HOW IT ALL BEGAN• The campaign began in 2009, when three like-minded people got together to spread awareness• Anjana Ghosh – Manager at Texas Instruments & a practicing environmentalist• Babita Saxena – Program Lead at Saahas & moved from an IT background to environmental issues• Radhica Kanniganti – Environmental Consultant with 15 years experience in various environmental fields
  3. 3. LAUNCH OF WASTE MANAGEMENTPROGRAM – JAN 26, 2009Followed by an Environment Habba in May 2009
  4. 4. 50% of households (30out of 60 households)started wet wastecomposting

  7. 7. CUT to 2012 25 households are successfully composting The initiative was re-started in October. Early adopters became street champions.

  11. 11. WHAT WE LEARNED ALONG THE WAY...Responsibility of Segregation and Managing Wet Waste MUST lie with individuals
  12. 12. WHAT WE LEARNED ALONG THE WAY... Nothing works as well as one-on-one communication Early adopters made into street champions for door to door campaigning and acting as helpline for new users
  13. 13. WHAT WE LEARNED ALONG THE WAY... People are very susceptible to Newton’s First Law of Motion Flash Cards, Maintenance support and incentives / disincentives
