We research paper “On Improving Students’ Understanding of the Photoelectric Effect” at the 3rd Redesigning Pedagogy International Conference, Singapore, 1 – 3 June 2009.

2. QUANTAM MECHANICS
Explain why the maximum photoelectric energy is
independent of intensity whereas the
photoelectric current is proportional to intensity.
Recall, use and explain the significance of hf = f +
1/2m(vmax)2.

3. OSCILLATIONS
Recognise and use the equation a = – w2x as
the defining equation of simple harmonic
motion.
Recall and use x = xo sin wt as a solution to
the equation a = – w2x.

4. THERMAL PHYSICS
Apply the concept, on the thermodynamic (Kelvin
scale), absolute zero is the temperature at which
all substances have a minimum internal energy.
Convert temperatures measured in Kelvin to
degrees Celsius: T/K = Theta/oC + 273.15.

5. SUPERPOSITION
Show an understanding of experiments which
demonstrate two-source interference using water,
light and microwaves.
Understand the conditions required if two-source
interference fringes are to be observed.
