1. A child can be a role model if s/he will be provided with real
opportunities in life
“Home to School”: A stairway to peaceful society where our future generation will prosper.
Home to school program is a community based program run by
innovative and rationale local civil society organization in the eastern
Nepal. It is a group of individuals working for society and its welfare
targeted particularly to the poor children and women who suffer
from social discrimination, poverty and exclusion. The main
objective of the programme is to support the children by encouraging
them to go school and meeting their immediate and basic needs.
The home to school programme has started in Dharan since 2007. In
the beginning of 2009, the program has supported five children from
the poor families of Bajhagara, Dharan municipality to join school.
In Nepal, there are thousands of children prohibited from going to
school everyday due to the poverty and lack of awareness among
their parents. Most of these children are landless and from poor family surviving with pain and
hardship and residing in the peri-urban area of Dharan municipality. These families do not have their
home and they live in the hut often take shelter in public places. Many children do not have their
parents and are forced to do cheap labor and bound to be engaged in violent activities like robbery,
drug trafficking and other social crimes. These orphan children have to do everything to support
themselves and even their families. There is often incidence everyday where these children were
tortured and forced to illegal activities. Most of these children are under the age of twelve and the
vulnerability is very high within this group due to lack of education, guardianship and guidance.
These kids have to suffer from human right violation and even harassed by police and public.
There are many organizations working with the name of children welfare but outcomes are not
satisfactory. There might be various reasons but it is true that none of the initiatives have really
assessed the root cause of the problem. So the proposed initiatives have raised the voice of child’s
right and strongly believe that education is the key to address the problem. To meet its goal and
vision, the programme organized an initiative named “Home to
School” targeting the deprived children who are homeless, poor and
disadvantaged.
An organization Civil Society Welfare Centre (CSWC) is the change
makers at local level and through the organization we have to act
urgently and immediately. Children are our future and it is our
responsibility to provide access to education for our future
generation. The society would therefore like to request other civil
societies, government, donors, INGOs, individuals, organization to
support this initiative for the betterment of children and orphans. The
programme is also looking forward to have support from public and
individuals who share our common vision and goal. We believe that
together we can make difference and it’s time to act.
