3. Reflective Practices: Library Study
Spaces in Support of Learning
Four types of view studied
1. a window view of natural greenery (Green View)
2. a window view of buildings (Built View)
3. an interior space with green plants (Plant View)
4. an interior space with no window and no plants (No View)
“… maximizing window views of natural spaces may be one of the more universal and successful
design principles to use in academic libraries. While students disagree on what type of furniture
they find comfortable, whether or not they want books or other people around them, and what
types of tables work best for them, they may just agree on the fact that views of nature are
restorative, preferred, and compatible with their study goals.”
