• The oxygen cycle is the biogeochemical cycle of oxygen
within its three main reservoirs: the atmosphere (air),
the total content of biological matter within
the biosphere and the Earth's crust.
• Oxygen is used and cycled by plants and animals.
Plants are the main creators of oxygen in the
atmosphere.
• For Ex:- Here the tree uses sunlight and carbon dioxide
to produce energy and releases oxygen. The giraffe
breathes in the oxygen and then breathes out carbon
dioxide. The plant can then use this carbon dioxide and
the cycle is complete.

1. In the atmosphere, carbon is attached to some
oxygen in a gas called carbon dioxide.
2. Plants use carbon dioxide and sunlight to make their
own food and grow. The carbon becomes part of the
plant.
3. Plants that die and are buried may turn into fossil
fuels made of carbon like coal and oil over millions of
years.
4. When humans burn fossil fuels, most of the carbon
quickly enters the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.
5. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and traps heat in
the atmosphere.
6. Without it and other greenhouse gases, Earth would
be a frozen world.

• The water cycle describes how water
evaporates from the surface of the earth, rises
into the atmosphere, cools and condenses
into rain or snow in clouds, and falls again to
the surface as precipitation.
• The water falling on land collects in rivers and
lakes, soil, and porous layers of rock, and
much of it flows back into the oceans, where it
will once more evaporate.
• The cycling of water in and out of the
atmosphere is a significant aspect of
the weather patterns on Earth.

The nitrogen cycle is the
biogeochemical cycle by which
nitrogen is converted into
various chemical forms as it
circulates among the atmosphere
and terrestrial and marine
ecosystems. The conversion of
nitrogen can be carried out
through both biological and
physical processes.

• Air pollution is the introduction of particulates, biological molecules,
and many harmful substances into Earth's atmosphere, causing
diseases, allergies, death to humans, damage to other living
organisms such as animals and food crops, or the natural or built
environment.
• Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes,
rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater). This form of
environmental degradation occurs when pollutants are directly or
indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate
treatment to remove harmful compounds.

Soil contamination or soil pollution as part of land
degradation is caused by the presence of xenobiotic
(human-made) chemicals or other alteration in the
natural soil environment. It is typically caused by industrial
activity, agricultural chemicals, or improper disposal of
waste.

• The ozone layer is a belt of naturally occurring ozone gas that sits
9.3 to 18.6 miles (15 to 30 kilometers) above Earth and serves as a
shield from the harmful ultraviolet B radiation emitted by the sun.
• Ozone is a highly reactive molecule that contains three oxygen
atoms.
• Stratospheric ozone is being destroyed by a group of manufactured
chemicals, containing chlorine and/or bromine. These chemicals are
called "ozone-depleting substances" (ODS).
• ODS are very stable, nontoxic and environmentally safe in the lower
atmosphere.
• Once in the stratosphere, they are broken apart by the intense
ultraviolet light, releasing chlorine and bromine.
• Chlorine and bromine demolish ozone at an alarming rate, by
stripping an atom from the ozone molecule. A single molecule of
chlorine can break apart thousands of molecules of ozone.

• Pollution prevention is a major global concern
because of its harmful effects on people's health
and the environment.
• Because we are all inhabitants on Earth,
everyone is a stakeholder, and every person has
something to contribute to advance effective
pollution prevention awareness.
• Environmental protection is a natural extension
of caring for ourselves and ensuring a sustainable
future for generations to come.

1. Every action or inaction of any person has an effect on the environment—
be it good, neutral, or negative. By becoming aware and doing the right
thing, we choose to be part of the solution. Here are some things you can
do:
2. Keep your car in good running condition to avoid emissions.
3. Share a ride or carpool.
4. Choose to walk or ride a bicycle whenever possible.
5. Never use open fires to dispose of waste, especially chemicals and plastic.
6. Adopt the 3 Rs of solid waste management: reduce, reuse, and recycle.
7. Buy local foods and goods. In this manner, the use of fuel for transporting
goods can be minimized.
8. Look around you house or place of business for ways you could conserve
water.
9. Use and buy products that are eco-friendly or made with biodegradable
materials. Avoid plastic.
10.Always bring a bag when you shop.
11.Plant more trees.
