The Evolution of High Heels Essay
Introduction
Evolution suggests that life began as relatively small and simple organism and developed into
various complex organisms today. Charles Darwin proposed his Theory of Evolution, forming the
foundation of evolutionary biology. He suggested that the origins of new life and evolution are
caused by natural selection over successive generations. It allows differential reproduction of
genotypes. There are five principles drawn upon the observation and assumption of evolution, which
are reproductive potential, constancy of number, struggle for existence, individual differences and
inheritance of traits. According to Darwin's Theory of Evolution, differences in species are caused
by continuous and accumulative small changes over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reproductive Potential
High heels have definite life cycle as usual goods, varying from several months to years. High heel
are trashed when the heels are worn out or crooked, the straps (if any) are broken, the shoes are
scuffed and the insole is deformed after repeating loading, etc. These lead to replacement of not
wearable high heels. Besides, when fashion trend and occasion changes, people are willing to
purchase new high heels in different design to match their needs. Although the prolonged wearing of
high heels causes foot–ache, many women are still fascinated by the

Well Fitting Shoes Research Paper
When people think about their work uniform, they often forget to consider their shoes.
Unfortunately, this neglect can lead to fatigue, soreness, and chronic pain in your feet. To put it in
perspective, almost 75% of all Americans will experience foot problems in their lifetime––typically
as a result of neglect and ill–fitting shoes.
That's why it's so important to make an educated, intentional decision when pairing shoes with your
uniform. If you know how to find a great pair of shoes, you can avoid many of the problems
associated with a lifetime of working on your feet.
Measure Both Feet
Measuring your feet is the most important step to finding a pair of well–fitting shoes. However, due
to the prevalence of internet commerce and discount retailers, most people don't buy ... Show more

This is a huge mistake. Feet are often different from one another, and your feet's size changes as you
age. The trick is to measure both feet and then buy shoes for the larger of the two.
Consider The Soles
Once fit is established, most people turn immediately to aesthetic considerations when purchasing
their shoes. It's not quite time to do that yet, though. The soles of your shoes play an important role
in how they'll function––vital considerations for shoes in the workplace.
If your job requires you to walk over uneven terrain, thicker soles are a great choice for the added
cushion they provide. Thinner soles offer more control, but lack cushion and often wear through
quicker than other shoes. Matching the proper sole to your job and environment is critical.
Friction Is The Enemy
Since your occupation could require you to take a significant number of steps, it's important to buy
shoes that eliminate rubbing. The repeated friction of shoe against foot can cause a significant
amount of irritation––and could even lead to infection. This is particularly true if you don't wear

Sneakers History
Sneakers have been around since the late 1800s. The first rubber soled shoes were called Plimsolls,
and there was neither a right nor left shoe (Fact Monster, 2000). They were a canvas material and
the sole was rubber to have them be inexpensive and wearable during sports. Plimsolls were
essential in the summer time because they kept your feet cool and they also dried quickly from
water. The all white Plimsolls became a fashion statement for Victorian promenades, which they
wore them with Madras jackets and flannels (Kippen, 2008). When the middle class started getting
more into sports, such as tennis, the material of the sneaker became more adaptable for the activity.

The tennis player Stan Smith was asked to endorse a sneaker in 1971, then later the sneaker became
named after him. In the 2000s Adidas did a modern version of it called "Adidas Stan Smith II"
(Metcalfe, 2011). Altogether the Stan Smith sneakers have sold over 65 million pairs since them first
coming out in 1971. The magazine "Complex Sneakers" listed Adidas Stan Smith 4th place from 50
of the greatest sneakers of all time (Leaventon, 2012). Known for its classic, minimalistic style
people love wearing for a fashion statement rather then just a tennis shoe. Adidas has a way to
include everyone into their target market, they think about what is missing and create a solution. In
2005, Adidas collaborated with designer Stella McCartney to create a women's line. The purpose of
the line was to give women performance sneakers that are functional and stylish as well (Adidas
Group, 2006). It was important for the sneakers to be stylish that way you're able to wear them in
the gym and being out and about. It is targeted for the young trendy audience that likes to combine

Under Armour Case Analysis
Under Armour is a very popular and well–known brand throughout the world, there are many
reasons why this is the case and why they are very successful as a company. Under Armour creates
value for their customers in many ways, one of these ways is with their basketball shoes. Customers
wouldn't want to buy shoes if they didn't think it would be durable and a good shoe. Customers can
trust Under Armour's basketball shoe because it is a shoe that somebody in the NBA wears. This
shows that someone is willing to trust their million–dollar contract with their shoes to help them get
their well–earned money, and that shows to confidence in Under Armour. Under Armour also gives
many different options that the customer can choose from. They offer different technologies,
materials, and articles of clothing. There are many different technologies they have, but I will only
list a few. One of these technologies is cool switch, this helps athletes perform longer because the
clothing will keep them cool and save them from sweating as much which helps save energy. Also,
they offer many different materials in case a customer is allergic to a certain type of material there is
always another so that they don't lose a customer. They also offer all different types of clothing so

Toms Shoes Business Model That Can Realize Both Commercial...
Abstract
In 2006, American entrepreneur Blake Mycoskie took his vacation in Argentina, and he liked the
traditional Argentine shoe, the alpargata. During the trip, he found many kids in villages even could
not afford a pair of shoes to protect their feet. When Mycoskie returned to America, he set up TOMS
Shoes, trying to help children in need by establishing a one–for–one business model, a new business
model that can realize both commercial value and social value. This case will discuss the strengths,
weakness of TOMS Shoes, analyze opportunities and threats on the external environment, and make
comprehensive evaluation on the base of each aspects of TOMS Shoes business.
TOMS Shoes is a young company, which was founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie, a seasoned
entrepreneur. Before founding TOMS Shoes, Mycoskie accumulated a wealth of enterprise
management experience by starting five companies in different fields like laundry services and
billboard advertising. In 2006, Mycoskie travelled Argentina. He enjoyed a life in Argentina and
lived as the locals. During this trip, he found most Argentineans wore the alpargata, a soft, casual
canvas shoe. He thought may be this kind of comfortable shoes would popular in United States.
However, he was not ready to do shoe business immediately. An occasional chance, he came across
a woman who was a member of a charity group, which provided shoes for children in need.

Secondly, these shops' profitability is very much affected by fierce pressure on margins imposed by
powerful suppliers. Consequently, due to this downturn, the weaker manufacturers exit the industry
and the remaining manufacturers gain market shares and become more powerful which create a
vicious circle.
An option to turn these threats into opportunities could be to manage to set–up agreements with
smaller shoe manufacturers. The manufacturers' activity would be sustain by producing some on–
order shoes while the independent retails would benefit from both higher margins and better
opportunity to differentiate the offer.
However, in order to be successful, this project requires advanced shoes development and design
knowledge and strong trust relationships between the entities.

The shoe industry seems to regain some stability after the dim past years of recession. The industry
is a mature market undergoing some crucial changes that players need to consider carefully. On one

Shoes For High School
Three years ago, I started my journey to provide shoes for the fifth graders attending the J.B. Sutton
Elementary School. Now, three schools in the same school district were given shoes for their fifth
grade students. However, if an individual would have told the fifteen–year–old me that one day this
would be happening, I would have laughed because the challenges of providing shoes for one school
were astronomical. It would entail that the shoe committee would need to raise $4,000, measure
around 300 feet, and find a way to deliver all of the shoes to the children. Other challenges that
arose over the years were the schools' administration changing frequently and having to explain
what our mission was and why we were providing the shoes. Furthermore, another dilemma was
that the fifth grade students were regularly be absent, suspended, or relocate to a different school
district, which inhibited the team from garnering proper shoe sizes and totals. Another exceedingly
oppressing obstacle our team would face was dealing with a student who was wearing a shoe that
was undersized. For instance, our compassion would compel us to ask why the child wasn't wearing
the proper shoe size and they would answer with chagrin because it would be due to their parents

Hope is the sole reason as to why we provide the shoes because the hope that one pair of shoes gives
these kids is capable of changing their lives. Furthermore, this hope acts a catalyst that enables them

shoes emphasize that somebody outside of their community cares for them. Moreover, the bounty is
not the "warm and fuzzy feeling," it is knowing that the time and love poured into a pair of shoes

Girly Flats
People say that one should never judge a book by it's cover, but what is the difference in that and
then judging someone by the shoes they are wearing? Personality is defined as a mixture of
characteristics that form one's original character. In many cases, one might stare at someone's shoes
and almost immediately know a lot about them as a person. Flats, boots, and heels are the most
general groups of shoes. The neutral ones, the practical ones, and the vivid ones describe personality
traits that go along with these groups of shoes. The neutral ones label a class of shoes known as
flats. Common types of flats consist of flip flops, girly flats, and converses. Wearing flip flops can
mean that someone is a very casual person, but when worn on an everyday occasion it can mean that
a person is immature and irresponsible. Girly flats can be worn by someone who is an overall sweet
and modest person or someone who is generally a follower. Converses can mean that one is easy–
going. This means that this person is usually more calm and relaxed. On the other hand, as one gets
older wearing this shoe could mean that they have yet to let go of the past. The practical ones
include different types of boots. The more familiar types of boots contain ankle boots, knee–high
boots, thigh– high boots, and cowboy boots. One who wears ... Show more content on

creative or fun. The kitten heels have just enough heel to get someone through the day. Stilettos are

wedges seem to be more down to earth. Since these are easier to walk in they are worn for style and

En Pointe Shoes: A Peep Into The Dance World
A peep into the ballet world
In order for a dancer to go en pointe a (s)he must develop a certain amount of muscles that include,
core muscles, leg muscles, lower back, and ankles. If a dancer goes en pointe without building those
muscles it could really damage his or hers feet. On the bright side there are many very interesting
things about ballet and pointe shoes. While en pointe or dancing in general the body muscles must
be in use which consist of closed ribs, pulling up under belly button, turn hips out, ankles being
turned out, lastly push tail bone down. While en pointe and or just dancing without being en pointe
do all those things plus balance body weight and breath. While 65% of dancers go en pointe at an

While dancing especially ballet there are a number of things that need to be done to make it look so
easy. First pull up underneath the belly button, ribs should be closed like (s)he has on a corset,
shoulders should be down, the neck is extended while the chin is also up, chest is out with
confidence, hips should be rotating back the whole time to maintain that turnout, turnout the ankles
too, tail bone is down , and only natural arch in back. Just have fun and dance with confidence,
grace, and beauty. There are many different positions in the ballet world but for now here are the
basic one's. First position of the feet is when the heels are touching while the hips were rotated and
turned out. Second position is like first except the feet are spread apart but still turned out. Third
position, is where the arch of the foot is next to the heel of the foot and always turned out meaning
the feet are going different ways. Second to last is fifth position is like heel toe, heel toe for example
the heel of the right foot is in front of the heel of the left foot and the same for the other foot. Lastly
sixth position, the heels are touching and the toes are touching but this time the feet are turned in.
The language ballet is spoken is French because ballet started in France. Pli`e means to bend,
Fondue which means to melt or to sink down, and lastly

On October 6th, 2017 Eliza Minden from Gaynor Minden Inc. approached us with an offer she says
could save us over $1 million a year. She proposes to deliver high–performance ballet shoes for no
cost and in return we endorse her company Gaynor Minden Inc. Minden claims the ballet shoes
have high–impact support and toe cushions, and are much less expensive then the ballet shoes the
company is already using. Minden's ballet shoes are reusable and instead of the company spending

Our organization purchases new shoes for our ballet dancers for each show, this is one of the
numerous ways that Minden offers to spare us cash every year by giving us shoes that have
durability. In spite of the fact that the shoes are sturdy the significance of fit and comfort fall short
with Minden 's pointe shoe.

Figure 3:
While continuing to stress the significance of fit and comfort as there alternate qualities go on. The
best pointe for ballet dancers is exclusively up to the dancer themselves and their own personal
preference. If a dancer does not have pointe shoes that are comfortable to them then that will effect
their performance in the long way. To further my research I personally survey the NBT company
dancers while they practice in Gaynor Minden's ' pointe shoe. The artists practiced in the shoes from
October 7th to the 11th. I examined every dancer in order to decide whether they loved Minden 's
model over the present organization 's Capezio model. I also gathered individual statements from the
dancers about how they felt about Minden 's model. You can see my out come underneath in Figure

NBT COMPANY DANCER PREFERNCE
The dancers did find Gaynor Minden pointe shoes to have longevity, but they still felt the shoes
were uncomfortable and stiff. When surveying the dancers I came to find out that 66% of the
dancers preferred the companies Capezio pointe shoe over Minden's pointe shoe.

We all know that sneaker is an attire to be worn on our feet which becoming one of the successful

Let Me Start By Telling A Interview Essay
Let me start by telling a short story about someone I know. She spent weeks applying to jobs, and
one afternoon, she got a call from her number one choice asking for an interview. While at the
interview, she was asked several questions about her prior education and qualifications. The boss
was very impressed with what he had heard, and he told her that her interview was the best one he
has had in years. At the conclusion of the interview, the boss stood to shake her hand; however,
when she stood to return the shake, her crop top that she wore under her blazer was revealed. She
never got a call back saying she got the job.
The way one dresses for an interview, whether the interview be for a job, internship, or scholarship,
can determine whether or not he gets the position or whatever for which he has applied. Some
people think that, in order to look professional, a lot of money has to be spent on clothes and shoes.
However, a report from the Institute for College Access and Success shows that students who earned
a bachelor's degree in 2012 accumulated an average debt of $29,000, which is an estimated increase
of six percent per year from 2008 to 2012 (Study 2014).
With students consistently having to spend more money on education, most students cannot afford
to go out and buy new business professional or casual clothing; however, this is not a bad thing.

Personal Narrative Essay : My Mission Trip To Guatemala
As I stepped out of the airport, followed by my family, I was unprepared for the snowfall and icy
pavement that is so commonplace in January in Michigan. If I had thought enough about it, I would
have worn winter boots on the plane and maybe brought my puffy white coat to block the wind.
Instead, I stood shivering in brand new, pink ballet–flat shoes, while snowflakes filled my eyelashes.
Too be fair, I had just returned from Guatemala, where the coldest temperature had been 50 degrees
at night time but raised to the 70s or 80s by afternoon. I had nearly forgotten that in the same
moments my dad and I were sweating in jeans and t–shirts, my mom and sister were back home,
freezing under three layers of clothing. However, despite my lack of preparedness, I glanced down
at the pink shoes on my feet in joy and gratitude for the experiences and memories I had gained on
my mission trip to Guatemala.
Much to my surprise, it had not taken a lot to convince my dad to let me tag along on a mission trip
to Guatemala with him. The company my dad worked for, Family Christian Stores, held multiple
mission trips each year to various locations. My dad had already been to Mexico, and was assigned
to a group going to Guatemala next. Upon learning that I wanted to go, he assured me that it would
not be a trip full of sightseeing or activities, but rather a time to give back to a community in need.
After promising that I understood the hard work that would be involved, my dad agreed to let me

tailored specifically for the activity. Running shoes will protect the feet based on the impact that
running has on the heels of the foot. They will be cushioned in strategic areas to provide relief from
heel pain or stress fractures caused by impact activities.

Theme Chart Analysis
Using the Grounds Theory approach our group determined and analyzed the common themes on
social media surrounding the Toms Shoes brand. We created a Theme chart and a sub–theme chart
from the largest theme. These charts can be seen below. The top three themes were 1) Social Justice,
which was mainly comprised of soundbites focused on the Toms One For One motto and their
positive impact on those less fortunate 2) Style, which was largely focused on the look of the shoes
and 3) what we named Purchase/ want, this category was comprised of soundbites in which people
were talking about a purchase they had just made or stating that they really wanted to purchase a

Then we set the custom date range from April 10th, 2012 to June 15th, 2012. There were 621
mentions. People mentioned One Day Without Shoes mostly on the event date and then it began to
decrease and stopped within a week. There were 88% positive and 12% negative comments. Some
people thought it was nasty and gross to go without shoes in crowded or public areas, but the
majority thought that it supported a good cause and were willing as well as excited to join the
campaign. Many people shared their good experience of being barefoot on that day, which is what
we expected. However, similar to the analysis of the pre event date, the number of mentions quite
still pretty small. Most of the stream came from twitter.
We recommend Toms improve their campaign. Not entirely change the campaign but make a minor
change in order to make it more exciting and so that it is not exactly the same every year. We think
that this will help boost participation and therefore awareness of the brands mission. One way Toms
could accomplish this is by arranging a video competition, which would ask people to make their
own video doing their daily activities barefoot. They would then be asked to post the videos on
Toms Facebook. Whomevers video got the most 'likes' would win a reward or prize. Perhaps even a
trip to one of the countries where Toms gives there shoes away so that the dedicated customer could

Case Study : Charleston Shoe Company Essay
CSC, or better known as Charleston Shoe Company to the general public, is a local comfort brand
that sells stylish shoes to women. CSC is a specific lexis that only members of Charleston Shoe
Company would understand. This feature is defined by John Swales, who defines a discourse
community in his book Genre Analysis. CSC recognizes that many women have problems with their
feet, which can include bunions, high insteps, and plantars fasciitis. The Charleston shoes have
elastic uppers so that the shoe can form to the foot, which makes them extremely comfortable while
they remain in style. While the members of Charleston Shoe Company may seem like a regular
group of people, in reality, it is a tight knit discourse community. According to John Swales, a
discourse community has six identifying characteristics, all in which need to be present to decide if
a community is a discourse community. The six characteristics include: Common goals, a system of
intercommunication between members, participation that leads to information and feedback, one or
more genres of communication, a specific lexis and a balance between levels of expertise (471–3). It
was important that Swales created a definition of discourse community because all previous
definitions were either too vague or were not clear in how to identify a discourse community (469).
Now that it has been properly defined, one can see that discourse communities and rhetoric have a
direct correlation.

Descriptive Essay: My First Jazz Concert
You'd think that after more than 11 concerts the adrenaline of being on stage would have died down
a bit. It hasn't. I've danced since I was 3 and every time I go onstage the rush is the same. Concert
has always been the biggest event in May. I love it almost as much as the last day of school. Concert
2016 was my favorite out of all the years that I've danced. I wake up and immediately start getting
ready for concert. Getting ready consists of my mom trying to do a dutch braid while I do my
concert makeup. I hear my mom let out a frustrated sigh because the braid won't stay in. She's tried
about 30 million times. She has sprayed so much hairspray that it's strangling me in the small room.
I stop her and just say I'll do it backstage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our Jazz dance goes by too fast. My group finishes our part of the dance and walk off stage while
the other group finishes their part. As soon as I get past the wings of the stage, I start taking off my
jazz costume, this is the fastest quick change that I had ever done. People are waiting by my stuff
ready to help me. My tights are waiting, all scrunched up so that I can slip into them fast and Rachel
is holding my pink costume. It's dark backstage so I have to squint to see the my stuff. I'm panting
like a dog after the jazz routine and backstage feels like it's a hundred degrees. I drop to the ground
to tie my pointes. I reach out and feel the silk on my pointe shoe. Everything's in slow motion as I
panic to finish my quick change. An older dancer shows up and starts helping me put on my pointes
because the other people helping me don't know how. I hear the music end and realize there is only
one dance and it's the 3 year olds. That means I have 1 minute. I tie my pointes shoes the fastest I
have ever tied them, the adrenaline kicking in. It feels like I've taken a hundred years to tie a single
pointe shoe. I jump up and run to the wing where we enter. I see the other people in my pointe dance
finishing their quick change. The music starts to fade out from the 3 year olds and the bright lights
fade off. We run on as silently as we can in pointe shoes and get in starting position. The lights turn
on and the instrumental version of "Stairway To Heaven" starts playing. We danced our hearts out in
those few minutes. When we finish the dance it's like a huge weight has been lifted off my
shoulders. Then comes hip–hop and then bows. My age group bows and we dance dance back
clapping to the beat. More age groups come on, the carefree music cheering. The teachers come on
and we cheer along with the crowd, our cheers silencing out the music and the curtains close. Then
the concert was over. We had finished

The Evolution Of Pointe Shoes
Pointe shoes are the symbol of the ballerina and they have had a huge impact on the history of
dance. They are way more complex than what we tend to think and throughout this essay we will go
over their creation, how they're structured, and how they impacted ballet.
In the early 1700s, the technique of ballet developed rapidly and incorporated a new emphasis on
graceful foot technique. In 1726, Marie Camargo debuted at the Paris Opéra Ballet in a performance
of Les Caractères de la Danse, dancing in slippers instead of heeled shoes. She had also shortened
her stage skirt to show off the turnout of her legs and feet as well as her bas de jambe during
entrechats. After the French Revolution in 1789, emphasis was placed on the functional aspect ...

This resulted in a demand for more elaborate pointe shoes. A wide range of designs were on the
market: from soft block shoes, which are designed for transition from soft shoes to pointe shoes, to
extremely hard shoes, which give extra strength, to machine–manufactured rehearsal pointes for
dance students operating on a smaller budget. About thirty–five ballet shoe manufacturers, such as
Freed, Grishko, Bloch, Capezio, and Gaynor Minden operate in the market. At the end of the
twentieth century, the fashion industry picked up the idea of ribbons and look–alike pointe shoes,
and designer brands such as Manolo Blahnik, Sonia Rykiel, Etro, and Blumarine have used the
pointe shoe style to create "ballerina" fashion shoes.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, an increasingly challenging ballet technique, en demi
pointe, allowed dancers to carry out multiple pirouettes and jumps. While men were identified as
playing a secondary role in the performance, from this point onward ballerinas rose to the toes and
contributed to a new dance aesthetic. This overt emphasis on the lightness of dancers was reflected
by Marie Taglioni, who appeared sur les pointes in the first performance of La Sylphide in 1832.
Some early examples of pointe shoes from this period are exhibited in the Haydn Museum in

"OK, calm down," she attempted using mom voice, but her upturned lips and her laughing eyes
couldn't disguise the fact that she was just as excited as I was.
"Fine," I moaned falsely, strolling up to the door with a pep in my step. I gripped the metal

Ethos On Shoes Essay
Sandals...tennis shoes...heels...flip–flops. I am a teen girl and as the saying goes, "you can never

have all the necessities that I need in life, but never felt spoiled or that my expectations were too
high. As I look at my closet filled with shoes, I think back to David. David was a little first grade
boy I knew from the Ready Set Teach program. A little boy who struggled for everything he had in
life and whose tattered shoes ironically touched my soul.
David lived a life I had never experienced. He was not your typical student wearing new clothes at
the beginning of the year. David usually wore the same tattered outfit that did not fit properly. The
teacher would give him a snack as the other students would eat crackers that they had brought from
home. He did not let these hardships affect his attitude. He was one of the hardest working students

I Believe in Sneakers
I Believe in Sneakers
It all started with a Jumpman and a swoosh, it was more than just a shoe it was the start of a culture.
What most people look at as just a shoe to protect their feet has a story behind it and a deeper
meaning to me and many others than "just a pair of shoes". Don't put on a pair of shoes unless you
know how to wear them right. For every pair I own I could explain the troubles I went through and
the people I met to get each sneaker. The best feeling was opening that fresh shoe box and taking out
that paper wrapping. Putting on each new pair of sneakers is like taking a breath of fresh air each
pair crisp as bacon. I am one among many sneakerheads, people who love to buy, sell, trade, and
collect rare shoes. There is a culture, lifestyle, and history behind sneaker collecting. Most people
would think dropping hundreds if not thousands on a pair of shoes is crazy but I believe sneakers are
essential.
It all started my freshman year in high school when I noticed my friends Jordan's that he had waited
hours outside of a shoe store for. At the time they were some of the coolest shoes I had ever seen, I
wanted a pair like that. I took a deeper look into retro Jordan's and found out that most were really
hard to get. You couldn't just go to your nearest shoe store and just pick up the pair you wanted. You
would have to drops hundreds of dollars on a pair that others camped out for or woke up hours early
to get on the nike.com release of the shoe.

  • 5. Well Fitting Shoes Research Paper When people think about their work uniform, they often forget to consider their shoes. Unfortunately, this neglect can lead to fatigue, soreness, and chronic pain in your feet. To put it in perspective, almost 75% of all Americans will experience foot problems in their lifetime––typically as a result of neglect and ill–fitting shoes. That's why it's so important to make an educated, intentional decision when pairing shoes with your uniform. If you know how to find a great pair of shoes, you can avoid many of the problems associated with a lifetime of working on your feet. Feet are often different from one another, and your feet's size changes as you age. The trick is to measure both feet and then buy shoes for the larger of the two. Consider The Soles Once fit is established, most people turn immediately to aesthetic considerations when purchasing their shoes. It's not quite time to do that yet, though. The soles of your shoes play an important role in how they'll function––vital considerations for shoes in the workplace. If your job requires you to walk over uneven terrain, thicker soles are a great choice for the added cushion they provide. Thinner soles offer more control, but lack cushion and often wear through quicker than other shoes. Matching the proper sole to your job and environment is critical. Friction Is The Enemy Since your occupation could require you to take a significant number of steps, it's important to buy shoes that eliminate rubbing. The repeated friction of shoe against foot can cause a significant amount of irritation––and could even lead to infection. This is particularly true if you don't wear thick ... They were a canvas material and the sole was rubber to have them be inexpensive and wearable during sports. Plimsolls were essential in the summer time because they kept your feet cool and they also dried quickly from water. The all white Plimsolls became a fashion statement for Victorian promenades, which they wore them with Madras jackets and flannels (Kippen, 2008). When the middle class started getting more into sports, such as tennis, the material of the sneaker became more adaptable for the activity. The magazine "Complex Sneakers" listed Adidas Stan Smith 4th place from 50 of the greatest sneakers of all time (Leaventon, 2012). Known for its classic, minimalistic style people love wearing for a fashion statement rather then just a tennis shoe. Adidas has a way to include everyone into their target market, they think about what is missing and create a solution. In 2005, Adidas collaborated with designer Stella McCartney to create a women's line. Now, three schools in the same school district were given shoes for their fifth grade students. However, if an individual would have told the fifteen–year–old me that one day this would be happening, I would have laughed because the challenges of providing shoes for one school were astronomical. It would entail that the shoe committee would need to raise $4,000, measure around 300 feet, and find a way to deliver all of the shoes to the children. Other challenges that arose over the years were the schools' administration changing frequently and having to explain what our mission was and why we were providing the shoes. Furthermore, another dilemma was that the fifth grade students were regularly be absent, suspended, or relocate to a different school district, which inhibited the team from garnering proper shoe sizes and totals. Another exceedingly oppressing obstacle our team would face was dealing with a student who was wearing a shoe that was undersized. For instance, our compassion would compel us to ask why the child wasn't wearing the proper shoe size and they would answer with chagrin because it would be due to their parents not being able to buy them a ... • 24. Girly Flats People say that one should never judge a book by it's cover, but what is the difference in that and then judging someone by the shoes they are wearing? Personality is defined as a mixture of characteristics that form one's original character. In many cases, one might stare at someone's shoes and almost immediately know a lot about them as a person. Flats, boots, and heels are the most general groups of shoes. The neutral ones, the practical ones, and the vivid ones describe personality traits that go along with these groups of shoes. The neutral ones label a class of shoes known as flats. Common types of flats consist of flip flops, girly flats, and converses. Wearing flip flops can mean that someone is a very casual person, but when worn on an everyday occasion it can mean that a person is immature and irresponsible. Girly flats can be worn by someone who is an overall sweet and modest person or someone who is generally a follower. Converses can mean that one is easy– going. This means that this person is usually more calm and relaxed. On the other hand, as one gets older wearing this shoe could mean that they have yet to let go of the past. En Pointe Shoes: A Peep Into The Dance World A peep into the ballet world In order for a dancer to go en pointe a (s)he must develop a certain amount of muscles that include, core muscles, leg muscles, lower back, and ankles. If a dancer goes en pointe without building those muscles it could really damage his or hers feet. On the bright side there are many very interesting things about ballet and pointe shoes. While en pointe or dancing in general the body muscles must be in use which consist of closed ribs, pulling up under belly button, turn hips out, ankles being turned out, lastly push tail bone down. She spent weeks applying to jobs, and one afternoon, she got a call from her number one choice asking for an interview. While at the interview, she was asked several questions about her prior education and qualifications. The boss was very impressed with what he had heard, and he told her that her interview was the best one he has had in years. At the conclusion of the interview, the boss stood to shake her hand; however, when she stood to return the shake, her crop top that she wore under her blazer was revealed. She never got a call back saying she got the job. The way one dresses for an interview, whether the interview be for a job, internship, or scholarship, can determine whether or not he gets the position or whatever for which he has applied. Personal Narrative Essay : My Mission Trip To Guatemala As I stepped out of the airport, followed by my family, I was unprepared for the snowfall and icy pavement that is so commonplace in January in Michigan. If I had thought enough about it, I would have worn winter boots on the plane and maybe brought my puffy white coat to block the wind. Instead, I stood shivering in brand new, pink ballet–flat shoes, while snowflakes filled my eyelashes. Too be fair, I had just returned from Guatemala, where the coldest temperature had been 50 degrees at night time but raised to the 70s or 80s by afternoon. I had nearly forgotten that in the same moments my dad and I were sweating in jeans and t–shirts, my mom and sister were back home, freezing under three layers of clothing. However, despite my lack of preparedness, I glanced down at the pink shoes on my feet in joy and gratitude for the experiences and memories I had gained on my mission trip to Guatemala. Much to my surprise, it had not taken a lot to convince my dad to let me tag along on a mission trip to Guatemala with him. The company my dad worked for, Family Christian Stores, held multiple mission trips each year to various locations. My dad had already been to Mexico, and was assigned to a group going to Guatemala next. Some people thought it was nasty and gross to go without shoes in crowded or public areas, but the majority thought that it supported a good cause and were willing as well as excited to join the campaign. They would then be asked to post the videos on Toms Facebook. Whomevers video got the most 'likes' would win a reward or prize. CSC is a specific lexis that only members of Charleston Shoe Company would understand. This feature is defined by John Swales, who defines a discourse community in his book Genre Analysis. CSC recognizes that many women have problems with their feet, which can include bunions, high insteps, and plantars fasciitis. The Charleston shoes have elastic uppers so that the shoe can form to the foot, which makes them extremely comfortable while they remain in style. While the members of Charleston Shoe Company may seem like a regular group of people, in reality, it is a tight knit discourse community. According to John Swales, a discourse community has six identifying characteristics, all in which need to be present to decide if a community is a discourse community. The six characteristics include: Common goals, a system of intercommunication between members, participation that leads to information and feedback, one or more genres of communication, a specific lexis and a balance between levels of expertise (471–3). It was important that Swales created a definition of discourse community because all previous definitions were either too vague or were not clear in how to identify a discourse community (469). Concert 2016 was my favorite out of all the years that I've danced. I wake up and immediately start getting ready for concert. Getting ready consists of my mom trying to do a dutch braid while I do my concert makeup. I hear my mom let out a frustrated sigh because the braid won't stay in. She's tried about 30 million times. They are way more complex than what we tend to think and throughout this essay we will go over their creation, how they're structured, and how they impacted ballet. In the early 1700s, the technique of ballet developed rapidly and incorporated a new emphasis on graceful foot technique. In 1726, Marie Camargo debuted at the Paris Opéra Ballet in a performance of Les Caractères de la Danse, dancing in slippers instead of heeled shoes. She had also shortened her stage skirt to show off the turnout of her legs and feet as well as her bas de jambe during entrechats. After the French Revolution in 1789, emphasis was placed on the functional aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This resulted in a demand for more elaborate pointe shoes. A wide range of designs were on the market: from soft block shoes, which are designed for transition from soft shoes to pointe shoes, to extremely hard shoes, which give extra strength, to machine–manufactured rehearsal pointes for dance students operating on a smaller budget. About thirty–five ballet shoe manufacturers, such as Freed, Grishko, Bloch, Capezio, and Gaynor Minden operate in the market. At the end of the twentieth century, the fashion industry picked up the idea of ribbons and look–alike pointe shoes, and designer brands such as Manolo Blahnik, Sonia Rykiel, Etro, and Blumarine have used the pointe shoe style to create "ballerina" fashion shoes. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, an increasingly challenging ballet technique, en demi pointe, allowed dancers to carry out multiple pirouettes and jumps. While men were identified as playing a secondary role in the performance, from this point onward ballerinas rose to the toes and contributed to a new dance aesthetic. This overt emphasis on the lightness of dancers was reflected by Marie Taglioni, who appeared sur les pointes in the first performance of La Sylphide in 1832. • 79. I Believe in Sneakers I Believe in Sneakers It all started with a Jumpman and a swoosh, it was more than just a shoe it was the start of a culture. What most people look at as just a shoe to protect their feet has a story behind it and a deeper meaning to me and many others than "just a pair of shoes". Don't put on a pair of shoes unless you know how to wear them right. For every pair I own I could explain the troubles I went through and the people I met to get each sneaker. The best feeling was opening that fresh shoe box and taking out that paper wrapping. Putting on each new pair of sneakers is like taking a breath of fresh air each pair crisp as bacon. I am one among many sneakerheads, people who love to buy, sell, trade, and collect rare shoes. There is a culture, lifestyle, and history behind sneaker collecting. Most people would think dropping hundreds if not thousands on a pair of shoes is crazy but I believe sneakers are essential. It all started my freshman year in high school when I noticed my friends Jordan's that he had waited hours outside of a shoe store for. At the time they were some of the coolest shoes I had ever seen, I wanted a pair like that. I took a deeper look into retro Jordan's and found out that most were really hard to get. You couldn't just go to your nearest shoe store and just pick up the pair you wanted. You would have to drops hundreds of dollars on a pair that others camped out for or woke up hours early to get on the nike.com release of the shoe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
