"What I figured out, and it blew me away that I would take an audio file and just drag it into my top

pieces that I wanted, I would highlight them and I would put a second track and I would use the top
track as my holding track, take my second track and just drag the pieces down and warp them how I

could do that so I just pulled the piece on top and then I would set my key group the way I want it

Personal Statement : Hit The Studio And Start Recording My...
I was planning to hit the studio and start recording my mixtape. But before I could lift myself up all
the way across town I layed in bed wording lyrics to myself. I snatched my notebook from my
tagged and torn–up backpack. It was half past 10 and to my surprise I was awake. I write most of
my songs in the morning. It's like I'm closer to who I really am because I was just asleep. Anyway I
was tapping my pen on the notebook struggling to make lyrics off the top of my head. Alright, okay
I got it.
On these streets of Atlanta lived a boy named Alonzo got no role models got no footsteps got
nobody to follow Full of pride straight up thug no rules to abide Got labeled spun the tables but the
boy was unstable–
Awe come on! I had it going but I choked, I just– I can't. The verse wasn't even the truth to be real.
I'm gonna get labeled. I know I will if I set my mind to it. Maybe I could even drop that verse once I
make it to the big scene. I never put my verses to waste I keep them in my notebook. I should be
heading out now it's already a quarter past 11 and I gotta be there before 12. I hopped in my lexus
and put the key in the ignition. I drove past the city and decided to take the side streets. The streets
are tagged and littered as always. I grew up in the projects of Hapeville, I had to move because mom
couldn't pay rent. Those good old days were way back before I grabbed the pen. I was passing by
the parking lot and I met up with my boy Gerald, he

The Music Video For Their Anthem
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth often references the experience of sitting on his father's shoulders at the
age of 8, watching West coast hip–hop legends Dr. Dre and Tupac film the music video for their
anthem to the Golden State, "California Love" as the spark that ignited his creative bonfire. Born on
June 17, 1987 to couple who moved from Chicago to Compton with only $500 to their names in
order to escape the gang lifestyle, Lamar was exposed to guns, drugs, and violence at a young age.
"I 'm 6 years old, seein ' my uncles playing with shotguns, sellin ' dope in front of the apartment."
Lamar witnessed his first murder outside his family's apartment when he was 5 years old – a
teenager gunned down while selling drugs. Although Lamar was never affiliated with a gang, his
whereabouts did put him into a few tense situations with gang members; in the song "Average Joe,"
Lamar recounts his experience being shot at by a group of Crips simply because of the
neighborhood in which he lived. But instead of being caught up in the whirlpool of gang–banging
that takes the lives of so many young Compton residents before him, he used his experiences as
motivation and fodder for exploding music career. As a kid living in one of the most violent cities in
America, Lamar kept a low profile. He made good grades in school and generally kept to himself – a
habit he would soon be forced to overcome. One example being when Lamar knew the answer to a
math problem during class, but he was too

Aubrey Drake Graham's Houstatlantavegas Quotes
The song I've chosen to write my paper on is called "Houstatlantavegas". Aubrey Drake Graham is a
Canadian born singer and songwriter, who records under his middle name Drake. Born October 24,
1986, met an agent of his father's friend. The agent had helped him pick up a role on a Canadian
television show called "Degrassi", playing the role of Jimmy Brooks. Brooks in the show, is a
basketball player who was shot by a classmate and became disabled. With his mother being sick, he
had grown up very poor. His father was a drummer who worked with Jerry Lee Lewis. Drake
growing up lived two different lives, while heavily affected by his parents' divorce. In Toronto, he
lived in an upper–class life. When in Memphis, Tennessee where his father lives, ... Show more

He quotes, "We all got dreams and we all start reaching" (L. 24), expressing dreams becoming
reality. Lights are spotlighted fame, while the money being thrown is income. Drake quotes
"Housekeeping knocking to see if all ya"ll decent" (L. 25), suggesting party lifestyles. Being
intoxicated, while not remembering who the partner was the night prior. It's hard to leave a surreal
occupation with difficulties, which is expressed in "Houstatlantavegas". The song quickly grew
popularity on the mixtape "So Far Gone", which was Drakes third mixtape released February 13th,
2009. Being the top mixtape of all modern music, hit the charts with significant success on
billboards top–100. Following the release of the mixtape, a notorious bid war started between two
record labels for the artist to contract with. Young money record label, had won the upcoming artist.
In addition to signing with the biggest record label, the artist has since released three albums.
Unique in their own ways, they all have different stories they tell. Comparatively, each elaborate on
life, love, happiness and struggles. Together with other well known artists, helps grow album
popularity. Equally important, collaborating together with Drake creates big names for artists
themselves. Not only has every album progressed for the singer and songwriter, fans

What It Means To Be An American Citizen Essay
What does it mean to be an American citizen? This is a hard question for me to answer because
while I am proud to be a part of a country where I have the right to vote and get an education just
like any other person, I am also ashamed to be a part of a country that was built on the racial
enslavement and then discrimination of black people for 200 years. So for me, it is both a blessing
and a curse to be an American citizen. I don't believe the whole 'America the great' propaganda or
the most perfect nation in the world notion either. But I do believe that as a black women there is no
other country in the world that can provide me with opportunities to succeed like America. To me,
being a black American citizen means working as hard as you ... Show more content on

This is also one of my favorite readings because of its strong message and the ideas she preaches.
She says, "In the transformation of silence into language and action, it is vitally necessary for each
one of us to establish or examine her function in that transformation and to recognize her role as
vital within that transformation". She wrote this essay while reflecting upon her mortality (after
being diagnosed with cancer), and questioning why she feared speaking out. By speaking up, we are
able to connect with others who have a similar vision for the world, and work with them, despite
differences we may have. Lorde is arguing that we must share and speak about what we believe in,
even if we are afraid to do so. When we remain silent on issues, we are still living in fear and these
silences only hurt us. Even though we may fear pain and judgement by speaking out, we will suffer
those same things by remaining silent. We must support and uplift the voices of all marginalized
people and seek connection within these stories. Out of all of the tapes on this mixtape, this one
speaks to me the most on citizenship. This talks about standing up for what you believe in no matter
the cost and that's what being an American is to

Mixtape
"They were into you, so they made you a tape" is the simple description of, and rationale for, a
mixtape according to Cassette From My Ex, a website devoted to these audio artifacts. Mixtapes
(distinct from dance mixes) were carefully edited compilations of obscure and familiar songs
arranged to express the maker's interests and tell an aural story, often designed for a particular
and/or intimate listener. Göran Hugo Olsson's mixtape documentary is a chronological, musically
structured collage tracing the arc of the Black Power movement from its inception during the civil
rights era through its dissolution as drugs began to erode black communities in the Seventies,
created with rarely seen footage culled from the archives of Swedish Television. ... Show more

Fortunately for us, the various filmmakers did not figuratively heed the tour guide's admonition to
stay out of "this neighborhood only for black people," persistently covering civil rights politics over
the decade and across the Diaspora. By unearthing and arranging this small selection of their filmed
observations and being "into it," Olsson's documentary humanizes a durable and uniquely American
emancipation struggle, inviting audiences of diverse generations to reconsider the global influence

Artist's Statement Of DJ Culture
Artist's Statement The development of DJs has brought an array of entertainment, but also various
issues among DJ culture. In addition, I used various DJ techniques, such as beatmatching, to create
an hour–long mix of R&B tracks through Audacity. Although most of the songs were from the 90s
and 00s, there are cultural aspects in DJ culture that my mixtape relates to. By the early 1950s, the
creation of "Rhythm and Blues" first existed as black music for black people. Furthermore, with the
presence of R&B, personality DJs began to emerge, such as DJ Jack Gibson and Alan "Moondog"
Freed. The 1900s was a time in which African Americans were oppressed and were still thought of
as inferior compared to whites. However, it was also during this time ... Show more content on

One technique I used was beatmatching. After importing all the tracks I wanted to use into Audacity
and ordering them in a specific way, I decided which 2 tracks each I would mix. Therefore, in order
to beatmatch, I had to choose which parts of the tracks I wanted to transition. Also, in order to
transition from one track to another, I had to align the specific basses. In other words, I had to align
where the start of the beat in one track occurred to the last beat of the other track. This is to allow
both tracks to have the same beat, therefore beatmatching. I also used fading in and out effects to
smoothly transition. I used this technique for a majority of the track. Another DJ technique I used
was fast cutting. Because some songs had a faster bpm, I used fast cutting to quickly transition into
another track while also keeping the same beat. I deleted certain parts of the songs to quickly change
the song, but in a way so that the beat does not change. Lastly, I downloaded a hip hop/R&B sound
effect and repeated it throughout the mixtape so it wouldn't be as plain. I decided to make a mixtape
containing only R&B songs because, in my perspective, it is a type of genre in which anybody can
relate to and sing along to as well. Therefore, just as other DJs have a purpose, my purpose is to
allow the audience to sing along to throwback R&B tracks. This is to create

Especially millennials that have never been to a drive in theater. New technology often kills off and

However there is a big difference between seeing something online and experiencing it in person.

Summary Of The Song 'Landslide'
"Landslide," by Fleetwood Mac, is written to show how the removal of a loved one can impact
someone's life negatively or positively. The theme of the song can be found in several lyric such as,
"Well, I've been afraid of changin, 'cause I've built my life around you" (Fleetwood Mac). It is said
that if a couple thinks that their relationship is not going to work out, it can tumble over at any time.
The effects of shouting out and going for help may seem like a good idea, but it will just bring down
the avalanche right on top of the situation and collapse everything in. In Perks of Being a
Wallflower, Charlie experiences a loss of a close friend (Michael) to a suicide. Charlie has the idea
of coping with this death by writing in letters to his unnamed friend and this is a reason why this is
on the mixtape. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This song represents the feeling of emptiness throughout life. Through all of Kurt Cobain's life, it
was mostly empty. People are searching for the theme, and that can be found in the lyrics, "With the
lights out, it's less dangerous, / Here we are now; entertain us, / I feel stupid and contagious"
(Nirvana). It is said that these lyrics show the security and satisfaction after shooting up with heroin.
The idea of drugs and sex is messed up but nothing can entertain a group of young teens. People are
trying to introduce this idea of heroin as an idea that is better than sex, which is almost all that
someone can say after shooting up too many times. Charlie soon finds the lifestyle inside highschool
of drug parties, drama, and nighttime adventures. Charlie is dipped into the 90s music era and this
helps cope with problems that may occur later throughout the

Dizzy Nyce Research Paper
One of the hottest up and coming hip hop artists out right now is Nyzzy Nyce. Born and raised in
small town Fort Wayne, Indiana. He now currently lives in Los Angeles, California. With him
becoming one of the first aspiring rappers to make a name for himself outside of the Midwest,
Nyzzy uses that to connect with his fans on a more personal level. Nyzzy has worked rigorously
hard on improving and progressing not only as a rapper, but as an artist. His solo mixtape debut was
entitled, "Nothing Nyce," and definitely emerged onto the hip hop scene with hits like, "Live It Up,"

has officially made himself a household name and a hip hop artist that is easy to relate to. With his
latest release, "Lost in Los Angeles," Nyzzy has one of the best mixtapes out right now. Moving
from Indiana to California could be slightly eerie, but instead he used that into his advantage and
expressed everything into this mixtape. Obviously the weather is much different, and also has a

He adores every book he reads, and with that, his English teacher, Bill, provides him with extra
stimulus for his class. One of the extra pieces of literature assigned to Charlie, was The Catcher in
the Rye, by J.D Salinger. The main protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye, Holden, has many similar
traits to Charlie, as the two books parallel each other. Both protagonists are both classified as
wallflowers, and throughout their respective novels, they go through a self–discovery process.
Within both books, there is also a predominant discovery of love, which is made through Charlie
and Holden's new profound self–discovery. In Perks, Charlie realises the reality of relationships, and
how difficult they can be. Furthermore, when it comes to relationships, Charlie lacks experience,
additionally his love for Sam is overwhelming, and he often became confused surrounding the topic.
"I love Sam. It's not a movie kind of love either. I just look at her sometimes, and I think she's the
prettiest and nicest person in the world" (pg. 51). Being socially inept at times, Charlie finds it hard
to comprehend his love. This is how The Catcher in the Rye, is similar to Charlie. Both protagonists
are unable to connect with others, such as women, and they both assume very comparable roles.

When I talk about The Weeknd, I already feel proud. He comes from Toronto. He comes from my
city. What The Weeknd did in 2011 needs to be recognized and not just because I say so, it needs to
be recognized because this was the moment Toronto started a growing movement that can be felt
today, but it really started in late December of 2010. Because in late December of 2010, three songs
were uploaded by The Weeknd and these songs were Loft Music, What You Need and The Morning.
3 months later, The Weeknd would go on to drop his critically acclaimed House Of Balloons

Thursday. At this point, The Weeknd had given away 18 tracks through both tapes. There was even a
Drake feature. Drake and The Weeknd were the sound in Toronto all throughout 2011. The Weeknd
would then give us another tape. Now an artist of his caliber at this point could have clearly charged
for these tapes, but he didn't. And because of this, he built a huge, cult following and then he gave us
the last part of the trilogy. The Weeknd had given us 27 songs through three mixtapes in a span of 9
months. All of this free. People would think of this as being crazy. How can you make money this
way? Why didn't he try to capitalize? For The Weeknd, It wasn't about the money. That's why he
protected his privacy until he had to show face. It was about the music for him. And this method
worked wonders for him. His sound would go on to influence Drake's Take Care. Take Care would

Throughout the book, A Long Way Gone, rap music plays an extremely important role in saving
Ishmael's life. While the boys are traveling one day, a group of large, muscular men jump out from
the bushes, holding up their machetes and hunting rifles. These men are the voluntary guards of the
village and were ordered by their chief to bring Ishmael and his friends back to the village. They are

not rebel soldiers, the chief does not believe them. The chief would not believe the boys until they
discovered a rap cassette tape in Ishmael's pocket. The chief forces Ishmael to explain the rap music.
Ishmael was instructed to sing and dance to "O.P.P" by Naughty by Nature and "I Need Love" by LL

Ishmael and his friends. The boys are untied and the village surprisingly feeds them and even offers
them a place to stay. Knowing that the rebels will eventually come, the boys refuse the offer. At that

completely mysterious, nobody knowing his real identity. This worked immaculately well with the

earlier work. However, many fans felt the more polished version took away from what initially
made them latch onto Tesfaye's work on songs like "Wicked Games." But to grow you must move

2014, lead single from the soundtrack to Fifty Shades Of Grey. This song has a much different vibe

a funky, pop sound to it, produced by super–producer Max Martin sounds more like Michael

of this song is easy and memorable, using an "ACAB" format, which repeats the beginning of the

As this book pertains to his past, the choice of wording by the author shows the youth and free spirit
of a twenty–year old that fell in love. For instance, "Have you ever been in a car with a southern girl
blasting through South Carolina when Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Call Me the Breeze" comes on the radio?
Sunday afternoon, sun out, windows down, nowhere to hurry back to? I never had..." shows the
youthful spirit that Rob had when he was with Renee, for she truly did show him how to enjoy his
youth and to have fun. However, as he reminisced through the pleasurable memories that Renee
brought to him, using diction he was able to express to the reader the sadness her death bestowed
upon him. "We met on September 17, 1989. We got married on July 13, 1991. We were married for
five years and ten months. Renée died on May 11, 1997, very suddenly and unexpectedly, at home
with me, of a pulmonary embolism. She was thirty–one..." Through syntax, he was able to show a
change in mood from the serenity and peace that he felt with while being accompanied by Renee to
her unexpected death in his arms. The short sentences in this excerpt from the book show that there
was an abrupt interruption in his life and it caused a change in the way the author wrote. Nature took

Remembering "Rumblefish"
Rob Sheffield is former radio D. J., as well as an editor and columnist for the Rolling Stones
magazine. He stumbled upon a mix tape titled Rumblefish with no songs written on it. At first he
referred to it as "just another piece of useless junk that Renee left behind" (Sheffield 643). Renee
was his wife whom passed away after they were married for only five years. So as he listens through
the tape, he finds himself re–living and relieving the memory of his life with his much loved wife;
and each song is related with bittersweet memories. And so he drowns and looses himself into the
mix tape.
Thinking back, there were many where I did just that. I would spend hours composing remix tapes
and much thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rob has been a music journalist for over twenty years; his writing career began back in the days
with Renee. He referred to them as "we were rock critics, freelancing for the Village Voice and Spin
Option." (Sheffield 648). They also DJ for their independent radio station and when they are not
working they would flip through vinyl records in music stores, listened to a lot of new songs and
wrote about them as fast as they could to meet the demand of the music mainstream. Since then,
Rob continues to write about music, TV and pop culture. Love is a MIX Tape: Life and Loss, One
Song at a Time, is the national bestseller that was he published in 2007 and has been translated into
more than 7 different languages. Rumblefish is an excerpt from that book and you can listen to all
the tracks he referred to in the essay at www.randomhouse.com/crown/mixtape (Sheffield). He
recently just finished his newest book, titled Talking to Girls about Duran Duran, which is also a
memoir about music. Rumblefish mix tape was composed back in 1993, when the 90's was
exploding with pop culture. "Bands that was too weird, too feminist, too rough for the mainstream a
year earlier was suddenly were the mainstream" (Sheffield 648). Nirvana, John Travolta, 90210,
R.E.M., Whitney Houston, Pearl Jam, Pavement; punk music and the alternatives were the new

  • 5. Personal Statement : Hit The Studio And Start Recording My... I was planning to hit the studio and start recording my mixtape. But before I could lift myself up all the way across town I layed in bed wording lyrics to myself. I snatched my notebook from my tagged and torn–up backpack. It was half past 10 and to my surprise I was awake. I write most of my songs in the morning. It's like I'm closer to who I really am because I was just asleep. Anyway I was tapping my pen on the notebook struggling to make lyrics off the top of my head. Alright, okay I got it. On these streets of Atlanta lived a boy named Alonzo got no role models got no footsteps got nobody to follow Full of pride straight up thug no rules to abide Got labeled spun the tables but the boy was unstable– Awe come on! I had it going but I choked, I just– I can't. The verse wasn't even the truth to be real. I'm gonna get labeled. I know I will if I set my mind to it. Maybe I could even drop that verse once I make it to the big scene. I never put my verses to waste I keep them in my notebook. I should be heading out now it's already a quarter past 11 and I gotta be there before 12. I hopped in my lexus and put the key in the ignition. I drove past the city and decided to take the side streets. The streets are tagged and littered as always. I grew up in the projects of Hapeville, I had to move because mom couldn't pay rent. Those good old days were way back before I grabbed the pen. I was passing by the parking lot and I met up with my boy Gerald, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Music Video For Their Anthem Kendrick Lamar Duckworth often references the experience of sitting on his father's shoulders at the age of 8, watching West coast hip–hop legends Dr. Dre and Tupac film the music video for their anthem to the Golden State, "California Love" as the spark that ignited his creative bonfire. Born on June 17, 1987 to couple who moved from Chicago to Compton with only $500 to their names in order to escape the gang lifestyle, Lamar was exposed to guns, drugs, and violence at a young age. "I 'm 6 years old, seein ' my uncles playing with shotguns, sellin ' dope in front of the apartment." Lamar witnessed his first murder outside his family's apartment when he was 5 years old – a teenager gunned down while selling drugs. Although Lamar was never affiliated with a gang, his whereabouts did put him into a few tense situations with gang members; in the song "Average Joe," Lamar recounts his experience being shot at by a group of Crips simply because of the neighborhood in which he lived. But instead of being caught up in the whirlpool of gang–banging that takes the lives of so many young Compton residents before him, he used his experiences as motivation and fodder for exploding music career. As a kid living in one of the most violent cities in America, Lamar kept a low profile. He made good grades in school and generally kept to himself – a habit he would soon be forced to overcome. One example being when Lamar knew the answer to a math problem during class, but he was too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. What It Means To Be An American Citizen Essay What does it mean to be an American citizen? This is a hard question for me to answer because while I am proud to be a part of a country where I have the right to vote and get an education just like any other person, I am also ashamed to be a part of a country that was built on the racial enslavement and then discrimination of black people for 200 years. So for me, it is both a blessing and a curse to be an American citizen. I don't believe the whole 'America the great' propaganda or the most perfect nation in the world notion either. But I do believe that as a black women there is no other country in the world that can provide me with opportunities to succeed like America. To me, being a black American citizen means working as hard as you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is also one of my favorite readings because of its strong message and the ideas she preaches. She says, "In the transformation of silence into language and action, it is vitally necessary for each one of us to establish or examine her function in that transformation and to recognize her role as vital within that transformation". She wrote this essay while reflecting upon her mortality (after being diagnosed with cancer), and questioning why she feared speaking out. By speaking up, we are able to connect with others who have a similar vision for the world, and work with them, despite differences we may have. Lorde is arguing that we must share and speak about what we believe in, even if we are afraid to do so. When we remain silent on issues, we are still living in fear and these silences only hurt us. Even though we may fear pain and judgement by speaking out, we will suffer those same things by remaining silent. We must support and uplift the voices of all marginalized people and seek connection within these stories. Out of all of the tapes on this mixtape, this one speaks to me the most on citizenship. This talks about standing up for what you believe in no matter the cost and that's what being an American is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mixtapes (distinct from dance mixes) were carefully edited compilations of obscure and familiar songs arranged to express the maker's interests and tell an aural story, often designed for a particular and/or intimate listener. Göran Hugo Olsson's mixtape documentary is a chronological, musically structured collage tracing the arc of the Black Power movement from its inception during the civil rights era through its dissolution as drugs began to erode black communities in the Seventies, created with rarely seen footage culled from the archives of Swedish Television. ... • 17. Artist's Statement Of DJ Culture Artist's Statement The development of DJs has brought an array of entertainment, but also various issues among DJ culture. In addition, I used various DJ techniques, such as beatmatching, to create an hour–long mix of R&B tracks through Audacity. Although most of the songs were from the 90s and 00s, there are cultural aspects in DJ culture that my mixtape relates to. By the early 1950s, the creation of "Rhythm and Blues" first existed as black music for black people. Furthermore, with the presence of R&B, personality DJs began to emerge, such as DJ Jack Gibson and Alan "Moondog" Freed. The 1900s was a time in which African Americans were oppressed and were still thought of as inferior compared to whites. However, it was also during this time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One technique I used was beatmatching. After importing all the tracks I wanted to use into Audacity and ordering them in a specific way, I decided which 2 tracks each I would mix. Therefore, in order to beatmatch, I had to choose which parts of the tracks I wanted to transition. Also, in order to transition from one track to another, I had to align the specific basses. In other words, I had to align where the start of the beat in one track occurred to the last beat of the other track. This is to allow both tracks to have the same beat, therefore beatmatching. I also used fading in and out effects to smoothly transition. I used this technique for a majority of the track. Another DJ technique I used was fast cutting. Because some songs had a faster bpm, I used fast cutting to quickly transition into another track while also keeping the same beat. I deleted certain parts of the songs to quickly change the song, but in a way so that the beat does not change. Lastly, I downloaded a hip hop/R&B sound effect and repeated it throughout the mixtape so it wouldn't be as plain. I decided to make a mixtape containing only R&B songs because, in my perspective, it is a type of genre in which anybody can relate to and sing along to as well. Therefore, just as other DJs have a purpose, my purpose is to allow the audience to sing along to throwback R&B tracks. This is to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On top of all the music I am exposed to at home, I sing every day in my choir class, and listen to countless showtunes every day at drama rehearsals. However, while I've always loved listening to music and singing wherever I go, I never really looked for any deeper meanings in the songs I was listening to. That was until a friend of mine gave me a mixtape during the October of my junior year. The mixtape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Long Way Gone A Long Way Gone Ishmael Beah was an innocent boy who enjoyed playing football, swimming in the streams, and even started a rap and dance group with his friends and older brother. This goes to show exactly how young and innocent Ishmael and his friends really were. Throughout the book, A Long Way Gone, rap music plays an extremely important role in saving Ishmael's life. While the boys are traveling one day, a group of large, muscular men jump out from the bushes, holding up their machetes and hunting rifles. These men are the voluntary guards of the village and were ordered by their chief to bring Ishmael and his friends back to the village. They are immediately tied up in the village and questioned. Even though the boys continue to insist they are not rebel soldiers, the chief does not believe them. The chief would not believe the boys until they discovered a rap cassette tape in Ishmael's pocket. The chief forces Ishmael to explain the rap music. Ishmael was instructed to sing and dance to "O.P.P" by Naughty by Nature and "I Need Love" by LL Cool J. The chief is still cautious of the boys until a young boy from the village admits to knowing Ishmael and his friends. The boys are untied and the village surprisingly feeds them and even offers them a place to stay. Knowing that the rebels will eventually come, the boys refuse the offer. • 65. Abel Tesfaye Essay Abel Tesfaye, other known as The Weeknd, is a newly arising artist. The 25 year old singer became a roaring sensation after his release of a trio of highly–acclaimed mixtapes. Those being House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence. During the time these were released, Tesfaye was completely mysterious, nobody knowing his real identity. This worked immaculately well with the themes of his music, dark, sulky songs about meaningless sex and drug use. It was a more revealing, less–glamorous side of R&B compared to the mainstream of the genre, this making the Weeknd the next big thing. He eventually revealed his identity and was consistently making it to the top ten of the Billboard charts with all his songs. He didn't seem like every other ... It all started in 2012, with the debut of Trilogy, a remastered collection of his original 2011 mixtapes. A year after, he released his official debut album, Kiss Land, which was similar to his earlier work. However, many fans felt the more polished version took away from what initially made them latch onto Tesfaye's work on songs like "Wicked Games." But to grow you must move forward. Tesfaye made a 180 and changed roles into a pop star when he released "Earned It" in 2014, lead single from the soundtrack to Fifty Shades Of Grey. This song has a much different vibe then many of The Weeknd's other songs, this being more symphonic and magnificent. It was apparent that he was moving out of his traditional and adapted sound of alternative–R&B to reach a bigger, more general audience. "Can't Feel My Face" was more out of unlike him. This song having a funky, pop sound to it, produced by super–producer Max Martin sounds more like Michael Jackson than anything on past mixtapes. Tesfaye sounded happy on that track, an emotion that he rarely, if ever, showed before. He even announced a collaboration with pop singer Ed Sheeran, who is on the other side of the ... It's been almost eight months since Texas and California rapper, Nikolai Rya, dropped his first mixtape The System. A fairly lengthy project at over 17 tracks, it was a more introspective and positive project. Rya's new mixtape here though, TiedDown, which dropped a week ago, is the reason we are all here today. TiedDown is much more concise and to–the–point mixtape at just eight songs. "I realized later on that 17 tracks is tougher to push than a tape with less songs" Rya explains. It is directed by two Swedish directors, and their nationality is very important for the layout of the film. The film takes place during the Civil Rights Movement, and included leaders such as Stokely Carmichael, Angela Davis, Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers. This was also during the time of the Vietnam War, whom Sweden saw a useless war. The heads of this country were the Nixon Administration, and Lyndon Johnson's administration.
