Mead Johnson Indonesia on its way to create an
app to help them communicate and engage with
their market, mommies. There’s already same app
from their international part but they want to have a
more local touch so they contacted bubu to do it.

Discovery
Getting to know the target user
SMALL SCREEN
The most used blackberry was Bold series,
with its landscape 2.8 inch, and mostly without
touch interaction. User mostly interact with its
qwerty and trackpad.
BLACKBERRY QWERTY
Based on our field research and survey, most
of Indonesian mom’s is using blackberry
qwerty type. This project was launched before
BBM ( Blackberry Messenger ) was launched
for another platforms ( Android, iOS ).

Analysis
The 2.8 inch screen present imminent challenges
as we design the app. However, as this is the
gadget of our base audience we take it as our
main consideration during ui ideation.
MINIMALISM APPROACH
Learning from how user still stick to BBM app,
even though its somber design, our focus is on the
flow and structure. And taking the visual to be
more kiddish and less sophisticated.
LOW END FIRST AND SCALE UP
Starting from blackberry’s minimal space and then
scaling it up for larger ( if not better ), screen
sizes. Though we can’t add too much to make the
app feels consistent throughout gadget and
LIMITED SCREEN ESTATE

Pin pointing
user needs
Being the single man UX Team, at the time, i need to
improvise. As the other team were on their tight deadlines
on other project, i go straight to users for feedback and
limiting the guesswork.
The back and forth iterative process we’ve done take
quite sometimes. The rapid iteration between ideation
and getting feedback from mommies ( and expecting
mommies ), have its own challenges.
For most of the time we focus on our base persona, user
with blackberry bold as their main gadget.

Interface
Qwerty Consideration to
Multitouch Screen
Scaling up from lower expectations saves us a lot of
hair falls and itches, especially when it comes to
creating a consistent user interface throughout
multi platform.
