CONVENTIONS?
Codes are used to create meaning within media which
is being presented through use of different codes such
as technical and symbolic codes. The aim of the use of
of codes and conventions is to create a successful
finished media product.
3. CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF A VOX
POP
• The person in the shot should be positioned on either the right or left side of the
camera and not in the Centre. This allows for background to be seen and therefore
making the frame more thought-provoking.
• When the person is positioned on the left hand side they should be looking to the
right and vice versa.
• The camera must be eye level with the interviewer to allow for the viewer to have a
realistic shot from the interviewers point of view.
• The person should also be looking at the interviewer rather than the camera as it gives
a more relaxed feel.
• A shot gun mic is generally used for vox pop interviews as they are more appropriate
and provide better sound quality for this type of interview.
