2. DNA
My magazine will be a sophisticated yet ‘scruffy’ indie
rock music magazine. The reason I want it to be a
sophisticated yet ‘scruffy’ magazine is because the
sophistication appeals to the age of my target audience
which is 18+ males. I believe this age group, as they are
now adults, want to start acting more mature so they
would buy a sophisticated magazine. The reason I also
want my magazine to be ‘scruffy’ is so it still conforms to
indie rock conventions so the fans of the indie rock genre
still believe it’s an indie rock magazine. Like NME
magazine, ‘authentic’ magazine will introduce it’s readers
to new upcoming bands so that the readers can talk to
their friends about these bands.
3. Front Cover
The colours I will be using on my magazine’s front cover and
throughout the rest of it are: Blue, Black and White. The reason for this
is because Black and White are typically seen as rock colours, the
reason I will be using blue is because blue is seen as cool which is what
the genre of indie rock is all about, being ‘cool’. My main article will sit
just under the masthead as that is the second place the readers are
going to look after the main image. The will scan the magazine quickly
so I have to make sure my main image are big, bold and interesting so
that the reader will buy my magazine. My masthead will be in the top
left hand corner as it’s out of the way from the central image people
will be able to see it if it were on a newsstand.
My central image will be of a three-people band that have the ‘scruffy’
look but make it stylish in their own way. They are also quite a young
band which the readers can relate to being of a similar age to the
band.
4. Contents Page
For my contents page I want to have clear and easy
accessibility for my readers to find the articles they are most
interested in.
I want my contents page to mostly be cover in pictures as I
believe this is a clear way to layout a contents page. The
images will be of what the article is about whether it’s a band
or a list of bands to see live. I don’t want many words used at
all on my contents page as I believe that will bore the reader
and not make then excited or interested about the rest of the
magazine.
My layout for my contents page will be blocked images sideby-side this makes it more clear for my readers to access their
favourite articles.
5. Double-page spread
For my double-page spread I will want for the band I will
be using to take up most of the page because again I
don’t want to use many words in these page that I will be
doing that will bore the readers. The text that I will use
will be in a formal language as I want to keep some
sophistication throughout my magazine especially when
the picture will be of a typical indie rock band, that will
look ‘scruffy’ but stylish. The readers will want to see
what the band is about so there will be small text about
that and also there will be key dates were fans or people
who just want to see them live will be on that doublepage spread as well.
