Early Childhood Professional Development
Partnerships with local early childhood centers have been strengthened through collaborative
conversations and professional development opportunities. Professional development sessions
centered around early childhood literacy have been hosted monthly during the school year to early
childhood teachers and teacher assistants in the public school, Head Start, and childcare settings.
Participants in the sessions earn continuing education hours and develop relationships for
collaboration and professional growth. These growth opportunities have established an early
childhood professional learning community for future learning. These efforts center around
strengthening programming to address school readiness.

When parents and family members repeat the process of saying please and thank you around the
house, they learn to know the true meaning of having manners. Children seeing the way others share
items and feelings around each other is a big eye opener to them that allows the child to feel their
own feelings. When children see that they do something wrong, the parent should always be there to
ask them questions for example on what happened?, how this made them feel?, how they think the
other person felt when they did the same thing back? Children than begin to think about their own

Early childhood development is such an intriguing aspect to research because this is really a point in
life where children act without reasoning and logic skills. The actions and thinking patterns for two
to six year olds is not wrong, it is just illogical and children these ages cannot perform while
thinking about a larger perspective other than themselves; which also makes this so fascinating. In
my research and observations, I focused on how children during this developmental stage act and
not so much about the cognition and processing a child does to make them behave in these certain
ways.The theories and ideas are steadily researched, but less rarely show examples ,that are

exploring phenomena more deeply to reiterate and validate these theories of brain functioning and

A few of the most important things are care, affection, attention, and intellectual stimulation. The
parent's role in the infant's life not only guides the psychological development, but it can also affect
the child's biological development (Belsky, 2008). If an infant does not get enough stimulation for a
long period of time, the infant may have trouble developing correct sensations, motor skills, and
perceptions. There are four main styles of parenting; authoritarian, permissive, uninvolved, and
authoritative. Each of these styles of parenting has their own characteristics which apply to how the

year–old name Kayla. She was a new student to that particular class, so I decided to see how she
would react to a new environment. I will be discussing the motor skills, communication, and social
interaction of Kayla. I will also briefly discuss the topic of the education that was being taught at the
school I visited.

The class was working on the letter 'U' that day. I noticed some of them started the letter from the
right side instead of the left. The teacher was unable to notice that as they were walking around.
Communication was another topic area that was focused on. Kayla did show signs of good
communication skills. I didn't get to witness them first hand, because she was too shy to talk to me.
She talked quite frequently to other classmates. There was even confusion which she solved about
her name. There was another student in the class named McKayla, and one of her friends had gotten
the two names mixed up. She was calling McKayla, Kayla. Kayla was very polite in correcting her
saying, "No, I'm Kayla, she's McKayla." The other student didn't seem to understand, so Kayla had
to repeat herself many times.
The way that the children interacted with the adults was interesting as well. The children were able
to talk with them as if they were on the same level as the adults were. They talked with them as if
they were friends instead of teachers, which I thought was very impressive. Usually, the students
tend to only look up to the teachers, not look equally to them. That makes it hard to get over seeing
them that way after they become adults. They sometimes tried to imitate the adults, by speaking
using voice tone. They haven't been able to master that skill yet, but they're trying to use tone in
there speaking.

After infancy, individuals move into the early childhood stage of life. During this stage, a distinct
amount of physical growth occurs. Height and weight change drastically during this time; children
grow, on average, two and a half inches in height and between five and ten pounds per year

In addition to physical growth, a significant amount of cognitive growth takes place during early

concluded that assistance from others is the only way for certain tasks to be accomplished by the

Socioemotional growth is another critical aspect of development during early childhood. As children
gain a sense of self, they begin to become more emotionally aware. Through this development,
children are able to determine which behaviors elicit certain emotions; they also gain the ability to
reflect on and manage their emotions to meet societal norms (Santrock, 2017, pg. 240).

of childhood but why is it important during early childhood? What goes on during this time frame in
a child's life that's going to dictate every aspect of the child's life for now and evermore? Is this stage
of a child's development even important to the outcome of the child's development? Well as you
would have guessed the early childhood stage – ages 3 to 6 is very crucial to a child's healthy
