2. WHAT IS SOFTWARE
• SOFTWARE is a completely executable
program.
• Software, simply are the computer
programs. The instructions given to the
computer in the form of a program is
called Software. All the programs used in
computer to perform specific task is
called Software.

3. Two type of programming language
• Low level language: the language that is made by
computer in form of 0 & 1 is known as low level
language or machine language. Machine code is
low level because it runs directly on the processor.
• High level language: the computer language that
is made of command in common language like
English that can be easily read, written &
maintained by human is known as high level
language. These program must be translated into
machine language for processing inside a
computer. This translation is done using compiler
or interpreter.

4. Different Programming Language
• C: ‘C’ was developed in 1970’s by Dennis Ritchie
at Bell laboratories (now AT & T). ‘C’ is a
procedural programming language.
• C++ : C++ is object oriented implementation of
‘C’.
• JAVA: JAVA is an object oriented programming
language which is used for creating cross
platform programs.
• SQL: the structured query language is a
database paradigm language that enables one
to create and operate on relation database.

5. Operating System or Operating Software
• It acts as translator between machine and
human. (translators machine language to
human language and wise versa)
• Operating systems also perform basic tasks,
such as recognizing input from the keyboard,
sending output to the display screen, keeping
track of files and directories on the disk, and
controlling peripheral devices such as disk
drives and printers.

6. E.g.: Operating System
• Microsoft Windows:- over 90% of computer
users have Windows as operating systems.
E.g:- Windows 8; Windows 7; Windows XP;
Windows NT; Windows 98 etc
• Apple Mac OS X :- almost 7.5% percent of the
users have this as operating systems.
E.g:- Leopard and Tiger
• Linux :- it is available for free. It has market share
of 1%.
• Android :- Specially for Tablet PC. (by Google)
E.G :- ice-cream sandwich

7. APPLICATIONS SOFTWARE
• Applications software addresses the
capabilities of a computer directly and used in
tasks that the user wishes to perform. (Also
called end-user programs)
