COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY
 As per Oxford Dictionary – Counterfeit derived from
Latin words Contra and Facere which means “making
something against original”.
 Something which resembles genuine.
 Literally means to make a copy or imitation of
something which is genuine with an intent to defraud.

 Various methods used by counterfeiters
include:-
 Letter press printing
 Offset printing
 Photocopying – Color Xerox, Color Laser Printing
 Computer aided printing – Scanning, printing with inkjet,
bubble jet, thermal jet, or laser jet

PRINTING TECHNIQUE
 INTAGLIO
- Characters are depressed on the plates and gives.
raised impression on the note.
 LETTER PRESS
- Opposite to intaglio printing.
- Characters are raised and then been printed on the note.
 EMBOSSED
- Combination of intaglio and letter press.

 LITHOGRAPHIC TECH
- Spcl absorption stone is used
- Oil/ greasy ink is used in character then
painted and been treated with water.(paint will
get stuck to other areas except water)
- Treated with spcl ink which gives ink impression
on areas where oil is present.
- Has fine details
- Back side of the note is printed using this tech

HOW RBI CONTROL FICN PROBLEM
 RBI has launched a website “www.paisaboltahai.rbi.org” to
raise awareness among masses about fake notes in the
market.
 RBI puts 2005 as expiry date on currency notes to curb
fake money.
 The central bank has to perform a wide range of
promotional functions to control FICN.
