Narrative Essay On A Journey
Everybody is on or has been on a journey before. Being on a journey is very important because it
gives you a goal or task that you want to accomplish. When you go on a journey you find is
yourself through the experiences and obstacles that life throws at you. Throughout a journey, you
are taught life lessons and have the capability of applying that new knowledge for the future for a
better outcome. Sometimes, these life lessons challenge you and you ultimately succeed at the end.
For the past 5 months, I have been on a journey as I have been learning a new instrument that I've
always wanted to learn since I was a little kid. Being on this path has taught me many life lessons
and how to stay focused on what really matters.
My interest in guitar started when my friend used to bring his guitar everyday and I would always
want to play but didn't know how. I would always ask him to teach me how to play but I didn't
know any of the chords and notes, therefore, I just gave up on attempting to play this new
instrument. However, guitar is an elective that's offered here at Kennedy, so I decided to take the
class. I noticed that my friend was getting better the more he practiced, so I decided to join the
class to learn the basics and get started on this new journey. At first, it was difficult to understand
the notes because I didn't have any musical background to help assist me for my own benefit.
However, I began to focus more in class to learn the basics day by day. Overtime, I learned that you
can't learn guitar in one day and you need a lot of practice to get better. I also discovered how
progress is important to reach my end goal.
I stayed on this journey to learn guitar because playing guitar is a special skill that I want to
learn. n my free time or when I'm bored, I could play guitar while learning new and more songs to
play. As a result, I will eventually and gradually get more advanced the more I learn. Another
reason I stayed on this journey is because I want to want to challenge myself to do something I
thought I could never do. When I was little, I always thought that I would never be able to play an
instrument because it was too difficult to learn. Therefore, this is why I wanted to learn guitar in the

The Literacy Narrative
The literacy narratives were not only a means to base where my writing skills are at, but take in
information about people I barely know. Amongst my group, I would have to say the two foreign
students had my attention indefinitely the entire time, because I was intrigued to hear about their
journey to the U.S. The both of them had suffered great culture shock and went through the tedious
process of learning American English. I can only assume that the difficulty was astronomical at first,
due to the fact that we don't speak proper English a majority of the time, which conflicts with the
rigid learning that comes with learning a secondary language. It's something about that culture shock
that interests me as it shows a certain determination

Narrative Essay On Critical Thinking
My hand was moving fast across the page checking things about myself that I didn't even need to
think about. Personally I stop checking boxes and my left hand started to absentmindedly fingle with
the freshly sharpened pencil in my hand. A question that came naturally to most people What is a
critical thinking question in my eyes.
I felt my eyebrows fur and started to weigh my options. I looked over the question again hoping
that I miss read and can in fact lcheck more than one answer. But to my disappointment I read
correctly the first time. My pencil point however between the two boxes labeled "Black" and
"Hispanic/Latino". And, in italics next to the question asking "what is your race?" said you are
required to check one.
I felt conflicted, I knew picking just one box...show more content...
I remember a time when I was at my aunts house on my fathers side and I overheard her saying "
her parents has to do something to her hair" when I left the room. And my mothers side of the family
was no better since they always suggested that i straighten my hair––even though i wasn't even in
middle school yet. but as I grew older and slowly Felt less hostile towards my mixed background, i
started to appreciate the many places j came from. I realize that this was a bow do that stemmed
from uncertainty good myself. That nobody was telling me I wasn't good enough or worthy––but i
was just unconsciously telling myself that.
even though it didn't occur overnight, i came to the understanding that instituationalization and
public–reinforcement of race is very real in the United States. and that I didn't have to conform to
one race because that is what society expects of me.
it took me a while to come to a decision that day but when my teacher called out that we only had
less than minute to finish this section i snapped back to reality. And quickly checked what i felt was

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the
whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for
navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I
have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in
English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

Personal Narrative: To-Do List
This weekend I was swamped with assignments ,and this paper was just another item to check off of
my "To–Do List". Honestly, I had not even started on my summer reading, but I was glad I finally
did. I knew we had to read about 25 essays which did not excite me ,but I had no clue how
amazing they were going to be. Reading through them, I was amazed by how inspiring they were
,yet I could not see how Mrs. Tenison expected me to compete with such great essays. Ithought... I
am only eighteen, I do not have some vast wisdom about life... I do not have a life changing
experience that I could write about.... and I certainly do not know who I am or what I believe. I sat
in my bed and kept asking myself "What beliefs do I live by?", "How do I see

Essay on Narrative Therapy
Abstract
This paper will look at the logic of narrative therapy by focusing on 5 major points. This paper will
begin by discussing how the narrative approach defines and perceives problems. It will address how
narrative therapy views the nature of the relationship between the client and the professional. This
paper will look at how problems are solved using the narrative approach. It will also focus on three
main techniques used in narrative therapy, which will include externalization, deconstruction and
re–authoring. This paper will also include a short narrative critique of the medical model. The Logic
of Narrative Therapy Narrative therapy is considered postmodern due to the fact that it uses a story
telling approach to...show more content...
According to Kelley (1996) this process is recommended by narrative therapists because it allows
the client to begin to see where the discourse emerged from. The therapist must first just listen to the
story and determine what the client sees as the existing problem (Kelley, 1996). Then the therapist
begins to ask questions with the intention of bringing forth the full meaning of the problem (Kelley,
1996). In deconstruction the therapist searches for answers as to who all is involved with the
problem, what past events lead up to the problem development, how the problem changed over time,
how the client has been fighting the problem thus far and how the problem is affecting the client's
life (Kelley, 1996).
Kelley (1996) reported that after the therapist has a full understanding of the problem the
deconstruction phase moves on to its second stage. The therapist and the client begin working
together to break down the prevailing story in order to map the influence the problem is having on
the client's life (Kelley, 1996). Mapping the effect of the problem is particularly important because
it lays the foundation of the new story line (Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston, 1997). According
to Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston (1997) typically when the effect of the problem is discussed
with the client they begin to feel as if their story has been heard. They

Similarities
пѓ Both share the same methodology by employing interviews, observations, document analysis
and audiovisual materials among others.
пѓ Both techniques employ inductive approach, Inductive analysis means that the patterns, themes,
and categories of analysis come from data; they emerged out of the data rather than being imposed
on them prior to data collection and analysis (Patton, 1980 in Bowen 2006).
пѓ Both are qualitative approach of inquiry.
Differences:
Narrative analysis does not employ coding strategies for example; in vivo or line by line but
focuses instead on temporality and sequencing of storied experiences or linguistic structure and use
of language (Floersch et.al. 2010). In grounded theory, open axial and selective...show more content...
Additionally, Grounded theory provides a workable technique to develop an understanding of a
phenomenon which is not pre–theoretically developed with existing paradigms.
Grounded theory gives opportunities to give rise of new contextualized theories. It has systematic
data coding as compared to narrative analysis. It paves way for data depth and richness.
It is an exhausting process especially to the beginners in research. It seems to be elusive for the
researcher to be more reflexive by starting with a blank slate where the researcher is not guided by
any theories in the onset of the study which to me it is impossible.
Grounded theory has risks of methodological error in selection of theoretical sampling. Data
saturation is sometimes problematic. There is no standardized formula that could attest that the
research has achieved already data saturation although some literatures speaks that it will be achieved
when there is nothing new that emerged in the data gathered. Grounded theory has been criticized
for not addressing questions of

Achieving A Personal Goal
In the beginning of the semester, I felt a little annoyed that I had to plan a personal goal. I was
afraid that I was going to fail once again during the journey of losing weight. My personal goal
was to lose five pounds by April 1, 2016. I had planned to achieve this goal by eating healthier
snacks, exercising, and meal prepping. Trying to achieve this goal was not easy. I had a constant
temptation of breaking my diet and I kept trying to buy fast food whenever I saw myself tight with
my school and work schedule. However, I was able to achieve my goal because I was meal prepping
every night, I kept an alarm on my phone to remind me when I should be exercising, I read articles
that provided me with a list of healthy foods, I carried a picture...show more content...
It requires commitment and self–awareness of one's judgment and decision–making. One of the
main models that served as a guide of which steps I need to take was the chain model. The chain
model I created for myself allowed me to visualize my available resources and it formed a
sequence of my possible decisions. Choosing healthier foods after being used to eating fast food
almost every day was a challenge. Every moment I was about to break my healthy eating habit; I
kept saying positive things to my self. Overall, I am very happy of my results and I am very
thankful that this class allowed me to achieve my personal

Nursing is all I've wanted to do since i was 8–years old. I was the little girl who would pretend to be
the nurse with a white sheet like it was my coat, and wearing my mother's stethoscope checking
heartbeats. My mother bought me a medical kit and everyday i'd check everyone's heartbeat, blood
pressure, and vitals. But at that age all I knew was i had to hold their wrist for a while not knowing
what i'm feeling for, writing random numbers in a notebook, and putting my ear against their chest
waiting for the "thump–thump" sound. They'd go along with me and I'd think to make the pain go
away is to give it a kiss and a band–aid. Until my mom said " Chanel stop using all the band–aids".
Then, I had to cut down on my practices. As the years

The literary theory of narratology surrounds the ideology of how a story is told to an audience
through literature. The underlying syntax of the word 'narrative' is projected as being a story told or
spoken, but when it comes to literature, the audience is meant to look at how the written word
conveys the story through its characters and its underlying plot. Narratology is a perspective that
brings the audience's head into the author's way of bringing their story to life through their style of
writing, creation of plot, and through the ways characters interact. What literary critics do within this
theory is take into account the narratology – the way the story creates an impact and how the author
projected their idea into literature. The narratological perspective can be displayed through three
major layers; the framework, the in–depth analysis of the story, and how the work makes an impact.
With the use of theorists Valdmir Propp, Aristotle, Gerard Genette, Roland Barthes, Julien Greimas
and Tzvetan Todorov, and the literary work, The Turn of the Screw, the audience is able to
understand what narratology entails. The framework of a narrative is a staple to the theory of
narratology because it is one of the main steps towards understand what narrative truly is. Narrative
itself has a basic formation, in which the story (being the major movement of events in the
narrative) or plot (the way story is organized) encompass a major framework. The narrative has a set
of goals

Narrative Essay for English 101
English101/ Narrative Essay I never thought the day would come where I'd have to admit to
myself I had an addiction. The hardest part was to except the fact I was an addict of painkillers
and admitting it to my family so that I could get the help and support needed to get clean. The
road leading to my addiction started with the factors of my childhood, always trying to fit in and
not being supported emotionally from my parents. Having a child at the age of sixteen was the
second factor, which made me grow up faster than a normal child at my age would have had to.

Unfortunately, that situation didn't go as planned and living further away from my job with no

not having money to pay the bills or to support my pill habit. At this point in time I knew I had a
problem with narcotics and needed help. I put it off when Tim got a job thinking that I could
support my habit again. Things got better for a while until Tim started using painkillers with me.
Tim had gone so long trying to encourage me to stop, that he started using them with me. It was
fun using together for a few months; until I found out we were going to have a baby. Now, we
were both addicted to narcotics, had no vehicle, struggling just to get by financially, with a seven
year old girl and a two year old girl. I knew something had to change because we were both too
weak to help each other get clean. Due to this, we decided it was best to move in with my father.
When I made the call to my father to confess my addiction, tears started running down my face.
Admitting to my dad my struggle with narcotics was hard because I didn't want to be a
disappointment to him however, I needed to get help and the first step was to be honest and admit
I had a problem. After I moved in with my father and got settled, I went over what my options were
to get clean while being five months pregnant. My dad had brought me to Athol Memorial Hospital,

organization first introduced me to my future career. I was also involved for three and a half years

was the value of hard work. I was one of the few people that organized the Junior/Senior Prom of
2000. My responsibilities included planning corranation, buying and organizing decorations,
planning the busing schedule, booking the photographers, fundraising, ect. This taught me about
hard work. But the best part of it was going to Prom knowing I was one of the only reasons that it

which is a class where students from my high school can go to the local elementary schools and

What makes a kind, compassionate, moral human being? On the flip side, what makes a monster?
A prevalent theme in the YA novel "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers is image , or how one views
themselves and how they want, or need , in the case of Steve Harmon, others to view them. The
reader is presumably dropped into New York of the late nighties, in time to watch 16–year–old Steve

alternates between a 3rd–person screenplay and diary format as Steve resolves to take up his pen
and document his experience. The narrative follows his view of life

At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward
reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure
but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit
discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I
enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in
my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into
the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content...
You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the
same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was
intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing
are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't
personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the
most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and
professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to
write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to.
Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am
assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find
myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this
would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the
majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and
therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume
every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

Narrative Essay About Having A Dream
Everyone has a dream. Whether it's small or big...we all have one. We also give up on them. We get
stuck in the idea that our ideas are too far–fetched either because of other people's comments or
because of our own self–doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we
believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the
right way to live. It's hard to have a dream and keep it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a
lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just
that. A dream.
Yet, for my mom, that wasn't the case.

She sat me down and said well why not do both. I remember when she said that I was so happy.
We began to think of how I could do both and came up with the idea of a singing lawyer. It was
probably the worst idea we've ever had. I don't even think it would have worked out well either, but
it was the fact that I could have done it and my mom would be completely okay with it and made it
seem perfectly normal that helped me to never quit on my dreams.
Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never
encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot
faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She
was never pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true.
Since she was little she was always having to take care of her three sisters. She wasn't allowed to
go out a lot so she was always home studying or in her room. She was so restricted in her own home
that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only
about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty.
Her stepfather was the worst of all. He would always put her down and would try to make her feel
like nothing. She didn't even have protection from her own mother, because her mom would never
say anything about it. She just let it happen.

I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked

was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all

manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of.
There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with
enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were alphabetically permitted to choose a horse,
and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly.
She was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and
was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he
stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he
had a striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. I had an instant connection with him, and
proclaimed his name as Cashmere.
As I lead Cashmere towards the indoor riding arena, my heart raced. The inconsistent sound hoofs
trotting along the cobbled ground were intensifying. As I stroked Cashmere's muzzle and gave him a
mint polo (he's favourites), I began to mentally prepared myself to mount, and ride him.

List Of Narrative Essay Topics

  • 1. Narrative Essay On A Journey Everybody is on or has been on a journey before. Being on a journey is very important because it gives you a goal or task that you want to accomplish. When you go on a journey you find is yourself through the experiences and obstacles that life throws at you. Throughout a journey, you are taught life lessons and have the capability of applying that new knowledge for the future for a better outcome. Sometimes, these life lessons challenge you and you ultimately succeed at the end. For the past 5 months, I have been on a journey as I have been learning a new instrument that I've always wanted to learn since I was a little kid. Being on this path has taught me many life lessons and how to stay focused on what really matters. My interest in guitar started when my friend used to bring his guitar everyday and I would always want to play but didn't know how. I would always ask him to teach me how to play but I didn't know any of the chords and notes, therefore, I just gave up on attempting to play this new instrument. However, guitar is an elective that's offered here at Kennedy, so I decided to take the class. I noticed that my friend was getting better the more he practiced, so I decided to join the class to learn the basics and get started on this new journey. At first, it was difficult to understand the notes because I didn't have any musical background to help assist me for my own benefit. However, I began to focus more in class to learn the basics day by day. Overtime, I learned that you can't learn guitar in one day and you need a lot of practice to get better. I also discovered how progress is important to reach my end goal. I stayed on this journey to learn guitar because playing guitar is a special skill that I want to learn. n my free time or when I'm bored, I could play guitar while learning new and more songs to play. As a result, I will eventually and gradually get more advanced the more I learn. Another reason I stayed on this journey is because I want to want to challenge myself to do something I thought I could never do. When I was little, I always thought that I would never be able to play an instrument because it was too difficult to learn. Therefore, this is why I wanted to learn guitar in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Literacy Narrative The literacy narratives were not only a means to base where my writing skills are at, but take in information about people I barely know. Amongst my group, I would have to say the two foreign students had my attention indefinitely the entire time, because I was intrigued to hear about their journey to the U.S. The both of them had suffered great culture shock and went through the tedious process of learning American English. I can only assume that the difficulty was astronomical at first, due to the fact that we don't speak proper English a majority of the time, which conflicts with the rigid learning that comes with learning a secondary language. It's something about that culture shock that interests me as it shows a certain determination Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Narrative Essay On Critical Thinking My hand was moving fast across the page checking things about myself that I didn't even need to think about. Personally I stop checking boxes and my left hand started to absentmindedly fingle with the freshly sharpened pencil in my hand. A question that came naturally to most people What is a critical thinking question in my eyes. I felt my eyebrows fur and started to weigh my options. I looked over the question again hoping that I miss read and can in fact lcheck more than one answer. But to my disappointment I read correctly the first time. My pencil point however between the two boxes labeled "Black" and "Hispanic/Latino". And, in italics next to the question asking "what is your race?" said you are required to check one. I felt conflicted, I knew picking just one box...show more content... I remember a time when I was at my aunts house on my fathers side and I overheard her saying " her parents has to do something to her hair" when I left the room. And my mothers side of the family was no better since they always suggested that i straighten my hair––even though i wasn't even in middle school yet. but as I grew older and slowly Felt less hostile towards my mixed background, i started to appreciate the many places j came from. I realize that this was a bow do that stemmed from uncertainty good myself. That nobody was telling me I wasn't good enough or worthy––but i was just unconsciously telling myself that. even though it didn't occur overnight, i came to the understanding that instituationalization and public–reinforcement of race is very real in the United States. and that I didn't have to conform to one race because that is what society expects of me. it took me a while to come to a decision that day but when my teacher called out that we only had less than minute to finish this section i snapped back to reality. And quickly checked what i felt was right and represented Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Reflection On My English 101 Experience Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Personal Narrative: To-Do List This weekend I was swamped with assignments ,and this paper was just another item to check off of my "To–Do List". Honestly, I had not even started on my summer reading, but I was glad I finally did. I knew we had to read about 25 essays which did not excite me ,but I had no clue how amazing they were going to be. Reading through them, I was amazed by how inspiring they were ,yet I could not see how Mrs. Tenison expected me to compete with such great essays. Ithought... I am only eighteen, I do not have some vast wisdom about life... I do not have a life changing experience that I could write about.... and I certainly do not know who I am or what I believe. I sat in my bed and kept asking myself "What beliefs do I live by?", "How do I see Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on Narrative Therapy Abstract This paper will look at the logic of narrative therapy by focusing on 5 major points. This paper will begin by discussing how the narrative approach defines and perceives problems. It will address how narrative therapy views the nature of the relationship between the client and the professional. This paper will look at how problems are solved using the narrative approach. It will also focus on three main techniques used in narrative therapy, which will include externalization, deconstruction and re–authoring. This paper will also include a short narrative critique of the medical model. The Logic of Narrative Therapy Narrative therapy is considered postmodern due to the fact that it uses a story telling approach to...show more content... According to Kelley (1996) this process is recommended by narrative therapists because it allows the client to begin to see where the discourse emerged from. The therapist must first just listen to the story and determine what the client sees as the existing problem (Kelley, 1996). Then the therapist begins to ask questions with the intention of bringing forth the full meaning of the problem (Kelley, 1996). In deconstruction the therapist searches for answers as to who all is involved with the problem, what past events lead up to the problem development, how the problem changed over time, how the client has been fighting the problem thus far and how the problem is affecting the client's life (Kelley, 1996). Kelley (1996) reported that after the therapist has a full understanding of the problem the deconstruction phase moves on to its second stage. The therapist and the client begin working together to break down the prevailing story in order to map the influence the problem is having on the client's life (Kelley, 1996). Mapping the effect of the problem is particularly important because it lays the foundation of the new story line (Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston, 1997). According to Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston (1997) typically when the effect of the problem is discussed with the client they begin to feel as if their story has been heard. • 7. Similarities пѓ Both share the same methodology by employing interviews, observations, document analysis and audiovisual materials among others. пѓ Both techniques employ inductive approach, Inductive analysis means that the patterns, themes, and categories of analysis come from data; they emerged out of the data rather than being imposed on them prior to data collection and analysis (Patton, 1980 in Bowen 2006). пѓ Both are qualitative approach of inquiry. Differences: Narrative analysis does not employ coding strategies for example; in vivo or line by line but focuses instead on temporality and sequencing of storied experiences or linguistic structure and use of language (Floersch et.al. 2010). In grounded theory, open axial and selective...show more content... Additionally, Grounded theory provides a workable technique to develop an understanding of a phenomenon which is not pre–theoretically developed with existing paradigms. Grounded theory gives opportunities to give rise of new contextualized theories. It has systematic data coding as compared to narrative analysis. It paves way for data depth and richness. It is an exhausting process especially to the beginners in research. It seems to be elusive for the researcher to be more reflexive by starting with a blank slate where the researcher is not guided by any theories in the onset of the study which to me it is impossible. Grounded theory has risks of methodological error in selection of theoretical sampling. Data saturation is sometimes problematic. There is no standardized formula that could attest that the research has achieved already data saturation although some literatures speaks that it will be achieved when there is nothing new that emerged in the data gathered. Grounded theory has been criticized for not addressing questions of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Achieving A Personal Goal In the beginning of the semester, I felt a little annoyed that I had to plan a personal goal. I was afraid that I was going to fail once again during the journey of losing weight. My personal goal was to lose five pounds by April 1, 2016. I had planned to achieve this goal by eating healthier snacks, exercising, and meal prepping. Trying to achieve this goal was not easy. I had a constant temptation of breaking my diet and I kept trying to buy fast food whenever I saw myself tight with my school and work schedule. However, I was able to achieve my goal because I was meal prepping every night, I kept an alarm on my phone to remind me when I should be exercising, I read articles that provided me with a list of healthy foods, I carried a picture...show more content... Choosing healthier foods after being used to eating fast food almost every day was a challenge. Every moment I was about to break my healthy eating habit; I kept saying positive things to my self. • 9. Narrative Essay Nursing Nursing is all I've wanted to do since i was 8–years old. I was the little girl who would pretend to be the nurse with a white sheet like it was my coat, and wearing my mother's stethoscope checking heartbeats. My mother bought me a medical kit and everyday i'd check everyone's heartbeat, blood pressure, and vitals. But at that age all I knew was i had to hold their wrist for a while not knowing what i'm feeling for, writing random numbers in a notebook, and putting my ear against their chest waiting for the "thump–thump" sound. They'd go along with me and I'd think to make the pain go away is to give it a kiss and a band–aid. Until my mom said " Chanel stop using all the band–aids". Then, I had to cut down on my practices. • 11. The literary theory of narratology surrounds the ideology of how a story is told to an audience through literature. The underlying syntax of the word 'narrative' is projected as being a story told or spoken, but when it comes to literature, the audience is meant to look at how the written word conveys the story through its characters and its underlying plot. Narratology is a perspective that brings the audience's head into the author's way of bringing their story to life through their style of writing, creation of plot, and through the ways characters interact. What literary critics do within this theory is take into account the narratology – the way the story creates an impact and how the author projected their idea into literature. The narratological perspective can be displayed through three major layers; the framework, the in–depth analysis of the story, and how the work makes an impact. With the use of theorists Valdmir Propp, Aristotle, Gerard Genette, Roland Barthes, Julien Greimas and Tzvetan Todorov, and the literary work, The Turn of the Screw, the audience is able to understand what narratology entails. The framework of a narrative is a staple to the theory of narratology because it is one of the main steps towards understand what narrative truly is. Narrative itself has a basic formation, in which the story (being the major movement of events in the narrative) or plot (the way story is organized) encompass a major framework. • 12. Narrative Essay for English 101 English101/ Narrative Essay I never thought the day would come where I'd have to admit to myself I had an addiction. The hardest part was to except the fact I was an addict of painkillers and admitting it to my family so that I could get the help and support needed to get clean. The road leading to my addiction started with the factors of my childhood, always trying to fit in and not being supported emotionally from my parents. Having a child at the age of sixteen was the second factor, which made me grow up faster than a normal child at my age would have had to. Living the life of an addict was a struggle everyday but, getting help was the hardest part of it all. I'll live with this disease for the rest of my life because recovery is a...show more content... Unfortunately, that situation didn't go as planned and living further away from my job with no car caused me to lose my job. Losing my job put an extreme amount of stress on my family, due to not having money to pay the bills or to support my pill habit. At this point in time I knew I had a problem with narcotics and needed help. I put it off when Tim got a job thinking that I could support my habit again. Things got better for a while until Tim started using painkillers with me. Tim had gone so long trying to encourage me to stop, that he started using them with me. It was fun using together for a few months; until I found out we were going to have a baby. Now, we were both addicted to narcotics, had no vehicle, struggling just to get by financially, with a seven year old girl and a two year old girl. I knew something had to change because we were both too weak to help each other get clean. Due to this, we decided it was best to move in with my father. When I made the call to my father to confess my addiction, tears started running down my face. Admitting to my dad my struggle with narcotics was hard because I didn't want to be a disappointment to him however, I needed to get help and the first step was to be honest and admit I had a problem. After I moved in with my father and got settled, I went over what my options were to get clean while being five months pregnant. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me. We were actively involved in community service activities, for which I received the Silver Award. ( The second highest award in the organization.) I learned about the value of friendship and patients with others. This organization first introduced me to my future career. I was also involved for three and a half years in a student government club on campus. In this club I learned many life lessons. One of which was the value of hard work. I was one of the few people that organized the Junior/Senior Prom of 2000. My responsibilities included planning corranation, buying and organizing decorations, planning the busing schedule, booking the photographers, fundraising, ect. This taught me about hard work. But the best part of it was going to Prom knowing I was one of the only reasons that it happened. As far as school goes, my schedule is very diverse. I am taking child development lab, which is a class where students from my high school can go to the local elementary schools and work one on one with the students. A prevalent theme in the YA novel "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers is image , or how one views themselves and how they want, or need , in the case of Steve Harmon, others to view them. The reader is presumably dropped into New York of the late nighties, in time to watch 16–year–old Steve on trial for a crime he might or might not have committed, despite the dearth of evidence. • 15. Literacy Narrative Essay example At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content... You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Narrative Essay About Having A Dream Everyone has a dream. Whether it's small or big...we all have one. We also give up on them. We get stuck in the idea that our ideas are too far–fetched either because of other people's comments or because of our own self–doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the right way to live. It's hard to have a dream and keep it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just that. A dream. Yet, for my mom, that wasn't the case. My mother was born on March 24, 1973, in a small village in Guatemala. She grew up there...show more content... She sat me down and said well why not do both. I remember when she said that I was so happy. We began to think of how I could do both and came up with the idea of a singing lawyer. It was probably the worst idea we've ever had. I don't even think it would have worked out well either, but it was the fact that I could have done it and my mom would be completely okay with it and made it seem perfectly normal that helped me to never quit on my dreams. Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She was never pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true. Since she was little she was always having to take care of her three sisters. She wasn't allowed to go out a lot so she was always home studying or in her room. She was so restricted in her own home that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty. Her stepfather was the worst of all. He would always put her down and would try to make her feel like nothing. She didn't even have protection from her own mother, because her mom would never say anything about it. She just let it happen. My mom Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Example Of A Personal Narrative Research Paper I came to the United States at a very tender age, 13 years old, without a family member so I was residing with my father's friend. After I graduated from high school in 2007, at the age of 17, my guardian decided to move back to Ghana so I was here all by myself. I wanted to go to college as that had always been my dream goal. I was therefore admitted to Medgar Evers College, where I am currently attending, in fall 2007. Unfortunately, life events caused setbacks in pursing my education and finishing on the right time. As a teenager in a foreign land all alone without a family and undocumented, life was unbearable.
