2. Why are learning strategies
important?
Learning strategies are used by students to help us understand
●
information and solve our studying problems.
A learning strategy is a person's approach to learning and using
●
information. Students who don't know or use good learning strategies
often learn passively and often fail in school.
“Teaching students how to learn is as important as teaching them
●
content.”
3. Strategies that help
students learn how to learn
Drawing pictures or diagrams to help us understand each
subject.
●
•Making up questions that we try to answer about each
subject.
• When we are learning something new in each subject, we
think back to what we already know about it.
• Discussing what we are doing in each subject with others.
• Practicing things over and over until we know them well in
each subject.
• Thinking about our thinking, to check if we understand the
ideas in each subject.
4. Strategies that help
students learn how to learn
When we don’t understand something in each subject we go back
over it again.
●
• We make a note of things that we don’t understand very well in each
subject, so that we can follow them up.
• When we have finished an activity in each subject we look back to
see how well we did.
• Organizing our time to manage our learning in each subject.
• Making plans for how to do the activities in each subject.
