Something Rotten ! Play Analysis
Something Rotten! at the St. James Theatre Last April Something Rotten! came to Broadway at the
St. James Theatre on 44th Street.
This extraordinary musical is based on the book written by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirpatrick.
Karey and Wayne Kirpatrick created the music and lyrics for this new engaging musical. Something
Rotten! was choreographed and directed by Casey Nicholaw. This outrageous new musical resonates
with every musical theatre enthusiast.
Something Rotten! is set in the 1590s and follows the Bottom brothers, Nick (Brian d'Arcy James)
and Nigel (John Cariani), who are desperate to write a hit play. They are stuck behind the shadow of
the renaissance rock star "The Bard" or better known as William Shakespeare (two time tony award
winner Christian Borle). Nick Bottom (James) is so frantic for a winning idea he seeks out a local
soothsayer, Nostradamus (the brilliant Brad Oscar), who tells Nick (James) the future of theatre.

It is no wonder he won the Tony award for best performance by an actor in a featured role in a
musical for his portrayal of rock star Will. Brad Oscar was also fabulous in his portrayal of
Nostradamus and it is no wonder that he was also nominated against Gregg Barnes for the Tony
award. It was his showstopper performance during the song "A Musical" that wowed the audience.
Something Rotten! definitely tickled your funny bone with its hilarious parodies of other musicals.

My Passion In Music
Throughout my 14 years of life, I have always been a musical child. At a very early age, I was
exposed to all different genres and artists, from Gwen Stefani to AC/DC. I easily fell in love with
music, enjoying it and learning it. Although I have always adored music and have been shy to
express that to other people, in the past few years I have been more open to sharing my talent and
my passion for it, with other people. (road map) When I started playing cello in fourth grade, I was
very excited to learn a new instrument and to perform in an ensemble with my friends. I was second
stand, second chair, meaning I was the fourth best cellist in the orchestra. I was happy that I was not
the first chair. Despite my love for the instrument, I had never been upset to not be first chair. In
fifth grade, I did not participate in NYSSMA and for the first half of the year, I was still second
stand, second chair. Then, Dr. Perea, the orchestra conductor, decided we would be playing Smoke
on the Water for our winter concert. There was a section of the arrangement that he decided to
feature soloists within our orchestra. He had picked violins and violas to perform the solos, teaching
them patterns and improv skills to play. One day after rehearsal, I realized I wanted to take part in
the solos. I went to Dr. Perea and told him I had an interest in playing during the solo section. He
told me he was excited to hear that I wanted to play, and so he gave me a key signature and sent me

Reflective Essay-Theoretical The Musical
Seussical the Musical was not my first choice, but the show quickly grew on me. My primary goal
in this project for me was to complete anything asked of me as well as learn all I could about the
entire design process. Working on my drafting skills and learning how to collaborate with another
designer were additional goals I wanted to work on. Over winter break I traveled home to Colorado,
so I did not directly participate in the initial design process. After design meetings, Nina would fill
me in on how the design was developing and let me know if I needed to do anything to help assist in
the process. I did not do a large majority of the research for this project as Nina did most of it before
I was their assistant. Nevertheless, I did research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I helped load the truck with platform and props as well as assist in the folding of a border. During
the second half of the strike period, I helped paint the floor to restore it to black, though because of
our time limit and lack of coverage produced by the paint, the floor did not look as pristine as we
would have hoped. In this particular assignment, I did not struggle with my time management as
much as my previous assignment. Part of this was due to me feeling more comfortable in my
position in the show, as well as having an older, more experienced student to show me what to do
and answer my questions. I was given jobs and told when to have them done by. It was particularly
pleasant to have a structure given to me. Having this structure is deeply beneficial to my workflow,
so in future assignments where I will be the lead designer, I will need to set up a framework of due
dates and an order to do things in for myself. I did not struggle to articulate my ideas to my
colleagues. I would explain what I could and then if they did not understand I would either use
sketches or references to further explain myself. I would even change how I explained something if
necessary. Luckily it was rare for my ideas to be misinterpreted, and rather I would distort someone
else's idea due to me not asking enough questions or the right questions. As a result of personal
experiences and development over time, a single detail or the meaning of an idea could be
misunderstood. My work and ideas, in the end, benefited the show, as well as present the vision of
the Director and Nina

Dr. Seuss Character Analysis
Being able to relate to something or someone is the best thing that can happen to us. Reading a book
can bring us memories of how we used to be and how we felt when we first read something we were
able to relate too. In most books we are able to relate to the characters. Not only are we able to relate
ourselves to a character and now that we are not the only ones like that but we can relate the other
characters with our surroundings. In the book The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss, some of the few
books that we can relate the character to us, uses fantasia and realistic characters that we can relate
ourselves and others that are within our surroundings. The children are the main characters, realistic
and are the ones that we relate ourselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the fish is treated as a family member. The fish says "... our mother..." stating how the
children's mother is also his mother (Seuss 25). This situation is comparable on how some children
and even adults see their pets as a member of their family.
Thing 1 and Thing 2 are the pets that the Cat in the Hat brings along to show a different way to have
fun. The Things are fantasy characters and are similar to the children. They both do not know how to
have fun but the children do not do any action they just sit unlike the Things they make a mess. The
cat describes Thing 1 and Thing 2 by telling the fish, "They are tame. Oh so tame! They have come
here to play..." (Seuss 37). The Things turn out not to be so disciplined nor tame they were a total
disaster. They were like little monsters running around the house destroying everything near them,
not knowing how to domestically have fun. Even though they were illustrated as a child they had
different qualities that distinguished them from a human. Since they are designated as Things it
indicates that they are not human (MacDonald 115). Also the narrator –the boy –described them as
some wild things as he saw that they were knocking down everything. Also, when Dr. Seuss
mentions that they are tame, he pats Thing 1 and Thing 2 on their head like if they were pets.

Symbolism In Dr. Seuss The Cat In The Hat
The importance of symbolism creates the many representations of ideas and stories. Symbolism
portrayed throughout Dr. Seuss's poems include The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish
Blue Fish, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Green Eggs and Ham. Dr. Seuss writes youthful
poems with the ability to capture deeper meanings as a reader advances. In the Cat In The hat poem
there are two very distinctive roles that change meaning with the age of the reader. The Cat
influences the kids in the book to participate in foolish behavior by introducing games, activities,
and silly actions to do before their mother gets home to stop the fun. The Cat In the Hat persuades,
"Your mother will not mind if I do," blinding the kids from the truth of the out of control business
that's been going on. The other character faced in the poem acts as the grumpy parent like fish. "No,
make the Cat go away," The fish shrieks. He is illustrated as a parent's point of view on a fun day
and does not condone any of the behavior of the Cat and demands him to go away. As a child
reading the story many see the Fish as the bad character for not wanting any fun, but as readers
mature they can see how the Fish really was just acting as a responsible adult would act. The Cat
wins favoritism by the youth for breaking the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem appears very visual and easy to picture in mind which allows children readers to imagine
the fish really being alive. "This one has a little car. Say! What a lot of fish there are. Yes. Some are
red. And some are blue." Dr. Seuss writes. Kids that read Dr. Seuss hardly know what discrimination
and injustice mean and believe it's just a fish town. The poem clearly talks a lot about the difference
of every fish by using fish to symbolize people, but only the more developed readers pick up on and
understand how it relates to modern day injustice and racism with the differences of the

Yertle The Turtle Analysis
Yertle the Turtle, written by Dr. Suess, is a short, illustrated children's book which tells the fictional
tale of Yertle, who was the king of his pond. Yertle's obsession with power led to continual
expansion of his throne by stacking all of the turtles in his pond on top of one another. And he would
stand atop this tower until his eventual, in fact inevitable downfall.
This work was intended to be more than just empty children's literature, for Dr. Suess conveys a
message about dictatorships through this oeuvre. Dr. Seuss uses many different rhetorical strategies
to convey this message throughout this short story. Dr. Suess thoroughly considers his audience
throughout the story by his use of diction, syntax, and images. Suess is appealing to mainly an
audience of children, and to do this he uses short words that rhyme and multiple examples of
parallelism. For example, "I'm the king of a cow! And I'm king of a mule!". This would be appealing
to children because the wording doesn't require a high reading level and the parallelism makes the
important sentences stand out. Suess also appeals to children with the artwork in the book. He uses a
plethora of colorful pictures to connect the text to an image and make ... Show more content on

The picture of Yertle the Turtle on pg. 3 that shows Yertle sitting on a stump, menacingly pondering
his plans to expand his "view" of the pond, is an effective use of symbolism. The image shows a
large area of dark ink behind Yertle to symbolise and convey a dark and ominous feeling. Another
example of images conveying rhetorical devices is on pg. 16 where the turtles are to stay upright
while Yertle is blissfully standing atop of them. This picture is a metaphor is for how in a
dictatorship the people on the bottom are struggling working just to survive, while the ruler is
without a care for the people below

What Is A Place Home Essay
There is not a single place on this Earth that someone can take me that will make me feel at ease no
matter how hard that person tries. The only thing that can truly make someplace home and make me
feel at ease is a place with friends, family, and a place to perform.
When I'm surrounded by family, even if it's just sharing a home cooked meal my parents or my
sister and I or watching a movie whether it'd be an action film, sci–fi or sometimes even fantasy, it
brings us closer. It helps me to understand more about them. Without them, there is not a place that
would ever feel like home. There also has to friends in my life. I enjoy making meals with them,
talking with them, playing games, all while surrounded by the laughter and joy. Sometimes, ... Show

dance since I was three. I'm currently taking classes at the Flemington Health Quest for hip–hop and
jazz but I've also taken ballet, tap, and lyrical in the past. I also enjoy salsa dancing during some of
my free time or at parties. In addition, to singing, playing percussion, dancing, and acting, I've now

Descriptive Essay About Music
Some people sing just simply for the pleasure of it. Some people sing to develop some type of
purpose in their life. Some people sing to escape reality even for just a moment. Some people sing to
relieve the emotional pain attached to their world . But regardless of who you are, we all sing to
express ourselves as individuals. This photo was taken on Saturday November 12th, when my best
friend and I participated in the 2016 Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) District 7
Chorus. ILMEA is an annual festival held by the high school educators of music, in which students
audition to be apart of. This festival is known to have some of the most reputable classical music in
Illinois as the top students from auditions are selected to participate in a concert. When the photo
was taken, we had just finished a six hour rehearsal and were about to perform. We were both
exhausted yet adrenaline rushed through our bodies causing jolts of excitement, because in all, this
performance is what we had been waiting for, what we had worked so hard for. Only hours earlier,
we walked into rehearsal not knowing what was in store for us. I remember standing in the
auditorium next to complete strangers. It was fascinating looking around, taking note of people from
all types of backgrounds. The amazing part was that despite all of our differences, we had all
seemed to be there for the same singular purpose: to make music. As we warmed up, I could hear
everyone's unique individual tone, a

Horton Hears a Worldview
Worldview is an idea or image of the relationship between humanity and the universe. In Horton
Hears a Who, there are a few main characters: Kangaroo, Horton, and the mayor of Whoville. Each
character has their own worldview. Kangaroo's worldview is naturalism, while Horton and the
mayor have a relatively same worldview: theism. The movie depicts that no matter how hard
someone believes in something, there will always be obstacles and if they stay true to their
worldview they can overcome them. Each character believes in a worldview, they go through
obstacles, and each worldview does have a personal affect on the people on this Earth. Horton Hears
a Who is about a speck with life on a clover and only Horton can hear them. Horton is not afraid to
stand up for the tiny people and he believes that a person is a person no matter how small or big they
are. He believes that no matter if you can't see, hear or feel something that there still is a possibility
that it can be true. The mayor is another example of Horton's worldview because he had to believe
that Horton was talking to him even though he couldn't see or feel him. The mayor could have just
written it off as a joke (like he did in the beginning), but after some convincing the mayor believed.
Kangaroo on the other hand is a naturalist. She stated, "If you can't see, hear, or feel something it
doesn't exist" (Hayward and Martino 2008). She wanted everyone to think like her and she never
wanted the animals to use their

Dr. Seuss: The Cat In The Hat
The Cat in the Hat

Eng 290
July 13,2015
The Cat in the Hat by Dr.Seuss is a children's book that was made into a movie. The Cat in the Hat
is based on a cat who wears the colors red and white. The author decided to use the words cat and
hat for rhyming. This allow children to remember the book and certain things that are in it. The story
can be seen as a fun reading for children who connect to the children in the story. The story is very
humorous because the characters are not that realistic. In real life one would never see a fish talking
and telling children what to do or a cat who is able to put on many different games and then clean up
in the matter of seconds. The Cat in the Hat can be seen as a novel of prose ... Show more content on

Within this level the children obey rules to a point and clean up all of the mess in order to hide from
their mother that they were having fun with the Cat in the Hat. Also in the instrument and relativist
orientation the children and the cat cleaned up the mess that they all made in order for all of them
not to get in trouble or get caught. Another idea that is recognized in this tier of Kohlberg's theory is
the idea of self–interest. With this people ask what is in it for me. What can I do to not get in trouble
and avoid the punishment that I will be in? In the story this can be seen through the idea of the fish
and how he is like a babysitter to the children reminding them what the mother is going to say and
warning them that she is on the way home. With this in order for the children to stay out of trouble
with the mom they decide to kick Cat in the Hat out. They do hope he will come back for fun. The
students may choose to do what is right and all though the cat took all his mess they may tell on him
because they do not want that mess or even more to happen again. Another level of Kohlberg's
theory is

Discourse Community At Colleyville Heritage High School...
Discourse Community Analysis
A discourse community is a group of people with similar ideologies, goals, life experiences and
ways of communicating. A lot of us have been in a discourse community without even knowing it.
They are so easy to be a part of, you are practically born into one, for your family has a culture and
background, which fits the definition of a discourse community. I am actually a part of a few
communities myself, and you probably are too. Some examples of mine are my family, being a UTA
student, Italian, a woman and a part of UTA's musical theater program. Which brings me to the most
important community I have been a part of, so far in my life, Colleyville Heritage High schools
theater department, I am no longer a part of it, but in the short four years I was, my life has changed
for the better. In my paper, I will talk to you about my time at Colleyville Heritage High School
theater department, and how the community gave me a sense of belonging, taught me how to
persevere, by means of loving art and preforming. This will be backed by ethos, logos and pathos,
for I have experienced all the emotions of joining a new group, along with the four years of taking
acting, and singing lessons and doing shows, paired with real life events to prove everything in this
paper is one hundred percent real.
Let's start with my freshman year of high school, I don't have any real cliché story of me coming

"I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think." Written by

thoughtful demeanor in the classroom, perfectly describes Samantha Rowberry, myself, a 14 year
old girl currently living in England and attending Lakenheath Middle School. Samantha is known
for being the girl with the crazy socks, the smart one (a.k.a. the human computer), a frequent actress

The supra described confidence that heightened her performances also accomplished something
much greater, which was motivating her to experiment with different, unfamiliar ideas and activities.
Some things that can be counted as one of her passions are acting, singing, dancing, biology,
ornithology (specifically the evolution of avian flight), reading, writing, and learning. The arts are a
major part of this 14 year old who has appeared in 7 musicals, 3 plays, 7 singing recitals and
concerts, and 6 dance recitals. These feats were achieved only through perseverance and an
exploration of new and different genres of hobbies, for Samantha never would have known that she
loved to perform if she hadn't become truly interested in dance in Connecticut when she joined a
ballet and a jazz class at Joni's Dance Center or half–intrigued with the idea of acting when she
auditioned for her school's production of School House Rock in 4th grade. These specific
discoveries influenced her to try out a musical theater group in Las Vegas called Hollywood Kids

Exploring A Career Within Entertainment Management
The world's population has one prominent commonality– a love of the entertainment industry.
Whether it is on purpose or not; music, art, television, theater; these forms of entertainment are
everywhere. Even though the entertainment industry is already enormous, it is expected to grow 9–
13% in the next eight years (American Job Center and O*Net, 2015, Wages and Employment
Trends). The industry's digital revenue will total $994 billion; thus, increasing the need for
entertainment managers (American Job Center and O*Net, 2015, Wages and Employment Trends).
An entertainment manager is in control of all aspects of a performer, event, or venue (Rosewall,
2014). Their duties could include everything from conducting research, networking, or negotiating
contracts, to booking performances, and managing events (American Job Center and O*Net, 2015,
Tasks). The purpose of this research is to explore a career in entertainment management to
determine if this is a strong fit. The elements investigated include job responsibilities, skills for
success, and an overview of the industry. Also included in the research is a discussion of
professional organizations, industry publications, career opportunities, and a self–analysis. This
research is based on textbooks, academic articles, journals, and an interview with an industry
professional.

Evil Embers Essay
One of the most fundamental and basic philosophical questions that is frequently asked but never
seems to evoke answers is what is the essence of good? What defines evil? These two auras
dominate our world and culture, can be found in the most basic of conversation, from peasant to
president, and yet no one can truly define them. In the poem "The Tyger" by William Blake, he
makes an attempt to illustrate his feelings on evil and all that it represents. There is no definite
answer given, yet a picture is painted to show us his thoughts and ponderings. His foresight and
enlightened point of view only serve to further strengthen the knowledge of the reader on the
mystical forces we have simply dubbed good and evil. It is extremely important ... Show more

Blake was constantly bombarded with such negative change, a palpable evil surrounding him. This
is almost definitely the inspiration for a philosophical poem such as "The Tyger" (1794).When ones
generation is defined by such an unruly ugly aura, it's easy to understand how and why one would
write about such a touchy subject as the essence of evil. It's a topic rarely explored, rarely described,
and rarely deciphered. But Mr. Blake does an excellent job of at least presenting a discussion point
for this dangerous "evil." The philosophical question is broken down into sub–sections, who created
good and evil? What exactly is evil? Is it the absence of good? As all noteworthy philosophers do,
Mr. Blake lays the question out for us to ponder ourselves, for one to answer in one's own heart. The
obvious best choice of analysis for a poem of such meaning and strength is to completely break
down each and every stanza, discussing things as simplistic as meter and rhyme, diction and
language, to a more in depth analysis of meaning and lessons. We must understand firstly that the
speaker is not William Blake. Throughout all of Songs of Experience, a common narrator tells the
stories of toil and struggle. A striking beginning draws the reader in, capturing the essence of "The
Tyger." "Tyger Tyger, burning bright!" We know that an

("the Oregon Chapter of the International Thespian Society") organizes a theatre competition every
February. Divided into the Northwest, Northeast, and Southern regions, high schools all over
Oregon gather in three various locations on Feb. 6 to compete at Regionals. While still a
competition, the contest looks a little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The day before Regionals, Friday Feb. 5, Wilsonville High School theatre will present the Regionals
showcase "Night on Broadway"", where students will perform their acting and musical numbers for
the Wilsonville public – an event that will hopefully raise money for future shows. While there is
only one performance, "Night on Broadway" will included around 30 separate acts from shows such
as "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson", "First Date", "The Wedding Singer", "Dog fight", "I Love
You, You're Perfect, Now Change", "Next to Normal", "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"
and many more. So while "Night on Broadway" might not be a play or a musical, with seven or eigt
performances, elaborate costumes and sets, and a pit orchestra, the actors and directors will be
working just as hard to organize a showcase that not only fundraises for the next dramatic season,
but allows students to practice their numbers once more, before performing in front of judges – a
crucial step in "putting yourself out there" as a

Seussical The Musical Essay
A Critical Review of Seussical the Musical More then exceeding my expectations, Seussical the
Musical opened on Broadway in 2000 and has since been preformed in off–Broadway settings
around the country. Intricately weaving The Cat in the Hat with the various chronicles of Horton the
elephant such as Horton Hears a Who and Horton Hatches an Egg, this performance exceeded my
expectations. Considering it was a dinner theater in Jacksonville, Florida and that the play's
namesake came from a book my parents read to me as a toddler, my expectations were relatively
low; however, the performance greatly exceeded my preconceived expectations. From the high
quality of the actors to the surprisingly sophisticated plot, this play proved to be a real treat. The
performance hall was designed in a thrust manner, which from a frontal view of the stage, I sat on
the left hand side. This designed allowed for an unorthodox relationship between the actor and the
audience. The actors would commonly come off the stage and run around the hall, lacing the rows.
While running around, they would sometimes sing to one individual or extend their hand for ...

Seuss stories, this play used mentioned before elements to mask the seriousness of his works. One of
the songs that were song several times throughout the play, the refrain even appears on the playbill,
was centered on the idea that "a person's a person, no matter how small!" (Program Notes. Seussical
the Musical. Alhambra. Jacksonville, FL. 7/11/2015.) In the play, Horton the Elephant hears the
miniature townsfolk of Whoseville yelling for help on a spec of dust. He treats them with respect
and attempts to help them while being manipulated by a Mayzie the Bird to watch he egg, attacked
by the monkeys who steal his flower holding the spec of dust, and laughed at by the rest of the
animals in the jungle. The message here is simple, that all humans, with no exceptions, should be

A King Is The Best And Worst Of Men
David Anthony Durham once said, "A king is the best and worst of men" (Durham). By this, he was
saying that kings have the potential to leave great legacies or a trail of failures. As a result of kings
being chosen by royal succession, rather than actual qualifications, many kings throughout history
have been unfit for leadership of a nation. An example of this is The Count of Artois, Charles X of
the France. He was uneducated and led a frivolous life. When Louis XVIII died in 1824, Charles X
was faced the difficult task of becoming king when no one expected it to happen. He was ultimately
unprepared for the job, and exemplified all the qualities of an unfit ruler. When Dr. Seuss wrote
"Yertle the Turtle", he was not only creating a meaningful children's story, but also providing adults
with an important lesson on leadership. He used Yertle as a metaphor for oppressive governance.
Yertle's actions can be compared to the actions of Charles X of France and other tyrannical rulers.
Greed is an extremely dangerous quality to have in a ruler. The leaders of nations who greed for
more land are led to start wars, and the leaders who greed for money crush their citizens with heavy
taxes. Yertle is a very greedy Turtle King. When commenting on the extent of his kingdom he says, I
'm the ruler of all that I see. But I don 't see enough. That 's the trouble with me" (Seuss). Despite
ruling literally everything is in his sight he still wants more. This type of insatiability makes for

Future Problem Solvers: A Concert Analysis
What does one learn from failure? Will the disappointments from failure trouble the individual, or
will the disappointments encourage them to try harder? I believe it is imperative to attempt new
things and take risks. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "You must do the thing you think you cannot
do." Continually facing a fear and achieving goals that one thought they could never accomplish,
will improve their self confidence, motivate them to never give up, and will help them realize their
own potential.
I first came to Burris in second grade. That same year, Burris was directing Seussical the Musical.
Both of my parents encouraged me to go to the auditions but I firmly disagreed. At that time, I
disliked singing and I didn't think I was very good at it either. My parents' persuasion resulted in
bribing me with ice cream and play dates, until I agreed to audition. I recall being very nervous, but
as I started to sing my song I seemed to enjoy being on stage. After the audition I was very eager to
know if I was selected to be part of the show. Thankfully I was not only chosen to be included in the
ensemble, but I got cast as the role of the baby kangaroo. If I had let my fear stop me I ... Show

At first I was very nervous because I was told that the complexity of the research would be at a high
school level. Initially this made me anxious, but I decided to calm my nerves and give it a try. As the
weeks went by, I started to appreciate our weekly meetings and the research. I was actually surprised
that I was able to cope up with the reading and understand at least most of it. Now that I look back, I
realize that Future Problem Solving helped me learn to believe in myself. I also learned about my
untouched potential. If I had declined the offer of joining the team or had doubted myself, I would

Comparing Ron Howard's How the Grinch Stole Christmas to Dr. Seuss' Grinch
Whether or not you consider Ron Howard's version of Dr Seuss's classic How The Grinch Stole
Christmas comical, yet disgraceful, there's no ignoring the little green monster's reign over the box
office. The movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey, was released in November
of 2000, reaching a gross high of over $200 million in the U.S alone (The Numbers). However, I
feel that this version has over exaggerated the original story, and I will back this up by showing
many examples of how Dr. Seuss's classic turned into a marketing, franchise frenzy.
Dr. Seuss's original fable is a simple story told with a great moral that criticizes the ... Show more

This show can be seen on TV every Christmas season. Then Ron Howard takes this short film and
draws it out to be a two and a half–hour long movie. The worst aspect of the movie is that it makes a
mockery of Seuss's main message: "Christmas doesn't come from a store." This movie is all about
selling, from those furry talking Grinch dolls to endless fast–food tie–ins.
There are many differences between the movie and the original story, one of which is Cindy Lou
Who. In the original Grinch she is portrayed as innocent two year old. In the movie however, she is
about seven years old, which allows her to be slightly more skeptical about things. Jim Carrey
played The Grinch, but when watching this movie it seemed as if The Grinch was playing Jim
Carrey. The original cartoon leaves you with much more imagination as to why the Grinch is so
mean. Quoting from Dr. Seuss's book:
"The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! Now, please don't ask why. No one
quite knows the reason. It could be that his head wasn't screwed on quite right. It could be, perhaps,
that his shoes were to tight. But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that his
heart was two sizes too small." (Seuss).
However in the over–exaggerated movie it included the reason behind the Grinch's hatred of
Christmas; saying it was because the kids used to tease him when he was little, until the day he

E. HOLMES DISTRICT – Giving praise to the district's fine arts program and sharing their talents,
Winesburg students Gus Johnson and Gracie Keim broke into song at Tuesday's Board of Education

Both will appear in an upcoming production of Seussical. In the musical, Johnson, the sixth–grade
son of Matt and Holley Johnson, plays Horton the elephant. Keim, the fifth–grade daughter of Larry

She referred to herself as "your 'average' East Holmes elementary art teacher, working with 500–

Echoing the sentiments of McKey, Gilmore said, for many students "art and music are the best part

likely to face, as adults, "challenges we cannot envision."
"It will require creativity and grit to be successful," said Gilmore, who said she works daily not only
to encourage excellence, but strives to inspire the students.
Applauding the efforts of McKey, Gilmore, Barnes and all district staff who engage students in fine
arts instruction, Superintendent Erik Beun told the board, "This is just a small sliver of the fine art

Essay On Dr. Seuss
As Dr. Seuss once said, "I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary
ingredient in living." Theodor Seuss Geisel, formally known as Dr. Seuss, is considered by many
people to be one of the most influential authors and illustrators of the twentieth and twenty–first
centuries. With over sixty books written and illustrated, many of them rewarded, Seuss left a lasting
impact on kids and adults all over the world. Seuss combined whimsical drawings and rhyming
words to give readers an unforgettable story. Seuss' stories appear in households and libraries all

Seuss not only provided unforgettable stories for children to read all over the globe, but he set a
precedent for many films, stories, and television shows in decades to come. Seuss is famous for not

the first of its kind. His ability to bring humor and an important lesson to the story sold him an

Seussical The Musical: Mischievous Cat In The Hat
Seussical the Musical is a fun and entertaining musical for all ages. Seussical has many beloved and
diverse characters. Characters such as the mischievous Cat in the Hat, the loving Horton the
Elephant, the mean Grinch and the youthful and sweet JoJo. The musical begins in the Jungle of
Nool. Horton discovers a piece of dust containing Whoville. He decides that he needs to protect the
speck of dust on a nearby clover while at the same time protecting an egg left by the lazy Mayzie.
Seussical the Musical had a very bright and vibrant stage. The stage was full of brightly painted
buildings. The brightly painted buildings was very appealing for the audience to watch the musical.
The lighting was excellent on the characters as they moved about the stage. For example, when
Horton moved around the stage protecting his clover, the audience could always see him. When the
monkeys were jumping around the stage, the lighting captured them at every angle. The lighting
allowed for each character that was on stage to be seen openly.
The dance choreography in the musical was very good and flowed very freely with each song. For
example, all the characters danced in the opening with smooth glides and transitions. When the
circus came to town, the dance choreography worked the entire stage. ... Show more content on

enthusiasm. One character that was hard to understand was the Sour Kangaroo. Her singing voice
was so high that the audience could not understand the words to the songs. The Sour Kangaroo
needed to slow down and speak louder while talking to Horton. A few times during the musical, the
drums drowned out the singing of the

Team Performance Review
"Seussical the Musical" by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty was one of the school's biggest
musical productions that have ever aired inside the school's auditorium. I took part as one of the lead
pianists in the band, in which the band was responsible for accompanying the play with music. The
lead pianist part involved some very dense and intricate parts to play with. This part became one of
the most important roles in the whole musical, as it was used solely to accompany the most dramatic
scenes of the show, and many band members and singers relied on the lead pianist parts to help
orient them throughout. The lead pianist also must take the initiative to help the secondary pianists
to help put them in better shape to play during rehearsals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The purposes of the League is to advance the education of the Air Cadets and to promote an interest
in the air element of the Canadian Forces. In the program, cadets learn how to effectively cooperate
in many hands–on activities such as survival, and advanced aviation training which primarily
involves the study of the anatomy of aviation. The majority of the time is used to help prepare the
cadets for discipline in the military environment. All cadets are enrolled in very strict military
commands and drills that enforce no movement unless under the command's discretion. The drill is
usually repeated until every cadet in the group is able to perform it perfectly. The discipline of the
cadets is also tested when the sergeants and commanding officers do a routine check of the uniforms
and hair length of all cadets to make sure everybody looks sharp. Often when some cadets come
unprepared for the checks, the whole squadron receives a lecture from the commanding officers.
However, many of the hands on activities involve teamwork and collaboration with other people.
Notable hands–on activities in a group involved the designing of efficient and effective airports, the
innovation and design of aircraft models, and the study of flight with the use of a flight simulator.
The development of citizenship in cadets with a group of people has also become prominent through
the use of fundraising. Many

Something Rotten ! Play Analysis

  • 1. Something Rotten ! Play Analysis Something Rotten! at the St. James Theatre Last April Something Rotten! came to Broadway at the St. James Theatre on 44th Street. This extraordinary musical is based on the book written by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirpatrick. Karey and Wayne Kirpatrick created the music and lyrics for this new engaging musical. Something Rotten! was choreographed and directed by Casey Nicholaw. This outrageous new musical resonates with every musical theatre enthusiast. Something Rotten! is set in the 1590s and follows the Bottom brothers, Nick (Brian d'Arcy James) and Nigel (John Cariani), who are desperate to write a hit play. They are stuck behind the shadow of the renaissance rock star "The Bard" or better known as William Shakespeare (two time tony award winner Christian Borle). Nick Bottom (James) is so frantic for a winning idea he seeks out a local soothsayer, Nostradamus (the brilliant Brad Oscar), who tells Nick (James) the future of theatre. • 2. My Passion In Music Throughout my 14 years of life, I have always been a musical child. At a very early age, I was exposed to all different genres and artists, from Gwen Stefani to AC/DC. I easily fell in love with music, enjoying it and learning it. Although I have always adored music and have been shy to express that to other people, in the past few years I have been more open to sharing my talent and my passion for it, with other people. (road map) When I started playing cello in fourth grade, I was very excited to learn a new instrument and to perform in an ensemble with my friends. I was second stand, second chair, meaning I was the fourth best cellist in the orchestra. I was happy that I was not the first chair. Despite my love for the instrument, I had never been upset to not be first chair. In fifth grade, I did not participate in NYSSMA and for the first half of the year, I was still second stand, second chair. Then, Dr. Perea, the orchestra conductor, decided we would be playing Smoke on the Water for our winter concert. There was a section of the arrangement that he decided to feature soloists within our orchestra. He had picked violins and violas to perform the solos, teaching them patterns and improv skills to play. One day after rehearsal, I realized I wanted to take part in the solos. I went to Dr. Perea and told him I had an interest in playing during the solo section. He told me he was excited to hear that I wanted to play, and so he gave me a key signature and sent me on my ... • 3. Reflective Essay-Theoretical The Musical Seussical the Musical was not my first choice, but the show quickly grew on me. My primary goal in this project for me was to complete anything asked of me as well as learn all I could about the entire design process. Working on my drafting skills and learning how to collaborate with another designer were additional goals I wanted to work on. Over winter break I traveled home to Colorado, so I did not directly participate in the initial design process. After design meetings, Nina would fill me in on how the design was developing and let me know if I needed to do anything to help assist in the process. I did not do a large majority of the research for this project as Nina did most of it before I was their assistant. Nevertheless, I did research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I helped load the truck with platform and props as well as assist in the folding of a border. During the second half of the strike period, I helped paint the floor to restore it to black, though because of our time limit and lack of coverage produced by the paint, the floor did not look as pristine as we would have hoped. In this particular assignment, I did not struggle with my time management as much as my previous assignment. Part of this was due to me feeling more comfortable in my position in the show, as well as having an older, more experienced student to show me what to do and answer my questions. I was given jobs and told when to have them done by. It was particularly pleasant to have a structure given to me. Having this structure is deeply beneficial to my workflow, so in future assignments where I will be the lead designer, I will need to set up a framework of due dates and an order to do things in for myself. I did not struggle to articulate my ideas to my colleagues. I would explain what I could and then if they did not understand I would either use sketches or references to further explain myself. I would even change how I explained something if necessary. Luckily it was rare for my ideas to be misinterpreted, and rather I would distort someone else's idea due to me not asking enough questions or the right questions. As a result of personal experiences and development over time, a single detail or the meaning of an idea could be misunderstood. My work and ideas, in the end, benefited the show, as well as present the vision of the Director and Nina ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dr. Seuss Character Analysis Being able to relate to something or someone is the best thing that can happen to us. Reading a book can bring us memories of how we used to be and how we felt when we first read something we were able to relate too. In most books we are able to relate to the characters. Not only are we able to relate ourselves to a character and now that we are not the only ones like that but we can relate the other characters with our surroundings. In the book The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss, some of the few books that we can relate the character to us, uses fantasia and realistic characters that we can relate ourselves and others that are within our surroundings. The fish says "... our mother..." stating how the children's mother is also his mother (Seuss 25). This situation is comparable on how some children and even adults see their pets as a member of their family. Thing 1 and Thing 2 are the pets that the Cat in the Hat brings along to show a different way to have fun. The Things are fantasy characters and are similar to the children. They both do not know how to have fun but the children do not do any action they just sit unlike the Things they make a mess. The cat describes Thing 1 and Thing 2 by telling the fish, "They are tame. Oh so tame! They have come here to play..." (Seuss 37). The Things turn out not to be so disciplined nor tame they were a total disaster. They were like little monsters running around the house destroying everything near them, not knowing how to domestically have fun. Even though they were illustrated as a child they had different qualities that distinguished them from a human. Since they are designated as Things it indicates that they are not human (MacDonald 115). Also the narrator –the boy –described them as some wild things as he saw that they were knocking down everything. Also, when Dr. Seuss mentions that they are tame, he pats Thing 1 and Thing 2 on their head like if they were pets. Normally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Symbolism In Dr. Seuss The Cat In The Hat The importance of symbolism creates the many representations of ideas and stories. Symbolism portrayed throughout Dr. Seuss's poems include The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Green Eggs and Ham. Dr. Seuss writes youthful poems with the ability to capture deeper meanings as a reader advances. In the Cat In The hat poem there are two very distinctive roles that change meaning with the age of the reader. The Cat influences the kids in the book to participate in foolish behavior by introducing games, activities, and silly actions to do before their mother gets home to stop the fun. The Cat In the Hat persuades, "Your mother will not mind if I do," blinding the kids from the truth of the out of control business that's been going on. The other character faced in the poem acts as the grumpy parent like fish. "No, make the Cat go away," The fish shrieks. He is illustrated as a parent's point of view on a fun day and does not condone any of the behavior of the Cat and demands him to go away. As a child reading the story many see the Fish as the bad character for not wanting any fun, but as readers mature they can see how the Fish really was just acting as a responsible adult would act. • 6. Yertle The Turtle Analysis Yertle the Turtle, written by Dr. Suess, is a short, illustrated children's book which tells the fictional tale of Yertle, who was the king of his pond. Yertle's obsession with power led to continual expansion of his throne by stacking all of the turtles in his pond on top of one another. And he would stand atop this tower until his eventual, in fact inevitable downfall. This work was intended to be more than just empty children's literature, for Dr. Suess conveys a message about dictatorships through this oeuvre. Dr. Seuss uses many different rhetorical strategies to convey this message throughout this short story. Dr. Suess thoroughly considers his audience throughout the story by his use of diction, syntax, and images. Suess is appealing to mainly an audience of children, and to do this he uses short words that rhyme and multiple examples of parallelism. For example, "I'm the king of a cow! And I'm king of a mule!". This would be appealing to children because the wording doesn't require a high reading level and the parallelism makes the important sentences stand out. Suess also appeals to children with the artwork in the book. He uses a plethora of colorful pictures to connect the text to an image and make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example of images conveying rhetorical devices is on pg. 16 where the turtles are to stay upright while Yertle is blissfully standing atop of them. • 8. Descriptive Essay About Music Some people sing just simply for the pleasure of it. Some people sing to develop some type of purpose in their life. Some people sing to escape reality even for just a moment. Some people sing to relieve the emotional pain attached to their world . But regardless of who you are, we all sing to express ourselves as individuals. This photo was taken on Saturday November 12th, when my best friend and I participated in the 2016 Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) District 7 Chorus. ILMEA is an annual festival held by the high school educators of music, in which students audition to be apart of. This festival is known to have some of the most reputable classical music in Illinois as the top students from auditions are selected to participate in a concert. When the photo was taken, we had just finished a six hour rehearsal and were about to perform. We were both exhausted yet adrenaline rushed through our bodies causing jolts of excitement, because in all, this performance is what we had been waiting for, what we had worked so hard for. Only hours earlier, we walked into rehearsal not knowing what was in store for us. I remember standing in the auditorium next to complete strangers. It was fascinating looking around, taking note of people from all types of backgrounds. The amazing part was that despite all of our differences, we had all seemed to be there for the same singular purpose: to make music. • 9. Horton Hears a Worldview Worldview is an idea or image of the relationship between humanity and the universe. In Horton Hears a Who, there are a few main characters: Kangaroo, Horton, and the mayor of Whoville. Each character has their own worldview. Kangaroo's worldview is naturalism, while Horton and the mayor have a relatively same worldview: theism. The movie depicts that no matter how hard someone believes in something, there will always be obstacles and if they stay true to their worldview they can overcome them. Each character believes in a worldview, they go through obstacles, and each worldview does have a personal affect on the people on this Earth. Horton Hears a Who is about a speck with life on a clover and only Horton can hear them. Horton is not afraid to stand up for the tiny people and he believes that a person is a person no matter how small or big they are. He believes that no matter if you can't see, hear or feel something that there still is a possibility that it can be true. The mayor is another example of Horton's worldview because he had to believe that Horton was talking to him even though he couldn't see or feel him. The mayor could have just written it off as a joke (like he did in the beginning), but after some convincing the mayor believed. Kangaroo on the other hand is a naturalist. She stated, "If you can't see, hear, or feel something it doesn't exist" (Hayward and Martino 2008). She wanted everyone to think like her and she never wanted the animals to use their ... • 10. Dr. Seuss: The Cat In The Hat The Cat in the Hat Hanna Officer Eng 290 July 13,2015 The Cat in the Hat by Dr.Seuss is a children's book that was made into a movie. The Cat in the Hat is based on a cat who wears the colors red and white. The author decided to use the words cat and hat for rhyming. This allow children to remember the book and certain things that are in it. The story can be seen as a fun reading for children who connect to the children in the story. The story is very humorous because the characters are not that realistic. In real life one would never see a fish talking and telling children what to do or a cat who is able to put on many different games and then clean up in the matter of seconds. Another idea that is recognized in this tier of Kohlberg's theory is the idea of self–interest. With this people ask what is in it for me. What can I do to not get in trouble and avoid the punishment that I will be in? In the story this can be seen through the idea of the fish and how he is like a babysitter to the children reminding them what the mother is going to say and warning them that she is on the way home. With this in order for the children to stay out of trouble with the mom they decide to kick Cat in the Hat out. They do hope he will come back for fun. Discourse Community Analysis A discourse community is a group of people with similar ideologies, goals, life experiences and ways of communicating. They are so easy to be a part of, you are practically born into one, for your family has a culture and background, which fits the definition of a discourse community. I am actually a part of a few communities myself, and you probably are too. Some examples of mine are my family, being a UTA student, Italian, a woman and a part of UTA's musical theater program. This will be backed by ethos, logos and pathos, for I have experienced all the emotions of joining a new group, along with the four years of taking acting, and singing lessons and doing shows, paired with real life events to prove everything in this paper is one hundred percent real. The arts are a major part of this 14 year old who has appeared in 7 musicals, 3 plays, 7 singing recitals and concerts, and 6 dance recitals. These two auras dominate our world and culture, can be found in the most basic of conversation, from peasant to president, and yet no one can truly define them. In the poem "The Tyger" by William Blake, he makes an attempt to illustrate his feelings on evil and all that it represents. His foresight and enlightened point of view only serve to further strengthen the knowledge of the reader on the mystical forces we have simply dubbed good and evil. It is extremely important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blake was constantly bombarded with such negative change, a palpable evil surrounding him. This is almost definitely the inspiration for a philosophical poem such as "The Tyger" (1794).When ones generation is defined by such an unruly ugly aura, it's easy to understand how and why one would write about such a touchy subject as the essence of evil. It's a topic rarely explored, rarely described, and rarely deciphered. But Mr. Blake does an excellent job of at least presenting a discussion point for this dangerous "evil." The philosophical question is broken down into sub–sections, who created good and evil? What exactly is evil? Is it the absence of good? As all noteworthy philosophers do, Mr. Blake lays the question out for us to ponder ourselves, for one to answer in one's own heart. The obvious best choice of analysis for a poem of such meaning and strength is to completely break down each and every stanza, discussing things as simplistic as meter and rhyme, diction and language, to a more in depth analysis of meaning and lessons. We must understand firstly that the speaker is not William Blake. Throughout all of Songs of Experience, a common narrator tells the stories of toil and struggle. A striking beginning draws the reader in, capturing the essence of "The Tyger." "Tyger Tyger, burning bright!" We know that an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Night On Broadway After closing night of "Seussical the Musical", parents, teachers, and students alike have been asking the theatre department, "What's the winter show?!" Well, oddly enough, we don't have one – at least not a seven or eight performance run. This Winter, Wilsonville High School theatre is preparing for a local performing arts competition in the Portland area. I know what you're thinking: "There are competitions for theatre?!" Yup! Just like soccer and basketball tournaments, Oregon Thespians ("the Oregon Chapter of the International Thespian Society") organizes a theatre competition every February. Divided into the Northwest, Northeast, and Southern regions, high schools all over Oregon gather in three various locations on Feb. 6 to compete at Regionals. While still a competition, the contest looks a little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The day before Regionals, Friday Feb. 5, Wilsonville High School theatre will present the Regionals showcase "Night on Broadway"", where students will perform their acting and musical numbers for the Wilsonville public – an event that will hopefully raise money for future shows. While there is only one performance, "Night on Broadway" will included around 30 separate acts from shows such as "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson", "First Date", "The Wedding Singer", "Dog fight", "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change", "Next to Normal", "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" and many more. So while "Night on Broadway" might not be a play or a musical, with seven or eigt performances, elaborate costumes and sets, and a pit orchestra, the actors and directors will be working just as hard to organize a showcase that not only fundraises for the next dramatic season, but allows students to practice their numbers once more, before performing in front of judges – a crucial step in "putting yourself out there" as a ... • 20. Seussical The Musical Essay A Critical Review of Seussical the Musical More then exceeding my expectations, Seussical the Musical opened on Broadway in 2000 and has since been preformed in off–Broadway settings around the country. Intricately weaving The Cat in the Hat with the various chronicles of Horton the elephant such as Horton Hears a Who and Horton Hatches an Egg, this performance exceeded my expectations. Considering it was a dinner theater in Jacksonville, Florida and that the play's namesake came from a book my parents read to me as a toddler, my expectations were relatively low; however, the performance greatly exceeded my preconceived expectations. From the high quality of the actors to the surprisingly sophisticated plot, this play proved to be a real treat. The performance hall was designed in a thrust manner, which from a frontal view of the stage, I sat on the left hand side. This designed allowed for an unorthodox relationship between the actor and the audience. The actors would commonly come off the stage and run around the hall, lacing the rows. While running around, they would sometimes sing to one individual or extend their hand for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seuss stories, this play used mentioned before elements to mask the seriousness of his works. One of the songs that were song several times throughout the play, the refrain even appears on the playbill, was centered on the idea that "a person's a person, no matter how small!" (Program Notes. Seussical the Musical. Alhambra. Jacksonville, FL. 7/11/2015.) In the play, Horton the Elephant hears the miniature townsfolk of Whoseville yelling for help on a spec of dust. He treats them with respect and attempts to help them while being manipulated by a Mayzie the Bird to watch he egg, attacked by the monkeys who steal his flower holding the spec of dust, and laughed at by the rest of the animals in the jungle. • 21. A King Is The Best And Worst Of Men David Anthony Durham once said, "A king is the best and worst of men" (Durham). By this, he was saying that kings have the potential to leave great legacies or a trail of failures. As a result of kings being chosen by royal succession, rather than actual qualifications, many kings throughout history have been unfit for leadership of a nation. An example of this is The Count of Artois, Charles X of the France. He was uneducated and led a frivolous life. When Louis XVIII died in 1824, Charles X was faced the difficult task of becoming king when no one expected it to happen. He was ultimately unprepared for the job, and exemplified all the qualities of an unfit ruler. When Dr. Seuss wrote "Yertle the Turtle", he was not only creating a meaningful children's story, but also providing adults with an important lesson on leadership. He used Yertle as a metaphor for oppressive governance. Yertle's actions can be compared to the actions of Charles X of France and other tyrannical rulers. Greed is an extremely dangerous quality to have in a ruler. The leaders of nations who greed for more land are led to start wars, and the leaders who greed for money crush their citizens with heavy taxes. Yertle is a very greedy Turtle King. When commenting on the extent of his kingdom he says, I 'm the ruler of all that I see. But I don 't see enough. That 's the trouble with me" (Seuss). Despite ruling literally everything is in his sight he still wants more. This type of insatiability makes for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Future Problem Solvers: A Concert Analysis What does one learn from failure? Will the disappointments from failure trouble the individual, or will the disappointments encourage them to try harder? I believe it is imperative to attempt new things and take risks. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "You must do the thing you think you cannot do." Continually facing a fear and achieving goals that one thought they could never accomplish, will improve their self confidence, motivate them to never give up, and will help them realize their own potential. I first came to Burris in second grade. That same year, Burris was directing Seussical the Musical. Both of my parents encouraged me to go to the auditions but I firmly disagreed. At that time, I disliked singing and I didn't think I was very good at it either. My parents' persuasion resulted in bribing me with ice cream and play dates, until I agreed to audition. I recall being very nervous, but as I started to sing my song I seemed to enjoy being on stage. After the audition I was very eager to know if I was selected to be part of the show. Thankfully I was not only chosen to be included in the ensemble, but I got cast as the role of the baby kangaroo. If I had let my fear stop me I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing Ron Howard's How the Grinch Stole Christmas to Dr. Seuss' Grinch Whether or not you consider Ron Howard's version of Dr Seuss's classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas comical, yet disgraceful, there's no ignoring the little green monster's reign over the box office. The movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey, was released in November of 2000, reaching a gross high of over $200 million in the U.S alone (The Numbers). However, I feel that this version has over exaggerated the original story, and I will back this up by showing many examples of how Dr. Seuss's classic turned into a marketing, franchise frenzy. Dr. Seuss's original fable is a simple story told with a great moral that criticizes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This show can be seen on TV every Christmas season. Then Ron Howard takes this short film and draws it out to be a two and a half–hour long movie. The worst aspect of the movie is that it makes a mockery of Seuss's main message: "Christmas doesn't come from a store." This movie is all about selling, from those furry talking Grinch dolls to endless fast–food tie–ins. There are many differences between the movie and the original story, one of which is Cindy Lou Who. In the original Grinch she is portrayed as innocent two year old. In the movie however, she is about seven years old, which allows her to be slightly more skeptical about things. Jim Carrey played The Grinch, but when watching this movie it seemed as if The Grinch was playing Jim Carrey. The original cartoon leaves you with much more imagination as to why the Grinch is so mean. Quoting from Dr. Seuss's book: "The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason. It could be that his head wasn't screwed on quite right. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were to tight. But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that his heart was two sizes too small." (Seuss). However in the over–exaggerated movie it included the reason behind the Grinch's hatred of Christmas; saying it was because the kids used to tease him when he was little, until the day he ... Characters such as the mischievous Cat in the Hat, the loving Horton the Elephant, the mean Grinch and the youthful and sweet JoJo. The musical begins in the Jungle of Nool. Horton discovers a piece of dust containing Whoville. He decides that he needs to protect the speck of dust on a nearby clover while at the same time protecting an egg left by the lazy Mayzie. Seussical the Musical had a very bright and vibrant stage. The stage was full of brightly painted buildings. The brightly painted buildings was very appealing for the audience to watch the musical. The lighting was excellent on the characters as they moved about the stage. For example, when Horton moved around the stage protecting his clover, the audience could always see him. When the monkeys were jumping around the stage, the lighting captured them at every angle. The lighting allowed for each character that was on stage to be seen openly. I took part as one of the lead pianists in the band, in which the band was responsible for accompanying the play with music. The lead pianist part involved some very dense and intricate parts to play with. This part became one of the most important roles in the whole musical, as it was used solely to accompany the most dramatic scenes of the show, and many band members and singers relied on the lead pianist parts to help orient them throughout.
