Any one who has created the work is
the owner

12. Can Copyrights Exchange Hands?
YES
Like any other free assets, copyrights
can be sold or transferred
by the owner
13. Duration of Copyrights
For literary, dramatic, musical or artistic
works
70 years from the end of the calendar year the
writer or producer died (in case of collective
work the last living shall be considered)
14. Sound Recordings and broadcasts
50 years from the end of the calendar year in
which the work was created and released
15. Films
70 years from the end of the calendar year in which
the last principal director, author or composer dies.
17. Broadcasts and cable programs
50 years from the end of the calendar year in
which the broadcast was made.
18. Restricted acts
• Copy the work.
• Rent, lend or issue copies of the work to the
public.
• Perform, broadcast or show the work in public.
• Adapt the work.
20. Punishments in case of Infringement
The punishments vary from country to country
In USA
• The legal penalties for copyright infringement are:
• Infringer pays the actual dollar amount of damages
and profits.
• The law provides a range from $200 to $150,000 for
each work infringed.
• Infringer pays for all attorneys fees and court costs.
• The Court can issue an injunction to stop the
infringing acts.
• The Court can impound the illegal works.
• The infringer can go to jail.
