HRM refers to planning, organising,
directing and controlling of the
procurement, development,
compensation, integration, motivation,
maintenance and separation of human
resource to the end that individual,
organizational and social objectives are
accomplished.
HRM is.....
Proactive (Personnel and Labour Management
was reactive)
Strategic in nature
Plays dual role
Dynamic and consistently changing
Helps in development of worker’s skills, abilities.
FUNCTIONS OF HRM
Managerial Functions (planning, organising, directing and
controlling)
Human Resource Planning
 Acquisition of HR (Recruitment, Selection, Placement and
Training)
Motivating and maintaining
workers
Maintain healthy human
relations in organization
MANAGERIAL FUNCTIONS
PLANNING includes establishment of goals and standards,
developing rules and procedures.
ORGANIZING includes giving each subordinate a specific
task, establishing departments, delegating authority to
subordinates, establishing channels of authority and
communication, co-ordinating subordinates work.
DIRECTING includes motivating commanding, leading and
activating subordinates.
CONTROLLING includes setting standards and comparing it
with actual performance.

ACCQUISITION OF HR
Conducting job analyses (determining the nature of
each employee’s job)
Planning labour needs and recruiting job candidates

Communicating (interviewing,
counselling, disciplining)

CONCLUSION
Human resource gives innovative ideas,
grows consistently, has unique social,
economic and cultural background but at
the same time it is complex and
unpredictable hence it must be utilised
to its best since it is the resource that
maintains all other resources and HRM is
the way to it.....
