Analysis Of The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk is a fiction movie released on June 8, 2008. The movie was produced by Marvel Studios and Valhalla Motion Pictures. The film
took place mostly in Toronto, Canada. The director of the movie is Louis Leterrier. The movie is about a person named Bruce Banner who transforms
into a beast called the Hulk, a huge green monster with a muscular body. The transformation is caused by a disease that contaminated Banner's cells.
The transformation happens whenever Banner gets angry. However, the anger goes away when the Hulk sees that there is no danger around him. The
anger goes away whenever his love, Betty Ross touches him. Banner searches the world to find a cure for his disease, but the military keeps blocking
his way because they want his power to create an army just like the Hulk. New threats appear trying to use the masculinity in order to achieve
whatever needed. In addition, the Hulk faces his nemesis called The Abomination. It is also a green monster that literally has similar powers as the
Hulk. The Hulk character embodies a larger tension with our culture's relation to masculinity. On one hand, it condemns the destruction and violence
associated with masculinity, and on the other, it celebrates it. The film can be viewed as having mixed messages for boys because it provides
unrealistic masculinity that represents good and bad manners.
The film represents violence of destruction as associated with masculinity, and it shows this as a negative attitude, and

Feminist Analysis : Betty Friedan
Betty Friedan explores the troubles that women have faced and the reason behind these troubles in The Feminine Mystique. She defines the "feminine
mystique" as a limitation set on women's femininity across America in the 1950s and early 1960s. She explains how she believes it came to be so
widely upheld due to magazines written by men and how it has had an effect on women in a negative way. According to Friedan, due tothe feminine
mystique developed from magazine stories, society forces women to abandon any career aspirations in order to devote their lives to being housewives
and mothers, as well as be completely fulfilled with this life path. Friedan describes the feminine mystique as the pressures and limitations set on
women's femininity. She states, " the feminine mystique says that the highest value and the only commitment for women is the fulfillment of their own
femininity" (Friedan 35). Society has reverted back to the the image that women were thought to be before they had equal rights. The women before
this time had fought so hard to be equals in society as men, yet the ideals a woman must uphold were the same. It was not acceptable for a woman to
do anything of a male 's role or she would be undermining her femininity. Feminity at this time was only seen as cooking, cleaning, washing, and
providing babies. To be any different than this was seen as masculine. Making money was manly. Being independent was manly. Leaving the house was
manly. Friedan claims that

Feminism And The Second Wave Of Feminism
Any given person can define feminism in a different way. Some view it as a women's movement for women, by women and against men. It can also
be hard to distinguish the different types of feminism when the more radical, outspoken people or organizations can overshadow the rest. In general,
feminism is another way in which to view things, another lens in which to see the world. It is another platform for people to express themselves as
whole individuals and become a voice for others that may otherwise remain unheard. Feminism as a whole takes a look at social constructs and gender
norms and begins to deconstruct them to create an environment that is equal and accepting of all persons. In the second wave of feminism, many
women began to break out of the roles as housewives and mothers and speak up for equality. Gloria Steinem is among many of the influential women
who took the world by storm with their radical ideas of feminism and challenge the ideals that society had set forth for post–war women of the time.
Before joining Bella Abzug and Betty Friedan in the formation of the National Women's Politic Caucus, Gloria Steinem was taking care of her
divorced, mentally ill mother in Toledo, Ohio. Steinem spent six years caring for her mother before she left for Smith College where she obtained a
degree in government, a choice that was non–traditional for a woman at the time. After establishing herself as a freelance writer, Steinem worked for

Women 's Role For Women
In the 1950's, women truly believed they were living the life. Every day, they would do chores like making beds and clean up after her children. All
their "desires are to glory in their own feminity" (Friedan). They believed that to be the best wife is to please their husband and should only be
"concerned only about her husband and children" (Friedan). Even though women assumed they were being an ideal wife and mother, their role should
not define who they are as women because they should not feel restricted, women should be able to empower other women, and women are made for
much greater purposes.
Women were "taught to pity the unfeminine" (Friedan). They thought that "true feminine women don't want careers, higher education, or political
rights" (Friedan). Women should not have to feel restricted and identify themselves as a housewife/mother. Women should have their own ambitions
other than being a housewife/mother. By having ambitions, women are constantly pursuing of what they want to achieve. They should not feel
content of what they are doing right now because women are made for so much more than just being a housewife/mother. They should not have to
feel guilty if they are interested in careers like a "physicist, poets, teacher, or even a political leader" (Friedan). Women should be able to take
opportunities. They should be able to take risks because by going outside their comfort zones, they are actually living and discovering more about
themselves.

Film Analysis : Grease By F. Scott Fitzgerald
In the critically acclaimed musical "Grease", we are introduced to a group of teenagers going through the trials and tribulations of average high school
students in the 1950s. The lead characters of this musical, Danny and Sandy, exhibited the various characteristics and key concepts of the respectable
decade. While this musical and its characters may be quickly written off as super–sexist with outdated ideas of gender, it actually demonstrates in a
subtle way the rise of feminist ideals. A perfect example of this is demonstrated at the end of the musical, at which Sandy trades in her long skirt for a
tight ensemble, although many are quick to write off this even as her changing for a man who symbolizes the patriarchal society, it is ... Show more

Women have constantly been told that their worlds should revolve around their femininity which is in direct relation to how they handle their
responsibilities. Although their roles should not be seen as responsibilities but rather privileges that they should accept with open arms. Those who
were thinking that they wanted more than their simple mundane left were left feeling ashamed as they felt that they should be grateful for having the
stability that comes with having a husband and a home. As more mothers began to slowly open up about their pressures they began to realize that
they were not completely alone. However, despite finding someone who could relate to their pain, the suppression continued as many husbands would
add salt to the wound by exclaiming that their wives should feel blessed that she has the ideal job. Obviously, this constant reminder from husbands
did not make the situations any easier and would often lead housewives to resent their partners, children, and even their lives. By playing the roles of
mother, wife, and upstanding female, women were not given an opportunity to discover who they truly were. Without a proper knowledge of their
identities, there was no way that these homemakers would not feel isolated as they were simply a shadow of their former selves. By constantly

The Pros And Cons Of Women
Working outside of the home was rare for women at a time and was wrong if it was done. Women that did work outside of the home were not taken
seriously being seen as less intelligent than men and less able to cope with stress (Harrington 16). They were "physically and intellectually inferior" so
women weren't usually allowed to face the outside world (Collins 4–5). Women were told if they worked, they would be taking jobs away from men
that needed to support their families, but in reality most women who worked did so to support their families as well (Harrington 17–18). The
unemployment rates surpassed men's 4.7% to 2.8% in the 1960s (Ward 101). It was thought that women had no real ambition to work (Harrington
16). Though it wasn't typical for a women to work, it was said the poor and single women should work until they were married (Chafe 21). Even
then it was a stretch for a woman to work considering single women were seen as prey in the workplace (Nies 15). The usual jobs women were stuck
into were teachers, nurses, and secretaries (Kesselman 31). Even if qualified, women couldn't work high–level federal jobs (Nies 46). A lot of the time,
women wouldn't even receive credit for the jobs they did (Povich 78). Not only were women stuck in jobs they didn't enjoy, but they were also paid
less and were not provided with health or retirement benefits (Harrington 18). They were being denied the right to show potential in what they did and
felt restricted because of it (Senker

Analysis Of ' Archie Andrews ' By John L. Goldwater, Louis...
Archie Andrews. One of the characters where some 35 years old know him and even some 13–year–olds know it? How is this possible? Well back in
the day the day, there used to be something called Archie comics. It was founded in 1939, and many people around America were fans of it because it
featured all types of genres, including but not limited to humor, romance, crime, and adventures. The founder of this innovative comic was John L.
Goldwater, Louis Silberkleit, and Maurice Coyne. Now getting back to this generation's Archie Andrews, which is from the new series Riverdale, a tv
series that came out January 26th, 2017. This was just a copy of the original Archie Comic formed into a tv show. In the comics, Archie was named the

character from Riverdale has their own consistent storyline. He doesn't know about Polly. He doesn't know about his dad and Veronica's parents.
He only heard the gunshot. He is actually involved with Ms. Grundy with her music, his dad, Betty, Veronica, and sometimes Jughead. They just
need to give him more to do. I guess they thought the Grundy storyline was crazy enough to tide him over for some time. But there are no lasting
effects of the relationship with him. This character is often a time shown to be extremely passionate towards music. He has stayed shut of what he

The Second Wave Of Freedom Movement
Since universities did not accept women students, they were denied a college education.
This movement was hard fought. The campaign for women suffrage was met with such fierce opposition that it took 72 years for the women and their
male supporters to finally be successful.
It was on August 19, 1920 that the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution was passed, giving all American women the right to vote. This
victory was just the beginning of fighting for women's rights. This movement led to the second wave of rebellion, because much still needed to be done.
THE SECOND WAVE
The "Second wave" is a time in history that refers to the Women's Liberation Movement. The year, 1963, was marked with great events happening. The
Civil Rights Movement was also taking hold at that time; two great social movements were rising.
The Women's Liberation Movement was thought of as the Second Wave of women seeking reform. Second wave activist fought for sexual and
reproductive rights, but even more importantly fought for equal rights in education and in the workplace. Women felt that again great unfairness and
injustices were placed on women.
One fact that stands out during this time of second wave movement is that the women of the 60s and 70s were daughters of the women who had
joined the workforce during World War II. The women of the 40s and 50s remembered how difficult it was for them and how they were treated after
the war. They felt the discrimination first hand so

Patriarchy: The Oppression Of Women In America
Patriarchy is a term that can be described as male dominance, making women inferior to men. Men and women always played in different roles in
society, which causes controversy if we still live in a patriarchal system today. Men were always seen to be the alpha males and breadwinners of the
family to ensure there was a steady income while women were known to be housewives taking care of the family. Being a woman in America has
brought so much awareness to oppression and how women have been oppressed by men for years. Black women have been oppressed by white
supremacy and they are constantly being stereotyped. "Women are animals, less than human, unable to think like men, born merely to breed and serve
men." Oppression can cause radical conflicts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She argues that being a black woman is much harder, which is absolutely true. Being black and a woman is double the pressure because people
assume black women have attitudes, they are single moms, not educated and people make assumptions like these constantly so it is very stigmatized.
In movies black women are mostly stereotyped as slaves, by producers reinforcing images of what slavery oppression use to be like it shows that
racial discrimination still does exist. A lot of people may not pay attention to these situations because it is overlooked including the equal rights for
black women. "We are often denied opportunities to compete for better jobs because many times these jobs are exclusively reserved for men, or for
whites." Black women now get paid less than white women because of the color of their skin. The question that arises is which makes any gender or
race better than the other. How can we truly determine which race gets a better chance than the other? Generally, women in the past have paved the
way for many generations including this one, but black women were always unnoticed and inferior to white women. White supremacy has oppressed
black people into believing they aren't worth more than housekeepers or slaves to ensure the land was taken of and continued to flourish. Black women
have risen from slavery oppression, but black women still weren't

A Short Story : The Story Of Jughead's Story
"Either way, it's none of your business, Kevin. My life isn't some television show that you can just find entertainment out of. And Archie," he said,
looking at the redheaded boy, "I was starting to think that you actually cared about me and what happened. Obviously, I was wrong. You cared more
about some stupid girl," Jughead stated angrily, his voice cracking, "than you cared about me. I guess that we're really not friends..." Jughead
ignored the other boys' shocked expression as he stormed away, clenching his fists and biting his lip as he desperately tried to salvage what little
dignity he had left. They obviously hadn't seen him come up, but even if they had Jug wasn't sure they would have stopped talking. He had shown up
right after Archie had made the analogy of Jughead to an 8–year–old child throwing a tantrum. That hurt. In all honesty, Jughead didn't feel like he was
being overdramatic. His best friend from birth had ditched him and what could have been the greatest part of their friendship EVER. Jughead felt
awful. And what did he do when he felt awful? Easy. He threw up. Jughead raced to the bathroom, not caring about Kevin or Archie or anyone really,
especially himself. He stuck two fingers down his throat and wiggled them around, pulling them out when he felt bile rise. He threw up into the toilet,
mentally cursing himself. Yeah, this made him feel a lot better, but why did it have to be him? Oh yeah. He deserved it. Jug slowly and shakily stood

Women in the 20th Century
The 1960's was a time period in the United States history that saw an abundance of change for the American people. One of the many changes was
the "sexual revolution", which mainly focused on women. Not only did it focus on the sexual liberation of women, but also the attitude towards
women in corporate America. The sexual revolution was a major turning point on how women were perceived in public, media, and politics.
Throughout the 20th century women had become a political presence. They fought for the civil right of African Americans and were finally being
heard as an organized group. Then women finally started to fight for their own right to vote, and in 1920 it was granted with the 19th amendment.
After women were allowed to vote, and finally got to in the election of 1922, an abundance of women saw themselves as political equals to men. As
a result of this many women started to pursue more professional freedoms, and started to engage in more masculine activities in view of the public
eye. Women started to drink in public, which at the time was illegal due to prohibition. Fashion became more proactive for that time, skirts became
higher, and hair was cut shorter as to blend in with their male counterparts. Women started to smoke as well, and wanted to obtain more sexual
freedom, and to destroy the double standard of men being able to take multiple lovers, which was seen as healthy, but when a woman engaged in this
activity was immoral and evil. With this fight for

Research Paper On Betty Friedan
Betty Friedan: Women's Rights
Women have virtually the same rights as men. However, the fault needing to be recognized in today's society is the way that women are treated.
Even in simple areas, such as jobs, women are put on the back burner. A woman is able to become a CEO of a company, nonetheless, she will
struggle twice as hard as a man would. Even as an employee, women are statistically paid less than men are.
Betty Friedan believed that women should feel and be treated equal to men. Friedan fought for women to embody their power and worth. She was an
activist for the women's rights movement and a founder of the National Organization for Women(NOW). Her book, The Feminine Mystique, connected
with her readers by illustrating the standards that women were put under for decades. In the 60's, women were viewed as nothing but maids and
child–bearers. Many women were hesitant to take a stand for this taboo subject; their own rights. Friedan took initiative when everyone else was afraid
to. Betty Friedan's contribution clearly advanced the progression of women's equality. She accomplished this by writing her famous book, giving a
debatable speech, and founding the National Organization for Women.
Betty Friedan was born in 1921 in Illinois. She attended Smith College and received her degree in psychology. She graduated at age 21. After having
her second child, she lost her job as a reporter. She felt that her life as a house–keeper was not enough for her. Friedan wanted to

It was a crisp cool morning, everything was perfect, except for one person. So as I usually do, I woke up with my 2007 hairstyle sticking straight up.

The Importance Of Happiness In My Life
Sitting under the umbrella, hearing the waves rush to the shore and knowing that it may be months before I would get to be with my friends again, I
realized that I would be ok. My life had changed so much since I had arrived, four months previously. I had come to an understanding that I had wasted
so much time not appreciating the person I was, and focusing on all the things I wasn't, and looking for happiness by trying to please and be like others
thought I should be. I didn't love myself, and I wasn't happy. But here, in St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in our nation, I had a rebirth, of sorts.
I learned that I was enough, as long as I was becoming who I was meant to be, and that being happy was a choice.

She had so many things going on, and so many places to be. It took early mornings and late nights to get everything done. I came to realize that if I
was going to make it, I would have to jump in and get to work. I had to learn 'the ropes' and what I recognized was that these 'ropes' weren't going to
stop and wait for me to catch up.
First there was "Showtime", a singing and performing group that my Aunt owned, and I was to be part of. "Are you kidding? I don't dance and I
certainly don't sing.", at least not in front of a crowd of 1000 people. But, it didn't matter that I thought I couldn't, everyone around me said I could
and I would. Just like the preschool book, "I think I can, I think I can, and then the little train did." I soon saw that, even though I wasn't the best
dancer or singer, and I even had a hard time 'flipping my hair' as part of the choreography, I was good enough. It was similar to learning to surf. I had
to just 'catch the wave'. There were practices on Monday's, performances on Friday's, and the week was never complete without a service project on
Saturday's. "Showtime" was about working together, and being part of something bigger than yourself.
Next came interactions with others and making friends. I noticed that when I wasn't so focused on trying to please everyone, and I looked outside my
small world; I became a more optimistic and happy person. I learned that others wanted to be

Betty Ford and Her Time in Office
In December of 1973, Gerald Ford, who had in the previous year considered retirement from politics, was appointed as Vice President under Richard
Nixon, after Vice President Spiro Angew forcibly resigned. On August 9, 1974, in an unprecedented move, Richard Nixon resigned from Presidential
office under the political and social pressure of the captivating Watergate scandal. In this torrential turn of circumstances, under United States law,
Gerald Ford became the 38th President of the United States and Betty Ford was officially the First Lady. Soon, it became apparent that the new First
Lady was going to make an impact. When Betty became First Lady at age 54, America was expecting a continuation of the status quo: caring for
Jerry as a political housewife and, like the modest Pat Nixon, hosting luncheons and visiting hospitals, schools, and orphanages. Like many First
Ladies before her, Pat had valued her popular image as a model middle–class homemaker, supportive wife and devoted mother, and she had often been
portrayed as the quintessential traditionalist in stark relief to the rising persona of the "liberated woman" (Perlstein). Sharply reversing this trend of
conservative traditionalism, Betty chose instead to embody the values of this new generation of liberated women and to embrace many socially taboo
issues with openness. As First Lady and cohort to President Gerald Ford (1974–1977), Betty Ford used candor and her national power to influence the
controversial topics of

Betty Friedan's Feminine Mystique : The Importance Of Work
In her Feminine Mystique essay, "The Importance of Work", writer Betty Friedan talks about how the identity crisis of American women beginning
about a century ago. More and more of the work that was used by human abilities in which they could find self–realization that was taken from women.
The identity crisis for women did not begin in America until the fire, strength, and ability of the pioneer women were no longer needed. Women today
whom feel that they have no goal, purpose, or future will commit suicide. Betty Friedan attempts to explain the causes of women's unhappiness as she
tags it, "the problem that has no name". (Friedan, pg.790, 1963) Friedan's rhetoric in the essay is constructed and based upon three persuasive
techniques, which are known as ethos, pathos, and logos. In her essay, her main goal was to bring about how successful her approach in determining
the role of women in society. She did an excellent job at defending her argument with facts from history to back it up. Friedan shows how statistics
show that American women were taken away from full human capacity growth by the social ethos that came about in that time. Her word choice,
which was chosen wisely, increased the compatibly with her ideas and opinions.... Maslow's hierarchy of needs, was used to show what is the most
important need to have to the least important need, and she felt that women didn't have any. Friedan also uses Sigmund Freud, a psychologist, by

The Relationship Between Riverdale And Gilgamesh
Death and grief are common themes in literature and entertainment as a result of their presence throughout history. These themes create a tie between
the most ancient texts and modern pop culture. An example of this is Gilgamesh and Riverdale. In the ancient Sumerian narrative, Gilgamesh by
Herbert Mason, Gilgamesh, a ruthless king deals with the death of his newfound friend, Enkidu. Before, Gilgamesh did not care for his people. He
forced brides to sleep with him, and did not take care of the great walls his subjects took so long to make. On the other hand, Enkidu grew up in the
forest with the animals, and learned to protect and respect all beings. Both maintained their strength and friendship until Enkidu reached his disastrous
fate. In the modern TV show, Riverdale by Rob Seidenglanz, Cheryl Blossom grieves for her twin brother, Jason. The two were inseparable from
birth, and their entire town was aware. Similarly to Gilgamesh, Cheryl was unsympathetic and disliked by her peers. Jason, like Enkidu, was more
responsible and compassionate. In both Gilgamesh and Riverdale, characters learn to cope with the loss of a meaningful person in their life and
ultimately experience change as a result.
The friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, as well as the attachment between Cheryl Blossom and her brother, Jason, is what makes their deaths
so important. Gilgamesh and Enkidu's bond first influences their actions on their journey together, "Enkidu was afraid of the forest of

Modern Day Heroes Essay
Modern day heroes can be very important. These heroes importance on americans is that they help us, the people in many different ways like
physically and mentally/ vocally. These heroes empower common people to do better. these heroes importance to the world is greatest, they help us to
be better (and make the world better) and learn from them. So with these three thing Modern day Heroes better our world and we would be nothing
without them.
To explain my point, The importance of modern day heroes on Americans are they help us. In passage 1 there's a modern day hero namedBetty Ford,
Betty was the first lady and she had breast cancer. Betty opened up about her cancer and told lady's to be safe and check to to see if they are ok. Betty
Ford in a way helped the people physically by making them go to the doctor, this could have saved people– they could have caught the cancer before it
was too late. According to Betty Ford: A New Kind of First Lady "Checkups increased by 300 to 400 percent". I put this quote to show how Betty
Ford is so inspiring she had womans wanted to be sure they were alright and there's a good chance some of those people in that percent might have
had breast cancer, so Betty Ford might have just saved there life. Modern day heroes affect Americans mentally/ vocally by speaking up and taking a
stand. In passage 2 the author spoke up about violence by involving modern day heroes. Jonah Goldberg (THE AUTHOR) stood up for this one girl

Case Study of Betty Ford Substances, such as alcohol, are used for a variety of different reasons. Alcohol is often used as a way to celebrate a special
occasion. It can also be used to help an individual "take the edge off" when he or she is feeling overwhelmed. Many individuals use alcohol when

She began experiencing a variety of physical and psychological health problems which also affected how she felt. Some of these health problems
included reoccurring pain in her neck from a previously pinched nerve, emotional fatigue, and the diagnoses of breast cancer (of which she became
a strong advocate). To ease the pain she was feeling, Betty would be prescribed a variety of medications of which she eventually grew a tolerance to.
In addition to the medications, Betty would increase the amount of alcohol she was drinking in an attempt to comfort her pain. After their departure
from the White House, Betty and Jerry moved to California where Betty began to feel more and more isolated and alone. At this point, Betty's
children were all grown up and living on their own and Jerry kept himself busy by continuing his engagements in political activities. Betty became
more dependent on prescription medications and alcohol to relieve her pain and depression and also less involved in the social arena. After realizing
the full extent of her illness and addictions, her family intervened, and eventually they were able to convince Betty to seek treatment.

Narrative Essay About Mickey Mouse
I remember the event like it was yesterday; my heart was beating and I could hear and feel it, I had determination on my face and in my mind and
it felt good. My determination was to beat my younger brother to the top of the tree in our side yard. I almost never climb the trees in our yard for
the fear of falling out; which has happened before when we went apple picking which did not end well on my part of climbing in those apple trees.
But we were getting ready that nice sunny morning in the summer. I remember the nice sunshine and heat on my face and the cool winds coming from
the East and it was just exhilarating. I told my brother Michael "I bet you five bucks you can't beat me to the top of that tree!" pointing at one in the
yard. I knew he would do it because he would want the money and he always wanted to one up me.
So we were setting up and talking smack to one another, names being changed to something else although I deflected all of his I came up with the
nickname of Mickey Mouse. Funny thing is that nickname stuck around through that day and not his real name Michael. So we are all prepared to
do it and we are at the bottom of the tree. I noticed that there was a cinder block at the bottom of the tree and I said "Mickey better not fall on that.".
And that was a dumb thing to say as to I should have just moved it so there was no possible way it could happen. But I was just a fifth grader who did

How The Rights Of Women Have Changed Since The 1960s And...
As you know many things have changed since the 1960s and 1970s. For instance, women's rights. Women rights have come a long way in education,
work, family life, politics, and sports. But I am writing to remind you the importance in women's work force. Women have always in a general
manner...been under appreciated. It seemed however that sometimes needs made men realize or potential. You see during world war 2, nearly all
women worked...this was directly related to the fact that men where away at war. Women worked both hard labor, and intelligent jobs. After they
returned; women gave up their jobs and let men take over. Most women enjoyed the thought of a house life, but I don't think most knew exactly what
they were getting themselves into. Women... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had a job, although some men seemed to be uncomfortable with the idea. Some businesses only allowed women as secretary. Now I am not sure
about today, but I do know it is still rising. Now our family even though it is 2017 and women have equal rights...many don't grasp those rights as
they should. Some people don't find the importance, but if they did not have the option I believe they would. I am old fashioned. I can and will be
the first in line. I know the importance, and hope you learn. Most of our family's females are do not work, unfortanilly they just marry and raise
children...sound familiar. You now have the opportunity to grow up, finish your schooling, college, and get a great job. You can teach, discover....
run for president. You don't have a limit to what you do. Today, we are considered equals to men in society. But even today you can find those few
suborn raised individuals that never seem to grasp that concept. I don't think they ever will. That is why it is important to always remember, so we

Essay On Polyphemus And Julfus
Polyphemus, one of the most famous archetypes of the Cyclops' of ancient Greek mythology, and Bruce Banner, The Hulk from the Marvel film, have
made an impact in history with the incredible characteristics they both possess. Although both characters were written in different time periods
throughout history, their commonalities are reflected within their personalities. Despite the drastic differences in both their settings, they still manage
to show heroism throughout their numerous conflicts. In order to surpass such trials, both characters make use of their natural instincts to survive.

Furthermore, when left blind by Odysseus, Polyphemus is determined to pursue his enemies by commanding his father to chastise the men. Thus,

barbaric instincts when aggravated. The Hulk is transformed "into an enormous gray–skinned monster with virtually limitless strength and destructive
capability; it embodies the darkest, angriest, and most antisocial aspects of Banner's personality" (Sanderson Web). The Hulk's uncontrolled and
uncivilized temperament facilitates his transformation which enables him to become an untamed, ferocious beast. The only way that he is able to
withdraw an enormous amount of strength is when aggravated by an enemy. Whether the Hulk is at its peak, regarding his fighting ability, always
depends on his stress levels. The more stress that he endures, the more strength he exerts which in turn makes him a deadly force. Both Polyphemus
and Hulk, when being threatened, tend to portray defensive impulses that bring about their barbaric ways.
By the same token, these characters also retain incredible abilities that demonstrate their extreme strength and power. Polyphemus' cruelty and
bloodthirst empowers him to exhibit his "extraordinary strength and... excellent fighting skills" (Asrani

The Roles Of Eleanor Roosevelt And Betty Ford
Throughout history, First Ladies have shaped the U.S. with their husbands and some have inspired their husband's policies. Many First Ladies
supported their husbands and have spoken alongside the President. Eleanor Roosevelt and Betty Ford have left behind powerful, political legacies and
used their voices to campaign for others. They are two of the most prominent First Ladies, who have redefined their positions during their terms.
Eleanor Roosevelt is one of the most influential and powerful woman during the twentieth century. She was a pioneering first lady, who spoke out on
social issues and advocated for many causes, during a time when First Ladies were expected to be silent supporters of their husbands. Franklin D.
Roosevelt and Eleanor married in March 1905 and had five children together ("Eleanor Roosevelt"). In 1921, Franklin Roosevelt was infected with
polio which left him paralyzed from the waist down ("Eleanor Roosevelt"). Eleanor helped look after Franklin and after a couple of years he was
ready to enter politics. Eleanor soon began advocating for, "...the League of Women Voters, the National Consumers' League, the Women's Trade
Union League, and the women's division of the New York State Democratic Committee" ("Eleanor Roosevelt"). While Franklin Roosevelt was

"Snickers" used Betty White in one of the "You're not you when you're hungry" campaigns. "Old Spice" also participated in the celebrity trend, using
Terry Crews in many of the "Smell is Power" commercials. Even Neil Patrick–Harris, a comedian who starred in How I Met Your Mother, is partnered

"My audience was my life. What I did and how I did it, was all for my audience", these words came from the well known and never forgotten Cab
Calloway. His style and mix of blues, swing and scat spread like wildfire and filled many peoples lives with joy, excitement and happiness. Cab
Calloway broke the boundaries of racial barriers and become a very popular and influential household name. As stated in the Jazz Profiles from NPR, "
A truly "larger than life" figure in American pop culture...Calloway also led one of the greatest bands of the Swing Era" (Ossman).
Cab Calloway arose from an era where racism against black jazz musicians was present and drug addiction seemed to consume the majority of these
musicians ' lives. It was no surprise that Cab Calloway pursued a career as an entertainer. He grew up in a family that consisted of musicians and
performers, although it was expected that he would follow in his fathers foot steps and become a lawyer. Around the mid to late 1920s Cab Calloway
assembled his own band and they were known as the Alabamians. Although his time with the Alabamians was short lived, he eventually became
bandleader of a big band called the Missourians. Cab Calloway and the Missourians became an instant hit and sensation. They performed in popular
clubs such as Savoy Theater and The Cotton Club. As stated in the article Cab Calloway and The Cotton Club written by Kinsley Suer, "Cab quickly

Bad Girl Film Analysis
The American Cinema of the 1950s can be noted for its various portrayals of masculinity and dominating consumer culture geared toward male
gender. Arguably hidden behind punks and gangsters was a class of defiant girls who subverted the gender ideals of the time and are evidenced
through a series of "Bad Girl" films. The bad girl film cycle is one of the latter trends of the '50s Social Problem film and an examination of this cycle
will provide theoretical speculation regarding its influence on the rise of the Second Wave Feminist Movement.
In order to examine the potential influence of these films and the topicality of bad girl representation during the 1950s scare of juvenile delinquency,
the following lines of inquiry will be explored:
1.An examination of the evolution of female representation in various film genres of the 1950s highlighting the commonly subservient role of female
characters and the gender roles perpetuated through texts of this decade.
2.Next, I will reiterate the "Social Problem" film and the scare of juvenile delinquency during the 1950s. I will introduce the bad girl film genre in more
detail, expanding the tropes/motifs of this cycle, and demonstrates how this genre can be subcategorized as a social problem film.
3.In order to understand the contention surrounding the bad girl films and its context in 1950s society, I will discuss the American Dream ideology of
the time, primarily through its portrayal on television. We can note the struggle

The Feminine Mystique By Betty Friedan
In the book The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan brings attention to what she calls the feminine mystique, or "the problem that has no name".
Through the use of anecdotal narratives, her own personal experiences as a journalist, editor, mother, and the interviews of many women from different
backgrounds in order to unveil the truth about the women of the 1950's. The problem which sparked the second wave of feminism in the United States
is one that focuses on the inequality between men and women and the undervaluing of women in both the social and private spheres. The women of
the time gave up pursuing their passions, such as getting an education or careers in science or business in order to fit the image of the stereotypical
stay–at–home mom whose main goal in life is to raise her children while providing a safe and comforting home for her husband. The Feminine
Mystique, as she called it, was the idea of widespread unhappiness of women, despite the preconceived notion that women were happiest when they
have a family. Throughout her work, she dives into many of the problems associated with the feminine mystique and builds a powerful concept of what
would eventually be labeled feminism.
Friedan begins by pointing out how during the 1950's the average age of women when they married was getting younger and younger, and how
birthrates among these women were increasing. One would believe that this would lead to an increase of happiness because the general population of

Feminism : A Consciousness Of Women 's Social And Economic...
"For me, now, feminist art must show a consciousness of women 's social and economic position in the world. I also believe it demonstrates forms
and perceptions that are drawn from a sense of spiritual kinship between women" (theartstory.org) are the words of artist, Suzanne Lacy. In a world
where men are looked at as superior, feminism is an incredibly important movement in the eyes of a woman. All of the feelings and emotions that
have manifested within women throughout the years, are able to be expressed through feminism. The impact of this movement has lasted over
decades and gives women the power to stick together and fight for what they believe in. The feminist movement of the 1960's was represented
through, The Sculpture II by Kirsten Justesen, and by the song, "You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore. Looking through history, feminism can be
traced all the way back to the revolutionary war. In this time, women went as far as dressing as men in order to fight for their country and what they
believe in. Later on, it is presented during the time of the Women's Suffrage movement, allowing women to vote with the 19th Amendment. Although
women always found ways to fight back against society, feminism was never an actual developed idea. It only began in the early 1960's that women
really started questioning why they were so inferior to men. Women weren 't allowed to have much of an opinion before the sixties; if they dared to
say what they thought it would be considered absurd.

Women And Ideal Characteristics Of Femininity
According to The Broadview Anthology of British Literature, "There was much debate concerning the proper place of women and the ideal
characteristics of femininity throughout the nineteenth century." The Victorian Era officially followed the reign of Queen Victoria in England from
1837 to 1901, but the era is not so rigidly set. The ideologies, values, and mores associated with the Victorian era were present before Queen
Victoria, and then followed into America and also lived sixty years past its recorded date of death. In the 1950s and 60s, the idea of femininity was
still being explored, just as it was a century prior in another country. Betty Friedan's The Feminine Mystique, written in 1963, provides a name for the

The society in which Friedan describes and the thoughts of Allen parallel each other: to be feminine is to mother children and to marry a man.
Deviating from this neatly structured plan for a woman's obligation is to become unfeminine. Esther Greenwood is a woman of the 1950s who
goes against the belief that women should marry; in fact, she declares, "I'm never going to get married" (Plath 93) while being proposed to by
Buddy Willard. In the Victorian Era, it was largely men who grappled with the questioning and answering of the desires and needs of women, and in
the 1960s, the patriarchal society determined the woman's role. In her novel, Plath specifically points out the flaw in the system: men are not
women, so they cannot accurately govern their needs or wants. After Esther's rejection of Buddy, he claims, "You're crazy. You'll change your mind"
(93). In another scene, Esther recalls, "I also remember Buddy Willard saying in a sinister, knowing way that after I had children I wouldn't want to
write anymore" (85). Buddy's predictions about Esther's future align with the "correct" attitudes for women of the time. Moreover, his decidedly
"knowing" her needs and wants is indicative of his inner feeling of superiority over her: because he is of the dominant sex, his telling Esther how to
feel is justified. In setting up men to be the dominant sex, men become the

Riverdale Character Analysis
Riverdale is an American television program that is based primarily on the Archie comics which were first released in the 1940's. The comics focus
largely on a love triangle between the three main characters, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Archie Andrews. Unlike the television show, Betty
and Veronica see one another as frenemies and are constantly at odds over Archie, who is never at fault for any of the mishaps that happen. TheArchie
comics were never big advocates of feminism and instead focused primarily on Archie and the two female characters invented to fight over him,
cementing the idea that girls are only around to win boys affection. In contrast, Riverdale the television show focuses on Betty and Veronica as friends
instead of frenemies and builds upon the idea that girls are smart, capable, and are stronger when they work together. The new television spin on the
original comics brings together the old characters and main plot points and puts an innovative feminist attitude towards them to mesh them with the
beliefs and issues of today's society. The characters in this show are much more than the typical jock, nerd, good, bad stereotypes that are commonly
depicted in teenage dramas viewed on the television today. The women of Riverdale prove that for positive change to take place, friendship must take
precedent and sticking together as girls is the most important aspect of driving forward social change. In the series premiere, the audience is first

The Femenine Mystique and Feminist Theory: From Margin to...
In the books The Feminine Mystique and Feminist Theory: From Margin to Theory all focus on Feminism. Feminism is a work of movements;
theories and ideas all aimed to define, establish equal rights for women. Feminism came in three different waves, 1. The Suffrage, 2) Woman's
liberation movement, and 3) was a continuation of the second wave and its accomplishments and failures. Both of the books focus on the second wave
of feminism and take us on a journey on how woman, black and white, survived the ninetieth and twentieth century.
In the Book, Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan begins to explain the different shifts of women's thinking when it came to "her place." In the fifties,
many of the times, the women were the cookie cutter homemakers. These women focused on nothing but pleasing their husbands and children. These
women used all of their time and energy on having a clean home, food on the table, multiple children, and a martini ready for their husband when he
walked in the door. Women were looking to find a degree or have a career for themselves; Friedan said that many of the times, women went to college
to find their MRS degree. The women back in time were living in a man's world; another concern for Friedan was the fact that men created the
magazines women were reading. This showed that women could not escape a man's wants or needs. These magazines impressions were brainwashing
to the women seeing that they did not understand anything else. A theme that I caught

as a group and changing their lives of countless men and women. Gender, Ideology, and Historical Change: Explaining the Women's Movement was a
great chapter because it explained and analyzed the change and causes of the women's movement. Elaine Tyler May's essay,Cold War Ideology and the

In her essay she relates the rise of feminist consciousness in the 1960s to numerous changes in American society, especially the rise of other protest
movements. Echols said, "On September 7, 1968, the sixties came to that most apple–pie of American institutions, the Miss America Pageant" (Echols,
308). The reason she said this was because one hundred women's liberation activists descended upon Atlantic City to protest the pageant's promotion of
physical attractiveness as the primary measure of women's worth. From there, the protestors set up a "Freedom Trash Can" and filled it with
high–heeled shoes, bras, girdles, hair curlers, false eyelashes, typing books, and representative copies of Cosmopolitan, Playboy, and Ladies Home
Journal. They wanted to burn the contents but couldn't because of the laws for bonfires on the boardwalk. Also, word had been leaked to the press
that there would be a symbolic bra–burning. However, there were no bras burnt that day. But the image of the bra–burning, militant feminists remains
part of our popular mythology about the women's liberation movement. The Miss America demonstration represents an important moment in the
history of the sixties as well as the women's movement (Echols, 309–310). Although the women's liberation movement only began to take shape toward
the end of the decade, it was a quintessentially sixties movement. The women's liberation movement alone carried on and extended into the 1970s that

Analysis Of The Incredible Hulk

  • 1. Analysis Of The Incredible Hulk The Incredible Hulk is a fiction movie released on June 8, 2008. The movie was produced by Marvel Studios and Valhalla Motion Pictures. The film took place mostly in Toronto, Canada. The director of the movie is Louis Leterrier. The movie is about a person named Bruce Banner who transforms into a beast called the Hulk, a huge green monster with a muscular body. The transformation is caused by a disease that contaminated Banner's cells. The transformation happens whenever Banner gets angry. However, the anger goes away when the Hulk sees that there is no danger around him. The anger goes away whenever his love, Betty Ross touches him. Banner searches the world to find a cure for his disease, but the military keeps blocking his way because they want his power to create an army just like the Hulk. New threats appear trying to use the masculinity in order to achieve whatever needed. In addition, the Hulk faces his nemesis called The Abomination. It is also a green monster that literally has similar powers as the Hulk. The Hulk character embodies a larger tension with our culture's relation to masculinity. On one hand, it condemns the destruction and violence associated with masculinity, and on the other, it celebrates it. The film can be viewed as having mixed messages for boys because it provides unrealistic masculinity that represents good and bad manners. The film represents violence of destruction as associated with masculinity, and it shows this as a negative attitude, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Feminist Analysis : Betty Friedan Betty Friedan explores the troubles that women have faced and the reason behind these troubles in The Feminine Mystique. She defines the "feminine mystique" as a limitation set on women's femininity across America in the 1950s and early 1960s. She explains how she believes it came to be so widely upheld due to magazines written by men and how it has had an effect on women in a negative way. According to Friedan, due tothe feminine mystique developed from magazine stories, society forces women to abandon any career aspirations in order to devote their lives to being housewives and mothers, as well as be completely fulfilled with this life path. Friedan describes the feminine mystique as the pressures and limitations set on women's femininity. She states, " the feminine mystique says that the highest value and the only commitment for women is the fulfillment of their own femininity" (Friedan 35). Society has reverted back to the the image that women were thought to be before they had equal rights. The women before this time had fought so hard to be equals in society as men, yet the ideals a woman must uphold were the same. It was not acceptable for a woman to do anything of a male 's role or she would be undermining her femininity. Feminity at this time was only seen as cooking, cleaning, washing, and providing babies. To be any different than this was seen as masculine. Making money was manly. Being independent was manly. Leaving the house was manly. Friedan claims that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Feminism And The Second Wave Of Feminism Any given person can define feminism in a different way. Some view it as a women's movement for women, by women and against men. It can also be hard to distinguish the different types of feminism when the more radical, outspoken people or organizations can overshadow the rest. In general, feminism is another way in which to view things, another lens in which to see the world. It is another platform for people to express themselves as whole individuals and become a voice for others that may otherwise remain unheard. Feminism as a whole takes a look at social constructs and gender norms and begins to deconstruct them to create an environment that is equal and accepting of all persons. In the second wave of feminism, many women began to break out of the roles as housewives and mothers and speak up for equality. Gloria Steinem is among many of the influential women who took the world by storm with their radical ideas of feminism and challenge the ideals that society had set forth for post–war women of the time. Before joining Bella Abzug and Betty Friedan in the formation of the National Women's Politic Caucus, Gloria Steinem was taking care of her divorced, mentally ill mother in Toledo, Ohio. Steinem spent six years caring for her mother before she left for Smith College where she obtained a degree in government, a choice that was non–traditional for a woman at the time. After establishing herself as a freelance writer, Steinem worked for Show magazine until she was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Women 's Role For Women In the 1950's, women truly believed they were living the life. Every day, they would do chores like making beds and clean up after her children. All their "desires are to glory in their own feminity" (Friedan). They believed that to be the best wife is to please their husband and should only be "concerned only about her husband and children" (Friedan). Even though women assumed they were being an ideal wife and mother, their role should not define who they are as women because they should not feel restricted, women should be able to empower other women, and women are made for much greater purposes. Women were "taught to pity the unfeminine" (Friedan). They thought that "true feminine women don't want careers, higher education, or political rights" (Friedan). Women should not have to feel restricted and identify themselves as a housewife/mother. Women should have their own ambitions other than being a housewife/mother. By having ambitions, women are constantly pursuing of what they want to achieve. They should not feel content of what they are doing right now because women are made for so much more than just being a housewife/mother. They should not have to feel guilty if they are interested in careers like a "physicist, poets, teacher, or even a political leader" (Friedan). Women should be able to take opportunities. They should be able to take risks because by going outside their comfort zones, they are actually living and discovering more about themselves. Furthermore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Film Analysis : Grease By F. Scott Fitzgerald In the critically acclaimed musical "Grease", we are introduced to a group of teenagers going through the trials and tribulations of average high school students in the 1950s. The lead characters of this musical, Danny and Sandy, exhibited the various characteristics and key concepts of the respectable decade. While this musical and its characters may be quickly written off as super–sexist with outdated ideas of gender, it actually demonstrates in a subtle way the rise of feminist ideals. A perfect example of this is demonstrated at the end of the musical, at which Sandy trades in her long skirt for a tight ensemble, although many are quick to write off this even as her changing for a man who symbolizes the patriarchal society, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women have constantly been told that their worlds should revolve around their femininity which is in direct relation to how they handle their responsibilities. Although their roles should not be seen as responsibilities but rather privileges that they should accept with open arms. Those who were thinking that they wanted more than their simple mundane left were left feeling ashamed as they felt that they should be grateful for having the stability that comes with having a husband and a home. As more mothers began to slowly open up about their pressures they began to realize that they were not completely alone. However, despite finding someone who could relate to their pain, the suppression continued as many husbands would add salt to the wound by exclaiming that their wives should feel blessed that she has the ideal job. Obviously, this constant reminder from husbands did not make the situations any easier and would often lead housewives to resent their partners, children, and even their lives. By playing the roles of mother, wife, and upstanding female, women were not given an opportunity to discover who they truly were. Without a proper knowledge of their identities, there was no way that these homemakers would not feel isolated as they were simply a shadow of their former selves. By constantly ... • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Women Working outside of the home was rare for women at a time and was wrong if it was done. Women that did work outside of the home were not taken seriously being seen as less intelligent than men and less able to cope with stress (Harrington 16). They were "physically and intellectually inferior" so women weren't usually allowed to face the outside world (Collins 4–5). Women were told if they worked, they would be taking jobs away from men that needed to support their families, but in reality most women who worked did so to support their families as well (Harrington 17–18). The unemployment rates surpassed men's 4.7% to 2.8% in the 1960s (Ward 101). It was thought that women had no real ambition to work (Harrington 16). Though it wasn't typical for a women to work, it was said the poor and single women should work until they were married (Chafe 21). Even then it was a stretch for a woman to work considering single women were seen as prey in the workplace (Nies 15). The usual jobs women were stuck into were teachers, nurses, and secretaries (Kesselman 31). Even if qualified, women couldn't work high–level federal jobs (Nies 46). A lot of the time, women wouldn't even receive credit for the jobs they did (Povich 78). Not only were women stuck in jobs they didn't enjoy, but they were also paid less and were not provided with health or retirement benefits (Harrington 18). They were being denied the right to show potential in what they did and felt restricted because of it (Senker ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of ' Archie Andrews ' By John L. Goldwater, Louis... Archie Andrews. One of the characters where some 35 years old know him and even some 13–year–olds know it? How is this possible? Well back in the day the day, there used to be something called Archie comics. It was founded in 1939, and many people around America were fans of it because it featured all types of genres, including but not limited to humor, romance, crime, and adventures. The founder of this innovative comic was John L. Goldwater, Louis Silberkleit, and Maurice Coyne. Now getting back to this generation's Archie Andrews, which is from the new series Riverdale, a tv series that came out January 26th, 2017. This was just a copy of the original Archie Comic formed into a tv show. In the comics, Archie was named the "typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This version is the most changed. He is generally calm, but he does get annoyed when he is trying to do the right thing and someone stops him. He must be 15 or 16 years old because he is studying as a high school sophomore. I feel that he is sort of expendable because every other character from Riverdale has their own consistent storyline. He doesn't know about Polly. He doesn't know about his dad and Veronica's parents. He only heard the gunshot. He is actually involved with Ms. Grundy with her music, his dad, Betty, Veronica, and sometimes Jughead. They just need to give him more to do. I guess they thought the Grundy storyline was crazy enough to tide him over for some time. But there are no lasting effects of the relationship with him. This character is often a time shown to be extremely passionate towards music. He has stayed shut of what he heard a gunshot on the 4th of July just so they Ms. Grundy doesn't stop his music classes. He takes help of Valerie, a girl in one of the famous band in the town of Riverdale. When she tells him about a music teacher shes got in mind. He goes directly to him for extra help. • 8. The Second Wave Of Freedom Movement Since universities did not accept women students, they were denied a college education. This movement was hard fought. The campaign for women suffrage was met with such fierce opposition that it took 72 years for the women and their male supporters to finally be successful. It was on August 19, 1920 that the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution was passed, giving all American women the right to vote. This victory was just the beginning of fighting for women's rights. This movement led to the second wave of rebellion, because much still needed to be done. THE SECOND WAVE The "Second wave" is a time in history that refers to the Women's Liberation Movement. The year, 1963, was marked with great events happening. The Civil Rights Movement was also taking hold at that time; two great social movements were rising. The Women's Liberation Movement was thought of as the Second Wave of women seeking reform. Second wave activist fought for sexual and reproductive rights, but even more importantly fought for equal rights in education and in the workplace. Women felt that again great unfairness and injustices were placed on women. One fact that stands out during this time of second wave movement is that the women of the 60s and 70s were daughters of the women who had joined the workforce during World War II. The women of the 40s and 50s remembered how difficult it was for them and how they were treated after the war. They felt the discrimination first hand so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Patriarchy: The Oppression Of Women In America Patriarchy is a term that can be described as male dominance, making women inferior to men. Men and women always played in different roles in society, which causes controversy if we still live in a patriarchal system today. Men were always seen to be the alpha males and breadwinners of the family to ensure there was a steady income while women were known to be housewives taking care of the family. Being a woman in America has brought so much awareness to oppression and how women have been oppressed by men for years. Black women have been oppressed by white supremacy and they are constantly being stereotyped. "Women are animals, less than human, unable to think like men, born merely to breed and serve men." Oppression can cause radical conflicts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She argues that being a black woman is much harder, which is absolutely true. Being black and a woman is double the pressure because people assume black women have attitudes, they are single moms, not educated and people make assumptions like these constantly so it is very stigmatized. In movies black women are mostly stereotyped as slaves, by producers reinforcing images of what slavery oppression use to be like it shows that racial discrimination still does exist. A lot of people may not pay attention to these situations because it is overlooked including the equal rights for black women. "We are often denied opportunities to compete for better jobs because many times these jobs are exclusively reserved for men, or for whites." Black women now get paid less than white women because of the color of their skin. The question that arises is which makes any gender or race better than the other. How can we truly determine which race gets a better chance than the other? Generally, women in the past have paved the way for many generations including this one, but black women were always unnoticed and inferior to white women. White supremacy has oppressed black people into believing they aren't worth more than housekeepers or slaves to ensure the land was taken of and continued to flourish. Black women have risen from slavery oppression, but black women still weren't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. A Short Story : The Story Of Jughead's Story "Either way, it's none of your business, Kevin. My life isn't some television show that you can just find entertainment out of. And Archie," he said, looking at the redheaded boy, "I was starting to think that you actually cared about me and what happened. Obviously, I was wrong. You cared more about some stupid girl," Jughead stated angrily, his voice cracking, "than you cared about me. I guess that we're really not friends..." Jughead ignored the other boys' shocked expression as he stormed away, clenching his fists and biting his lip as he desperately tried to salvage what little dignity he had left. They obviously hadn't seen him come up, but even if they had Jug wasn't sure they would have stopped talking. He had shown up right after Archie had made the analogy of Jughead to an 8–year–old child throwing a tantrum. That hurt. In all honesty, Jughead didn't feel like he was being overdramatic. His best friend from birth had ditched him and what could have been the greatest part of their friendship EVER. Jughead felt awful. And what did he do when he felt awful? Easy. He threw up. Jughead raced to the bathroom, not caring about Kevin or Archie or anyone really, especially himself. He stuck two fingers down his throat and wiggled them around, pulling them out when he felt bile rise. He threw up into the toilet, mentally cursing himself. Yeah, this made him feel a lot better, but why did it have to be him? Oh yeah. He deserved it. Jug slowly and shakily stood up. He still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Women in the 20th Century The 1960's was a time period in the United States history that saw an abundance of change for the American people. One of the many changes was the "sexual revolution", which mainly focused on women. Not only did it focus on the sexual liberation of women, but also the attitude towards women in corporate America. The sexual revolution was a major turning point on how women were perceived in public, media, and politics. Throughout the 20th century women had become a political presence. They fought for the civil right of African Americans and were finally being heard as an organized group. Then women finally started to fight for their own right to vote, and in 1920 it was granted with the 19th amendment. After women were allowed to vote, and finally got to in the election of 1922, an abundance of women saw themselves as political equals to men. As a result of this many women started to pursue more professional freedoms, and started to engage in more masculine activities in view of the public eye. Women started to drink in public, which at the time was illegal due to prohibition. Fashion became more proactive for that time, skirts became higher, and hair was cut shorter as to blend in with their male counterparts. Women started to smoke as well, and wanted to obtain more sexual freedom, and to destroy the double standard of men being able to take multiple lovers, which was seen as healthy, but when a woman engaged in this activity was immoral and evil. • 13. Research Paper On Betty Friedan Betty Friedan: Women's Rights Women have virtually the same rights as men. However, the fault needing to be recognized in today's society is the way that women are treated. Even in simple areas, such as jobs, women are put on the back burner. A woman is able to become a CEO of a company, nonetheless, she will struggle twice as hard as a man would. Even as an employee, women are statistically paid less than men are. Betty Friedan believed that women should feel and be treated equal to men. Friedan fought for women to embody their power and worth. She was an activist for the women's rights movement and a founder of the National Organization for Women(NOW). Her book, The Feminine Mystique, connected with her readers by illustrating the standards that women were put under for decades. In the 60's, women were viewed as nothing but maids and child–bearers. Many women were hesitant to take a stand for this taboo subject; their own rights. Friedan took initiative when everyone else was afraid to. Betty Friedan's contribution clearly advanced the progression of women's equality. She accomplished this by writing her famous book, giving a debatable speech, and founding the National Organization for Women. Betty Friedan was born in 1921 in Illinois. She attended Smith College and received her degree in psychology. She graduated at age 21. After having her second child, she lost her job as a reporter. "Ugh great, what a beautiful morning, can't wait to hike up Harney Peak!" Shaelyn moaned. Oh yeah did I mention that we are going to Harney Peak today? Anyways as I was saying, my sister Kayla and I got out of bed and raced to the shower to see who would have to have to use cold water. I would have screamed at her but I was too busy wondering what that amazing smell was. Guessing that my grandma made pancakes before we go, which is radical. • 15. The Importance Of Happiness In My Life Sitting under the umbrella, hearing the waves rush to the shore and knowing that it may be months before I would get to be with my friends again, I realized that I would be ok. My life had changed so much since I had arrived, four months previously. I had come to an understanding that I had wasted so much time not appreciating the person I was, and focusing on all the things I wasn't, and looking for happiness by trying to please and be like others thought I should be. I didn't love myself, and I wasn't happy. But here, in St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in our nation, I had a rebirth, of sorts. I don't dance and I certainly don't sing.", at least not in front of a crowd of 1000 people. But, it didn't matter that I thought I couldn't, everyone around me said I could and I would. Just like the preschool book, "I think I can, I think I can, and then the little train did." I soon saw that, even though I wasn't the best dancer or singer, and I even had a hard time 'flipping my hair' as part of the choreography, I was good enough. It was similar to learning to surf. I had to just 'catch the wave'. There were practices on Monday's, performances on Friday's, and the week was never complete without a service project on Saturday's. "Showtime" was about working together, and being part of something bigger than yourself. Next came interactions with others and making friends. Betty Ford and Her Time in Office In December of 1973, Gerald Ford, who had in the previous year considered retirement from politics, was appointed as Vice President under Richard Nixon, after Vice President Spiro Angew forcibly resigned. On August 9, 1974, in an unprecedented move, Richard Nixon resigned from Presidential office under the political and social pressure of the captivating Watergate scandal. In this torrential turn of circumstances, under United States law, Gerald Ford became the 38th President of the United States and Betty Ford was officially the First Lady. Soon, it became apparent that the new First Lady was going to make an impact. When Betty became First Lady at age 54, America was expecting a continuation of the status quo: caring for Jerry as a political housewife and, like the modest Pat Nixon, hosting luncheons and visiting hospitals, schools, and orphanages. Like many First Ladies before her, Pat had valued her popular image as a model middle–class homemaker, supportive wife and devoted mother, and she had often been portrayed as the quintessential traditionalist in stark relief to the rising persona of the "liberated woman" (Perlstein). Sharply reversing this trend of conservative traditionalism, Betty chose instead to embody the values of this new generation of liberated women and to embrace many socially taboo issues with openness. As First Lady and cohort to President Gerald Ford (1974–1977), Betty Ford used candor and her national power to influence the controversial topics of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The identity crisis for women did not begin in America until the fire, strength, and ability of the pioneer women were no longer needed. Women today whom feel that they have no goal, purpose, or future will commit suicide. Betty Friedan attempts to explain the causes of women's unhappiness as she tags it, "the problem that has no name". (Friedan, pg.790, 1963) Friedan's rhetoric in the essay is constructed and based upon three persuasive techniques, which are known as ethos, pathos, and logos. In her essay, her main goal was to bring about how successful her approach in determining the role of women in society. She did an excellent job at defending her argument with facts from history to back it up. Friedan shows how statistics show that American women were taken away from full human capacity growth by the social ethos that came about in that time. Her word choice, which was chosen wisely, increased the compatibly with her ideas and opinions.... • 19. The Relationship Between Riverdale And Gilgamesh Death and grief are common themes in literature and entertainment as a result of their presence throughout history. These themes create a tie between the most ancient texts and modern pop culture. An example of this is Gilgamesh and Riverdale. In the ancient Sumerian narrative, Gilgamesh by Herbert Mason, Gilgamesh, a ruthless king deals with the death of his newfound friend, Enkidu. Before, Gilgamesh did not care for his people. He forced brides to sleep with him, and did not take care of the great walls his subjects took so long to make. On the other hand, Enkidu grew up in the forest with the animals, and learned to protect and respect all beings. Both maintained their strength and friendship until Enkidu reached his disastrous fate. In the modern TV show, Riverdale by Rob Seidenglanz, Cheryl Blossom grieves for her twin brother, Jason. The two were inseparable from birth, and their entire town was aware. Similarly to Gilgamesh, Cheryl was unsympathetic and disliked by her peers. Jason, like Enkidu, was more responsible and compassionate. In both Gilgamesh and Riverdale, characters learn to cope with the loss of a meaningful person in their life and ultimately experience change as a result. The friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, as well as the attachment between Cheryl Blossom and her brother, Jason, is what makes their deaths so important. • 29. The Feminine Mystique By Betty Friedan In the book The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan brings attention to what she calls the feminine mystique, or "the problem that has no name". Through the use of anecdotal narratives, her own personal experiences as a journalist, editor, mother, and the interviews of many women from different backgrounds in order to unveil the truth about the women of the 1950's. The problem which sparked the second wave of feminism in the United States is one that focuses on the inequality between men and women and the undervaluing of women in both the social and private spheres. The women of the time gave up pursuing their passions, such as getting an education or careers in science or business in order to fit the image of the stereotypical stay–at–home mom whose main goal in life is to raise her children while providing a safe and comforting home for her husband. The Feminine Mystique, as she called it, was the idea of widespread unhappiness of women, despite the preconceived notion that women were happiest when they have a family. Throughout her work, she dives into many of the problems associated with the feminine mystique and builds a powerful concept of what would eventually be labeled feminism. Friedan begins by pointing out how during the 1950's the average age of women when they married was getting younger and younger, and how birthrates among these women were increasing. • 30. Feminism : A Consciousness Of Women 's Social And Economic... "For me, now, feminist art must show a consciousness of women 's social and economic position in the world. I also believe it demonstrates forms and perceptions that are drawn from a sense of spiritual kinship between women" (theartstory.org) are the words of artist, Suzanne Lacy. In a world where men are looked at as superior, feminism is an incredibly important movement in the eyes of a woman. All of the feelings and emotions that have manifested within women throughout the years, are able to be expressed through feminism. The impact of this movement has lasted over decades and gives women the power to stick together and fight for what they believe in. The feminist movement of the 1960's was represented through, The Sculpture II by Kirsten Justesen, and by the song, "You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore. Looking through history, feminism can be traced all the way back to the revolutionary war. In this time, women went as far as dressing as men in order to fight for their country and what they believe in. Later on, it is presented during the time of the Women's Suffrage movement, allowing women to vote with the 19th Amendment. Although women always found ways to fight back against society, feminism was never an actual developed idea. It only began in the early 1960's that women really started questioning why they were so inferior to men. Women weren 't allowed to have much of an opinion before the sixties; if they dared to say what they thought it would be considered absurd. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women And Ideal Characteristics Of Femininity According to The Broadview Anthology of British Literature, "There was much debate concerning the proper place of women and the ideal characteristics of femininity throughout the nineteenth century." The Victorian Era officially followed the reign of Queen Victoria in England from 1837 to 1901, but the era is not so rigidly set. The ideologies, values, and mores associated with the Victorian era were present before Queen Victoria, and then followed into America and also lived sixty years past its recorded date of death. In the 1950s and 60s, the idea of femininity was still being explored, just as it was a century prior in another country. Esther Greenwood is a woman of the 1950s who goes against the belief that women should marry; in fact, she declares, "I'm never going to get married" (Plath 93) while being proposed to by Buddy Willard. In the Victorian Era, it was largely men who grappled with the questioning and answering of the desires and needs of women, and in the 1960s, the patriarchal society determined the woman's role. In her novel, Plath specifically points out the flaw in the system: men are not women, so they cannot accurately govern their needs or wants. After Esther's rejection of Buddy, he claims, "You're crazy. You'll change your mind" (93). In another scene, Esther recalls, "I also remember Buddy Willard saying in a sinister, knowing way that after I had children I wouldn't want to write anymore" (85). Buddy's predictions about Esther's future align with the "correct" attitudes for women of the time. Your only trouble will be determining which friends should dress up as Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, and Veronica Lodge. How to create it at home: Each character has a ... • 33. Riverdale Character Analysis Riverdale is an American television program that is based primarily on the Archie comics which were first released in the 1940's. The comics focus largely on a love triangle between the three main characters, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Archie Andrews. Unlike the television show, Betty and Veronica see one another as frenemies and are constantly at odds over Archie, who is never at fault for any of the mishaps that happen. TheArchie comics were never big advocates of feminism and instead focused primarily on Archie and the two female characters invented to fight over him, cementing the idea that girls are only around to win boys affection. In contrast, Riverdale the television show focuses on Betty and Veronica as friends instead of frenemies and builds upon the idea that girls are smart, capable, and are stronger when they work together. The new television spin on the original comics brings together the old characters and main plot points and puts an innovative feminist attitude towards them to mesh them with the beliefs and issues of today's society. The characters in this show are much more than the typical jock, nerd, good, bad stereotypes that are commonly depicted in teenage dramas viewed on the television today. The women of Riverdale prove that for positive change to take place, friendship must take precedent and sticking together as girls is the most important aspect of driving forward social change. • 34. Descriptive Essay About Mickey Mouse I remember it like it was yesterday; my heart was beating and I could hear and feel it, I had determination on my face and in my mind and it felt good. My determination was to beat my younger brother to the top of the tree in our side yard I almost never climb the trees in our yard for the fear of falling out; which has happened before when we went apple picking which did not end well on my part of climbing in those apple trees. But we were getting ready that nice sunny morning in the summer. I remember the nice sunshine heat on my face and the cool winds coming from the East and it was just exhilarating. I told my brother Michael "I bet you five bucks you can't beat me to the top of that tree!" pointing at one in the yard. I knew he would do it because he would want the money and he always wanted to one up me. So we were setting up and talking smack to one another, names being changed to something else although I deflected all of his I came up with the nickname of Mickey Mouse. Funny thing is that nickname stuck around through that day and not his real name Michael. So we are all prepared to do it and we are at the bottom of the tree. I noticed that there was a cinder block at the bottom of the tree and I said "Mickey better not fall on that.". And that was a dumb thing to say as to I should have just moved it so there was no possible way it could happen. But I was just a fifth grader who did not think through things. Michael said " I don't need to worry about it, you're ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Femenine Mystique and Feminist Theory: From Margin to... In the books The Feminine Mystique and Feminist Theory: From Margin to Theory all focus on Feminism. Feminism is a work of movements; theories and ideas all aimed to define, establish equal rights for women. Feminism came in three different waves, 1. The Suffrage, 2) Woman's liberation movement, and 3) was a continuation of the second wave and its accomplishments and failures. Both of the books focus on the second wave of feminism and take us on a journey on how woman, black and white, survived the ninetieth and twentieth century. In the Book, Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan begins to explain the different shifts of women's thinking when it came to "her place." In the fifties, many of the times, the women were the cookie cutter homemakers. These women focused on nothing but pleasing their husbands and children. These women used all of their time and energy on having a clean home, food on the table, multiple children, and a martini ready for their husband when he walked in the door. Women were looking to find a degree or have a career for themselves; Friedan said that many of the times, women went to college to find their MRS degree. The women back in time were living in a man's world; another concern for Friedan was the fact that men created the magazines women were reading. This showed that women could not escape a man's wants or needs. These magazines impressions were brainwashing to the women seeing that they did not understand anything else. A theme that I caught ... • 39. The Women's Movement Essay The Women's Movement The women's rights movement was a huge turning point for women because they had succeeded in the altering of their status as a group and changing their lives of countless men and women. Gender, Ideology, and Historical Change: Explaining the Women's Movement was a great chapter because it explained and analyzed the change and causes of the women's movement. Elaine Tyler May's essay,Cold War Ideology and the Rise of Feminism and Women's Liberation and Sixties Radicalism by Alice Echols both gave important but different opinions and ideas about the women's movement. Also, the primary sources reflect a number of economic, cultural, political, and demographic influences on the women's movement. This chapter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her essay she relates the rise of feminist consciousness in the 1960s to numerous changes in American society, especially the rise of other protest movements. Echols said, "On September 7, 1968, the sixties came to that most apple–pie of American institutions, the Miss America Pageant" (Echols, 308). The reason she said this was because one hundred women's liberation activists descended upon Atlantic City to protest the pageant's promotion of physical attractiveness as the primary measure of women's worth. From there, the protestors set up a "Freedom Trash Can" and filled it with high–heeled shoes, bras, girdles, hair curlers, false eyelashes, typing books, and representative copies of Cosmopolitan, Playboy, and Ladies Home Journal. They wanted to burn the contents but couldn't because of the laws for bonfires on the boardwalk. Also, word had been leaked to the press that there would be a symbolic bra–burning. However, there were no bras burnt that day. But the image of the bra–burning, militant feminists remains part of our popular mythology about the women's liberation movement. The Miss America demonstration represents an important moment in the history of the sixties as well as the women's movement (Echols, 309–310). Although the women's liberation movement only began to take shape toward the end of the decade, it was a quintessentially sixties movement. The women's liberation movement alone carried on and extended into the 1970s that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
