were just for show. The building of pyramids kept all of the people in the surrounding
cities busy and working. These kinds of structures were great for Egyptian economy. There are
many similarities and differences between the Ziggurat of Ur, and Stepped Pyramid of Djoser. Each
level of the Stepped Pyramid bears a structural resemblance to the Ziggurat of Ur. While the two
structures may look slightly a like they're purposes are very different. Stepped Pyramid of Djoser is
a tomb for the fallen King, and the Ziggurat of Ur in a temple. The Pyramid was set in a necropolis
with a big surrounding wall while the Ziggurat was built in the center of a city and was very open
and welcoming. Another big difference is the building materials. The Pyramid was built out of
durable limestone while the Ziggurat was built out of flimsy mud brick. The Ziggurat temple was
washed away by years of sand abuse while the

Egypt is one of the oldest civilizations to exist, originating back to about 8000 BCE, and it is
currently the second most populated country in Africa. Almost all of those who live in Egypt live
near the Nile River, due to the harsh environment within the Sahara Desert which was possibly once
a thriving land of vegetation◊1. However, even though the Ancient Egyptians lived in such a limited
amount of space, they had quite a lot of artistic creations. The Egyptians also regarded the concept
of life highly, even after death◊2. This is shown in their extensive efforts to preserve the body of
their pharaoh. Ancient Egyptians mummified their pharaohs because they believed their pharaohs

Abstract
Egypt is a North African country. Civilization of Egypt is amongst the oldest known civilizations of
the world. Term "Egypt" has a Greek origin which means "House of the Spirit of Ptah". Ptah was the
earliest God of this land. Egypt is also known as "Kemet" which means "Dark Land". This name is
given to Egypt because of the dark soil that exists along the banks of Nile River. "Misr" was the
name which was given to it later. The civilization of Ancient Egypt is divided into three periods
based on the peaks of civilization. The first one of them was the Old Kingdom which is the subject
of this research study.
Introduction
The period of third millennium BC is known as the Old Kingdom in Kemetic. Egypt attained its first
peak of civilization during this period. There are three identifiable kingdom periods in Egypt. They
are 'Old Kingdom', 'Middle Kingdom', and 'New Kingdom'. Each of these "kingdoms" represent a
high point of civilization along lower Nile Valley. Eighteenth century historians were the pioneers
who used this term for the first time. According to the Ancient Egyptians, the distinction between
the early dynastic period and the Old Kingdom cannot be recognized. It is also because of the fact
the first two kings of the Old Kingdom were related the last dynastic kingdom. Ineb–Hedg was the

changes within the infrastructure of their society during the middle kingdom. When Historians and
scholars study the Old Kingdom, and the Middle Kingdom, One will notice that alterations to their
religion, art, and architecture changed through both periods in history. Internal forces, as well as
outside influences, shaped ancient Egyptian civilization. One would argue that the terms Old,
middle and knew Kingdoms were of a hellenistic idea, instead of a Ancient Egyptian Ideology. The
Old Kingdom founds its reign lasted from 2700– 2200 B.C. This time period consisted of the third

The Ancient Egyptians believed that the pharaoh was a god himself, and that his power was given to
him by the god Ra. Other pharaohs also believed in this as well which was the case with Zoser, and
the pharaohs of the preceding dynasties.
The divinity of the pharaoh would be later reduced in magnitude. People in Ancient Egypt would
drift away from the royal hierarchy and create their own small community city–states. The pharaoh's
power would diminish so much that, Egyptians during that time started to be that the pharaoh
himself was no longer a god, but merely the son of the god Re. The quality of the crown started to
fade showed overtime you started to see small communities establish their own royal hierarchy and
build their own pyramids to represent their status. The size of the pyramids were the result of this
shift in power. Eventually, the pharaohs became a major contributor in their own downfall. There
were marriages of non–royal women this led to the belief that the divinity of the royal line was
diluted, thereby reducing the pharaoh's power. In addition, the royal treasury was rapidly being
decreasing due to maintenance costs of pyramids being built. It wasn't long until the priesthood and
the nobles saw that they were as wealthy as the pharaoh After Pepi II, central government was
completely lost, and anarchy reigned.

The Egyptian Pharohs and Temples
Pharaohs or the king–gods spent enormous time, energy and wealth to build the temples and their
tombs for one and the same reason. During their life they commanded unlimited power over their
dominion. They were portrayed as gods and they enjoyed unquestioned loyalty from everyone from
their kingdom as well as respect from abroad. As in any kingdom, one person cannot do everything
by himself or herself. Usually they have a team of advisors and staff taking care of smaller chores
for the boss. In case of the pharaohs, their priests took care of majority of affairs. In order to
accomplish that, the pharaohs built enormous temples where to impress the people and project their
god power to the priests. In exchange priests would keep crowds in line with pharaohs needs and
wants for whatever was the current agenda. The priest's task was to instill and uphold the belief in
pharaohs divine source. In this case spending enormous amount of time, energy and money on
temple was assuring never–ending power of the ruler and for them it was everything they cared for.
Subsequently, the pharaoh's belief that after departure from this earthly body, they will still be ruling
their kingdom in afterlife. Therefore they have built the enormous tombs and stored their wealth in
there to have it in spirit world. In a sense they were preparing to move from one place to another and
they wanted to take as much as they could to their new kingdom in eternal life. For them, as they

We had lots of water, food and shelter. Later that night, I had wanted to see what was inside of the

Egypt : A Fragile State
Egypt
Ancient Egypt is one of the first pristine states Before Egypt there were many ancient civilizations
that were secondary states and not pristine. The secondary states only met some of the criteria
needed, not all six. Egypt has been well documented in which it meets all the criteria needed to
become a pristine state. The six criteria needed to become a pristine state was population pressure,
intensification of agriculture, warfare, hereditary leader, storable grains, and
impaction/circumscription. By becoming a pristine state in ancient times, it meant that Egypt would
be a powerful civilization for many years. Egypt was the first state level society to become a pristine
state. Egypt was an ever growing population which had population pressure for the need to support
all of the people in the society. To be able to support the population, they needed to intense the
agricultural aspect of the society. Food is one of the basic needs for life to sustain itself especially
for a large population. They used the Nile extensively for the water to help the production of crops.
After they planted the crops there was time of harvest in which they were able to gather food and
store them for future use. They also had a hereditary leader because most, if not every pharaoh had
the throne passed from one generation to another. Warfare is also needed to expand the boundaries
to help give more land to support a growing population. Egypt was also surrounded by deserts and
the Nile River.

  • 1. Compare And Contrast Mesopotamian Religion And Royal Power By juxtaposing the Mesopotamian and Egyptian religion and royal power, we can see how these two different ascendancies acted similarly and antithetically as they both affected their people's fabrications. These strong concepts, religion and royal power (starting around approximately the early, ancient 3500 B.C.E.) compelled their people to follow their rulings. Mesopotamian & Egyptian cultural architecture, writing/arts, and geographical location act as evidence to exhibit how religion and royal power were sovereignties that influenced these creations. The royal power and religion of Egypt and Mesopotamia both affect the architecture of their region. • 5. Egyptian Pyramids In Ancient Egypt One of the first examples of a pyramid built in ancient Egypt was the Pyramid of Djoser. It's the oldest of the 130 pyramids in Egypt. It is what you would call a step pyramid. The Pyramid of Djoser was built around 4650 years ago or 2640 BC. The pyramid was built in Saqqara, which was a part of the Old Kingdom's capital, Memphis. Pyramid of Djoser was made, like most pyramids, to hold the mummified remains of the area's pharaoh, King Djoser. The bottom floor/layer of the pyramid was a square mastaba, in other words, an ancient Egyptian tomb. The other five layers were the same kind of structure but gradually getting smaller each new level. The pyramid was designed by Imhotep, who was known by many as the father of ancient Egyptian stone architecture. He made it 204 feet tall making the tallest structure of its time. The tomb with the pharaoh's remains was made underneath the ground with a network of tunnels in attempts to stop any kind of robbery. The pyramid is made out of limestone. Its base is 109 m × 125 m (358 ft × 410 ft). The whole complex has walls about 10.5 feet high and made out of limestone along with everything inside the walls. Right outside the walls, there is a trench that is 750 m long and 40 m wide. Its purpose is said to be so it was more difficult to get into the complex. It also had a roofed colonnade, which just included many stone pillars with a roof. Historians say that the small chamber in between the pillars may have included ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Ancient Egypt's Strong And Well-Organized Government Ancient Egypt had a strong and well–organized government for many reasons. Pharaohs are exemplary when it comes to representing a well–organized government. They are the top dogs of Egypt. These rulers had dynasties which ruled over Egypt, sort of like the Caracalla dynasty of Rome. There were over 30 dynasties in Egypt. An instance of a dynasty was king Ramesses the second. Additionally, there were rules to being a pharaoh and how these rulers are proclaimed. This shows well–organized government because it is preventing people from randomly declaring themselves pharaoh and keeps the citizen of Egypt in line. • 11. Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Analysis The musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has lyrics written by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber (Gänzl). Joseph is one of Lloyd Webber's most popular works and has been performed in multiple countries both professionally and in schools. It is based on the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors from the Torah. The majority of the musical takes place in ancient Egypt during Biblical times. Joseph's interpretation of ancient Egypt influences the audience's perception of the country in that time. Joseph's first "performance" was in March of 1968 at St. Paul's Junior school in London England Originally composed for a school choir as a 25 minute piece. It was the first piece of work by Lloyd Webber and Rice to be performed publicly. It has since been revised performed multiple times at various schools and theatres (Playbill). Following Lloyd Webber's success with Jesus Christ Superstar, the show had its first professional performance at the Edinburgh Festival of 1972 by the Young Vic company. After it was not deemed to be very successful in the UK, the music and lyrics were revised again, adding more characters and songs. And then the script finally became solidified (more or less) to the version we know of today (The Encyclopedia of the Musical Theatre Vol.2). Its first Broadway production was on November 18, 1981 at the Entermedia Theatre in New York City (Gänzl). Although it technically premiered in 1981, it is considered part of the 1982 ... • 13. How Did Egyptian Architecture Evolve Over Time? Egypt's pyramids are seen as monumental structures that inspire us as humans. These magnificent tombs of the kings have survived the ravages of time and still stand tall today, the sheer scale, accuracy and strength of these structures leave many modern day architects and historians in awe. There was an immense amount of effort and resources invested into tomb building as the Egyptians believed that the soul could not live on in the afterlife if the deceased's body was not preserved and freed from the corruption on Earth. This also arises the question of how the Egyptians managed to achieve their success. How did Egyptian architecture evolve over time? Before 3000 BCE, members of ancient Egypt's aristocracy were buried in mounds of sand known as mastabas. The very first method of this were pits in the sand where the deceased was placed along with personal items. Due to the sand the body was preserved but not as well as mummification. The primitive form of the pyramid were mastabas. Mastabas were meant to give protection from tomb robbers and wild animals. Mastabas are bench like, rectangular structures with sloping sides and a flat roof. They were meant to represent the mass of the Earth, mastaba means "bench" in the Arabic language. Mastabas were only meant for aristocrats and members and family of the monarchy. The first construction sites of these buildings were on the west side of the Nile River, in a place called Saqqara. One expert points out that, "Between June and September in a season the Egyptians called akhet" (Seawright). The remaining seasons consisted of, according to a researcher, "peret (growing), and shemu (harvesting)" (Seawright). During the growing season, the Egyptians used different forms of irrigation in order to grow the crops more efficiently. Followed by the growing season, came the harvest season. The Egyptians would cultivate the land from what they had grown in order to feed their families as well as to make offerings. They made offerings to the pharaoh in hopes of future success in farming and with the flood waters, as well as to the multiple gods that they worshiped such as Hapi. They gave offerings to him in hopes that he would once again allow the Nile to flood again to allow the farmers to have another successful attempt at harvesting and providing for the many inhabitants that lived in the Nile River Basin. • 17. Ancient Egypt-The Great Pyramid Of Giza Egypt has had a complex history. At the beginning of recorded history, Egypt was ruled by god– kings called pharaohs. Each one attempted to outdo his predecessors in the scale and complexity of his tomb. This competition led to Egypt's most recognizable monuments: the pyramids. Pharaohs such as Djoser, Snefru, and Khufu built ever bigger monuments to their own glory and to the gods they worshiped. What innovations were created in the path to the largest pyramid – the Great pyramid of Giza, and what caused those innovations? In the 1st dynasty, pharaohs built their tombs at Abydos, on the west bank of the Nile. According to Egyptian myth, the western desert was the land of the dead, due to the fact that the sun set in the west and was reborn in the east. The pharaohs built mastabas, mounds of dirt and rock roughly shaped like a brick. In the center of each structure, a shaft was dropped down for many feet. The bottom of that shaft was where ... At the same time, he began building the interior, consisting of a lower corbelled chamber with the passage to another corbelled chamber. The pyramid had one unique feature only seen again in the middle kingdom. According to Guardian's Egypt, "The Bent Pyramid is the only known pyramid from the Old Kingdom to have two separate entrances on two different faces." The second entrance is located high up on the western side of the pyramid. However, once again, something went wrong. The pyramid seems to be too steep, as well as being built on unstable bedrock. It is a central feature that is in a huge courtyard surrounded by many memorial and ceremonial figures. It is one of the first pyramids built. The structure of the pyramid isn't in the best of shape. It has many crack and loose rocks all over it. This pyramid used to be as high as 62 meters from the ground. The pyramid has six steps and every one going up gets decreased in the size. It is square shaped. It is considered one of the largest first pyramids built. It is located in Saqqara Egypt. Djoser was once a king of the third dynasty. And the unfortunate thing about this that exercising doesn't do anything to help." But at certain times using phones and other technology can really help, you can call the doctor's office when you're sick so you know what sickness you have. You can call or text friends and family when they are sick or need a little help and stay in touch with them. Engineering, the branch of science and technology concerned with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures work done by, or the occupation of, an engineer. Egypt's first leap towards becoming an advanced civilisation began with King Narmer's unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. Although the first 200 years of Egypt's unification do not appear to have been peaceful, cultural development accelerated ahead during the early dynasties. The tensions between the North and South throughout Egypt's second dynasty continued to grow until Khasekhemwy's ascension to the throne. As the last King of the Second Dynasty, he is widely recognised as the King that resolved the conflict between the two sides, however, how this was achieved is not known. The beginning of the third dynasty started with his son, Djoser, who now ruled over a politically stable Egypt. Egyptian society advanced significantly under ... The validity of Narmer's pharaonic title is supported by the seal impressions found in the Abydos tombs which have provided an ancient list of Kings, of which Narmer is recorded as a pharaoh. His rule was further consolidated by his marriage with Neithhotep, a supposed Lower Egyptian Princess, as suggested by Sir Flinders Petrie. Egyptian culture has not only benefited from the Unification, rather the economy as well. Narmer's name has been found outside Egypt, in Syria–Palestine which indicates that some form of contact and active trade was present between Egypt and parts of the Ancient Near East, and thus creating trade links bettering Egypt's future economic prospects. As a result of the accelerated cultural development brought upon by Narmer's unification of Upper and Lower Egypt, handicrafts, mason's skills, architecture, burial customs , writing art, bureaucracy and politics have improved dramatically. The subject that these two works of art share is architecture. The Pyramid of Djoser complex was created by Imhotep who was the vizier of Pharaoh Djoser. It was built during the 27th century BC for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser. The medium used to make The Pyramid of Djoser complex is stone. The Roman Colosseum was created under emperor Vespasian and was completed under his successor and heir Titus. The art style for The Pyramid of Djoser complex is an Egyptian kind of style. Construction for the Colosseum began in AD 72 and was completed in AD 80 under Titus. The medium that was used to create the colosseum was concrete, stone and sand. To construct such great monuments required a mastery of architecture, social organization, and art that few cultures of that period could achieve. Djoser, the second king of 3rd dynasty, was the first king to have hired an architect, Imhotep, to design a tomb (Time–Life Books, 74). Imhotep was known as the father of mathematics, medicine, architecture, and as the inventor of the calendar (White, 40). Just to move one block took the work of forty men. The daily life of the workers constructing the pyramids was one of immense toil spanning over a long period of time. The quarrymen toiled away with soft copper chisels that hardly made a dent in the limestone. Another team dug a network of canals to transport the stones and food for the workers. Finally, another team of workers would haul the massive blocks on wooden sleds and put them into position (Casson, 130–137). This great social organization became the force that knit the country together. Another important group was the artisans. They were the people who decorated the inside of the pyramids. The artisans, also, brought a sense of social organization by the many processes it took to produce a work of art. For instance, the actual sculpting of a statue was not considered a single process, but as on process among many. The quarrymen had to quarry the stone with soft copper chisels, and it was transported to a sculptor. After the sculptor was finished with it, the sculpture was sent to another artisan. This artist would cut hieroglyphs in the statue. The hieroglyphs were about the life of the person that the statue represented. The first one of them was the Old Kingdom which is the subject of this research study. Introduction The period of third millennium BC is known as the Old Kingdom in Kemetic. Egypt attained its first peak of civilization during this period. There are three identifiable kingdom periods in Egypt. They are 'Old Kingdom', 'Middle Kingdom', and 'New Kingdom'. • 73. The Egyptian Pharohs and Temples Pharaohs or the king–gods spent enormous time, energy and wealth to build the temples and their tombs for one and the same reason. During their life they commanded unlimited power over their dominion. They were portrayed as gods and they enjoyed unquestioned loyalty from everyone from their kingdom as well as respect from abroad. As in any kingdom, one person cannot do everything by himself or herself. Usually they have a team of advisors and staff taking care of smaller chores for the boss. In case of the pharaohs, their priests took care of majority of affairs. In order to accomplish that, the pharaohs built enormous temples where to impress the people and project their god power to the priests.
