to the material. I will simply stand near the student who is drifting and continue on instructing. If

James Danckert, PhD, a professor of cognitive neuroscience at the University of Waterloo, found
that people highly prone to boredom perform poorly on tasks that require sustained attention, and
are more likely to show increased symptoms of depression. This fact is significant in this debate
because it substantiates that boredom can ultimately put you at a greater risk of developing a mental
disorder. Nowadays, with depression stats on the rise, it is urgent that we take action to prevent
future occurrences of the life threatening disorder. After all, depression is a serious matter and
without the proper care for a depressed person, they could end up seriously hurting themselves, and
in extreme cases it can lead to death. A few people have been interviewed since then and one lady
said, ¨sometimes I get anxious when bored, mainly because I am not focused on anything, so my
mind has the freedom to over think bad thoughts and worries, which leads to panic attacks.¨ This
observation is necessary because it acknowledges that being bored doesn´t only cause depression, it
has other serious disorders such as anxiety. In most cases anxiety plays a big role in stress and
depression, which may result in a loss of appetite and frequent panic attacks. Is it really worth it to
see people you know and love endure that type of pain because it sparks their creativity, I think not.

Thinking of a question related to news was difficult because I am a journalism major and news is a
hot topic within my major. "News" is a very broad statement and can mean many different things. It
