1. Torrevieja is a town on the Spanish Costa Blanca and its hospital covers a wide area for its
patients .It has been calculated that health centres dealt with at least 60% of emergency cases
in the Torrevieja catchment area last year .
There was a total of 162,112 emergencies recorded by the regional government .Almost 33% of
these were classified as very serious ,52% were serious and 16% were not serious .The
average waiting time was 34 minutes .
The emergency surgery team performed almost 16,000 operations , including those that were
out patients and others where hospitalization was needed .
They calculated that the average operation was 15% more complex than in other hospitals and
that they had shorter post operative stays in hospital with fewer complications or readmission .In
fact 54% of all patients receiving major surgery do not spend a second night in hospital which is
thanks to excellent surgical and anaesthetic techniques .
