towards his future instead of focusing on her family (past) the way Sarah is. His facial
expressions also show an annoyance or unhappiness, which contradicts Sarah’s emotions.
6. This shot lasts for around 7 seconds, where it shows the characteristics of the family. Sarah
Turns back around from concentrating on Sarah and begins speaking to Paul, showing that he
Is the second most important aspect of her life. Jessica is oblivious to her parents and their
Relationship, showing her typical childish behaviors. Paul continues looking forward until
Spoken to by Sarah, implying his cold feelings.
7. This shot lasts for around 5 seconds and shows the first time Paul and
Sarah look at each other in the car journey. The gap the car that is in
the middle sector of them signifies the future and that car is what will
tear them apart. When there is a shot of Sarah and Paul together,
there is always something in between them, showing that there
closeness has always been interrupted or disturbed.
8. The actual crashing of the two cars is very quick and lasts for around 1 second to
emphasis how sudden and sharp it was. You can see the van clearly hitting the
family car, telling the audience that something is wrong.
9. This scene lasts for 2 seconds where the poles have smashed through the
window screen and are about to kill Paul. CGI has been used to create this
scene because the poles become slightly transparent. This scene along with the
one before occurs at a very past face, to elaborate on Pauls sudden incident and
the loss of his life.
10. The fade to black of the last scene is effective because it shows her life that she
had is ending and her new one is forming after the black fades back to light. The
crash ended this parts of Sarah life. This shot lasts for around 18 seconds, which
is the longest shot and represents the long journey Sarah will face trying to go
back to normality.
