Over 38 years, Action Aid has worked to increase access to equal primary education globally by supporting communities to hold governments accountable and empowering women through literacy. While primary education enrollment reached 90% in 2010, 57 million primary-school-age children and 123 million youth remained out of school in 2011. Action Aid calls for governments to increase education spending, eliminate school fees, provide cash transfers for school attendance, ensure transportation to school, and deliver sustainable, quality education systems to achieve universal primary education by 2015.
