Case Study Of The Michigan Model Of HRM
3.2 Michigan Model of HRM
In contrast to the Harvard Model, the Michigan model (Figure 4) is considered as a 'hard' HRM model. Those models consider human resources as
economic factors for achieving the strategy of the organization (Henderson, 2008). Figure 4: Michigan Model
Performance displays the centre of this approach. All human resource sections influence the outcome in the performance of the workers and thus the
company.
At first, the selection of proper staff is important for the company. Centerscape is looking for young, motivated, and skilled people. The selection
process starts with evaluating which applicant would be best to perform the task. After that, a small number is invited for an interview, to look who
would fit in the company culture (von Einem, 2016). This is the basis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To ensure good operational performance on the long term, it is vital to attract skilled young workers, and to retain the established workers in the
company. To achieve these goals, specific policies related to these issues are recommended.
4.1 Dual Education System
One approach to attract young workers is the implementation of the dual education system in the company. The systems combine both theory and
practical experience. Students in this system attend universities specially designed for dual education. In their actual semester break the students work
in the partner company.
The system has enjoyed great popularity in recent years in Germany, as Figure 5 indicates.
Figure 5: Number of dual education students and companies (Wegweiser–duales–studium.de, n.d.)
The blue graph shows the number of students studying in the dual education system in Germany. Between mid–2012 and mid–2014, the number
increased significantly from about 65,000 students to 95,000. The green graph illustrates the number of companies offering a dual education
programme. Despite a short decrease in 2011, this number rose steadily,

Social Work Theory: The Definition Of Social Group Work
Definition: 1 Social group work has been defined by Harleigh B. Trecker as: "A process and a method through which individual groups in social
agency settings are helped by a worker to relate themselves to other people and to experience growth to opportunities in accordance with their
needs and capacities." Definition: 2 Social group work has been defined by Marjorie Murphy as: "Social group work is a method of social work that
helps persons to enhance their social functioning through purposeful group experiences and to cope more effectively with their personal, group or
community problems." Explanation Social group as a method of social work is organized in a "group." The first thing to be done by the worker is
planned group formation. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social group work tries to enrich community life by helping individual learn how to become participating members of the group. Thus, members
of the group learn how to work as a team Social group work situation provides opportunities through various programmes for the development of
positive qualities and habits in the members which create social cohesiveness in the group. Social group work seeks to provide opportunities for
planned group experiences that are needed by all people. As a specialized technique, group work seeks to provide a group setting in place of group
institutions like joint family and neighborhood etc. Social Group worker has to provide a kind of experience in a controlled environment which
enables the members to participate freely and effectively in varying group situations. Social group provides a training ground for democratic life. The
group members imbibe democratic values and get experience in conducting themselves in a democratic manner. Philosophy underlying Social Group

Work Experience Essay
Work Experience Essay
It all began when my tutor informed us that we have to find our work placements for the two weeks of work experience. When we were first told
about work experience I thought to my self 'great no school for two weeks.' I was looking forward to looking around places and trying to figure out
what and where I wanted to do my work experience. I personally enjoy things associated with Sports and helping people so I wanted to do
something along these lines. I started looking around areas of work I could look into, and then phoned up some of these places to see if they did
work experience in advance. I found that many of the places I wanted to do work experience at did have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I kept telling my self that I had plenty of time left and that I would find a placement eventually (which in my case was almost never!). I was now
back at school and did nothing over the half term. My parents were nagging me to get my placement sorted, as well as my tutor and Mrs. Lunan! I
decided I had to do something now or I will have nothing to do; I got out the yellow pages out and the first pages I looked at were the Sports
Centres. The first place I thought of ringing was Harrow Leisure Centre; they said I could get a placement and told me that I had to have a C.V. I
did as they had asked but when I got there; I was waiting for about thirty minutes before the head of work experience saw me. He then told me that
I would not be able to do work experience there as all the placements had been taken. At this point, I was annoyed as they had not told me this over
the phone and made me wait for thirty minutes doing nothing, also I had to walk there in such short notice (I hate walking)! This was the second
time I had been messed about like this and I was furious! At this point, I did not want to go to work experience as I got the impression that people
were rude and inconsiderate and I did not want to work with people like this.
It was now June and I still felt the same, but it was becoming clear to me that I had to find a placement in the next few days

Co Operative Education And Traditional Education
"Unlike other subjects that may require work and effort to understand, people tend to think they know what education is. It is familiar topic: a word
in the daily use. It's all around us. We go to college or university to get educated. We entrust our children to schools in the belief that they will become
knowledgeable and skilled" (Wood 11). Evidently, education is a long–term process, which almost all people must experience in life. So that, the
choices associated with major, future job or kind of programs are controversial problems in general public, especially the issue of whether or not
Co–operative (Co–op) education is better than traditional (Non Co–op) programs. Additionally, it is also implied that Co–operative program is known as

As evidence of this, according to Learning to Learn, "College teachers have expressed frustration about attendance in class, uncompleted reading
assignments, and student focus on grades rather than learning. Student surveys indicate that courses are not interesting, that students fail to recognize
the value of what they are learning, and that many faculty rely too heavily on lectures for transmitting information" (Wirth and Perkins 2–3). Moreover,
the rote learning style, which is the memorization of information based on repetition, though might not understand basic content deeply or may
immediately forget the facts they have learned after the test is the harmful disease that so many students are struggling. Contrary to conventional
education programs, it is implied that "Evidently, enabling students to experience the more theoretical world of school in tandem with the more
practical world of work has the potential of increasing some of the positive outcomes of education" (Jeela 2). In other words, due to integrated learning
model of co–op educational structure, the student can review knowledge what is gained in class more effective than studying what were taken note. It
is true that beside classroom lectures, Co–op program allows students to work at the company to get credit. This is mandatory if the learners choose the
curriculum with Co–op course, the period will be interspersed with durations of student lectures. Moreover,

Work Group Analysis
At the point when creating successful work groups, it is pivotal to know the contrast between a minor gathering and a genuine group. A work gathering
exists basically for the individuals from the gathering to share data and help one another perform their own particular individual obligations. Work
gatherings are about individual commitments rather than collaboration, and hence the gathering is no more prominent than every individual's close to
home information. A work group, in any case, working through coordination and collaboration, can make a positive vitality more prominent than
aggregate of its part's individual inputs. In compelling work groups, efficiency is extraordinarily expanded by a general positive cooperative energy,
individual and shared responsibility, and the aggregate execution of people with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amid the Forming phase of group advancement, colleagues are normally eager to be a piece of the group and avid about the work ahead. Individuals
regularly have high positive desires for the group experience. In the meantime, they might likewise feel some nervousness, thinking about how they
will fit into the group and if their execution will have what it takes. Practices saw amid the Forming stage may incorporate loads of inquiries from
colleagues, reflecting both their fervor about the new group and the instability or uneasiness they may be feeling about their place on the group. Group
Tasks: The main work for the group amid the Forming stage is to make a group with clear structure, objectives, course and parts so individuals start to
manufacture trust. A decent introduction/commencement procedure can help to ground the individuals as far as the group's central goal and
objectives, and can set up group assumptions about both the group's item and, all the more imperatively, the group's procedure. Amid the Forming
stage, a great part of the group's vitality is centered on characterizing the group so errand achievement may be generally

Group Postcard
Group Postcard
Journal 8
As a student of Santa Ana College, I have recently had the privilege to work on a group project. Our group assignment based upon making a
postcard for our school. In which this highlights the importance of one of the facilities that Santa Ana College provides for the students. As a group,
we choose the Child Care Center as our topic for the postcard. As I worked in the group, I felt respected and valued. I felt that my group volunteered
and contributed equally. We decided that two of us would work on the postcard and the other two would work on theessay. As we continued with our
project, we divided the work evenly in order to finish on time. My group and I had different tasks in order, and we worked together afterschool ... Show

We were a little hesitant at first when we choose the topic because my group members were unfamiliar with the Child Care Center. I encouraged
my group members about the topic due to my experience in the center and my background in human development. As a student at Santa Ana
College, I was thrilled at the idea of representing the Child Care Center. Also as a human development major, I felt honored to fulfill this
assignment. I felt that the topic of our postcard was a proper way to express the school. Our group ventured out to look for pictures of the child
center and take photos of the facility. As my group and I went out to take pictures of the Child Care Center for our postcard, we later sat together to
see what pictures we had and to see what we can use for the postcard. Later on, we then sat together at Starbucks to discuss our progress. We then
started editing our postcard and made some changes on the essay. We decide to go with the idea of having the Child Care Center pictures paired up
with the quote written in the iconic Disney font to show how it was child friendly. As our group continued our project we helped, each other grow
individually and influenced our experiences as students. Personally, I had a great experience in my group and

Support Group Observation
Community–based support group observation and reaction paper is the first assignment that has to be completed for my class Social Work with
Groups. In this assignment, I will discuss how I located the support group of my choice, what I was able to observe in the group session, and feelings
or reactions I had during the process. This assignment will give a look into my first experience attending a real–life support group session from the
other side of the coin. On this occasion, I was able to experience it from the point of view of a group member and not a facilitator which is definitely
a shift in roles. Being able to go through this experience gives me the opportunity to experience a session firsthand and be able to observe and identify...

While I waited this elderly man came and put up a sign on the doorknob that read Al–Anon. At that moment, I found myself surprised that they
publically pointed out what type of group was held in that timeframe. Finally, I went in to the auditorium which was this big space and right in the
middle of this space was a circle. Within the circle there were cardboards that read different quotes or saying used a lot in the program and a small
basket. As I got closer to where the people were standing it felt strange because nobody acknowledged my presence. I was looking kind of lost
when I was received by the facilitator who was a friendly woman who called upon the group so that she could introduce me and gave me the
opportunity to explain that I was a MSW student from Simmons College and my purpose of being with them that night. The facilitator explained to
them that I was aware of the importance of confidentiality and that I was not allowed to take pictures or takes notes. She then led me to a seat in the
circle and gave me a book so that I could participate in the reading of the 12 steps and traditions with the rest of the group. I felt intimidated and
uneasy while I was introducing myself to the group because I did not get a reaction from them, thus, I was unsure if they were uncomfortable with my
presence. Although, I perceived that they seemed to be a quiet group because when I initially entered no one was mingling,

Collaborative Group Experience
Introduction Groups and teamwork are an essential aspect of everyday life. It is suggested that "groups have the potential to outperform individuals"
(Mottola & Utkus, 2009). There are several facets that impact teamwork, including communication, and cooperation. Conflicts and challenges are also
important aspects that can occur in teamwork. It is imperative to understand effective models, and actions that can be taken to establish successful
work. Experiential learning will be used to analyze a group experience that the author found to be meaningful. Additionally, team dynamic concepts
and theories will aid in analyzing the experience.
Concrete Experience A meaningful group experience revolved around a group presentation for evolutionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The various challenges and conflicts impacted all the members of the group, and resulted in a subpar presentation. As the presentation was a
significant portion of our final grade, it was imperative for the author as well as several other members to take initiative and salvage the presentation
before it was a complete disaster. The author behaved in this manner to ensure the requirements of the assignment were met, and the presentation was
delivered in order to avoid failure for the assignment. The other members of the group that also took initiative to complete the assignment were
motivated to achieve these goals as well. The individuals that lacked participation were fueled by conflict and determined to create a negative
experience because of refusal for agreement. The individuals removed themselves from the group and choose to work on aspects of the presentation
alone. This impacted the group negatively because there was lack of communication, and opinions from everyone involved. Joan Bunashe and Lindsay
Broder suggest that "conflict isolates individuals and can have an impact on creativity and productivity" (Bunashe & Broder, 2015). The actions of the
individuals who refused to participate in the group obstructed the presentation flow, and resulted in a negative experience for

proposal experience was not that bad. However, I did have to be patient and wait for other members to submit their work. I also had to be patient
and see when we could meet because some of my group members did not show up for group meetings. I also felt like the majority of my group
was not participating and getting work done. My group was some what organized because we had a checklist of the materials we had to submit and

System Theory
Systems Theory Paper
Groups of people working together can either be a positive or a negative experience; the deciding factor is the way people in the group are able to
collaborate. There are many different ways people work together and many different personalities that either conflict or mesh. People that are
extremely different and have strong opinions that are conflicting with other persons of the group will most likely not function to produce positive
results. Through reading "In Mixed Company" by J.Dan Rothwell and personal experience I have determined that key factors to groups working as
systems are group synergy and the ripple effect.
In Mixed Company (2007) defines synergy as " a group genius, that when group performance form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

personal experience, have seemed to have synergy that produced a result of a positive ripple effect. When there is negative synergy the people
working together just weren't meant to work together and can always try joining a new group. All ripple effects create a large produce, but it always
starts with a small part of a system. Learning what synergy is and what the ripple effect is helped me to understand why my groups worked together
so well and produced immense success. Through my readings and experience I believe synergy is potent to being successful in a group and a ripple

Survivors Of Childhood Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse victims often have a difficult time overcoming the trauma. Victims struggle overcoming the trauma and heightening their self–worth. In
individual therapy, clients often like to live in the past which makes it difficult to learn how to cope in the here and now. Survivors, unless they 've had
therapy, often do not connect their present ways of coping and affective states with their experience of childhood sexual abuse. For many clients,
shame, anxiety, depression, and concerns about sexual issues may be repressed most of the time, while for others, they may experience pain
associated with these issues continually every day for their entire lives. Survivors of abuse may find it challenging to cope with the intense, often
negative feelings that can plague them long after the abuse has ended, and their ability to find peace and happiness in life may be affected. Group
treatment for survivors is usually an important step in the healing process and has been found to be particularly helpful with this population. Group
therapy has demonstrated effectiveness in providing social support to help survivors of abuse cope with and transform their feelings of shame, guilt,
and alienation from others as they interact and bond with other people who have lived through similar experiences. To improve coping with the effects
of childhood sexual abuse, survivors can benefit from a variety of therapeutic approaches. Because of the complexity of survivors ' mental health

Collaborative Learning : A Variety Of Instructional Practices
Collaborative learning refers to 'a variety of instructional practices that encourage students to work together as they apply course material to answer
questions, solve problems, or create a project' (Colbeck et al. 2000, p.60). Collaborative learning is a form of group work and recognised among
educators, it has been a successful learning strategy from an educational point of view. This student–centered learning strategy is implemented in the
learning process and generally seem to have brought many benefits to students. Thus, Arnold and Boggs (2011) defined that group is 'a gathering of
two or more individuals, who share a common purpose, meet over substantial period of time, in face to face interaction, to achieve an identifiable goal'.

1995; Springer et el. 1999, as cited in Hillyard, Gillespie & Littig, 2010, p.10). As students do assignment in a form of group, brainstorming for the
given assignment is everybody's responsibility, everyone shares diverse perspectives, hence, it also shares the workload rather than handling it
individually. Furthermore, group work enhances the motivation to learn, retention of knowledge, depth of learning and appreciation of the subject
being taught (Felder and Brent 1996, p.43). Yet, student will have to put themselves physically and spiritually in group work, as they will get to do a
lot of discussions in together, interactions between each group member, the exchange of opinions will increase the desire to learn new knowledges or
opinions. As far from the survey of sophomore, junior and senior students from four different disciplines by Phipps et al. (2001), carried out that
interpersonal small group skills were rated positively, unfortunately, cooperative learning in general was rated negatively. It is obvious that students
prefer small group learning rather than learning in a form of class but individually. Groupwork also promotes students to learn actively (Ruel et al.
2003). By learning actively, students can improve perceptions and attitudes towards information literacy (Detlor et al. 2012, p.148). Group work is
undeniable as one of the most effective ways in helping students in learning.

The Most Powerful Learning Experiences For Me
Participations in small in–class groups which purpose was to accomplish a task assigned to us by our Professor, were the most powerful learning
experiences for me. In developing common focus, as stated in Gitterman and Germain (2008), members need to establish group rules and also
remember to "build on one another's contributions, identify and focus on salient collective themes, invite expression of differences" (p. 174), as well as
welcome opinions which are contradictory or different from the majority.
However, I have to admit that eliminating the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse in–class groups turned out to be one of
the most challenging aspects of my learning experience. I learned and understood how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, textbook readings not only expanded my knowledge of social work with groups but also provided knowledge context for our experiences
with in–class or external groups. For example, I familiarized myself with the Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups, Inc.
(AASWG) which is an international professional organization that establishes ethical guidelines for group counselors. The standards are described in
six sections which underline the changes in the worker's tasks relevant to changing and evolving of the group. (Association for the Advancement of
Social Work with Groups, Inc., 2012).
Another strength of this course was the emphasis on integration of knowledge from different sources – from mainstream and social media, for example,
following The Alamo Area Branch of NASW– Texas Chapter (2015) Facebook page, also facilitated my learning by placing local, state, and national
news in the context of social work related ethical, political and policy issues. While doing research for our "Comparison of Communication"
assignment, I gained deeper understanding of social media dynamics because the content and structure of the page are controlled by its administrators.
For instance, I learned how the flow of communication on Facebook reflected the views and opinions of its administrators, since materials that are
shared must have significant public impact and high

Summary of Article: In the article "Speaking Freely: My Experiences in Individual Psychotherapies, Group Therapies, and Growth Groups," Rebecca
Curtis discusses her experiences with multiple forms of therapy. First Curtis reviews her experiences with group therapies, then psychotherapy,
followed by two psychoanalysis experiences. Curtis also discusses the value of each of her experiences as well as the difficulties she had with certain

Curtis' second analyst was different from her first. According to Curtis, competition with this analyst was nonexistent. Annoyances that occurred

experience, "I could speak freely but learned to think more carefully about the consequences in advance, at least about some of them some of the time"
(Curtis, p. 802).
Value of Article: I find this article to be enlightening about how different types of therapies affect the same individual. Curtis had experience with two
types of group therapies before she interned, however she still learned from the group therapy she observed during her internship. While psychotherapy
did not resonate with Curtis, psychoanalysis worked better for her. Curtis depicts two encounters with psychoanalysis that had two drastically different
methods and results. The value of this article is that it shows individuals that even though one method of therapy did not work another

Thesis On Work Values
Chapter –2
Review of Literature
Work Value
Work occupies a central place in one's life. The importance attached to work has been quite a popular topic in social science and management. Theory
and research on work values proceed largely from the premise that work values are derived from people's basic value system that help them navigate
through the multiple spheres of their lives.
Rokeach (1973) in an early pioneering thesis states that a value is an enduring belief that a specific mode of conduct or end. State of existence is
personally or socially preferable to an opposite or converse mode of conduct or and a state of existence. He defines beliefs about preferable modes of
conduct instrument values and beliefs about preferable and states terminal values. In a value system, individual rank order their instrumental and
terminal values along a continuum of importance. Some researchers stress that work goals can be regarded synonymous to work values since the
concept of goals is a core element of values. Zedeek (1997) for example has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

work centrality rests on the assumption that individuals place work importance in their life sphere and attribute differing levels of importance to those

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Group Work
Was this experience of group work new for everyone in the group? Which elements of this group work were your group especially unfamiliar with?
Group work was not new as we have participated in group projects in previous courses. However, forming our own groups with other students that we
have not met before was a challenge in the time frame allocated. In most cases, professors would assign students to groups when group work is limited
in time as well as provide the contact information in advance to allow for a smoother introduction and planning. Also, the experience was a fast–paced
exercise. Being required to submit an academic paper that is 8–10 pages in length proved to be a challenge in five days. The academic paper was also

In terms of disadvantages of this specific task, time allocated for the exercise was limiting and made communication difficult as the group could only
meet in person once as members have other courses to attend as well as work. Therefore, most communication and group discussions/editing were
conducted online on Facebook and the shared google document itself.
What did this experience bring you? What does it bring compared to a class taught by the professor? What are the sources of dissatisfaction of this
group work? What do you suggest to improve this exercise?
This experience definitely brought a more in–depth look at some of these authors and topics, whereas instead of simply digesting the information
through our individual perspectives, we were able to learn from each other and explore different levels of interpretation. In the same fashion, it differs
from a lecture due to these multiple opinions it encourages. Dissatisfaction came from the overall goal, more than anything, as creating a thesis based
essay as a group is hard enough with such limited time. However, answering the various topic questions in the process made it even more difficult.
While it was most likely designed to help provide direction and organization, it quickly becomes tricky to individually address these broad themes

How Psychology Affects The Workplace Essay
How Psychology Affects the Workplace
Through the course of my research I have been studying and taking notes on my coworkers and I have found many traits in day to day converse that
are included in the studies of this class. The group in particular that I have been analyzing has many expected and unexpected qualities amongst all
members in the group. I evaluated two girls and two boys and they all have many of the same traits such as; they value their job, they speak formally
with management and informally with customers, they are optimistic and they care about their hygiene. Though they have many of the same qualities,
they pose them at different levels. Some qualities I found not of just the individual but of the entire group that I ... Show more content on

This not only impacted the group but it also had great effect on the individuals making them enjoy their work which in turn increased productivity and
spreading optimism to customers whom they came in contact with. Stereotypes are generalization about some groups characteristics that imply that all
members are the same in some way. This was another observation that I made throughout my research however, I found that this trait of the social
group was more implied than intentional. Although all members of the group I analyzed are fairly intelligent, the two people whom were in college
were the ones that were chosen to do the work that requires heavy mathematical understanding such as inventory, counting cash drawers and daily sales
tracking. These two individuals were stereotyped as "more intelligent" and that is why they had to do the mathematical work even though all members
of the group were capable. This affected the two college students' ego positively considering that the task was assigned to them for "superior
mathematical intelligence" and it affected the others positively as well simply because they were too busy to complete such tasks that involved heavy
and time–consuming math. This improved upon how quickly work was being done because even though every member of the group was capable of

The Field Of Social Work
The field of social work has experienced an increased awareness of the need to advanced in both educational and professional development. I realize
that preparation for this career actually includes a great deal of required coursework and hours of field experience. My fieldwork is central to my
learning and serves as an integrative experience in which I use what was previously learned in class and apply it to my practice experience.
I am currently in a very rewarding field study at the Osborne Association, Training to Work Program. Training to Work offers mentorship and
opportunities to both men and women who are on work release. The program is designed to reduce the rate of recidivism and to assist participants in
gaining meaningful employment and trainings. This experience requires considerable amount of meeting with participants and providing support,
empowerment and advocacy.
My supervisor is a central feature of my field experience as she ensures the integration and application of knowledge, theory and skill that was taught
in the classroom. Each week my supervisor who is very skilled and encouraging provides a one–hour supervision session where process recordings are
reviewed and any concerns or personal challenges are addressed. In addition, my strengths are also highlighted, as well as any struggles that I may
appear to be having, and my adaptation to the program.
My field study environment feels safe, challenged, secure and respected. Each week I have learned

Learning Skills In A Therapeutic Communicator Role
Introduction Overall groups have been a major part of my life from participating in them to facilitating them. While I have been apart of them I
never really thought about the fact that I am in them until now, even being in groups in the last few weeks in class I have been more conscious of
what I am doing. I have been in groups for children with anxiety, groups that are clubs, and have worked leading support and activity groups as well
as groups for children including summer camps, out of school care and daycare. From this course, I hope to develop my skills more in these areas as
well as learn skills in a therapeutic facilitator role.
What I know about groups I know that groups come in all shapes and sizes. For children, some of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am fine being a leader in general and I know what it is like to be in a group. It will be a challenge though, as I have already stated I am used to
leading children and teens. Even though this will be a challenge I am excited to see how I can overcome this and become a better facilitator from it.
The camp I went to gave me experience in group work that was a bit different and not just sitting around talking. We would talk at the end of the day
and de–brief, definitely when I went with my youth group but we were also surprised the feelings and emotions that came up from our experiences
from the day. From my experience with the other classes, I have been in and the experience of meeting my group members and jumping into an
example I am confident that this class with continue to challenge and build my skills. I hope that my confidence will help me and not inhibit me in any

Research exploring differences between ethnic groups in labour market participation and employment status for those in work.
Ethnic minority disadvantage in the labour market
This research explores differences between ethnic groups in labour market participation (unemployment, employment and hours worked) and
employment status (low, mid and high skilled occupation levels) for those in work.
It examines whether there is 'clustering' into particular occupations for some ethnic groups, and looks at how much geography matters for employment
and job status for different ethnic groups.
This paper finds that:
In terms of unemployment, the overwhelming picture is one of continuing ethnic minority disadvantage compared with the White British majority
group;
There is a considerable difference in unemployment rates between places for each ethnic group, as well as between ethnic groups; and
Ethnic inequalities between groups have persisted over time.
Summary
Summary
Key points
Ethnic inequalities in labour market participation have persisted over time; between 2001 and 2011, there remained considerable differences between
ethnic groups in employee, self– employed, and unemployment rates. In terms of unemployment, the overwhelming picture is one of continuing ethnic
minority disadvantage compared with the White British majority group.
There is considerable variability in unemployment rates between places for each ethnic group, as well as between ethnic groups.

My Research on Abortion
1.What did you learn about doing research? While conducting my research on abortion, I learned that there were different types of medical procedures
that abortionist utilized when aborting an embryo and fetus. However, I was familiar with what an abortion is, but never imagined the grotesque,
inhumane, and heinous techniques used to abort a human being even at the late stages of pregnancy. After watching numerous online videos of these
procedures, I feel it is morally wrong to have an abortion because there are thousands of women that cannot have children and have exhausted all the
possible ways to do so. In conclusion, completing this project and viewing these graphical pictures has given me a clearer understand what the process
entailed and how it was implemented.
2.How did you do your research? I researched this topic by viewing journal articles in the Baker College Database from the library. I looked for
books on the subject of Abortion to get a better sense what the procedure entailed and how it was conducted. I also utilized the internet to look for
pictures and statistics on Abortion. I finished the research project by looking for client testimonies on their experience with the procedure and their
well–being prior and after having it completed.
3.Did you learn how to do research in a new way? However, I did not learn how to do research in a new way. I conducted my research the same way
that I do for all my other projects. I usually have a system and

Critical Reflection On Group Work
Critical Reflection Group work is an important part of work. In many jobs, group work is a function that is required. Therefore it's important to
develop the skills and practices at University. In this essay I critically analyse my own experiences against the literature. Groups generally cannot
have a high number of members. Its noted groups generally work better when there are less than six members . This is because as participant
numbers increase, it becomes more difficult to meet making members less likely to participate . In my experience, our group of five members
struggled to organise meeting times due to each other's schedule however we wrote in our group contract a meeting clause which I believed did help
ensure people attended. Without... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This adds its own challenges. Our group overcame this obstacle by utilising resources available to us. We used the file exchange for our documents
and scheduled in skype sessions weeks before they were to happen. I appreciated the large effort most of the team made to make it to skype
meetings and as discussed earlier, although I had my technological difficulties, other member's did too but the group was responsive and
empathetic. Our group reaped the benefits of forming social connections and performing better which Rundle summarised. As I am only in my first
year, there is a high probability there will be more group work in future years and as such, some recommendations need to be made. The main
recommendation is to make an assessment timeframe includes what needs to be done by certain dates, including times for editing/proofreading. This
timeframe would also include dates and times of when the group would meet. This essay has provided a limited number of group work principles. I
have critically assessed my experience of group work against these limited principles. I have shown although our team was at a disadvantage due to
the fact we were external students, we have still formed a strong group and have used to create a polished end

Outline The History Of Group Work, Its Advantages And...
This assignment will aim to define what group work is, outline the history of group work, its advantages and disadvantages and the use of group for
individuals suffering from ill mental health. The second part of this assignment will be a reflection that will outline the authors personal experience of
participating in a group in the university setting and the challenges and growths associated with that. Human beings naturally form groups and are
shaped by them. Usually beginning in the microcosm of the family and extending to larger societal and cultural groups.
The use of therapeutic groups within the mental health field emerged in the early 20th century. The prevalent psychoanalytical theory at the time
fixated on the internal world of the individual to explain mental ill health. Alfred Adler challenged this position with his belief that individuals do not
exist in isolation and that their family and loved ones should be included in therapeutic interventions. Social psychologists such as Kurt Lewin
pioneered the idea that individuals are profoundly influenced by their environment. The language of "group work" and "group psychotherapy" was first
coined by Jacob Moreno in his work with prison populations (Ryrie and Norman 2013).
Therapeutic communities were developed in the United Kingdom in the wake of World War II the first at Northfield military hospital, this is now
considered the first intentional therapeutic community. This community pioneered a the first

what I bring to The Struggle Squad is the ability to learn quickly. Being at a CALL will be an unforgettable fun experience, but there are also lots of
requirements and expectations being a mentor. Being able to grasp material quickly makes the GSDs work load lighter and makes for an exceptional

Small Group Observation : Purpose, And Dynamics Of The Group
Small Group Observation Paper
Type, Purpose, and Dynamics of the Group
The Small Group Observation assignment provided the opportunity to experience a self–help group and better understand the intentions, purpose, and
functions of support groups. The particular group that I observed was provided through my field agency, Richland 2 School District, for all interns
serving as school social workers. The small group is considered a task group that is centered around giving an additional layer of support for graduate
students during their field placement experience. In addition, the group addresses the school setting, district expectations, processes events, and assists
when any stressful or unanticipated occasions occur throughout the semester. The group meets once monthly in a school conference room and
continues for two hours. Furthermore, two school social workers from the district facilitate the support groups for interns throughout their year of field
placement. The facilitators are not supervisors or preceptors for any of the group members. Each group consists of five group participants, all graduate
students in a Social Work Program. Although the students are each completing internships as school social workers, their standing and stages in the
coursework vary as some are part–time, full time, or advanced year. The group is established every year at the start of the fall semester and will
conclude at the end of the spring semester.

In this class I have been able to experience group projects in a different manner than before. I have always struggled with social anxiety and group
experiences have always been hard for me. If it was not for the help of many wonderful people, I do not think I would have been able to take this class.
This group experience has been one I always will remember, because it was the first experience where I felt comfortable. In my group we used
inclusivity, empowering, and process–orientation to help accomplish our goals.
Inclusivity is a big aspect of group work. Without it no one would feel a part of the team and not want to do any work. Our group banded together
because of our seating proximities. However, we chose to stay in the group because we got along so well. One of our group members slowly
worked his way into our group and we unknowingly included him in. For the final project we were all excited to start working on together and
collectively decided to do the best work we are capable of. We used inclusivity during this project by allowing everybody to express their ideas. What

Without it nothing would get done. My group wanted this final project to be one of the best videos in class. When we all got together to come up

writing ideas down that we started to get our group dynamic together. We made sure everybody expressed their idea and gave their pitch on the
video. While we filmed the video, everybody gave their view on how each scene should be filmed. However, it was not a stressful experience we all
joked and laughed throughout making the video. This group experience made me realize that group projects can be fun. They do not have to be a
horrible process, we just have to communicate and make sure everyone feels

Perhaps the best known and influential of the early efforts were the classes run by R. H. Tawney in Rochdale. These classes involved teaching and
discussion, and an equal relationship between the teacher and the group. Kelly (1970: 254) argues that tutorial classes comprised: 24 two hour

After Effects and Premiere, I was able to produce the final result. See a sample of this work in Fig 1. The mentorship that I received there wasn't

Process Notes from an Orbits Group
The Orbits group session began with a discussion about coping skills, and how hard it is to utilize coping skills in crisis situations. As the group
started, the leader who is JG, the Mental Health Technician, discussed the ground rules. The rules included raising your hands when you wished to be
acknowledged, ask, or answer questions, allowing others to complete a thought before replying, and remaining respectful at all times, which included
no side conversations. Members who understand what behaviors are expected of them tend to be more successful (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2010). The

Work Experience
I didn't choose what my work placement was to be. I turned up at Miss Franklin's office nervously hoping that I would get a good placement. She sat

letters, and the title was BUPA Hospital,Marketing Department, Bushey. The first thought that sprang into my head was, how tedious. Then I took
some time to think about the ups and downs of it. I do live in Bushey and it is not even five minutes drive from my house. Also my business studies

told that she is a great lady and I would have a lot of fun with her. My mother was also told that there could be a chance of a part–time job after school
and on Saturdays. This inspired me to work really hard for them in order try to impress everyone.
I had not done any research into the company apart from a brief look at their web site but I felt that I knew sufficient information for a preliminary
interview. I hoped to learn some very important life skills and gain some great experience, which would be of use to me in later life. I was hoping to
gain work on computer skills, as I feel I am competent in this area and could impress if I were to be given the chance. As I did not know a great deal
about marketing I was keen to gain as much knowledge as possible and hospital marketing is a field of its own.

Reflection On Group Work
Teamwork can be complex and challenging given task and interpersonal issues, level of group motivation and expected performance standards. The
concrete experience spoken about in this reflection piece is in reference to the effectiveness of myself as a group member and the group, working to
write a report outlining the organisation and structure of Volkswagen. Dennison (2009) applies Kolb's learning cycle (1981, 1984) which suggests that
learning moves through a continuous cycle, between having an experience, and then reflecting on that action. This cycle has been developed from
Lewin's (1951) model for experiential learning. Reflection termed by Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985) 'is a forum of response to the learner to
experience'(p. 18). On reflection, the early set group dynamics was a defining factor in the experience, and how the team conducted themselves
throughout the task. Meyerson, Wick and Kramer (1996) note that 'such rapidly converging groups require methods for developing "swift trust"' (p. 8),
which can explain why initial group dynamics are so important. I took on multiple team roles, including group leader, which could be translated into
the team not performing collectively on a high level, however, I could view this as a personal ineffectiveness of my leadership style.
The effectiveness of working in a team varied between members. My personal experience, academic theorists, and further critical analysis can be used
to discuss this. According to Ket De Vries

Reflection Paper On Group Work
The work that we have done so far has been great experience for all of us. And I think that it will give us an advantage when we are looking for
jobs, because experience will take you farther than any number of classes or research when looking for a job. There is no doubt that we will face
similar situations after we graduate, and we need to be prepared to handle them. Because of the way that the projects are structured we are all able
to take turns managing the group, something that many of us have no experience doing. However I think that there are communication issues
between the editorial and advertising sides, more specifically the lack of communication that is taking place. For the most part, our portion of the
project is going well, there have been some really strong ideas put on the table. We have a group of people that are good managers as well as good
followers, which is a perfect balance to have when working with such a large group. While it is good to be a strong leader, it is also beneficial to
know how to follow, otherwise there would just be a group of leaders and nothing would ever get done. This class is showing us how to find that
balance by having all of us rotate through management positions throughout the different stages of the project. To my knowledge there are not very
many of us that have ever worked in a group this large, having experience doing so will be valuable later in our careers. Something that I have noticed

The group dynamic can be influenced by the facilitator through their actions and response to the group. In my professional life there were times

observation of the group whether to choose the protagonist or activate the group to choose (DuricМЃ,VeljkovicМЃ, &TomicМЃ 2006 p. 9). Because
the group is small I would like to allow the group to select which photograph they would like to use for the process group. Unless there is a
member who has presented a strong evocative photograph that would create a powerful group experience I would like to allow the group to
choose. However if the picture were as powerful as I suspect I believe the members would select that one as well. If they chose something else it
may be an opportunity for me to review how I perceive the importance of an event. The group will then decide which photograph will be the focus of
the psychodrama and the member who was selected will act out their scene for the group. The member will use pieces of furniture to set their scene
and they will be the protagonist of the story (DuricМЃ,VeljkovicМЃ, &TomicМЃ 2006 p. 11). I found this technique to be of interest because it

Group projects are horrible and just give the opportunity for laziness. I have never, ever liked group projects. Group projects are the worst in my
school experience because some people want to do all of the work, some members do not contribute to the project, and some students lack the
courage to talk to anyone. Therefore, I have never enjoyed group projects as well as many others. For one, many students do all or most of the work.
Those students strive to get finished faster. Sometimes, they are overbearing on the rest of the group. These students think they can do the project finer
than anyone else in the group, which is annoying. In summary, in group projects there is always that one person who wants to do all or most of the work;

Evaluation
Within this section I am going to evaluate the good experiences I have had within this semester along with the not so good experiences, I believe by
pointing out my bad experiences/ weaknesses within this topic I will be able to develop my knowledge further in the future. Below are a few of my
different experiences.
Good experiences
Through the completion of this module my ability to work within a group has been developed and through dealing with the arising group problems I
have learned more about time management. * Skills developed within this subject will certainly aid me within my future presentations and individual
work. * Presentation skills within Power–point were developed upon as members within my group had more knowledge of the presentation skills
within it and were able to help me develop my knowledge of different icons etc. * Through the use of research and development techniques used to
complete our documents I have developed more business strategic management skills.
Bad Experiences * The bad experiences with this task were few and far between however, I feel that a few members of my group were not at the same
learning level as me and found it hard to understand some of my recommendations. * As well as them not being able to understand my
recommendations it was tough when reading some of the group members inputs to different things as there work was documented at a lower

Case Study Of The Michigan Model Of HRM

  • 1. Case Study Of The Michigan Model Of HRM 3.2 Michigan Model of HRM In contrast to the Harvard Model, the Michigan model (Figure 4) is considered as a 'hard' HRM model. Those models consider human resources as economic factors for achieving the strategy of the organization (Henderson, 2008). Figure 4: Michigan Model Performance displays the centre of this approach. All human resource sections influence the outcome in the performance of the workers and thus the company. At first, the selection of proper staff is important for the company. Centerscape is looking for young, motivated, and skilled people. The selection process starts with evaluating which applicant would be best to perform the task. After that, a small number is invited for an interview, to look who would fit in the company culture (von Einem, 2016). This is the basis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To ensure good operational performance on the long term, it is vital to attract skilled young workers, and to retain the established workers in the company. To achieve these goals, specific policies related to these issues are recommended. 4.1 Dual Education System One approach to attract young workers is the implementation of the dual education system in the company. The systems combine both theory and practical experience. Students in this system attend universities specially designed for dual education. In their actual semester break the students work in the partner company. The system has enjoyed great popularity in recent years in Germany, as Figure 5 indicates. Figure 5: Number of dual education students and companies (Wegweiser–duales–studium.de, n.d.) The blue graph shows the number of students studying in the dual education system in Germany. Between mid–2012 and mid–2014, the number increased significantly from about 65,000 students to 95,000. The green graph illustrates the number of companies offering a dual education programme. Despite a short decrease in 2011, this number rose steadily, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Work Experience Essay Work Experience Essay It all began when my tutor informed us that we have to find our work placements for the two weeks of work experience. When we were first told about work experience I thought to my self 'great no school for two weeks.' I was looking forward to looking around places and trying to figure out what and where I wanted to do my work experience. I personally enjoy things associated with Sports and helping people so I wanted to do something along these lines. I started looking around areas of work I could look into, and then phoned up some of these places to see if they did work experience in advance. I found that many of the places I wanted to do work experience at did have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I kept telling my self that I had plenty of time left and that I would find a placement eventually (which in my case was almost never!). I was now back at school and did nothing over the half term. My parents were nagging me to get my placement sorted, as well as my tutor and Mrs. Lunan! I decided I had to do something now or I will have nothing to do; I got out the yellow pages out and the first pages I looked at were the Sports Centres. The first place I thought of ringing was Harrow Leisure Centre; they said I could get a placement and told me that I had to have a C.V. I did as they had asked but when I got there; I was waiting for about thirty minutes before the head of work experience saw me. He then told me that I would not be able to do work experience there as all the placements had been taken. At this point, I was annoyed as they had not told me this over the phone and made me wait for thirty minutes doing nothing, also I had to walk there in such short notice (I hate walking)! This was the second time I had been messed about like this and I was furious! At this point, I did not want to go to work experience as I got the impression that people were rude and inconsiderate and I did not want to work with people like this. It was now June and I still felt the same, but it was becoming clear to me that I had to find a placement in the next few days ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Co Operative Education And Traditional Education "Unlike other subjects that may require work and effort to understand, people tend to think they know what education is. It is familiar topic: a word in the daily use. It's all around us. We go to college or university to get educated. We entrust our children to schools in the belief that they will become knowledgeable and skilled" (Wood 11). Evidently, education is a long–term process, which almost all people must experience in life. So that, the choices associated with major, future job or kind of programs are controversial problems in general public, especially the issue of whether or not Co–operative (Co–op) education is better than traditional (Non Co–op) programs. Additionally, it is also implied that Co–operative program is known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As evidence of this, according to Learning to Learn, "College teachers have expressed frustration about attendance in class, uncompleted reading assignments, and student focus on grades rather than learning. Student surveys indicate that courses are not interesting, that students fail to recognize the value of what they are learning, and that many faculty rely too heavily on lectures for transmitting information" (Wirth and Perkins 2–3). Moreover, the rote learning style, which is the memorization of information based on repetition, though might not understand basic content deeply or may immediately forget the facts they have learned after the test is the harmful disease that so many students are struggling. Contrary to conventional education programs, it is implied that "Evidently, enabling students to experience the more theoretical world of school in tandem with the more practical world of work has the potential of increasing some of the positive outcomes of education" (Jeela 2). In other words, due to integrated learning model of co–op educational structure, the student can review knowledge what is gained in class more effective than studying what were taken note. It is true that beside classroom lectures, Co–op program allows students to work at the company to get credit. This is mandatory if the learners choose the curriculum with Co–op course, the period will be interspersed with durations of student lectures. Moreover, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our group assignment based upon making a postcard for our school. In which this highlights the importance of one of the facilities that Santa Ana College provides for the students. As a group, we choose the Child Care Center as our topic for the postcard. As I worked in the group, I felt respected and valued. I felt that my group volunteered and contributed equally. We were a little hesitant at first when we choose the topic because my group members were unfamiliar with the Child Care Center. I encouraged my group members about the topic due to my experience in the center and my background in human development. As a student at Santa Ana College, I was thrilled at the idea of representing the Child Care Center. Also as a human development major, I felt honored to fulfill this assignment. I felt that the topic of our postcard was a proper way to express the school. Our group ventured out to look for pictures of the child center and take photos of the facility. As my group and I went out to take pictures of the Child Care Center for our postcard, we later sat together to see what pictures we had and to see what we can use for the postcard. Later on, we then sat together at Starbucks to discuss our progress. We then started editing our postcard and made some changes on the essay. We decide to go with the idea of having the Child Care Center pictures paired up with the quote written in the iconic Disney font to show how it was child friendly. As our group continued our project we helped, each other grow individually and influenced our experiences as students. Personally, I had a great experience in my group and ... In this assignment, I will discuss how I located the support group of my choice, what I was able to observe in the group session, and feelings or reactions I had during the process. This assignment will give a look into my first experience attending a real–life support group session from the other side of the coin. Within the circle there were cardboards that read different quotes or saying used a lot in the program and a small basket. As I got closer to where the people were standing it felt strange because nobody acknowledged my presence. I was looking kind of lost when I was received by the facilitator who was a friendly woman who called upon the group so that she could introduce me and gave me the opportunity to explain that I was a MSW student from Simmons College and my purpose of being with them that night. The facilitator explained to them that I was aware of the importance of confidentiality and that I was not allowed to take pictures or takes notes. She then led me to a seat in the circle and gave me a book so that I could participate in the reading of the 12 steps and traditions with the rest of the group. It is suggested that "groups have the potential to outperform individuals" (Mottola & Utkus, 2009). There are several facets that impact teamwork, including communication, and cooperation. Conflicts and challenges are also important aspects that can occur in teamwork. It is imperative to understand effective models, and actions that can be taken to establish successful work. The various challenges and conflicts impacted all the members of the group, and resulted in a subpar presentation. As the presentation was a significant portion of our final grade, it was imperative for the author as well as several other members to take initiative and salvage the presentation before it was a complete disaster. The author behaved in this manner to ensure the requirements of the assignment were met, and the presentation was delivered in order to avoid failure for the assignment. The other members of the group that also took initiative to complete the assignment were motivated to achieve these goals as well. The individuals that lacked participation were fueled by conflict and determined to create a negative experience because of refusal for agreement. The individuals removed themselves from the group and choose to work on aspects of the presentation alone. This impacted the group negatively because there was lack of communication, and opinions from everyone involved. Joan Bunashe and Lindsay Broder suggest that "conflict isolates individuals and can have an impact on creativity and productivity" (Bunashe & Broder, 2015). My group proposal experience was not that bad. However, I did have to be patient and wait for other members to submit their work. I also had to be patient and see when we could meet because some of my group members did not show up for group meetings. I also felt like the majority of my group was not participating and getting work done. My group was some what organized because we had a checklist of the materials we had to submit and complete. One class she even said that it was her birthday weekend so she might not turn in her work the next class. I honestly wanted to laugh because I thought it was a joke. Her escriptors would be avoider and blocker because she barely participated in the work. A positive impact this experience had on me is that I was able to lead a group. I do not like telling people what to do which is why I do not consider myself a leader. However, this project has taught me that it is not so bad being a leader. Another positive impact is that I was able to see how it is to work with other people. usually in other classes you partner up to complete a one page assignment within an hour. System Theory Systems Theory Paper Groups of people working together can either be a positive or a negative experience; the deciding factor is the way people in the group are able to collaborate. There are many different ways people work together and many different personalities that either conflict or mesh. People that are extremely different and have strong opinions that are conflicting with other persons of the group will most likely not function to produce positive results. Through reading "In Mixed Company" by J.Dan Rothwell and personal experience I have determined that key factors to groups working as systems are group synergy and the ripple effect. All ripple effects create a large produce, but it always starts with a small part of a system. • 11. Survivors Of Childhood Sexual Abuse Sexual abuse victims often have a difficult time overcoming the trauma. Victims struggle overcoming the trauma and heightening their self–worth. In individual therapy, clients often like to live in the past which makes it difficult to learn how to cope in the here and now. Survivors, unless they 've had therapy, often do not connect their present ways of coping and affective states with their experience of childhood sexual abuse. For many clients, shame, anxiety, depression, and concerns about sexual issues may be repressed most of the time, while for others, they may experience pain associated with these issues continually every day for their entire lives. Survivors of abuse may find it challenging to cope with the intense, often negative feelings that can plague them long after the abuse has ended, and their ability to find peace and happiness in life may be affected. Group treatment for survivors is usually an important step in the healing process and has been found to be particularly helpful with this population. Group therapy has demonstrated effectiveness in providing social support to help survivors of abuse cope with and transform their feelings of shame, guilt, and alienation from others as they interact and bond with other people who have lived through similar experiences. To improve coping with the effects of childhood sexual abuse, survivors can benefit from a variety of therapeutic approaches. Because of the complexity of survivors ' mental health ... Collaborative Learning : A Variety Of Instructional Practices Collaborative learning refers to 'a variety of instructional practices that encourage students to work together as they apply course material to answer questions, solve problems, or create a project' (Colbeck et al. 2000, p.60). Collaborative learning is a form of group work and recognised among educators, it has been a successful learning strategy from an educational point of view. This student–centered learning strategy is implemented in the learning process and generally seem to have brought many benefits to students. Furthermore, group work enhances the motivation to learn, retention of knowledge, depth of learning and appreciation of the subject being taught (Felder and Brent 1996, p.43). Yet, student will have to put themselves physically and spiritually in group work, as they will get to do a lot of discussions in together, interactions between each group member, the exchange of opinions will increase the desire to learn new knowledges or opinions. The Most Powerful Learning Experiences For Me Participations in small in–class groups which purpose was to accomplish a task assigned to us by our Professor, were the most powerful learning experiences for me. The importance attached to work has been quite a popular topic in social science and management. Theory and research on work values proceed largely from the premise that work values are derived from people's basic value system that help them navigate through the multiple spheres of their lives. Group work was not new as we have participated in group projects in previous courses. In most cases, professors would assign students to groups when group work is limited in time as well as provide the contact information in advance to allow for a smoother introduction and planning. Although all members of the group I analyzed are fairly intelligent, the two people whom were in college were the ones that were chosen to do the work that requires heavy mathematical understanding such as inventory, counting cash drawers and daily sales tracking. These two individuals were stereotyped as "more intelligent" and that is why they had to do the mathematical work even though all members of the group were capable. This affected the two college students' ego positively considering that the task was assigned to them for "superior mathematical intelligence" and it affected the others positively as well simply because they were too busy to complete such tasks that involved heavy and time–consuming math. The second part of this assignment will be a reflection that will outline the authors personal experience of participating in a group in the university setting and the challenges and growths associated with that. Human beings naturally form groups and are shaped by them. Usually beginning in the microcosm of the family and extending to larger societal and cultural groups. The use of therapeutic groups within the mental health field emerged in the early 20th century. The prevalent psychoanalytical theory at the time fixated on the internal world of the individual to explain mental ill health. Alfred Adler challenged this position with his belief that individuals do not exist in isolation and that their family and loved ones should be included in therapeutic interventions. Social psychologists such as Kurt Lewin pioneered the idea that individuals are profoundly influenced by their environment. The language of "group work" and "group psychotherapy" was first coined by Jacob Moreno in his work with prison populations (Ryrie and Norman 2013). Orbits Group Process Analysis Process Notes from an Orbits Group The Orbits group session began with a discussion about coping skills, and how hard it is to utilize coping skills in crisis situations. As the group started, the leader who is JG, the Mental Health Technician, discussed the ground rules. The rules included raising your hands when you wished to be acknowledged, ask, or answer questions, allowing others to complete a thought before replying, and remaining respectful at all times, which included no side conversations. Members who understand what behaviors are expected of them tend to be more successful (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2010). The group maintained a wheel pattern of communication, sitting in a circle, with the group leader focused in the center, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since it is an open group, and some members have been to The Bradley Center in the past, some having been there longer than others, and others being totally new, the mixture of stages will occur. As far as my feelings about the group, I think it was productive for MH, DM, and TS. The alliance/subgroup obviously affected the group in a negative way in the beginning, and I thought that it would continue throughout the meeting because from my experience that is usually the case. However, I believe that DM did the right thing by opening up, and expressing his feelings, which lead to meaningful work occurring between him and MH. I also believe that the leader did a good job allowing this confrontation to play out, but not get out of control. She also did a good job of directly addressing problems in the group, and making the right decisions when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Work Experience Essay examples Work Experience I didn't choose what my work placement was to be. I turned up at Miss Franklin's office nervously hoping that I would get a good placement. She sat me down and looked through some documents. She pulled a wad out and told me that she had found a convenient work placement. She showed me the letters, and the title was BUPA Hospital,Marketing Department, Bushey. The first thought that sprang into my head was, how tedious. Then I took some time to think about the ups and downs of it. I do live in Bushey and it is not even five minutes drive from my house. Also my business studies coursework is about marketing so I might gain some useful knowledge that would help me with that. Miss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I realised that mine might not be as exciting or eventful as theirs but I considered that my placement might be a more useful experience for later life. My mother is friendly with quite a lot of people who work at BUPA. She spoke to quite a close friend of hers who answers to my supervisor and was told that she is a great lady and I would have a lot of fun with her. My mother was also told that there could be a chance of a part–time job after school and on Saturdays. This inspired me to work really hard for them in order try to impress everyone. I had not done any research into the company apart from a brief look at their web site but I felt that I knew sufficient information for a preliminary interview. I hoped to learn some very important life skills and gain some great experience, which would be of use to me in later life. I was hoping to gain work on computer skills, as I feel I am competent in this area and could impress if I were to be given the chance. As I did not know a great deal about marketing I was keen to gain as much knowledge as possible and hospital marketing is a field of its own. On the whole I looked forward to the week it would be a good experience that should teach me some useful skills. I was to work in an office with just the Marketing Manager and the Assistant ... • 33. Reflection On Group Work Teamwork can be complex and challenging given task and interpersonal issues, level of group motivation and expected performance standards. The concrete experience spoken about in this reflection piece is in reference to the effectiveness of myself as a group member and the group, working to write a report outlining the organisation and structure of Volkswagen. Dennison (2009) applies Kolb's learning cycle (1981, 1984) which suggests that learning moves through a continuous cycle, between having an experience, and then reflecting on that action. This cycle has been developed from Lewin's (1951) model for experiential learning. Reflection termed by Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985) 'is a forum of response to the learner to experience'(p. 18). On reflection, the early set group dynamics was a defining factor in the experience, and how the team conducted themselves throughout the task. Meyerson, Wick and Kramer (1996) note that 'such rapidly converging groups require methods for developing "swift trust"' (p. 8), which can explain why initial group dynamics are so important. I took on multiple team roles, including group leader, which could be translated into the team not performing collectively on a high level, however, I could view this as a personal ineffectiveness of my leadership style. The effectiveness of working in a team varied between members. My personal experience, academic theorists, and further critical analysis can be used to discuss this. According to Ket De Vries ... • 34. Reflection Paper On Group Work The work that we have done so far has been great experience for all of us. And I think that it will give us an advantage when we are looking for jobs, because experience will take you farther than any number of classes or research when looking for a job. There is no doubt that we will face similar situations after we graduate, and we need to be prepared to handle them. Because of the way that the projects are structured we are all able to take turns managing the group, something that many of us have no experience doing. However I think that there are communication issues between the editorial and advertising sides, more specifically the lack of communication that is taking place. For the most part, our portion of the project is going well, there have been some really strong ideas put on the table. We have a group of people that are good managers as well as good followers, which is a perfect balance to have when working with such a large group. While it is good to be a strong leader, it is also beneficial to know how to follow, otherwise there would just be a group of leaders and nothing would ever get done. This class is showing us how to find that balance by having all of us rotate through management positions throughout the different stages of the project. To my knowledge there are not very many of us that have ever worked in a group this large, having experience doing so will be valuable later in our careers. Something that I have noticed with the setup of the teams ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Group Dynamics: Group Analysis The group dynamic can be influenced by the facilitator through their actions and response to the group. In my professional life there were times when I was tasked to lead break out groups in an effort to discuss areas that were working and areas where we as a team could do things better. In these small break out group experiences I recognize strengths and challenges in my ability as a leader. Without formal experience in the helping profession I was unsure how I would relate my personal experience to the group dynamic. In reading Yalom, I recognized the skills used in my job to facilitate break out groups was similar to those used to lead process groups. Strengths and weaknesses Today I am an effective group leader because I have had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the group engages in the warm up my role is to keep an open mind for prompt recognition. A decision needs to be made based on this observation of the group whether to choose the protagonist or activate the group to choose (DuricМЃ,VeljkovicМЃ, &TomicМЃ 2006 p. 9). Because the group is small I would like to allow the group to select which photograph they would like to use for the process group. Unless there is a member who has presented a strong evocative photograph that would create a powerful group experience I would like to allow the group to choose. However if the picture were as powerful as I suspect I believe the members would select that one as well. If they chose something else it may be an opportunity for me to review how I perceive the importance of an event. The group will then decide which photograph will be the focus of the psychodrama and the member who was selected will act out their scene for the group. The member will use pieces of furniture to set their scene and they will be the protagonist of the story (DuricМЃ,VeljkovicМЃ, &TomicМЃ 2006 p. 11). I found this technique to be of interest because it develops the skills I spoke of lacking. In using this technique the members will select the direction the group will take in order to give the most meaningful experience to all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Group Project Research Paper Group projects are horrible and just give the opportunity for laziness. I have never, ever liked group projects. Group projects are the worst in my school experience because some people want to do all of the work, some members do not contribute to the project, and some students lack the courage to talk to anyone. Therefore, I have never enjoyed group projects as well as many others. For one, many students do all or most of the work. Those students strive to get finished faster. Sometimes, they are overbearing on the rest of the group. These students think they can do the project finer than anyone else in the group, which is annoying. In summary, in group projects there is always that one person who wants to do all or most of the work; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Appropriate situations for group work Example Explanation Situation 1Students formed groups – students form their own groups, select members from their classmates. This is often the way students like. If they know that others in the classroom, they tend to choose their "friends." If they've been together before taking the class, they chose someone else, they have succeeded and cooperation, and to avoid those that are not as motivated, because they think he is. When students report higher levels of satisfaction with the experience of the group, they choose their members. However, this may not be to the formation of the group, it is the best way...
