2. PHOTOSHOP
From using this software, I learned some new skills by using tools that I did not
use when constructing my preliminary product.
For example, for my front cover, I used the quick selection tool to select around
the models in the original main image, then selected inverse and deleted the
background so that I was just left with the models on a blank background, which
I could then edit any way I wanted.
I then changed the background colour by inserting a red and white gradient. I did
this by selecting around the models again and adding a gradient overlay to the
background, whereas in my preliminary product, I simply left the background
blank and not manipulated in any way. I changed the colour of the model’s
jumper by creating a mask over the background so that just the jumper was
selected, and then manipulated the hue and saturation of the image to a colour I
was happy with.
3. INDESIGN
As I have never used this software before, I learnt new techniques which were
effective in constructing my double page spread. I learnt how to insert images
such as my main double page spread image by using deleting the backgorund
from the image in Photoshop then bring the artists in by using file – place, then
adjusting the image size to the size I want across the pages.
I learnt how insert the DPS article by placing the word file of the copy onto the
double page spread file, and then added a drop cap to the article using the drop
cap tool and choosing the size I want. I then inserted a pull quote using the text
tool and wrapped this around the text, by wrapping it around the object (the
article). I also wrapped the article around the guitar in the image, which makes the
page appear more creative and appealing.
4. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, I have learnt a variety of new techniques and a lot about
different softwares when constructing my final product, from working
on Photoshop and Indesign. I have not learned anything from any
devices that I used when I constructed my preliminary product, which
were the computer and a stills camera to take the pictures for my
magazine.
Although, in the process of conducting my research and planning for
my final product, I have learnt how to use a voice recorder (with focus
group evidence on my blog), which I uploaded to Soundcloud and put
onto my blog from there. Therefore, I also learnt how to begin uploading
recordings to Soundcloud using the voice recorder.
