The Theory And Application Of Theories
As we grow in the field of psychology the quality and style of our writing and thinking will change to a more theoretical approach. At the masters level
we are known as practitioner–scholars. Our primary focus will be to elaborate on theory and application of those theories. It is at his level we must
become aware of ourselves and writing skills. APA will be conducive for report writing. Writing produced by practitioner
–scholars will entail the
following guidelines.
"*Acquire information: Identify, obtain, and review the current status of knowledge about a subject through literature reviews, readings, research
analyses, etc (Capella University, 2003, p.3).
*Process information: Categorize, summarize, or operationalize information for comprehension (Capella University, 2003, p.3).
*Evaluate new strategies or approaches: Based on current knowledge, create possible new practices (Capella University, 2003, p.3).
*Apply and monitor new strategies or approaches to the discipline: Apply the new strategies or approaches to a practical situation and determine how
to measure the effects of the approach." (Capella University, 2003, p.3).
Scholar–practitioners are those who are studying at the doctoral field or level of education. Here they become more involved in research and are the
creators of the new research and theories. Unlike master learners doctoral learners are expected to publish scholar articles and presentations for others
to learn from. Much like the writing of

Collaboration Between The Illinois Community College Board...
1–Introduction Interagency collaboration is the only approach to enhance sharing of duties and responsibilities in program implementation. The study
aims to show the collaboration between the Illinois Community College Board and the Division of Humans capital development to improve adult
literacy in the State of Illinois. In 2008, the two agencies entered an agreement with the aim of improving the literacy levels in the State and the
objective of the agreement was to improve social literacy among the adults (Charles & Horwarth, 2009). The project was to be implemented under the
guardianship of the Illinois community College Board (ICCB) that has the responsibility of ensuring that the collaborating agencies work together to
achieve the common mandates. The Federal government and the State department of Illinois have closely worked together to ensure that they
eliminate the existing barriers that limit access to education. Communities can suffer significant setbacks if education is not prioritized with the
significant impact being on the lack of the necessary skills to improve the social welfare of old people (Cunningham, 2014). The collaboration
between ICCB and IDHS aims at improving the skills of working people by extending educational services to the vulnerable members of the society.
The collaboration of the agencies aims at providing adult literacy services and improving the current family support services. The collaborative effort is

Education Reflection Paper
As I have assessed various theories and ideas pertaining to education and human development, I have made a sincere effort to reflect on my own
experiences as an education professional. Our readings about student development and our analyses and discussions surrounding the challenges that
current education systems pose have not only opened my eyes to deep–rooted, systemic flaws in ideology and practice, but they have also allowed me
to seek out deeper meaning with regard to my current role as a professional of higher education. For my reflective essay I would like to highlight some
of my experiences in the field working in continuing education, or non–credit programming for adult learners, and how postmodernist ideology has
become a tool through which we seek solutions for those who have been disserviced by our current education system. Specifically, I will reflect on why
students are often underserved as a result of traditional educational models, and how continuing education programs offer viable, postmodernist
solutions to a broken system.
Postmodernism is in many ways the guiding force behind our course. A principle of thought that rejects absolute truth, I have found that
post–modernism is rooted flexibility, reflection, relativity, and revolution. Within the contexts of education, it encourages us to remain flexible in our
strategies and to stray away from linear thinking; asks us to reflect on what we believe to be true; promotes the idea that perceptions are relative

I Am My Master 's Degree Essay
Going back to get my master's degree was a tough decision for me. I always used to say I was not going to get my master's degree because there was no
reason to get it, especially seeing, as I wanted to be a flight nurse for a local medical helicopter. However, thinking about it a little more I realized I
might want to teach later on in my career. I did not want to have to go back to school later on. At this point in my life, it was a good time to go
back to school, I do not have any kids, and my schedule is not that busy. I decided to pursue the generalist track because I am not one hundred
percent sure what I want to do further on in my career. I like the idea that if I do decide later on that I want to teach I can go back and take a few
classes and get my certificate in education. Being on the generalist track keeps more options open for me later on in my career. At a master's degree
level "outcome goals... include reading the nursing and health care literature, critically appraising evidence as a basis for practice decisions, and
applying it to patient care to make care decisions with the best information available" (Kim & Hayat, 2015, p. 144). Being a master's prepared nurse
will allow me to give the patients I am taking care of better quality care

The Mission Of The Queens Library 's Adult Learning Center
Abstract
An estimated 36% of Adult New Yorker's are at level one–literacy skills about one and a half are functionally illiterate. That means that they cannot
read a prescription label, newspaper or fill out a job application. An additional 25% of Queens's New York residents do not speak English. (Queens

around the large Asian population in flushing. The services include, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) conversation groups, Basic Adult
Education (ABE) classes, and ongoing mental health and life coaching services. As a field student in The Adult Learning Center, my primary focus is to
provide mental health services to the population. Due to the large Asian community, I often find it difficult to understand their needs. Many of my
clients need numerous sessions to open up on their areas of concerns.
Mission of the agency
The mission of the Queens Library's Adult Learning Center is to provide services, resources, and life long learning opportunities to the changing
communities of Queens. In addition to the core initiatives, The Adult Learning Center offers Adult Learning Resources for students and educators of

Trauma and Adult Learning Essay
Trauma and Adult Learning
Effects of Trauma on Learning
Adults experiencing the effects of past or current trauma may display such symptoms as difficulty beginning new tasks, blame, guilt, concern for
safety, depression, inability to trust (especially those in power), fear of risk taking, disturbed sleep, eroded self–esteem/confidence, inability to
concentrate, or panic attacks (Mojab and McDonald 2001). Some people may manifest no symptoms; at the other end of the spectrum is Posttraumatic
Stress Disorder, characterized by flashbacks, avoidance, numbing of responsiveness (including substance abuse), persistent expectation of danger,
constriction (dissociation, zoning out), and memory impairment (Isserlis 2001).
It may not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A number of authors urge reframing of these discourses:
Instead of diagnosing and treating "victims," find ways to make the learning environment safer for everyone (Horsman 1997).
Recognize the role of power in limiting individual agency and choice and the ways in which institutions make personal and structural violence possible
and legitimize it (Pearce 1999).
Acknowledge the hidden learning that occurs through traumatic experiences (Horsman 2000b; Williamson 2000).
What is learned from trauma and how might educators respond? Studies of people enduring extreme situations suggest that learning is a key to survival
in adversity (Williamson 2000). Successful learning is supposed to occur when conditions are right: accessible opportunities, time, appropriate support,
safety, motivation, risks with manageable consequences (ibid.). Yet in extreme situations, learning must take place quickly and without the right
conditions. What is learned in response to trauma is influenced by prior knowledge, background, familial and social relationships, and personal
qualities and abilities (Pearce 1999; Williamson 2000). This is not to blame the victim for "inappropriate" learning or responses, but to underscore the
importance of resources and support and the recognition that learning has to be geared to meet a range of individual needs. Some of the "hidden"
learning from trauma includes the following:

Job J57 and Job K52 involve 15 acres of landscaped terrain which will require special–order sprinkler heads to meet the specifications of the project.
Using a job cost system to produce these parts, the following events occurred during December 2012. Raw materials were requisitioned from the
company's inventory on December 2 for $5,061; on December 8 for $1,059; and on December 14 for $3,459. In each instance, twothirds (2/3) of these
materials were for J57 and the rest for K52. Six time tickets were turned in for these two projects for a total amount of 18 hours of work. All the
workers were paid $16.50 per hour. The time tickets were dated December 3, December 9, and December 15. On each of those days, 6 labor hours
were spent on these jobs, two–thirds (2/3) for J57 and the rest for K52. The predetermined overhead rate is based on machine hours. The expected
machine hour use for the year is 2,112 hours, and the anticipated overhead costs are $840,576 for the year. The machine were used by workers on
projects K52 and J57 on December 3, 9, and 15. Six machine hours were used for project K52 (2 each day), and 8.5 machine hours were used for
project J57 (2.5 the first day and 3 each of the other days). Both of these special orders were completed on December 15, producing 237 sprinkler

Recreational Therapy Essay
The world is becoming a rapidly changing place in terms of population growth, cultural values, and intertwined beliefs not only in the United States, but
also on an international scale. According to Terry Robertson and Terry Long, authors of Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation, "significant changes in
culture and interdependent belief systems are happening all around us. These cultural changes are occurring worldwide," (2008, p. 270). With these
rapidly occurring global changes, Recreational Therapy as a profession needs to be changing along with this new global society. As professionals,
recreational therapists need to be able to be flexible and "meet many roles," while on the job (Long, Robertson, 2008, p. 273). This is why the future

Wider Professional Practice Essay
Task 1Wider Professional Practice We were selected to deliver a learning activity on the concept of Professionalism in the LLS.
Tasked to investigate the meaning of professionalism, using the perspective of organisations such as the Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK), the training

research the group were allocated specific tasks. We gathered the definition of professionalism from a eight separate sources such as traditional

I understand that a level of professionalism is an important part to the role of a teacher and although it is incorporated in the standards, guidelines and
policies of organizations, is often not implemented nor highlighted in practice. Certainly in respect to my currently college and I feel this acts as a
restraint on my progression and my ability to be "professional".
The importance of this subject I feel goes beyond what a teacher may know, but if they lack a clear understanding of professionalism they are missing
a broad area of the profession.
As teaching is such a demanding profession, careful consideration needs to be given to how effort is distributed so that every student gets equal
attention. As a professional it is important that consistency is maintained. When teaching students they will need to know what the learning objectives
are so I clearly explained at the beginning of the lesson and recapped at the end. These are some of the patterns of behaviour that I have adapted in my

Cyber Crime Prevention Is Not Only A Continuing Problem
Applications
Cyber Crime Prevention
Internet security is not only a continuing problem, but an increasing one. Yet, many companies do not have adequate internet security measures in
place. To help businesses thwart cyber criminals operating over the internet, several steps are recommended. First, before deciding to use the internet
for business purposes, organizations should articulate how they intend to use the internet (e.g., e–commerce; marketing web site; communication with
business partners, customers, suppliers). Once this information is articulated, the company should next assess what risks are associated with each of
the uses. Risks are the quantifiable likelihood that a financial investment will result in loss for the investor. A highrisk investment is associated with
both a higher probability of loss and a possibility of greater return on investment. Risk assessment is the process of determining the potential loss and
probability of loss of the organization's objectives.
In doing risk assessment, the organization needs to take into account the probability of various types of cyber attacks and the cost to the organization if
these attacks occur. Potential costs could result from computer downtime, loss of data, loss of reputation in the marketplace, or even law suits in reaction
to preventable theft of identity or other information. A number of risks can occur as a result of cybercrime including destruction of data, interference
with business operations,

One of the primary goals of PR is to bridge the gap between the needs of the public and needs of a company or organization. Knowing that the very

BP had shifted it focus from safety regulations that governed operations and focused on individual safety for it employees. Some say there was
pressure from above even though it was never stated overtly to cut costs even at the risk of the quality of their work. It is clear that the main goal of
the project at Macondo was to not loose any returns on the investment.
Their unwillingness to take ownership of the spill as a direct of result of negligence and human error, make them appear as though they are corrupt and
solely interested in their bottom line.
The info in the report could be a continuing PR problem for BP because of the damage that they did alongside the negligence that the report

Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant...
Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant importance to society, or a relatively new and unheard of phenomenon, public attention and
activism tends to follow similar patterns of cycling attitudes and behaviors. As Anthony Downs explains in an article written more than 30 years ago,
issues regarding the environment tend to "suddenly leap into prominence, remain there for a short time, and then gradually fade from the center of
public attention." He calls this process the "issue–attention cycle," one of the most intriguing theories regarding environmental public opinion. Even
though this article was written in the 1970's, Downs' theory contains crucial insight into what is currently happening with public opinion about the...

The next two stages highlight the decline of interest within environmental issues, resulting in an immense decline in euphoric enthusiasm. Thus, the
third stage of the issue–attention cycle is realizing the cost of significant progress. This entails the spread of a gradual realization that the cost of
solving the problem is much higher than originally expected. More specifically, it would take a great deal of money and resources, as well as
"major sacrifices by large groups in the population." This results in a realization by the public that the problem is usually a direct result from some
extremely beneficial aspect of their lives. For example, smog and air pollution can be a result from the increased use of cars, so not only would
cutting down on how often one drives a car decrease this pollution, but would also decrease in the advantages that owning a car contains. For some
people, sacrificing these advantages comes as no easy task, and most don't want to sacrifice at all.
Hence, and as Downs so succinctly puts it, the previous stage "almost imperceptibly" transforms into the fourth stage; the gradual decline of intense
public interest. Essentially, and as more and more people realize the difficulties and time

through their affordability. AACC charged the lowest tuition and fees of its four peer community colleges in fiscal year 2016. It also offers a free
tuition payment plan that allows students to spread the cost of their education throughout the semester. The college believes no student should be

The Importance Of Dual Professionalism
Avis et al (2010) state that historically, only occupations such as Doctors, Solicitors, the Clergy and Bank Managers were worthy of the title of
being called a "Professional". However they go on to say that this has changed over time to the point whereby much more diverse groups are
describing themselves within the category of being professional to the point that the term becomes meaningless. That said, they do agree that a
professional should hold a set of specific skills and knowledge that are gained through a certain amount of training and "should be used for the benefit
of society". Teachers, lecturers and trainers clearly fit within this remit. Scales (2008) lists professionalism as one of the traits of an effective teacher.
He goes on the say that professionalism is multi–faceted, citing the way teachers behave, look, the way interact with their students, how they talk and
how they prepare and plan their work all form what he believes makes a professional. In education and training, teaching alone is not merely enough.
To be seen as being knowledgeable within a specialist area is also needed to be able to teach that subject and therefore teachers in this area of
education are seen as dual professionals. The Institute for Learning (IFL) (2012) considers that Dual professionalism relates to many teachers within

The Florida Paralegal Program Act
The Florida Paralegal Program was created in 2007, in order to regulate the paralegal profession in the state of the Florida. This program offers them a
voluntary registration in this distingue organization, under the compromise to meet certain requirements such as education, certification, or work
experience criteria, and also abide by a Code of Ethics and Responsibilities, all these based on the Chapter 20 of the Rules regulating the Florida Bar.
Subsequently, these rules establish that a Florida Registered Paralegal is a paralegal who meets the requirements set out in Chapter 20 of the Rules
regulating the Florida Bar. These rules designate that a paralegal is a person with education, training or work experience, who works under the
direction of a member of The Florida Bar and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a member of The Florida Bar is
responsible. However, there are certain differences, as well as pros and cons, between paralegals that are not registered under this rule and those who

The Pyramid Model Of Curriculum Evaluation Model For...
Curriculum evaluation is necessary for nursing programs to ensure the effectiveness of the program. According to Hendricks (2015), the curriculum set
up by a program not only gives direction to the content within the program but also guides the teaching and learning processes involved in the program
implementation (p. 140). Additionally, there are many ways to evaluate curriculum. One is to look directly at how students meet the program
outcomes, while another technique is to use an established curriculum evaluation model already in use. This assignment will explore the classic model
used for evaluation called the pyramid model of evaluation for continuing education programs in relation to the University of Washington's BSN
curriculum.
Evaluation Model
According to Guin and Jax (2016), the pyramid model of evaluation for continuing education programs is based upon Donabedian's structure (1966),
process, and outcome model of evaluation as described by Hawkins and Sherwood (1999) in conjunction with the social science evaluation model
developed by Rossi and Freeman (1993). The joint effort of these researchers resulted in a highly proficient evaluation model, in addition to a
comprehensive tool that has the functionality to address the levels of the pyramid that include program design, implementation, outcomes and impact,
and a cost analysis. Because of the efficiency of the pyramid model, it has been highly recommended that this model be used by nurse educators when

My Philosophy Of Adult Education
How My Philosophy of Adult Education Changed
Before taking adult education classes, I was under the impression that learning for adults and children were the same. The difference being that correct
context was being taught to children and different content for adults.
My impression of adult education has changed immensely. First and foremost, the first lesson learned that teaching adults are a separate, intensive, and
long debated process. Portions of certain theories learned illustrated below. I have extended knowledge about Meizrow (Transformational Learning)
and Knowles (Andragogy). The six key features of Adult Learners are:(1) Self/directed learning, (2) Utilizes knowledge and life experiences, (3) Goal
oriented, (4) Relevant–oriented, (5) Highlights practicality, and (6) Encourage collaboration.
To teach nontraditional students on a collegiate level education is imperative to earn a Master's Degree, specifically in Adult Learning and
Development. The benefits are astronomical; nonetheless, not monetary. I am a firm believer that if one does what one loves, the dollar component
will follow within time. As an African–American woman, I have experienced a great deal over the past 60+ years. Furthermore, as a Christian, my
identity aligns with my race, culture and ethnic background concerning spirituality, and no it has not always been easy. However, I am most thankful
for, George T. Doran, the originator of the S.M.A.R.T. Goals. The adult population in the United

Issues Concerning Adult Students Today
This literature review investigates and outlines issues concerning adult students today. Institutions of higher education need to design and adapt their
programs to attract and engage this growing population of students to meet their needs and insure their success. This paper will defines who adult
students are, discusses and outline the specific needs they have in higher education programs and discusses the barriers they currently encounter. In
addition, there will be discussion about best practices to consider, those currently in operation and future concerns for both students and universities.
For clarification going forward, I will use the terms non–traditional student, adult student, adult learner, non–residential student and nontraditional
learner interchangeably. The growth of the adult student population in highereducation requires programs that address and support their specific needs.
In January 2012, I returned to JMU after leaving in May of 1982. I began to attend classes on campus in fall 2012. In one of my classes, my
professor continually stressed how important it was to engage in the campus community and involved in campus organizations. He really stressed
that employers like to see this quality when interviewing candidates. Of course, I began to become concerned because I was not able to do this. My
commute from Waynesboro was 35 minutes away and I did not have access to the campus except when I was there for classes. Another professor

Interviewee Expertise
M.Lang has worked with older adults in a variety of positions for 7 years. Her educational and professional experiences include working as a
physical therapy assistant, assisted living activities director, and activities specialist (M.Lang, personal communication, March 5, 2017). Depending
on either her role as director or specialist, the number of clientele served at a time ranged from 20 to 40 individuals from the young old to the oldest

That is, she connected it to her personal development that resulted from working with older adults in an assisted living setting. It was interesting that
she noted when faced with a challenging circumstances she learned to develop patience with herself. In short, rather than get anxiety about not having

Career Match
A position as an activities director is a better career match than an activities specialist or recreational therapist path. The added administrative and
supervisory components fit my employment experience and offers higher wages. Successful activities director/specialists are flexible, organized and
adept at logistical planning (M. Lang, personal communication, March 05, 2017). Those align with my work and personality characteristics. The
opportunity for advancement is limited (M. Lang, personal communication, March 05, 2017). Both the lack of upward mobility and lower pay scale are
disappointing. Nonetheless, the personal fulfillment from gained from experiencing life with the older population negates some of the drawbacks.

Recent developments in the professionalisation of teaching have emphasised the importance of values. In the light of your own experience examine the
extent to which personal values support or conflict with professional objectives.
In this paper it will be necessary to look at what professionalisation and values are, what they mean, and if they have any relevance within teaching in
todays Further Education system. To fully understand the above statement and explore it further, it is necessary to dissect the title and investigate
exactly what is professionalisation and and how its development came about. The Labour Government asked the Lifelong Learning UK to initiate new

In this respect the qualification is set out to verify the contents and matching objectives for external verification, as it is to develop a coherent, logical
and imaginative delivery of the subject matter. It fits into the ideology of instrumentalism, where, Armitage, Bryant, Dunhill, & al, (2003) tells us a
highly educated workforce with high levels of numeracy and literacy are essential to compete with aspirational, developing countries in the fields of
science and technology.
Whilst striving to incorporate new technologies into Further Education is this ideology as effective in preparing students for their work role as it is in
meeting socio–political aims of our society? To try and answer these questions it will be necessary to look at ethics, morals and values imparted whilst
teaching the curriculum in this area of Further of Education.
Philosophy is a method of reflective thinking regarding values and ideas, why and what is realistic to believe about them. It can also be defined as a
study of the meaning of life, knowledge and thought (Collins pocket dictionary, 2008).
People have their own philosophies so we cannot say that everyone has the same ideas, especially when it comes to educational philosophies. All
Philosophies are not the same but have some comparabilities. Educational philosophers merely are stating their own thoughts on education, and what

Teachers College
Reflecting on Practice: using learning journals in higher and continuing education Langer (2002) central focus is plainly stated in the introduction,
which is "how the use of journals impacted the learning process of adult non–traditional students and how this impact compared to that of traditional
students".
The purpose of this article critique is to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the Langer (2002) article. The body of the critique will develop the
five major elements, which begin with the research question/problem to include the author's purpose for writing the article. The next element is the
conceptual framework, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the use of learning journals in technology fields in higher education among non–traditional students is lacking. From these statements the
reviewer can determine that the review of literature is appropriate and critically analyzes published learning journals by the use of summaries and
comparisons.
The methodology section was explained in sufficient detail. It allowed its readers to address the research questions/problems. Langer (2002) uses two
principle modes of inquiry, which are: review of learning journals submitted by students; and interviewing selected students who completed the course.
The population was identified and selected by using three components in the process. The interview guide that was provided to two researchers, and not
the interviewees, is an indication that the results would prove reliable. The results from the interviews allowed the researchers to further assess the
significance and relative successes of the participant journals.
The results and findings were clearly explained and examined all aspects of the study. Langer (2002) gives a clear table indicating the demographic
variables of ten students who took part in the study. The nine interview questions offered a review of how the students responded toward the use of
journals in the course. Some common themes emerged from the journal readings and interview question responses. The implications of the results and
findings were

How Professionalism Is Important For Patient Care
Professionalism in nursing is a key component to have. The nurse that exhibits professionalism can go far in a career. As nurses identify strengths and
weaknesses, careers can change for the better. The strengths that I see in myself are optimism, good listener, and quick learner. When I think about
who I am as a nurse, I don't focus on tasks and to do lists. Although skills are important for patient care, there are psychosocial aspects that should be
addressed. Optimism can mean the difference in a patient's outlook. The first example is when I walked onto the unit one day; a family member
approached me and told me that it was nice to see a smiling face. That meant a lot to me. Patients and their families both experience hardships and
emotional changes when someone is sick or hurt. Leading me to the next example, being optimistic when my patients fear that they may not return to
their former state of independence and acknowledging their concerns. Many patients have these valid fears, and being the positive outlook instead of
agreeing with them sometimes helps get them to the finish line. The second strength, being a good listener, is extremely important for similar reasons.
Patients have fears that are valid, they have stress that is affecting them, and they have families that are concerned for their well–being. Sometimes all
someone needs is a listening ear to validate those feelings. There was a time when I had an emotional patient who was upset that his wife had to

The Balancing Act of Adult Life Essay
The Balancing Act of Adult Life
Life in the 21st century seems more complex than ever, as adults cope with the demands of multiple roles, the stresses of a fluid workplace, and the
pressures of child and elder care. Individuals feel compelled to update their work–related knowledge and skills and to keep up with the proliferation of
information. Family resource management is increasingly complex, with expanded choices and decisions that must be made about utilities, banking,
investments, retirement planning, etc. The Internet has simultaneously made it easier to access information, yet more complicated to apply critical
judgment to what one finds. Many of us feel, as Kegan (1994) put it, "in over our heads" as we strive to "balance" ... Show more content on

This Digest describes a selection of adult education approaches to helping individuals negotiate the curriculum of life challenges.
Beyond Life Skills
In the 1990s, work/life balance caught the attention of researchers, policymakers, and employers, resulting in the development of a range of
employment benefits, legislation, and programs aimed at helping people cope. Life management or family/career management curricula emphasize
coping through the development of skills in communication, interpersonal effectiveness, and money, time, stress, and household management (e.g.,
California Community Colleges 1998; Mathieson 1999). As Caproni (1997) notes, research, policy, and practice focused on work/life balance have
raised important issues and brought about changes that have benefitted some families. However, these approaches are incomplete in several ways.
As Niles et al. (2001) point out, the usefulness of these types of responses benefits different segments of society differently. For the working poor,
balancing work, nonwork, and life roles may be a luxury; they "are likely to be far more circumspect in how they can commit their resources to family
needs" (p. 13). Caproni (1997) suggests that the discourse of work/life balance reflects bureaucratic values such as individualism, instrumentalism, goal
focus, and

administrative responsibilities. They were also tested. CMAs play major roles in the medical field, by aiding other professionals to help patients.

One pro is, being able to help people. Some are in it just to help people and cure them of their sickness. Just to be able to help someone is an
enjoyment to them. CMAs can work anywhere, between nursing home facilities, offices, and hospitals of course. Some build relationships with their
patients and some may say that isn't a pro but it isn't good to just be rude and dull to a patient. It's better to be happy and optimistic around a
patient. You can be certified to work in any state. Instead of being tied down to one state only, the certification allows the person to work
anywhere across the country. You work regular hours. Unlike some workers in the medical profession: nurses, doctors, etc. CMAs get off at the
exact time that's on their schedule, no overtimes or anything and they know their schedule. There are plenty of jobs. The field is to grow at least
by 23% by 2022. The drawbacks of becoming a CMA is it can be very tiring. Especially working in a hospital or a nursing home, the patients could
be a little too much or extremely sick and they may need extra care and that may be tiring. Some CMAs should perform both administrative and
clinical duties which can become very frustrating and overwhelming. Another drawback is the pay rate and the amount of schooling. CMAs typically
receive lower wages than most medical professions and do about the same amount of schooling as doctors and nurses and doing much more, they
don't get much at all. Compared to RNs they make $31,000 less and compared to doctors they make $171,000 less. But most people that go into that
field probably aren't in it for the

Sample Resume : My Supervisory Meetings
My supervisory meetings this semester have been informative. I am gaining more confidence in my performance and knowledge base. After being in
classes over six years, I expected the subject matter to be more fluid in my thought process. However this was not the case, I had to brush up on some
of the theories and the behaviors associated with the theories; during my time at my practicum. Being in a more clinical environment is different and
during our weekly session my supervisor will use clinical terminology and theories, which is great I just need to mentally adapt to my new environment.
Cognitively, I want to know everything now. I want to have total recall of all the lessons over the past six years, however I know this is not realistic.
There is a learning curve and people retain information at different levels. I am glad the staff at Provident does not expect me to be fluid in all of the
theories and practices, yet they do challenge me to continue to increase my knowledge in all necessary areas so I can support my clients. Provident is a
great learning environment.

The Clinical Experience Of Intern At Multiple Sites
This is the last semester of my radiologic sciences bachelor program. Throughout the many months, there have been countless situations which
prompted me to form and execute decisions which have led to a patient's well being. Although this is a subjective statement, I genuinely believe that I
was able to impact many of my patients in a positive fashion. From experience it seemed that patients understood my intention and allowed themselves
to trust me. The clinical experience this program has entailed is outstanding in respect to the other programs. I was given the opportunity to intern at
multiple sites ranging from Santa Clarita to East LA to Santa Monica. With that being said, the demographics in these areas are so different and
allowed me to adjust to various ethnic and social groups. The following examples are situations, which occurred throughout my final fall semester.

Students with one or fewer characteristics are minimally traditional, two to three characteristics are moderately traditional, and having four or more
characteristics define highly Non–Traditional students. (Hoyt, Howell, Young & Wygant 2010)
For highly Non–Traditional learners there are several factors that can negatively impact their lives. Lack of time, including child rearing and full time
work that limits time and opportunity is often cited as a major constraint. Additionally, highly Non–Traditional learners are significantly less active in
campus activities and are less involved in the the general college experience. Hoyt, Howell, Young & Wygant's 2010 study found that Non

students were "Less likely than traditional students to participate in other academically related activities such as organized off–campus study

Student involvement on campus is viewed by higher education institutions as an important metric in predicting academic achievement. While GPA

Continuing Education As Nurses
Continuing Education as Nurses
Introduction
The definition of education is, "the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university" (Merriam–Webster, 2015).
Education in general is important. In nursing it is especially important because the medical field is constantly changing. In order to keep up with these
constant changes, continuing education becomes the number one way to learn the new changes. There are many opinions regarding why education
should or should not continue. In addition, continuing education may have barriers and benefits for some.

education increased knowledge, skills, professional growth (increase in salary), and better patient outcomes (Nalle, M., Wyatt, T., & Myers, C.,
2010). Barriers within the Arungwa study included: (a) scheduling time off from work to attend classes; (b) financial burden to pay for additional

Adult Arts Learning Essay
Adult Arts Learning
The motivations and objectives of both providers and participants in adult arts learning are diverse. Adult educators seeking to foster transformative
learning invoke the role of imagination in developing new perspectives; they view the arts as a way of engaging adults in imaginative exploration of
themselves and their relationship to the world (Dirkx 2000; Kazemek and Rigg 1997). In adult literacy education, analysis of paintings and poems can
be a means of developing visual and linguistic acuity, critical thinking, and aesthetic judgment (Dreybus 2000; Kazemek and Rigg 1997). Greene (in

107). Such therapeutic benefits of creative activity are often an important motivation for arts participation. In Bardsley and Soskice's (1998) survey,
one–third of adult arts learners sought job–related skills, but the majority were motivated by increased confidence, maintenance of physical and mental
abilities, and recovery from loss or illness. Similarly, in a music appreciation course, two–thirds of adult participants cited therapeutic motivations such
as coping with stress (Buell in Jones, McConnell, and Normie 1996).
These examples involve different providers: adult educators (Dirkx, Dreybus, Kazemek and Rigg), artists/arts educators working with adults (Apol
and Kambour, Buell), and educators using the arts in other subject areas (Alburty). In addition, a great deal of adult arts learning takes place formally
and informally in museums, parks, galleries, theatres, and similar venues, organizations that may not view their role as primarily educative
(Chadwick and Stannett 2000). With many different providers, there are multiple, sometimes competing, purposes for adult arts education. Is it to
develop the individual, to maintain the dominant culture, or to change the culture (Elias et al. 1995)? Is it to develop appreciative audiences or
creative practitioners (McDaniel and Thorn 1997)? To liberate creativity or to develop technical skills (Milton in Elias et al. 1995)? Is art the means
or a goal in itself; that is, are the arts used for

The Theory And Application Of Theories

  • 1. The Theory And Application Of Theories As we grow in the field of psychology the quality and style of our writing and thinking will change to a more theoretical approach. At the masters level we are known as practitioner–scholars. Our primary focus will be to elaborate on theory and application of those theories. It is at his level we must become aware of ourselves and writing skills. APA will be conducive for report writing. Writing produced by practitioner –scholars will entail the following guidelines. "*Acquire information: Identify, obtain, and review the current status of knowledge about a subject through literature reviews, readings, research analyses, etc (Capella University, 2003, p.3). *Process information: Categorize, summarize, or operationalize information for comprehension (Capella University, 2003, p.3). *Evaluate new strategies or approaches: Based on current knowledge, create possible new practices (Capella University, 2003, p.3). *Apply and monitor new strategies or approaches to the discipline: Apply the new strategies or approaches to a practical situation and determine how to measure the effects of the approach." (Capella University, 2003, p.3). Scholar–practitioners are those who are studying at the doctoral field or level of education. Here they become more involved in research and are the creators of the new research and theories. Unlike master learners doctoral learners are expected to publish scholar articles and presentations for others to learn from. Much like the writing of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Collaboration Between The Illinois Community College Board... 1–Introduction Interagency collaboration is the only approach to enhance sharing of duties and responsibilities in program implementation. The study aims to show the collaboration between the Illinois Community College Board and the Division of Humans capital development to improve adult literacy in the State of Illinois. In 2008, the two agencies entered an agreement with the aim of improving the literacy levels in the State and the objective of the agreement was to improve social literacy among the adults (Charles & Horwarth, 2009). The project was to be implemented under the guardianship of the Illinois community College Board (ICCB) that has the responsibility of ensuring that the collaborating agencies work together to achieve the common mandates. The Federal government and the State department of Illinois have closely worked together to ensure that they eliminate the existing barriers that limit access to education. Communities can suffer significant setbacks if education is not prioritized with the significant impact being on the lack of the necessary skills to improve the social welfare of old people (Cunningham, 2014). The collaboration between ICCB and IDHS aims at improving the skills of working people by extending educational services to the vulnerable members of the society. The collaboration of the agencies aims at providing adult literacy services and improving the current family support services. The collaborative effort is focused mainly on improving ... • 4. Education Reflection Paper As I have assessed various theories and ideas pertaining to education and human development, I have made a sincere effort to reflect on my own experiences as an education professional. Our readings about student development and our analyses and discussions surrounding the challenges that current education systems pose have not only opened my eyes to deep–rooted, systemic flaws in ideology and practice, but they have also allowed me to seek out deeper meaning with regard to my current role as a professional of higher education. For my reflective essay I would like to highlight some of my experiences in the field working in continuing education, or non–credit programming for adult learners, and how postmodernist ideology has become a tool through which we seek solutions for those who have been disserviced by our current education system. Specifically, I will reflect on why students are often underserved as a result of traditional educational models, and how continuing education programs offer viable, postmodernist solutions to a broken system. Postmodernism is in many ways the guiding force behind our course. A principle of thought that rejects absolute truth, I have found that post–modernism is rooted flexibility, reflection, relativity, and revolution. Within the contexts of education, it encourages us to remain flexible in our strategies and to stray away from linear thinking; asks us to reflect on what we believe to be true; promotes the idea that perceptions are relative ... • 5. I Am My Master 's Degree Essay Going back to get my master's degree was a tough decision for me. I always used to say I was not going to get my master's degree because there was no reason to get it, especially seeing, as I wanted to be a flight nurse for a local medical helicopter. However, thinking about it a little more I realized I might want to teach later on in my career. I did not want to have to go back to school later on. At this point in my life, it was a good time to go back to school, I do not have any kids, and my schedule is not that busy. I decided to pursue the generalist track because I am not one hundred percent sure what I want to do further on in my career. I like the idea that if I do decide later on that I want to teach I can go back and take a few classes and get my certificate in education. Being on the generalist track keeps more options open for me later on in my career. At a master's degree level "outcome goals... include reading the nursing and health care literature, critically appraising evidence as a basis for practice decisions, and applying it to patient care to make care decisions with the best information available" (Kim & Hayat, 2015, p. 144). Being a master's prepared nurse will allow me to give the patients I am taking care of better quality care Examples There are multiple examples of the contribution that nurses with master's degree have in the health care field. There are not many nurses out there that have his or her master's degree that have studied on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Trauma and Adult Learning Essay Trauma and Adult Learning Effects of Trauma on Learning Adults experiencing the effects of past or current trauma may display such symptoms as difficulty beginning new tasks, blame, guilt, concern for safety, depression, inability to trust (especially those in power), fear of risk taking, disturbed sleep, eroded self–esteem/confidence, inability to concentrate, or panic attacks (Mojab and McDonald 2001). Some people may manifest no symptoms; at the other end of the spectrum is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, characterized by flashbacks, avoidance, numbing of responsiveness (including substance abuse), persistent expectation of danger, constriction (dissociation, zoning out), and memory impairment (Isserlis 2001). It may not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A number of authors urge reframing of these discourses: Instead of diagnosing and treating "victims," find ways to make the learning environment safer for everyone (Horsman 1997). Recognize the role of power in limiting individual agency and choice and the ways in which institutions make personal and structural violence possible and legitimize it (Pearce 1999). Acknowledge the hidden learning that occurs through traumatic experiences (Horsman 2000b; Williamson 2000). What is learned from trauma and how might educators respond? Studies of people enduring extreme situations suggest that learning is a key to survival in adversity (Williamson 2000). Successful learning is supposed to occur when conditions are right: accessible opportunities, time, appropriate support, safety, motivation, risks with manageable consequences (ibid.). Yet in extreme situations, learning must take place quickly and without the right conditions. What is learned in response to trauma is influenced by prior knowledge, background, familial and social relationships, and personal qualities and abilities (Pearce 1999; Williamson 2000). This is not to blame the victim for "inappropriate" learning or responses, but to underscore the importance of resources and support and the recognition that learning has to be geared to meet a range of individual needs. Some of the "hidden" learning from trauma includes the following: All or nothing reactions such as shifting between

  • 10. Recreational Therapy Essay The world is becoming a rapidly changing place in terms of population growth, cultural values, and intertwined beliefs not only in the United States, but also on an international scale. According to Terry Robertson and Terry Long, authors of Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation, "significant changes in culture and interdependent belief systems are happening all around us. These cultural changes are occurring worldwide," (2008, p. 270). With these rapidly occurring global changes, Recreational Therapy as a profession needs to be changing along with this new global society. As professionals, recreational therapists need to be able to be flexible and "meet many roles," while on the job (Long, Robertson, 2008, p. 273). As teaching is such a demanding profession, careful consideration needs to be given to how effort is distributed so that every student gets equal attention. As a professional it is important that consistency is maintained. • 12. Cyber Crime Prevention Is Not Only A Continuing Problem Applications Cyber Crime Prevention Internet security is not only a continuing problem, but an increasing one. Yet, many companies do not have adequate internet security measures in place. To help businesses thwart cyber criminals operating over the internet, several steps are recommended. First, before deciding to use the internet for business purposes, organizations should articulate how they intend to use the internet (e.g., e–commerce; marketing web site; communication with business partners, customers, suppliers). Once this information is articulated, the company should next assess what risks are associated with each of the uses. Risks are the quantifiable likelihood that a financial investment will result in loss for the investor. A highrisk investment is associated with both a higher probability of loss and a possibility of greater return on investment. Risk assessment is the process of determining the potential loss and probability of loss of the organization's objectives. In doing risk assessment, the organization needs to take into account the probability of various types of cyber attacks and the cost to the organization if these attacks occur. Potential costs could result from computer downtime, loss of data, loss of reputation in the marketplace, or even law suits in reaction to preventable theft of identity or other information. A number of risks can occur as a result of cybercrime including destruction of data, interference with business operations, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant importance to society, or a relatively new and unheard of phenomenon, public attention and activism tends to follow similar patterns of cycling attitudes and behaviors. As Anthony Downs explains in an article written more than 30 years ago, issues regarding the environment tend to "suddenly leap into prominence, remain there for a short time, and then gradually fade from the center of public attention." He calls this process the "issue–attention cycle," one of the most intriguing theories regarding environmental public opinion. The next two stages highlight the decline of interest within environmental issues, resulting in an immense decline in euphoric enthusiasm. Thus, the third stage of the issue–attention cycle is realizing the cost of significant progress. This entails the spread of a gradual realization that the cost of solving the problem is much higher than originally expected. More specifically, it would take a great deal of money and resources, as well as "major sacrifices by large groups in the population." This results in a realization by the public that the problem is usually a direct result from some extremely beneficial aspect of their lives. For example, smog and air pollution can be a result from the increased use of cars, so not only would cutting down on how often one drives a car decrease this pollution, but would also decrease in the advantages that owning a car contains. For some people, sacrificing these advantages comes as no easy task, and most don't want to sacrifice at all. Hence, and as Downs so succinctly puts it, the previous stage "almost imperceptibly" transforms into the fourth stage; the gradual decline of intense public interest. • 17. The Importance Of Dual Professionalism Avis et al (2010) state that historically, only occupations such as Doctors, Solicitors, the Clergy and Bank Managers were worthy of the title of being called a "Professional". However they go on to say that this has changed over time to the point whereby much more diverse groups are describing themselves within the category of being professional to the point that the term becomes meaningless. That said, they do agree that a professional should hold a set of specific skills and knowledge that are gained through a certain amount of training and "should be used for the benefit of society". Teachers, lecturers and trainers clearly fit within this remit. Scales (2008) lists professionalism as one of the traits of an effective teacher. He goes on the say that professionalism is multi–faceted, citing the way teachers behave, look, the way interact with their students, how they talk and how they prepare and plan their work all form what he believes makes a professional. In education and training, teaching alone is not merely enough. To be seen as being knowledgeable within a specialist area is also needed to be able to teach that subject and therefore teachers in this area of education are seen as dual professionals. This program offers them a voluntary registration in this distingue organization, under the compromise to meet certain requirements such as education, certification, or work experience criteria, and also abide by a Code of Ethics and Responsibilities, all these based on the Chapter 20 of the Rules regulating the Florida Bar. Subsequently, these rules establish that a Florida Registered Paralegal is a paralegal who meets the requirements set out in Chapter 20 of the Rules regulating the Florida Bar. These rules designate that a paralegal is a person with education, training or work experience, who works under the direction of a member of The Florida Bar and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a member of The Florida Bar is responsible. However, there are certain differences, as well as pros and cons, between paralegals that are not registered under this rule and those who are, specifically on the following main points: work experience, education, and requirements to qualify. The first point in discussion is relative to work experience. Due to the fact that nowadays, grandfathering does not count anymore as available in order to register as a FRP, a person may no longer use experience alone as a basis for eligibility for registration: (c) Grandfathering. According to Hendricks (2015), the curriculum set up by a program not only gives direction to the content within the program but also guides the teaching and learning processes involved in the program implementation (p. 140). Additionally, there are many ways to evaluate curriculum. One is to look directly at how students meet the program outcomes, while another technique is to use an established curriculum evaluation model already in use. This assignment will explore the classic model used for evaluation called the pyramid model of evaluation for continuing education programs in relation to the University of Washington's BSN curriculum. Evaluation Model According to Guin and Jax (2016), the pyramid model of evaluation for continuing education programs is based upon Donabedian's structure (1966), process, and outcome model of evaluation as described by Hawkins and Sherwood (1999) in conjunction with the social science evaluation model developed by Rossi and Freeman (1993). The joint effort of these researchers resulted in a highly proficient evaluation model, in addition to a comprehensive tool that has the functionality to address the levels of the pyramid that include program design, implementation, outcomes and impact, and a cost analysis. • 28. How Professionalism Is Important For Patient Care Professionalism in nursing is a key component to have. The nurse that exhibits professionalism can go far in a career. As nurses identify strengths and weaknesses, careers can change for the better. The strengths that I see in myself are optimism, good listener, and quick learner. When I think about who I am as a nurse, I don't focus on tasks and to do lists. Although skills are important for patient care, there are psychosocial aspects that should be addressed. Optimism can mean the difference in a patient's outlook. The first example is when I walked onto the unit one day; a family member approached me and told me that it was nice to see a smiling face. That meant a lot to me. Patients and their families both experience hardships and emotional changes when someone is sick or hurt. Leading me to the next example, being optimistic when my patients fear that they may not return to their former state of independence and acknowledging their concerns. Many patients have these valid fears, and being the positive outlook instead of agreeing with them sometimes helps get them to the finish line. The second strength, being a good listener, is extremely important for similar reasons. Patients have fears that are valid, they have stress that is affecting them, and they have families that are concerned for their well–being. Sometimes all someone needs is a listening ear to validate those feelings. There was a time when I had an emotional patient who was upset that his wife had to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Balancing Act of Adult Life Essay The Balancing Act of Adult Life Life in the 21st century seems more complex than ever, as adults cope with the demands of multiple roles, the stresses of a fluid workplace, and the pressures of child and elder care. Individuals feel compelled to update their work–related knowledge and skills and to keep up with the proliferation of information. Family resource management is increasingly complex, with expanded choices and decisions that must be made about utilities, banking, investments, retirement planning, etc. The Internet has simultaneously made it easier to access information, yet more complicated to apply critical judgment to what one finds. Many of us feel, as Kegan (1994) put it, "in over our heads" as we strive to "balance" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This Digest describes a selection of adult education approaches to helping individuals negotiate the curriculum of life challenges. Beyond Life Skills In the 1990s, work/life balance caught the attention of researchers, policymakers, and employers, resulting in the development of a range of employment benefits, legislation, and programs aimed at helping people cope. Life management or family/career management curricula emphasize coping through the development of skills in communication, interpersonal effectiveness, and money, time, stress, and household management (e.g., California Community Colleges 1998; Mathieson 1999). As Caproni (1997) notes, research, policy, and practice focused on work/life balance have raised important issues and brought about changes that have benefitted some families. However, these approaches are incomplete in several ways. As Niles et al. (2001) point out, the usefulness of these types of responses benefits different segments of society differently. For the working poor, balancing work, nonwork, and life roles may be a luxury; they "are likely to be far more circumspect in how they can commit their resources to family needs" (p. 13). Caproni (1997) suggests that the discourse of work/life balance reflects bureaucratic values such as individualism, instrumentalism, goal focus, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Becoming A Certified Medical Assistant What is a CMA? A CMA, also known as a certified medical assistant, is an individual that has been awarded a certification credential through the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants(AAMA). CMA has been educated in a wide scope of general, clinical, and administrative responsibilities. They were also tested. CMAs play major roles in the medical field, by aiding other professionals to help patients. Being a certified medical assistant takes time, the process maybe complicated but in the end of the day it may be worth it. To become a CMA, there are certain education requirements. The CMA is the only certification that requires graduation from a postsecondary medical assisting accredited by an authorized body recognized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One pro is, being able to help people. Some are in it just to help people and cure them of their sickness. Just to be able to help someone is an enjoyment to them. CMAs can work anywhere, between nursing home facilities, offices, and hospitals of course. Some build relationships with their patients and some may say that isn't a pro but it isn't good to just be rude and dull to a patient. It's better to be happy and optimistic around a patient. You can be certified to work in any state. Instead of being tied down to one state only, the certification allows the person to work anywhere across the country. You work regular hours. Unlike some workers in the medical profession: nurses, doctors, etc. CMAs get off at the exact time that's on their schedule, no overtimes or anything and they know their schedule. There are plenty of jobs. The field is to grow at least by 23% by 2022. The drawbacks of becoming a CMA is it can be very tiring. Especially working in a hospital or a nursing home, the patients could be a little too much or extremely sick and they may need extra care and that may be tiring. Some CMAs should perform both administrative and clinical duties which can become very frustrating and overwhelming. Another drawback is the pay rate and the amount of schooling. CMAs typically receive lower wages than most medical professions and do about the same amount of schooling as doctors and nurses and doing much more, they don't get much at all. Compared to RNs they make $31,000 less and compared to doctors they make $171,000 less. But most people that go into that field probably aren't in it for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Jason Conan Case Study Essay Jason Vaughan Jason Vaughan is a 20 –year–old college sophomore. Jason presents with feelings of his thoughts not being his own or his mind being blank. He admits that he feels like a "disconnected robot" and feels detached from his own body, stating that sometimes he cannot tell if he is alive or dead. He experiences feelings of having "no self" and due to this, he is constantly afraid. This is impacting his social life and his grades. These symptoms appear to begin after a month long period of depression over a break up with his girlfriend. Jason has a history of panic attacks and feelings of detachment, which occurred around the same time that his mother was hospitalized for her own psychiatric problems. These same symptoms occurred surrounding his parents' divorce and the leaving of his father. His mother is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Phase 1 Stabilization. Following phase one of the case conceptualization model, we would need to stabilize Jason's home situation, being that mom has paranoid schizophrenia and Jason has spent much of his life taking care of her. Along with, we would need to stabilize Jason's attachment issues with his bonded network. Jason shows severe anxiety when those in his bonded network leave. • 35. Sample Resume : My Supervisory Meetings My supervisory meetings this semester have been informative. I am gaining more confidence in my performance and knowledge base. After being in classes over six years, I expected the subject matter to be more fluid in my thought process. However this was not the case, I had to brush up on some of the theories and the behaviors associated with the theories; during my time at my practicum. Being in a more clinical environment is different and during our weekly session my supervisor will use clinical terminology and theories, which is great I just need to mentally adapt to my new environment. Cognitively, I want to know everything now. I want to have total recall of all the lessons over the past six years, however I know this is not realistic. There is a learning curve and people retain information at different levels. I am glad the staff at Provident does not expect me to be fluid in all of the theories and practices, yet they do challenge me to continue to increase my knowledge in all necessary areas so I can support my clients. Provident is a great learning environment. Last week during my site visit, I was rewarding to hear my supervisor Camie, share her view of my abilities and contributions to the Provident team. These statements confirmed that I am affective in my role as a crisis worker. Several of the clients have complemented and thanked me for my support and during their time of need. • 36. Leadership At A Community College Leadership in the Support of Veterans Continuing Education in Community Colleges Leadership within higher education organizations is essential to the functioning and success of the establishment. Leadership practices can vary depending on the type of higher education organization and the issue or goal at hand. The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate the best leadership practices in support of veterans continuing their education at a community college. The review of Bolman and Deal's organizational frames and the relation to transformational leadership, exemplary leadership, and integrative leadership will determine the best leadership practices for supporting veteran education. Increase of Veteran EnrollmentHigher education organizations including community colleges, 4–year public colleges, 4–year private nonprofit colleges, and for–profit colleges have experienced an increase in veteran enrollment over the past few years. A student veteran is defined as, "any student who is a current or former member of the active duty military, the National Guard, or Reserves regardless of deployment status, combat experience, legal veteran status, or GI Bill use" (Vacchi, 2012, p. 17). Today's veterans come from a demanding environment of high levels of expectations, formal structure, and discipline. Today's veterans looking to continue education are of higher quality due to increased professional training (Vacchi, 2012). The Post–9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008 ... • 37. The Clinical Experience Of Intern At Multiple Sites This is the last semester of my radiologic sciences bachelor program. Throughout the many months, there have been countless situations which prompted me to form and execute decisions which have led to a patient's well being. Although this is a subjective statement, I genuinely believe that I was able to impact many of my patients in a positive fashion. From experience it seemed that patients understood my intention and allowed themselves to trust me. The clinical experience this program has entailed is outstanding in respect to the other programs. I was given the opportunity to intern at multiple sites ranging from Santa Clarita to East LA to Santa Monica. With that being said, the demographics in these areas are so different and allowed me to adjust to various ethnic and social groups. The following examples are situations, which occurred throughout my final fall semester. During my one week rescheduling at Olive View, I was given a requisition for a chest x–ray. Although at first glance it seemed like a normal two view chest x–ray on a middle aged woman with a possible indication for tuberculosis (TB) due to a positive quantiFERON. Upon arriving and calling the patients name out, I immediately noticed that she was pregnant. I asked her why she needed to get an x–ray and responded by letting me know that she was going to have her baby soon and the doctors wanted to make sure an active form of TB was not present. I continued with the exam and placed a lead apron shield on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Non Traditional Vs Traditional Learners Non–Traditional vs Traditional Learners– A Look at Statistics and Outcomes Historically, the quintessential college student leaves home at the age of 18 to live on a college campus for four years. These students have long been labeled as 'Traditional' college students with the learning category outliers such as Adult, Online, Part Time, and those working Full Time while earning a degree being considered Non–Traditional and a minority amongst students. However, the learning demographic across the United States is shifting, and our 'Traditional' learners have become a minority. Students with one or fewer characteristics are minimally traditional, two to three characteristics are moderately traditional, and having four or more characteristics define highly Non–Traditional students. (Hoyt, Howell, Young & Wygant 2010) For highly Non–Traditional learners there are several factors that can negatively impact their lives. Lack of time, including child rearing and full time work that limits time and opportunity is often cited as a major constraint. Additionally, highly Non–Traditional learners are significantly less active in campus activities and are less involved in the the general college experience. Hoyt, Howell, Young & Wygant's 2010 study found that Non –Traditional students were "Less likely than traditional students to participate in other academically related activities such as organized off–campus study opportunities (10% versus 17% ) and forums, seminars, galleries, and recitals related to their major (49% versus 56%)." Student involvement on campus is viewed by higher education institutions as an important metric in predicting academic achievement. While GPA does not assess specific learning outcomes, it can be used as a factor to assess academic success. A study at PurdueUniversity found that students who are involved in student organizations having statistically higher GPAs than the general student body (Hawkins 2010). • 39. Continuing Education As Nurses Continuing Education as Nurses Introduction The definition of education is, "the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university" (Merriam–Webster, 2015). Education in general is important. In nursing it is especially important because the medical field is constantly changing. In order to keep up with these constant changes, continuing education becomes the number one way to learn the new changes. There are many opinions regarding why education should or should not continue. In addition, continuing education may have barriers and benefits for some. Discussion Continuing education is important in so many ways (Arungwa, O. T., 2014). Nursing is always upgrading to newer techniques (Arungwa, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Arungwa study, several benefits included: (a) nurses receive an increase in salary; (b) nurses have the same knowledge; and (c) the medical facility operates more effectively and efficiently (Arungwa, O. In the Nalle, Wyatt, and Myers study, many nurses believed continuing education increased knowledge, skills, professional growth (increase in salary), and better patient outcomes (Nalle, M., Wyatt, T., & Myers, C., 2010). Barriers within the Arungwa study included: (a) scheduling time off from work to attend classes; (b) financial burden to pay for additional training; and (c) time management between family, work, and school (Arungwa, O. T., 2014). In the Nalle, Wyatt, and Myers study, fewer barriers were identified. These barriers included travel to and from classes and program relevance (Nalle, M., Wyatt, T., & Myers, C., ... • 40. Adult Arts Learning Essay Adult Arts Learning The motivations and objectives of both providers and participants in adult arts learning are diverse. Adult educators seeking to foster transformative learning invoke the role of imagination in developing new perspectives; they view the arts as a way of engaging adults in imaginative exploration of themselves and their relationship to the world (Dirkx 2000; Kazemek and Rigg 1997). In adult literacy education, analysis of paintings and poems can be a means of developing visual and linguistic acuity, critical thinking, and aesthetic judgment (Dreybus 2000; Kazemek and Rigg 1997). Greene (in Elias, Jones, and Normie 1995) speaks of aesthetic education as a form of critical literacy to empower people to read and name ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 107). Such therapeutic benefits of creative activity are often an important motivation for arts participation. In Bardsley and Soskice's (1998) survey, one–third of adult arts learners sought job–related skills, but the majority were motivated by increased confidence, maintenance of physical and mental abilities, and recovery from loss or illness. Similarly, in a music appreciation course, two–thirds of adult participants cited therapeutic motivations such as coping with stress (Buell in Jones, McConnell, and Normie 1996). These examples involve different providers: adult educators (Dirkx, Dreybus, Kazemek and Rigg), artists/arts educators working with adults (Apol and Kambour, Buell), and educators using the arts in other subject areas (Alburty). In addition, a great deal of adult arts learning takes place formally and informally in museums, parks, galleries, theatres, and similar venues, organizations that may not view their role as primarily educative (Chadwick and Stannett 2000). With many different providers, there are multiple, sometimes competing, purposes for adult arts education. Is it to develop the individual, to maintain the dominant culture, or to change the culture (Elias et al. 1995)? Is it to develop appreciative audiences or creative practitioners (McDaniel and Thorn 1997)? To liberate creativity or to develop technical skills (Milton in Elias et al. 1995)? Is art the means or a goal in itself; that is, are the arts used for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
