3. Postgraduate studies
Many students consider taking time off prior
to starting a graduate program. Taking time
off can allow you to develop professional
maturity, build your experience and explore
a field you have always been interested in.
Before searching for post-graduate
opportunities you need to evaluate a few

of ways, such as furthering your career

5. Types of postgraduate study
Honours
Course work
Masters
PhD

6. Honours
An honours year is generally considered a
postgraduate year.
To be eligible for honours need a high grade
point average for undergraduate years.
 In some disciplines an honours can lead to
completing a Masters degree or lead to further
research.

7. Course Work
A graduate Certificate can complete with a
three year bachelor degree under your belt
and usually takes one semester full time.
Relevant undergraduate degree is often
required however appropriate work
experience can sometimes count.

8. Masters
Masters by Research is completed wholly on
the basis of a research project. You will be
paired with a supervisor whose field of
expertise is aligned with the project.
The thesis is examined on completion.

9. PhD
Doctorate by research is the highest degree
that a university confers. It is similar to the
masters by research with a thesis submitted to
examiners who determine whether the research
work is worthy of the qualification.
A PhD candidate must through your thesis
demonstrate that made some original
contribution to field and can use the title of
Doctor.
