Group Analysis Project
In my small group for the film project analysis project I worked with four other students, Deonte, Frank, Osama, and
Stephen. The specific purpose that we came together for was to analyse the film, Oz, The Great and Powerful and identify
the different properties of communication in the film and how they were used. We held our group meetings after class three
times and once before class. Our group had no clear leader, and instead each member was self–directed, and instead our
group came to a general consensus at each meeting as to how tasks should be divided and what should be done before the
next meeting. While there were significant setbacks to our group's progress, aside from one anomaly our group worked
well together and had only one major conflict. During our first meeting, we introduced ourselves, established our channels
of communication, and determined the medium for presenting our group project. Our first meeting combined the opening
and feedforward stages of the five small group stages. We decided to communicate through both group text and email, that
way we would have multiple ways to communicate to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Osama was the information giver, distributing the movie to each group member, and clarifying bits of the movie's plot and
characters. Stephen was the energizer, as he tended to be the person who kept us focused on the project when we started to
drift of topic. I was the procedural technician for the group, creating the Google Slides document, connecting everyone to
the document so everyone could work on it, and getting the clips from the movie together for the presentation. Deonte
often played the role of recorder, as he wrote most of the group's progress reports and wrote most of the notes about who
was doing what task. We all played the role of initiator–contributor, as everyone came up with at least one idea for topics
or how to present the

South Beauty Group Case Analysis
I will use the Resources, Capability and Core Competences (RC&C) model and Value Chain Analysis (VCA) to analyse
and determine the competitive advantage and strategy competitiveness of South Beauty Group.
A firm has a competitive advantage when it implements a strategy competitors are unable to duplicate or find too costly to
imitate (Ireland, Hoskisson and Hitt, 2011, p. 4).
Strategic competitiveness is achieved when a firm successfully formulates and implements a value–creating strategy
(Ireland, Hoskisson and Hitt, 2011, p. 4).

The Bart System Of Group And Organizational Analysis
The BART System of Group and Organizational Analysis The BART System of Group was establish to edify the
practitioner observation and abilities toward facilitating groups within the followings characteristics Boundary, Authority,
Role and Task. This would enhanced the practitioner overall approach with providing the effective structure for the group
and individuals to attain success with accomplishing their objectives. According to Zachary Gabriel Green and René J.
Molenkamp p 2 (2005) Boundary is defines as the container for group work, which concentrated on time, task, and
territory provide the basis for the study of boundaries in group relations work. This would provide the practitioner with the
much needed perception with identifying and separating the various boundary that is being present in their group
structured. The therapist would beware of the territory, which identify the differences between groups about the nature of
the task that is the source of the turf war. Zachary Gabriel Green and René J. Molenkamp p 4 (2005) reported that it is
crucial that boundaries are: Clear specification of time, task and territory boundary should answer the questions: "When?"
"What?" and "Where?" Agreed upon, although a boundary may be clearly outlined, invested parties need to come to some
agreement about what the stated time, task or territory boundary is or how they interpret it. Adhered to, if boundaries are

Group Work Video Analysis
During the video, Group Work: Leading in the here and now, Part II: Transition and flight (Association for Specialists in
Group Work (n.d.), there were several interactions that caused me to take notice. Furthermore, they were indications that
the group had reached a transitionary stage. Corey, Corey, and Corey (2010) stated that, "this is a time in the group in
which both members and leaders are learning about each other's capacity and style for change," (p. 181). Multiple times
during the presentation, exchanges were demonstrated between group members that identified their willingness to confront,
become vulnerable, as well as offer signs of resistance to what was happening within the group. The first interaction that
specifically caught my attention was that between Lucy and Mary Anne, beginning around 23:55 in the video. Lucy was
opening up about a desire to connect with Mary Anne; during this interaction, Mary Anne not only expressed thankfulness
for Lucy opening up about her membership in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), but then self–disclosed that she herself was in
AA (Association for Specialists in Group Work, n.d.). This exchange was a good example the establishment of trust during
this transition stage. Corey, Corey, and Corey (2010) stated, "one member's willingness to take the risk to disclose a
concern or fear will lead to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kivlighan and Tibbits (2012) identified a good strategy in "asking the group members to engage in nonverbal exercises,"
(p. 31). This could be a powerful visual enforcer to an individual of a silent response to personal, tragic, or life changing
events. Another strategy could be engaging the group in a discussion surrounding silence itself. Yalom and Leszcz (2005)
identified this as a means to use the group's reflections on silence to engage the silent group

The Dutton Family: Group Analysis
An important part of our education and growing experience originates from our skill to analyze and reflect upon groups we
are and have been apart of. This refection can enable us to analyze our strengths and weakness of ourselves in others in the
group. By doing this, we can better ourselves in the group setting and strengthen how we work with others. The group I
will be analyzing in this paper is the Dutton Family. The Dutton Family consists of fourteen people in the immediate
family. For the purpose of the family's privacy, I will be using pseudonym for each member. Barbara and Bob are the
parents of the Dutton family; they had four children of their own, who we will refer to as, K, J, B, and T. K married M and
they had two children together, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Van Wormer and Besthorn, these behaviors are most apparent during the working stage of development. The
Dutton family shows signs of observable behavior both at the individual and group level. On the group level the Dutton's
express groupthink. Groupthink happens when one or two members of the group have a certain opinion and the rest of the
group goes along with it for the sake of avoiding an argument (Van Wormer & Besthorn, 2011). This is expressed in the
Dutton family with J and E against the rest of the family. J and E tend to enjoy making up little white lies to make it seem
their life seem more luxurious than it is. What J and E do not realize is that the rest of the family knows most of the things
they say is exaggerated or not true at all. For the sake of an argument when J or E go on a rant about something the rest of
the family will nod their head and walk away. Even though I would consider the Dutton family a closed group, which
means, there is not a high turnover rate with the members (Van Wormer & Besthorn, 2011) there are still new members
entering the family. Some of these new members may be new children who are born into the family. These children get
incorporated in and do not have much affect to the family. I have been a new member in this family and when I first
entered, there was definitely some disruption. Not only was I becoming

Small Group Communication Analysis
This group project was very interesting. It was cool to examine the group teamwork that was involved and to see the
process that was involved. I've worked with many different groups, but have never really looked at the way we operate and
communicate. From what I observed I was able to see what was effective during our project, and the specific roles each
person took control of.
When we started the small group talk amongst ourselves Lauren Hall started it all. She kind of took the lead with the
project, which was very good. In the small group conversation we had a communication network that could be considered
an All–channel. An All–channel occurs when "each member may communicate with any other member, allowing for the
greatest member participation"(DeVito, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to her being an emergent leader I believe the situational approach to leadership would show the technique she
followed. This is because she focused on "accomplishing the task at hand and ensured the satisfaction of the members"
(DeVito, 235). She demonstrated this by starting the group conversation, and leading it to the delegation stage. Once we
did this we all met in person. Once in a group she was very vocal and helped everyone improve their parts of their project
making the presentation much better, and keeping everyone very satisfied. To me this is what a great leader does. They
empower their fellow teammates to do better. "Leadership is defined in two very different ways" (DeVito, 233). The
definition that she very much followed is this, "leadership is the process of empowering others; the leader is the person
who helps others to maximize their potential and to take control of their lives" (DeVito, 233). This is exactly how she acted
throughout the project, which improved its final

High School Group Project Analysis
Meeting up with my group for the collaborative library project was a very interesting project. In high school, my English
teacher did not assign us many projects where we were in groups and everyone had to put in effort to get the project
completed. When we did has group projects, in high school, many students did not hold up there end of the bargain.
Usually I am not someone who particularly likes working in groups because I feel as though some people can slack off and
not do their part of the assignment to the best of their ability. That is the reason why I thought that was how this group
project would be. After doing this project with my group members, it changed my whole view on group assignments. I
expected for this group project to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first time I met with my group I was impressed. Everyone was so dedicated to making sure our project was well
written and thoroughly detailed. Kaiyah was the typist in our group, she was so determined to get the job done and she
knew she had a lot of weight on her shoulders to get everything put together and turned in on time. In my high school
English class, by many people were not motivated therefore I was very impressed to see someone just as dedicated to
succeeding as me. I can recall the first time our group met up Kaiyah was so straight forward and cut straight to the point.
She said, "Okay, guys so who wants what numbers of this assignment?" I replied, "Since I already started on number 7, I
would like number 7 & since number 9 interest me, I would like number 9, if that is okay with everyone." The rest of my
group, Wyman, Ashley and Aliah were fine with my choices. I realized the three of them were kind of quiet and standoff so
I said, "What numbers would you all like?" Wyman responded with, "Is it okay if I do numbers 4 and 10?" Everyone was
okay with his choices. Ashley said, "Is everyone okay with me doing numbers 1 and 3?" We all said, "Yes, that's fine."
Aliah said, "So Kaiyah, is it

Powerpoint: Group Analysis
Usually I would not want to be a part of a group for an essay project simply because I wouldn't want to put my grade in
jeopardy, however, my recent experience has made me rethink my initial opinion. Being able to work in a group has taught
me a lot and it will help me in my future by allowing me to work well with others and put a greater importance on making
my communication skills better, get work done in a timely manner, plan and compromise, as well as collaborative work. To
start off the beginning stages in preparing the group research PowerPoint we were placed into random groups, this helped
me by not giving me the opportunity to just try and pick my friends to do the project. I got to work with classmates I
wouldn't usually associate with, taking me out of my comfort zone and opening my mind to new ideas, and friendships. As
a group we then selected a topic we all wanted to do a presentation on which was "should school officials be allowed to
search student's lockers?" It was a very controversial and excellent topic to do both research and present. As a group we
organized our presentation by splitting the PowerPoint into four sections, the first being background information, the
second was stating the problem, third was the refutation, and last being a call ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

helping the presentation flow. After getting into contact with everyone and actually planning out what we were going to

Nursing Group Project Analysis
This week I would like to discuss about a past decision made for the group project on one of my nursing class. There was a
total of six people in our group for our group project. Before getting together as a group we analyzed the group project and
distributed the task to all members of the group equally. Every one of us were given sufficient time to accomplish the work
we were assigned for. We communicated through email and text messages. When everyone had finished their part we met
in a group to discuss the group project. At the beginning of the group project, unilateral decision making was involved.
One member in our group didn't want to consider other group member's perception. Her loud and dominating voice
dominated other member's idea.

Business Analysis Of Tata Group
1) Source Problem
Core problem which Tata Group faces are constant attraction and recruitment of talented individual to build up its network
of companies, which will then be capable of flourishing in the current economy. According to Tata Steel's head of human
resource Suresh Tripathy, 17% of their senior leaders are due to retire in the next few years' The challenges of increased
demand in a constrained supply situation are therefore compounded (Mandavia 2014).
Tata Group prides itself on its cultures and corporate social responsibility (CSR). New or old companies that are either
acquired or through mergers will continue to abide to the code of conduct and ensure that ethical business practices are
carried on, even after the departure of Ratan Tata.

combination of luxurious and cheap product might seem like an unlikely business model to many.
However, Tata Group a conglomerate company is full of similar contradiction (Dealbook 2007). An example would be Taj

Currently Tata Group is involve in building a cheap no–frills hotel, with rates as low as $37.00 per night for a double room

3. Difficulties and weaknesses ==============================
During the process, we also had many problems and difficulties. For example it was difficult to gather all the group
members, the whole team lacked the ability to sit down and plan together efficiently. Especially, it was very difficult to set
up the meeting time, because some people in the group did not always show up in the regular meetings. Even some of our
members I just met just once. Therefore, we needed to rearrange our meetings again and again. It can be identified as

Group Collaboration Analysis
GROUP COLLABORATION THESIS Most everyone knows how to work in a team but, not everyone comes from the
same background or holds the same set of moral and ethical standards. Each person in a group has his or her own ideas
about everything. When working in a group it seems that it is easy for a person to get lost in his or hers own task and forget
about the group aspect of the project at hand. The article "Help Your Team Agree on how they'll Collaborate" gives the
reader a solution to the group issue. The tool or advice that she gives is let the group agree on what the rules of conduct
should be to help blend the group, thus making a smoother operating group with less conflict. The rules of conduct help the

The biggest thing that was emphasized was the group working together to come up with a set of rules that governs that
group. When a team collectively comes up with its own rules and regulation there is less likely of a chance for conflict. If
there is conflict the group potentially will be able to resolve it on its own. A method that is used is the nominal method of
decision making. This means that each member comes to the meeting with his or her own set of rules and guidelines for the
group. Each person reads the set of rules aloud, then as a group they vote on the top ten rules. Those top ten then are
adopted by the group. It is important to periodically evaluate the rules, especially when and if the group back slides. This
will help the group regain structure and focus on the task. I do not think that this approach will fit every group setting. I
think that the process of setting ruled and guidelines for a group can be a lengthy process whether you do a pre–
questionnaire or not. I think that the place where this can and will be the most effective is in a workplace where the
employees are with the company for a long period of time. A place like Mc Donald's, where there

Group Self Analysis
In groups self disclosure can bring a sense of belonging among participants and it can create a sense of trust. I believe that
many people just want be understood, therefore self disclosure is a good way to gain trust and create friendships. In my
opinion self disclosure among participants can create a better group dynamic as there will be more cohesion among the
group members. I personally noticed this in my group, I find myself knowing each members name and wanting to know
more about each person in the group. I also noticed group cohesion during the AA meeting I attended. The group had a
positive dynamic as the members listened to each other and self disclosed. Although intimacy can be a positive thing
among groups, it can also become a problem as people have different personalities and beliefs about forming friendships.
The way self disclosure might intervene in group process could be by forming groups and leaving other members feeling
left out. In group discussion I noticed that several of my classmates would roll their eyes when a particular person asked ...

While the group engages in the warm up my role is to keep an open mind for prompt recognition. A decision needs to be
made based on this observation of the group whether to choose the protagonist or activate the group to choose (Durić,

would like to use for the process group. Unless there is a member who has presented a strong evocative photograph that
would create a powerful group experience I would like to allow the group to choose. However if the picture were as
powerful as I suspect I believe the members would select that one as well. If they chose something else it may be an
opportunity for me to review how I perceive the importance of an event. The group will then decide which photograph will
be the focus of the psychodrama and the member who was selected will act out their scene for the group. The member will
use pieces of furniture to set their scene and they will be the protagonist of the story (Durić, Veljković, & Tomić 2006 p.

Group Performance Analysis Essay
During our recent group presentations, we covered negotiation, building teams, working in groups, managing conflict,
effective meetings, facilitating team success, managing decisions and solving problems creatively (De Janasz, Wood,
Gottschalk, Dowd, Schneider. 2006, pg 196–314). Our team was given working in teams for success as a presentation
topic. I believe we not only clarified the topic but managed to use the content to our own benefit and produce a successful
presentation. This essay highlights our ability to work co–operatively in a team, initiate a successful presentation, and
reveal what we can do next time to improve our work techniques.

In 1996 Jim Oliver described negotiation as "negotiators jointly searching a multidimensional space and then agreeing to a
single point in the space"(Oliver, Jim R, 31 July, 1996). We were to meet at a specific place and time, with some home
research relevant to the task ahead. When it came to the meeting, one person was half an hour late, with no material, two
more members with no material, two with relevant material, and one of the members with no written material but a slide
show base created to fill with the relevant information. "Groups require open communication, mutual supportiveness,
effective conflict management, discussion of strategy, and the appropriate weighing of individual inputs into group
decisions" (Barron's Answers.com, 2008). From then on we had to re–assess and communicate who was doing what work
load, and make sure that each individual pulled their weight.
Despite the lack of input from some members the meeting did not fail. "The process of team building includes, (a)

Group Interaction Analysis Paper
Interaction patterns throughout the group were definitely different peer to peer and each participant had different ways of
interacting with one another. There were a few factors thrown in that influenced that interaction patterns. The relationship
between the members was one of the main influences. These girls seemed to truly love each other and acted as though
there were sisters, and their instructor Dominque was the mother. This was largely due to the amount of time that goes into
the group and the time they spend together. The nature of their group goals was all similar as well, thus creating a steady
bridge for the girls to progress on. The leadership within the group helped influence the interaction patterns as well. The
dancers looked up to Dominque so much, so they were willing to do anything she said. The way they interacted with her
was as though she was their role model, and truly someone they idealized. Since Dominique took on such a maternal role,
she was able to provide both stern and playful group interaction influences. The size of the group also highly effected their

each other enough to help them with their personal lives. Therefore, this investment in each other's personal lives allows
for more relaxed communication styles. The dancers were also extremely friendly to one another. Group hate did not occur

Working In A Group Analysis
Working in a group was a great way to get to know my classmates. Despite our differences, we worked together and
completed the assignment. I like working in a group, but sometimes I would rather do the assignment on my own. Group
work has its good and bad effects. Group work allows a big assignment to be completed at a faster pace than working
alone. I did not know much about zombies, but some of my other group members did. Each individual has different
viewpoints; therefore, it helped us accomplish our ten–paragraph essay in a small amount of time. My group as a whole
was assigned the role of public health. Haley was the leader, and she assigned each group member a specific task that we
were responsible for. Each of us had to write two paragraphs about a specific situation that was given to us. We worked
together and wrote the introduction and conclusion. I did not like the fact that my grade relied on other people. On the
other hand, I had some control over that by telling them how I felt about what was going on. None of my group members
was a total slacker. Although, I did not know my group members personally, so I was not sure whether or not they would
take responsibility and complete what was assigned to them. They all pulled through and we achieved our goal of

My chosen discourse is a sect of the NRA, in my hometown of Bryant, Arkansas, along with an interview of my father a
member of the NRA. The group existing is due to guns and the rights to said guns; and like in the national level of the
NRA, the members are staunch supporter of pro–gun rights.
Most of the communication of the group is done through the use of social media and face–to–face interactions. On the
social media side of things, the group is mostly based within Facebook and Instagram. On the media platforms, the group
shares ideas of what they believe is the right the way in American politics to deal with gun rights. The group has no real
face–to–face meetings, the meeting between the members are causal: usually at work or at the gun range.
Again, the NRA along with this sect of it is a pro–gun rights group in the United States. The goal of their communication is
to support their beliefs on the rights to firearms, so there is often discussion on how the other side is "wrong" based upon
the oppositions arguments. The most common conflicts within the community stem form ideas on how gun rights should
be expressed: some host more liberal opinions on the types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the group define as "berm", as an outdoor shooting range with a large mound of dirt to serve as a back drop,

Slang like this serves as indictors on who is in and who is out. Is serves as an outlet to further expanded on the groups
appreciation of the fire–arms. There is a popular criticism of the group that the NRA is bunch of alt right extremist; the

Group Process And Dynamics Analysis
During this past week in class, I was able to learn more about Group Process and Dynamics. In this reflection, I will talk
about the "Building a House" activity and what I learned about diversity issues from this exercise. I will also give details
on my observations linking them to behaviors listed in our class Observation Grid paper. On Monday, we partook in the
group activity "Building a House". Our instructions were to as a group build a house made out of Legos. Before the activity
we were each given a piece of paper with individual assignments written on them. We were told that we could not share
details about our assignments with the other group members. We were split into two groups of three, Nataliya and Ms.

Since we couldn't communicate verbally I noticed that most of the communication during the exercise consisted of visual
cues such as body language. Gestures like hand signals, body signals and eye movement were utilized by all group
members. I noticed nearly every group member nod and shake their heads many times to indicate agreements and
disagreements. This reminded me of the importance of being able to identify nonverbal communication through body
language. "People say a lot by the body language and posture (are they leaning in, slouched over and tired, agitated with
their arms crossed, etc.); their behavior movements (nervous twitched, tapping of the foot, wringing of their hands, etc.);
and the direction of their gaze and attention." (Sage,

9.0 TOWS MATRIX The TOWS (threats, opportunities, weakness, strength) matrix is a two cell by two–cell matrix that

compare to a company's existing strengths and weaknesses. All the threats, opportunities, weaknesses and strengths are
listed on the outside of the matrix and compared within each cell. The TOWS matrix is used for strategic planning and
helps marketers identify opportunities and threats and measure them against internal strengths and weaknesses. The TOWS

Group Analysis : 12 Angry Men
Group Analysis of 12 Angry Men I selected Gladding's model (2008) to evaluate 12 Angry Men with contemplation and
thought after viewing the film and reviewing the reading selections. Gladding's model goes through the five stages of
forming/orientation, transition storming/norming, performing/working, and mourning/termination. After careful
consideration of the various models presented in the text, I found that Gladding's model provided the appropriate stages
that were evidenced in the video. I also admire and respect Gladding's work, so it was a great choice to analyze further. The
movie 12 Angry Men depicts a superb model of a group who face challenges and responsibilities, while trying to reach a
goal. Throughout the film you are able to see the characters working together, forming relationships, emerging leaders,
collaboration, cohesion, and respect among the men. Overall, it reveals how groups work and what can take place in a
group setting. Crespi (2008) states, "Group counseling initiatives are one important service that can help children" (p.273).
As an aspiring school counselor it is imperative that effective group counseling skills are learned so they can be utilized to
best help students.
Forming/Orientation
The forming and orientation stage of the group is the initial step of getting the group started. Gladding (2012) outlines
seven steps that make up the forming stage of group development. First, one must develop a basis for the group.

For Human Communications group project, my group was accumulated of five members who worked together to find the

project was split into the business, history, blogging, music, and sports of Youtube. My group made thorough decisions,

discovering new topics, learning how to function within a small group, and realizing how to apply communication
techniques into real life situations.
My group was true to their opinions, work, and expectation of peers. Ethical communication was exhibited in my small
group. This means my group was focused on getting our work done while still maintain reasonable relationships among
group members. To generate ideas, my group used brainstorming, which was a way to create and organize ideas and make

Small Group Interaction Analysis
This paper is going to discuss relevant background factors, circumstances, and structures of small group interaction. First, I
will explain how a person's background can influence participation in a group and then we will look at how values can
impact a group. I will also explain how I respond to situations where I am working with people who have different values.
Next, I will explain the implications of falling into "team traps" and will use three of the ten for specific examples on why
they should be avoided. Finally, I will summarize all that we have learned today on group interactions. Let's start by
looking at how peoples background can influence participation in a group. People can come from diverse backgrounds and
have cultural differences, this is what makes everyone unique. A person's education, experience, and social circumstances
are all example of their backgrounds. These differences can cause misunderstandings or add value to small groups
depending on how the groups decides to handle differences. It is important to understand that when you are dealing with
different people you take their backgrounds in to consideration when communicating. What may seem normal to you may
be very conflicting for someone from a different culture, being patient and ask questions for clarification. If everyone in the
group feels respected, the diverse cultural background can strengthen your team because you will have a view of different

Weakness into strengths: I believe if we had organised ourselves to meet up from the beginning to share when we all would
be free to do i.e. sharing our timetables and sort out who would be free to do some work on the assignment and when they
could do it. Divide the up the workload so everyone would contribute to the assignment and that way we all have put our

RESEARCH Understanding the Experiences of Adult Learners: Content Analysis of Focus Group Data Jeff Zacharakis,
Marie Steichen, and Gabriela Diaz de Sabates, Kansas State University Dianne Glass, Kansas Board of Regents
ABSTRACT In this qualitative research study, we sought to better understand the experiences of adult learners in adult
education centers. We conducted eight focus groups with 104 adult education students from 25 adult learning centers. Five
groups were made up of English–speaking ABE students; learners in the three ESL groups spoke Spanish. We used an

Specifically, adult student persistence is effectively influenced by four pillars of support: (a) the extent to which students
are able to manage positive and negative forces, (b) support from a school 's staff for students ' sense of self–efficacy, (c)
established realistic and attainable educational goals, and (d) the opportunity to assess progress toward those established
goals (Comings, Parrella, & Soricone, 1999). Also important to adult education completion is the nature of interactions
among students and staff. In a study of 600 literacy and numeracy students in Scotland, Tett, and Maclachlan (2007) found
that learners who networked with other students and who interacted with their teachers had a more robust learning
experience and generally demonstrated more positive life changes. Kegan et al. (2001) connected learning content and
skills with complex meaning systems that are conceptually grounded in the idea that adults develop their reality and beliefs
over time through a socializing process that occurs in and outside the classroom. After studying the developmental changes
in 41 learners at three adult learning centers over period of 9–14 months, they concluded that adult learners change in a
variety of ways that allow them to consolidate and elaborate their skills, knowledge, perspectives, and beliefs. The positive
effect of adult education on learners is established in the literature. Kegan et al.

  • 2. Group Analysis Project In my small group for the film project analysis project I worked with four other students, Deonte, Frank, Osama, and Stephen. The specific purpose that we came together for was to analyse the film, Oz, The Great and Powerful and identify the different properties of communication in the film and how they were used. We held our group meetings after class three times and once before class. Our group had no clear leader, and instead each member was self–directed, and instead our group came to a general consensus at each meeting as to how tasks should be divided and what should be done before the next meeting. While there were significant setbacks to our group's progress, aside from one anomaly our group worked well together and had only one major conflict. During our first meeting, we introduced ourselves, established our channels of communication, and determined the medium for presenting our group project. Our first meeting combined the opening and feedforward stages of the five small group stages. We decided to communicate through both group text and email, that way we would have multiple ways to communicate to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bart System Of Group And Organizational Analysis The BART System of Group and Organizational Analysis The BART System of Group was establish to edify the practitioner observation and abilities toward facilitating groups within the followings characteristics Boundary, Authority, Role and Task. This would enhanced the practitioner overall approach with providing the effective structure for the group and individuals to attain success with accomplishing their objectives. According to Zachary Gabriel Green and René J. This would provide the practitioner with the much needed perception with identifying and separating the various boundary that is being present in their group structured. • 5. Group Work Video Analysis During the video, Group Work: Leading in the here and now, Part II: Transition and flight (Association for Specialists in Group Work (n.d.), there were several interactions that caused me to take notice. Furthermore, they were indications that the group had reached a transitionary stage. Corey, Corey, and Corey (2010) stated that, "this is a time in the group in which both members and leaders are learning about each other's capacity and style for change," (p. 181). Multiple times during the presentation, exchanges were demonstrated between group members that identified their willingness to confront, become vulnerable, as well as offer signs of resistance to what was happening within the group. The first interaction that specifically caught my attention was that between Lucy and Mary Anne, beginning around 23:55 in the video. Lucy was opening up about a desire to connect with Mary Anne; during this interaction, Mary Anne not only expressed thankfulness for Lucy opening up about her membership in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), but then self–disclosed that she herself was in AA (Association for Specialists in Group Work, n.d.). This exchange was a good example the establishment of trust during this transition stage. Kivlighan and Tibbits (2012) identified a good strategy in "asking the group members to engage in nonverbal exercises," (p. 31). This could be a powerful visual enforcer to an individual of a silent response to personal, tragic, or life changing events. Another strategy could be engaging the group in a discussion surrounding silence itself. • 6. The Dutton Family: Group Analysis An important part of our education and growing experience originates from our skill to analyze and reflect upon groups we are and have been apart of. This refection can enable us to analyze our strengths and weakness of ourselves in others in the group. By doing this, we can better ourselves in the group setting and strengthen how we work with others. The group I will be analyzing in this paper is the Dutton Family. The Dutton Family consists of fourteen people in the immediate family. For the purpose of the family's privacy, I will be using pseudonym for each member. Barbara and Bob are the parents of the Dutton family; they had four children of their own, who we will refer to as, K, J, B, and T. K married M and they had two children together, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Van Wormer and Besthorn, these behaviors are most apparent during the working stage of development. The Dutton family shows signs of observable behavior both at the individual and group level. On the group level the Dutton's express groupthink. Groupthink happens when one or two members of the group have a certain opinion and the rest of the group goes along with it for the sake of avoiding an argument (Van Wormer & Besthorn, 2011). This is expressed in the Dutton family with J and E against the rest of the family. J and E tend to enjoy making up little white lies to make it seem their life seem more luxurious than it is. What J and E do not realize is that the rest of the family knows most of the things they say is exaggerated or not true at all. For the sake of an argument when J or E go on a rant about something the rest of the family will nod their head and walk away. Even though I would consider the Dutton family a closed group, which means, there is not a high turnover rate with the members (Van Wormer & Besthorn, 2011) there are still new members entering the family. Some of these new members may be new children who are born into the family. These children get incorporated in and do not have much affect to the family. I have been a new member in this family and when I first entered, there was definitely some disruption. Not only was I becoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Small Group Communication Analysis This group project was very interesting. It was cool to examine the group teamwork that was involved and to see the process that was involved. I've worked with many different groups, but have never really looked at the way we operate and communicate. From what I observed I was able to see what was effective during our project, and the specific roles each person took control of. When we started the small group talk amongst ourselves Lauren Hall started it all. She kind of took the lead with the project, which was very good. In the small group conversation we had a communication network that could be considered an All–channel. Due to her being an emergent leader I believe the situational approach to leadership would show the technique she followed. This is because she focused on "accomplishing the task at hand and ensured the satisfaction of the members" (DeVito, 235). She demonstrated this by starting the group conversation, and leading it to the delegation stage. Once we did this we all met in person. Once in a group she was very vocal and helped everyone improve their parts of their project making the presentation much better, and keeping everyone very satisfied. To me this is what a great leader does. They empower their fellow teammates to do better. "Leadership is defined in two very different ways" (DeVito, 233). The definition that she very much followed is this, "leadership is the process of empowering others; the leader is the person who helps others to maximize their potential and to take control of their lives" (DeVito, 233). Wyman responded with, "Is it okay if I do numbers 4 and 10?" Everyone was okay with his choices. Ashley said, "Is everyone okay with me doing numbers 1 and 3?" We all said, "Yes, that's fine." • 9. Powerpoint: Group Analysis Usually I would not want to be a part of a group for an essay project simply because I wouldn't want to put my grade in jeopardy, however, my recent experience has made me rethink my initial opinion. Being able to work in a group has taught me a lot and it will help me in my future by allowing me to work well with others and put a greater importance on making my communication skills better, get work done in a timely manner, plan and compromise, as well as collaborative work. To start off the beginning stages in preparing the group research PowerPoint we were placed into random groups, this helped me by not giving me the opportunity to just try and pick my friends to do the project. I got to work with classmates I wouldn't usually associate with, taking me out of my comfort zone and opening my mind to new ideas, and friendships. As a group we then selected a topic we all wanted to do a presentation on which was "should school officials be allowed to search student's lockers?" It was a very controversial and excellent topic to do both research and present. Especially, it was very difficult to set up the meeting time, because some people in the group did not always show up in the regular meetings. Even some of our members I just met just once. When a team collectively comes up with its own rules and regulation there is less likely of a chance for conflict. If there is conflict the group potentially will be able to resolve it on its own. A method that is used is the nominal method of decision making. This means that each member comes to the meeting with his or her own set of rules and guidelines for the group. Each person reads the set of rules aloud, then as a group they vote on the top ten rules. Those top ten then are adopted by the group. It is important to periodically evaluate the rules, especially when and if the group back slides. This will help the group regain structure and focus on the task. I do not think that this approach will fit every group setting. I think that the process of setting ruled and guidelines for a group can be a lengthy process whether you do a pre– questionnaire or not. I think that the place where this can and will be the most effective is in a workplace where the employees are with the company for a long period of time. A place like Mc Donald's, where there ... • 14. Group Self Analysis In groups self disclosure can bring a sense of belonging among participants and it can create a sense of trust. I believe that many people just want be understood, therefore self disclosure is a good way to gain trust and create friendships. In my opinion self disclosure among participants can create a better group dynamic as there will be more cohesion among the group members. I personally noticed this in my group, I find myself knowing each members name and wanting to know more about each person in the group. I also noticed group cohesion during the AA meeting I attended. The group had a positive dynamic as the members listened to each other and self disclosed. Although intimacy can be a positive thing among groups, it can also become a problem as people have different personalities and beliefs about forming friendships. The way self disclosure might intervene in group process could be by forming groups and leaving other members feeling left out. There were a few factors thrown in that influenced that interaction patterns. The relationship between the members was one of the main influences. These girls seemed to truly love each other and acted as though there were sisters, and their instructor Dominque was the mother. This was largely due to the amount of time that goes into the group and the time they spend together. The nature of their group goals was all similar as well, thus creating a steady bridge for the girls to progress on. The leadership within the group helped influence the interaction patterns as well. The dancers looked up to Dominque so much, so they were willing to do anything she said. The way they interacted with her was as though she was their role model, and truly someone they idealized. After careful consideration of the various models presented in the text, I found that Gladding's model provided the appropriate stages that were evidenced in the video. There was time when the group had difficulties. The paper was organized and check from a group mate. Our peers were looking at the paper. The group mates were acting out various roles while doing the work. At first when the peers got to know each other, they had to interact and follow some rules. Everybody was picking their group roles and make an effort to improve on it. While Bryan was giving examples and details on how to do better. There were members fixing ... She demonstrates different kinds of ways to write our paper. When each and every one needed help or didn't understand Maria there for everyone. If Maria wasn't able to help us she would let the group know so someone can answer or figure how to do it. She has given ideas, opinions and feedback to us. For me giving opinion means asking for suggestion and ideas. Another can give some example and details on how to improve for instant on our writing and PowerPoint. The person could give idea by adding information that relates to the topic. Although, on the individual paper members had to write a weekend before each person had to present. Individual shows their roles and behaviors of the group members. At first there was a hard moment where I had to interact with my peers and wait for Maria to send our paper that was put together. Even though everybody was done Maria had to go back and put it all together in order. "Leadership influence followers, but followers also influence leaders by making demands on them, requiring them to meet members' expectations, and evaluating their performance in light of these expectations". This means that the group mates have to follow the rules and do their part, but not let someone else do it for you. Leadership is about someone who sets direction in an effort or task and ... • 36. Introduction Of Group Analysis Paper A group consists of two or more people who interact with each other and share a common purpose. A group consists of individuals who work independently and are led by a strong focused individual. A group that I participate in is Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS) Swaminarayan youth group. BAPS is a worldwide religious and civic organization within the Swaminarayan branch of Hinduism. BAPS was established as a formal organization on 5 June 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj. It was formed on the founder's doctrinal stand that Swaminarayan had promised to remain manifest in the person of Akshar, a term used to describe his chief devotee and Swaminarayan's abode. From the age of 5 to 21, I have been an active member of the BAPS Swaminarayan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our strengths include the internalization of culture which is embracing the values, norms, language, beliefs, and symbols set forth by the founders of BAPS. Another strength is the ethnic and cultural similarities that are shared among all group members. The support that is received by those in higher positions is another major strength, which also leads to high levels of satisfaction to those involved in the youth groups. However, one of our major weaknesses and challenges is the lack of diversity seen in the members. Heterogeneous groups perform better on more difficult, complex tasks. The diversity of heterogeneous groups, stimulates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Codependents Anonymous: Group Analysis Group Description Co–Dependents Anonymous, is a self–help group comprised of men and women whose common purpose is to develop healthy, loving relationships with themselves and with others. The group meetings provide individuals with a platform to offer support to one another through conversations that evoke self–discovery. Members of CoDA, reference the material from the meetings and apply it to their lives. Through that application, individuals become honest with themselves about their histories and codependent behaviors. The meeting took place on Saturday April 9th from 8:00AM–9:00AM at Crossroads for Women, located at 1632 East Flower Street in Phoenix, AZ 85016. Her quiet demeanor provided members with little formal support, aside from incorporating the various component into the group meeting such as the twelve steps, readings, and reflections. The facilitator seemed unaware of the method of assigning group roles. Due to the facilitator's lack of providing a structured group process, the group members were allowed to take control of the conversation. At times, the group would have benefited from her participation through addressing deviant behavior, the monopolizers, and redirecting the conversation when it got off topic. Additionally, the facilitator reviewed the group guidelines at the beginning of the meeting at a rapid pace that did not accommodate for inquiries. Transference was observed, based on the strong attachment the deviant member had to another participant. The deviant member's behavior indicated that she sought attention and reassurance from another participant. She positioned her body directly next to the participant, frequently rested her head on the participant's shoulder, and whispered to her throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Individual Roles: Group Communication Analysis Roles: Our individual roles were not very clear from the beginning and because of that we ended up not filming until the days before the draft was due. One of the group members insisted on using Facebook as the means of communication between our group. I tried to get the group to meet up a couple to times in person to sort out what we were going to be doing, but they were not on Facebook and we did not exchange numbers so it was hard to get hold of people. When we did meet up only half of the group members ever attended which made it complicated because not everyone wasn't there to hear what was said. Even when we were there we got nothing written down as they kept saying we cannot do anything until we hear what Gareth has to say about the Transitions. I felt our roles just become complicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the reviews were about the transitions and ideas on how we could make it better. Some were about making it more clearly in the loop itself and where we could change it to make it clearer of the loop itself. I also, after reading the reviews found that most of them talk about how the sound could have been applied to the clip, so it would better suit the clip itself. Weakness into strengths: I believe if we had organised ourselves to meet up from the beginning to share when we all would be free to do i.e. sharing our timetables and sort out who would be free to do some work on the assignment and when they could do it. Divide the up the workload so everyone would contribute to the assignment and that way we all have put our fifty cents in and no one would be left out. I feel that our most obvious weakness is our communications, if we had taken some time from the beginning and not rush it, we would have made something that we all have contributed to and proud of the ... Content Analysis of Focus Group Data RESEARCH Understanding the Experiences of Adult Learners: Content Analysis of Focus Group Data Jeff Zacharakis, Marie Steichen, and Gabriela Diaz de Sabates, Kansas State University Dianne Glass, Kansas Board of Regents ABSTRACT In this qualitative research study, we sought to better understand the experiences of adult learners in adult education centers. We conducted eight focus groups with 104 adult education students from 25 adult learning centers. Five groups were made up of English–speaking ABE students; learners in the three ESL groups spoke Spanish. We used an iterative content analysis method. Strategic Analysis of Representations Approach (SARA), to explore data gathered from the tocus groups. Six themes emerged: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically, adult student persistence is effectively influenced by four pillars of support: (a) the extent to which students are able to manage positive and negative forces, (b) support from a school 's staff for students ' sense of self–efficacy, (c) established realistic and attainable educational goals, and (d) the opportunity to assess progress toward those established goals (Comings, Parrella, & Soricone, 1999). Also important to adult education completion is the nature of interactions among students and staff. In a study of 600 literacy and numeracy students in Scotland, Tett, and Maclachlan (2007) found that learners who networked with other students and who interacted with their teachers had a more robust learning experience and generally demonstrated more positive life changes. Kegan et al. (2001) connected learning content and skills with complex meaning systems that are conceptually grounded in the idea that adults develop their reality and beliefs over time through a socializing process that occurs in and outside the classroom. After studying the developmental changes in 41 learners at three adult learning centers over period of 9–14 months, they concluded that adult learners change in a variety of ways that allow them to consolidate and elaborate their skills, knowledge, perspectives, and beliefs. The positive effect of adult education on learners is established in the literature. Kegan et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
