Unrequited Love In My Wicked Wicked Ways By Sandra Cisneros
Unrequited Love If society was a person in itself, it would be a criminal. It has deceived human
beings into believing that love is supposed to be something that is always beautiful, euphoric and
extremely powerful. It pressures individuals into commitment, passion and desire while
simultaneously reminding them that an excess of one thing is not good. Society need to make up its
mind. As the world knows, love is not simply defined as a group of words; rather, it is many things
that are rooted to deep affection. Love presents itself in different shapes, forms and sizes, but what
happens to this endearment when it is one–sided? The sole attribute that every individual seek has
the potential to destroy most. Unrequited love poisons the character ... Show more content on

Sandra Cisneros illustrates in the poem "My Wicked Wicked Ways" a conflicted picture of a broken
family. It presents the idea of unrequited love. The mother of the speaker is holding onto a man that
has another partner, besides herself. Evidently, the father possesses strong feelings and emotions
towards his beloved mistress. However, the mother belittles herself and accepts the infidelity. The
hidden message behind "Here is my mother / She is not crying" reveals that the mother is unhappy
about the abuse of her love and trust, but pretends to be okay for the sake of her child (Cisneros
185). Love and commitment goes hand and hand; it is impossible to have one without the other.
Therefore, this example illustrates that the father does not wholeheartedly love his spouse. In
consequence, his wife suffers emotionally and relinquishes these emotions through tears. The effects
of this emotional abuse inflicted by unrequited love can subtly range from mood swings to a
complete emotional shutdown. Crying is her most effective outlet. The poem continues with "She
cannot look into the lens /because the sun is bright," as it creates an excuse for the agony inflicted
(Cisneros 185). It is evident that the mother of the speaker is only allowed to grieve short–term.
Rather, she masks her emotions and allows it to kill her inside than to be portrayed as emotionally
weak. Similar to the mother, most individuals that experience unrequited love tends to hide their
sorrows because of shame. They are not only ashamed of their partners inability to love them
correctly but at themselves for being ignorant to that fact. Many become angry at the world, few are
in denial; most endure hopelessness, and others fall into a deep abyss of depression. What every
individual that has experienced these one–sided expectations have in common is that they are all
unhappy. Depression is the worst consequence of it all,

I Liked More Was The One From Gretel Ehrlich
The essay I liked more was the one from Gretel Ehrlich I liked this essay because when she was
telling her story she was focusing on only one place. This essay was very different than Annie
Dillard I say this because when Annie was talking she didn't focus on only one place in her essay
she was focusing on many different places. I personally think that the essay from Gretel Ehrich was
the best. Why I think is the best is because when I was reading it I felt like I can picture what she
was talking about in my head. As I was readying this essay I felt like I can place myself in the place
she was describing for example when she was taking about being at the farm and other things she
made reference too. This essay was just really calm, essay to fallow, it was clear, and as I as
readying it I felt like I was connected to it. this is why I liked this essay more than the one from
Annie Dillard when I was readying the essay from Annie I just could focus on what she was talking
about because she would take her story to multiple places. She would be talking about one thing and
then she would all the sudden change it and this is what I didn't like about her essay because it was
just really hard to fallow with all the multiple places she was referring too. Another thing I think like
about it I that when it was telling her story she would repeat herself. This is what made it hard for
me to understand, it's just crazy and goes on and on. This is why I choose the essay from Gretel.

Does Oberon's Current Frustrations In What Ways Can Such...
A Midsummer's Night Dream Act Two Journal
Titania claims at Oberon's current frustrations with their relationship are "the forgeries of jealousy."
What else, in your opinion, has the ability to poison/taint love? And, in what ways can such love be
restored?
In the play A Midsummer's Night Dream by William Shakespeare it is shown that love is as delicate
as glass; ones broken, it can be fixed, but there will always be cracks. Queen Titania faces conflicts
with her king, Oberon. The conflict Titania faces is man vs. man, Titania vs. Oberon. Titania claims
at Oberon's current frustrations with their relationship are "the forgeries of jealousy" (2.1.82).
Titania and Oberon's relationship is poisoning due to Oberon's jealousy over the Indian prince, also
Oberon's is creating lies about Titania causing their relationship to poison. Lies, jealousy,
miscommunication and holding grudges have the ability to poison a relationship. When all these get
to an extreme we can lead a couple ending their love, but if willing the couple's love can be restored.
Love never dies, it is always there but however, love can be hurt. Once love ... Show more content

Step two: Rationalize its impact on your life. Is what your grudging about really that big of an issue?
Asses the impact the problem is going to have on your life. Ask yourself is it really worth grudging

Step three: Change the course of your relationship. To restore love you must change your negative
attitude. It's time to bury the hatchet and start over. Leave bad feelings behind and start fresh.
Step four: Leave the garage behind. After completing steps one through three it's time to just let it

An Equal Role Of People In The LGBT Community
People are people, no matter their sexuality or who they choose to love, so why treat them
differently? All people are the same, but yet others still seem to treat them differently if they are not
how they want them to be. Members of the LGBT community play an equal role in society because
they have jobs, they live their everyday lives, and they find love just like people who not part of this
community. The most common questions people ask or are concerned about are why do people in
this community get treated differently, is it fair that they have to go through the things they do, is it
really against the word of god (are they sinning just because they are different? These questions are
asked on a daily basis from different people all around the world, different ages, different genders,
by ¨normal¨ everyday people. People in the LGBT community are people too, therefore they should
not be treated differently than people who are not part of this community. What are they treated
differently for? Because they love who they want to love? Why is that such a problem, they have
just as much of a right to love who they want that other people do. Why do people get so offended
by their actions, they are not really hurting anybody, everybody has their own beliefs and feelings.
People are always in a person's business when they find out that they are part of this community, but
that's the problem their business is their business it does not concern anybody else except

Factors That Affect The Way Love And Attraction
Although it is shared, love is communicated in many ways depending on an individual's beliefs and
age. It is shared between two people, and can be passionate, intimate or committing. There are
several factors that affect the way love and attraction are felt and expressed. Immediacy,
understanding, connection, and physical desirability are all factors that influence attraction. Love
take on numerous procedures, and the time of life or developing period of the person involved in the
bond, the extent of the association, and the stage of development changes among the individuals. An
individual is attracted to others who are close to them, those who are good–looking, those who have
shared mindset in wisdom, those who are alike them, those that have reasonable connection with
them and those who are tough to get (Feenstra, 2013).
In the primary periods of socializing, individuals are further attracted to associates who they think
are really beautiful. Individuals are further expected to develop supports with individuals who are
physically near. People also have a habit of choosing companions who are comparable to themselves
in individualities such as stage of development, competition, belief, upbringing, character, teaching,
brainpower, and defiance. An individual could possibly have associates and companions who are
like them merely because of availability. They pursue an inoffensive haven; a dwelling to feel
sheltered and wanted by those they are attracted to. Countless

Questions On Finding A Perfect Woman
3 Steps To Finding A Perfect Woman
Every man can quickly find a woman to date if they lower their standards. But, it's not the way to
find the perfect woman and a long–lasting relationship.
If you want to find love that stands the test of time, it will be some work – BUT it will be worth it.
True love makes you feel great about yourself and your life, and it improves your health and
happiness and motivates you to strive towards more success.
So, how can you find a woman that's really a good match for you?
Step 1: Get Clear On Who You Want
How can you find the love of your life if you don 't know what she looks like? Writing down exactly
what you want in a woman will help you find her in a couple ways.
You WILL start to see more of who you want: Have you ever noticed that when you focus in on
something, you see more of that something? For instance, when you start to think about your dream
car, you see that car everywhere you go. It 's like everyone decided to get that car suddenly and the
road is covered in it. But, it 's not the cars that have changed, it 's your focus. You are clear on the
type of car you want, so that is what you see. It works with women too. Try it!
You stop accepting women you don 't want: When you get clear about who you want in your life,
you are less likely to accept a woman who doesn 't make you happy. Tony Robbins has said that we
tend to choose the option that is less painful. This is called the pain and pleasure principle. We will

Love The Way You Lie Analysis
The ccontroversial music video by Eminem ft. Rihanna is appealing to young people due to several
factors. The first factor as to why this video attracts young adults so much is because of the two stars
itself. Both Eminem and Rihanna have such a strong fan base not only in America but around the
world , so when these two got together to tell a story through a music video it brought in millions of
views. Aside from the celebrity factor, this video is appealing to young adults because

of the
intensity of the videos. Let's face it , whether a song is good or bad most people tend to watch or
continue to watch because the visuals are able to draw them in and this video did exactly that.
Finally, the video is also appealing to young adults ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The video is able to show the different phases individuals may go through when dealing with this
relationship, such as the honeymoon phase or the abusive phase. However, the song and music video
has faced much backlash due to it glorifying domestic violence disputes. It is out question that we as
human begins can be influenced by outside factors other than ourselves and the music industry is a
perfect example of such. The music industry and artist are known to display messages or even
symbols that can be quite questionable , so I am not suprised that this video is doing the same thing.
Music tends to reflect the culture and activies of its time. For example, Christina Aguileria created
the song Beautiful when numbers of bullying started to increase and when individuals felt like
outcast. However, what about domestic violence issues; there isn't much songs that support women
or even men in this type of relationships but we do see videos where the women or men end up
going back to the abuser, exactly what does that do. Not to mention, women in music videos are
more seen as objects the actual huan beings. For instance, in rap videos women are seen either
following the man around or twerking to gain his attention. The music industy tolerates and also
contributes to domesti violence , the only way that can change is if the music industry changes

How Literacy Is Used As A Communication Method
When it comes to understanding literacy I learned that reading, along with writing is used as a
communication method. However, there 's so much more to it than just obtaining the knowledge of
knowing how to read and write. It all truly depends on the way you use your skills in literature.
Literacy is different to each and every person, depending on who they are as a person. It can consist
of your culture, pronunciation, the way you dress, as well as all of your actions. That being said,
personally literature means not only knowing how to read and write, but the way we approach it as
an individual. For example, we are judged by the way we speak, look, act, where we come from, as
well as how we were raised. Which is all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I love her deeply, the way she spoke always bothered me as a child. My sister always
spoke "proper english" is what I will not call it, but politely and she understood how to express
herself and speak her mind in a polite manner. I was taught manners by my parents, greetings were
something you could not just pass by. "good morning" was to be said every morning to everyone in
the house along with a kiss otherwise it was a form of disrespect. A hug was followed with every
goodbye. Even though you could have been upset with a family member you were required to
forgive them and let the past stay in the past. Mainly because you never know if you are going to see
them tomorrow, living with regret is something no one wants. My father always told me, since I was
always a stubborn child, "forgiveness is not for the other person it is for you." At that moment I
realized he was right, the only person I was hurting all along was myself. Nevertheless, I have had a
time where I had to teach myself something that not only had disadvantages but some advantages as
well. Learning how to think before I spoke, Speaking your mind and the truths was always
something I believed in. However, I never realized that sometimes you have to think about the
consequences about your statement. Some days you have to tell people what they want to hear, not
the truth, but yes, in some occasions you have to speak your truths for the better of

Definition Essay: Love Comes In Different Ways
Love comes in different ways. Love is something we all look for in this crazy world we're living in.
Love makes us both happy and sad. Empty and full. Love is a complicated emotion that most of us
find it hard to understand. Be it storage, philos, erotic, agape or platonic love. We all crave love in
different ways. One theory of love is known as positivity resonance – "a concept similar to a limbic
revision – and likens the process to a mirror in which you and your partner's emotions come into
sync, reflecting and reinforcing one another." Positivity resonance happens when two people start
sharing their likes, dislikes, thoughts etc. to one another. It is when people just click – when two

It's when one is willing to invest time with another person. It is that positive energy that radiates
between people that makes them want to connect somehow, whether in a platonic or romantic way.
It's when you see yourself smiling because of this particular person that made you feel some type of
way. It is that feeling that make you feel good and wanting to just talk and vibe with someone.
Moments that just make you smile in an instant. Do you ever have those moments in your life that
makes you smile because of someone? It might be someone who greeted you good morning in that
coffee shop where you usually get your coffee before heading to work. Someone who held the door
for you. Someone who tells you things about them. It is exciting to find parts of yourself in someone
else. I have the deepest affection for intellectual conversations. The ability to just talk for hours. To
talk about what is really important in this life we are living. I once met a stranger, we were just
acquaintances back then. The time came that we started talking. We both got close and are interested
in each other that lead us to talking more often. We were then talking

Shadow Essay
For this assignment I chose to shadow my mother, Gidget Wray. Gidget is the owner of Hip Hip
HooWray Events and Designs. This business consists of a variety of wood designs which are

day to run on schedule. Running the studio comes with many complications. On a daily basis there
are problems to be solved. How Gidget handles these problems are very impressive. In the end the
customer is always pleased. When a customer is unhappy, for me it would very hard to figure out a
way to please them and not have a problem with the studio still running on schedule, but for my
Mother it is no problem. I think it is easy for my Mother to please a customer in a tough situation
because she has always told me "It is never too late to be nice to someone." This quote to me means
that no matter how upset that customer is you can always figure out a way to please them. My
experience really helped me understand the quote from Atticus Finch "You never really understand a
person until you consider things from his point of view–until you climb into his skin and walk
around in it." When I first read the quote I thought I understood it, but after spending this time with
her discussing and evaluating the way she thinks and works, it dawned on me how hard it was the be

How Values And Values Have Affected My Life
From the beginning of time, ancient philosophers and educators have taught different life
developmental skills to aid people as they grow. Those educators often taught students how to
develop ethical and moral character. With teaching those characteristics as a foundation they were
able to teach students to branch out and understand a deeper meaning of authenticity, virtue and
value. All three of these concepts are required to live a meaningful and balanced life in both the
physical, mental and spiritual realms. I will be discussing how authenticity, virtue and values have
affected my life, along with how they affect my future. Secondly, I will be discussing how these
principles have helped guide me through my life. Values, authenticity, and virtues have an effect on
a person from the time they were born and as they continue to age. Authenticity almost has a royal
name to where it must be respected and bowed to without question. In my book that is exactly how I
think of being authentic; it is being real and genuine without any deception. I could not think of a
better way to work, communicate, love, or develop any type of relationship with unless they were
honest and real. Deception and liars are not people I set out to communicate with. I feel bad for the
people who feel that they must deceive or hide who they are because being you is much easier.
Authenticity shapes my life because I am able to be genuine when working with others in my work
environment. According to

An Analysis Of ' The Torso Of Aphrodite '
During my visit to the Tampa Museum of Art, I observed and viewed various pieces from The
Classical World exhibit. While I observed numerous works, I was drawn to a specific piece due to
its uniqueness when compared to the other pieces in the exhibit. In this paper, I will be describing
The Torso of Aphrodite, using my own viewpoints and the elements of formal art analysis, in order
to explain the uniqueness when compared to other pieces in The Classical World exhibit.
The Torso of Aphrodite was constructed in the 1st century A.D. and is made entirely of marble. The
torso used to belong to a life–sized version statue of The Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. From the

As the robe simultaneously conceals and reveals, it blends nicely into the lower part of her torso.
Her body is proportioned smoothly, with no areas of obvious fault or imperfection. I think having
those sensual characteristics adds to her overall beauty.
This sculpture is comprised of marble, and due to its large size it was easier for me to develop an
impression about the piece because I can focus on specific parts in more detail. To understand the
piece, a very visual and detailed perspective is needed. Judging by the way the thighs are
represented, it appears as though she is striking a contrapposto pose, which makes her appear static.
She has most of her weight shifted on her left leg, but not all of it The focal point of this piece I
believe is her robe. It skillfully falls down her left side, while leaving other parts exposed, drawing
the main attention of this piece. Few different types of shapes are displayed, except the shape of her
legs and the form of the robe. The physical texture was smooth throughout the entire piece, partly
due to the material it is made of. There is only this one texture, as her robe and body parts all feel
the same.
The title of this piece is "Torso of Aphrodite/Venus". This piece was discovered outside of Rome in
1771. Afterwards, it was purchased by a wealthy English collector, who displayed it in his home.
Today, the piece resides at the

A Comparison Between The Way to Rainy Mountain and Love...
In the novels Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich and The Way to Rainy Mountain by N. Scott
Momaday, the reader gains views of Native American culture, both past and present, through two
disparate means of delivery. Both authors provide immensely rich portrayals through varying
literary devices in efforts to bring about a better understanding of problems contemporary Native
Americans face, especially regarding their own self–identity.
The story of Love Medicine revolves around a central character, June Kashpaw, and the many
threads of relationships surrounding her, both near the time of her death, and in what has gone on
before. The novel is an exploration of a family web that June was a key component of. Her character

Complications of plot are sparse, but are evident in an episodic fashion, as each small episode has its
own complexion and related complication that normally resolved within itself. In this regard of
episodic plots, the technique is similar to Love Medicine.
Erdrich appears to have a series of plots, or "plots within plots" in Love Medicine, At times, it is
difficult to anticipate where a plot exists until it becomes apparent in its crisis resolution. Again,
much like Momaday's work, the plots are episodic––the different stories are interconnected and feed
into one another, but are capable of standing alone withy their own plots. Erdrich makes heavy use
of the characters themselves to advance the plot for each episode, and in inter–relation between each
episode., whereas Momaday relies more on past story as a guide to present context.
Characterization is the strength of Love Medicine. The humorous, but tragic, exploits of eccentric
characters are extremely vivid in her story, and force a constant chnage of viewpoint for the reader
as more aspects of characters are revealed. The characters in this novel are a woven pattern of
intricacy possibly far surpassing the reader's ability, and especially surpassing the characters
themselves. This may be by design, as those things unresolved and disjointed by the end of the story
can promote an incomplete and unsettled set of emotions

Analysis Of Love The Way You Lie
"Love The Way You Lie," is a song sung by Eminem featuring Rihanna. Eminem, born as Marshall
Bruce Mathers, is an American rap musician from Missouri. Eminem had a rough life, being raised
only by his mother and constantly moving schools. He would always be beaten up and did not have
great marks, however he was always good at English and would even study the dictionary. He took
his knowledge of words and brought them into his passion of hip hop, which then started his career
in rap. As his career was taking off, he got into bad habits, personal struggles and addictions. In
2010, he managed to kick his addictions and bad habits, and make the album, "Recovery." In this
album, he rapped about his struggles in order to help others, "Love The Way You Lie" was one of

This song is full of multiple literary devices such as hyperboles, metaphors, and imagery. The
hyperboles in the song emphasize strong feelings such as love, hate, and pain. For example, "Just

amounts of pain and all that her significant other is doing, is watching her suffer. "You ever love

They costume domestic violence by using beautiful Fox and passionate love making, to turn the
violence into something almost resulting from too strong of love. Too many young men and women
will find this all provocatively sexy. The video portrays the woman looking beautiful, even while
being choked; the man tortured by his rage, longing for love and peace, and believing that if only the
woman would behave, then the man would retreat to serenity (Meyers). This however is not the real
perception people should be seeing, imagining, or believing. Abuse is not love in any shape or form,
but to subjective people who don't completely analyze the situation, it almost makes it look like in
this case domestic violence can be tolerated and justified. This is not the message we should be
sending to people in these types of situations or to some who may be faced with them later in life.
Domestic violence is already a huge problem in today's society. This song is not to blame for all of
it, but I'm sure it add's to the numbers involved. Statistic's have suggested violence is perpetrated
against women in almost half of all marriages (Domestic Violence).Statistic's gathered from 1994
indicate domestic violence causes almost 100,000 days of hospitalization, 30,000 emergency room
visits, 40,000 trips to the doctor every year, and 50% of all homeless woman and their children are

Our understanding can only ever be partial, and consequently we will always be 'partially' isolated
from the truth... but to what extent? McEwan's characterisation of Jed Parry provides an extreme
example of how isolation and obsession can become a damaging force in our lives.
Similarly in The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald also leads his reader to make their own response to
Gatsby's filtered perspective and moral choices. Fitzgerald uses his narrator Nick Carraway to steer
us to respond to Gatsby's unconventionally intense desire forMrs Daisy Buchanan (a beautiful and
wealthy socialite), as romantic and inspiring. But equally it could be argued that Gatsby's attempt to
seduce Daisy and breach her marriage to Tom is damaging and destructive, and to some extent as
delusional as Jed Parry's desire to separate Joe and Clarissa. Tom shouts incredulously, 'I suppose
the latest thing is to sit back and let Mr Nobody from Nowhere make love to your wife.' The
principal difference between the two novels is that Gatsby and his idealised love for Daisy is
portrayed sympathetically by his narrator, Nick Carraway, who has a romanticised view of Gatsby's
capacity to dream. Whereas Joe, as a victim of Jed Parry's unwanted love, is more critical. Fitzgerald
opens the novel with Carraway's judgment that

Way To Love
Are You Pleasing Others But Giving Up Yourself? By Diane Corriette Jan 6, 2009 In Anthony De
Mello's book 'The Way To Love' he talks alot about our attachment to people and things. In
particular he mentions our need to be loved by another as if we would die if they did not exist. When
we give up who we are to please another person we do what I call prostitute our being. We are no
longer ourselves but instead begin to conform to what they want/expect of us. Even when we think
we know what it is another person wants there are no guarantees that we will get it right so we live
in constant fear of making a mistake. That is no way to live and it is certainly no way to love. I am

Elizabeth Bishop's One Art and The Waiting Room Essays
American poet and short story writer Elizabeth Bishop lived between February 8, 1911– October 6,
1979. She won many awards such as The Pulitzer Prize, The National Book award, and The
Neustadt International Prize for literature in 1976. Bishop was said to work obsessively on her
poems and would spend years perfecting them. Two out of the many poems she wrote were "One
Art"( a poem about a woman who says we can master the art of losing), and "The Waiting Room" (A
speaker describing her experience as a young girl reading the National Geographic magazine, taking
place on February 1918). Elizabeth implicitly used the two poems to demonstrate how people are

Compare the Views of Relationships in ‘the Unequal...

Compare the views of relationships in 'The Unequal Fetters' with those in 'To his Coy Mistress'.
What is suggested about the different ways in which men and women view love?
'To His Coy Mistress' was written by Andrew Marvell (1621–1678). The poem is a metaphysical
poem, which was mostly used in the seventeenth century and was classed as a highly intellectual
type of poetry and mainly expressed the complexities of love and life; just as this poem is. In brief
the poem is about seizing every opportunity in life and not caring about the past or future. In other
words 'seize the day'. The poem also explores the nature of seduction.

Biblical references are used as he refers to Noah's arc and 'conversion of the Jews' which is the end
of the world. Marvell also uses euphemism 'vegetable love will grow' where he's saying he is getting
over excited. From line 23 to line 18 the man is trying to persuade her by using hyperbole, flattery
and exaggeration. On line 20 the man is telling the women how beautiful she is and how much he
loves her. Generally in the first section the man doesn't think much of the woman respect wise
because he's trying everything possible to get her.
One of Andrew Marvell's techniques was metaphysical poetry, e.g. 'vegetable love should grow' and
things contrasting between the physical and spiritual.
In section two the man is expressing that human life is to short and that no one can embrace and
love in the grave. The second section is known as the antithesis and that is the reaction to his
original ideas. The first word in the second section is 'but' which is a Volta and that means there's a
change in what the man is talking about. The tone gets darker and bleaker because he starts to use
imagery of death which is a consequence of not acting on his impulses and his desires.
Personification is used when the man says he always hears time's winged chariot hurrying near
which a personification of life is closing in on time. Hurrying is also is a verb. The man says
'Deserts' which is insinuating that his sex life is

Something Wicked This Way Comes: Perfect Love Casts Out...
In Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes, it is suggested among several other themes
in the novel that "Perfect Love casts out all fear." This quote taken from the Gospel of
John illustrates the point that where there is unconditional love, and one loves and is loved in return,
there is no fear. This can be believed, because when a person loves life and is content with what he
or she has, there is no room for regret. Likewise, when one loves a person and is loved in return,
there is trust in trust there is no doubt, and therefore there is no fear. In the novel, Mr Halloway
conquers his fear through the love of his son and is eventually saved, whereas Miss Foley us ruined

Halloway has cast out his fear with the perfect love.Miss Foley, Jim Nightshade and Will's seventh

her lost youth.
Although she is not an old woman, she feels that she, like Mr. Halloway, is getting closer to death.
When the carnival fills her every thought with false hopes of regaining her lost youth, she is
extremely tempted to take this offer, to "swim around with the carousel of summer."
This temptation leads her to place her life in the hands of the circus freaks after all, there is no one
else that she can trust. She soon consequentially realizes the magnitude of her mistake when she is
changed into a helpless, lonely, lost, and scared little girl. This teaches her as well as Jim, Will and

Compare the way love is presented in 'Sonnet 43' and 'Ghazal'
Both poems, Sonnet 43 and Ghazal convey emotions and passionate feelings of love in different
ways. Sonnets and Ghazals are poem that are meant to express strong feelings of love. Khalvati and
Barrett Browning chose them to illustrate their loving feelings to their lovers. Barrett Browning does
not correctly carry out all the rules of Sonnets in her poem which gives an effect that she would do
anything for her lover and that there are no rules to their love, whereas Khalvati does not break any
of rules in Ghazal, this might, perhaps mean that her love is unrequited and that she would follow all
the rules to get the attention of the person she loves.

She says that she loves him to the depth and breadth and height, which indicated that her love is
long lasting. The image "by sun and candlelight" that Barrett Browning creates, is that her love may
be ordinary like the sun, but its continuous since the light keeps shining day and night, which is why
she uses the candlelight to represent the light she has for him is still on at night. Another image that
Barrett Browning conveys is "I love thee freely, as men strive for Right, I love thee purely, as they
turn from Praise". This line shows that her love for him is of her own free choice and she compares
it to the nationalists that fight for their countries, indicating that their love is as strong as a person's
love is to their country. Barrett Browning also says, "I love thee with the passion, put to use/In my
old greifs... and with my childhood's faith" here, the poet redirected her emotions from her past
concerns onto her love. She states that her she loves him with her childhood's faith, which could
mean that she loves him with unquestioning confidence, just like a naïve child might.
Mimi Khalvati uses a wide range of words and phrases that are inspired by nature. "If I am the grass
and you the breeze, blow through me." Nature is a very beautiful and passionate thing, which might
explain why Khalvati chose to use it to associate her love with. She also says, "If I am the rose and
you the bird, then woo me" this line is also

Analysis Of Gruesome Playground Injuries
Gruesome Playground Injuries is a play written by Rajiv Joseph, the play had its world premiere in
October 2009 and an Off–Broadway production was open January 2011. Rajiv Joseph thought of the
play while having a drink and talking with his friend he then realized that you can mark chapters of
your life with injuries and decided to write a play about it. I have decided to write a review of this
play to go over how Aristotle's six components of a play have contributed to the overall experience
the play provides.
The play used a non–linear structure of scenes which went from a younger age of the characters to
and age sometime older and continued with this back and forth from young to old throughout the
play. By having the structure go back and forth between different times in the past instead of using
the typical linear structure that goes from past to present allows the play to have a way of being
suspenseful and keep the audience engaged and interested in watching to see what happens next.
Both Kayleen and Doug provide a lot of emotion and conflict to the play. Doug came from a loving
family that cared about him. Kayleen came from a broken family because her mom left when she
was young and her dad was emotionally abusive. They both suffer from mental disorders such as
anxiety depression and physical harm inflicted by themselves throughout the play.
A major theme in this play would be pain and injuries. This happens many times throughout the play
and in each scene either

Stereotypes/ the Glass Castle Essay

much potential and were very well educated in their own ways. People need to live by the quote
"Never judge a book by its cover" because you never know who they are until you meet them. In

The mother taught them that you should never judge someone by what you see or what you barely
know. "Everyone has something good about them," she said. "You have to find the redeeming
quality and love the person for that." (144). This quote is an example of Jeannette's mother telling
them that no matter what you should never judge anyone no matter who they are. To look beyond
what you see or have been told to see. You never really know who someone is until you actually
take the time to get to know them. The walls family moved from place to place and at one point they
stayed with their grandmother Erma. Their grandmother is a great example of some who stereotypes
others. Erma had a real big problem with African Americans. For reasons not explained she just
hated them. Jeannette did not agree with her grandmother on this part, she had always been brought
up to love others no matter whom they were. The walls family grew up with a lot of knowledge
book wise and streetwise. They more then you would think by just looking at them and the way they
lived. No matter how bad off the walls family seemed to be they always seemed to be living good
and happy how they were. In the end people who judge are probably being judged themselves.

After specific examination, I found that a rather catchy pop song, in fact, had a deeper and darker
theme to it because of the issues referenced within. Clear up until now, I never clearly understood
what was happening in the catchy pop song, "I Love the Way You Lie" by Eminem and Rihanna. I

after thorough examination, I found that my current opinions on the song were false. In truth, this
song had a deep and darker meaning to it. During the song, there

How Do I Love Thee? Let me Count the Ways by Elizabeth...
A flame of passion is contained within the heart, yet is love contained in a mere flame of passion?
This timeless saying embodies the ultimate declaration of love written by Elizabeth Barrett
Browning. "How Do I Love Thee? Let me Count the Ways" is a poem bathed in rhyme and
inundated in sentimental avowals. This sonnet shows the perpetual love that Browning shares with
her husband and how that love can never be destroyed by any power of human or spiritual nature
(Elizabeth Barrett Browning's: Sonnet 45). Based on answering one, seemingly simple yet complex,
question, "how do I love thee?" (Browning Line 1) is what this poem is based on. Using literary

"I love thee to the level of everyday's/Most quite need, by sun and candlelight" (Browning Line 5–6)
Browning continues using anaphora with the continually repeated "thee" (Browning Line 5) and
"the" (Browning Line 5). Explaining how her love is persistent throughout every second of the day,
even in the simplest of needs, synecdoche is used in "sun" (Browning Line 6) for day and "candle–
light" (Browning Line 6) for night.
Browning likens her deep feelings to religious, spiritual, emotional and even political aspiration and
goes on to employ repetition, the metaphor of Christian religious faith and a musical metrical and
rhyme scheme to develop and convey her ideas beautifully (Swanhorst). She addresses her
sweetheart with simplicity, charm and a refreshing innocence: "How do I love thee? Let me count
the ways. /I love thee to the depth and breadth and height/my soul can reach" (Browning Lines 1–3)
is deceptively simple and will be repeated many times in different ways. In order to express her wild
and free feelings in a very restricted sonnet form, Browning uses repetition often to help her fit in
with the stresses and unstresses of the sonnet pattern. The iambic meter dictates strict adherence.
Moving on, the word "freely" (Browning Line 7) not only evokes ideas of freedom in

With that being said, I felt what Susie was lacking was self–love and that she felt that the only thing
she could control was her weight. She told me that she would reward herself on days when she felt
'pretty' by buying shoes and outerwear that she did not need (Figure 5, 6). I came to realize that she
has to love herself before being able to fully love someone else. During the interview she stated that
she has never been able to trust someone let alone love someone fully. She explained that it is like
'wanting attention, wanting someone to compliment you on your appearance, but when they do, you
tell them you disagree with what they have said, because you do not believe it yourself'. Susie she

so that she does not have to worry if the garment is hugging onto her form like the prom dress did.
She always found herself not wanting anyone to see her figure, until she, herself, can say she looks

Examine the Ways in Which Poets Portray the Experience of...
Examine the ways in which poets portray the experience of love in 2 poems that you have read. You
may wish to explore the types of love, the effects of love and how the poets use language and
structure.
In Havisham and Sonnet 43 we are given a good idea of how two poets can have different opinions
on the experience of love.
Havishams experience of love is violent with dark implications of death "Beloved sweetheart
bastard." The plosive alliteration of B emphasises her hatred towards her ex and shows her
experience is brutal. The oxymoron's show her confusion and the use of antithesis helps us realise
that she hates that she loves him. "Bastard" indicates odium and the use of caesura and "beloved"

Havisham and sonnet 43 are also similar because they both portray an intense and encompassing
experience. In Havisham her love is seen as erratic "Bite awake." "Bite" indicates dark imagery and
extreme feelings. "Awake" also shows us that she realises that this is reality and possibly doesn't
want it to be, this theme continues in the poem where shock is displayed "bang." Sonnet 43 is also
alike as Elizabeth says that "I love thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints" which
proves that her experience of love has taken over everything as she is willing to be with him instead
of god.
Finally Havisham and Sonnet 43 can also be seen as different as Havisham describes physical
fantasies whereas Elizabeth real intimacy. Havisham asks for "a male corpse" and describes the "lost
body" over her. "Give me" suggests aggression and desperation and "male corpse" advocates
acrophilia, which makes you wonder how deranged Havisham is. "Lost body" also indicates
physical happenings with a dead person, a sick, unrequited experience. Sonnet 43 however is much
more real "I love thee with the passion put to use." "Passion" tells us that the love is intimate and
"put to use" tells us that the love is requited, all things that Havisham isn't.
These two poems both portray similar experiences and types of love but also differ. They can teach
us a lot about the poet's feelings and help us explore the effects and nature of

entertainment culture was an outlet for young men and women to show off each other in order to

Those winter Sundays illustrates an inspirational picture in the mind of the reader. A dedicated father
who works each day to make his family comfortable, however they don 't value his acts of good
will, nor did they give him any credit. Great use of imagery through out the poem really emphasized
Hayden 's message. Hayden recollects memory of this specific Sunday morning. Using the word
"too" suggests that the father rises early consistently, regardless of what day it is. He dresses in the
severe cold. His hands have cracks as a result of the cold weather and the grueling work that he does
each day. Hayden 's father lights the stoves and chimneys to warm the house up for his family. His
striking words make me invoke thoughts in my mind of this persevering dad up alone wide open to
the harsh elements. This was a great use of imagery. When he noted "cracked hands that ached", this
was used to indicate how hard working he was, as well as a symbol for all the agony and
inconvenience he was willing to experience for his family. Hayden depicted sounds and in addition
pictures in the same elucidating way when he wrote I awoke and heard the cold splintering,
breaking. Possibly what Hayden heard was cracking noises that came from the fire or ice softening
off of the windows. In any case, this decision of imagery is utilized to

clever, helpful, creative and fun teacher. She achieved all the conditions that student need. She gave
me the confidence by making me feel and think positively all the time. Her encourage insights make
me rethink my work to make it better. If I want to thank her, it would not be enough for working
with me hardly to make me improve and finish the class with best results. The way she is
transferring the knowledge makes you interesting and want to learn and know more about it.
Challenges are the key to creative new things.
Mrs. Pongratz is the creative person by thinking in different. Creative is doing the same thing
everyone else do, but in different thoughts and ways. Like Einstein said, "Creativity is seeing what
everyone else has seen, and thinking what no one else has thought." There was an article and has
some information on it, so she collected them and created a poetry to make the information easier
for student to remember it in the way they are interested. Also, she made a Kahoot game and made
racing between two groups. She does a challenge between students as well. These games helped me
to remember better than I only study. She spread her excitement like a virus in the class with her
surprises. She let the students focus by making them moving around and encourage them.
Improvement is taking time, but you have to be patient and don't give up. Just because

Theme Of The Song That's The Way Love Mean
The Song's Information The sensual and romantic song "That's the Way Love Goes" changes Janet
Jackson into a confident, self–sufficient, and glamorous musician from the girl next door. As the
lead single on her fifth studio album, Janet, it achieved a great success not only in the U.S. but also
around the world. The song entered the Billboard Hot 100 and became the number one song on the
list for eight weeks. It was also reigning the most famous hit on Hot 100 Airplay for ten weeks.
Moreover, the song became a smash hit internationally, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand,
Hungary, South Africa, Japan and Europe (1). Although Janet won six Grammys in total, "That's the
Ways Love Goes" is the only one Grammy for songwriting. (2) Musically, ... Show more content on

She set foot in multifarious areas including singing, songwriting, dancing, and acting. As one of the
best–selling artists in the history of contemporary music, Janet was highly valued by listeners even
though she had not released new songs for a long time. The Billboard lists the top diva's 10 No.1
hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including "That's the Way Love Goes" (1993), "Together Again"
(1997), "Miss You Much" (1989), "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" (1991), "When I think of
You" (1986), "Escapade" (1990), "Black Cat" (1990), "All for You" (2001), "Again" (1993) and
"Doesn't Really Matter" (2000). The most famous number one hit of Janet is "That's the Way Love
Goes", which is an ever–victorious in many awards. It also provides her a good beginning to
produce more sexy songs. (9) The life of Janet Jackson seems to be decided as she born in an artistic
family. At the age of ten, Janet made her debut with the show "The Jacksons". Janet joined several
teleplays during her childhood, however, she does not like the show business. After she released the
second album, Dream Street, Janet decided to break away from her controlling father and pursue the
music career by herself. Finally, she has proved herself as a talent

The Variety of Ways in Which Chaucer Treats the Subject of...
Write an essay on the variety of ways in which Chaucer treats the subject of love.
Within ten stories in the Canterbury Tales, men and women on the way to, or in marriage provide
the ostensible subject, with six tales expounding largely on love and its counterpart in marriage. In
comic tales, sexual activity is constantly relished, especially in the
Miller's Tale and the Reeve's Tale, where love is defined and motivated by animalistic physical
desire and relationships clouded with lies and deceit. In contrast, romances like the Knight's Tale
and the Franklin's Tale have a high ideal of relaxed and trusting harmony,
"Thus been they bothe in quiete and rest", relying also on the poetics of courtly love. Then we have

This of course scandalized the Clerk– he was unworldly and an ascetic, he "looked holwe and therto
sobrely", and thus he becomes the mantle of a corrector of false views about love and matrimony
after the Friar and Summoner and gives a view of love as pure and sacrificial, with Griselda as the
epitome of patience and ungrudging obedience. By use of the same term, 'Boweth your nekke under
that blisful yok of soveraynetee', clearly the Clerk, through his tale, is answering the Wife of Bath,
through a character who was the exact antithesis of hers. The Merchant, coming after the Clerk,
upsets the balance again, painting a cynical view of love in contrast, and once again continues the
love debate in his own fashion and pattern ("And let him care and wepe and wringe and waile"–
"Weping and wayling, care and other sorwe"). The Host then once again comes interrupts, and
requests to turn the debate away from marriage to love "Squier, set somewhat of love", where pure
romance, in the medieval sense is now introduced, reminding us of the beginning of the Knight's
tale, and illustrating the charm of a variety of tales depicting the various illustrations of love.
However, Chaucer's plan in this Act is not yet finished– there is still the gap of the relations between
husband and wife, a certain superficiality of love not yet mentioned, the love
which

Compare the ways in which Donne presents the experience of...
In both 'The Sun Rising' and 'The Good Morrow' Donne presents the experience of love, in a typical
Metaphysical style, to engage his reader through sharing his own experiences. These poems show
distinctive characteristics of Metaphysical poems which involve colloquial diction, drawing
inventive imagery from unconventional sources, passionately analysing relationships and examining
feelings. Donne presents the experience of love through conceits, Metaphysical wit, language
techniques and imagery, in a confident tone using logical argument. The impact of Donne's use of
direct and idiomatic language shows the reader how he feels about a woman and ultimately love.
In 'The Sun Rising' the tone and the language Donne uses when interacting ... Show more content on

Finally in the first stanza Donne uses an emphatic rhyming couplet to state that nothing, not even the
'Sun...Nor hours, days, months' can control the lovers. He seems adamant in persuading himself he
is truly in love and rebels against the sun who he sees as his enemy because he is ruining his
experience of love.
In the next stanza Donne continues to mock and tease the sun asking in another rhetorical question
'Thy beams so reverend and strong/ Why shouldst thou think?' It seems his ego has entered a contest
with the sun. He argues that 'I could eclipse and cloud them (the Sun's rays) with a wink' but he
realises if he closes his eyes he 'would lose her sight' showing that he does not want to fail to notice
his lover's beauty. In a direct judgment Donne compares his lover to 'th'Indias of spice and mine'
which at the time were valuable parts of the world. This conceit shows his growing feelings towards
his lover. Donne emphasises his love for his woman by insisting that she is better than 'those Kings'
and tells the sun 'All here in one bed lay'.
In the final stanza, Donne's poetic conceit is a whimsical poetic image of his feelings underlying the
experience of love. A clear example of this is 'She is all states, and all princes I;/Nothing else is;'
where Donne also uses trochaic and spondaic rhythm which emphasises the point phonetically. As in
both poems, Donne's temperament

Unrequited Love In My Wicked Wicked Ways By Sandra Cisneros

  • 1. Unrequited Love In My Wicked Wicked Ways By Sandra Cisneros Unrequited Love If society was a person in itself, it would be a criminal. It has deceived human beings into believing that love is supposed to be something that is always beautiful, euphoric and extremely powerful. It pressures individuals into commitment, passion and desire while simultaneously reminding them that an excess of one thing is not good. Society need to make up its mind. As the world knows, love is not simply defined as a group of words; rather, it is many things that are rooted to deep affection. Love presents itself in different shapes, forms and sizes, but what happens to this endearment when it is one–sided? The sole attribute that every individual seek has the potential to destroy most. Unrequited love poisons the character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sandra Cisneros illustrates in the poem "My Wicked Wicked Ways" a conflicted picture of a broken family. It presents the idea of unrequited love. The mother of the speaker is holding onto a man that has another partner, besides herself. Evidently, the father possesses strong feelings and emotions towards his beloved mistress. However, the mother belittles herself and accepts the infidelity. The hidden message behind "Here is my mother / She is not crying" reveals that the mother is unhappy about the abuse of her love and trust, but pretends to be okay for the sake of her child (Cisneros 185). Love and commitment goes hand and hand; it is impossible to have one without the other. Therefore, this example illustrates that the father does not wholeheartedly love his spouse. In consequence, his wife suffers emotionally and relinquishes these emotions through tears. The effects of this emotional abuse inflicted by unrequited love can subtly range from mood swings to a complete emotional shutdown. Crying is her most effective outlet. The poem continues with "She cannot look into the lens /because the sun is bright," as it creates an excuse for the agony inflicted (Cisneros 185). It is evident that the mother of the speaker is only allowed to grieve short–term. Rather, she masks her emotions and allows it to kill her inside than to be portrayed as emotionally weak. Similar to the mother, most individuals that experience unrequited love tends to hide their sorrows because of shame. They are not only ashamed of their partners inability to love them correctly but at themselves for being ignorant to that fact. Many become angry at the world, few are in denial; most endure hopelessness, and others fall into a deep abyss of depression. What every individual that has experienced these one–sided expectations have in common is that they are all unhappy. Depression is the worst consequence of it all, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I Liked More Was The One From Gretel Ehrlich The essay I liked more was the one from Gretel Ehrlich I liked this essay because when she was telling her story she was focusing on only one place. This essay was very different than Annie Dillard I say this because when Annie was talking she didn't focus on only one place in her essay she was focusing on many different places. I personally think that the essay from Gretel Ehrich was the best. Why I think is the best is because when I was reading it I felt like I can picture what she was talking about in my head. As I was readying this essay I felt like I can place myself in the place she was describing for example when she was taking about being at the farm and other things she made reference too. This essay was just really calm, essay to fallow, it was clear, and as I as readying it I felt like I was connected to it. this is why I liked this essay more than the one from Annie Dillard when I was readying the essay from Annie I just could focus on what she was talking about because she would take her story to multiple places. She would be talking about one thing and then she would all the sudden change it and this is what I didn't like about her essay because it was just really hard to fallow with all the multiple places she was referring too. Another thing I think like about it I that when it was telling her story she would repeat herself. This is what made it hard for me to understand, it's just crazy and goes on and on. This is why I choose the essay from Gretel. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the play A Midsummer's Night Dream by William Shakespeare it is shown that love is as delicate as glass; ones broken, it can be fixed, but there will always be cracks. Queen Titania faces conflicts with her king, Oberon. The conflict Titania faces is man vs. man, Titania vs. Oberon. Titania claims at Oberon's current frustrations with their relationship are "the forgeries of jealousy" (2.1.82). Titania and Oberon's relationship is poisoning due to Oberon's jealousy over the Indian prince, also Oberon's is creating lies about Titania causing their relationship to poison. Lies, jealousy, miscommunication and holding grudges have the ability to poison a relationship. All people are the same, but yet others still seem to treat them differently if they are not how they want them to be. Members of the LGBT community play an equal role in society because they have jobs, they live their everyday lives, and they find love just like people who not part of this community. The most common questions people ask or are concerned about are why do people in this community get treated differently, is it fair that they have to go through the things they do, is it really against the word of god (are they sinning just because they are different? These questions are asked on a daily basis from different people all around the world, different ages, different genders, by ¨normal¨ everyday people. People in the LGBT community are people too, therefore they should not be treated differently than people who are not part of this community. What are they treated differently for? Because they love who they want to love? Why is that such a problem, they have just as much of a right to love who they want that other people do. Why do people get so offended by their actions, they are not really hurting anybody, everybody has their own beliefs and feelings. It is shared between two people, and can be passionate, intimate or committing. There are several factors that affect the way love and attraction are felt and expressed. Immediacy, understanding, connection, and physical desirability are all factors that influence attraction. Love take on numerous procedures, and the time of life or developing period of the person involved in the bond, the extent of the association, and the stage of development changes among the individuals. An individual is attracted to others who are close to them, those who are good–looking, those who have shared mindset in wisdom, those who are alike them, those that have reasonable connection with them and those who are tough to get (Feenstra, 2013). In the primary periods of socializing, individuals are further attracted to associates who they think are really beautiful. Individuals are further expected to develop supports with individuals who are physically near. People also have a habit of choosing companions who are comparable to themselves in individualities such as stage of development, competition, belief, upbringing, character, teaching, brainpower, and defiance. True love makes you feel great about yourself and your life, and it improves your health and happiness and motivates you to strive towards more success. Writing down exactly what you want in a woman will help you find her in a couple ways. You WILL start to see more of who you want: Have you ever noticed that when you focus in on something, you see more of that something? For instance, when you start to think about your dream car, you see that car everywhere you go. It 's like everyone decided to get that car suddenly and the road is covered in it. But, it 's not the cars that have changed, it 's your focus. You are clear on the type of car you want, so that is what you see. It works with women too. Try it! You stop accepting women you don 't want: When you get clear about who you want in your life, you are less likely to accept a woman who doesn 't make you happy. The first factor as to why this video attracts young adults so much is because of the two stars itself. Both Eminem and Rihanna have such a strong fan base not only in America but around the world , so when these two got together to tell a story through a music video it brought in millions of views. Aside from the celebrity factor, this video is appealing to young adults because of the intensity of the videos. However, the song and music video has faced much backlash due to it glorifying domestic violence disputes. It is out question that we as human begins can be influenced by outside factors other than ourselves and the music industry is a perfect example of such. The music industry and artist are known to display messages or even symbols that can be quite questionable , so I am not suprised that this video is doing the same thing. Music tends to reflect the culture and activies of its time. For example, Christina Aguileria created the song Beautiful when numbers of bullying started to increase and when individuals felt like outcast. However, what about domestic violence issues; there isn't much songs that support women or even men in this type of relationships but we do see videos where the women or men end up going back to the abuser, exactly what does that do. Not to mention, women in music videos are more seen as objects the actual huan beings. For instance, in rap videos women are seen either following the man around or twerking to gain his attention. However, there 's so much more to it than just obtaining the knowledge of knowing how to read and write. It all truly depends on the way you use your skills in literature. Those educators often taught students how to develop ethical and moral character. With teaching those characteristics as a foundation they were able to teach students to branch out and understand a deeper meaning of authenticity, virtue and value. All three of these concepts are required to live a meaningful and balanced life in both the physical, mental and spiritual realms. I will be discussing how authenticity, virtue and values have affected my life, along with how they affect my future. Secondly, I will be discussing how these principles have helped guide me through my life. Values, authenticity, and virtues have an effect on a person from the time they were born and as they continue to age. Authenticity almost has a royal name to where it must be respected and bowed to without question. In my book that is exactly how I think of being authentic; it is being real and genuine without any deception. I could not think of a better way to work, communicate, love, or develop any type of relationship with unless they were honest and real. Deception and liars are not people I set out to communicate with. I feel bad for the people who feel that they must deceive or hide who they are because being you is much easier. The Torso of Aphrodite was constructed in the 1st century A.D. and is made entirely of marble. The torso used to belong to a life–sized version statue of The Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. To understand the piece, a very visual and detailed perspective is needed. Judging by the way the thighs are represented, it appears as though she is striking a contrapposto pose, which makes her appear static. Again, much like Momaday's work, the plots are episodic––the different stories are interconnected and feed into one another, but are capable of standing alone withy their own plots. Erdrich makes heavy use of the characters themselves to advance the plot for each episode, and in inter–relation between each episode., whereas Momaday relies more on past story as a guide to present context. Characterization is the strength of Love Medicine. The humorous, but tragic, exploits of eccentric characters are extremely vivid in her story, and force a constant chnage of viewpoint for the reader as more aspects of characters are revealed. Fitzgerald uses his narrator Nick Carraway to steer us to respond to Gatsby's unconventionally intense desire forMrs Daisy Buchanan (a beautiful and wealthy socialite), as romantic and inspiring. But equally it could be argued that Gatsby's attempt to seduce Daisy and breach her marriage to Tom is damaging and destructive, and to some extent as delusional as Jed Parry's desire to separate Joe and Clarissa. Tom shouts incredulously, 'I suppose the latest thing is to sit back and let Mr Nobody from Nowhere make love to your wife.' The principal difference between the two novels is that Gatsby and his idealised love for Daisy is portrayed sympathetically by his narrator, Nick Carraway, who has a romanticised view of Gatsby's capacity to dream. • 77. Elizabeth Bishop's One Art and The Waiting Room Essays American poet and short story writer Elizabeth Bishop lived between February 8, 1911– October 6, 1979. She won many awards such as The Pulitzer Prize, The National Book award, and The Neustadt International Prize for literature in 1976. Bishop was said to work obsessively on her poems and would spend years perfecting them. Two out of the many poems she wrote were "One Art"( a poem about a woman who says we can master the art of losing), and "The Waiting Room" (A speaker describing her experience as a young girl reading the National Geographic magazine, taking place on February 1918). Elizabeth implicitly used the two poems to demonstrate how people are connected through their own vulnerability. Everyone has emotions to certain images or ... It was an unexpected realization that her reactions connected her to her aunt in a way she never felt before in her six years. "Lose something everyday. Its as if shes telling you to accept it, but she implicitly is showing us that shes not over her losses. She wants everyone to believe shes fine but we as the readers are not buying it. We humans are scared of the unknown. The unknown could be something you just found out about and don't clearly understand, or something you can't understand so you decide to avoid. "So many things seem filled with the intent/to be lost that their loss is no disaster."(1.2–3), the speaker feels as if things are not meant to last. What is suggested about the different ways in which men and women view love? 'To His Coy Mistress' was written by Andrew Marvell (1621–1678). The poem is a metaphysical poem, which was mostly used in the seventeenth century and was classed as a highly intellectual type of poetry and mainly expressed the complexities of love and life; just as this poem is. In brief the poem is about seizing every opportunity in life and not caring about the past or future. In other words 'seize the day'. The poem also explores the nature of seduction. Marvell also uses euphemism 'vegetable love will grow' where he's saying he is getting over excited. From line 23 to line 18 the man is trying to persuade her by using hyperbole, flattery and exaggeration. On line 20 the man is telling the women how beautiful she is and how much he loves her. Generally in the first section the man doesn't think much of the woman respect wise because he's trying everything possible to get her. One of Andrew Marvell's techniques was metaphysical poetry, e.g. 'vegetable love should grow' and things contrasting between the physical and spiritual. In section two the man is expressing that human life is to short and that no one can embrace and love in the grave. The second section is known as the antithesis and that is the reaction to his original ideas. The first word in the second section is 'but' which is a Volta and that means there's a change in what the man is talking about. The tone gets darker and bleaker because he starts to use imagery of death which is a consequence of not acting on his impulses and his desires. Personification is used when the man says he always hears time's winged chariot hurrying near which a personification of life is closing in on time. Hurrying is also is a verb. In Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes, it is suggested among several other themes in the novel that "Perfect Love casts out all fear." This quote taken from the Gospel of John illustrates the point that where there is unconditional love, and one loves and is loved in return, there is no fear. This can be believed, because when a person loves life and is content with what he or she has, there is no room for regret. Likewise, when one loves a person and is loved in return, there is trust in trust there is no doubt, and therefore there is no fear. In the novel, Mr Halloway conquers his fear through the love of his son and is eventually saved, whereas Miss Foley us ruined by her preoccupation with fear and failure to ... Focusing on living a content life rather than regretting the past, and learning to love rather than fearing that love, Mr. Halloway has cast out his fear with the perfect love.Miss Foley, Jim Nightshade and Will's seventh grade teacher, is tormented by the same fear. She leads a lonely life full of regret and self pity over her lost youth. Although she is not an old woman, she feels that she, like Mr. Halloway, is getting closer to death. When the carnival fills her every thought with false hopes of regaining her lost youth, she is extremely tempted to take this offer, to "swim around with the carousel of summer." This temptation leads her to place her life in the hands of the circus freaks after all, there is no one else that she can trust. She soon consequentially realizes the magnitude of her mistake when she is changed into a helpless, lonely, lost, and scared little girl. Compare the way love is presented in 'Sonnet 43' and 'Ghazal' Both poems, Sonnet 43 and Ghazal convey emotions and passionate feelings of love in different ways. Sonnets and Ghazals are poem that are meant to express strong feelings of love. Khalvati and Barrett Browning chose them to illustrate their loving feelings to their lovers. Barrett Browning does not correctly carry out all the rules of Sonnets in her poem which gives an effect that she would do anything for her lover and that there are no rules to their love, whereas Khalvati does not break any of rules in Ghazal, this might, perhaps mean that her love is unrequited and that she would follow all the rules to get the attention of the person she loves. The image "by sun and candlelight" that Barrett Browning creates, is that her love may be ordinary like the sun, but its continuous since the light keeps shining day and night, which is why she uses the candlelight to represent the light she has for him is still on at night. Another image that Barrett Browning conveys is "I love thee freely, as men strive for Right, I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise". This line shows that her love for him is of her own free choice and she compares it to the nationalists that fight for their countries, indicating that their love is as strong as a person's love is to their country. Barrett Browning also says, "I love thee with the passion, put to use/In my old greifs... and with my childhood's faith" here, the poet redirected her emotions from her past concerns onto her love. She states that her she loves him with her childhood's faith, which could mean that she loves him with unquestioning confidence, just like a naïve child might. Analysis Of Gruesome Playground Injuries Gruesome Playground Injuries is a play written by Rajiv Joseph, the play had its world premiere in October 2009 and an Off–Broadway production was open January 2011. Rajiv Joseph thought of the play while having a drink and talking with his friend he then realized that you can mark chapters of your life with injuries and decided to write a play about it. I have decided to write a review of this play to go over how Aristotle's six components of a play have contributed to the overall experience the play provides. The play used a non–linear structure of scenes which went from a younger age of the characters to and age sometime older and continued with this back and forth from young to old throughout the play. By having the structure go back and forth between different times in the past instead of using the typical linear structure that goes from past to present allows the play to have a way of being suspenseful and keep the audience engaged and interested in watching to see what happens next. Both Kayleen and Doug provide a lot of emotion and conflict to the play. Doug came from a loving family that cared about him. Kayleen came from a broken family because her mom left when she was young and her dad was emotionally abusive. They both suffer from mental disorders such as anxiety depression and physical harm inflicted by themselves throughout the play. A major theme in this play would be pain and injuries. This happens many times throughout the play and in each scene either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Memoir "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls, others would easily misjudge Jeannette's family just by their image and the way they lived their life. Although they lived the way they did the walls family had much potential and were very well educated in their own ways. People need to live by the quote "Never judge a book by its cover" because you never know who they are until you meet them. In todays society people tend to stereotype others in many ways. You never really know who someone is until you actually take the time to get to know them. The walls family moved from place to place and at one point they stayed with their grandmother Erma. This timeless saying embodies the ultimate declaration of love written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. "How Do I Love Thee? Let me Count the Ways" is a poem bathed in rhyme and inundated in sentimental avowals. This sonnet shows the perpetual love that Browning shares with her husband and how that love can never be destroyed by any power of human or spiritual nature (Elizabeth Barrett Browning's: Sonnet 45). "I love thee to the level of everyday's/Most quite need, by sun and candlelight" (Browning Line 5–6) Browning continues using anaphora with the continually repeated "thee" (Browning Line 5) and "the" (Browning Line 5). Explaining how her love is persistent throughout every second of the day, even in the simplest of needs, synecdoche is used in "sun" (Browning Line 6) for day and "candle– light" (Browning Line 6) for night. Browning likens her deep feelings to religious, spiritual, emotional and even political aspiration and goes on to employ repetition, the metaphor of Christian religious faith and a musical metrical and rhyme scheme to develop and convey her ideas beautifully (Swanhorst). She addresses her sweetheart with simplicity, charm and a refreshing innocence: "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. /I love thee to the depth and breadth and height/my soul can reach" (Browning Lines 1–3) is deceptively simple and will be repeated many times in different ways. In order to express her wild and free feelings in a very restricted sonnet form, Browning uses repetition often to help her fit in with the stresses and unstresses of the sonnet pattern. The iambic meter dictates strict adherence. Moving on, the word "freely" (Browning Line 7) not only evokes ideas of freedom in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She told me that she would reward herself on days when she felt 'pretty' by buying shoes and outerwear that she did not need (Figure 5, 6). I came to realize that she has to love herself before being able to fully love someone else. During the interview she stated that she has never been able to trust someone let alone love someone fully. She explained that it is like 'wanting attention, wanting someone to compliment you on your appearance, but when they do, you tell them you disagree with what they have said, because you do not believe it yourself'. You may wish to explore the types of love, the effects of love and how the poets use language and structure. In Havisham and Sonnet 43 we are given a good idea of how two poets can have different opinions on the experience of love. Havisham and sonnet 43 are also similar because they both portray an intense and encompassing experience. In Havisham her love is seen as erratic "Bite awake." "Bite" indicates dark imagery and extreme feelings. "Awake" also shows us that she realises that this is reality and possibly doesn't want it to be, this theme continues in the poem where shock is displayed "bang." Sonnet 43 is also alike as Elizabeth says that "I love thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints" which proves that her experience of love has taken over everything as she is willing to be with him instead of god. Finally Havisham and Sonnet 43 can also be seen as different as Havisham describes physical fantasies whereas Elizabeth real intimacy. Havisham asks for "a male corpse" and describes the "lost body" over her. "Give me" suggests aggression and desperation and "male corpse" advocates acrophilia, which makes you wonder how deranged Havisham is. "Lost body" also indicates physical happenings with a dead person, a sick, unrequited experience. Sonnet 43 however is much more real "I love thee with the passion put to use." "Passion" tells us that the love is intimate and "put to use" tells us that the love is requited, all things that Havisham isn't. Imagery Those winter Sundays illustrates an inspirational picture in the mind of the reader. A dedicated father who works each day to make his family comfortable, however they don 't value his acts of good will, nor did they give him any credit. Great use of imagery through out the poem really emphasized Hayden 's message. Hayden recollects memory of this specific Sunday morning. Using the word "too" suggests that the father rises early consistently, regardless of what day it is. He dresses in the severe cold. His hands have cracks as a result of the cold weather and the grueling work that he does each day. Hayden 's father lights the stoves and chimneys to warm the house up for his family. His striking words make me invoke thoughts in my mind of this persevering dad up alone wide open to the harsh elements. This was a great use of imagery. I totally agree with him because teacher matters. Teachers can change someone's feeling or thinking by the way they teach students. For example, I loving math is caused by my math teacher when I was in middle school. Teaching is really hard duty, so not everyone can be a good teacher. The teacher who influenced me is Mrs. Suzan Pongratz because she is a creative teacher, encouraging students by offering incentives them, and organizing in her class and that's made her class more ambiguous and dissimilar than others. Within ten stories in the Canterbury Tales, men and women on the way to, or in marriage provide the ostensible subject, with six tales expounding largely on love and its counterpart in marriage. In comic tales, sexual activity is constantly relished, especially in the Miller's Tale and the Reeve's Tale, where love is defined and motivated by animalistic physical desire and relationships clouded with lies and deceit. In contrast, romances like the Knight's Tale and the Franklin's Tale have a high ideal of relaxed and trusting harmony, "Thus been they bothe in quiete and rest", relying also on the poetics of courtly love. Then we have the blend of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This of course scandalized the Clerk– he was unworldly and an ascetic, he "looked holwe and therto sobrely", and thus he becomes the mantle of a corrector of false views about love and matrimony after the Friar and Summoner and gives a view of love as pure and sacrificial, with Griselda as the epitome of patience and ungrudging obedience. By use of the same term, 'Boweth your nekke under that blisful yok of soveraynetee', clearly the Clerk, through his tale, is answering the Wife of Bath, through a character who was the exact antithesis of hers. The Merchant, coming after the Clerk, upsets the balance again, painting a cynical view of love in contrast, and once again continues the love debate in his own fashion and pattern ("And let him care and wepe and wringe and waile"– "Weping and wayling, care and other sorwe"). The Host then once again comes interrupts, and requests to turn the debate away from marriage to love "Squier, set somewhat of love", where pure romance, in the medieval sense is now introduced, reminding us of the beginning of the Knight's tale, and illustrating the charm of a variety of tales depicting the various illustrations of love. However, Chaucer's plan in this Act is not yet finished– there is still the gap of the relations between husband and wife, a certain superficiality of love not yet mentioned, the love which ... In both 'The Sun Rising' and 'The Good Morrow' Donne presents the experience of love, in a typical Metaphysical style, to engage his reader through sharing his own experiences. These poems show distinctive characteristics of Metaphysical poems which involve colloquial diction, drawing inventive imagery from unconventional sources, passionately analysing relationships and examining feelings. Donne presents the experience of love through conceits, Metaphysical wit, language techniques and imagery, in a confident tone using logical argument. The impact of Donne's use of direct and idiomatic language shows the reader how he feels about a woman and ultimately love. In 'The Sun Rising' the tone and the language Donne uses when interacting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally in the first stanza Donne uses an emphatic rhyming couplet to state that nothing, not even the 'Sun...Nor hours, days, months' can control the lovers. He seems adamant in persuading himself he is truly in love and rebels against the sun who he sees as his enemy because he is ruining his experience of love. In the next stanza Donne continues to mock and tease the sun asking in another rhetorical question 'Thy beams so reverend and strong/ Why shouldst thou think?' It seems his ego has entered a contest with the sun. He argues that 'I could eclipse and cloud them (the Sun's rays) with a wink' but he realises if he closes his eyes he 'would lose her sight' showing that he does not want to fail to notice his lover's beauty. In a direct judgment Donne compares his lover to 'th'Indias of spice and mine' which at the time were valuable parts of the world. This conceit shows his growing feelings towards his lover. Donne emphasises his love for his woman by insisting that she is better than 'those Kings' and tells the sun 'All here in one bed lay'. In the final stanza, Donne's poetic conceit is a whimsical poetic image of his feelings underlying the experience of love. A clear example of this is 'She is all states, and all princes I;/Nothing else is;' where Donne also uses trochaic and spondaic rhythm which emphasises the point phonetically.
