Persuasive Essay On Plastic Surgery
"Everyone has his heart into beautiful things." It is a famous quote in China, which reveals it is a
world that everybody goes after beauty. Those born beauties are lucky, but there are many people
feel inferior about their appearance. It is one of the main reasons why plastic surgery and especially
cosmetic surgery is now rapidly developing. Plastic surgery is risky; even a small operation can be
traumatic, and it will be a risk of trauma as well. However, this does not mean that cosmetic surgery
cannot be done. It is usually safe as long as the patients go to the regular hospitals, but not the
personal clinics.
The true value of a person certainly does not depend a star sort light,or fresh brilliant of beautiful
outward appearance, the accomplishment of more important oneself, is the spiritual beauty of
accomplishment to anyone. Confidence comes from the approval of oneself, appearance is not as
important as character. The spiritual beauty is the true beauty of human, but many people are too
blind to see this fact, that is why the cases of plastic surgeries keep increasing. Every coin has two
sides, as cosmetic surgery helps people improve their appearance, it can also destroy people because
of the serious sequel. Many people agree that the starting point for plastic surgery has good
intentions, but its development and impact has beyond people's imagination.
During the period of World War I and World War II, innumerable soldiers had injured, burned and
disfigured. It had allowed plastic surgery to shine in the world. People started to understand and
accept plastic surgery at that time, it was an unprecedented break in the history of medical field.
Plastic surgery helped improved soldiers' appearance back then; recently, as modern plastic
surgery developed rapidly, it actually provided a better life for people in some ways: "modern
plastic surgery is aiming at providing a better life for people who could have been isolated because
of their deformities, such as deformities after trauma, burns, facial deformities after tumor surgery,
and congenital craniofacial deformities" (Kim). Tagliacozzi, who was known as the father of plastic
surgery, had successfully reconstructed a patient's nose in fifteen century

Your final result from plastic surgery will be determined far more by your choice of surgeon than
by which facelift technique is used or which breast implant you choose. Not only is this your most
important choice, it is also the hardest one to make. One thing on your side is that this is elective
surgery, and totally non–urgent. If you make a pact with yourself to wait until you are 100%
comfortable, you will have the breathing space to choose the right plastic surgeon for yourself.
Realize that there are two sets of issues to look at, one objective, and the other subjective.
Objectively, you must determine that the plastic surgeon is safe and well–trained. Only after they
have cleared that hurdle, can you look at the subjective criteria, namely whether the doctor's ability,
aesthetic, style, and approach is a good match for you.
To "clear" a doctor, you must do the following:
Assure that the doctor is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This is the only board
recognized to credential plastic surgeons. Beware of "bogus" boards – mail order certificates to hang
on the wall, as well as people who are board certified, but not in plastic surgery specifically.
Check to be sure that the doctor is a member in good standing in the three major plastic surgery
societies, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, and
the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Be sure that the plastic surgeon operates in a fully licensed and accredited surgical facility. Believe
it or not, some doctors today – in violation of state law – still attempt to do surgery in facilities that
are not licensed.
Though in no way required to be a bonafide and respected plastic surgeon, you may want to check
to see if the plastic surgeon is also certified by the American Board of Surgery. Prior to specializing
in plastic surgery, most plastic surgeons train as general surgeons, which includes trauma surgery,
thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, surgical critical care, breast cancer surgery and much more. Being
certified by the American Board of Surgery indicates that the plastic surgeon has been recognized for
their proficiency in these subjects. Even though the plastic surgeon

" To men a man but a mind. Who cares what face he carries or what he wears? But woman's body
is still the woman. "(Bierce,1958). People nowadays want to be more beautiful and perfect. They
will do anything to fulfill their needs. Cosmetic surgery is modern variation of a practice as old as
humankind. Every culture has some customs that prescribe deliberately changing a body's natural
appearance (Brain, 1979). The methods, however, are diverse and particular to a culture at a specific
period of time. The body customs may be merely decorative, if not, most have social significance.
For certain culture and religion, the body modification is used to communicate power, group
membership, individual status and social identity. Until now, the...show more content...
Besides that, most people are going for cosmetic surgery because they have the urge to be better
accepted by the society. Aristotle's belief that, "Beauty is a greater recommendation than any letter
of introduction" remains as true today as in ancient times. The favourable expectations experienced
by attractive people make physical beauty a goal for many. The rewards of attractiveness even
begin at birth since parents are more affectionate and attentive with attractive babies (Langlois,
1986). For some people, looking old is not an option because staying youthful is the priority for their
career such as those who are in the entertainment industry. For some, it is just for personal pleasure
and satisfaction. The pursuit of beauty is a big business in modern societies. Americans spend 20
billion dollars annually on products advertised to enhance appearance. Yet, for many, this is not
enough. Dissatisfaction with personal appearance is widespread, particularly among women.
Surveys indicate that one–half are unhappy with one or more aspects of their bodies (Cash, 1997).
While dissatisfaction with owns beauty is the main reason for the rise in popularity of cosmetic
surgery, but it is also causes consecutive reasons for its growth. As the demand is getting higher, the
industry is getting bigger and clinics are springing up like

Plastic surgery is a fad that society has forced upon us by comparing average looking people to
above average looking people and saying "I can make you look like them, I can make you
beautiful". Due to people's insecurities with themselves and their constant comparing their bodies to
others, they get plastic surgery to get their confidence back.
According to healthcareworkersalary.com, a plastic surgeon makes in between $286,00 and
$424,000 a year their starting salary being almost double to that of a regular unspecialized doctor.
People go to school for 11–15 years to become a plastic surgery, since it's a specialized field. Being a
plastic surgeon is relatively stressful as they work odd hours on sometimes very complicated cases.
The most common plastic surgery procedure for women to receive is a breast augmentation. The
most common plastic surgery procedure for men to receive is a rhinoplasty (plasticsurgery.org,2016
plastic surgery statistics, American society of plastic surgeons, 2017). Caucasian women are more
prone to receive breast implants than other races.
In a cartoon by Dave Carpenter, two men tell a stranger, "No, we're not related. We just have the
same plastic surgeon." This pokes fun at the tendency for plastic surgery patients to appear generic
afterward (teenink.com, Melodybee, plastic surgery: an ugly trend, 2013). South Korea is now being
chastised for all their Ms. Daegu pageant contestants having plastic surgery and coming out almost
identical due their similar requests for outcomes and how the doctor performs the surgeries
(gawker.com, plastic surgeon blamed for making all miss Korea contestants look alike, 2013,
Neetzan Zimmerman). Currently South Korea holds the title for country with most plastic surgery,
America being number six (abcnews.go.com, Nip/Tuck Nations: 7 countries with most plastic
surgery, Mikaela Conely, 2012).
When I think about plastic surgery I think of tight, unnatural looking faces of celebrities in
Hollywood, but face lifts and Botox are the only forms of plastic surgery. But apparently there are
many types of surgeries I never knew about. Some of the oddest plastic surgery procedures I found
while researching was that you can get dimples, a six pack,

American's spent nearly $16 billion dollars on cosmetic surgery last year. Plastic surgery, also
known as cosmetic surgery is a process of reconstructing or repairing different parts of the human
body. The first ever documented plastic surgery was a breast augmentation in 1895, the first implant
was made out of paraffin, beeswax, and vegetable oil. Plastic surgery for the future of humanity will
be bigger and the new advancements will affect it in a negative manner. Even though the
advancements will be new and bigger, the treatments will be more dangerous, and much more
expensive as the technology and clientele grows. Plastic surgery has been making a dent in our
wallets and our self esteem, plastic surgery claims to enhance the beauty of different body parts,
but in reality it lowers your self esteem as people see images of others with plastic surgery and
aspire to be just like the people they see on billboards, movie screens, social media, and magazine
covers, but in reality its all plastic. Anyone who decides to go under the knife has a risk of dying,
but some people would rather risk their own life than have a crooked nose. To begin, plastic
surgery will have expanded majorly. This will have a huge impact on humanity, from our self
esteem to our wallets. Men and Women all over the world have been getting plastic surgery since
late 1800's. The first ever documented legal plastic surgery was to correct a woman's breast

"Studies have shown that people report increased satisfaction with the body part they had surgery

It's no secret that celebrities and people from the upper class have plastic surgery. The United States
is a leading country in plastic surgery where cosmetic surgery has become trendy. Why do more and
more people decide to have plastic surgery? Many people blindly think that in modern society, youth
and beauty are wealth that could create opportunities for them and make them become more
competitive. Therefore, some women spare no effort to fawn upon rich men through having plastic
surgery so as to live a life they desire. In today's competitive job market, some people believe that
an artificially enhanced appearance can give them an edge over their competitors. While beauty may
be only skin–deep, it is the first thing that a prospective employer sees and will judge upon. Inner
desire urges people to have plastic surgery. The desire for beauty is universal. One could instantly
acquire external beauty through plastic surgery, so it could satisfy people's eager desire for
beauty. Some positive effects and advertising publicized after plastic surgery make people believe
that plastic surgery could help them enhance confidence, experience happiness and step towards
happiness and a better life. The impetuous psychology of following the trend also expands the
group of people who have plastic surgery (Dittmann). One might feel behind the fashion if
everybody else has plastic surgery except him or her. Some people who have plastic surgery even

confidence and boost their self–esteem, but it is something that can have very serious consequences
people need to be aware of.
Plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery is a surgical procedure without a medical indication.
Plastic surgery is like a form of art because it's often a perceived beautification of the human body.
It's becoming a trend it's a well–known category of medical treatment. People don't realize the
effectiveness of those acts, they're exposed to crucial risks and consequences. Despite this trend
towards increasing rates of cosmetic surgery, this appearance change strategy is not without
numerous risks and consequences. Patients risk the development of physical conditions including
persistent pain, blood loss, skin loss, scarring, skin discoloration, prolonged swelling, tissue death,
infections, loss of sensation, nerve damage, cardiac and pulmonary complications, blood clots, fluid
accumulation, deep vein thrombosis, asymmetry of facial features, wound separation, and poor
healing. The few benefits I listed above, the drawbacks of plastic surgery are copious and severe.
It's extremely expensive, a single procedure ranges from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Plastic surgery has its' good sides but it also has its' bad sides, the risks to plastic surgery are
horrible. They're always risks when people decide to go under the knife. If something goes wrong ,
results could be irreversible. Most common risks are organ and nerve damages, chronic pain,

Plastic surgery is the first thing people would think of when they're feeling down on what they
look like. For many people, plastic surgery is considered to be very beneficial. It could release
people from anxiety and allowed them to take on obstacles that they've never tried before. Some
celebrities on television may look like they're in their late 20s, but they're actually in their 50s.
Plastic surgery is a treatment that gives aesthetics look or replaces a broken/burned part of a
person's body.
Many people have had plastic surgery to change their looks or prevent a broken part of the body to
be shown. "Just because the name includes the word plastic doesn't mean patients who have this
surgery end up with a face full of fake stuff (Gupta)." There are already procedures for most of the
human's body. However, taking plastic surgery should never be taken so lightly. Since there are
many types of plastic surgery, you'll be able to have a lot of options. Breast surgery can be
operated when women are feeling uncomfortable with their breasts. There is also breast reduction
to help from physical discomfort. Liposuction is used to vacuum fat from different parts of the
body. When operating, tools such as ultrasound, mechanical, and laser devices are used. Another
type is facial cosmetic surgery. Rhinoplasty is a surgery that reshapes the person's nose in order to

Why has society become so obsessed with being perfect? What's wrong with laugh lines near your
mouth, crow's feet by your eyes, and cellulite on your legs? Growing up in today's society puts a
lot of pressure on young men and women to look their best all of the time. People fear the changes
that naturally take place in the aging process and take drastic measures to alter their appearance. The
dangers of getting certain procedures such as botox and collagen injections, implants, and

Rhinoplasty, another name for a nose job, has been described as "the most difficult of all facial
plastic surgical procedures." As with all surgical procedures there are risks and benefits. When
deciding whether to have the surgery, the patient along with their surgeon needs to weigh the
benefits of rhinoplasty versus the risks and complications. Usually the person who is getting the
surgery only thinks of the benefits the nose job will bring them, which is usually just a
confidence booster. The serious risks that people take when they get rhinoplasty are difficulty
breathing, nose swelling and discoloration, nasal septal perforation (a hole in the nasal septum),
and probably the most important risk the shallow patient is probably thinking: the unsatisfactory
nasal appearance. In an episode of Botched, a famous television show solely based off of plastic
surgeries, a patient wanted her seventh nose job. Terry Dubrow, one of the surgeons state,
"Going into a field that's been operated on already six times, I know that the tissue is not going to
heal great. I know that there's also a risk of tissue death, and how great of a job I do the healing
may be off" (HollywoodLife). Just like Dubrow explains, sometimes no matter how good of a job
the surgeon does, the plastic surgery can heal wrong which can lead to major complications. Why

It is natural for women and men to want to improve their outer beauty as they age or when they are
young and are insecure about a certain part of their bodies. There is nothing wrong with it and at
some point, or another we all went through that stage in life where we just didn't feel comfortable in
our own bodies. Plastic surgery is what people usually go for when they are in this problem. There is
nothing wrong with plastic surgery, but recently people have been going overboard or they would
find a doctor in another country or on the black market in order to receive the surgery for a
cheaper price or receive a surgery that is illegal in the United States. When people go to the black
market or to another country the surgery usually leaves them in a condition that can possibly kill
the individual or leave their body disfigured or severely scarred. The ones who usually go to black
market surgeries or other countries are ones who are young and want a quick fix, people who can't
afford the surgery by a good doctor in America, or they want the surgery immediately and they
don't want to wait. At the end of the day, it is not worth the hassle of getting plastic surgery if one
is not willing to wait to be able to afford the surgery by an actual licensed doctor that has a good
reputation, or they don't actually think about it they just want it.
There is a TV show named Botched that is about two doctors who fix people who have gotten
plastic surgery either at a young age, out of the country, or in the black market and now the
surgery is either causing them pain or caused them to be disfigured. The show is meant to inform
people on the consequences of black market surgery, going outside of the United States for
surgery, and informing the laws related to plastic surgery. Often times women either in their early
twenties or mid to late thirties and forties come on the tv show saying they felt pressured to get the
surgery, but they couldn't afford the surgery, so they went to the black market to get it for cheap or
the surgery wasn't offered in the United States, so they went outside of the United States to find a

The society we live in today undoubtedly values attractiveness. We've grown up having been shown
that being attractive can get you somewhere in life. We have grown up reading fictional books about
a handsome or beautiful character saving the day. The superhero protagonist saves the world from
ultimate destruction and everyone thanks him or her. Crowds cheer, exclaiming that they've saved
the day and praise them.
Why do people alter their bodies? People change the way their appearance is, sometimes so much so
that they look nothing like their true selves. Plastic surgery is reconstructing, repairing, or changing a
part of the body. Most times in a way to enhance the looks of said person. There are many things
that would motivate someone to get plastic or cosmetic surgery done. Some of the causes for why
people get plastic surgery would be to reverse the signs of aging, a physical defect or deformity, a
confidence or career boost, and to fit in or be liked.
There have been many different trends in the world of plastic surgery, but the latest plastic
surgery trend is the "Melania Makeover" says Dr. Franklin Rose. He says that people previously
wanted to look like Ivanka Trump, but after Melania took office and became the first lady requests
to look like her "eclipsed" Ivanka Trump.
Claudia Sierra, a mother from Texas decided to go under the knife to get the "Melania makeover".
She underwent 8 procedures in one day, including a breast reduction, eyelid lift, and a brazilian
buttock lift. All these and more just to get the "Melania" look.
Another popular trend in the world of plastic surgery is fillers. Fillers can be used in many
different areas of the face. Whether they be used to get plump "Kylie Jenner" lips or to get those
Jennifer Aniston cheek bones. Fillers ingredients usually include collagen, hyaluronic acid, and
calcium hydroxyl apatite. These are then injected into the face in different areas and are used to
reduce wrinkles, help to reduce appearance of scars, enhance lips and "...replacing soft tissue

On top of claiming plastic surgery improves a person's lifestyle, many advocates for plastic surgery
justify their viewpoint by insisting that prospering in a profession requires going under the knife.
According to Penelope Trunk, American businesswoman, author and blogger who focuses on the
intersection between work and life,
Where you land at the beginning of your career affects the rest of your career. So the benefits of
fixing that nose or chin that has annoyed you your whole life should be done before graduation. So,
here's my advice to new grads: Tell your parents you want plastic surgery as a graduation gift. Hate
those thin lips? Fatten them up. I'm sorry. But adult life is hard. Getting a job is hard. And the
reality is that being bad–looking makes it harder. Plastic surgery is like an MBA. We already know
that timing is important for an MBA, and (women especially) need to get an MBA early for it
really to help their careers. Well, the same is true for plastic surgery. It's[plastic surgery] totally
okay to talk about and you can even do plastic surgery on credit.
While getting a head start in one's career increases their chance of becoming successful; perhaps
plastic surgery temporarily provides the boost a person needs to initiate their career. However, Trunk
uses the fallacies red herring, appeal to authority and slippery slope when she proposes that getting
cosmetic surgery automatically raises their chance of triumphing in their profession. Penelope Trunk
uses the fallacy red herring –– using an unrelated and insubstantial argument to distract someone ––
by completely deterring from the actual argument. Trunk starts off by mentioning the correlation
between plastic surgery and a person's career, stating that an improved outer appearance increases
the chance of someone getting a job. Instead of elaborating on her stance, she quickly switches to
talking about how getting an MBA early on is beneficial –– just like plastic surgery. Furthermore,
she then randomly goes on to talk about how accessible plastic surgery since it can be done on
credit. Instead of fortifying her initial claim, Trunk jumps from topic to topic in aim to distract the
reader from the true point of the argument. This leaves the

Imagine being insecure or unhappy with a certain aspect of your physical appearance. Now
imagine if there were a way to magically fix it, well there is a way and it is not so magical.
Cosmetic surgery is the solution for many men and women who want to change something about
their physical appearance. Many people try to fix something physical to make up for a bigger issue
they have about themselves deeper down. The first thing that is important to know when talking
about elective surgery is that there is a difference between plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery.
"Plastic surgery is defined as a surgical specialty dedicated to reconstruction of facial and body
defects due to birth disorders, trauma, burns, and disease" while cosmetic surgery is "the procedures,
techniques, and principles of cosmetic surgery are entirely focused on enhancing a patient's
appearance (Morrison)." It is important to know the difference because in this paper, cosmetic
surgery is the focus. Cosmetic surgery includes procedures like liposuction, tummy tucks, face
surgery, and breast surgery (Morrison). Cosmetic surgery is not a bad thing, many people choose
to partake in these procedures. The issue at hand is not whether or not cosmetic surgery is
necessary, but what cosmetic surgery does to teenagers in our society today. For example,
imagine a teenage girl maybe around age fifteen, women do not fully develop physically until
their twenties, but fifteen year old girls are used to seeing fully developed women in the media.
There are television shows that cast women in their twenties as girls in high school. This is
extremely misleading to girls, because they think they should look a certain way in order to be
conventionally attractive. So imagine this fifteen year old girl begging her parents to look like
everyone else, screaming and crying. Perhaps she has been bullied because other people may
have had surgery. It is hard for parents to say no to their kids when they want something so bad
especially if they are bullied. Say the girl did get the surgery with her parents' permission and
everything is fine, she looks how she wanted to. She got breast implants, a couple years down the
road and she gets fully developed. Well now because of

Plastic Surgery Persuasive Essay
Have you ever thought how many kids between the ages thirteen and nineteen get plastic surgery
a year? The average is around 64,000. Some may argue that the famous Dr.Romo of the Baby
Face Foundation has a wonderful way of picking patients that fit a set of criteria to get free plastic
surgery. However, there are some exceptions like a teen girl named Renata. She was homeschooled
for three years because she was bullied for her saddle nose. But what she didn't realize was that in
the world today there are about 1,400,000 people who walk around with the same deformity and do
not care what others think about them, even though there is people out there who do it to get out of
bullying, but who is to say that they won't stop making fun of you. Maybe they would pick on...show

She also states that a teenage girl named Nadia Ilsa, who was made fun of in school because of her
big "Dumbo" ears. Since she was a little kid she begged her mom to let her get plastic surgery. Even
though she was totally unaware that her other features on her face would need to be resculpted, all
that she wanted was to feel better about herself. (Diller) (Add quotations to the quote and a page
number in the citation) Surgery for teenagers isn't new at all. In the year of 2005, there was a
survey online that found out 2,000 teenagers were 40% female at least considered plastic surgery
in their life once or twice, but by the year 2012 the percent was unaffected by the scandal over the
PIP breast implants.(Martinson) (You need quotations for the quote and you need to introduce the

realize the consequences of getting it done to you. You will never look like your family ever

Plastic Surgery Persuasive Essay

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Plastic Surgery "Everyone has his heart into beautiful things." It is a famous quote in China, which reveals it is a world that everybody goes after beauty. Those born beauties are lucky, but there are many people feel inferior about their appearance. It is one of the main reasons why plastic surgery and especially cosmetic surgery is now rapidly developing. Plastic surgery is risky; even a small operation can be traumatic, and it will be a risk of trauma as well. However, this does not mean that cosmetic surgery cannot be done. It is usually safe as long as the patients go to the regular hospitals, but not the personal clinics. The true value of a person certainly does not depend a star sort light,or fresh brilliant of beautiful outward appearance, the accomplishment of more important oneself, is the spiritual beauty of accomplishment to anyone. Confidence comes from the approval of oneself, appearance is not as important as character. The spiritual beauty is the true beauty of human, but many people are too blind to see this fact, that is why the cases of plastic surgeries keep increasing. Every coin has two sides, as cosmetic surgery helps people improve their appearance, it can also destroy people because of the serious sequel. Many people agree that the starting point for plastic surgery has good intentions, but its development and impact has beyond people's imagination. During the period of World War I and World War II, innumerable soldiers had injured, burned and disfigured. It had allowed plastic surgery to shine in the world. People started to understand and accept plastic surgery at that time, it was an unprecedented break in the history of medical field. Plastic surgery helped improved soldiers' appearance back then; recently, as modern plastic surgery developed rapidly, it actually provided a better life for people in some ways: "modern plastic surgery is aiming at providing a better life for people who could have been isolated because of their deformities, such as deformities after trauma, burns, facial deformities after tumor surgery, and congenital craniofacial deformities" (Kim). Tagliacozzi, who was known as the father of plastic surgery, had successfully reconstructed a patient's nose in fifteen century Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Speech On Plastic Surgery Your final result from plastic surgery will be determined far more by your choice of surgeon than by which facelift technique is used or which breast implant you choose. Not only is this your most important choice, it is also the hardest one to make. One thing on your side is that this is elective surgery, and totally non–urgent. If you make a pact with yourself to wait until you are 100% comfortable, you will have the breathing space to choose the right plastic surgeon for yourself. Realize that there are two sets of issues to look at, one objective, and the other subjective. Objectively, you must determine that the plastic surgeon is safe and well–trained. Only after they have cleared that hurdle, can you look at the subjective criteria, namely whether the doctor's ability, aesthetic, style, and approach is a good match for you. To "clear" a doctor, you must do the following: Assure that the doctor is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This is the only board recognized to credential plastic surgeons. Beware of "bogus" boards – mail order certificates to hang on the wall, as well as people who are board certified, but not in plastic surgery specifically. Check to be sure that the doctor is a member in good standing in the three major plastic surgery societies, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Be sure that the plastic surgeon operates in a fully licensed and accredited surgical facility. Believe it or not, some doctors today – in violation of state law – still attempt to do surgery in facilities that are not licensed. Though in no way required to be a bonafide and respected plastic surgeon, you may want to check to see if the plastic surgeon is also certified by the American Board of Surgery. Prior to specializing in plastic surgery, most plastic surgeons train as general surgeons, which includes trauma surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, surgical critical care, breast cancer surgery and much more. Being certified by the American Board of Surgery indicates that the plastic surgeon has been recognized for their proficiency in these subjects. Even though the plastic surgeon Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Plastic Surgery Helps Self-Esteem Essay " To men a man but a mind. Who cares what face he carries or what he wears? But woman's body is still the woman. "(Bierce,1958). People nowadays want to be more beautiful and perfect. They will do anything to fulfill their needs. Cosmetic surgery is modern variation of a practice as old as humankind. Every culture has some customs that prescribe deliberately changing a body's natural appearance (Brain, 1979). The methods, however, are diverse and particular to a culture at a specific period of time. The body customs may be merely decorative, if not, most have social significance. For certain culture and religion, the body modification is used to communicate power, group membership, individual status and social identity. Until now, the...show more content... Besides that, most people are going for cosmetic surgery because they have the urge to be better accepted by the society. Aristotle's belief that, "Beauty is a greater recommendation than any letter of introduction" remains as true today as in ancient times. The favourable expectations experienced by attractive people make physical beauty a goal for many. The rewards of attractiveness even begin at birth since parents are more affectionate and attentive with attractive babies (Langlois, 1986). For some people, looking old is not an option because staying youthful is the priority for their career such as those who are in the entertainment industry. For some, it is just for personal pleasure and satisfaction. The pursuit of beauty is a big business in modern societies. Americans spend 20 billion dollars annually on products advertised to enhance appearance. Yet, for many, this is not enough. Dissatisfaction with personal appearance is widespread, particularly among women. Surveys indicate that one–half are unhappy with one or more aspects of their bodies (Cash, 1997). While dissatisfaction with owns beauty is the main reason for the rise in popularity of cosmetic surgery, but it is also causes consecutive reasons for its growth. As the demand is getting higher, the industry is getting bigger and clinics are springing up like Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Plastic Surgery Plastic surgery is a fad that society has forced upon us by comparing average looking people to above average looking people and saying "I can make you look like them, I can make you beautiful". Due to people's insecurities with themselves and their constant comparing their bodies to others, they get plastic surgery to get their confidence back. According to healthcareworkersalary.com, a plastic surgeon makes in between $286,00 and $424,000 a year their starting salary being almost double to that of a regular unspecialized doctor. People go to school for 11–15 years to become a plastic surgery, since it's a specialized field. Being a plastic surgeon is relatively stressful as they work odd hours on sometimes very complicated cases. The most common plastic surgery procedure for women to receive is a breast augmentation. The most common plastic surgery procedure for men to receive is a rhinoplasty (plasticsurgery.org,2016 plastic surgery statistics, American society of plastic surgeons, 2017). Caucasian women are more prone to receive breast implants than other races. In a cartoon by Dave Carpenter, two men tell a stranger, "No, we're not related. We just have the same plastic surgeon." This pokes fun at the tendency for plastic surgery patients to appear generic afterward (teenink.com, Melodybee, plastic surgery: an ugly trend, 2013). South Korea is now being chastised for all their Ms. Daegu pageant contestants having plastic surgery and coming out almost identical due their similar requests for outcomes and how the doctor performs the surgeries (gawker.com, plastic surgeon blamed for making all miss Korea contestants look alike, 2013, Neetzan Zimmerman). Currently South Korea holds the title for country with most plastic surgery, America being number six (abcnews.go.com, Nip/Tuck Nations: 7 countries with most plastic surgery, Mikaela Conely, 2012). When I think about plastic surgery I think of tight, unnatural looking faces of celebrities in Hollywood, but face lifts and Botox are the only forms of plastic surgery. But apparently there are many types of surgeries I never knew about. Some of the oddest plastic surgery procedures I found while researching was that you can get dimples, a six pack, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Plastic Surgery American's spent nearly $16 billion dollars on cosmetic surgery last year. Plastic surgery, also known as cosmetic surgery is a process of reconstructing or repairing different parts of the human body. The first ever documented plastic surgery was a breast augmentation in 1895, the first implant was made out of paraffin, beeswax, and vegetable oil. Plastic surgery for the future of humanity will be bigger and the new advancements will affect it in a negative manner. Even though the advancements will be new and bigger, the treatments will be more dangerous, and much more expensive as the technology and clientele grows. Plastic surgery has been making a dent in our wallets and our self esteem, plastic surgery claims to enhance the beauty of different body parts, but in reality it lowers your self esteem as people see images of others with plastic surgery and aspire to be just like the people they see on billboards, movie screens, social media, and magazine covers, but in reality its all plastic. Anyone who decides to go under the knife has a risk of dying, but some people would rather risk their own life than have a crooked nose. To begin, plastic surgery will have expanded majorly. This will have a huge impact on humanity, from our self esteem to our wallets. Men and Women all over the world have been getting plastic surgery since late 1800's. The first ever documented legal plastic surgery was to correct a woman's breast asymmetry. About four million young Chinese people Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Plastic Surgery "Studies have shown that people report increased satisfaction with the body part they had surgery on." In today's society, a majority of people are unhappy with their appearance, because of insecurities. Due to insecurities, humans are driven to change whatever they are unhappy with. It is well known by many that society contributes to these issues. Plastic surgery has become such a common "quick fix" in today's modern world that it is necessary to be knowledgeable of the information about it. There are many different things you can do to your body to change for the "better." Vast amounts of people believe that plastic surgery is one of those better changes. The three most common types of plastic surgery are: Breast Augmentation, Liposuction, and Rhinoplasty. Breast Augmentation also known as a "boob job" was the most common procedure in the United States in 2016. Breast Augmentation "Involves using breast implants or fat transfer to increase the size of your breasts. This procedure can also restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy, achieve a more rounded breast shape or improve natural breast size asymmetry"(What is breast augmentation 2). • 7. Persuasive Essay On Plastic Surgery It's no secret that celebrities and people from the upper class have plastic surgery. The United States is a leading country in plastic surgery where cosmetic surgery has become trendy. Why do more and more people decide to have plastic surgery? Many people blindly think that in modern society, youth and beauty are wealth that could create opportunities for them and make them become more competitive. Therefore, some women spare no effort to fawn upon rich men through having plastic surgery so as to live a life they desire. In today's competitive job market, some people believe that an artificially enhanced appearance can give them an edge over their competitors. While beauty may be only skin–deep, it is the first thing that a prospective employer sees and will judge upon. Inner desire urges people to have plastic surgery. The desire for beauty is universal. One could instantly acquire external beauty through plastic surgery, so it could satisfy people's eager desire for beauty. Some positive effects and advertising publicized after plastic surgery make people believe that plastic surgery could help them enhance confidence, experience happiness and step towards happiness and a better life. The impetuous psychology of following the trend also expands the group of people who have plastic surgery (Dittmann). One might feel behind the fashion if everybody else has plastic surgery except him or her. • 8. Persuasive Speech On Plastic Surgery In recent years plastic surgery is something that has become a very popular trend, and also where many young people are even lining up for it. Plastic surgery is to reconstruct or repair parts of the body, especially by the transfer of tissue it can be used for treatment of injury or cosmetic reasons. It enhances one's physical appearance, allowing him or her to achieve a look he or she desires. For example, a women's buttocks can be enlarged or reduced, or a nose can be straightened or lifted. Many people find themselves changing their bodies and wondering if perfecting their appearance would make life a bit more perfect. Plastic surgery can enhance someone's level of confidence and boost their self–esteem, but it is something that can have very serious consequences people need to be aware of. Plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery is a surgical procedure without a medical indication. Plastic surgery is like a form of art because it's often a perceived beautification of the human body. It's becoming a trend it's a well–known category of medical treatment. People don't realize the effectiveness of those acts, they're exposed to crucial risks and consequences. Despite this trend towards increasing rates of cosmetic surgery, this appearance change strategy is not without numerous risks and consequences. Patients risk the development of physical conditions including persistent pain, blood loss, skin loss, scarring, skin discoloration, prolonged swelling, tissue death, infections, loss of sensation, nerve damage, cardiac and pulmonary complications, blood clots, fluid accumulation, deep vein thrombosis, asymmetry of facial features, wound separation, and poor healing. The few benefits I listed above, the drawbacks of plastic surgery are copious and severe. It's extremely expensive, a single procedure ranges from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Plastic surgery has its' good sides but it also has its' bad sides, the risks to plastic surgery are horrible. They're always risks when people decide to go under the knife. If something goes wrong , results could be irreversible. Most common risks are organ and nerve damages, chronic pain, scarring and infections. Growing up in today's society puts a lot of pressure on young men and women to look their best all of the time. People fear the changes that naturally take place in the aging process and take drastic measures to alter their appearance. The dangers of getting certain procedures such as botox and collagen injections, implants, and rhinoplasty are extremely dangerous ways to hold on to a youthful look. Rhinoplasty, another name for a nose job, has been described as "the most difficult of all facial plastic surgical procedures." As with all surgical procedures there are risks and benefits. When deciding whether to have the surgery, the patient along with their surgeon needs to weigh the benefits of rhinoplasty versus the risks and complications. Usually the person who is getting the surgery only thinks of the benefits the nose job will bring them, which is usually just a confidence booster. The serious risks that people take when they get rhinoplasty are difficulty breathing, nose swelling and discoloration, nasal septal perforation (a hole in the nasal septum), and probably the most important risk the shallow patient is probably thinking: the unsatisfactory nasal appearance. In an episode of Botched, a famous television show solely based off of plastic surgeries, a patient wanted her seventh nose job. Terry Dubrow, one of the surgeons state, "Going into a field that's been operated on already six times, I know that the tissue is not going to heal great. I know that there's also a risk of tissue death, and how great of a job I do the healing may be off" (HollywoodLife). Just like Dubrow explains, sometimes no matter how good of a job the surgeon does, the plastic surgery can heal wrong which can lead to major complications. Why run the risk anyway when the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

There is nothing wrong with it and at some point, or another we all went through that stage in life where we just didn't feel comfortable in our own bodies. Plastic surgery is what people usually go for when they are in this problem. There is nothing wrong with plastic surgery, but recently people have been going overboard or they would find a doctor in another country or on the black market in order to receive the surgery for a cheaper price or receive a surgery that is illegal in the United States. When people go to the black market or to another country the surgery usually leaves them in a condition that can possibly kill the individual or leave their body disfigured or severely scarred. The ones who usually go to black market surgeries or other countries are ones who are young and want a quick fix, people who can't afford the surgery by a good doctor in America, or they want the surgery immediately and they don't want to wait. At the end of the day, it is not worth the hassle of getting plastic surgery if one is not willing to wait to be able to afford the surgery by an actual licensed doctor that has a good reputation, or they don't actually think about it they just want it. There is a TV show named Botched that is about two doctors who fix people who have gotten plastic surgery either at a young age, out of the country, or in the black market and now the surgery is either causing them pain or caused them to be disfigured. The show is meant to inform people on the consequences of black market surgery, going outside of the United States for surgery, and informing the laws related to plastic surgery. Often times women either in their early twenties or mid to late thirties and forties come on the tv show saying they felt pressured to get the surgery, but they couldn't afford the surgery, so they went to the black market to get it for cheap or the surgery wasn't offered in the United States, so they went outside of the United States to find a doctor to do the surgery. • 17. Plastic Surgery Persuasive Speech On top of claiming plastic surgery improves a person's lifestyle, many advocates for plastic surgery justify their viewpoint by insisting that prospering in a profession requires going under the knife. According to Penelope Trunk, American businesswoman, author and blogger who focuses on the intersection between work and life, Where you land at the beginning of your career affects the rest of your career. So the benefits of fixing that nose or chin that has annoyed you your whole life should be done before graduation. So, here's my advice to new grads: Tell your parents you want plastic surgery as a graduation gift. Hate those thin lips? Fatten them up. I'm sorry. But adult life is hard. Getting a job is hard. And the reality is that being bad–looking makes it harder. Plastic surgery is like an MBA. We already know that timing is important for an MBA, and (women especially) need to get an MBA early for it really to help their careers. Well, the same is true for plastic surgery. It's[plastic surgery] totally okay to talk about and you can even do plastic surgery on credit. While getting a head start in one's career increases their chance of becoming successful; perhaps plastic surgery temporarily provides the boost a person needs to initiate their career. However, Trunk uses the fallacies red herring, appeal to authority and slippery slope when she proposes that getting cosmetic surgery automatically raises their chance of triumphing in their profession. Penelope Trunk uses the fallacy red herring –– using an unrelated and insubstantial argument to distract someone –– by completely deterring from the actual argument. Trunk starts off by mentioning the correlation between plastic surgery and a person's career, stating that an improved outer appearance increases the chance of someone getting a job. Instead of elaborating on her stance, she quickly switches to talking about how getting an MBA early on is beneficial –– just like plastic surgery. Furthermore, she then randomly goes on to talk about how accessible plastic surgery since it can be done on credit. Instead of fortifying her initial claim, Trunk jumps from topic to topic in aim to distract the reader from the true point of the argument. This leaves the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 19. Persuasive Essay On Cosmetic Surgery Imagine being insecure or unhappy with a certain aspect of your physical appearance. Now imagine if there were a way to magically fix it, well there is a way and it is not so magical. Cosmetic surgery is the solution for many men and women who want to change something about their physical appearance. Many people try to fix something physical to make up for a bigger issue they have about themselves deeper down. The first thing that is important to know when talking about elective surgery is that there is a difference between plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery. "Plastic surgery is defined as a surgical specialty dedicated to reconstruction of facial and body defects due to birth disorders, trauma, burns, and disease" while cosmetic surgery is "the procedures, techniques, and principles of cosmetic surgery are entirely focused on enhancing a patient's appearance (Morrison)." It is important to know the difference because in this paper, cosmetic surgery is the focus. Cosmetic surgery includes procedures like liposuction, tummy tucks, face surgery, and breast surgery (Morrison). Cosmetic surgery is not a bad thing, many people choose to partake in these procedures. The issue at hand is not whether or not cosmetic surgery is necessary, but what cosmetic surgery does to teenagers in our society today. For example, imagine a teenage girl maybe around age fifteen, women do not fully develop physically until their twenties, but fifteen year old girls are used to seeing fully developed women in the media. There are television shows that cast women in their twenties as girls in high school. This is extremely misleading to girls, because they think they should look a certain way in order to be conventionally attractive. So imagine this fifteen year old girl begging her parents to look like everyone else, screaming and crying. Perhaps she has been bullied because other people may have had surgery. It is hard for parents to say no to their kids when they want something so bad especially if they are bullied. Say the girl did get the surgery with her parents' permission and everything is fine, she looks how she wanted to. She got breast implants, a couple years down the road and she gets fully developed. Well now because of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
