10. Toilet Blocks: Girls School
Purpose
1. Improve attendance and retention of girls in
the school in the poorest communities
2. Reduce the spread of infection
3. Engage staff, parents, and students in
learning and practicing good personal
hygiene
11. Building of Toilet: Structure
• Each toilet block:
• 2 sifts, 5 cubicles in each toilet (doors for privacy)
• Handwashing station with 5 taps
• Size: 4.5 feet x 3.5 feet x 8 feet
• Floor and walls: ceramic tiles
• Roof: 1000L water tank
• Staff: separate toilets for M/F
• Well to supply water far away from toilets

• Total cost: $70,500 (each block: $6500)
• 10 blocks for gender specific/co-ed schools
• 10 blocks at $6500 + incidentals $5500 = $65,000 + $5500 =
$70,500
• 500-1000 girls at each school; total of 7500 girls
helped
• Health education included:
• hand washing, sanitation, menstrual management
