This is a welding class assignment. Chapters 16 1. Explain the difference between the properties of brazing and soldering 2. Explain the difference between brazing and braze weldine 3. List two advantages of brazing over welding 4. What is capillary action? 5. List 4 methods of mechanically cleaning a metal prior to brazing 6. Explain what type of braze will be produced with each of the following flames. Oxidizing flame: Carburizing flame Neutral flame: 7. Which alloys make up the following materials? Brass Bronzea Solution sollution- 1)Brazing joins two metal by heating and melting a filler that bond to the two pieces of metal and join them. The filler has melting pont lower than the metal pieces. Brazing can join dissimilar metal such as aluminium, gold, copper , silver and nickel . Where as soldering is a llow temperature analog to brazing, soldering takes place with solder that melt at below 840oF . Following metals can be soldered such as, gold, copper, silver, iron and brass. When it solidifies, it joins the metal part. The bond is not as strong as in brazed joint. 2) In the braze welding process, the melting point of the filler wires is significantly lower to the melting point of the parent material. The molten metal flows into the gap between the parts to be joined and solidifies after wetting either across or between the surfaces via capillary action to form the solid joint. Brazing can join two dissimialar metal by heating and melting the filler that bond to the two pieces of metal and join them. 3)two advantages i) brazing does not allow the melting of base metals and produces a clean joint. ii) brazing is effective in joining two dissimilar metals.
