Gabrielle Brocheur Chanel Research Paper
Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born on August 19, 1883 in Saumur, France. She was not always the
sophisticated lady that we all know today. She grew up in a very impoverished neighborhood, and
with a very strict education. Her parents were Albert Chanel and Jeanne Eugenie. Her father was a
market trader and peddler who was never around, and her mother was a laundry woman for a
charity. Jeanne, Gabrielle's mother, died of bronchitis when Gabrielle was only 12 years old. After
her mother's death, Chanel and her sisters were put in an orphanage by her father in central France.
She was raised by nuns who taught her how to sew, and as we all know today it is a skill that would
lead to her life's success and work. She stayed in the orphanage for six years even though she did
not enjoy it, but because of that is why she became a seamstress once she was done there. After
those six years she escaped from the orphanage, and joined a boarding house for Catholic girls.

She was the only fashion designer to ever be on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential
people of the 20th century. In the 1920s Gabrielle launched her first perfume ever called Chanel No.
5 which became a huge success, and still is. Also in the 1920s, Gabrielle started a new piece of
clothing, which will change women's outfits completely. It was the little black dress. Before she
introduced this to everyone, black dresses were associated with funerals and deaths, not
eveningwear. This was soon the end of corsets and thick clothing women had to wear out. Then in
1925 she created a more legendary piece the Chanel suit with a well–fitted skirt and jacket. It was
called the "little boy look." During the 50s, her spring collection received the Fashion Oscar at the
1957 Fashion Awards in Dallas. She was announced the most influential designer of the 20th

With five franchises open on Rou Cambon she only remains to keep one up and going. The only
open store was Number 31, there her perfumes and different accessories continued to be boom

her perfume as her main source of income. (http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/197624)There are
theories that Chanel was a Nazi spy during war, but none have been proven to be correct. Chanel
returned in 1954 with a fashion comeback. In Europe, her comeback at first would be regarded as an
complete lack of success. Fashion critics were less than impressed with her new line, which only
repeated her purpose of a casual chic. But in the United States, Americans couldn't buy her suits fast
enough. Both Europe and the critics soon abandoned to Chanel's success in America. Even though
she became a failure in Europe's eyes she continued to work positive up to the end.(

Imagine a classy restaurant with the light sounds of hushed voices and clinking of silverware, the
smell of gourmet food, and the sight of women in classy black dresses and men in their tuxedos.
Now imagine the same atmosphere except with everyone wearing bright colors like pinks, yellows,
and blues. No black to be seen! That's what it might look like if it weren't for Coco Chanel, a very
famous fashion designer. One of the things Chanel is well known for is her little black dress. In the
1920s Coco Chanel changed the way the world thought about the color black when she introduced
the "little black dress" to her collections, originally the color black was worn by people in mourning

Personal Statement : Empty Closet
Empty Closet
"Real style is never right or wrong it's a matter of being yourself on purpose," G. Bruce Boyer. A
person may wake up and try one set of clothing then another, and they are just not feeling it. By the
time they notice, everything they own is on the bed or on the floor instead of hanging neatly in their
closet. Clothing is connected to the person's personality, mood, and memory, and it conveys in its
own language, a message to the wearer and their audience. Hence, some days it is easier to select
clothes and other occasions it appears as if there is nothing to wear in the closet. However, through
purpose, thought, and choice, clothes gain entree into the person's closet.
Sometimes the purchase of a garment is to convey a specific message, so it is chosen with purpose.
For instance, women choosing to clothe for an early evening cocktail date may want to express
simplicity, sexiness, and sophistication. First, the color needs to be appropriate. For example, black
is generally related with simple elegance; whereas, a pastel color is more festive and would entice
an early day outing. Then, textile needs to be evaluated. For instance, a heavy wool will not have the
same sexy feel as of a silk and will not solicit the mood for romance. If a touch of flirtatious
personality is added, the person may end up with a replica of Coco Chanel's "...little black dress,
which seemed, at first glance, artless, rustic grab and impersonal. This decisive step brought the

Madeleine Vionnet Research Paper
Madeleine Vionnet was born in France in 1876 and was apprenticed to a dressmaker while she was a
child (Arnold, 2015). At the age of eleven, Mme. Madeline realized the gift of her hands and
became a seamstress. In the early 1900s, she began her career in a couture house in Paris, Callot
Soeurs (Arnold, 2015). There she worked for six years and skilled herself in draping fabrics directly
on live models. She was so dedicated to her passion that she worked twelve hours a day and often
during lunch hours. This dedication earned her the title of "architect" among other dressmakers.
Later, she worked with Jacques Doucet from 1907 to 1912 (Arnold, 2015). Mr. Doucet was a
fashion designer and art collector. Here, Vionnet's first collection was considered a revolution in the
house and for its time. Unfortunately, an ageing Doucet could not keep up with the taste of women
after World War I. Vionnet never learned sketching, but developed skills in dressmaking in haute
couture before opening her own establishment in 1912 (Kirke, 1998).
During 1920, the war had passed and people were ready to push aside the old trends. When the
prohibition law passed, jazz music and new dances became all the rage. This influenced Madeleine
for making conventional garments for stage performers. Madeleine created garments that were

inventions: garments cut on the bias which gave more flexibility to the garments, gowns with unique
silhouettes, unusual draping skills. Her major clients were stage artists, due to which her garments
were showcased well to catch the attention (Kirke, 1998). With her perfect skills and the balance

KARL LAGERFELD
"The Little Black Jacket" a classic revisited
It's hailed the most famous piece of fashion associated with the House of Chanel name, (next to the
'little black dress' of course) the 'cardigan (or tweed) jacket' Coco Chanel invented in the mid 1950's.
It had become Coco Chanel's trademark item. With the launch of Karl Lagerfeld's book, which was
not only accompanied by an exposition of the pictures shot by the designer, but also by a video on
the making of the little black jacket in 2012. Karl Lagerfeld had revisited this classic garment, and
once again modernize Chanel's most recognizable piece.
Though one must first look back at what lead to Karl Lagerfeld becoming part of the House of
Chanel, and bringing it into the modern age.
THE DESIGNER PROFILE
The German born French designer Karl Otto Lagerfeldt is one of the most acclaimed fashion
designers in the world today. Lagerfeld known for his bold designs and constant reinvention, and is
being hailed by Vogue US as the "unparalleled interpreter of the mood of the moment". Karl
Lagerfeld in addition to his own fashion–label has been a major creative force behind such well–
known brands/labels like Tommy Hilfiger, CHLOE', FENDI, and most importantly Chanel.

Why Is Coco Chanel Rebel?
A rebel is a person who resists against the political system, authority, control or tradition and
challenges them. Coco Chanel, was a famous French fashion designer and the founder of
international fashion brand Chanel. Coco Chanel was a rebel of the 20th century as she did not
follow the fashion norms during the time in her designs. From the 1920s to the 1950s, women used
to wear corseted silhouettes that were fancy and excessive. However, Coco Chanel designed
clothing for women that were more practical, comfortable and elegant. She daringly rebelled against
many fashion restrictions for women during her time. The reason why Coco Chanel stood out
among many fashion designers is that she designed clothes for women that represented clothing
reserved for men in the twenties to the fifties. Even though her designs and style had dated at least
fifty years back, they are still accepted by the modern society, proving that her works are timeless.
Most importantly, she inspires women to dress for themselves.
Coco Chanel's real name was Gabrielle Bonhuer Chanel. She was born on 19th August 1883 in
Saumur, France. During her early life, Chanel's mother passed away when she was very young. Her

The designs of the Chanel suit took inspiration from men's suit because women of that time were
not known to wear suits. In contrast with the movement restricting clothing back then for women,
the Chanel suit had provided them with movement and minimalism, creating elegance. The jacket
consists of straight cuts making it fluid to the body's movement and was designed to free women
from the cinched–in silhouettes of the fifties, which limits their body movements and also their
freedom to express themselves (Chanel, 2013). It symbolizes an independent woman who is looking

The successes are such as the opening of the first shop she had in Rue Cambon and it was due to her
determination in creating hats. The critical thinking that Chanel had led her to have the idea to add
in clothing lines into her shop to expand her range of business. Her genuine thoughts were shown in
the jersey dress that amazed a lot of people who asked her where she got it and she has a great drive
in doing what she loves as she made one jersey dress for those who asked her. Besides that, the
thinking element that Chanel possessed was one of the key to her successes as she did not bother
about the opinions of others in general regarding all the affairs that she had with different men and
brought in connections that she thinks would make her business work instead of worrying what

Little Black Sambo: The Stereotypes Of African Americans
Despite the emancipation of slavery at the end of the Civil War, white Americans still viewed and
treated Africans as inhuman. This is best shown through African American caricatures, Minstrel
shows, and the cultural phenomenon of Blackface. Mid nineteen hundreds cartoon images depicted
Africans Americans much differently than they actually appeared in real life. Taken for granted
these incorrect and misrepresentative images worked their way into the mainstream of American
life. Of all ethnic caricatures in America, the ones showing African Americans have been the most
enduring. These images helped shape the most gut level feeling about black members of society.
Because these images were so prevalent in society, Africans began to live under ... Show more

Little Black Sambo was a cartoon show about a black child in the deep south. It stirred a great deal
of controversy due to its extreme racial stereotyping. This stereotyping is best shown through the
depiction of Sambo's mother as the conventional black "mammy". Another scene from the show that
was stereotypical and degrading, was when the tiger literally scared the black skin color out of
Sambo. Closely related to these African caricatures are minstrel shows. Minstrel shows emerged
from the pre industrial European traditions of masking and carnival, but began in America in 1830's
where white men would dress up as southern plantation slaves. These white men would not only
dressed up like slaves, but would imitate their music and dance styles. These shows combined the
savage parody of black Americans with the fondness for their culture forms. Minstrel shows were
popular until the 1950's when Africans Americans began to obtain more political power. The people
involved in minstrel shows would often love slave music and culture, but not the actual slaves
themselves. One interesting but terrible phenomenon that arose as a result of these minstrel shows,
was the idea of

Summary Of The Book 'Little Black Sambo'
1. In many cultures the Phoenix is a symbol for rebirth or renewal after death. In most stories, the
bird purposefully engulfs itself in flames and is reborn from its ashes.
2. The first reference to the Phoenix is Captain Beatty. He shows up in a Phoenix car at Montag's
house hoping to get him to believe in burning books again. The author portrays him as the phoenix
to show that he was trying to give Montag a chance to change or "be reborn". Later in the novel,
Granger says that they are like the Phoenix, crumbling to ashes, but having the chance to renew
themselves. The author is showing that now that the city is destroyed, they can rebuild their lives
but this time they can learn from their mistakes, just like we should learn from our mistakes in real
life.
1. Little Black Sambo is a book written in 1899 by Helen Bannerman. It was a story of a South
Indian boy who had to give his clothes to 4 tigers who ended up melting into butter at the end of the
story. The book became very popular and eventually got pirated. The pirated copies received lots of
hate due to their racist illustrations and the way they stereotyped African Americans as uneducated.
Eventually all forms of the book were taken off of shelves due to all the controversy. Uncle Tom's
Cabin is an anti–slavery novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It touched on how America wasn't
giving everyone equality and freedom, which are basic human rights. Both books show how slavery

Flappers didn't feel the weight around their neck as they didn't have their husband or any man tell
them what to do or what to wear. They wanted to live a free and youthful life and they accomplished
that. One of the reasons for that were for their clothes.
What the Flappers also contributed to women society were that they created fashion statements that
were out of the norm. Women's fashion, before the Roaring 20s, was known to be conservative and
very gracious. The women wanted to change that and to embody what they stand for. According to
St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture, "The flapper ideal, along with the look, first became
popular with chic young moderns, then with a larger body of American women. The flapper was
remarkable identifiable" (Hatton). Not only did the Flappers wanted to exemplify the fun–youthful
and daring self, they wanted to show they didn't want to look like a conservative and a housewife
and add a little boyish flair. They flatten their chest and cut their hair short but more into a bob.
They also wore a lot more makeup adding the red lipstick and black eyeliner. To go with the flat
chest, shorter hair, and the makeup they wore shorter skirts and tight bands around their heads and
the dresses also made for them to move freely around. "...they danced–not in the old style, but in the

"Shelby ! Take Jessie and get outside now !" I hurried to the kitchen and grabbed my baby sister and
ran outside. "What happened Shelby ?" "I don't know Taylor." Jessie was terrified and crying, but
she was so young that she did not understand what could possibly be going on. After a few minutes
of waiting, we heard tires squeal and we saw our Dad's truck coming around the corner. My Dad

He did not even acknowledge us standing there waiting patiently and eager to know what was

Coco Chanel
Fashion designer. Born on August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France. With her trademark suits and little
black dresses, Coco Chanel created timeless designs that are still popular today. She herself became
a much revered style icon known for her simple yet sophisticated outfits paired with great
accessories, such as several strands of pearls. As Chanel once said,"luxury must be comfortable,
otherwise it is not luxury."
Her early years, however, were anything but glamorous. After her mother's death, Chanel was put in

While not officially charged, Chanel suffered in the court of public opinion. Some still viewed her
relationship with a Nazi officer as a betrayal of her country. Chanel left Paris, spending some years
in Switzerland in a sort of exile. She also lived at her country house in Roquebrune for a time.
At the age of 70, Chanel made a triumphant return to the fashion world. She first received scathing
reviews from critics, but her feminine and easy–fitting designs soon won over shoppers around the
world.
In 1969, Chanel's fascinating life story became the basis for the Broadway musical Coco starring
Katharine Hepburn as the legendary designer. Alan Jay Lerner wrote the book and lyrics for the
show's song while Andre Prévin composed the music. Cecil Beaton handled the set and costume
design for the production. The show received seven Tony Award nominations, and Beaton won for
Best Costume Design and René Auberjonois for Best Featured Actor.
Coco Chanel died on January 10, 1971, at her apartment in the Hotel Ritz. She never married,
having once said "I never wanted to weigh more heavily on a man than a bird." Hundreds crowded
together at the Church of the Madeleine to bid farewell to the fashion icon. In tribute, many of the
mourners wore Chanel suits.

Elena Reston: A Short Story
Elena Reston was laying in the arms of Mark Niles, one of the cities wealthiest businessmen. His
field of choice was car trading. Apparently, he also liked to trade in his women – at least for the
night. "Shit, my wife will be home any second. You better get out of here," he said suddenly, pulling
the blankets off her almost–naked body. For all of his business–minded ingenuity, she was surprised
that he somehow didn't know that even though all escorts had to say they had a "strictly no
touching" policy, it usually meant just the opposite. Beads of sweat had formed on his forehead as
he stammered out, "would you like to, um, lay in bed... lay in bed, that is, with me for a while?"

She idly wondered what she had done wrong this time. Unlike the other girls, she hardly depended
on her newfound profession, which didn't exactly make her the best employee. She refused to escort
men for the most random and unexpected reasons, from the man's fashion choices to place of
residence to presence of excess facial hair. She was late to her dates all the time. If the man was a
particular asshole, she just left the date and forfeited her pay. Just a few months ago, she'd been a
junior in college. She majored in English, minored in art, and spent her free time going to fraternity
parties, like every other 21–year–old. And then, there was the car crash that fantastically killed both
of her parents. Two birds with one stone. She had been in the middle of an English final, and by the

Research Paper On How Coco Chaneel Changed Fashion
Have you ever taken a step back and looked at how fashion has revolutionised over the years? Well,
this article is taking a step back in time all the way to the early 1900's to look at the way that Coco
Chanel changed fashion. Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by
throwing stereotypes of how women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends
that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still on sale even after her
death in 1971.
One of her original designs in the early 1920's was the little black dress. The dress was an update for
the modern women, known for both its silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times, the dark
tone was commonly associated with mourning. However this was soon changed after, with Coco
being the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black
was simple elegance. One of her competitors, Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street,
asking her, "What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle?" The quick–witted designer responded,
"For you, dear Monsieur." Touché!
One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers were
only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914, many women who worked in manual roles in harder
conditions began to wear trousers to the workplace for safety and comfort. Coco Chanel also loved
wearing trousers herself, often borrowing her boyfriend's suits, she then began

Negative Effects Of Gender Socialization
Gender Socialization is often very impactful on adult outcomes. Gender norms often place
restrictions of the way individuals think, act and express themselves, as people are often afraid of
punishment or ostracization from society if they stray from the expected gender norms. While I
believe that gender socialization can frequently be very restricting to individuals, and
psychologically and emotionally harmful, I think people often end up conforming to gender norms
in fear of what will happen if they defect. As discussed in class, it is often evident that gender norms
are enforced before birth. Recently there has a surge in popularity in "gender reveal parties", in
which the expecting couple reveals their child's gender. These gender reveal parties are becoming
increasingly creative, from cutting open a cake, exploding a cannon, and other increasingly
outlandish activities that reveal the gender. These gender reveals often use colors to indicate the
gender of the baby, with pink representing a girl, and blue representing a boy. Additionally, my
cousin is announcing the gender of her baby on Facebook tonight, in which my Aunt will either be
wearing a bib saying "Little Black Bib" (a play on little black dress that symbolizes a girl) or
"perfect gentleman" to represent a boy. This shows that society has not only already decided that
girls must like pink and boys must like blue, but has already decided how my cousin's unborn baby
must act. The "Little Black Bib" suggests that

A Spring Morning at Grandma’s Antique Shop Essay
The sun catches on the many colors of transparent glass: Forest green, cobalt blue, peachy pink, and
amber yellow forms a surrealistic prism around the room. In the swirling colors, Victorian dolls
dance. This is the image that comes to mind when I think of a spring morning at Grandma's Antique
Shop.
Gravel crunches as I walk toward the old gray house. Above the steps is a baby blue sign that reads
"Todd's Treasures," a hoe and rake form a pyramid over the sign. The steps are wooden and give
gently with each quick step I take. The sleigh bells on the door jingles as I open it calling, "Hello
Grandma." My voice echoes and Grandma says hello from wherever she is, usually the desk.

In the window behind the desk are things that are not for sell; these are the most treasured of "Todd's
Treasures," and any family members who visit are sure to study each item. A poster that once hung
in the Post Office, where Grandma's Grandmother worked, proclaims "Davis Auction Bulletin." In a
small frame is a dirty red, white, and blue ribbon on it is "July 4,1912 Veteran 1861–65." This
ribbon was awarded to my Great Great Great Grandfather, a confederate veteran on the fourth of
July in 1912. A yellowed newspaper clipping states "Game Warden wounded in gun battle." A black
and white photograph of an old black couple is sitting in the windowsill, and a large black and white
picture of a family reunion sits hangs on the wall.
Near the desk are two chairs, where you can sit and talk to Grandma. Down the middle of the room
are three wash stands. On the back one, is a gold Candelabra with angels who hold crystals. Jewelry,
pocket watches, arrowheads, old coins, confederate bills, and a tin top are in the display case. On
top of it is a tin toy train. It is painted yellow, green, blue and red. Behind the display case, are
boards where necklaces and earrings hang.
Most of the shelves in this room contain glass items. There are milk white pieces throughout the

"Do you like it Paris?" Caitlin held the Gucci dress up for her to see. "Oh my God!" Paris squealed.
She admired the beauty in front of her. The Gucci dress that is. It was one of a kind. It was a stretch
jersey with an open back. Her little black dress. When she tried it on, it was form–fitting but it looks
sexy on her. It also shows a lot of cleavage. She admired her 5'3 frame in the seven foot mirror. She
smiles at herself, noting the light shining its way back through her eyes. "Girl, you are wearing that
dress." Caitlin whistled and her girls laughs. Caitlin watched as the girls held Paris' long auburn hair
that is now down her back high up in the air. Paris spins as she laughs happily with them while
Caitlin stood back admiring her. What a sexy doll. I want her. Too bad she doesn't know what she

when he saw how gorgeous Paris looks in the dress. He was taken aback. "Isn't she stunning?"
Caitlin asks him, who goes by the name, Draco. "Yes. She. Does." Draco awed, and laughs with the
girls. "Boy, close your damn mouth! You're drooling." Caitlin joked. Draco wipes the nonexistent

Conformity Quotes In Fahrenheit 451
" Don't step on the toes of the dog lovers, the cat lovers, doctors, lawyers, merchants, chiefs,
Mormons, Baptist, Unitarians, second–generation Chinese, Swedes, Germans, Texans ,Brooklynites,
Irishmen, people from Oregon, or Mexico." (Bradbury 57). This quote, a statement from Captain
Beatty, is an example of how conformity is a big ideology in the society. His statement proves that
they believe conforming removes conflict. Take away opinions, likes, dislikes, and everyone is
happy. Tell the people how they should feel and what they should believe. Montag's society's idea of
a utopia is that compliance is honing. " Mildred backed away as if she were suddenly confronted by
a pack of mice that had come out of the floor." (Bradbury 66). In this quote, Bradbury describes
Mildred's reaction to being presented books by Montag. An example of complying to the law. She
reacts in fear to illegal objects. She is unsure of why she's apprehensive of the books, other than that
because the society says she should be. If a book, tradition, or common practice, anything human,
doesn't conform to the societal standards, then it is offensive, therefore in need of being burned, or
forgotten. They erase books to erase the past. Erase tradition. An example to support the previous
statement is when Beatty says, " Colored people don't like Little Black Sambo. Burn it. White

The Making of Coco Chanel
Coco Chanel was born on the 19th of August in 1883 in Sammur, France her parents giving her the
name Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. When Coco was around 12 her mother passed away this provoked
her father to abandoned her and her 5 siblings, she and her sisters were sent to a convent for
abandoned girls and her brothers were sent to work. The time she spent in the convent was a dark
time therefor she didn't like to speak of but she reflected in some of her pieces as she used the tones
and shapes from walking along the corridor. Once she finally became of age and left the convent she
became a seamstress beginning her life into fashion but she also became a cabaret singer where she
was given the name Coco.
A few years later in 1909 she opened a millinery shop at 160 Boulevard Malesherbes where she
designed and sold hats. These hats were simple yet elegant, a change from the heavily decorated
hats of the time. During this time she supposedly began her affair with Boy Chapel. He introduced
her to the world of wealth, paying for the first shops she opened and greatly influencing her fashion
sense. They're affair was on and off but lasted till his death in 1919, the mourning of his death
helped influence Chanel No.5. The sorrow she felt from his death inspired her designing.
Her fashion was like no other, she used blacks and greys which was only thought of to wear to
occasions like funerals but she turned this stereotype around and created the little black dress. Over

Fahrenheit 451 : How And Why Does Clarisse Change Monttag?
Study Questions for Fahrenheit 451 1. How and why does Clarisse change Montag? Clarisse is
different from everyone else in that society; she acts slowly, she thinks, her uncle was even arrested
once for being a pedestrian. After talking to Montag, she thought he was different –– he was
peculiar. " You're not like the others. I've seen a few; I know. When I talk, you look at me. When I
said something about the moon, you looked at the moon, last night. The others would never do that.
The others would walk off and leave me talking. Or threaten me" (21). Clarisse helped Montag to
start thinking and examining his life. The first time they met, Clarisse asked him if he was happy.
Though Montag's answer was "of course", it gets him to think. He then realized that he was never
happy, but "He wore his happiness like a mask and the girl had run off across the lawn with the
mask and there was no way of going to knock on her door and ask for it back" (9). Another time, she
questions his family, that he was not in love with anyone. Montag was upset, but soon he realized
that that might be true –– neither Mildred (his wife) or himself remembered where they first met.
Clarisse also asked why he chose the job and that she heard fireman puts out fire instead of starting
them a long time ago. They all made Montag think and question about his life and the world, which
led up to all his following actions to save the society. Without Clarisse, he might just be a fireman
forever, and probably

Jungle Stereotypes In Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop,
Surprisingly, I personally thought the idea of observing these cartoons with a third eye was highly
effective. Usually, people tend to look past exactly what the cartoons are portraying. I noticed
throughout all of the cartoons they were humanizing racism. I saw a diversity in cultures from all of
the cartoons. Frequently, I observed how all the cultures were represented and the way they were
dressed. Additionally, one thing that stood out from the rest was physical appearance. Between the
two cartoons Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop, All this & Rabbit Stew, and Jungle Jitters the African
Americans all had the same physical features such as facial appearance. The setting of Little Black
Sambo and Jungle Jitters were very similar plus they both had that jungle stereotype. Jungle Jitters
initially illustrated how African Americans are jungle eating people. Social justice was highly
embellished in Jungle Jitters explaining the lifestyle of all social classes. Overall, I noticed the
variety of relationships all the cartoons were depicting from what the class learned during the start

Censorship And The World Of Fahrenheit 451
Sherlyn Reyes
Period 5 In Fahrenheit 451, owning and reading books is illegal. Members of society focus only on
entertainment and speeding through life. If books are found, they are burned and their owner is
arrested. If the owner refuses to abandon the books, as is the case with the Old Woman, he or she
often dies, burning along with the books. People with interests outside of technology and
entertainment are viewed as strange, and possible threats. In this novel, censorship plays an
enormous role and is noted to be the most important theme through the actions of the people and the
reason why the banned books in the first place.
Firstly, in the futuristic world of Fahrenheit 451, the theme of censorship is shown through the
actions of the characters in the book. People of this society do not think independently nor do they
have meaningful conversations and they don't even have an interest in reading books. They most
likely fear knowledge because they are probably afraid of knowing more about the war going on,
which leads them to depend on the government to think for them. Subsequently, they need
something to occupy their time. This is where television and mass media comes in. Instead of
expanding their knowledge, they watch an extreme amount of television on wall–size sets and listen
to sea–shells which are little radios attached to their ears and people drive extremely fast due to lack
of appreciation for nature; they never really take the time to look around and admire

Gabrielle Bonheur Coco Chanel
Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel is one of the greatest fashion inventors of all time. In her early
life as a child, she was put in an orphanage by her father after her mother's death. Her father worked
as a peddler and didn't make enough money to take care of her. He barely made enough money to
keep himself alive. The nuns of her orphanage taught her how to sew which became a vital know–
how for her career later on. To earn money to live on her own, she started a singing career at local
clubs in Vichy and Moulins where her nickname "Coco" began. At about 20 years of age, Chanel
began a relationship with Etienne Balsan who offered her money to help her start her career. She left
Etienne for a wealthier friend of his, Arthur "Boy" Chapel. Both of these men were a key ingredient
in Coco's first fashion experiment. When she opened her first shop on Paris's Rue Cambon in 1910,
she sold hats. When she began making clothes, she put a store in Deauville and one in Biarritz. Her
first successful piece of work was a dress she made from an old jersey. In 1925, she made the suit
with a tight fitted skirt and a collarless jacket, popular. Her designs were made with things from a

How Did Coco Chanel Contribute To Fashion
Coco Chanel is the most influential fashion designer of all time. Over fifty years, Coco Chanel was
considered to be the "Grande Mademoiselle" of the fashion and society scene. She was the fashion
icon of the 20th century, she revolutionised the way women wore clothes. After losing her mom and
being put in a foster care, she was taught how to sew. Once she got older she became a singer and
opened her first clothing store. Her career began in 1909, when she first gained projection in France
during World War I when she developed the "working costume" for women who took over the jobs
of fighting men. Chanel's styles began with simple jersey dresses and black fabric. By the mid
1920's, she had made her "Chanel look" consisting of a wool jersey suit with a straight, collarless
jacket. when Coco first introduced her style to women during and ... Show more content on

She never let anyone get in the way of her dreams, raised by a bunch of nuns, she learned all the
things she needed for when she got older. She put everything she learned into her fashion. Doing
this has helped her change the way women have dressed. If it wasn't for Coco there's no telling what
women would be wearing right now. She has inspired other people to be themselves and also has
helped other men and women who want to design, inspiring them to design what they like and
enjoy. Showing people that the last thing they need to worry about is what other people think of
them. She makes sure to put of that she wants to inspire her bold ways.
In my opinion i think coco has impacted on how women dress today. Managing to get rid of corsets
and tight dresses, she did a great job of what she did. Not even to mention she has her own cosmetic
line, along with all the clothing brands and perfumes she's has. Her cosmetic line is very popular for
the bold red lipstick, as people who reference that to it. Coco chanel is most definitely a influence of

Abstract
The report discusses the contribution of Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent in fashion and the
changing role of women. Chanel began in 1920's introducing her tweed suits, which brought a new
meaning to women's image and helped them get recognition in the society. She was against the
concept of constricting women in corsets and crinolines and believed in women empowerment.
Another designer with a slightly mutual ideology came about in the fashion scene around 1960's. He
believed in providing practical fashion to the women, but also emphasized on drama at the same
time. With his le smoking dress he transformed and enhanced the role of women in society to a
greater extent. He provided never seen before fashion and communicated the functionality through
designs. The report further discusses the strategies implemented by both the brands that devolved a
market to operate successfully. Thus this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore she introduced black and white in normal day to day wear, providing a wide variety

millinery shop in Paris and boutiques in both Deauville and Biarritz. Promotional tactics used by
Chanel included display of collections through ramp shows. Women of the upper class were
influenced by the outfits and their accessories exhibited on the cover pages of the Vogue (Fig 6).
Chanel should build profitable relationship with right customers by delivering satisfaction. The
pricing strategy used is Premium Pricing. Furthermore, the promotional methods include fashion
shows, events,TV,magazines (Elle,Vogue), exhibition etc.. Therefore public relations for Chanel are
carried out in the form of special events, blogs and forum, website and media relations. In order to

  • 1. Gabrielle Brocheur Chanel Research Paper Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born on August 19, 1883 in Saumur, France. She was not always the sophisticated lady that we all know today. She grew up in a very impoverished neighborhood, and with a very strict education. Her parents were Albert Chanel and Jeanne Eugenie. Her father was a market trader and peddler who was never around, and her mother was a laundry woman for a charity. Jeanne, Gabrielle's mother, died of bronchitis when Gabrielle was only 12 years old. After her mother's death, Chanel and her sisters were put in an orphanage by her father in central France. She was raised by nuns who taught her how to sew, and as we all know today it is a skill that would lead to her life's success and work. She stayed in the orphanage for six years even though she did not enjoy it, but because of that is why she became a seamstress once she was done there. Also in the 1920s, Gabrielle started a new piece of clothing, which will change women's outfits completely. It was the little black dress. Before she introduced this to everyone, black dresses were associated with funerals and deaths, not eveningwear. This was soon the end of corsets and thick clothing women had to wear out. Then in 1925 she created a more legendary piece the Chanel suit with a well–fitted skirt and jacket. It was called the "little boy look." Now imagine the same atmosphere except with everyone wearing bright colors like pinks, yellows, and blues. No black to be seen! That's what it might look like if it weren't for Coco Chanel, a very famous fashion designer. One of the things Chanel is well known for is her little black dress. A person may wake up and try one set of clothing then another, and they are just not feeling it. By the time they notice, everything they own is on the bed or on the floor instead of hanging neatly in their closet. Clothing is connected to the person's personality, mood, and memory, and it conveys in its own language, a message to the wearer and their audience. Hence, some days it is easier to select clothes and other occasions it appears as if there is nothing to wear in the closet. However, through purpose, thought, and choice, clothes gain entree into the person's closet. Sometimes the purchase of a garment is to convey a specific message, so it is chosen with purpose. For instance, women choosing to clothe for an early evening cocktail date may want to express simplicity, sexiness, and sophistication. First, the color needs to be appropriate. For example, black is generally related with simple elegance; whereas, a pastel color is more festive and would entice an early day outing. Then, textile needs to be evaluated. Madeline realized the gift of her hands and became a seamstress. In the early 1900s, she began her career in a couture house in Paris, Callot Soeurs (Arnold, 2015). There she worked for six years and skilled herself in draping fabrics directly on live models. She was so dedicated to her passion that she worked twelve hours a day and often during lunch hours. This dedication earned her the title of "architect" among other dressmakers. Later, she worked with Jacques Doucet from 1907 to 1912 (Arnold, 2015). Mr. Doucet was a fashion designer and art collector. Here, Vionnet's first collection was considered a revolution in the house and for its time. Unfortunately, an ageing Doucet could not keep up with the taste of women after World War I. Vionnet never learned sketching, but developed skills in dressmaking in haute couture before opening her own establishment in 1912 (Kirke, 1998). • 7. Why Is Coco Chanel Rebel? A rebel is a person who resists against the political system, authority, control or tradition and challenges them. Coco Chanel, was a famous French fashion designer and the founder of international fashion brand Chanel. Coco Chanel was a rebel of the 20th century as she did not follow the fashion norms during the time in her designs. From the 1920s to the 1950s, women used to wear corseted silhouettes that were fancy and excessive. However, Coco Chanel designed clothing for women that were more practical, comfortable and elegant. She daringly rebelled against many fashion restrictions for women during her time. The reason why Coco Chanel stood out among many fashion designers is that she designed clothes for women that represented clothing reserved for men in the twenties to the fifties. Even though her designs and style had dated at least fifty years back, they are still accepted by the modern society, proving that her works are timeless. Most importantly, she inspires women to dress for themselves. Coco Chanel's real name was Gabrielle Bonhuer Chanel. She was born on 19th August 1883 in Saumur, France. During her early life, Chanel's mother passed away when she was very young. Her father who is a peddler, left her and her sisters in an orphanage where she ... • 9. Little Black Sambo: The Stereotypes Of African Americans Despite the emancipation of slavery at the end of the Civil War, white Americans still viewed and treated Africans as inhuman. This is best shown through African American caricatures, Minstrel shows, and the cultural phenomenon of Blackface. Mid nineteen hundreds cartoon images depicted Africans Americans much differently than they actually appeared in real life. Taken for granted these incorrect and misrepresentative images worked their way into the mainstream of American life. Little Black Sambo was a cartoon show about a black child in the deep south. It stirred a great deal of controversy due to its extreme racial stereotyping. This stereotyping is best shown through the depiction of Sambo's mother as the conventional black "mammy". Another scene from the show that was stereotypical and degrading, was when the tiger literally scared the black skin color out of Sambo. Closely related to these African caricatures are minstrel shows. Minstrel shows emerged from the pre industrial European traditions of masking and carnival, but began in America in 1830's where white men would dress up as southern plantation slaves. These white men would not only dressed up like slaves, but would imitate their music and dance styles. These shows combined the savage parody of black Americans with the fondness for their culture forms. Minstrel shows were popular until the 1950's when Africans Americans began to obtain more political power. The people involved in minstrel shows would often love slave music and culture, but not the actual slaves themselves. • 10. Summary Of The Book 'Little Black Sambo' 1. In many cultures the Phoenix is a symbol for rebirth or renewal after death. In most stories, the bird purposefully engulfs itself in flames and is reborn from its ashes. 2. The first reference to the Phoenix is Captain Beatty. He shows up in a Phoenix car at Montag's house hoping to get him to believe in burning books again. The author portrays him as the phoenix to show that he was trying to give Montag a chance to change or "be reborn". Later in the novel, Granger says that they are like the Phoenix, crumbling to ashes, but having the chance to renew themselves. The author is showing that now that the city is destroyed, they can rebuild their lives but this time they can learn from their mistakes, just like we should learn from our mistakes in real life. 1. Little Black Sambo is a book written in 1899 by Helen Bannerman. It was a story of a South Indian boy who had to give his clothes to 4 tigers who ended up melting into butter at the end of the story. The book became very popular and eventually got pirated. The pirated copies received lots of hate due to their racist illustrations and the way they stereotyped African Americans as uneducated. Eventually all forms of the book were taken off of shelves due to all the controversy. Uncle Tom's Cabin is an anti–slavery novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. • 18. Research Paper On How Coco Chaneel Changed Fashion Have you ever taken a step back and looked at how fashion has revolutionised over the years? Well, this article is taking a step back in time all the way to the early 1900's to look at the way that Coco Chanel changed fashion. Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of how women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still on sale even after her death in 1971. One of her original designs in the early 1920's was the little black dress. The dress was an update for the modern women, known for both its silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times, the dark tone was commonly associated with mourning. However this was soon changed after, with Coco being the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black was simple elegance. One of her competitors, Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street, asking her, "What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle?" The quick–witted designer responded, "For you, dear Monsieur." Touché! One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers were only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914, many women who worked in manual roles in harder conditions began to wear trousers to the workplace for safety and comfort. Coco Chanel also loved wearing trousers herself, often borrowing her boyfriend's suits, she then began ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Negative Effects Of Gender Socialization Gender Socialization is often very impactful on adult outcomes. Gender norms often place restrictions of the way individuals think, act and express themselves, as people are often afraid of punishment or ostracization from society if they stray from the expected gender norms. While I believe that gender socialization can frequently be very restricting to individuals, and psychologically and emotionally harmful, I think people often end up conforming to gender norms in fear of what will happen if they defect. As discussed in class, it is often evident that gender norms are enforced before birth. Recently there has a surge in popularity in "gender reveal parties", in which the expecting couple reveals their child's gender. These gender reveal parties are becoming increasingly creative, from cutting open a cake, exploding a cannon, and other increasingly outlandish activities that reveal the gender. These gender reveals often use colors to indicate the gender of the baby, with pink representing a girl, and blue representing a boy. Additionally, my cousin is announcing the gender of her baby on Facebook tonight, in which my Aunt will either be wearing a bib saying "Little Black Bib" (a play on little black dress that symbolizes a girl) or "perfect gentleman" to represent a boy. (Bradbury 57). This quote, a statement from Captain Beatty, is an example of how conformity is a big ideology in the society. His statement proves that they believe conforming removes conflict. Take away opinions, likes, dislikes, and everyone is happy. Tell the people how they should feel and what they should believe. Montag's society's idea of a utopia is that compliance is honing. " Mildred backed away as if she were suddenly confronted by a pack of mice that had come out of the floor." (Bradbury 66). In this quote, Bradbury describes Mildred's reaction to being presented books by Montag. An example of complying to the law. She reacts in fear to illegal objects. She is unsure of why she's apprehensive of the books, other than that because the society says she should be. Clarisse is different from everyone else in that society; she acts slowly, she thinks, her uncle was even arrested once for being a pedestrian. After talking to Montag, she thought he was different –– he was peculiar. " You're not like the others. I've seen a few; I know. When I talk, you look at me. When I said something about the moon, you looked at the moon, last night. The others would never do that. The others would walk off and leave me talking. Or threaten me" (21). Clarisse helped Montag to start thinking and examining his life. The first time they met, Clarisse asked him if he was happy. Though Montag's answer was "of course", it gets him to think. He then realized that he was never happy, but "He wore his happiness like a mask and the girl had run off across the lawn with the mask and there was no way of going to knock on her door and ask for it back" (9). Another time, she questions his family, that he was not in love with anyone. Montag was upset, but soon he realized that that might be true –– neither Mildred (his wife) or himself remembered where they first met. Clarisse also asked why he chose the job and that she heard fireman puts out fire instead of starting them a long time ago. They all made Montag think and question about his life and the world, which led up to all his following actions to save the society. • 26. Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion Have you ever taken a step back and looked How Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion By Sienna Hollis at how fashion has revolutionised over the years? Well, this article is taking a step back in time all the way to the early 1900's to look at the way that Coco Chanel changed fashion. Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of how women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still on sale even after her death in 1971. One of her original designs in the early 1920's was the little black dress. The dress was an update for the modern women, known for both its striking silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times the dark tone was commonly associated mourning. However this was soon changed after, with Coco being the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black was simple elegance. Rival couturier Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street, mockingly asking her, "What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle?" The quick–witted designer responded, "For you, dear Monsieur." Touché! One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers were only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914, many women who took worked in manual roles began to wear trousers in the workplace. Coco Chanel loved wearing trousers herself, often borrowing her boyfriend's suits, ...
