SCIN130 Presentation Tips and Guidelines
Things to DO when preparing a presentation:
1. As you did for Assignment 4: Organism Profile, start
preparing your presentation by outlining your ideas. Refer to
the directions that reflect the type of organism you have chosen
(microbe, plant/fungus or animal) and use the required elements
as the framework for your outline. Flesh out that outline by
identifying specific subject matter, photos and videos you want
to include. Storyboarding, a way of sequencing and organizing
your ideas for delivery in the presentation, is a great way to
help with the process of preparing a presentation. Here are a
couple of links on storyboarding:

trouble-putting-a-presentation-together-try-storyboarding.aspx
2. Research, research, research!! Research your organism
before you observe it so you know what to look for specifically.
Then go back and research more after the fact and compile
additional information such as audio files, video and/or pictures
that will enhance your presentation and what you observed
yourself.
3. Remember your research is about observing your organism
NOTinteracting with it. Use common sense and do not put
yourself in a potentially dangerous environment and do not
trespass while making your observations.
7. 4. Organize your presentation in a logical sequence. Be
consistent in your format (use of titles, fonts, background, over
all look from slide to slide). Use font types, sizes and colors
that are easy to read.
5. If you are using SOM with audio narration, consider writing
out your presentation first and practice your narration prior to
recording. Be sure to project your voice so it can be heard well,
enunciate, and pause where applicable. When recording your
narration, be relaxed, don’t worry if you stumble here or there
but you should rerecord if you have too many “errors” in your
run.
6. Proofread and review your final product to ensure it is the
final product you are prepared to present to the class and submit
for grading.
7. Make sure all photos and videos are working if embedded
into your presentation.
And a last note on citation….
8. Make sure all videos, photos, or research is cited properly in
your presentation.
